Reviews of Echelon Cycles
Mr. Gino is very enthusiastic and helpful. He guided me through my purchase well, and the bike I selected is nice and comfortable. I think echelon offers decent services. However, my bike's rear derailleur hanger broke after I had purchased it for only 22 hours. It's incredibly annoying, and the quality of the hanger is conspicuously poor. I cannot get an immediate fix for the bike in the store, which makes me somewhat awkward. I look forward to seeing my bicycle repaired, and I hope the store and the manufacturer of my bike can be more effective in this case.
Fantastic experience from this shop! Had multiple points of customer service contact with them throughout the week and they were super helpful at every stage.
I couldn’t find any shops that were carrying hard shell travel cases. I called echelon and they were super helpful with locating what they had in stock, and also asking if I’d it to be set aside for me to come for it another day.
Then I came into shop a few days later, super helpful with getting me the case and letting me check it out. Helped figure out if it was what I needed and if it would fit my bike. I believed I was helped by a new employee named Adam, I may be wrong, it was his first day. They trained him excellently though, because he was super knowledgeable about everything in stock and answering any additional questions I had about other parts I was looking for. Chatted with a few other employees casually and they also were super knowledgeable about all things bike, but also just extremely friendly. Really had that community bike shop feel.
Lastly spoke with Curtis, one of the managers, about item pricing and he was super reasonable and respectful as well.
Overall I had such an excellent experience with this shop, I left a happy customer with the hard case I was looking for and a few other items. Their customer service is excellent and their bike knowledge is extensive. Other customers also seemed extremely well attended and had all their questions answered. I definitely recommend this shop!
What a great shop, Chris and Curtis were amazing! I went in today to ask whether my vintage bike could be used with a bike trainer. Chris helped me out and let me know that, in a nutshell, my bike is too old for modern day trainers, but he was super helpful! He explained exactly why it wouldn't work, gave me some options in terms of other things I might be able to try and was overall amazing. Curtis also went above and beyond and got on the phone with a rep from a bike company and found out I could possibly use my bike if I put a little work into with some upgrades. I don't tend to write reviews very often, but both of these guys were super friendly and helpful. I know where to go from now on for any of my bike needs!
Excellent shop with great selection. My size frame was out of stock and they special ordered my bike for a very reasonable shipping price. It arrived and was assembled within a couple of days of ordering. Everyone here has been very helpful, knowledgeable, and patient, I’ll definitely be coming back!
Cannot recommend Echelon Cycles enough. They are a group of incredibly professional, seasoned cycle connoisseurs that provide top tier customer service and an impressive range of products and services. Their store is beautiful, organized, and the team is very efficient and knowledgeable on retail and cycle servicing alike. An extra perk is their awesome Pinarello catalogue and operating knowledge.
A truly highly differentiated bike store and team— the best in Manhattan…..!!!
Thanks Curtis, Chris and team!
This shop is the best in the city! Super helpful and they go the extra mile to get things done! I had a bike build done and Jorge did his magic to get this done, top notch! Daniel helping get all right details and syncing with the manufacturer! Gino, making sure the process got started properly and Curtis and Will with outstanding customer service. If you need a new bike, a build or just service this is a must bike shop!
They packed my bike for shipping. So helpful and efficient. Bike arrived I. Perfect condition. Excellent customer service!
Fenomenal customer service. Trying to find my first road bike, Sonia was amazing and brought me every bike that could fit my needs. They are very knowledgeable. Strongly recommend.
This shop and everyone who works there is great. Super helpful and super friendly. Was able to get a flat fixed and a new saddle within 20 minutes on a Sunday afternoon, and at a great price.
Super wonderful experience renting a bike here!! I highly recommend.
The employees and owners were running like we were all in a race.. no customers were in a rush but they held themselves to that standard!!
I forgot my ID and Card in the store all day and they had it for me,, no problems!!
I also popped my front tire,, I walked in and they switched out the tire in under 3minutes without question!!
Super nice experience here!! Nice people,, everything works out here!!
