Reviews of Battery Park Book Exchange
Miriam W.
I absolutely love the atmosphere of this place. Lots of old books, a layout that could confuse someone with a map. Champagne and other drinks available! What could be better? My only complaint has ever been the service. I generally feel that I'm kind of bothering anyone that I've interacted with when I've been there. Not that I've had particularly BAD service, it just hasn't been the best. Otherwise, 5 stars all the way.

When you’re done with Asheville’s brewery scene, enjoy a glass of wine in a cozy used book store! Known for its flights of champagne, Battery Park Book Exchange actually offers a wide wine selection (though the champagne choices are top shelf and were perfectly paired with local chocolate truffles). The menu offers a book title theme: We enjoyed the “Moby Dip” to start, including pimento cheese and trout dips with warm toasted bread and hearty crackers. The “Goat Expectations” sandwich was a nice change of pace from basic offerings elsewhere; the warm goat cheese pairing with juicy strawberries was very nice. Continuing the “book” theme, even the check arrived in an old Dr. Seuss book, and patrons may add their own message inside. The books are also for sale and we took a few home. This is just a great wine bar and unique date spot and I’m sure we will return our next time back in Asheville.

Bookstore & Champagne Bar?!?!?!
I mean...COME...ON...FOLKS...hands down one of the coolest spots to grab a drink, food, books, listen to live music and EVEN get married at in downtown Asheville!
While visiting Asheville this past spring i went back two times for that decadent and delectable smoked trout and pimento cheese board with a side of Italian bubbly.
So many nooks and crannies to enjoy a book and your meal.
The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed 1 of the 2 days i visited possibly bc of the wedding but not a big deal, just gave us more time to slowly sip the prosecco and enjoy the 3 piece band.
Would absolutely you stop in and take the experience all in!

Interesting concept that was a pleasant afternoon diversion. We had the Mimosa Flight with a Cheese Charcuterie in the bar area. Both were very good and then afterwards we browsed the bookstore. The Service was very good. The books are all used with some early editions in evidence. A nice place to unwind on off hours or non-peak times.

Amazing place!!!
We went for an afternoon tea on a Sunday. There were live chill music and in addition to great selection of wine and champagne, you can browse a wide variety of books mostly used.

Visited with my mom and Aunt, Elaine McPherson - who lives in Asheville. Highly recommend a visit here! Loved the atmosphere - food was good, and music was perfect for chilling on a Friday evening. Look forward to visiting again!

This place is such a little treasure. The concept of a book store that serves food, cocktails, and bakery items is brilliant. I love the different levels with books galore and seating on every level. My only complaint was the not so friendly hostess. I was alone and wanted to sit outside but the table offered to me was inside and felt out in the open. If I was with someone else I may not have minded but I felt a little on display. I asked if I could sit outside but she said nothing was available but a few minutes later sat a couple outside. I still enjoyed myself and my waiter was fantastic, I wish I remembered his name.
Adam Mutch
One of the best used book stores I've ever been to. It's like stepping onto a movie set. Buy some books and then sit down for a cocktail and a cheese plate. Great place.
Anne Klockenkemper
Books of all kinds, amazing decor, a trio playing 1930's French jazz when we were there, and some incredible desserts--we wanted to move in and never leave!
Karen McNally
Added an extra indulgence to my fabulous trip to the mountains to Asheville and stopped for a treat at Battery Park Book Exchange. My 89 years young Mom and I enjoyed wonderful wine while my husband enjoyed a craft beer, even though this was a delightful Champagne bar, so many delicious options for everyone!!! The sandwiches and charcuterie board were top notch and surely made us know we will be back next time to Asheville!!!
Jonathan
They have the best staff and it’s such a unique and beautiful place. It definitely needs to be on people’s list to visit whilst in Asheville.
We were there to celebrate and the staff were so lovely. Even our server ran after us as we were leaving to give us the cork from the bottle of champagne we had to make sure we had a memento as a small keepsake. It was very thoughtful. We wish we could have stayed longer to celebrate!
Thank you all at the Book Exchange for helping make it a special day!

The staff were EXCELLENT. The menu was bizarre. It's a great place to grab a drink outside but on the whole, it just seemed disjointed.
The drink menu ranges from wildly expensive, true champagne, to regular priced wines and wine-based cocktails.
The food menu was thematic, with items named after books, poetry, or series. Cute idea, poor execution. Whoever came up with those names, points for trying.
We sat outside at a cute little high-top and ordered drinks.
The place was mostly full of older, visibly wealthy patrons and there was live music.
Our drinks came out in heavy crystal flutes. The wines were lovely.
We didn't order food, so I can't speak to that, but we enjoyed ourselves. The check came out in a Dr. Seuss hardback, with the bill tucked into a little paper pocket like you'd get at the library a million years ago.
Again, disjointed - a brightly colored kid's book in a place that seemed to be aiming for class.
I'd love to go back and try the food and to see if what I experienced was a fluke, because the idea is delightful.

The exchange no longer offers food as of my visit on 9/22/22. They do still offer bakery items (scones, pie, and cookies) but nothing substantial. I had the champagne flight and a savory scone, they were both lovely. The drink selection is diverse enough for all tastes and includes cocktails. It is a unique spot with a beautiful outdoor space, I would highly recommend. Just remember to eat first! No longer offering food is the only reason I did not give 5 stars
Donna Gardner
I enjoyed olives. Wine tasting and book browsing. How wonderful!
Great service and unbeatable atmosphere
Rod Hobbs
A Hidden Gem that is not to be missed. Fresh baked scones and other baked goods will accompany food, snacks and wines and other drinks. Great service from Emily, too.
Nancy Marak
Oh my gosh. What a great little place! And such a “novel” 😉 idea! Champagne and books! We ate lunch outside. Ordered the charcuterie trays and were not disappointed. Also ordered the flight of champagne…hands down the Bellini was the best. Tea service was awesome. Our server was delightful; the weather was perfect; we enjoyed our experience so much and never felt rushed.
Jordyn Tayloe
Came into the store and they were clearly setting up for an event or something but it was odd because they had been open for a couple hours already? Anyways no biggie but they sat us right in the middle of all of there decorating so it was a bit weird. Food was tasty but looking at the books ended up sucking because every time you looked at a shelf a waitress would ask you to move for them, again they can’t help that but the layout wasn’t great. Just wasn’t exactly what we’d hoped for after seeing the other reviews and description.
Marty Collins
What a magical place! Their wine is more superb than Isa's and Bouchon, the patio is warm, comfy and inviting but their library is out of Charles Dickens and Harry Potter! Truly a place you could lose yourself in and never want to leave! Also, the servers are fantastically superb!
Jay Curley
My wife and I went here and we were absolutely amazed.
So many books !
But guess what?
They have an amazing staff and they serve food and beverages.
But wait!
They also have local musicians that come in and perform wonderful live music .
Also there is heated outdoor seating.
Very comfortable and very cozy.
We were very relaxed and had great conversations. Definitely check this wonderful place out when visiting the downtown area of Asheville.
We can't wait to return.
Elizabeth Tenen
This place is amazing. We stopped by on Friday afternoon and absolutely loved everything about it. If you like books this place is a must! Great atmosphere, service, selection of wines and champagnes. Highly recommend!
Jessica Toney
Some of the reviews almost scared me off but I'm glad I went. I went on a Wednesday at noon. You were free to just peruse (with or without a drink) or sit and eat. The host was super personable, and the server was quick and nice. Beautiful place to stop in!
Carly Lewis
This is my second time going to book exchange. The first time the hostess was extremely rude and the waitress did not come check on us at all after we received our food and drinks. Today, which makes the second time, the hostess sat a couple down that was behind us on the wait list. The hostess was an older lady with glasses. When I approached her about it she rolled her eyes. I tipped my amazing waiter Cadence a good tip regardless of the hostess and her rude demeanor. I suggest to have patience towards the rude hostess if you decide to go.
David West
My wife Lisa and I just had the most awesome experience here. Donna, the owner, was able to accommodate us among a full establishment. She attended to us personally, and the food we ordered was amazing. Extensive wine list and several great selections on the menu. Highly recommended. Will be back next trip to Ashville.
Bryan Jackson
Pretty unique combo: books and bubbly! We would like to come back when things are normal again! Very nice drinks, and a lot of books to explore. We liked it so much, we visited twice in two days.
The champagne fights are nice, and you get a little lesson about each one you try.
The cocktail list was sparse, but that may have been due to the current Covid situation. The ones we tried were delicious, though.
Cory Anders
This is a great bookstore with friendly staff and a great vibe. Great selection of champagne and wine and lots of snack and desserts. The books are fantastic and a little bit of everything. We made new friends here and recommend this as a must stop in Ashville. Check out our review and more photos @jwandcoryadventures
Kristi Walters
Such a great place for a small afternoon snack and drink! Book store is awesome as well! I visit every time I'm in Asheville. Wait staff is very knowledgeable about the champagne they offer! Charcuterie board is delish!
Salina Sanchez
This place has a great concept! You can go have a couple of drinks and a quick bite or just go in and enjoy the books (and maybe buy one or two).
Alyssa Inciong
Wow what a gem! We were walking back to the car on the way from brunch and saw a few shelves of books from the front window. Since we both love books we decided to walk in to glance at their selection. I was so surprised by what we saw as we continued through the store. It was one of those places I could spend all day just drinking coffee and getting lost in a good book. The smell of croissants floating in the air and the cozy feeling of shelves filled with books of all kinds. This is now one of my favorite places in downtown Asheville and I’m glad we made one last stop on the way out.
Rebecca Phillips
Fun place for reading drinking and eating. Our party each had a flight of champagne and then 2 different charcuterie boards. The waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. Very cool place. If ever back in Asheville I will definitely come again
Reyne Terrebonne
Words can't express how much I loved this place! Books and champagne? Yes, please! My favorite part was when the owner visited our table, to discuss each champagne in my flight. A truly unique experience!
