Aisle upon aisle of books! Haven for bookworms. They're impressively organized and have tons of collection in different genres and topics. They also have music CDs and a huge section for kids. Definitely worth visiting!

Great and vast selection of books. Lots of special finds as well like first and second editions as well as signed and personally dedicated one of a kind copies. Not only a great selection in literature but they also had a pretty decent amount of music as well. I would go here over big book stores any day. The prices are hard to beat and the atmosphere is amazing! 10/10

The organization system has gotten confusing, and they've gotten very picky about what they will accept from you. Several books are priced at Ebay prices, even if those are not appropriate to their market. Many books seem to be shelved randomly. I used to work in a bookstore, and the lack of routine maintenance on the organization makes me sad. We are readers, and it's as if they are only looking for the hard to find stuff, not the stuff that will trade hands many times. They've become a collector and less of a traditional used book store, carrying collectible figures brand new and such. They used to take almost anything written we were letting go of, now, very little. It's no longer fun for us to go there, but you can find somethings there that are more in demand.

Huge selection, well organized, far reaching variety of subjects. They also carry CDs and vinyl records, and even collectibles. There's a steady stream of new items being brought in by patrons, who then get a shopping credit in store. Check first to see if they're taking your type of books. WARNING: Hours can be spent exploring!

This is my favorite used media store in the Asheville area. The associates here are always incredibly nice and very helpful. Mr K's has an excellent selection of books, movies, cds, comics and manga, and a lot more! Plus they also have a very nice rare books section and they have a nice trade credit policy to turn your old books into new ones. 5/5 for this location, thanks Mr. K's! 📚

This is a great used book store to pick up not only used books, but used movies and music, as well, at reasonable prices. You can also sell your unwanted books, movies, and music. It's the biggest used book store in town that I know of. Since we live an hour away, we try to come as often as we can when we're in town.

Always one of my favorite places to go in Asheville. I can find books here I don't see anywhere else. While some of the prices are high (but of course I'm cheap) most books are super reasonable and worth the purchase. I love the fact you can trade in books for credit and put that towards new purchases. And the fact they offer every genre imaginable in books plus tons of music makes this a store for the whole family. I'd you're in the area, you have to stop in and find one (or 20) books to add to your collection!

Of course it’s a weapons free store so you automatically feel unsafe because criminals don’t follow the laws. Employees were rude and not helpful in fact they acted as if they you were disturbing them. Just overpriced old books. I will continue ordering online. It’s safer also.

What can I say, this place is heaven for book lovers and nerds alike. Anyone can find something they like in this store. It’s one of my favorite places to browse. I don’t have experience trading anything in so I’m not sure how that works.

The bookstore is very nice and clean. Staff is friendly. Good selection of books too. However some of the books I looked at were about double the price of something used on Amazon or eBay (with shipping included), although most weren’t this high. It may be due to just how long they’ve had it in stock. I’ve been to other McKay’s in NC and TN, and I would say they have the highest prices. These prices just aren’t worth coming in for in my opinion, but maybe they offer higher return when buying books.

This is undoubtedly one of the best used book stores you will ever find. It's a shame some of their locations closed years back but that just makes it a destination for me now. The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they do and are eager to help. Go kill some time. You will find it was well spent.

They no longer have places to sit (my wife misses their seating), so if you have trouble standing for long periods of time, know what you are looking for before you go. They don't take/have small/independent press or "print on demand" books, but they do have a little bit of everything else. Even comic books, gaming manuals, DVDs, and more. It's a nice place to go exploring (if you can stand for a while).

What a fantastic gem this place is! We stopped in while on vacationing in the area to browse for something interesting to read by the fire. Instead, we were consumed for hours poring over the nuggets of literary gold buried among the stacks. We were amazed at the condition of the books, the breadth of selection, and the condition of the store. It was exceptionally clean, well-organized, well-lighted, staff were friendly and helpful, prices for items in their HUGE collection are more than fair. In addition, there's a huge selection of records, toys, and children's materials. I've never seen a used bookstore like this and will definitely be back.

