We came in from out of town and were looking for a specific style of game. We told the man at the counter (didn't get his name) what we were looking for and he immediately had some relevant and exciting suggestions. He walked us over to the stand and showed us the games we were interested in. The store was clean, well-organized, and attractive. We could hear laughter from the game lounge upstairs and a sweet couple in the store joined in with giving us game recommendations, which gave the whole experience a friendly and welcoming vibe. If we lived in the area, this would be our go-to spot as the store and its people and atmosphere were of exceptional quality.

I was in town visiting family and thought to just swing by there and help to support a local shop. The staff there was AWESOME! Alex, one of the staff, was super informative and interactive with my children, which I do not see a lot at a gaming store. There was another fellow at the register but his name escapes me, who was also extremely friendly. They gave a good variety of board games, paints, and Warhammer 40K. They do have some other stuff as well, but their main focus is board games. I highly recommend them for any visiting and looking to support a local hobby shop!

This place is a wonderland for tabletop gamers. They honestly have everything and then some. I love their selection of locally crafted goods like crochet dice bags, and dice jewelry. The owner is so kind and I have yet to meet a bad employee there. Everyone is knowledgeable and excited to help. My absolute favorite section is the used book section, I have found so many 3e and 3.5e dungeons and dragons books I needed!

This is the quintessential board/tabletop gaming store. As a Warhammer 40k player, it consistently has a great inventory of many models, paints, dice, and accessories, really all that I could possibly need. The staff are also all quite friendly and knowledgeable, always friendly and helpful. The real reason why this store is so excellent though is the upstairs area that you can reserve for free to play in. I come frequently for D&D as well as Warhammer, and you can use the varied terrain and tables they have to facilitate your games. My friends and I love to come by, purchase snacks (which they do sell) and play on tabletop. If we have time, we also love to look at the often-changing inventory and new models that have come in.

This place is a gamers heaven. Used books with solid pricing. All of the new books stacked and in force. If you need something, they will almost assuredly have it and all of the accessories to go with. Every city needs someone as passionate and as knowledgeable as the owner. Their space is perfect for what they do and nerdy accents to make it very memorable.

I visited The Wyvern's Take while on vacation in Asheville. I found the staff to very friendly and welcoming. I browsed around looking for a couple minis I needed for my D&D campaign. I ended up purchasing a polar bear and a young White dragon. Of course a trip to The Wyvern's Tale without taking a dive into the bin of loose dice! I walked out with a few extra dice as well. I will be making this a stop every time I'm in town now!

Nerd heaven. I got to pick my own dice (though I could have picked from some premade sets), and peruse a plethora of table top gaming materials (including minis and painting supplies). I'm pretty sure the room upstairs is for people to come play table top and card games. Certainly worth the visit if you're in the area.

My wife and I love this place! We've been going here ever since they were under a different name downtown. We find fun, unique board games every time we pop in, which is every time we're in Asheville. Plenty of new things as well as great standards and expansions to games we already love. Staff has always been helpful, it's a small shop with a lot of character.

This place is really cool! My wife and I were passing through, and stopped in to see what was available here for 40k. The selection for 40k wasn't huge at the moment but they had a solid stock of paints and accessories! I picked up a few that I have had trouble finding back where I live. They had a very nice variety of tabletop minis and supplies for other things too, like D&D (awesome!) and a variety of board games. The employees were super nice as well which is always a big plus! Definitely recommend!

Lovely little game store with a plethora of table top games and an even more impressive collection of table top RPG books and supplies. The staff is always very helpful and friendly, even going so far as to ask what games you like to play so they can help inform you about other games you might like. On top of all that, the prices are very competitive and the location is central to a comic book store and several food locations. We seriously love this place. There's a reason we drive over an hour from Hendersonville when we feel like expanding our game collection.

Great little game store. Really enjoyed gawking over all the games I haven't yet played, and the young man was very nice and knowledgeable. Based on our current favorites, he recommended two or three great games for us to try. I would also point out that this game store has a partnership of sorts with Well Played gaming cafe - if you spend over $40 or so at the game store they waive admission to the cafe. Which we totally did, and had a blast there too.