Andre Janssens
Classic and enchanting bookstore. You feel like you have entered a magical place. The way it's all set up and arranged is a marvelous experience to savour. This place should be a landmark to be treasured by all in this wonderful city of Asheville. My words cannot fully describe it ...you must see it for yourself.
Lauren Trotter
I actually don't know how it is because it was listed as a bookstore and we were turned away at the door because there's a no laptop use policy. I bet it's still amazing but this is not a place to go hang out, get coffee and check out books. Restaurant seating only.
Jade DeWitt
A friend and I visited on a Saturday around lunch time and were seated with no wait. The champagne drinks were good, the vibe was great, but the burrata and cheese board were AMAZING.
Meghan
When you have to decide between books and booze - don't! This place is amazing you enter on the street outside Grove Arcade, and you're met with a wall of champagnes and tons of books. There are three floors and tons of hidden seats hidden within the stacks. Stay and cozy up with a book and coffee or a lovely flute of champagne or a cocktail. In order to use the seat you are supposed to have ordered food and/or drink beforehand.
Scott Dickinson
What a unique venue! This was an absolute oasis to find during these troubled times, a bookstore with a great wine list and h'orderves. If you're visiting Asheville, take the time to visit this lovely spot, buy a book or three and enjoy the outside patio. And it was a delightful surprise to get our check in the Dr. Seuss book, Green Eggs and Ham. Enjoy!
Kelly Dale
This is the most amazing eclectic book store I've ever been to. It not only is a book store but also has a coffee shop and wine bar. Lots of places to sit and work/read/drink. There is a great seating area upstairs where you can overlook the first floor. They also have a selection of rare books for sale. Only problem with this store is that the isles are narrow so it can be cumbersome to get through on a busy day. Make sure you have plenty of time to browse!
Sylvie Parbus
A must see if you are a tourist, and a great go for locals. Tons of book choices. Dog-friendly! Cocktails, champagne, coffee. The apple brie sandwich was excellent! Funky corner seats and couches to relax.
Jennifer lynn
Very nice selection of champagne. Cheese plates and chocolates. Friendly service. Walls and walks of books with plenty of nooks and crannies to cozy up. Such a neat spot. Put it on your list, impress your date! They also accommodate small parties. We held a bachelorette shower here and it was perfect. Visiting Asheville with kids? There is a kid section upstairs. Grab a drink while the kids explore and read then walk up the street to the pinball museum.
Matthew Snider
Wonderful place to spend an afternoon. Eclectic selection of good condition books covering a wide breadth of genres and a multitude of nooks and crannies to seek out hidden literary gems. It also hosts a dessert and champagne bar to accompany you while browsing and the atmosphere is very conducive to staying a while and not realize time is flying by.
Ann Bridgers
This place is actually a pinball museum in a bustling downtown experience. Found it on a whim and scored big. I was disappointed with the pricing structure so we didn’t stay too long. Be prepared to pay 15 a person no matter what. Though that price guarantees you all-day admission, we had too many other items on our agenda so we explored the selections and then left shortly after. Alcohol is served here which helps. I wish they had a quick pass here for in and out visitors like myself.
Patrick Carwile
A neat little space to gather with friends. The hostess could be a little more friendly, but the wait staff was awesome. I would definitely stop here again.
Jamie Jefferson
What a delightful cafe. Cannot recommend enough the Goat Expectations sandwich enough. Take time to wander upstairs and see what gems they have tucked away. Very elegant atmosphere, perfect for a date. Grab a cheese board and some tea for two, or lunch and a book. They even have pie?! Can they be more perfect??
MarkyMark TV
Absolutely loved this place. Keep in mind, this is not a library, so you can’t grab a book and read it while inside. But I love the concept and it’s a nice vibe. Whether you want to just walk around or grab a drink, dessert, charcuterie board, etc and relax, the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back.
Cristie Ashe
What a lovely book store!! Super dog-friendly! Delicious coffee, treats, and champagne! Such a neat layout and atmosphere. Lots of cozy sitting areas for small and large groups. Amazing book selection. I absolutely loved my visit here!
Amelia Lee
Wonderful experience for literary themed drinks and food! You're seated in a dining area with cafe tables and chairs or comfy couches in the bookstore. The drinks and food are named after classic novels, and there's a non-alcoholic menu so everyone can be included! It's a great champagne bar in a bookstore that I absolutely adore.
Skyler Villines
While we were disappointed that pups aren’t allowed inside anymore (nor are they allowed on any seating), the staff was still kind and offered lots of treats for our pup! They also were very helpful about what drinks they recommended! Amazing drinks and snacks, and a wonderful seating area outside. Would definitely recommend stopping here if you are in Asheville!
Robyn
We had a great time here yesterday. We stopped by to get some books and stayed to split a sandwich and enjoy some drinks. We got the Count of Monte Croissant with tuna, provolone, and heirloom tomato on a toasty croissant. It was served with a fresh springy salad of mixed green, English peas, artichoke hearts, and champagne vinaigrette. Overall, delicious. The setting is beautiful but not super conducive to eating a meal. If you are looking to eat a full lunch, you could get seated and more of a coffee table style table, which can be messy. For boards, drinks and desserts, the seating is fine. It is quite expensive, but such can be expected in pricey Asheville.
Therese D
Highly recommended!! Staff was literally the sweetest and nice! Food was amazing best hummus I've ever had! Bellini mimosa 😋👌 will be back!!! …
Daisy Schechter
My favorite book store to visit while staying in Asheville. Unique setting for a tasty meal and a cocktail.
Troy Toney
We got a table on the corner outside with 3 couches and an umbrella. 3 couples. Shared some wine and had some beer and got some charcuterie with extra bread and meat. All was delicious! It was fun to enjoy the outside but shady and have a great meal. Very memorable!
Diane Blanks
This is an exciting combination of new and used books for sale inside with little niches to settle down and read. Book are also for sale along with unique gift items and pastries. But wait there's more. It also has indoor and outdoor dining with a jazz trio playing . The menu is clever and the fare was delicious. Great evening in a marvelous rehabbed building. My waitress Natalie was enthusiastic and came over several times to check my satisfaction. It was a great evening. I'm looking forward to going there again.
Nidal Hamzey
I could spend all day here. I love books. I love champagne. I love charcuterie. The menu is creatively worded (everything is book themed). The champagne cocktails are tasty. Their champagne selection impressive. The vibe is calm and casual. Absolutely love it.
Meghan Reid
As a book and champagne lover, this place was my dream! A very nice and classy place to drink champagne and grab a gently used book. I got a newer book that was on sale for only $10!
Robert Cook
Wonderful place as far as feel, books, space, food, drinks, etc. Worth the walk through and even better to stop and have some food and drinks.
SG Woods
One of my favorite book stores of all time. And out of my favorites, it definitely has the most unique ambience. Tall shelves, books lovingly arranged, great champagne!
Alan Finn
This is a cool, eclectic bookstore (and champagne bar) that reminds me of the best old bookstores in London. Lots of little aisles and cubbies worth your while to explore. The food going by looked great, but we didn't eat. We're going to come back for that. Great place to hang out!
Chelsea Evans
I love this place so much. I hadn't been since I moved away from Asheville a few years ago but it's still wonderful. I do wish it was a little easier to look at books along travel pathways in the store but otherwise it's the best.
Lori Spitzer
A cool place to explore. I found a Lisbeth Zwerger children's compilation that interested me, but it was pricey (not ridiculously so) considering that I already have all but one of the individual works contained within it. I also found two or three other children's books of interest. I looked online while standing in front of the bookcase and found other used ones for significantly lower prices, so the items stayed there. I was most interested in a beautiful arts/ crafts-style leaded - glass lamp. I was told it wasn't for sale. I thought the prices were a little high here but the seating areas and atmosphere were really cool, full of character. I thought the signs stating not to take books to seating area were somewhat annoying. I'd been walking for some time already the day I visited and had a heavy bag to tote around. Of course, I put down the bag but just having to stay on my feet to look was an irritation.... And unnecessary, IMO. I left after about 30 min without purchasing anything. If I'd seen something sensational, I'd have bought it. But I didn't.
Michelle Berrisford
Such a relaxing atmosphere. Makes you want to curl up in a corner with a book and never leave. They have a great drink selection and the charcuterie boards are on point!
Ayana Dusenberry
One of my favorite spots in Asheville to sit outside and people watch. It's such a special space inside as well, with an incredible selection of books and artwork on the walls and all these nooks to find and relax in with a glass or two. Staff is always exceptional.
Daniel Stewart
After visiting this place, I had a sudden revelation of why there will continue to be a market for brick and mortar bookstores in this digital and 2-day delivery age: you cannot 2-day deliver or digitally enjoy the experience of Prosecco, cheese board + salami, and the company of those you love in an immersive environment that inspires you to stay for hours and read that new book that called to you from the shelves. All that said I order a lot online myself and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at BPBE and highly recommend you plan to visit!
Johnny Gomes
awesome shot with an amazing selection of books to choose from. Coffee bar as well as alcoholic beverages. Great lounge to sit and socialize, read, and simply enjoy a little bit of downtime.
tinesha erskine
Absolutely delicious. The ambiance was moody, calm, and perfect. They have plenty of vegan options. We had the vegab charcuterie board and vegan sandwich paired with a sparkling wine. Would definitely come back.
Amy H
My 12yo was very excited to have dinner here (she studied The menu) but we arrived just after 5pm to find out that they cannot seat or serve anyone under 21 after 5pm. Very disappointing. Just an fyi.
Oliver Scheele
This bookshop and champagne bar is easily my favorite place in Asheville. You can always find new uses books in a variety of genres. Also, it is nice and cool. The interior design is awesome and makes you want to stay for one more coffee.
Kelli Matheny
Stopped by on a Friday. What a lovely evening it was. Wine & cheeseboard on the patio with live music inside. Fabulous service!