Great for books, music, and movies but sometimes a bit outrageous with yellow ticket item mark-up, especially board games. Don't get me wrong: the staff is great and I know the business model requires a certain amount of mark-up, but charging new prices for used things, while lowballing credit given for those same items, is venturing a little into classic Gamestop territory. I've had credit at the store for 3 years now because every time I visit, the only used books/CD's/records/games I'm interested in are yellow-stickered. Even if you traded in an autographed Beatles record, you wouldn't be allowed to buy yellow stickered items with credit. I know this is one of the ways they make money, but it still stings when you trade in high value items and are told you are allowed to buy anything except the items you are interested in. In summary: fantastic selection and staff, but you're gonna get burned if you trade in records and/or games expecting to get the same with the credit you receive. As long as you stick to trading used books for used books, you'll be just fine.

It sure is a pleasure just to go to a good old-fashioned bookstore let alone a good old fashion used bookstore. I miss the book tactile experience. So many good book stores have closed. If you’re in town visiting you should try this one out you’ll really enjoy it or if you’re a book lover! I bring my family members here when they come to visit.

This is absolutely mt favorite bookstore. Amazing and fair prices, wonderful selection and so many genres typical bookstores don't have sections for. Alot of unique and cool books you can't find anywhere else. Has a few couches to read on, you can keep trading your books in for book credit in the store, they also carry loads of DVD, CD, & Records. Stationery books, journals, stickers and buttons, games, tons of quirky and interesting finds you've probably never seen before. I love Mr.Ks. THE best.... yuh

I pop in every once in a while to see if they have any books in an author's series that I am working on buying all the books. My latest foray had me standing next to the sweetest and most helpful employee while I was searching. She not only took me to another place to look but also went and searched in the back - all without me asking. I found 6 books of the series that I didn't own yet! I also had a pleasant experience with another employee in the YA section. Those employees are so knowledgeable and helpful! Best used bookstore in WNC.

Other than trying to figure out where a book is in store I enjoy browsing the isles. Music, game, videos etc.. Would recommend making time for your visit as they do not keep inventory. Personally I would enjoy a larger children's section though well planned. Overall a good bookstore, reasonably priced. Parking is not an issue. Clean environment. Definitely worth checking out. Higher stars if they could advise you if a certain publication was in stock. Enjoy

Growing up in Johnson City, the local Mr K’s was influential in defining what I view as a “good” used bookstore. While this location doesn’t have the same “comfortable” feeling the other gives off (due entirely to they type of building both inhabit, and through no fault of the store), I was still impressed. Everything is clean, well-organized, and accessible, with friendly staff and the best possible usage of the space occupied. This bookstore was well worthwhile for a visit.

While they do have CD's, DVD's, games, etc., I go there for their vast selection of books. Why pay retail, when you can buy it here at a much reduced price? The staff is very helpful, too. Besides helping find the selection I wanted, one of the staff members went even further, pointing out that the hardback version was less expensive, than the paperback I was going to buy. Definitely the place to go for books.

What can I say that could get across just how much I adore this place? They are reasonably priced, the staff is well educated, yhey take trade or pay you for what you bring in (your choice), and its such a great atmosphere! They almost always have something that I just can't walk out of there without. Today it was an oddities book (Chicken Inspector No 23), 2 cookbooks, a sketch journal (Kiki's Delivery Service!) for my daughter, a comic for my husband, and a game to play with him. The only thing I have to say thats not positive is I miss the couches where you could sit and delve into the books you picked a little more, but that's being nitpicky and its Covid times soooo no complaints :)

For someone who has a book obsession, this place is awesome. I really like that they label down to sub-subgenres, so you have weird horror and teen pop fiction and a while row just dedicated to Stephen King. They also have a large number of movies and records. I could spend hours in this store if I'm not careful.

This place is the BEST! I came here the first time looking to make some extra cash and clean out some corners of my house that were being consumed by my reading habit. I've sold lots of books but have yet to make any money or clean out my house because there's such an amazing selection. By the time they've sorted through all of my items I'm back at the check out with books spilling out of my basket.

