Nice place to relax and explore. Find that book which speaks to you to come closer, or even a friend. Cafe area with lots of seating, welcoming environment, wide array of subjects. There's even a manga section. Largest collection of magazine's I've ever seen. There are books always on sale here. Always enjoy coming here. They're also I believe the only book store in town other than title wave used books in midtown. Highly recommended.

Wonderful place to relax and unwind after a long day a work. I can spend hours here and never get bored. Endless amounts of interesting books, magazines,music, and topics for every age, children thru adults. I guarantee everyone will find something they like. And they got a Starbucks!

I love book stores, my frustration with this location is the layout. There are so many aisles that dead end. Instead of being able to wander around from aisle to aisle the row ends and backtracking is required. While this is understandable for directing customers to checkout, it is annoying when trying to browse.

Really nice store, huge magazine selection. They even have alot of games and educational toys and science experiment sets. Lots of Harry Potter stuff and other contemporary items. Make sure if your looking for a book tell the associate the authors name! Thats the order they use. I gave the woman the title and nothing showed on the computer. But the Author got a hit and the book was there!

is a nice Barnes and Noble. I find the way the bookshelves are laid out to be confusing and make it hard to find what I was looking for. I like straight row, not the weird layout they have. Still has all the things you expect from a Barnes and Noble. :)

While ordering online or via an eBook app is extremely convenient, it is nice to spend time thumbing through pages and browsing selections you might not have thought to type into your search engine. I love any bookstore, big or small, and I am never disappointed when I visit Barnes and Noble in midtown. Like many other B&N locations, they have extensive music, children’s, travel and periodicals sections. They also have a cafe and gift/card area as well. It is a great place to bring the kids or to escape when you have some free time. It is also a good place to meet people. Today I had a nice chat with Chuck, a frequent customer and lover of all things muscle car and The Rolling Stones. Having thousands of books in the vicinity gives an easy jumping point to start a conversation with pretty much anyone.

The largest bookstore in Anchorage, it's one of a limited number of choices. Their focus is primarily on newer releases. If you want a wider selection and don't mind used books Title Wave Books just down the street.

I love the large variety of items they provide. Obviously books but also so much more. I am always able to get good assistance when I am unsure of a book or where to find it. I was able to pick a few books out that seemed good for me along with some I plan on gifting. I was really excited for an unexpected find of a game. Clue: Master Detective which is like the original but it has more people, weapons and rooms.

Love love love finding a corner amd sitting for hours in this store. They carry so muh more than just books. They have games, candy, toys, cds, records, pens, & so much more. I dont see alot of sales but they always have a sale section to check out. They staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I love that they have a starbucks too.... what more could u ask for? Love the children’s section and the gifts/stationary available here. The staff is lovely and always willing to help. They have children’s Alaska books if you’re looking for a local book gift. I have the membership and enjoy a bit of a discount with each purchase. The parking lots seems a little scary if you go at night or in the dark, but I’ve honestly never been bothered by or approached for money by anyone.

If you have a membership you get a discount so that’s cool, nice clearance section and there is a good manga selection. I got a signed book for cheap from there. Though the bookmarks they have there are a little overpriced.

Store is clean and good selection staff is helpful. Always has been, they keep things changing and interesting in fact I’ve never had a bad staff or book experience. However the homeless problem in the area is getting worse and if you unfortunately have to use the bathroom at this store prepare to find a homeless dude in bathroom shooting up, barfing or washing himself in the sink. 1 stall door missing like it’s a 1978 truck stop is nice. Hold it if you have to use the bathroom

Barnes & Noble is the only national chain bookstore in Alaska. This location is small compared to many locations in the lower 48, but it is the best you will find for browsing new books in Anchorage. To browse used books try Title Wave Books.

Barnes and Noble is one of Alaska's few book stores and unfortunately it's a chain. Now something completely unrelated to the actual review is that the original cover art for the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is being phased out in lieu of the promotional covers for Amazon's unfortunate tv adaptation. A plus for the review, however, is that when I ranted about this to a poor man stocking the romance section he seemed amused and unbothered by my grievances. 4 stars for the shoulder to cry on

Lots of parents with children of all ages talking excitedly about their choices. It's a brick and morter book store, what's not to love, you can find almost anything you want and if not they can order it for you. They are a little more expensive than Amazon but I would rather pay more here than order from Amazon, been burned too many times from online orders.

Although it felt a little weird going into the coffee shop to pick up my order, I was glad that the store was still open. There are books I am interested in but refuse to buy until I see them myself to make sure I am not wasting money. The books are well-organized and it's easy to find the titles I'm searching for. They have good security. The atmosphere is cozy. The store is clean, even their restrooms are nicer than in most public places. Check out is quick. Employees are helpful. They're easy to find, and they have good parking.