BOBE has a European flair about it. There are lots of little nooks to enjoy a glass of wine.
I originally came here to look for a book, but I got so mesmerized with the wine and the music I didn’t do much browsing of books.
Will be back for exploring and perhaps another glass of wine or two.
Robin Whitwham
Extensive collection of wines, great ambiance and a classy setting.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and if you have a dog you can bring it too, which makes them alright in my book.
Jimin Seo
Always come by whenever I visit Asheville downtown. It’s so charming and comfortable and welcoming and chic. Their selection of books and great pricing as well as the large amount of intimate space. They have a lovely space on the side where they serve drinks and live music so you can sip and listen to music if you want to read. They have a second floor with lower ceilings if you want a quieter darker leather couch and table setting. I LOVE THIS PLACE
Marie B
We come to Asheville a few times a year and always stop here with our dogs. Funky, comfortable atmosphere, great used book selection with some rare items, and excellent coffee. The service is great and they are super dog friendly. My husband enjoys the beer and wine selection.
Korey Gardner
My new favorite place in Asheville! Great vibes and we enjoyed a cheese board and drinks.
Victoria Rosado-Cohen
Okay I swear I’ve died and gone to heaven. This has got to be my favorite place I’ve visited. Like ever. Books, wine, charcuterie boards. Literally the best. Check this place out!
Andria Cantu
I love getting lost in row after row of books so they basically had me at used bookstore. Add in the fact that they also have a great wine and champagne selection and relaxing vibe and I’m 100% sold. It’s definitely a nice place to come catch up with girlfriends or to sit and sip with a good book and do some people watching. All in all a nice, unique spot that is great for locals or visitors alike.
Sarah Wolfe
One of my favorite places in Asheville! It's very cozy, they have books, coffee, beer, wine, and a few cocktails. Plenty of cozy seating options, but the seats are for food/drink customers. Make sure you check out the second level!
Robert SethWard
Had a fantastic lunch. Service was great. This is a really good place to have lunch outside when the weather is good.
Lynda Engler
If you are looking for a wide selection of newer, popular books, look elsewhere. Their scifi section had like 20 books and there were very few kids books. That being said, there are a lot of genres and a lot of older, eclectic titles you won't find anywhere else. If you just want to shop for books, go to a different store. This place is a restaurant and bar, with books as a side business. Great place for food and drinks, with a literary atmosphere. Bookworms, not so much. It's a 1 way path through 2 floors of genres (stairs, no handicapped access), and when you worked the maze to the end, you have to backtrack through it all to get to single register to pay and leave. And there isn't a clear waiting, because, books are their side gig.
Jennifer Youssef
We loved our afternoon spent on the terrace! Wine was delicious and the cheese board was perfect!
Emily Franklin
Definitely one of our favorite places in Asheville. Will make it a point to visit every time we go back. The seating outside was comfortable. All the charcuterie boards looked delicious. The two we picked had a great selection of food and were very satisfying. The sangria was amazing and the waitstaff was very helpful in recommending drinks to fit our craving. A must do if you are visiting Asheville!
Danielle Coppola
Such a unique place! It was a perfect spot to kill time while waiting for rain to pass. The store is winding, with bookshelves everywhere, and there's tables dotted throughout as well to enjoy food and drink at. We didn't order any food, but saw several meat and cheese boards that looked amazing. We did order drinks, and all I can say is the sangria is a MUST! We also left with a few books, as the pricing here was fair.
Eric Wenzel
This may be the most welcoming and comfortable bookstore in the planet. Dog friendly, comfy chairs, offering coffee and wine. Great decor and more. Wish there was one closer to my home!
Bethany Manning
Champagne flights and live music. Perfect setting for my bachelorette weekend kick off. The waitresses were precious women who seemed very knowledgeable about tea and champagne and the musicians were fabulous. Even with COVID, it was spectacular.
ESB III
Charming and rather sophisticated with a great selection of champagnes and wines. Notorious Pink was especially delicious despite its cryptic name. Very dog friendly.
Cordell Hughes
Sunday morning, before we headed back home, we dropped by one of our favorite Asheville haunts... this place is fantastic...they love your dogs, and and the cakes are to die for. We never miss the opportunity to visit when in town...today there was a live trio(pictured )...they are superb musicians (and well versed in music theory)
Caywood Yamnik
Officially my favorite place in Asheville. Great variety of books for sale, really cool vibe inside. And outdoor seating for a glass of wine was great. Hummus plate was delicious and a great value!
Bill Lynch
Super chill environment, perfect spot to browse the books and enjoy a champagne cocktail. Beer selection is limited, but local stalwarts. Stephanie our server was attentive and personable without smothering. We enjoyed the hummus board, made with local product, pita was warm and toasty, the olives full of briny goodness. Lovely venue to people watch in stylish digs.
Cara A McCown
This beautiful and charming coffee/tea/champagne bar/book shop makes you feel like you're in an old school library with comfy leather seats in little corner nooks. So glad we stopped in for a drink and a read.
Sarah Lansky
What could be better than bubbles and books! Beautiful selection of cheeses and bubbles BTG. A definite treat and break from the brews.
Andrea Reese
I never would have thought to combine books and champagne but it was an adorable spot. They had great book themed cocktails, delicious charcuterie boards and we were able to browse the book shelves while we waiting for our food. There was live music which only added to the great atmosphere.
David A Ruch
So we love this place. Sat outside this time. Every time we visit from Charlotte we order a charcuterie board and a bottle of wine. We love it when Emily is available as she is a great server even when things sometimes go sideways with an order. We will be back and we will ask for her again.
Brent Sullivan
Unique setting, diverse menu. Good music. Attentive, Good service by staff. Try it out.
Vincent “License Guy” DiAngelus
Nice place. Cool live music. Lots of interesting books. Plan on spending some time exploring the nooks on both floors.
Luke Coffey
One of, if not the best, bookstore I’ve been in. In one walk through I was seeing Wendell Berry, Annie Dillard, Rick Bass, Jim Harrison, Peter Matthiessen, Joyce Carol Oates, Jamaica Kincaid, all the classics, loads of Thomas Wolfe (of course). I came away with three 1st ed.1st prints of Wendell Berry.
Comfortable, great atmosphere, classic decor. I look forward to returning.
Clinton Cimring
Food and atmosphere is amazing but the staff looks at you like you have 3 heads if you try to order anything. If there is some sort of code word you’re supposed to say I did not get that memo... Very pet friendly otherwise - my dog had an amazing time.
Melanie
Such a fun place to hang out and walk around. So many interesting finds. The vegan cheese plate was so good.
Sam Bryant
The staff are lovely, service excellent and the charcuterie was yummy too..what a fun place 👍 …
Asa Burke
Live French jazz trio in the afternoon, incredible. English tea service was very fun and fit the vibe. We really enjoyed the Hummus board, and the fun menu item names. 12 out of 10.
Vicky Adhikari
Love the vibe of this place. I have been to a lot of places that advertise themselves as bookstore cafes, but they hold no charm in front of the Batery park Book exchange. This place is Ina. League of its own.
The book shelves are arranged and marked well. The book collection is affluent.
The food and beverage menu is also decent. We ordered the Hummus plate which came on a charcuterie board (first time I have seen it presented that way). All fresh and local Ingredients and tasty.. the tea and Mimosa were also very refreshing.
Melissa Breese
Such a unique bookstore! It’s truly a gorgeous building!
Aurelio Morales
Place is good, the atmosphere is also good. Perfect place to read a book and have a glass of wine with some food. The downside is service, we may have bad luck but our waitress could not get right our order 4 times and was only a party of 4. Hope they can improve that
Hannah Hein
Dog friendly and great atmosphere! Great book selection with reasonable prices. Coffee, treats, live music... This place has it all for a fun afternoon in Asheville!

Part book store, part cafe, this place oozes charm. Known for their champagne flight and charcuterie boards, you can spend hours browsing the books. The live music was just the cherry on top. Highly recommend if you're in Asheville.
Kristy Burns
The hostess was a little unfriendly but everything after that was tops. It was a fun experience. I would suggest the champagne flight
Cem Saydam
We always stop here for a glass of wine or prosecco, relax, and listen to music. Very good beverage choices plus lately they have more food options. We enjoyed a bottle of rose prosecco and tasty trout dip and pimento cheese snack with warm bread and crackers. Wonderful staff as well.
Hannah
This place is adorable and the drinks are very affordable. You can sit and read or take cute pictures for Instagram. I can't recommend this champagne bar/book store enough.
Benjamin Berfield
Our server Goose was incredible and most definitely made our evening. Also, the s'mores not being called s'morsels is a massive missed opportunity.
Elizabeth Thornburgh
I love this concept. It is different from most places. Who doesn't love a champagne bar? The only downside was our server. The first one was amazing but we were moved and given a different server. She was rude.
JoAnn Clayton
Unique store and " restaurant/bar".. who can't resist sitting in a store that looks like a library stuffed with books and artwork while sipping a glass of wine or " bubbly" while nibbling on a charcuterie board delicious items or a selection from their other food selections.. indoors seating sidewalk cafe style... friendly staff.. a bookworm haven!
Emily Hemendinger
Amazing experience across the board. Donna really crushed it with our reservation for my sister’s bachelorette! We had an amazing outdoor spot reserved for us that was right in front of the band and allowed a lot of great people watching. They let me have some people, who couldn’t make the festivities, order stuff for the table ahead of time. Emily and Donna really were welcoming and created such a night to remember for myself, my sister, and our crew. Food was delicious and the champagne flowed! Definitely will have to visit this place again!
Anna Otis
Cute place! Enjoyed looking at the books. They even had a cafe and a place to eat too.