I paid 40$ a day for a bike I kept for 3 days with a helmet and lock included.
Thank you Echelon Cycles!!
Daniel as well the rest of the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Echelon has a large selection of bikes and gears, so stop by!!
Ended up being an official roadtrip to pick a bicycle and the experience dealing with Curtis was quite a wonderfully amazing experience.
Spoke to Curtis and ordered the bicycle via phone the day before. The bike was all assembled and ready to go when we showed up to pick it up. Hats off to Curtis for making this transaction seamless.
Definitely looking to order my next bicycle through this shop again.
The most professional bike shop I have ever dealt with in my 30 plus years of cycling. Danny and Curtis took so much time helping me with my purchase and fitting my new bike. I drove 400 miles to this shop for my purchase if that tells you something and will do it again. The whole Echelon team is A+ thanks guys Love My Wilier !!!
These guys rock. My bike kept getting flat tires and when I went to the shop telling them this they gave me the equipment to not only replace my flat but completely stop getting flat tires. I went to two other bicycle places and the service was more expensive AND worse
When you walk into the average bike shop nowadays you're greeted with a "why are you bothering" me attitude from someone who is often aggravated you are wasting their time at all. I needed a suspension fork pumped up. One said they couldn't turn on the compressor since it was 30 minutes to closing, another said no since I modified it with a motor, and two others said they did not have a fork pump. Curtis' bike tech pumped it up with the tools that they have because they're a REAL bike shop.
I needed brakes bled & they did it, in a half hour, for a rate 25% less than anyone else in the city. They pointed out other issues and addressed them at no extra cost, and with none of the standard fare hipster holier-than-thou attitude. They're actually happy you're here!
I paid double the asking rate. I suggest you do as well: for a Manhattan business with this level of service, they genuinely are *too* cheap.
Curtis' team is above the fray.
I was very happy with my experience at Echelon Cycles - my closest bike shop didn’t have want I needed so I gave Echelon a call. They had what I wanted, and for a really competitive price.
Super friendly guys, welcoming atmosphere (which isn’t always the case with NY bike shops..). I’ve found my new go to bike shop, for sure!
Echelon has been my favorite cycling store. The friendliness-knowledge of the employees and owner(s) stands out. I have been assisted several times by Adam, he is wonderful, kind and professional...a great addition to the awesome team. There is no better place to have your bicycle serviced or get a new one hands down ! THANK-YOU ADAM, JORGE AND ECHELON.
Had a bike fitting down today with Curtis. Don’t waste your time and $ going anywhere else. They are extremely professional and know what They are doing. I ride the peloton religiously and happened to run into the John Foley while I was there for the fitting. If it’s good enough for John it’s good enough for me !!
The reviews made me wary. Seems one’s experience will depend on the customer service.
Bought a Focus Cayo, my first road bike. Patrick spent quality time with me to teach me the nuances. He was committed to sell me a bike that worked with my budget and experience. Appreciate the time he gave me.
I bought my bike here years ago after seeing it in the window and being smitten.
Mostly now I stop by to refill the air in the tires. However, Echelon has been crucial in keeping it running smoothly via tune-ups, repairs and accessories. My experiences at the store have been nothing but comfortable and honest - never as if they were trying to sell you something you don't need. And the repairs have been quick and flawless.
The staff is friendly, funny and super cool/nice. Can't recommend this place highly enough. They're an essential part of the neighborhood and all-around great business.
Today was the 4th time I’ve come here and the team continues to help me out of tight spots. Definitely well worth the money spent. I’ll admit the staff can be a bit cheeky sometimes, but they’re generally knowledgeable and helpful enough to make up for it. Also, what am I expecting, this is New York, not Nashville 😂
Haven’t needed any major repairs or tune ups yet. If I’m still in downtown NYC when that day comes, I’ll be going to Echelon.
I think this is one of the only bike shops left where the workers actually have a personality. They are fun playful people, and they are also very informative and get work done.
Not a place for the "up-tight" types.
I've gotten service done here. I've bought parts here. I've bought a bike here.
