Reviews of Beacon Hill Books & Cafe
I’m so happy about this bookstore. It’s a wonderful, quaint place that showed up just in time for fall. It’s four stories, has many book varieties, a super nice staff, and has a cafe.
The cutest little place!! My one qualm is I couldn’t get a squirrel tote bag without purchasing the $200 membership but that’s not an actual problem. The decor is so charming and they have a great selection of books!
Stunning bookstore! I popped in for a gift and was not disappointed. I’ve been so excited for this to open and can’t wait to stop in again and browse. A staff member, Koko, helped with a recommendation and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable! Looking forward to checking out the cafe and wine bar. Definitely worth a trip!
This is a lovely, cozy bookstore. There are multiple levels (there are stairs and an elevator inside of the bookstore) with different themes of books on each floor. It was quite crowded when I was there, but there was still enough room to look at sections that were interesting to me. They have a great selection of books including current, popular books and books that I hadn’t heard of before
Definitely a cute coffee shop. We made a reservation for first thing in the morning and we had to make it in a week or two in advance. With that, don't be in a hurry when you come here, you pay for the atmosphere so soak it up! We got the oatmeal which was hot and tasty - perfect for a cold rainy day! The latte was also superb and the pastries were delicious. For me, personally, I would save this for special occasions; it is quite expensive compared to other coffee shops but, as I alluded to, the atmosphere is unique for the area and it is worth it 👍
Where to start?
My best friend and I came across this book and cafe from Tiktok. This was a must see especially when my bestie is a bookworm(me on the other hand I am not)! It's beautifully decorated and made it feel cozy. We loved every part of it.
The only issue we had was at the children's level. There were kids horse playing and running around bumping into people. There was a couple in there with their infant baby and dog. The kids actually startled the dog and someone would have gotten hurt. The Children's floor was a bit tight already, so not a lot of room in general. It made it less enjoyable. There wasn't a worker on that floor to enforce this. I am not sure what the policy is. Just hope this will prevent from anyone getting hurt in the future. It is also pet friendly in there.
I absolutely loved the place, all the reading sections and their book collection is amazing. The reading sections have cozy place that I can sit and read there whole day. I wasn’t able to try the cafe as it was packed (on a Tuesday afternoon), I bet it was as amazing as it looked.
THIS PLACE IS TO DIE FOR! I can’t wait for the cafe to open downstairs. It has such a cute vibe and I was in awe the entire time just seeing how much care and effort went in to creating and decorating this place. They have all genres of books and even a kids floor. They even have cute LL bean totes to carry your books around if you have too many. It’s a small place and very popular, so try to visit on a weekday to get the full experience. They do have an elevator which is nice since it is 4 stories! I wasn’t even in search for a book but ended up leaving with one. Can’t wait to go back!
I can see exactly why this place is so busy: it's aesthetically gorgeous, it has books, and soon it'll have a beautiful garden cafe. While I do think that the aesthetics get in the way of the place functioning as a bookstore (giant paintings, fireplaces, mirrors, and cushy seating taking up space where books could be displayed) it's so beautiful and cozy I can't even be mad about it.
This place was hopping, and it deserves the hype. Especially the children's floor, which features a toy train track and little red doors for kids to peak through. Still, I hope I can come back on a quieter day to sit next to a fireplace while I read inside flaps and first pages.
I’m so glad this cafe is finally open! Although I didn’t get to go for afternoon tea as originally planned, it was still extraordinarily enjoyable. The food is delicious and the bookstore is very cute. A step up from Trident Booksellers & Cafe for sure!
Friendly staff and just a beautiful place! I cannot wait for the cafe!
The most beautiful book store I’ve been too! Great selection and the pinnacle of beacon hill vibes.
4 stores’ book shop. Underground level cafe is not open yet. Guess they haven’t got the permission to sell food. The top floor is for children, which is thoughtful.
Such a beautiful bookstore!!! For a person who don’t read books 📚 that much, it makes me just want to pick one and read it. Every corner is well designed and I can’t wait for the cafe to open so I can have brunch with my girlfriends!! ❤️❤️❤️
Go to the kids level on the top floor to find the kid size furnitures, little red door and the MAGIC RED BUTTON for the train 🚂!!!!