We were just passing through town and stumbled onto this game store. It was amazingly well-stocked, and it had a number of games we hadn't seen at any other stores(and we make stopping at game stores more of a habit than we should!) Excellent customer service as well! Can't recommend enough.

Hands down the BEST one stop shop for any tabletop gaming needs or desires that a person could ever imagine. Unmatched selection of games and accessories, all priced fairly, with the end consumer and their happiness in mind. The location doubles as a venue available for group gaming on their second floor, this area also being utilized for scheduled events and game sessions, making one feel they may always have a group to game with, any time they desire. Cannot speak highly enough of these righteous and awesome folk, and their establishment. Keep on rockin, guys! =)

Great place that really loves up to the name "Friendly Local Gaming Store". We were visiting from out of town and Alex gave us tips about local sights and eats. The store has a good selection of Warhammer, AD&D, Star Wars, Board Games, minis & paint etc. Really glad we stopped in and checked it out. :)

Nice place for board/card games and supplies. Most items were a little under MSRP which was great; I prefer to give my money to these places vs online stores. Staff (think it was the owner) was helpful and very friendly and professional. Really nice selection for the small space. Looks like there are game nights in the upstairs area too. Super clean and organized quite well. Overall, I was very impressed. I'd love to come back here in the future.

The store is stock full of all sorts of figurines, board games, dice, cards and everything inbetween! The owner was great in helping explain where everything was laid out and letting us know about D&D sessions that are happening every week. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for anything tabletop gaming related. Excellent service!

A really great game store with a good selection. They seemed to have a lot of new releases and a lot of product for it's relatively small amount of floor space. The staff seemed knowledgeable and friendly. They had a lot of A Game of Thrones Second Edition LCG packs and I saw a poster advertising a local scene that seems pretty active. The gaming space upstairs was divided into rooms making it public, but personal ay the same time. My only complaint would be about the small amount of parking space.

Friendly people and fair prices, as well as a great inventory of merchandise. If you're in the area and looking to pick up anything table top related, there's a good chance you can find it here. With an inventory ranging from official handbooks to miniature paint supplies. I've yet to be disappointed. They also feature the only gaming lounge in Asheville that I've found that holds regularly scheduled games as well as being open to anybody as a hang out or a place for your next big game. I simply couldn't recommend this place enough for players, collectors, and enthusiasts of all ages.

The staff here was very friendly and knowledgeable. There was a wide selection of items from trading cards (MtG, Pokemon, etc) to miniatures, to board games to tabletop RPGs. Most prices were reasonable, but there were certainly some that were higher than what I would consider market value. Still a great shop!

Ive been here a few times and had exclusively good experiences, but today something happened that was truly lovely: My bf and I were buying Magic: The Gathering packs and the guy behind the counter was so genuinely excited for what we might get that we opened the packs we bought in front of him and all three of us talked and laughed about all the different cards he and I pulled. It was such an awesome sense of community and was the first time Id felt that since starting the MTG hobby. Honestly I bought way more packs than I would have if he werent there, just because he was so fun to chat about it with. Id expect nothing less of my fave game store ❤

Support your local game store! This is the cleanest game store I have ever been too which is huge in my book. I've been to many stores before, and nothing turns me away faster than seeing dust on the games for sale. The staff are very friendly and their prices are current. I couldn't ask for more. Thank you for existing! 3/26/2017: Emailed them about a small issue I had. In the end it was my mistake. However, they responded within an hour which gave me even more respect for this store. They are seriously dedicated about serving the people of Asheville. Love this store and all the staff that work there.