Vanessa Ahn
Charcuterie board is perfect for two and Don Quixote sangria cocktail was a just right blend of sweet, alcohol, and fizz! The inside bookstore doesn’t let you bring in food but once you’re in, it felt like you were walking through a mini labyrinth~
Sheridan B
Dogs aren’t allowed inside but they still showed lots of love for my pup! Food was ok (Mal-cheese Falcon), drink was better (signature sangria). Mostly I loved how attentive and kind they were to my dog. He was shivering a bit because it was cold out and he was wet from an impromptu swim, so they brought him a blanket which really helped calm him down. Thank you! I’ll have to come without him next time so I can check out the inside!

Alright, my reviews are generally good because I'm not a hard person to please I guess, but this place deserves more than five stars. My girlfriend and I didn't order anything other than four different sparkling cocktails, but they were immaculate. The tasty cocktails, coupled with the live music and the odd air of comfort from being in a cozy book club really put the icing on the proverbial cake. You'd be lucky to get in and experience this establishment. I'd be hard pressed to say you would not completely enjoy your experience.
Amanda zucca
I love coming here but the staff is always super rude when trying to get a table. Maybe be more friendly even if you're exclusive with a limited amount of tables??
Stefanie Ruiz
Beautiful library with a great selection of books to browse. The hostess (older lady in charge of the bar area) was very unfriendly, hence the missing stars. My husband and I were inquiring about seating to read and drink. We were first told that if we wanted to spend "hours" reading we should sit in the Arcade and not the bookstore, since their seating was for limited time only (??). Then we were accused of carrying our own books into the store and we had to clarify that the books in our hands were from the bookstore itself. The hostess was the only minus in the whole experience though!
Jenny Murphy
Love Love Love this place! I always make a point to stop there when I am in Asheville. Their staff are knowledgeable, also, about their good wine selection! It's a bookstore heaven in addition! Well really it's a bookstore with an awesome little wine and dinner section 😃🥂 …
Sonja Rosario
Came in on a Thursday around 1pm and ordered a mimosa flight and a meat and cheese board. Beautiful place, wonderful service, drinks and food were great. The only critique I had, was that the nutella stuffed cookie was rock hard. This is a must visit in Asheville.
Cherokee Padgett
Very great idea for a business. When I went in I thought I could just enjoy some wine and book browse. However, it's treated like two separate businesses. I also couldn't just sit down with a book because the tables and chairs were all reserved and required hostess seating. I was a little disappointed. I know I'll need to make a reservation next time.
Jonathan Henley
I used to really love this place. Sipping on a glass of wine while browsing a library of books for a great read was a very unique and enjoyable experience. But you’re not allowed to do that anymore, so it’s basically a small bar OR a bookstore, not both. Oh well.
Alex M
Every time I’m in Asheville, I look forward to visiting this place. It’s coziest and classiest coffee shop around—you never want to leave! Filled with books, history, and music, what could be better?
Cori P
Absolutely love this quaint gem in the heart of Ashville. I love the concept and atmosphere of this very unique bookstore and champagne bar. It's a great venue to enjoy a quiet drink and chartreuse while listening to jazz musicians.
Caleb Nobles
It's hard to believe a place like this exists. You can buy/read books, have some cafe treats, drink champagne, and even bring your dog inside!!! 🐕 …
Justin Bremer
It was busy today and we had already eaten so we just cruised the books. I found my fiance a 15 volume (circa 1882 ) set of books from Hawthorne. I got me a pic book with pics from the 30's with a lot of info on my hometown. I will definitely go back for the Charcuterie and atmosphere.
Spencer Kennedy
One of a kind. Super cool even if your not the reading type. If your looking for loud music and a club go somewhere else. If your after a good time to chill and have a drink in a clam environment with good friends, check this place out for sure!!
Wesley Causey
I use to love this place so much. I bought and sold so many books here. Spent many nights drinking champagne and enjoying friends but it appears it now caters to the tourist drinks. Sadly I was turned away for having a laptop. Gotta leave room for all the tourists to drink but no room for a local to relax have a beverage and work a little. The entire vibe of this place has changed for the worse. Sadly that seems to be par for the course for a lot of downtown. Asheville just isn't for Ashevilleians anymore. I'd give it less stars if not for the good memories but I won't be back to support them anymore.
Eunice Hoefling
Very cool place. Laid back ambiance. Wonderful choices of actual champagne. Excellent variety of books upon books!
Carolyn J.
Book Store AND Champagne Bar, what more could you ask for? Their cocktails and charcuterie selections are all literary themed, and if you aren't into champagne, they have a wide selection of wines and beers. The service was incredible and super fast, even though they were incredibly busy. Make sure to check out the bookstore while you're there, it's beautiful! Definitely hope to be back on my next visit to Asheville.
Curtis McDaniel (Curtimack)
You were not open when we visited but enjoyed the comfy chairs and air conditioning inside the Grove Arcade
Rachel Glibbery
Love this place! You could spend hours wandering looking at books. Great cocktails, too!
M I
What a great concept! We loved the set-up inside. So many shelves of books interspersed with cozy tables and couches to eat/drink at. The sparkling wine cocktails we had were delicious and the books we found were a great price.
Warren Miller
Attended for a private event. Amazing selection of books and food was wonderful.
E Colon
Great place to enjoy a drink, some food and the company of books. Chic multi cultural ambiance with delicious food, great deserts.. Try the chocolate pie! and go looking at their selection of wonderful and usually hard to find books.. The service was also great! Go and enjoy them. I will be back on my next vacation to Asheville!
Rich Stiener
The wine selection was amazing and the charcuterie was fantastic. We also really liked the ambiance and it's great for a date. My wife is gluten free and they had a good selection for her. I also bought a used book that I'm reading right now.
Daymian Snowden
It's a lovely place! Drinks are on the expensive side, but understandably so. The books are fun! Overall, a great atmosphere.
Christine D. Page
This is absolutely one of my favorite places in Asheville! Enjoy champagne, wine or tea accompanied by a delicious charcuterie board. Sit outside and listen to music or cozy up with a book inside. Battery Park Book Exchange is a great meeting place with excellent service.
Lena Antoniou
I brought back home some excellent books, while had perfect time drinking good sampagne
annnmarie braccia
Lovely place to stop off, relax and enjoy a drink during the day. There are plenty of good nooks to sit. Great low key music.
Diana Linden
If you're a book lover this is a must see! And the outdoors is dog friendly!
Roger Drought
Best place to meet friends for coffee, champers, wine etc.
Ruben Canlas Jr.
Old books, coffee, wine in a historic building in Asheville. What more can you ask for?
Dillon Wayne
Beautiful with great books, live music, and delicious cheese. Only complaint is that the space itself feels too crowded; shelves of books are arranged around a ramp which bottlenecks patrons and leads to a chorus of "excuse me"s and apologies. Would definitely recommend stopping in for the warm atmosphere.
Kyle Roth
Book collection was nice, but I felt restricted to browsing as much as I would've liked. Many of their seating locations were right in front of bookcases. I would advise to go here only if you plan to be seated and enjoy their wine and charcuterie.
Dean Petty
It's definitely an interesting store to visit. The book selection is pretty thin, but the atmosphere is great. If your looking for something specific your kind of out of luck, but if you want to grab a glass of wine and wander randomly, this isn't a bad place to do it. Definitely be careful with your wine while going around those blind corners!
James Gander
It's a pretty interesting place. Cool atmosphere. Mostly wine and champagne though. My wife and I wanted to sit with some coffee and enjoy the atmosphere but they only have basic drip coffee, and to be honest it wasn't very good coffee. Very neat looking at all the old books though.
Victoria LaRock
Perfect place to grab a personal french press or a flute of bubbly. Relaxing atmosphere. Always has available indoor seating in the AM or early afternoon. (I have not been in the evening.) Outdoor seating is nice and plentiful. Sidewalk market right outside on the weekends. Dog friendly too! Nice to sip some champagne, sit with a good book, and hang with some puppies.
Kerry Pitt-Hart
This is definitely one of the best bookstores I've ever been to in my life. Champagne cocktails outside under the outdoor heater were great.
Lilian Hu Nguyen
A must visit little gem in Asheville. We came for lunch and had the yummiest sandwiches and salads and charcuterie alongside our pups. The establishment is truly dog friendly. Immediately upon seating, water and biscuits for the pups are provided. The menu is absolutely adorable taking plays on names of literature/books. The food is displayed well and tasted great. Drinks are good as well. The check comes in a Dr. Seuss book. All the little touches made the experience great. Only wish we could have sat inside to see all the great books on the shelves. It's truly a library of books available.
zumo flad
I recently stopped in to treat myself to a celebratory glass of champagne, and ended up with an incredibly rich experience! The upper-level labyrinth of books is full of mystery and charm. Thank you Mr. da Vinci!
Katie Dimmick
A fantastic place on it's own for wine, coffee and book lovers with the added (and for us, necessary) bonus of being dog friendly. On a cold and rainy day we assumed we may have to post up on the patio but were instead warmly welcomed inside with a handful of treats! Great wine and bubbles selection, cozy setting and an eclectic book collection. We'll be back!
Nevernauts Music
Excellent bookstore and bar. Excellent drinks, try Death in the Afternoon. Clean facilities, friendly staff, live jazz occasionally. Decent book selection, pretty high class. I really enjoy the way the bookstore is set up. You have to follow this maze-like path from one end to the other, Super fun.
Elias Kleinbock
The restaurant/cafe aspect is a bit grating, but the selection of books is incredible and some of the prices for old or first edition books are amazing.
rachel
The atmosphere is eclectic, warm, cozy and vintage- such a wonderful book collection. Customer service was amazing and the Secret Garden drink is delicious! One of my new favorite spots in Asheville.
Ewa G
Battery Park Book Exchange is always a destination on my visits to Asheville...today was no exception. Enjoyed a delicious lunch and two of the hot tea selections...excellent customer service, very attentive staff and it was a pleasure to meet the lovely owner. Incredible selection of books! Highly recommend!!
