The quintessential used bookstore: a building with every dusty nook and cranny filled with tall shelves crammed full of aging books waiting to be added to your collection. It’s a wonderful shop, and all of the shelves were well marked. And I found a couple of books at decent prices to take home with me. Best of all - a bookshop cat!

Truly a gem! I liken it to passing through the wardrobe into Narnia, especially since it truly does seem bigger inside than outside. The smell of well-bound pages, the colors of covers old and new, the feel of old armchairs strategically placed for one to settle in for a preview of the 12 books you're surely going to purchase, the regal felines who lead charmed lives of literate luxury among the shelves and counters - trust me, once you visit, you'll be back.

This is my new favourite book store!! I absolutely loved it here and I spent nearly 3 hours just wandering the stacks and amassing a collection of books to take home. The prices were wonderfully reasonable! I bought 22 books for $90 and they were all in such great condition! The staff were wonderfully helpful but didn't hover and the best part...they have kitties! 😍😍😍 The resident bookstore kitties were so sweet and friendly and happily received some pets. Their collection is extensive and I highly recommend taking a look! They also had comfy chairs all over the place. Seriously, worth checking out.

I’m impressed! What a great selection of classic books and magazines. A wide variety of categories choose from. Not the usual book store popular items, but a real book lovers store. I think it’s one of the few like it in the states. Worth a look, the only thing missing is a cafe!

Fun place to visit as there are 4 or so very mild, docile cats that roam the ground floor. There are many classic works of literature that have been signed by the author. The basement has an eclectic collection of old encyclopedia sets, magazines, and vinyl records.

EDIT: Five stars. An uncontrollable mishap was corrected. The store is clean and perfect. Amazing staff. Accommodating and professional. A must go for used book store nerds! I find the organization of the store is excellent. Prices are a bit higher than other competitors. New books are sprinkled in with the old/used. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. The cats are fun. However, twice now I have brought home (to other cats) a book with cat urine damage. I really find that unacceptable. Please check your purchases before leaving the store. Don’t buy anything with *water* damage.

I am from out of state and was stopping by to check any graphic novels they may have. Truth be told that selection for them limited, but I found a few things a I wanted. The people working even turned me to other places to go and check out. I had a pleasant conversation with them and it was great that they were knowledgeable of my interests and willing to help me, even if that was to send me somewhere else. GREAT ENVIRONMENT, TRULY FRIENDLY, and WELCOMING. If given the chance, I would be coming back.

A beautiful store with a cat friendly environment. It houses rare and vintage books for sale. With books stacked high and more room on the inside it will take a while to explore. For my first visit I loved it. It was like exploring treasures of the past.

This is an independent bookstore that sells used books and some new. If you really love to read visit this store. The owners select books carefully and cover an incredible range of topics. Everything they have is interesting. This is a real bookstore that meets the needs of artistic, casual and serious readers; I would say that's very rare these days. They also have cute cats living there. The prices range from low (around $3.00) to high for rare antique books. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. It's truly one of a kind. I would say it's kind of an Autumn season bookstore if that makes any sense. They don't serve food or coffee, so unless you want cat food eat before you arrive. I love being there and always find books on niche topics.

Went there today for the first time after having passed it many a time. The staff was very friendly and helpful! They have a very impressive collection of a wide range of books and it's super interesting to see all the collectables! Also THE CATS!! They have three very friendly indoor ones and some outdoor ones they take good care of as well!! Would definitely recommend a visit. Prices were very fair and going back again for sure!

The selection of Atlanta Vintage Books far surpassed my expectations, its a maze of books any lover of literature would be ecstatic to find themselves in. The staff is friendly and helpful, more than glad to assist you with any questions or concerns. A lovely bonus I did not anticipate in regards to my visit was the charming and friendly trio of felines who possibly reside in the shop; they certainly brought a smile to my face. The cat trees, houses, and beds outside are lovely, and I appreciate any shop or store who concern themselves with the welfare of animals in the surrounding area. Overall a great experience in a great store. I will absolutely return every time I find myself in the area.

It's an independent bookstore with cats. What else do you need to hear? Seriously, though, after several visits, this place is just great. Diverse variety of books, fair prices, and every staff member (including the owners) I've met is kind and attentive. Every time I come in, I can spend an hour+ browsing from the difference in the selection from my previous trip.

They also have some vintage items that aren't often available elsewhere, such as magazines and yearbooks. I'm fascinated by the 1950 Tulane yearbook that I bought and I will probably be back to buy more!

