Reviews of Charis Books & More
Gabriel Greco
This place is wicked cool. Wonderful books, lovely pins, friendly and courteous staff, cards that are too good to be true. It is truly a wonderful piece of Decatur. 12/10 would recommend.
Chloe Spencer
FANTASTIC curation of books, especially for the young adult section. I had run all over the ATL looking for a brand new copy of a certain book, and lo and behold, Charis had it! They also have a small but diverse collection of mysteries/thrillers, horror, and sci-fi. I found books that I had been looking to buy in-person for a very long time! I also really love the homey atmosphere in the store; it feels integral to its community and that's quite lovely.
James Diedrick
One of the south's best bookstores, now affiliated with Agnes Scott College, which renovated one of its most beautiful homes for Charis. Extremely helpful staff, great depth in feminist and gender-relayed books, with a spacious back porch for reading and sipping coffee. Will special order any book. Stop by and see if you agree!
Brittany Walsh
Fantastic bookstore with an amazing selection and very specific sections/labeling to help you find what you're looking for! They have plenty of books and a great assortment of stickers, magnets, pins, cards, and more
Tamisha W
Cool book store amazing vibes 💕 CHECK OUT PETER'S TRIP TO THE DENTIST WRITTEN BY LATIA SMITH ON AMAZON …
Kenneth Adams
I've visited twice now and love this little independent book store across the street from Agnes Scott College. Lots of ASC shirts and stickers and stuff for ASC parents.
Incredible selection of alternative books and a strong focus on female writers.
Angela who was there today was so helpful and kind. Said she would do her best to carry our daughter's first book as an ASC student author. I watched Angela interact with several people who were obviously locals and it's quite evident that Angela knows her customers well.
I'm sure we'll be back.
Tamrat Kassa Jr.
The prices are somewhat high, however their stock of books is impressive. Will definitely go back.
Jacqueline Kincade
I LOVE this store! So many books and trinkets and gifts.
Shannon Johnson
This is such an adorable bookshop! It had a wide selection of materials, including books in Spanish, as well as fun gifts and of course Agnes Scott merchandise. Will definitely be visiting again!
Alexis Halyard
My favorite bookstore in all of the world! The folks at Charis are quite knowledgeable about the inventory and routinely have excellent recommendations. All are welcome at Charis and they have a robust line-up of inclusive programming (book signings, reading circles, etc).. Although I no longer live in Atlanta, I continue to order 80% of my books from the online shop. If you’re looking for your next literary love, choose Charis!
Randi Miller
They had books on weird topics that I didn’t think any store would have. A++
Sonjj Zairyn
Great selection of books and other products! Staff was also very welcoming and helpful with recommendations 😊 …
Katherine Fairbanks
very curated selection, highly recommend if you're looking for fiction that has strong women or lgbt+ characters. (they have a wider range but it's a much better place to randomly pull books off the shelf than others!)
OooA! Publishing
An important feminist institution that I hope will endure forever.
Rowen Cannon-Monogue
This bookstore felt like home. I saw myself represented in books that someone thought important enough to stock on a shelf and guide me to when asked. Can we have more spaces like this? Can we all agree to spend our money here if we need books on queer family dynamics or Appalachian folklore? 😍 …
Richard Napolitano
Fantastic, diverse bookstore. If they don't have it they will order it for you.
venchiwentz 01
Staff were amazing, tons of minority representation in books! They have funny and relatable bumper stickers and regular stickers, lgbt flags and amazing feminist books!
Ellen Declairing
One of my favorite places in the whole of Atlanta! I'm not local, but I love to visit whenever I'm near. They have an excellent selection of books and book-related paraphernalia, friendly staff, and just a really great atmosphere. They are also great if you ship things! Very timely. A++ would visit your local feminist bookstore again
Teo Drescher
Great store! Extensive queer literature selection, conveniently located right next to Agnes Scott College. If they do not have it in store, they will order it for you. Currently operating via contactless pickup — they place your order on the porch in a paper bag labeled with your name and you come and pick it up.
Emma Groover
Awesome bookstore with friendly staff. Great experience with the easy porch pick up and in person browsing the store.
Andrew Hanson
Such a homey little bookstore. The selection is fantastic and every single time I walk in, there's always something new that catches my eye. The bike rack outside is a welcome addition, seeing as this *is* Decatur and all. I adore this spot, and hope to encourage others to drop in!