Nicole Garabaya
My husband and I were in Asheville for a week for our wedding and we absolutely fell in love with this place. We ended up coming 3 of our 7 days in Asheville. This place is so charming, unique, and the drinks and charcuterie board are incredible. They were even so thoughtful as to give us a little bottle of champagne and chocolates to celebrate our wedding! The best part is I found a limited edition hardback of my favorite book, signed by the illustrator - perfect edition for our speakeasy room in our home. Highly recommended!
jom jim
Great music and large selection of books. Lovely atmosphere but do not expect to be blown away by the quality of book selection. They do however have a locked area of books worth in the hundreds. Every book is for sale. Snacks and food is offered but did not get the chance to try it. Considerably pricey
Mike Bifulco
My goodness, what a gem! Live music, great selection of books, and beer/wine/champagne!
Kristin K
My new favorite place! Unfortunately, I do not live in Asheville and will not be able to frequent this establishment as much as I would like. We were visiting from Tampa, FL and searching for local spots to check out. This is a dog lovers, book lovers, wine lovers dream spot. A relaxed, quiet, yet fun environment. Comfortable seating, excellent selection of wines and cheese boards (other snacks available as well) and friendly, educated staff.
Tara Allen 51
Unique ambiance, great Champagne flights, & excellent small bites. Must see in Ashville.
Ana Valle
My idea of heaven! We had 2 different champagne flights which were so yummy! The cheese plates were a beautiful presentation and tasty. Such a gem!
Erica D'Eramo
This iconic spot has successfully adapted its operations in the times of coronavirus. Comfortable outdoor seating with water refills and cool towels on a hot day. We didn’t get food but the menu looked great and we loved the creativity and thoughtfulness behind it.
Greg Bem
Champaign cocktail consumed amidst stacks of books. Um, yes?!
C
Amazing! Amazing food, amazing drinks. Came here for breakfast this morning for the first time and was blown away! I’d come here before for the books and wine but never to really eat more than a small cheese board. This place keeps just surprising me at every turn. So calm and relaxing. Definitely my favorite place in Asheville!!!
Sally Marshall
I just love this place! Sensational ambiance, extraordinary waitstaff, I go there at least 3-4 times a month and sometimes more. I always meet interesting people there. Great for just a drink with your girlfriend or a perfect way to end a date. James plays the guitar on many weekends and he is outstanding. They welcome doggies and there is something about the place that just puts doggies in a Zen like attitude. Never a fight or harsh barks are exchanged! Great wine, excellent coffee's and snacks too! See you there!
Samantha Velazquez
The most atmospheric bookstore you will ever go to! This is the perfect place to feel like a true bibliophile. The champagne bar and wine section is set off to the side where you can sit and enjoy conversation. Or you can take your drink and peruse the books. On some nights they also have live music to set the tone for a wonderful night out.
Cynthia Curley
👌Awesome staff. Great atmosphere. Fun to browse. Great music. I could spend all day there! …
Cameron Roblewsky
This place is amazing! The books and champagne were fabulous and when my boyfriend accidentally spilt his own drink, the owner brought out another without us even asking. Everyone will treat you wonderfully and you will want to come back time and time again.
R K
This book store is a gem. We've lost so many of these marvelous places to online sales. Enjoy this bookstore. Have some cheese crackers and champagne. Browse the eclectic and wonderful books. Enjoy it while it lasts.
Samantha McCormick
Unique but such a great idea! Cozy, inviting setting surrounded by books; throw wine in on top of it and you have got me hooked! This place has it all and is even pet friendly which seems to fit right in with Asheville's charms. There were several groups having meetings in various locations throughout the store. I tried some local NC wines along with some cheese and a pastry. It was all great & in such a beautiful, historic building!
Ayana Dusenberry
One of my favorite places to go in Asheville. Besides getting lost in all of the amazing books, sitting outside with a glass of wine and people watching is just divine. Love seeing all the dogs welcome on the patio too. Lovely sweets and charcuterie plates, trout dips and cheeses. Staff is always so friendly and so knowledgeable.
Craig Kibbe
Always a lovely time here. Wine, beer, food platters and lot of books! Service was well done and seating is diverse and comfortable. They had live music as well, but we were meeting friends for a catch up and sat in the second tier. Really great time!
Siraj Florida
I love this place! I have been frequenting it often since I discovered it. It has a lovely atmosphere and extremely courteous staff. An excellent selection of wine, a wonderful coffee bar, very well priced books, and everyone that I've met here has been a joy to speak with. Great place to study, work, relax, socialize, or all of the above.
Mike Downes
Fantastic selection of wine, and the sommeliers will expertly guide you to a perfect selection for you. Good music. Comfortable seating and atmosphere. There are hundreds of used books to read as you relax. You can bring your books and trade them in. I turned my Bible into wine! It was a miracle! ;-)
Jeffrey DeCristofaro
I have been here at various meetings, at one point actually doing behind-the-scenes stills for a photoshoot here with professional equipment. This is a very fancy, upscale, quiet spot in the Grove Arcade where you can escape most of the noise, recline comfortably in a chair, eat and drink, enjoy the scenery and read a book, whether alone or with a group. Two levels of used books and a cafe with good wine/champagne selections, great for reading clubs to use. And I love the curtained canopy they have on the first floor!
Barbara Gargano
Love this book shop! One of our favorite places while visiting from Florida on Christmas break. Super friendly staff and fun atmosphere! . Loved that they were so pet friendly. Visited it a couple of times while there and have recommended a must see to friends who are traveling there.
Eric Yopp
What an awesome place to visit and hang out. If you enjoy books, Champaign, and or coffee this place is definitely worth a visit.
Maria Collins Reinsel
Loved everything! Outdoor seating, delicious charcuterie board, Great Gatsby champagne cocktails , fun wait staff, and awesome live music! It was a perfect post-covid afternoon!
Jess Wein
Love this places. Great spot to take visiting friends. Their cheese plates...wow. cool atmosphere and book shop.
Don't wanna miss this multilevel hogwarts vibe place
Janelle R.
This is such a quaint place offering much more than books. They have a great selection of wine and coffee. Their outside patio is very nice even on a chilly afternoon. Tracey from the Asheville Visitor's Center strongly recommended it!
Catherine Everhart
It has some lounge couches on the sidewalk, where local artists were selling goods, the crossiant with jam was yummy, and the bill came in one of my favorite books...Dr Seuss!!! Great relaxing time
Susan Lester
What a cool place! Besides being absolutely beautiful, there's something for everyone. From regional to collectible books, the selection is carefully curated to include an interesting selection of books. Add to that a Champagne bar and a dessert bar, and you'll find yourself in nerd-vana! Friendly service and helpful staff.
Brittany Leydon
This is a great book store if you're looking to add to a collection or find a rare piece. They have many classics in special edition prints and autographed copies of many books. They serve champagne in the bar and pastries. It's a nice place to chill. The staff knows a lot about the books in house. They were helpful in answering the questions I had about some of the books behind glass. Will visit everytime!
Aaron Root
Great experience, champagne and mimosa flights were amazing. Beauty and The Meats charcuterie board was delicious too. Checkout pic for how the check was given, awesome.
matt Bryarly
Fun little wine and book cafe. They have an excellent selection of wine! But their book selection is a little small. They have lots of older books (like 50+ years and older) and many first editions, but not a very broad collection. Their biggest selection is the Art section
D
This is a lovely place to meet with friends and enjoy a wine or coffee with a cheese plate or a chocolate. The staff are kind and courteous and very helpful when it comes to picking out a wine. Dogs are allowed.
My complaints are this: they took away the wifi and made a 'feet on the floor' rule as well as signs everywhere saying not to read the books without buying. Seems a bit silly and feels like I'm being micromanaged as a customer. It's a bookstore. I'm going to flip through a few books. More chances I'll buy one.
Overall though, still a nice place.
Yeshanth Jayakumar
Very interesting decor. Great setting where in you can grab a coffee or a beer or a wine or a book to read Or all of the above :) I have done it all and wasn't disappointed. They have reasonable selection of coffee/lattes and wines. They do fall short when it comes to the local beer choices. They don't have more than 4.
I have been here twice and in both the occasions I have found this place to be busy. From food tour meetups to group discussions, this place has seen it all. Closely racked bookshelves, antique furnitures, secluded corners for quiet readers. Multiple levels for accommodate more.
They do sell some truffles from French Broad Chocolate Lounge. I found their service to be just right. They do encourage bringing in your dogs. The owner's dog walks around and I haven't seen it cause any trouble.
Bottomline: Interesting decor and good hot/cold beverage selections
Shyama Appareddy
Such a cool spot to work, socialize and drink in Asheville. Three stories full of marble top tables and comfy leather chairs, with the walls lined with bookcases. Great wine list, and the sparking wine cocktails are pretty tasty. Baked goods are OK. The live music is typically wonderful and is the perfect finishing touch for the charming ambience at battery park!
Jennifer H
I want to like this place so much. I love the idea of it. However, I agree with others about how all the signs warning people not to read books without paying for them and not to sit down are really off-putting. I love the jazz band on Friday nights, but when I went recently, I had a bad experience. I am not really a drinker, but I didn't want to enjoy the music without purchasing something, so I was looking over the wine menu. A man ahead of me at the bar asked if they would do a half-glass for him, and the bartender agreed to do it. I thought this was great, since I can't drink much but the idea of wine sounded nice. I asked if she would do a half glass for me as well. She was quite surly with me, but said she would (without smiling or any friendliness at all). I told her the wine that I wanted, and she proceeded to pour me a full glass and ring it up, full price. I'm still irritated at this treatment. Is it because I'm female and not some flirty guy? Because I have a low threshold and didn't want to waste perfectly good wine? I don't know if I will go back.
Jon Blake
Great place to find any kind of book. They have a bar inside that has all kinds of varieties of wines and a small selection of beer if you are more of a beer kind of person. They also have non alcoholic beverages if you aren't in a drinking mood and just want to find a good book. Definitely a good place to spend an hour or two.