This is an amazing and hidden treasure of Ashevielle. With so many bookstores it would be quick to dismiss Mr K’s as a bigger more Barnes and Noble type feel but it is not. Mr. K’s offers a great selection of not just books, games, music and in some cases Tarot Cards. I have never had any bad examples of customer service and the individuals behind the desk are very knowledgeable.

Mr. K's will always be my favorite bookstore. Recently they had posted a Stephen King post and a book I wanted was in the picture. I couldn't find the book on the shelf and went up to ask if they had it hidden behind the desk. Lucky me they did. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I've been a fan of this location for almost 10 years and I will always choose to get my books from them over other competitors.

If you are looking to sell a large box of school books or any other books for that matter they don't offer a very good price, even if you have to take the time to sort through them beforehand which can be very time consuming, it wasn't worth the effort. That being said however I did enjoy exploring the store, they do have a nice selection of book's and vinyl records in stock.

I love how they organize the store breaking every section down into genres and then Sub genres, making it very easy to find books on your interests. Plus the Working staff there is great! This is the place to go for used books in Asheville. They have a ton of books, well organized and in every category, including new books and recent bestsellers. Some used book stores offer little beyond what you'd find at Goodwill but this is not the case here. They also have a healthy music selection (vinyl and CD) with an occasional exciting find. The prices are fair whether buying or selling, and the friendly, competent staff is quick to help you with either.

I love bookstores and this place has an expansive selection, with the added bonus of DVDs and Blu Ray discs. They have excellent prices and the movies are guaranteed for a week. You can also bring in items to trade in for cash or credit depending. I like this idea of profit recycling. It works out well for patrons and the business. The staff is friendly and items are organized well. They also started carrying older video games and consoles.

I have used this store many times and love the variety and the prices are about on par with used books from amazon when you factor in the shipping. I have never had any issues with the short man with the glasses. I have always found the staff to be kind and very willing to help. I am headed there this week to reload for the holiday season- especially to buy presents for friends and family who love to receive r/r/r/r gifts! (reduce, reuse, recycle,reread!)

Terrific place. I have been going there for about 7-8 years now and it's always exciting to go there and not know what your going to find. The people who work there are always super nice and helpful (There was one small guy with glasses who worked there who was a big stick in the mud, but he must've left or been fired because I haven't seen him in years).

The used books are priced pretty well. Occasionally, there is a treasure hiding in plain sight. The new books and yellow tagged items are what you would expect to pay from an independent bookstore. All in all, the selection is incredible and the staff is helpful. What more do you want from a bookstore.

I get cracked up reading about "the shorter man with glasses" here. For me - he's the sort of personality type I'd expect to run a used book store. I like him - he adds stoic character to the store. I've been going here for years and years. Just this year I started selling off my personal library, and I now bring a lot in for trade credit or cash. I've found some great things over the years, and I've come in with some great things for the store too. As long as these guys are in business I'll be dropping in to see what's new on the shelves.

This is one of the only book stores I go to anymore, while they do offer new releases it's the rare and unexpected finds that will surprise and astound you. And the fact that you can walk out of Mr.K's with arms full of books for the same price you can get a paperback and a coffee at the more mainstream booksellers. To anyone with a love of books and literature it's an absolute can't miss spot that I will, and have, taken almost everyone I know, I assume it's become quite annoying over the years.

Love this bookstore! I drive 20 minutes just to go here. They are one of the only bookstores that actually carries gently used board books, and they have sections for children's books in different languages (my son is learning Spanish in preschool, so this is a huge plus for us!).

Barns n noble without the kindles and the coffee shop... You can tell right away they have a high standard for the inventory they buy...Aside from the tacky label system they use, I really appreciate their commitment to quality and organization...I read some of the negative reviews about employee personality and customers having their intelligence insulted and how they won't be back - GOOD!!! I wish only intelligent people left reviews...it's funny how people want a hardly used book for yard sale prices and want to get paid retail for their trash they bring in...what planet are you from?