One of my absolute favorite book stores of all time. Atlanta Vintage Books is a respite in an area that is changing very quickly. As a business, they provide quality books, a pleasant environment for sitting, and most importantly, a sense of community and connection. Walking into the book store-- which is absolutely packed with books-- is almost shocking. It's increasingly rare to find a brick and morter bookstore, let alone one that sells such a varied selection. I've found books about subjects I didn't even know existed. I stocked up on my local Atlanta books before moving out of state, which has given me great comfort during the huge transition. It has really helped that I was able to buy books that cycled through the city: books that were marked up, and walked along the streets, and sat in the libraries. As someone who loves Atlanta deeply, it's nice to take some of it with me. But moreso than just Atlanta Vintage Book's important role in creating community: the people who work there are just legitimately nice people who care about what they do. Every time I shop there for books, I leave with a smile of my face. Despite how awful Atlanta traffic can get, I always find Atlanta Vintage Books worth the drive. If you're looking for the right bookstore to scrarch that itch: this is it.

I wanted to give this store a try, since I love to find vintage books or classics. To start it's a large establishment so plenty to browse. I liked that they have many cats roaming around and enjoyed petting or playing with them. The only thing that put me off was the smell of cat urine in random rooms. I love that the owners are adopting or caring for homeless cats but please still be more hygienic, especially with rare books around.

Tons of books and the helpful staff know the titles well. Great if you're looking for something specific but also a good place to browse. I've found a rare out of print book for a terrific price on more than one occasion! They have several friendly cats who walk around the store, but if you're not a cat person, just ignore the cats and they'll leave you alone.

My new local favorite. I was impressed by the set up at this place. They had couches and chairs (they were actually comfortable and not just cheap wood causing backpains) where are you can just sit down and read. The staff were very friendly and even gave me a discount since I selected a book that was on the shelf for a very long time. Will definitely be returning and visiting the five cats again!

I have been going here for years I have never smelt any cat litter or urine so whoever said that is crazy stay home or go to Barnes & Noble. This book store is unique and wonderful the people that work there are a joy I love stopping in and saying hello sometimes I bring the Kitty cats some treats and some cat food it's so nice to sit, read, hang out and look at all the wonderful books. They have VINTAGE BOOKS I BUY!! and the cats are hanging out with you it's just a wonderful thing🐱🐱🐱🐱

What sets the store apart is the stories behind some of their collection. So refreshing to avoid the big box warehouse of commonality! Ask about the five cat challenge. I only got to three.

One of my favourite stops in Atlanta. It's rare to leave without a few hundred dollars worth of books. For those of you who might need wheelchairs, you might have some challenges though. As far as I can tell there is no elevator and there are two floors, but you can shop online!

One of the best book stores in Atlanta. Very eclectic collection of new and old books ranging from philosophy, poetry, science, history and many more. A good selection of vintage children's books too. They told us today that they just acquired a huge selection of anthropology books. The staff is very warm and friendly. And, yes, they have rescued and saved cats and some even live in the store.

Fun place to visit and browse and buy. The numerous cats and staff are comfortable to be around. Don't be surprised to be escorted by either throughout the many rooms and sections of the stacks. You can find most anything on any topic, and the selections are constantly being refreshed. Prices are marked on the first page of the book and seem appropriate.

I love this bookstore! Their selection is large and the cats add a lot of character and charm. And there are always really good finds if you take the time to look. They have a great radical section downstairs and their philosophy books include absolute gems. Combined with the friendliness of the staff and the excellent hours, this is my go-to bookstore. Sometimes I just go here to read, as they create a nice relaxing atmosphere, and the chairs are very comfy. No bookstore in the Atlanta area can hold a candle to this one when it comes to selection and friendliness. I'm glad the spirit of the local, independent bookstore lives a little longer in this corner of Atlanta.

I have heard of this place many times and decided to stop for the first time by on the way back from a dental appointment. This bookstore has every bit of character you may think and then some. The staff are so kind and friendly and you can tell that they are friends amongst themselves and the frequent customers. I picked up a few vintage children’s books and was told the story of each cat and their personalities and learned some new thigs about books and authors during my brief chat with one of the owners. I wish I could have stayed and talked to him all day! I love this store and I am not exactly a cat person. I am also not a collector and I struggle to find the time to read (being a mother to 2 kids under 3) Nonetheless, I cannot wait to be back! And when my littles are old enough to appreciate it, I will bring them with me. :) These types of bookstores are getting few and far between and I am so happy to have this one around.