And I will continue to do so.
5 stars.
I walked in for a quick repair for one of my brake levers and the guy behind the counter was super helpful! He even offered to only sell me the one brake lever because I told him I was on a budget. Was in and out in under an hour (just as promised). Would highly recommend to any cyclist.
I've been in here a couple of times: once for repairs, once to get a new helmet. Both times the folks here were very helpful. With the repairs, they were able to immediately assess what needed to be done and give me a timeframe in which the repairs would be completed. They got the work done on time and followed up with me to let me know that my bike was available. And on top of that, their prices are quite reasonable. I'll certainly be coming back here for future cycling needs.
I spoke with the owner via telephone concerning the bike of my interest. Within 24 hours, he called back with all the information I needed. Immediately upon entering the store, a salesmen and both owners assisted with my purchase. Considerable time was taken sizing me with the right cycle, and I was allowed to ride several bicycles before making my final decision to purchase a mountain bike. The service was excellent, appeal was great, and all three salesmen took ample time in explaining the features of my chosen cycle before and after purchasing it. I've been to several high end bike shops throughout the metropolitan area, and believe me, no assumptions were made at Echelon after entering the place of business. Several of my friends intend to buy cycles too! I will highly recommend Echelon before any other shop.
Very efficient , not at all pushy , knowledgeable staff. They are also very patient being that I had my 8 year old and three old daughters running around their shop (sorry about that guys). They assembled my Rad mini folding electric fat bike that I purchased online right out of the box. In under 2 hours the bike was ready to roll with no problems. And you can not like a guy with both a Autobot and a Decepticon tattoo.
Been using this shop for a couple years now and they are great. Whether you are looking for an entry-level bike of any sort or the latest Pinarello with carbon wheels, they have a great selection. They did a custom build for me, which is kinda their specialty. My wife got a stock model Scott that was a great deal and she loves it. They have anything and everything else you need, and great service. If you didn't buy your bike there, they'll be glad to service it for a reasonable rate. They did for me before I got a new bike from them. Can you mail order for less? Of course, but there is a reason for Velominati Rule #58: Support your local bike shop. Without one, you'll be SOL until a self-installing part arrives in the mail. A bike is not a microwave oven. It's personal, needs attention, and if it's not a thing of beauty you need a new bike (and even if it is, you might need a new one anyway).
I’m in the market for a used road bike, they explained that they only sell new bikes but that they were happy to help me avoid any lemons on Craigslist, OfferUp, etc. I’ll definitely be bringing my bike to them for tune ups and if in the market for a new bike will only be shopping at Echelon.
A fellow, and I might add, very experienced ex-bike racer I have known for years, recommended I take my racing bike to this shop because it had a great mechanic and good service. I have a Campagnolo groupo which is quite finicky to get the gears to shift properly and, late model Mavic Carbon Cosmic deep dish wheels that the rear wheel axle needed oiling. I usually have the mechanic in Piermont work on my bike I couldn’t wait so I brought it in. From the minute I walked in the shop I was greeted with a smile and concern for my being there. I explained my problem to the shop’s manager and instantly he knew what my bike needed and personally led me, and my bike, to his mechanic. Again, a welcome smile offered. Not only did the mechanic work on it right away, but he explained why the gears weren’t shifting properly, the derailleur frame hanger was slightly out of alignment. Next, within minutes, he disassembled my rear wheel axle exposing its innards. He cleaned all of its parts before applying a special lubricant, as he knew it required. While waiting, I wandered the shop and never felt pressured to buy anything but seeing how well I was treated, I decided to add one of the shop’s racing jersey and bike shorts to my tab. I cannot recommend a better shop for a top mechanic and great customer service. A big thumbs up.
I'm a bit late to the party with my review of Echelon Cycles. Aside from an unfortunate online order mistake when I placed the order for my Bianchi Oltre XR3, I was pleased with my experience. I've taken extremely good care of my bicycle and it has brought me a long way since July of 2019. If I lived in Manhattan, I'd return more often.
