Reviews of Velo Bike Shop

Such a wonderful little bicycle shop in the heart of Seattle. I bought a Bianchi street bike here last year, and the reps were wonderful about talking through my preferred use of it, comfort level, price, and various aspects of more modern, high-quality bicycles. I'm no cyclist, and likely not their typical client, but it was a wonderful experience.
Fast forward a bit over a year, and I was having a bit of trouble with the pump I bought, worried that I might have inadvertently punctured the tire. Prior to coming in, I thought I'd call and see what they thought. A very kind gentleman spent about 5 minutes troubleshooting with me before I realized that it was just my own idiocy on technique, and managed to immediately resolve the issue.
High marks for quality, ease of interaction, and customer service.
Side note: these bikes are rather expensive. If you're looking for a beater, you may want to call ahead and ask about inventory price points before visiting.

awesome bike shop willing to help with any issues no matter how big or small! popped in mid-ride because i needed adjustments on my spd SL pedal tension and didnt have the tool on me. Brian and Paul were so kind to help not only that but check out my derailer and look over my bike to make sure everything was ok. Very nice staff, i felt welcome to ask questions and ask for help with my bike. Not to mention, prices super fair!

I recently brought my bike to repair, they did a great job and took care of all components need to be fixed. The price also was reasonable. Their mechanic is also professional. The staff are knowledgeable and they did their best to fix the bike as soon as possible. Very satisfied with their work.

The team at Velo is dialed in! Velo really sets a high bar for their repair service and knowledge of bikes. Their communication is top notch throughout the repair process! What I appreciate most is their consultative approach, they work to solve your problem efficiently and cost effectively. They stand behind their work and will keep you riding smooth. Velo earned my lifetime business!

we rented bikes for two days July7&8 The kids working in Velo were super patient, friendly, helpful, available. I think most bike shop people tend to be chill, but this crew was really were great. Bikes - were good enough!

Brought my bike here for service and was impressed with the quality, speed, and professionalism of the service. Staff texted me with an itemized list of repairs along with the price, and answered the handful of questions I had along the way. Overall very impressed

Overall o.k. experience. I bought a bike there for about a grand, which was the good part! The staff were courteous and helpful. Was told I can bring it in for a free tune up in the next 30 days. I called maybe 5 or 6 days outside of the 30 day window to see if they'd honor it (life gets in the way ya know), and was told I'd be charged for it - this was the bad part.
It just came across as super cheap. I was planning to buy all my accessories and whatnot when I went in for the tune-up, but the sensation of "cheapness" for being a couple of days late was kind of a turnoff, just going to do Amazon instead.

Communication getting to the point of repair could be better, but the end result was great. The technician explained in detail what was going on, the fix, and suggestions to avoid the issue again - while demonstrating why it was an issue. Very helpful.
Would have preferred they check before lubing the chain. I use a wax lube and they added a dry lube, resulting in having to degrease the chain. Takes a bit of effort and time.

Outstanding customer service, fair and honest pricing, and repairs done on time. If I could give them another star I would!
I purchased a bike online from another company and took it to Velo for their safety check. I ended up having some problems with the bike due to defective parts (not purchased through Velo). They stood behind their work and made the repairs no questions asked and no charge for their labor. I couldn’t be happier with their work and professionalism. Next bike I will definitely purchase from them directly.

Really nice people and very reasonable prices. In stock with a lot of common bike gear and bicycles. Great customer service and respect. They even pump your tires for free! Overall 10/10 place to stop by. ☺️

There really isn't any better bike shop around. I had my tires stolen over the weekend and the shop owner was so helpful giving me recommendations. I always get my bikes tuned up here and always will. Their customer service is amazing and prices are affordable for individual needs!

Overall I had a pretty good experience! Staff were friendly and prices are about what I expected. My bike has a brand new lease on life! I definitely got vibes there was a bit of upselling going on, which I get from a business perspective but it puts me on edge for the whole transaction. I just don't make a lot of money and have to be on edge about extra costs and I could tell asking about every cost was annoying my salesperson a bit, but he was polite throughout the whole thing. I'll probably try another shop next time, but this place is definitely not bad.

I have taken my bike here twice for a tune-up. Each time my bike comes back working like new precision machine. I have never had tune-ups this good anywhere else. The mechanics really know what they are doing. Prices are reasonable and both times they worked on my bike same-day without an appointment. They are helpful with product recommendations but not pushy to sell, which makes for a pleasant experience.