Hands-down the best tabletop and board game shop in Asheville, and maybe even WNC. Unlike some other local game stores, Wyvern's Tale actually gives you a decent discount off the MSRP of most products, which is awesome. For a relatively small space, they manage to have a pretty impressive variety of games and products; from RPGs and tabletop accessories to board and card games of every kind, even a nice selection of pre-owned RPGs for folks like me that prefer old-school tabletop. If you're into TSR-era tabletop, or even 3.x or 4E, be sure to check out the pre-owned section, as I've found some really awesome stuff there and they've helped immensely in my attempt to grow my AD&D collection. They have space upstairs for gaming, which is a nice and cozy space. I've not used it myself but I really like that it's available. Lastly, and the best part, are the people that run the shop. They're always courteous and friendly, and as others have mentioned, they seem to care more about the customer than the sale. I always look forward to stopping in when I'm in Asheville and seeing what new stuff has come in. It's an absolute pleasure to shop there. And I almost forgot that in addition to the discount off MSRP on most stuff, they also have a nifty and easy rewards program that is actually really worthwhile. This awesome FLGS deserves all the praise it gets, and if you've yet to give them a visit, I suggest fixing that at your earliest convenience; you won't regret it.

The owner (I think? Older gentleman) Was amazing and helpful and consistently recommended different items for me to choose from. (I was buying a gift for a friend.) For him I wish I could give more stars. There was a younger man, early 20s? That is why I docked down my review. The store is great but I wont be back because of him. I consistently told him I was looking for a gift for a friend and had mentioned a couple items that he liked and this man kept getting sidetracked in asking me questions about myself. I told him I was on a time crunch and I started wandering the store looking and he followed me back into a room. He put his arm across the display. Effectively blocking my way out. His BO filled the room and I just needed out. I left without making a purchase and wish I felt comfortable enough to come back for the owners sake, but i dont.

Excellent shop, I found a suffieciently large selection with everything from casual board games to classic tabletops. I found everything I was looking for and a lot of stuff I wasn't. The staff was really helpful, I had asked a few questions and they always had really helpful answers. One of them also reccomended a multitude of local tables and advised me what to watch out for. I'm definitely reccomending this to anyone in the area.

Great little game store right on the main drag of Asheville. My only regret is that I stopped in here on a motorcycle trip and didnt have room to take anything with me. Though the owner was kind enough to offer to ship it home for me, I left without getting anything. Mostly because if I'd have started buying stuff knowing he was going to ship it, I would have spent wayyy too much money in there. RPG books, board games, minis, these guys have a huge selection of stuff. Also, I didnt go up, but their upstairs is dedicated to gaming space! Will be back next time I'm in North Carolina!

This place was a breath of fresh air. I spoke with the owner who was kind, knowledgeable and respectful. The owner game me information and options but didn't pressure a sale. Way cool place to get games and game accesories. Sometimes you can haggle on prices but honestly theyre priced pretty great to begin with. They also have an upstairs space to play games in if you need a place to host a game, talk with the owners about scheduling!

I'm really happy to have this place be in Asheville and to see them being successful. I've bought numerous items from them and if it's not in stock, they'll pre-order it. The staff is super friendly also. They are personable and laid back and up for conversation and "game talk". I'm not in there as often as I'd like to be but they always recognize and remember me and on a few occasions have anticipated a future buy and pre-ordered something in advance that they figured I'd want. I come here for X-Wing products. They always have a good selection, and are very helpful. Both Kent and Decklan are very friendly and helpful when I have questions or requests. There is plenty of space upstairs to play games, be it DND-esque or tabletop. There isn't any charge to use this space, but I'm usually sure to buy my stuff there as a sort of payment.

The staff / owner's are helpful, respectful and child friendly along with a strong Pathfinder community (which is a version of D&D 3.5). As I previewed their store I intently stayed to determine and test their atmosphere, knowledge and store resolve's...I am Proud to say they passed, and I'm glad...The Wyvern's Tale is a place that I would take my children to have fun and explore their gaming imagination. Very cool! Tucked away game store! If you didn't know it was there, it'd be easy to miss but seek it out so you don't! I've said this before and I'll say it again. Any store with a bend full of dice to dig through is a 10 in my book! They have literally everything you would need for any tabletop game plus board games and an entire room dedicated to guidebooks! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly! Plus a game room upstairs! Again 10 out of 10!