I'm very glad that this shop supports Bianchi and is an authorized dealer. Moreover, they support Wiler and Pinarello to my knowledge. I admire a bike store whose roots are in European bicycles. Chapeau !
Excellent shop, great service and customer care. If you need a new bike or service yours, this is the place.
The best shop. Bought my folding bike there during early COVID. Got a flat today. Stopped in and 25 minutes later on my way!!!!
I love these guys. I live around the corner, and their most competent mechanic very quickly fixes anything that's not working on my bike. I bought a new moderately-priced commuter bike from them, and they patiently went through various Joe Breezer models, and gave me lots of riding time to feel comfortable with just the right one. After trying places with much larger inventory like EMS and REI, I found the perfect pair of women's cycling shoes there.
Yes, it's a small shop that gets very busy on weekends, so I go off peak when they're not frazzled and get great help and service.
Excellent service from start to finish. I called ahead of time to make sure the part I needed was available and within 10 minutes my bike was up and running. The staff member behind the counter was very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks Echelon Cycles.
Happy with my experience here and have been back twice for additional work on my Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter M365. They are fair and happy to explain their repair fees. I dropped by scooter off at 6:45pm on Monday and the front flat tire was fixed by noon the next day.
This is hands down the best cycle shop in NYC. I've been to ~10 while shopping for my bike, in comparison to other shops, you're really getting a bunch of people loving bike loving folks answering your questions. I wish I had bought my bike here rather than another shop on ~7ave/19th this shop is way better than that.
I just took my bike in with a squeaky part to my front casing. they could have charged me $60 to replace, but instead they cleaned it, tightened it and refused to charge me. In the spirit of what is happening in the world today ( April 2020), they just earned a customer for life. please visit them....
My FAVORITE bike shop! Great small shop personal service. I love that they go off the path beaten by Sp@*z#d, Gi@nt and C@#^*dale - Hallelujah! I shopped half a dozen shops before my last bike purchase and found they had the best selection of brands including Scott, Willier and Colnago. Lifetime tuneups with purchase.
Jorge - Best mechanic I know - the only one I trust.
What can I say? I had an amazing experience. The team's knowledge is unbeatable. This year I walked in to buy my first racing bike for CRCA and distance rides. I had done a lot of research and price point all in, bike, shoes, peddles and tax was under $2K. I did not think I could buy anything in the store as I had previously just looked at the Colnagos and Wiliers and dreamed of owning them. Earlier in the day that I bought my bike, I was riding a CAAD 10 and Madonne at another shop but I just wanted something a little different than the Treks and Cannondales that I see everywhere.
I was in the West Vllage later and just walked in and started talking to the guys about how I was in the market but didn't want to see myself coming and going and if there was anything under 2K. They showed me a Focus and a Litespeed m1 with 105, and I took the Litespeed. It is amazing! I love the free tune ups and the setup was pure perfection. I rode the bike home and then put about 100 miles on it over the weekend. It fit like a glove. Lastly,I never once felt pressured in the store and I highly recommend Echelon for their knowledge, quality bikes, professional setup, and great tune ups. I only purchase from this store.
Very fair, great service, communicates well with customers. Some really great bikes in the shop!
A great bike shop whether you're buying a bike, servicing one or just looking around. The staff are all very knowledgeable, and in some cases hard core bikers, so they know their stuff. I would definitely recommend at least checking out what they have to offer.
The guys at echelon are knowledgable and helpful, they carry great bicycles for all uses, I have to say, even my bicycle is not top of the line, I was treated as VIP, and the best part of my experience was the custom fit of the bycicle to ergonomically work with my body for a complete riding experience. I have owned many bicycles and was never fit adequately. Special thanks to Pablo for the shared knowledge.
Whether you're a serious cyclist or not, this place is the best. Fantastic selection of bikes and clothes. Get there on a particular day when a race is going on tv and hangout and chat. Great and friendly staff. Hope my next bike is from there!