Been coming here for two years and felt I needed to update my review. This used to be the only place I took my bike for service and today I visited for the fifth time to get the same bike serviced and was met with the response "we don't tune up Rad bikes". Since I had received a tune up from them within the past 6 months or so on the same bike I asked them what had changed and I got the response that they don't want to be held liable for the safety of the rider. I get that, but why was this OK when I last came to get my bike serviced here? Also, prices that were quoted for the the same services I had received in the past were significantly higher. This seriously used to be the best spot to get my bike worked on and I am sad they no longer want me as a customer. I hope it changes so I can return.
Previous review from 2 years ago:
Brought my bikes here for service on multiple occasions and have always come away satisfied. The mechanics know what they are talking about and are happy to explain things in detail. Prices seemed reasonable and has a good selection of wares.

I have found the mechanics at Velo to be the best or among the best in seattle for both my road bike and for my tandem Santana—-even though they are not a tandem shop. Their attention to detail is good...in fact they are exceptionally meticulous. The have corrected many mistakes I have made on bike or those from other shops around seattle. Also very fast turnaround compared to the mega shops like Greg’s.

Great service and professional staff. I recently bought a road bike from them, lost one of my handle bar buttons while riding, I brought it for a tune up and noticed Velo folks replaced it with another button. Its small things that matter, thank you Velo staff!

I have an electric bike, and a lot of places refuse to work on it even if the work has nothing to do with the electric parts. But these guys had no problem adjusting my brake pads, replacing a broken spoke that had to be a cut to a custom length due to being on the wheel with the motor, and tuning it up so it was running like new again -- and it was ready the same day. The only negative was that they don't bleed hydraulic brakes, which was something I also needed, but they were quite helpful in pointing me to several other places that I might have that done. All in all, the service was very good, everyone I spoke to was friendly and knowledgeable, and their prices were quite reasonable. I would definitely return for any service I needed other than adjusting the fluid in hydraulic brakes.

Best bike shop in downtown Seattle. Been here a few times to tune my bike and the staff has always been very helpful. I've always had a great experience!
Adam Swanson
As reviewers have posted below, the repairs are pretty expensive. But quality work is never cheap. They did a high caliber job quickly and got me back on my commute. Which is what counts in the end. Also, as another poster mentioned: They're electric bicycle friendly. I would return for service.
Nathan Franke
I went here to buy replacement brakes for my ancient bicycle. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable, and assured me that if the brakes didn't fit, I could return them. Prices were average, by which I mean 50% higher than Amazon, but worth it due to the promised return policy.
I don't that I'll go out of my way to shop here, but it's convenient if you're in Belltown.

Velo is hands down my favorite place to go for bike parts, accessories, repairs, and maintenance. I've been going to Velo for all my bike needs for over 8 years, starting back when they were located on Capitol Hill. I commute to and from work by bike, which of course causes a lot of wear and tear; and while I really like riding, I don't love doing all the upkeep and am no expert. At Velo they're always happy to answer my questions and give advice and recommendations, and I have never felt like they try to up-sell me on things I don't want or need, and I've never felt like they talk down to me (unlike some other bike shops I've been to in Seattle that will remain unnamed). Velo's prices are always fair, if not surprisingly low (especially for a basic tune up!), and the service is always fast and friendly. I'll continue to use them for all my future bike needs.
Nate Russell
Very impressed. I visited 4 bike shops last Saturday to replace my current bike (not fitting well) and only Lloyd at Velo suggested tweaking my bike to make it work for me.
Lloyd thoughtfully helped adjust my seat heat, angle, stem, and rework my low end gear. I've ridden this bike from Canada to Mexico and ride it everyday to work and it has never fit me so well. In the ten years of owning this bike, this is the happiest I've been with it.
Thanks Lloyd and Velo!!!

I purchased a new bike elsewhere online and paid for Velo to assemble/tune it up. Incredibly fast turnaround, quality work, decent price, and smiley staff. Will definitely be back for more tune-ups!!
Ned
Good shop - they have always had a super quick turnaround on little work, like looking at a squeak or a creak. Good customer service and they have bars and gels and other snacks, as well as clothing and accessories like bike baskets, seats, gloves, glasses, etc. recommend going here if you’re a new or an experienced cyclist!
Jacob Rhoades
Prices are very reasonable and competitive considering their location and Amazon HQ right across the street. They can't carry everything, so they make sure to curate items across different price points.
And it smells of new bike!