One of the most beautifully designed places I’ve been. The store feels magical; each floor has its own look. The owner and her daughter were very nice and they have a great selection. The cafe wasn’t open yet when we went, but we were able to take a peak and it was gorgeous.
Lovely spot -- ate in the smartly appointed courtyard, which was quite comfortable under a heater even in January! The decor is utterly magical and the food quality was superb.
Knocked off one star because of portion size. My breakfast sandwich was closer to a finger sandwich / tea sandwich (one piece of bread cut in half) vs a typical breakfast sandwich from Tatte, Flour, etc.
Will be returning for coffee with friends, but will plan to order more food next time if I'm hungry for more than two bites.
Was visiting the area today from Florida and wanted to stop in to this bookstore. Wow what a treat! A truly amazing experience as a book lover. You can tell there was so much thought and love that went into this store. Everyone that worked there was so kind and it was truly a one of a kind experience. Walked away with three new books!
The book selection was unfortunately extremely underwhelming. The decor and “look” of the cafe was nice, but I couldn’t get past the feeling that this bookstore was only for people who wanted to post pictures online about being in “cute”
Bookstores, instead of being avid book readers. Apologies if I’m coming off as too harsh, but the bookstore did not feel authentic. Boston has some really good bookstores with amazing selections, I don’t think il visit here again.
Kudos to Melissa and her team on this triumph for Boston. A real bookstore crammed into a classic Beacon Hill brownstone!!! You will fall in love with reading again. Come, sit, stay a spell.
Stunningly beautiful book store- impeccable style and curation.
Charming children’s area with magic door and train that goes around the ceiling
Can’t wait to come back and try the cafe!
I love the use of local artists. 10/10
Truly lovely experience. Fantastic service from friendly staff. Delicious food. Beautiful presentation and decor. The door to the back patio gets a lot of foot traffic, so if you're looking for a breeze, that's the table you'll want. If not, sit further in.
This place was everything I've dreamed of! The cafe was superb - I had a cream tea with scones, clotted cream, and jam and I left completely content. They took my allergens seriously as well. I also enjoyed browsing the bookstore, even if I didn't end up buying anything.
3 stars fr the place itself. HUGE disappointment. My food never came. I received an apology but that was it. No explanation and not even an offer to prepare something else. I left hungry and disappointed. Next time at least offer your patrons an explanation for your shortcomings.
I had high expectations! You order at the register than you sit ! Basically not getting full watering service, yet I left a prepaid 20% tip for a service I never received.
Took them almost half an hour to figure out how to void the transaction for the order I never received.
Got off the waitlist last minute for an evening in the cafe… was a delightful experience. Split a fairly priced bottle of wine and some nice light bites. The vibes were very pleasant and it was a great atmosphere to have a fun conversation in. The food was really great too! I absolutely loved the seedy gluten free bread - I asked where to buy it thinking it was an off the shelf item but to my dismay it is made in house. Guess I will have to come back!
Absolutely amazing place ! You Can pick up a book and sit down on one of the cutest chairs and decide to buy it. Don't miss the childrens' floor and push the red button next to the lift! Next time I'll the cafe though I was told that a reservation is needed.
It’s a lovely bookstore, no doubt about that. But for me it loses what makes me love bookstores as it’s definitely a bit of an attraction. If you want to experience it as a bookstore I suggest going here in a strategically timed window where you’ll (we’ll) get the hygge which is sought. If you’re looking to see a really cool bookstore with lots of other people looking to do the same then definitely come and please take no offense but hopefully us hygge seekers will miss you…😜
Hard to believe theres only 33 reviews on here, this place is a hidden gem just walking by on the street wouldnt notice what treasure is inside. This book store has 4 Levels and the top being the childrens room but anyone can go into it of course. Took my niece whose 7 and she loved it we were in there for over an hour we read some books, had a little tea party, and make sure you press the red button to see the train go along the top of the room. We ended up getting some books and didnt get a chance to go to the cafe on the bottom level but next time we will go for sure! but if you have kids who love books or just yourself great store to check out.