Savannah King
A lovely bookstore with amazing staff and a great selection
Patricia Burton
Very fine assortment of books. Staff were so helpful as I wanted to select an interesting and appropriate novel for my teenage niece now nephew as he journeys through transition.
Maureen Jones
There are many beautiful items in the shop. We purchased several creative shirts with great themes
Laura Anderson
My all-time favorite bookstore. Excellent selection, and if they don't have it, they'll order it. The events are top-notch, and so is everyone who works there.
Yolanda Jacobs
I'm a voracious reader, and Charis carries a great selection, including some hard to find elsewhere. I love their selection of children's books. So inclusive and diverse. I haven't been there in a bit since I pile on the books when I am there, so it's time to hit their stacks up again.
April Arm
lovely place to hunt for feminist books and fan club stuff
Mary Lore
Have been shopping with Charis for years! They have books for many hard to find topics (I mean I found a book about an autistic girl for a young niece with autism and loads of culturally appropriate books with diverse characters!) The staff is nothing short of amazing! The new location is great and they finally have decent parking!!! Go for LGBTQ, feminist, etc. books, magazines, stickers. The list goes on and on. Hell, they even have a corner for personal care items!
Shaquea Moore
Just go. It's a historic, feminist bookstore. What more do you need to love it?! They also have a surprisingly nice kids section. Soon, they're leaving Little Five Points and heading to Decatur, so get in that little creaky, old house and make a memory while you still can!
Also, expect to pay full price for the books. This aint a Kindle. They have lights to pay for. It's worth it though. Sometimes you just need to be in a bookstore.
Carolyn Dunbar
Recently purchased several books in store and online. Great service, as staff was friendly, informed, and professional. Five stars from me!
Brianna Lewis
Great cozy neighborhood bookstore where you can find all sorts of interesting reads, eccentric accessories, and meet with your favorite authors. They have autographed copies of books you'll want to have on your shelf. Great spot!
Connor Gillis
This place is a gem - the last of its kind in a world where locally owned bookstores are quickly shutting down. The books are diverse, and you will find local authors, novels, kids books, and everything in between. This is the place to go if you want to find underrepresented populations in literature. I even found a bilingual English/Chinese kids book! If you are looking for something specific and Charis doesn’t have it, they will get it for you. Also keep an eye on their events which happen frequently! Shop local, y’all!
Bobby Barclay
I picked up a book from their porch pickup yesterday, and the experience on the day of was smooth, but it did take 6 days for my order to be ready for pickup after placing it. I ordered local (and spent $10 more on one book) because I thought I could get it same or next day rather than waiting 2 days for Amazon, but that was a mistake.
Angela Douge
I love the large selection of African American children books. I was looking for a 4 year old girl and I had more than enough to select from. Parking is available but only 3 slots. I'm always happy when I stop in.
Rabbit Stoddard
This is my go to for books for gifts, and also books for me. Completely amazing selection of kid books as well. The staff is friendly and helpful, and they have lots of great events. Go visit before the move to Decatur!
Shauntell Simmons
I love this store! they buy and sell used books, the selection is great and they emphasize their queer author and book sections. hate that they're moving soon but it won't stop me from frequenting.
LaWanda Swan
Book stores are special places, y'all. I don't know about y'all, but it's a quick way to lose hours. Charis is not the exception. The new location is amazing and proves that the wonderment of the vibe is found in the people, staff, and treasures. I love it.
Gabrielle M
One of my favorite places in Atlanta. Welcoming atmosphere, wide variety of books, and cool local items for sale too. They generously open their doors for local events and are a much needed community gathering spot.
Jeff Dickerson
What a well kept hidden jewel. So sad they're moving from Little Five Points. Tremendous selection of all genre's of books. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Great place.
Sam McCandless
I love this place. They have a lot of good books, especially children's books. If you're looking for intersectional texts, no other brick-and-mortar can do better. Good sci-fi. Can order anything they don't have.
Sarah Warren
Charming space full of excellent books, kind staff, and even delicious chocolate! My favourite place to browse.
jeanettesdaughter
Mostly good over the years but not much anymore. Feels old, dusty and cultish. Still, its the oldest women's bookstore in the region. Better for them to relocate near Agnes Scott. Maybe they can come out of that echo chamber.
L Z
Just absolutely great selection of books centering progressive themes and voices.
Japhy Ryder
This place always has a cool selection of feminist and LGBTQA literature. They also host some really awesome events, and the staff is fantastic if you need a suggestion or help. Also home to one of Atlanta's tiny doors.
Angela Higginson