Decent selection of books, but nothing special. The staff is usually helpful, but sometimes cannot be found easily. My one compliant is that they reorganized their book sections, and certain areas are difficult to find and are organized weird. Some sections are straight up disorganized, which is frustrating. Overall, I think it's a good place to buy books, but wish it was a bit easier to find what you're looking for. Maybe even a section map would be helpful.

I really enjoy this Barnes and Noble. When we first moved here we didn't know the area but we like books so we looked for a bookstore and found B&N. This place had so many family events that made living in a new place better for us to get adjusted. We even got to meet one of our favorite authors. The staff there has always been nice and helpful.

Very helpful staff! My wife and I were looking for a higher end scrabble board and this was the only one we could find in Anchorage. I only went here one time but the friendliness and helpfulness of the one employee was amazing. I wish all customer service people were as good as her. I’d definitely go back again to relax and drink some coffee, or to look for a good book.

Employees are awesome. Helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and effecient. My membership has MORE than paid for itself, and I love the food in the cafe as much as the bookstore itself. They have an excellent selection of merchandise that appeals to customers of all ages (and if they don't have it in stock - they can usually order it for you), the aisles are easy to navigate and items are easy to locate thanks to an abundance of visible signage (and, failing that, their amazingly helpful staff). I HIGHLY recommend this store.

Always an enjoyable location to browse and shop. There is an enormous inventory of books, magazines, toys and other related items. The new store layout provides wide spacing in aisles. We always get a coffee, tea or treat while in the Starbucks cafe located within the store, as well.

The books are expensive but the store is excellent. The employees are friendly and helpful with finding things and getting recommendations. They have a great selection and also sell things like board games and some art supplies. They are open until 11 pm which is excellent since I work late. They have soup at the cafe that is delicious! If they have Creamy Spinach and Artichoke soup that day, I always get it.

Lots of people in the store because its a popular place to be! It's also a good place to go for books on special and marked down. Always has a large variety of marked down books in the front of the store. You can get coffee in the store to the Right side and having other snacks, pastries, chocolates, pies, cakes and sandwiches is nice for lunch. And the food is always good. The help desk is great. They will help you with finding in stock items and all so ordering items and contacting you when it arrives for pickup. There are events, groups, meetings, musicians, and more sometimes they are seasonal. A big section just for the youngest readers with a play area. I think they have a story time scheduled monthly. There is a gift section with some toys, games, puzzles, coffee cups, and electronics. I can and have spent hours here.

We only go here occasionally. Our latest visit was to look for wood building book information/Purchase. First off, I was happy and impressed they had a very sharply dressed security guard at the front door. She was sharp, friendly and aware of what was going on. We asked a staff member where the wood working area was, he walked us right to it. As my husband looked I went to the sitting area to wait. I noticed staff were around in case of need but not bothersome. Everyone was friendly including other customers..... Highly recommend. Side note. Anchorage is going though a hard time with crime. I haven't seen or heard of any problems at B&N but having the security guard there helped me relax.

4.5 of 5 Great selection, good prices on oar with Amazon. Employees are friendly and the place is overall quiet. The Harry Potter memorabilia section is massive and they have an okay selection of vinyls. My only problem was the lack of seating, as my back cannot take me walking for long periods.

Store was clean and the employees were very helpful and friendly. The book organization was a little wonky though. The book I was looking for was Science Fiction/Fantasy, but in that section the books were broken into different subgenres under that umbrella, but there was no indication of the switch. So if you're looking for something make sure to check the entire section for the authors name.

I love this store and wish I could afford to go more often. The wide selection of a little bit of everything and the fact that I can get hold of any book that I'd still in print is wonderful. I recently found that I can buy the entire collection of Tolkien's work in pocket book size for $50. I definitely know what I want to buy next time I am there.

The books at Barnes & Noble are high quality and affordable. It’s clear to say the interior is a bit dull but I think that’s apart of the whole Barnes & Noble vibe. I won’t highly suggest the cafe due to other less-expensive coffee/tea chains being a bit more superior. Although these are only my opinions, I will continue to visit Barnes & Noble regularly.

If you've been to any Barnes & Noble elsewhere, you'll know what to expect. They are all pretty much the same. If this is your 1st time you'll find a nice large bookstore with a Starbucks coffee shop inside. You are welcome to read while having your coffee & there is free wifi. There is also plenty of parking.