Friendly and well-organized shop. Lots of mid-range bikes for getting into road riding. When I was there a delivery guy showed up needed brake repairs, and the owner thoughtfully described all the options & their prices.
I've been there 3 times (for a new brake cable, a new gear shift cable and a quick cable adjustment) and each time they took my bike right away and fixed it on the spot. I highly recommend!
I went to this bike shop with my fixed bike because it was making a weird noise and the worker there told me he had no idea what was wrong with my bike, i let him hold the bike so he can ride it and he still wasnt able to recognize the problem(at least thats what he said). I found it strange that he wasnt able to determine the problem, He should be familiar with fixed bikes, they are much easier to fix than bikes with gears, if he didnt know what the problem was then he is working in the wrong field, dont know his name, if i did i would have posted it, other than that i have no problems with this shop.
P.s he treated me way nicer the next time i went, guess it was because his boss was around
I recently purchased a new bike from Echelon Cycles for a 2-day 200 mile ride. The attentive service and proper fitting was just as important as picking the proper frame. Thanks guys!
- Kurt
Great bike shop. Super friendly staff replaced the rear derailer and straightened the rear wheel in just a few minutes. Bikes for sale and a good selection of accessories (lights/locks/etc) too.
I love the Echelon crew. My neighborhood bike shop - they've saved me when my derailleur hanger broke, fixed a flat, fitted me with a new seat. They're the best.
Great shop with helpful and knowledgeable staff! Welcoming to beginners and well equipped for more experienced cyclists.
The people in this store were GREAT. I needed a bikepost shim for my Sondors EBike. They didn't carry the one that will fit my bike. So they made one that fit perfect! Thank You So Much.
Nice shop in a nice neighborhood. Shop staff knows their products and can readily help a cyclist purchase the right product. Would highly recommend this bike shop.
Timely service, thorough repairs and very reasonable prices. Echelon saved me a lot of money by fixing a bike with rusted disc brakes. A great bike shop with awesome staff.
Top notch, trust worthy community based business. If you are searching for a new bike, or simply in need of a repair/tune-up, Echelon Cycles is the place to go. The crew there are experts in their craft. Purchased a BREEZER, Downtown 8 with an internal hub two years past this May 2016. What a reliable and quiet ride. There has not been a single problem with it. Wife and I recently did our first Spring run on the Putnam Trailway, besides regular rides along the Hudson River Greenway. It was peaceful, relaxing and fun. I'm certain we will enjoy many more years of biking with the BREEZER. Thanks Echelon Cycles...
I came today for help for my chain that got stuck while I was at the park today. I was unable to pedal forward. They were walking distance and they were big help for me. Thank you again for your help!
Echelon was really patient as we tried bikes. Pablo, an owner of the firm, gave really good advice. Nice experience overall sampling the bikes
So you never forget your firsts, and this is the place that helped me accomplish my first successful bicycle ride. I was apprehensive and a bit cranky and everyone there was really amazing. So if you are an adult, who never learned as a child to ride, go here and it'll be a piece of cake!
Daniel was absolutely fantastic. I needed help with my Colnago frame and this shop was a god send! Keep up the great work!
Bought my Fuji absolute 1.7 from them. They were great, configured the bike best to meet my own geometry and I've been very happy with it..
Great bike shop. Me and my daughter come all the way from Brooklyn just to get their service. Curtis is great.
Walked in this morning needing a few spare parts. They found what I needed in a hardware box and I was out. Will definitely be back for any REAL service / repairs on my two bikes.
Mr Gino was extremely helpful, shop has a wide selection of good quality products and Gino guided me through my purchase. Definitely recommended and great service, thank you so much.
I don’t know how some people can complain about the great staff here. We are tourists from Cleveland. We’ve been here four times in four years and they’ve been great. Especially the guy from Argentina, Who I keep saying he is from Brazil.
I just got my Bianchi Venezia yesterday, LOVE! Anna is amazing! Thank you!!! I'll come back in a month to get one of the road bikes, either Pinarello or Colnago. See you Anna!!!