This place is dangerous. The wallets of bibliophiles should be warned! This is everything a used book store should be. It smells like books. It is well curated so that there are distinctly more pearls to find. There are corners and niches and comfy chairs to peruse your findings. And there are kitties, inside and out. You'd never know there were indoor cats, because it smells just like books.

This is probably my favorite bookstore in Atlanta! They have such a large selection of any type of book you could want. Everytime I come here, I gravitate toward the philosophy, Buddhism, and math/science sections, but they have an awesome variety of history, literature, religion, metaphysics, fiction, etc. They have a lot upstairs but they also have a basement with tons more down there! They also have about five cats roaming around and they are super sweet. Last but not least, they have a decent bit of seating so you can actually read for a bit. :)

A true gem, one of those bookstores that used to be more common but that have sadly disappeared. Fortunately ATL Vintage Books is here, and the selection is AMAZING. There are too few real bookstores around now of days, however, if AVB was the only one left life would still be worth living. I sometimes wake up in a cold sweat from nightmares where they have gone out of business which forces me to go to Barnes and Noble where everyone looks at me funny for bringing my cats. Apparently the fancy chain thinks they are too good for cats, it's very strange....the dream that is, not the bookstore.

This place is great. They have so many classic books and multiple editions of them. This isn't the place to find the latest work of fiction but rather a prized copy of your favorite classic novel or hard to find book. If you are a bibliophile then make sure you go in with a full pocket book and a lot of time.

I was looking all over Atlanta for a gift set of Chronicles of Narnia and these folks had exactly the one I Needed at a Great Price! Chris was so kind and held the set for me and when I arrived he was most helpful. The store has an amazing selection of Beautiful Antique Books which are great for decorating your home. The choice of books was fascinating and if you are Civil War buff you will find it fascinating. They have several cats which they have rescued and they are so friendly and add charm to the store. This store reminds me of the one in London at Notting Hill. This is truly a one of a kind Book Store that should not be missed.

This is a bona fide treasure chest of books and is quite likely the most comprehensive used bookstore in the Metro Atlanta area. There are a great many books in every imaginable category, with the added bonus that they are also very fairly priced. The staff is delightfully friendly and very helpful, and the various felines roaming around add to the ambiance. If you like books you owe it to yourself to visit this well-established purveyor of the written word.

Places like these are a treasure and (sadly) rare. Upon every trip I am floored by the sheer volume of books -- both in scope and content. The atmosphere is welcoming -- the whole gang is incredibly warm and hospitable. This is a place I wish I could retreat to when I was younger, which is something I can't wait to do with my kids. Places like these renew the excitement that literature provides. Also, make sure to check out the Radical Lit section in the basement!

The selection in this store is first rate and we'll chosen. There is no "junk" no worthless titles. The few areas that interested me the most were well stocked with relevant and interesting titles. It is apparent immediately that this store is owned and ran by people who love books as the intrinsic treasures that they are, not as nameless commodities to be mindlessly stocked and "moved" as if they were just so many groceries. The owners were extremely knowledgeable and able to locate relevant titles from their memory of their vast collection. This is NOT your bulk used book superstore staffed by people who don't know their Dante from their Virgil. This is a toy store for the mind and soul. Allow yourself some time to just browse. This is the real deal.

This book store is great. It has a really wide variety of books that are available here. The staff are very friendly and willing to help you out with any kind of questions that you may have. There’s also a downstairs area here too that has even more books in it. If anything, it’s a cool historical place to come and visit.

This place is what I look for in a used book store. Courteous, warm customer service, books well organized in to their areas and a nice mix of vintage and modern. I left here today with 3 paperbacks and a hardcover even though I am trying to get away from paper-based books :) This place is large and has room that are deicated to subjects like History, Art and Fiction. I will definitely be back. I wish they had a little more Scifi but they make up for it with the sheer volume of other subjects that also interest me.

I seldom bother to review anything on line but I'm bothering to do so here because I am so grateful to the couple running this bookstore for its being here! It's the first bookstore I've found since Amazon and the Internet destroyed all but one of the places I spent most of my pre-digital discretionary money and time. The Tattered Cover is still thriving in Denver. Atl Vintage Books is not that grand. But you will not find a better real bookstore in Atlanta. It you want a new book, call and order it. When you go to pick it up, do so when you have an hour or so to enjoy yourself. Or just go. You'll enjoy yourself I promise. Otherwise you wouldn't be reading reviews of Atlanta bookstores. You can order hard to find books from them on-line. I plan to do that from now on.