Eric Fine
Excellent champagne cocktails in a unique setting!
Jeff Potts
Bourgie wine bars are normally not on my list of places to be. But, this one happens to have an impressive collection of used books, with some hidden gems. Wall-to-wall book shelves, reminiscent of some estate library archive, wind their way throughout both levels. There are lots of cozy nooks, and plush furniture, tucked within this giant maze of books, inviting customers to lounge, at their leisure.
However, there are signs, all over, discouraging customers from reading any books, until they've been purchased. And, despite paying for my books, no sooner had I settled down to lose myself in my book, I was promptly asked to vacate their precious lounge, unless I intended on purchasing drinks.
Talk about a total buzz kill. Imagine, just lifting off, for a exciting hot air balloon ride, barely off the ground, only to have the smiling ground crew shoot holes in your big beautiful balloon, yank you from the basket before it even touches back down, and promptly send you on your way.
So, yeah, 4 stars...it would have been 3, if it wasn't for their loverly bar tender, Jillian, with whom I chatted, as I was leaving.
To be fair, the governor, and his entourage, were in the store at the time. Though I had no jacket, I wasn't dressed shabbily. I imagine, there were a thousand different worries besides me. Nevertheless, I treasure most the businesses that treasure their locals. I likely would have bought a beverage, if I was invited to stay with that suggestion.
C Ryan
Absolutely loved this place! Books, bubbles and it's dog friendly. The inside is magical, and reminscent of a French café hang out. Champagne list is extensive, great selection of charcuterie boards. Enjoyed live music while sitting outside on their cushy outdoor space.
Michael Frederic
This is a very unique spot. 💎✨ If your in the area, make sure to stop by here and brows the books and drink some nice wine 🍷. …
Sonya Coffey
Really fun book store. Very roomy.
Julia Kelley
Such a neat place! While they have a decent selection of books, it's certainly limited. The food and vibe make it for it though!
Chris Goodrich
What a unique and wonderful place! There are more books than you can comprehend in this place, great small plates/snacks, fancy drinks, and live music! This is definitely an Asheville must -- with a great laid back lounge vibe to it!
Angela Tattrie
This was like visiting a small library you might find in Hogwarts. It was full of lots of older used books with little sitting nooks (where you can have proper tea brought to you or champagne or a croissant, etc) and beautiful eclectic decor.
Aaron Curtis
If you want to feel like la creme de Bohemian Intelligencia from the 1930s, this is the place! Well curated books are everywhere; the coffee, wines and service have always been high quality. The food choices are limited, but well done. Get lost in a maze of books and wine with a friend in this beautiful Art Deco building.
Garrison McDavid
After a Brazilian fashion photography friend with whom I was making a movie based on local author Thomas Wolfe's journals, You Can Never Go Home Again chose to die, I sought in this bookstore for my Virgo birthday. I loved the coffee and the in time spaces. I bought a couple of books by sane author and managed not to cry. The owner, his right hand lady, and Michelle serve great espresso, hand the NY Times, and serve others champagne, etc, even on Sundays. If God would only send them that Look Homeward Angel if they ever needed it, my prayers would be answered. May a universal and loving God fire up sales, tips and the flowers. Y'all rock
Kyle Brady
One of the most unique tasting rooms I've been to. Full book store with a large inviting champagne and wine list. I tried some different wines as my fiancé tried the different champagne creations.
Loved our bartenders. Gave us advice on local places to eat and were up for great conversation. Next time we are in Asheville, this will be one of our first places we visit!
michael heredia
What a fun place! The service was excellent, the wine was fantastic, and can you have a better ambiance than sitting inside a book store while you sip?? We had a cheese plate that did not disappoint and the quality of the fromage was excellent. Will definitely be back- absolutely loved it!!
Conor Makepeace
I make a point to go here every time I make it to Asheville. No only are they dog friendly and have great coffee, but the curated selection of used books is truly one of a kind. I love that they subdivide book categories to make it easy for you to find exactly what you're looking for.
alex
Wonderful book store bar. My friends had their wedding here and it was definitely a very unique venue
Lillian Pederson
I have been to this place many times and this is the first time that I had food. We had food and drinks and it was wonderful. The food was tasty the drinks were delicious and the ambience was fantastic I highly recommend it
Travis Mulcahy
Beautiful bookstore in downtown Asheville. Most indoor seating is not permitted at this time due to COVID restrictions.
Joanna Bass
A great place to go and drink some wine/ prosecco, casually nosh on a charcuterie platter, read a book, and mingle with nice people and their dogs. The staff is very welcoming of your furry friends. The books are endless!
Joshua Smith
Love this book store. Old school layout with an eclectic selection of rare, new, and used books at a low cost. You can also walk around with a coffee or a glass of wine/champagne to add to the experience.
Sidney Schussler
If you are a book person this is a must! Great selection of books and a wonderful atmosphere. I could spend the entire day browsing while enjoying some food and drinks.
Rob Easter
Cool place. The bookstore was really interesting.
Rebecca Dunham
The variety of books and the unique design of the rooms/sitting areas is fantastic. It's also fun that they have a champagne bar. Definitely achieving the Asheville motto of 'Stay Weird' in the best ways possible.
Michael Williams
The kind of bookstore one would hope to find in Heaven. Cruising the shelves is a treasure hunt. The staff member we talked to knew something specific or in general about every title we brought to his attention. He even expressed regret he didn't have more works by the niche author I purchased.
Dawn Keown
This is a book lovers paradise. Great selection of affordable used books. Wine, chocolate, or coffee all availabkw Ample, comfortable seating.Gentle strains of classical music playing. Such helpful staff. One more reason to visit downtown Asheville.
Ian R
Lovely selection of all sorts of books, yet kept organized and clean. Tables and chairs are conveniently located all over the place. Can order alcohol, which basically makes this one of the best bookstores ever.
RJ B
It was such a pleasure stumbling upon this gem! The drinks are really expensive and there is a serious lack of space. I had the Great Gatsby and it was delicious! Once we found a seat, the ambiance was perfect.
Mayra Navarro
Cool atmosphere if you love old books. Due to the less than polite nature of the hostess, we didn’t stay for drinks
Alex Schwartz
This book store is out of this world. The books are well organized into a labyrinthine of discovery and learning. The concept of having a champaign bar in a book store is brilliant. Many rare and old books find their home here. The seating and interior design is ornate and very nicely done. In general, this book store is over the top with details.
W.R. Vinovskis
Wonderful atmosphere to sit and sip a champagne cocktail. The live music on a Saturday afternoon was an unexpected bonus. The place was pretty full, so the service was just a little slow. Great place to sit and relax.
William Bitterman
It’s hard to rate this one objectively because I’m sure it’s a completely awesome place. It’s just not my taste at all. Tiny little corridors of books as a fat person is just stressful af.
Kind servers and a unique environment with a good vibe. It’s crazy busy and the servers are weaving in and out of people and miles of bookshelf. That stresses me out yo.
Laura Robinson
Sat outside under the awning which was perfect, even in the light drizzle of rain. Had the Tale of Two Choices charcuterie with a soft cheese and salami. Beautiful presentation and plenty to share.
Rebecca N King Hawkinson
Great place for books and friends with indoor and outdoor seating, a little bit like a European bar. Bar is charming, with a warm coziness surrounded by stodgy books, ranging in age from very old collectors items to new, quirky, and serious books.
Darrin Rumph
This was a fun and quirky discovery on my recent trip to Asheville. It was an adventure to explore all the nooks and crannies. They have a very diverse and extensive book collection. Also, from what I witnessed you can order a coffee and/or drink from 2 differet stations. Definitely recommend this place!
Ashley Denchfield
This is a great place to go as a student who wants to study, until you get hungry! Pretty pricey menu, a single cheese bread platter is nine dollars with olive oil on the side for an extra five dollars! Nice environment just don’t come if you’re hungry and don’t want to spend much
Jessica Long
Such a unique shop. We loved walking around inside exploring all of the books they offer. The coffee and service were great too. Also they have champagne if you are able to partake :)
Mike R
It’s a champagne bar, a bookstore, and a live music venue! What more can you ask for!?! So if you actually know your champagnes, wow. What a find. They offer several nice champagnes by the glass (!) so you can have a very enjoyable, albeit expensive, experience. Grab a glass of taittinger and relax. Awesome find.
Kurt Beyer
This place is the real deal. Want to get wasted? Want to buy and read books? Why not both?
They had some really tasty champagne cocktails, and I was impressed by the size of their book selection as well. Premium af, 10/10. Would drink and read again.
Kelsey Small
Sitting out on the patio with a refreshing drink, people watching and listening to some nice live tunes. Lovely way to spend some time.
Robert Oren Eades
Great ambiance. Good books. Good coffee. Inviting, welcoming space.
Heather Renee
As someone who was traveling alone and wanted a place to relax and read Battery Park was exactly what I was looking for. As if so many seating options and being surrounded by hundreds of books wasn't enough... the coffee and wine selection was an extra treat. I spent hours here
Joe England
It's an impossibly picturesque antiquarian book shop with thousands of books, Victorian library chairs and oriental carpets. They not only serve coffee, but there's a champagne bar as well. If that's not enough, they're dog-friendly.
Pat Miller
This is such a cool place. Books line the walls of this 3 story building. Its like being in a really eccentric old library with all sorts of nooks and crannies with places to sit and read except you can buy the books. There is a bar where you can order a glass of wine.
Alex Baker
My favorite space! Great wine and a labyrinth of books, what more could you want. Really bummed they don't have wifi because it was the best place in town to work. Way better than a coffee shop (but they have good coffee too!)
Rachel Holmberg
Such a great bookstore! Just exploring and finding that one treasure is my favorite part!
Trista Salvucci
If your looking at reviews to think about going.... stop reading and just go. You won't regret it. They set the book shelves up like a maze and their mocha is so warm and hearty it warm the coldest soul... oh and its dog friendly!