Went in with 3 specific requests, the young guy with glasses was a champ and made 2 of 3 happen. I just moved to Seattle and needed a home base bike shop, this will be IT going forward.
Outstanding service, give that kid a raise please, he went out of his way to make me a return customer.
Also, the low star reviews on here are garbage and should be ignored. They are people who obvi didn’t do their homework before coming in, which is the quickest way to get what you want. These guys have a million things in inventory and don’t have time to explain how everything works nor do they need to explain how capitalism works. If you don’t like retail prices then order it online and stay home, I’d rather support my local shop and pay that little extra to keep the big chains and their trash products away.
Rod Williams
Absolutely love this place, made me feel at home, educated me on the stuff I needed to know, and are very efficient, not to mention really hot guys too!!! Wowser!! Highly recommend if you have any issues with your wheels, they will get you back on the road guaranteed! Great low prices too!

I left my road bike with Velo after my cross country ride and requested they disassemble, box and ship by bike via BikeFlights. I was so impressed by how expertly they packed it and how quickly they shipped it out! When my bike was delivered to me, I noticed that FedEx had really thrown my bike around and that there were several punctures in the box, but I was happily surprised that Velo had protected my bike so well, that there wasn't any damage at all. Would absolutely recommend Velo! Thank you!!!
Kyle Ricco
Had a great experience renting a bike for the day to explore the mountains to sound bike path! Definitely would recommend.
Walter Maisel
Saw them for a rear flat yesterday and discussed rear fender. Obvious today that flat was caused by fender rub but the techs won't even look me in the eye... Same guy. Everyone else had been very nice but the older techs are kinda jerks, they're just don't their job but i need my bike for mine and they're not being very helpful or owning up to missing the obvious problem... If I'm gonna pay again for the same problem I'll give the money to nicer techs that will own their work this time.
Richard Metzger
Shipped my bike to this shop for Triathlon Worlds. Reassembly was done to perfection - shifting was smoother than my home shop has ever done! And price was equal or lower than the other Seattle shops I contacted.
Ross Levin
Super helpful in providing guidance on local rides, even providing free maps. They were helpful in referring us to other shops that had supplies that they were unable to provide. They have a nice selection of bikes, parts and accessories. Great shop, I will be back!
Dominik Hofacker
My favorite place in Seattle to get my bike serviced. It is always a fair price and high-quality service. Highly recommend!
Abe Gertler
The people that work there are just so nice! My girlfriend and I were just coming to the end of our tour across america and they made the end of it so easy, went above and beyond helping us ship the bike back home to boston, without even buying anything.. So supportive of cyclists... Support this bike shop friends!
James H
I gave it 5 stars because, actually, when you compare Velos to the dozen-plus other bike shops there really is no comparison. Tho I'm not a typical hi dollar bike enthusiast with money to burn, these dudes were always just chill with me....and as I burn thru tubes often, their prices ARE considerably cheaper for repairs, etc. And having a couple of youngster cutey ladies working behind the counter (and Valerie KNOWS her bike stuff also!),well, that's a plus of course.
Alejandra Velez
I rented a bike from Velo a few weeks ago. The staff was extremely helpful, patient as I tested out multiple bikes, and very friendly. Definitely would recommend anytime!
Michael Scott
I am extremely new you cycling. Valerie was able to answer all my questions and recommended the bikes that fit me the best. I'll be getting all my future cycling equipment from Velo.
Ivy Akers
I first went to Velo when they were in their Capitol Hill location. Every visit I've had the staff has been friendly and unpretentious, helpful and professional. I am a big fan, and really grateful for their new downtown location.
Daniel Passos
Marley was a great salesman. Worked very well and was very fair at recommending our new bike accessories! Keep up the good work!
Michelle Hook
Bought an Interurban Torker from here for a good price. They were really helpful as I came in several times and tried out several bikes over the course of a week. Very friendly!

I have been to Seattle for a couple of days and wanted to rent a bike. If you dont have mobile internet access (in order to use the several bike sharing possibilities) and/OR are looking for a porper street bike go here! 35 bucks for great bike and service from morning till evening (rental period is not 24 hrs). One star removed since relitavely pricy. Highly recommended if not travelling on lowest budget.
Tadd Morgan
Best bike shop in Seattle! They are thorough and patient, a rare combination in the bike shop scene.
David Warren
One of the best local bike stores around. Lloyd can help you with anything from basic fun riding to racing, mountain, and cross. Also a couple of the best mechanics around.
Laura Creed
Just had a major overhaul on my road bike which had become gunked up over the winter. I got the bike back in like new condition. I can't believe how quiet it is now and how smoothly it shifts. Super nice job!