Went here for my friends birthday. The food was okay. The concept is cool but it was really packed, almost uncomfortably. Beautiful little bookstore though. I probably wouldn’t do the cafe again but the bookstore would probably be better on a weekday, early in the morning.
So quaint and has so much character/charm, hard to believe it's only a few weeks old. The quiche was amazing and lots of books! Love it.
Very cute, cozy, warm. Didn’t stay long. Looking forward to the cafe to open
A wonderful atmosphere, great vibes and good service!
Wow Wow Wow
Three cheers to Melissa and her stellar staff for putting on the map a warm and magical place to fall into. To browse to read to sit and get absorbed in a book. Wonderland. This shop will be my go to on every trip to Boston
Cute bookstore. Stairs are narrow so look up before walking.
so cute!! i love the care, attention, and detail put into every aspect of the store. it’s an especially good space for the children of the city of boston. love paige!! can’t wait to keep patronizing this wonderful new addition to the book scene in boston 😊 …
A cute cafe and book store. You need a reservation (only up to two, maybe 3) to eat here on a weekend. It gets super packed but a cute spot
Beautiful and charming bookstore. The atmosphere is lovely. Could definitely take a cozy seat and enjoy the books and the wonderful vibe of the building.
A tourist destination. Nothing different then any other bookstore small business. Slightly hard to get to . Having to climb up to at least the 2nd floor from a carpeted narrow starircase with a single railing.
What a cozy and friendly place! Our meals were excellent, the staff were lovely, and the selection of books was top notch.
Super cute spot! It’s crowded bc they just opened but the staff is super nice and there are multiple floors of books to select from!
This bookstore is so cute! Definitely worth checking out. They have a cafe opening soon as well.
Charming bookstore ! Perfect place for lunch , tea or a glass of wine with a friend . Magical little place for children , with cozy corners , a secret door and a train that runs along the ceiling .
They carry The Wheel of Time and Brandon Sanderson. That plus a very nice cozy bookstore atmosphere merits 5 stars.
Eee so cute at the holidays
The cutest bookstore ever.
Very excited to have a new independent bookstore in the community. Excellent curation and kids love!!
INCREDIBLE bookstore - the staff is the kindest and most helpful, it is absolutely gorgeous, and the book selection is tops - cannot recommend this place enough
Such a charming new bookstore! Lindsey was super helpful and we can’t wait to return.
The atmosphere is there but it's a tiny store with one stair well
Cute bookstore. Tiny, so you will heat up quickly. Nice selection.
Cute vibe🥰
They gave us free hot apple cider! …
Adorable independent book store with a lovely cafe.
Great meal and service for lunch. This place makes Beacon Hill a destination !
Thank you
Absolutely gorgeous store, friendly staff, cannot wait to come back!
Adorable little bookshop with a great selection.
Great little spot
Beautiful store ! We could spend hours here
Very cute place and food is delicious.
If you are Boston, it's a must go place!
Favorite bookstore in the entire city!!!
Beautiful and well run
Adorable book shop.
👌🏻 …
Simply the best!
Beautiful place to buy books and have a coffee! It was the cutest bookstore I’ve ever seen! The cafe was amazing the staff was great and so helpful! The latte with vanilla syrup is a must! It was so good!
Polite staff who don’t push you out the door or check in on you constantly, friendly and calm atmosphere, and delicious chevre sandwiches (the sourdough is not overly fermented). Chamomile tea set up was enjoyable to use. Am definitely coming back!
Lovely experience bringing my niece to explore the children's section. Love all the little touches that make this book emporium extra special
Lovely little bookstore, you can see the effort in every single detail. The children’s area y so beautiful and cozy, the train is beautiful. My daughter loved the mini door between the two rooms. Worth a visit and of course a purchase. Btw staff is very nice and helpful.
Beautiful, interesting. A must stop.
Beautiful store with an amazing range of books.
Amazingly beautiful creation here with three floors of a fantasy-adventure of a bookstore and a delightful (and very popular) cafe dining space downstairs. On the top floor don’t miss the toy train that toots and zips around on a track up near the ceiling. Push the big red button to make get it going.
Tad and Peggy Campion
Cute 4 story bookstore filled with a plethora of books and a spiral staircase. Each level had a different genre of books and helpful staff.