Julia Trantham Heckert
Battery Park Book Exchange has it all - an extensive menu of champagne/prosecco, wine, and beautiful cocktails, tons of books that wind throughout the different levels, tasty small bites and desserts, and a nice outdoor sitting area. I love going there to browse their book selections and treat myself to a glass of bubbly!
Marie Hendrix
A delightful collection of books to please any taste. The food and wine are wonderful whether you are with a group of friends or curled up in a nook enjoying your new book.
Kristi Sanborn Miller
Wow I love the feel of this place! I would hang out here all day, which is probably why my decaf, drip coffee was $3.50. I got free refills for 2 hours, but the internet only lasted 1 hour. It's SO cozy,. But feels like they don't want you there for more than an hour based on signage.
Phil Moy
I love this place. If you're a bibliophile and coffee shop lover, this is the place for you. I discovered this place 4 years ago when i visited and i lived in the Carolinas. Im in town for a wedding and this is one of the places in my to do list. I'm glad i stopped by again. I will visit again. Thanks Battery Park Book Exchange!
Nathan Rosewarne
An establishment overflowing with ambiance and great music in the evening. One of the few places we found downtown with a strong cozy vibe. The only thing keeping my wife and I from staying through the afternoon and into the night was the lack of expresso coffee.
Deborah Natale
The best bookstore in Asheville. On a Sunday they have several different musicians entertaining us while we had our coffee and little treats this place is so cozy, warm, and friendly people. A must-see when in Asheville.
David Laurence
One of my favorite places in Asheville to spend a few hours with friends. It's an exceptional atmosphere and all the staff members are very nice. Stop in for a cup of coffee or take a seat for awhile for a glass of wine. This is one of my Top 10 recommended places in Asheville.
Christopher Bell
Cheers! Fun spot, left with four great books!
Jenna ingram
Loved visiting this place. Such a unique experience. They have done a good job setting up giving the covid restrictions that are in place. The charcuterie board was absolutely delicious. And the drinks were tasty.
Kyle Thomas
Great place to chill in downtown Asheville. Good coffee made even better spiked with hazelnut liquor. Picked up some beyond reasonably priced books on WWI and a couple other topics.
Kelly A. Calhoun
This place is the closest thing I have found to my liking, around the Southern US anyway, that has the feel of a proper "internet cafe," like the ones you can find in Europe with that "quaint" vibe. The coffee and cocktails here are lovely. The picture is of a drink that I ordered that had a hibiscus flower in champagne. Lovely! I believe they even let you order wine to go. I come here to work on my laptop or to have cozy get-togethers with friends in the area. It's totally the opposite of the hustle and bustle of a Starbucks and their book collection is superb. Def one of my go-to hangout spots in Asheville.
Gabby C
Kitchy, cozy, hip and inviting; somehow it manages to marry a cafe vibe with the religious reverence a book lover feels when stepping inside a library. Great food and drink, awesome selection. Came for a book signing, but I'll be back just to while away an afternoon.
jumpshot13
Great place for conversation with a delicious cappuccino and a biscotti sitting in a nook while listening to the occasional jazz duo featured at the entrance during evening hours. Great Place! I am a concierge and I send all our guests there when I have the opportunity.
Michelle Vergona
Just visiting and wandering around Asheville and I came upon this lovely store! I bought a book and had an amazing glass of Cabernet while I read! The selection is lovely and the staff were friendly.. I was questioned about my purchases when I asked for the WiFi password, but understand it’s a business and was more than happy to show my receipt. I think I’ll go back today in search of a specific book!
Angela M Stone
One of my favorite places to send tourist. I do wish the steps still went up one side and down the other. It loses a tad of its magic blocked off. But still a neat store.
Bjork
Best bookstore ever!!! So unique, so many interesting nooks to enjoy. I always find a few great book purchases. Tea, wine, tasty dishes. Employees always pleasant.
Brittany Przybyl
Love the live music, the books, the Halloween decorations, and the drink selection. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The perfect bookstore for Asheville with something for everyone (unless you hate books).
Dmitry Rashkeev
Always a cozy place to get a drink and read. Great book selection to buy from if you didn't bring your own. Central location is fantastic to combine with other Asheville activities!
Asheville Bruce Hensley
#grateful
One of my customers we were doing a moving job for recently highly recommended the Champagne Bar downtown on one of my YouTube videos I definitely I'm going to share everything on Twitter and send all my friends and family we are so grateful you are part of the community
Chris Neumann
Cool unique experience. Great selection of books!
Lauren Balle
Used to be cooler. I returned for the second time today and noticed all of the signs telling you that books are for purchasing, not just sitting to read. Many of the tables and seats in nooks had reservation signs on them. They seem to be discouraging people from hanging out. Maybe they had a problem with the homeless population? Anyways, I walked in and out. Has a lot of potential.
Adam Breakey
Nice cozy atmosphere, friendly service and very reasonable prices. Get the trout dip!
parker
this review is just for the bookstore. my husband brought me here cus last time he came a few years ago he was impressed, but this time the selection of books was really underwhelming and poorly organized in some spots.
Dennis DiPalma
Love this place. Great service, yummy food and good drinks. Unique atmosphere, comfortable outside seating
Jana Tomita
I had a glass of rose and the waitress advised about their Moby Dip and it was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was nice along with great music... I recommend this place 💯%. Thank you for making my vacation even better:)) …
kaledev
Always an interesting place to visit. The book selection is 90% non fiction, which is a bit strange. It's pretty obscure stuff.
Richard Hamrick
A used Bookstore and Champagne Bar. You can spend a lazy morning with coffee and pastry reading the local papers or browsing the books for sale. You can even spend and afternoon ejoying your favorite libation along with a selection of Charcuterie or Cheese board. Comfortable and Kozy seating throughout reminds you of being in a historic stately home library. However, the 3 piece suite is not a replica of one at Sandringham House ;-)
Chris Nuland
One of my favorite places. Books and Booze, with great service.
linsposts
Great atmosphere and very good selection of books. The deserts smelled amazing. Didn't end up buying anything, but I would definitely recommend!
angie haynes
Quaint with unique selection of wine. Truffles were amazing. Pleasant staff. A must stop if in Asheville.
Bill Kanawyer
Atypical pairing of books, live music, and a good bar makes for an interesting evening. There are many good seating areas where erudite discussions can often be heard even if occasionally overwhelmed by adjacent bacchanalian revels.
Allison Sicoli
What a great idea for a book store! Loved the small plates and the champagne selection was outstanding. Sitting outside was comfortable and fun. The book store itself is elegant and stately.
Maddie Mirassou
Great atmospheres and a cozy place to study. My $9 ham and brie sandwich contained 2 slices deli ham and 1 thin sliced of brie. Literally nothing else on it. I'll come here again to study, but not for food.
Michael Frederking
This is a cool place to visit. I loved the way it was set up!
Brittany Weiler
When walking in, I was very impressed. Very original atmosphere.
On the other hand, signs on every table saying you can't have a seat unless you purchase the book first? Or a feet on the floor rule?? For me, this completely ruins the experience and the relaxed vibe. Everything suddenly became "un-cool". I have never seen that in my life.
This is my first time visiting Asheville. I have been told numerous times that Asheville is known for being a relaxed, chill place. By this experience, along with others, I'm starting to believe Asheville LOVES rules. Relax.
AG HA
Great place to grab a book and a drink. Live music played here in the evenings, inside or outside. Otherwise, they tend to play great classics or jazz in the store. Very chill. Friendly staff!
Daxx-Terry Green
As a certified, card carrying wino, I can't say enough good things about Battery Park. The owner is a fantastic guy. Well behaved dogs are welcome too. Highly recommended.
Steve Hart
This is why Asheville is known as the Paris of the South.
Nina Shand
My favorite place to read or pass the time. Every time I have been in to the store / wine bar, the employees have gone above and beyond to make my experience a pleasant one. Love, love, love this place. One of Asheville's Must-See locations.
Jeremy Brock
Very cool place! Great atmosphere for drinks with friends and all the books you can imagine! What could be better???
Harry Moon
Great environment! Got there too late to order food.
Brian Yulfo
This place was absolutely perfect! Quaint and cute as all get out! Very comfortable environment and staff were super friendly and attentive.
Jenna Ray
Whenever I find myself in Asheville, I also stop by here. I love wandering the multiple floors of the shop browsing all of the interesting things, from first editions to crazy art. There are tons of sitting areas for groups, so you could meet up with some friends and grab a glass of wine. There are also cozier corners to just curl up by yourself. They also host special events!
Kasia D
Very unusuall book store offering a good selection of wines and hors d'oeuvres on the site. You can seat down, enjoy a good book and a drink of your choice at the same time. Intriguing business idea. 👍 …
Milo Norlin
Friendly staff and good coffee, but an awful study spot. There was maybe one outlet in the whole place that doesn't have a bunch of lamps plugged in and you need a different code every hour to use wifi. Don't choose this spot if you're trying to do work.
Sara Stahlman
It's a beautiful ornate bookstore with alcohol and yummy desserts. We love bringing friends here and relaxing at one of the tables wow wee sip champagne or beer.
Sonia Dziubek
Lovely book store even lovelier champagne, courtesy of Goose😜 …
Grant Wallace
Cool spot. Closes early though. Would give 5 star but givin 4 to keep ya humble.
Anthony Ricotta
Always love the curated selection and atmosphere, great wine/champagne selection as well.
Meaghan Crandell
I absolutely LOVED this place. It's a great place to sit and chat, look at books, and have a few drinks. I didn't' try any of the food but everything looked delicious.
John Merritt
A multilevel building housing a labyrinthian maze of floor to ceiling shelves filled with eclectic treasures from around the world and a few hundred years ago. A bookworm's fantasy...go in the morning, buy a coffee and lose yourself. The atmosphere is great!
