We arrived a little earlier than our scheduled time but the bikes were already outside with our names and ready to go. Online reservations were a breeze. Very helpful staff although the person explaining how to use the bikes could have done a better job. My bike had a throttle and my husbands did not, we figured that out in our own but it wasn’t a big deal. Location is convenient to parking and trail. Trail was fabulous! This was our first time renting e-bikes and they did not disappoint, we had SO much fun! Highly recommend this business.

We had a beautiful day on the Burlington bike route. We rented the E Bikes for 3 hours at 40 $ each which we didn’t think was that expensive. We were able to ride the EBikes all the way to the bike ferry in about an hour 20 minutes so the 3 hour rental worked out perfectly for us. Definitely recommended doing this it was one of our highlights on our Burlington VT vacation.

Had a great experience! This was a highlight of my Burlington experience. The online booking process was easy. When I arrived for my time slot, the bicycles were already out with my name tagged on it. The bicycles themselves were easy to use. This bike rental place sits just along the side of the Island Line trail in downtown Burlington. They have a variety of bikes in a variety of sizes. They have some electric bikes but, as all bikes must be reserved in advance, the electrics must be reserved especially early. The bikes are suitable for travel on gravel as some sections of the trail are just gravel. The bikes were in good condition. The staffs were efficient and friendly. Local Motion also operates the ferry that is required to reach the end of the 13 plus Mile trail. The bike ferry's southern terminus at the north end of the causeway is at about mile 10 on the trail.

The staff here is absolutely wonderful!! Made reservations to rent 2 bikes for my parents and discovered that my own personal bike had a flat tire that morning. The staff didn’t hesitate for a minute and were kind enough to change my bike tire completely free of charge. They also let us take the bikes out a half hour before our reservation. So accommodating and friendly! Also a great location right on the bike path near the waterfront. Highly highly recommend!!

Renting eBikes and taking the path to Lake Champlain was a great way to spend the day. Allocate 2-3 hours time so you can go to the end. You need to reserve bikes online, but they can tell you what is available if you call first.

We rented e-bikes for the first time to ride out on the Burlington RailTrail to the Champlain Islands. Local Motion made the rental process easy. They taught us how to operate the bikes. The bikes were great. We had a lot of fun. In the summer, they even operate a bike ferry so you can cross the gap.

Bikes were nice, staff friendly and helpful, price reasonable. The only bad part was we had to wait more than 15 minutes to check in even though we had reservations, and the only locks available were quite heavy. Also, the online reservation system could be a little smoother -- would be good to search availability for more than one bike at a time and to see prices earlier in the process. Nonetheless, I would definitely go back -- location was super convenient!

Your website needs to be cleaned up as I tried to rent bikes on line and it kept giving me a 4pm pickup time for Saturday 8/20. I tried to make the reservation on Thursday 8/18 and the site would not work with me. Thank goodness for your employee Gabe who was polite, responsive and informative he actually answered the phone, took my number called me back and had no problem finding two bikes for a 4hr rental w/ a 10am pickup time for 8/20. I had the pleasure of meeting Gabe at the end of our ride and he was even more professional/pleasant in person. The bikes operated quite well and my wife and I had a very pleasant ride. One of the best things to do in the Lake Champlain region is to rent a bike at Local Motion for an afternoon for a spin around Burlington, Vermont. Their excellent website makes it so easy to select a bike and the prices are reasonable. In addition to a selection of adult bikes they also have youth bikes and trailer bikes so the whole family can come. The shop is located right on the Burlington waterfront bike path and the friendly staff will fix you up with everything you need. The city itself is very bike friendly and packed with unique shops and restaurants. After grabbing terrific sandwiches at nearby August First, we rode out along the beautiful waterfront park, through a grove of flowering linden trees and on to the spectacular Colchester Causeway, a railway converted to a flat bike trail going right out into beautiful Lake Champlain and ending at Hero Island. You can take a bike ferry from there and explore or turn back and enjoy it all again.