It's so jam packed that someone literally backed into another vehicle simply because there is no room for them to back out of their spot.. you can barely fit a car down a row so maybe clean it up so we can see where to park.. and some truck just nearly hit me while writing this review trying to fit his giant truck in this tiny spot next to me so... thanks!

I went in for information on my Nook (electronic book) & learned to my great surprise that it's a 2011 model! (It was just given to me last Christmas, 2020!) I was having trouble getting it to connect to our Wifi; B&N worked on it for several minutes, then brought it back to me with the corporate number written on a stickie note. B&N stands behind its products & does all they can to resolve problems. Their book supply is endless!

I love this place, you never know what cool things you will find there. Its great for gift shopping, taking the kids out, or meeting a friend for coffee. If you go in for a specific itemand you can not find it the staff will help you search or order it online, they will even send online orders to your home if you do not want to go back to the store to pick it up. I like this bookstore, but they removed the soft seat options that were placed throughout the store, which makes it less comfortable to sit and flip through a book. Their Starbucks coffee shop is very popular, but I think it should be updated to give it a warmer and cozier feeling.

The Barnes and noble bookstore is the Mecca of great reading material and great books in the Anchorage Alaska area. I have been a member of B&N for a number of years now. If I am having a problem finding a book the employee's are always willing to help even if they are restocking. When the other big bookstore was in town the only time I could get help with out feeling that I was putting someone out was while my best friend was an employee. On top of that the store itself was overcrowded. There is a much better layout at the local B&N. Also even though there is a reading area when I purchase a book I don't have to worry about the books I purchase for myself and my family appearing to be used.

This is a small Barnes & Noble (in L48 comparisons), but is THE ONLY real bookstore option in Anchorage. The staff here is always helpful and pleasant. I've never sampled from the cafe, but it's a favorite among other customers. There is a fair amount of seating at tables to inspect books and more, before making a purchase decision.

In store specials 30% - 50% on many closeout Buy 2 get 3rd book free tables, affordable classics, and now a Kids Club card for Free! items.....puzzles..books..candles..etc. make great gifts. Oh yeah 1000 piece puzzles at this discount make gift giving affordable. If you like music and movies the staff is knowledgeable and I have purchased CDs based on their recommendations. If an item is not on stock they can order it for pickup at store or delivery to your home. My Barnes and Noble membership gives me a discount on everything I buy i(Nook tablets not included) including food and beverage. Book Fairs support local school activities like music. It is not unusual to hear live music during these events.

Staff is usually friendly, but they often are overwhelmed or out of place so it can be hard to get attention. The selection is large, but this can make it difficult to find particular things. The record section is good and the criterion collection is an important plus that makes this a valuable shopping spot. Their magazine selection is a huge highlight for me, as it is super robust; probably the most robust in town. Anchorage has a pretty limited bookstore selection, so this is the de facto go to for new stuff. If you're looking for popular books or old material, you're probably better off checking out Title Wave (for however much longer they stick around).

A great place to find books that you dont want to wait for through Amazon. Barnes has a pretty good return policy, where if your not happy with your book purchase you can return it within the time frame and get a full refund.

This is by far my all time favorite place to shop or to just wander around when I am bored. I always end up stumbling across something of interest when I go. HANDICAP parking runs the full length of the front of the building and the sidewalk is well maintained for the clients. Be sure to stop by the cafeteria to grab a nice treat or a coffee. If you are a b&n member then you get substantial discounts in the cafeteria. I say cafeteria but I really mean Starbucks as they are on-site for the Barnes and nobles clients. BEWARE -- it is almost like going shopping without a list. You will buy too much if ya don't stay focused on what ya came for. Like the hobbit in LOTR. The longer he wore the ring the more he would lose himself. You will lose track of time and get fussed at by your significant other if ya don't bring em a treat. In the lower 48 I had started avoiding Barnes & Noble once the technical book section got smaller and smaller every year. I went in here looking for Christmas gift ideas, stumbled upon the technical/IT section which left me pleasantly surprised. While here I picked up the local Northern Lights discount/coupon book which is worth it even if just visiting for a few weeks.

The starbucks caffe here has Ok coffee, great desserts and a spinach quiche that you can write home about. There is limited seated outside the coffee area unlike you typical Barnes and Noble. This location offers free WiFi, family activities, story the for young readers and cool events during book launches. It's a great place to get lost in a good book.

This is a terrific Big Box book store for folks who like only new, current books and music. It has all the bells and whistles, Starbucks share the location, B&N carry all the latest associated paraphanalia, ie journals, games, calendars, craft kits, laptop trays, so many things! Lacks the quiet intimacy of an old-era, creaky bookstore, one can find in a larger city. Definitely a different flavor than local Spenard used and new Tidal Wave Bookstore.