Chase Esteves
Great staff, amazing atmosphere, inviting, homey enchanting and comfortable. I'd come back again and again.
Brian Johnson
One of my favorite reasons to go to Asheville is to visit this amazing store of historic books, good french wine and chocolate, and Parisian atmosphere. Its a great asset to the town.
Steven Hall
The coolest bookstore I've been to, it's like a big maze but full of books. Many places to sit and hang out too. My only compliant is the lack of fantasy and sci fi books.
Jon Jorgensen
Is it possible to other than love this place? So many cool books! Not a ton of new prints, but that's completely as it should be!
Jeanne Robertson
Employees extremely friendly and helpful. Good products
Tessa Moxley
Loved the environment and being able to browse books with a glass of champagne in one hand. Very neat layout and lots of reading nooks. Not all that impressed with the selection.
Austin Coolidge
This place is amazing! Coffee, champagne, and books. It's like walking into a dream. They have a large collection of first edition and author signed books. High value and well displayed.
Fred M
Friendly staff with a great atmosphere. An interesting collection of books and great selection of wines. A great place to have a book club meeting, catch up with friends or relax on your own.
A D
They used to have an impressive champagne offering but now it's lacking. Awesome atmosphere though and makes you feel like Ron Burgundy sitting on their fine leatherbound couches.
Daisy Cabo
Very cool bookstore with excellent selection of books and tasty food.
Jeff Rackley
A very close friend plays music there every weekend. Wonderful spot, and an amazing book selection
Nicole Burt
Really cool place, not just a book store! So much more! Great atmosphere, we just had coffee and looked around. The coffee was awesome
Dave P
Great little street side wine and charcuterie board. Food was delicious. We didn't make it inside to the book store due to the Covid Hoax..
Charles North
Loved it. Had some bubbly cocktails and enjoyed some soulful music. Bought a few books as well. Definitely going back again.
Courtney Smith
Atmosphere 5 stars all the way ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, coffee/pastry selection 2 stars (when I came they had no cupcakes, the cinnamon danish (?) I wanted ended up being stale so the barista said she didn’t want to sell it to me (thank you! 💖) and they don’t have lattes just coffee. I was hoping to come here and buy a book to read while sipping a latte and snacking on a sweet treat, but was disappointed. I was also bummed they didn’t have a bigger metaphysical section since I was looking for astrology books. The prices of the books are ok for used and being downtown in such a beautiful part of the Grove Arcade, but I found too much lacking to rate this visit more than 3 stars 😕.
Justa Teacher
Great atmosphere, wine selection and service, very well thought place. Conducive to conversation. Roughly an hour after opening though, the bathroom needed some care.
Wellie 10
I love coming here to enjoy dessert and browse through the large selection of books. It's such a relaxing place, and the little sitting areas interspersed throughout are so unique and fun.
Candace Greer
This quaint location is ideal for catching some good music, perusing the books, and sipping champagne. Feel free to get lost among the winding bookshelves and explore every nook and cranny of this eclectic locale.
Sean Bickford
My favorite place to study and read in Asheville. Great staff, decent coffee, unbeatable atmosphere. Lots of tourists, but they leave you alone. No wifi.
Joan Davis
I really enjoyed this place!! They have a bar inside with wine several floors of reduced priced second hand books. They also have jazz bands on main floor.
D Roberts
We love browsing for books here, with a glass of champagne in hand. Such a unique book shop and truly one of a kind.
David Feldner
Such a cool place. The best pimiento cheese sandwich I've ever had. A must when visiting Asheville!
Rachael L
My absolutely favorite place in Asheville! Bring your dog and sip champagne while you listen to jazz and people watch. You can't visit Asheville without coming here.
Anish Sana
Nice place to visit but feels a little elitist and unwelcome. Lots of books to buy from. The place has a nice older days ambience to it. They also serve coffee and food.
Geoff Mitchell
Amazing environment and eclectic book selection. Great coffee and drink selection. Old building is like Harry Potter combined with steam punk.
Azalea Screams
An absolutely beautiful location, but it felt a little bit like I wasn't supposed to touch anything. A bit out of my price range.
Channing Marshall
Such a fun experience! The book selection is amazing and the drinks are great too. You've got to see this place.
Jas R
Great cocktails. Fantastic charcuterie boards. The ambience is amazing. Most definitely an experience.
C. John Mason
The owner is a gentleman and quite friendly. The collection of used books is best in the area. And the food coffee and tea are outstanding.
Michael
Cute book store with a great atmosphere and wide selection. Having a glass of wine among the numerous shelves is a real treat.
shelbie lindsay
Love this place. Drinks were wonderful, great book selection and super friendly staff.
Lauren Gates
A must-go in Asheville. Usually our first stop on the way into town. Endless spirals of books, great coffee (or champagne!) and dogs are welcome. What heaven must be like for sure.
Hans Hammond
Excellent live music. The wine was tasty and the service was nice. Didn't try the food but we will when we come back.
Tessa Weisenborn
With two stories and multiple rooms, book lovers can find a Shangri-La here! Some volumes, kept securely behind glass, are from the 1800s and even further back. Explore the cornucopia of writings or sit and sip and peruse the pages of your favorite title in this delightful spot.
Lustforchanel
The store was very cool and I loved looking at the books but it felt stiff and unwelcome especially with all the don’t read unless you buy it signs... the food was pricey but good
Nathan Holdaway
A must visit for any book lover. This bookstore has live music, wine, champagne and light eats to ensure a wonderful evening.
murfman
Great place and characteristic of Asheville's great flavor where people, wine and food tours, desserts, flavored teas and scones, dog lovers, and don't forget the books, all come together at the Grove Arcade. Say, thank you, Stanley, for giving him a dog treat and a place to rest his old bones.
Carol Talbot
Love this store! Wide variety of books. Comfortable seating to sit and read. Wine and great snacks for reasonable prices.
Savannah Hilley
This place was so unique! I was visiting North Carolina on vacation when we stopped by this cute bookstore. I'll definitely be visiting again next time.
Paul McDonald
Amazing place super nice staff. Could spend hours here. Highly recommend.
Brooke Davis
A (not so hidden) gem of Asheville. Desserts, books, and champagne. The vibe is laid back but vibrant. An excellent place to spend an afternoon to unplug.
Beth
Don't totally love the warnings about buying before reading... but do totally loved the place in general. Who DOESN'T love drinking prosecco while being surrounded by books and dogs?
Rachel C
Great atmosphere, I got the champagne samples it was well worth it. Dane was our server he was awesome.
M S
One place in Asheville I always visit.
Colleen Salter Bett
Such a cozy place to relax and enjoy the great books, food, and drinks. Highly recommended!
Holly R
Extremely lovely shop with a great variety of choices. I could spend both hours and dollars here. And the champagne choices are varied with a wonderful selection.
Kevin Gath
One of my favorite stores; I go often to get lost in the maze of books and sit in the big leather furniture. Food and coffee is a little overpriced, but the atmosphere is well worth it.
Suja
Great ambiance, service, food and book selection. We really enjoyed a brief stop here while sightseeing. Highly recommended!
Martin Snow
Nice store, but place has a strong air of rudeness right down to the sign saying books are sale not reading. Unnecessary. Just tell staff to move extended readers along. Too bad.
Mara Busuttil
So intimate and complex. Great place to grab a glass of wine or great coffee and read and buy amazing books. Great prices and an amazing selection!
R2bchic
It’s a vibe! Great places for drinks with friends. Love that it’s a bookstore
Patrick Spears
Different for me being a country boy, but enjoyed the atmosphere. Waitress wasn't attentive as I want but still cool place
Kristin English
Always my favorite stop while in Asheville. Love to get a coffee, ginger molasses cookie & a book. You can also get great adult beverages.
Hallie Ford
Huge wine selection and a cozy atmosphere. We were confused on how the service worked and it took a long time to order, so I'm only giving four stars
Bobby Bush
Loved the venue! Listened to a small 3 person group with an upright bass. It was AWESOME!! The staff was awesome and it was packed! :)
Kristen Ross
One of a kind bookstore. You are able to go inside and look for books but due to covid there's no b sitting inside without reservations. Extremely crowded.
Jacob Pawelczyk
Very neat place! Enjoy a glass of champagne or wine or a cup of tea in this amazing collection of books.
Maria Mullen
Interesting place. Eclectic art and furniture. Some food, game and drink options. Grab a glass of champagne and a book. We loved hanging out there for a while on a rainy day

Eric Hall
Great staff. Fun environment

Really neat spot - went during Covid times and we sat outside and ate and drank. I bet this place is 10x better outside of covid when you can chill inside as well.
Erin M
Loved this place, it felt warm and classy & priced good! Allows dogs and that's a double bonus! I'm so glad I went and I'm definitely going back!!
Leanna Robbins
Great champagne, cheese board, and nap spot.

They are a funky local bookstore with history. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Jackson Benefield
Excellent setting, so many nooks and crannies to relax and have a warm beverage, glass of wine or beer while browsing their vast selection of books.
Parker Robbins
Nice stop for the afternoon. Pleasant drinks and staff, unique quirky atmosphere, but do to covid there was a wait and very limited seating.
Samuel Hensley
Truly a singular place - used books, coffee, wine, chocolate, charcuterie, and live jazz.
Also: it's dog friendly.
Jacob Virgil
The coffee, drinks, decorum, and book selection make for a great relaxing stop when exploring Asheville. Plus, it is dog friendly.
Suzanne Sindledecker
What is not to love about a book store with coffe, wine and chocolate along with nooks for reading that book I just found (and bought)? Great concept with lots of interesting books to choose from.
Amy Kugali McWilliams
What a fabulous place! Find a vintage book, drink a glass of champagne (or coffee), cozy up in one of the multiple seating arrangements
Neeraj Agarwal
Awesome place. The food is good, should definitely try the desserts
J Holton
One of our favorite spots to eat and read. For what it offers in books the prices are very reasonable.