This shop has a convenient location- right next to the trail. We reserved our bikes a few hours before reaching. When we reached, our bikes were ready. They also helped us adjust the seat and helmet properly. The prices are reasonable. Highly recommend.

Great people and excellent customer service! Easy reservation system. Your can tell this is a well run operation, when, as is the case from time to time, things just happen. We had a bike flat in the middle of the remote causeway out by the ferry. I called for an assist and within 25 minutes a technician made it out to us, replaced the tube, and provided extra tire tools and accessories - just in case. The technician was apologetic, and appeared to truly enjoy his job! Thanks again for your help.

Really cool way to experience the causeway, at an affordable price. Staff went out of the way to help me with proper setups. Try going for the full day, so you can explore the farms and also use the bike in downtown area. The ferry guys are awesome.

Bikes were in excellent shape. 6 of us rode from Local Motion to village on South Hero. We should have packed a lunch and turned around at the ferry landing. The additional miles were not worth it.

Local Motion Bike rentals had our bikes tuned and ready to go when we arrived at 9 AM. They gave us a brief instruction on adjustments to the seat and operation. They asked if we knew where we wanted to ride and if we had all the information we needed. We'd wanted electric bikes, but waited to long to reserve. The Burlington Trail out onto the causeway didn't really require electric bikes. Good experience, friendly staff.

Friendly service and easy process to rent bikes! We were visiting Burlington for the long weekend and did a walk in for the bike rental. The folks helping were friendly and patient, gave us our bikes and lock in case we want to explore the bike path and leave our bikes. They also pointed us to the nice online interactive map of the bike path and gave us recommendations on how far most people like to go to. Returning the equipment was a snap too. Highly recommend this outfit for bike rentals! (We learned the process would be even quicker if we reserve the rental ahead online!)

I recently rented 12 bikes from Local Motion. The bikes were comfortable and the staff were helpful. There was a really nice bike trail right outside the shop (mostly flat, paved and shaded) which made it easy for a large group. Overall a great shop with easy access to a very nice trail.

Excellent rental experience. Staff is super nice and bikes were ready as promised and in great condition. Burlington Greenway is nice, relaxing ride. Very pretty. Recommend going to all the way to South Hero Island and taking "bike ferry" at causeway. It's a long ride, but very pretty and fun. Ride is mostly flat with a few small inclines that can be walked by beginners. Trail is very well marked. Definitely recommend booking rentals at Local Motion and doing so online. They do sell out.

Wonderful experience. We made a spontaneous visit to Burlington to escape Boston for the weekend. Good rates, and the knowledgable staff carefully fitted us. The website showed little rental availability, but when I called found out that there were many bikes available, and for much longer time slots that the website had posted, so keep that in mind. We biked the Colchester Bike Trail to Causeway Park and back. This is gorgeous ride. Allow for extra time; wind on our faces on the way back added at least 30 minutes, and we were glad we'd booked an extra hour.

This was a great way to check out Burlington. Local Motion sits right on bike path so easy to access. Staff were friendly and accommodating to my time change. Reasonably priced as well. Highly recommend checking them out.

Very reasonable, great location, and excellent value. We rode to the other end of the causeway and back (including using the ferry). It was such a relaxing ride - flat, wide, not overly crowded (we were there on a Monday morning). The rental bikes were in fantastic shape. They looked like rentals - a scrape here, some fading there, etc - but they were mechanically perfect. I've never ridden such a finely-tuned rental bike. Kudos to the mechanics!

My husband and I visited Burlington in July and after walking the trail were happy to find Local Motion to rent bikes so we could explore the full trail. We didn't make reservations, but had no issue obtaining bikes that fit each of us well. The bikes were well maintained, adjusted for our heights (I'm 5'4" and he's 6'1") and came with bells. The employee who assisted us made sure we knew where we were going. We biked the whole way to the bike ferry and back. The rates were very reasonable and worth it.

Very friendly staff! We rented the tandem bike and they provided expert knowledge to help comfort and ease the mind of an inexperienced rider. Staff was very friendly and quick to help assist in check-in/check-out process. Prices were reasonable. Equipment and Safety was in excellent condition (not damaged, sanitized). The location was easy to find with signs directing to the shop and back to the bike path. Bike path was absolutely breath-taking and not very congested at the time we were riding. Over all experience is 5/5. Would highly recommend!