Came in to try out a single-speed. Anna and her co-worker (didn't catch his name) were super welcoming and helpful. Good shopping experience.
I needed air for my bicycle and I checked on Google maps for the nearest bicycle shop. They do have free air here. They even let me borrow a pump and take it outside to fill my tires.
Been going here for years, excellent service every time. They go the extra mile. Highly recommend.
They did what i asked and it was well done, but the staff really isn't friendly, and the prices are quite steep for a simple fix. One nice thing though is that they have a pump freely available outside.
Great mechanics, especially Sasha! Thanks for the great work and just bringing smiles to people’s faces :)
2 years ago I got a tune up of my single speed for $50 and they did a great job in just a few hours. But recently I got a tube changed and it cost me $18!
It's one of the spots that I return to when I need service on my bike done. They give you a wide range of options and tell you upfront of any problems.
I´m from Brazil and went to Echelon Cycles to buy a MTB Scoot. They gave me all the support needed to choose and bring it to my country.
I am a triathlete and i also ride a commuter each day from eny brklyn to 14th and 7th in the city...i sometimes go over to echelon and they do have some high end bikes...yeah i get what you guys say about some of the people there (one guy inparticular-co owner is kinda a jerk) but other owners are pretty cool and most of the employees are good and knowledgeable, their prices seem to be fair but somethings you kind find cheaper and some things are cheaper there...bottom line is their prices are good and they do seem to know a good amounts about bikes, but it's important to do some research yourselves...
over all is a good bike shop but you should shop around with price, but they are one of the more honest shops around where they have a laminated sheet with labor quotes
I like how they offer advice on bike care and riding. I feel like they really do care about helping people become better bike riders
Really tidy concidering the amount of stuff 👍
Great staff too. …
The shop is friendly and serviceable. They have all the brands I like and continue to deliver reliable service. I plan to take all my business there and would recommend it to anyone.
Fast repairs. Competent but not tune-up was imperfect. I get smoother shifting and breaking at my NJ shop
Great bike store. High quality products, great service, good prices, nice people. Worth a trip.
Outstanding! Great repair job. Great service. Best performance bike selection around.
Fix my wheel great price and fast service. Do not smoke in front then you will get yelled at. Will be going back
Were able to put on a new tire on my bike in just a few minutes. Helpful counter staff.
Very knowledgeable. No sales pressure. Great range of brands so you get honest guidance.
My first time in the store I had a great experience got everything I needed. Second time was so so, not sure what to make of the owner.
Really happy with the service here. Rented a very comfortable bike for a very reasonable price. Efficient and friendly
Fantastic, friendly, knowledgable, nice, willing to make things work in your time frame if they can, and....if you buy a bike there they service it for free!!!
Came in for a populo sport. The guys were great. Was very helpful. Great atmosphere. They know what they doing.
Great techs
Great customer service
Great brands and bikes in a great neighborhood right off the west side Hudson trail.
Helpful, friendly knowledgeable. Make recommendations not pushy. Carry high quality products which are professionally curated.
Been here a few times for various needs, always really great friendly and knowledgeable service!
I go out of my way to come here. Always friendly, give good advice and pricing seems fair.
Great customer service. Fantastic sales support. I will continue to be a customer, for sure.
Great price, great staff, great selection and amazing customer service with a staff that is so knowledgeable and professional.
Great service, convenient, professional and friendly.

Awesome guys
Need book off bike
Great service!
Knowledgeable staff.
Great shop and great buying experience. Worked with several employees and the owner while buying a road bike and everyone was knowledgeable, attentive, and helpful, and had the bike that I wanted built up and good to go that same day. They also carry brands that are hard to find elsewhere.
I came here to get my bike repaired. My headset was wobbly because I changed the headset from an OEM one. The mechanic figured out quickly that I needed a spacer which fixed the wobble. The total time was maybe 15 min. The staff was friendly. I had a great experience here.
(Translation) Great store. I got in touch with them by email, they were quick with the answers to my questions, I made the bike reservation and went to pick it up. Great service, lots of cool stuff in store.