Great time on the bikes in Burlington. Take a left at Airplane park if you want to get to the causeway. We missed the turn (following the developed bike path instead) and spent our extra time roaming around neighborhoods. Don't miss the left hand turn!

Renting bikes and making our way up the Island Line Trail was the highlight of our trip to Burlington! We went as far as South Hero, which means we had the pleasure of riding the Bike Ferry. Everyone was so nice! We left in the morning and were back by early afternoon - it was so beautiful. We did the ride with two children (11 & 13) and while it was a stretch for the youngest, he has no regrets and talks about the trip fondly. Highly recommended.

The Burlington Bike Path was a highlight of our Northeast trip and it all began at Local Motion. The staff was friendly and helpful. The prices were quite reasonable. The bikes were in great condition. And the location couldn't be any better. We just adjusted our seats and jumped right on the path for a scenic, 16-mile ride. I look forward to returning to Burlington and I'll get my bicycle from Local Motion.

I give very few 5 stars. They deserve this! Loved the whole experience from online to calling them to bikes to lovely bike path. Think about spending three hours and have fun. Remember that the way home is uphill oh so slightly so reserve some energy. Great parking as well in the deck. Great all around! Thanks LM!

We rented bikes here in June 2021 to ride the bike path and causeway. The place is conveniently located. We did not have reservations so we had to wait a bit to get bikes. The bikes they gave us were OK but turned out to need derailleur adjustments. On several occasions, downshifting threw the chain into the spokes where it wedged behind the freewheel, which takes some effort to undo. Maybe because they're so busy they don't always have time to put returned bikes up on the rack and check them out. But this problem was quite annoying and could have been worse if it had happened to someone less inclined to get their hands dirty. I told one of the employees about the problem when we returned and he said, "OK, thanks."

The 1x7 gearing is sufficient for the trail into Lake Champlain, but we went on other trails and roads with steep hills, so we should have chosen the 24 speed hybrids. The trails through Intervale were awesome but we had a local person to guide us and would not have found them otherwise. The ferry wasn't running on weekdays so we could not cross the gap in the Lake Champlain trail. So close, but no cigar. They should put in a Zip Line! Or tell Bernie to get some federal money for a bridge, but it would need to be a high bridge or a drawbridge. The rental bikes could have used some maintenance. The headset nuts were loose on my bike so I had to stop occasionally to hand tighten them. On my wife's bike the seat flopped around but fortunately I had brought a set of Allen wrenches with me and was able to fix that. The bottle cage on my bike was very loose but I noticed that at the beginning and they tightened the bolts. For the fairly high prices they charge for rentals they should be maintaining the bicycles better. Whenever you rent bikes you should bring along some basic tools, a pump, Allen wrenches, an adjustable wrench, spare tube, and a patch kit. I don't know what happens if you have a flat tire all the way out in Lake Champlain-it would be a long walk back. I also recommend the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. You rent bikes at Chuck's Bikes in Morrisville ($20 for wonderful very newish gravel bikes) and ride the 35 miles round trip. It would be especially wonderful at peak fall foliage season. Chuck's Bikes is an amazing old school shop.

In addition to the great customer service by the staff, it was easy to pick out the bike that you want. The price is great for what you get and there are several options to add on to your bike to suit your needs. When you are in beautiful Burlington, you need a quick easy way to rent a bike, and Local Motion was just the way to do it. Also, I overheard someone explaining that they had caused some damage to the rented bycicle, but the staff at local motion did not charge them for the repair! Big plus!

Wasn't sure why this business was not rated yet, so here goes: it's awesome. My wife and I rented two bikes from them for about 3 hours this past Thurs, 8/6/15 around 10:30am. We had never been to Vermont before a ride along the waterfront rail trail was recommended by a few people. Their rates are average (we paid approx $50 for the two bikes) but what was nice was all the amenities offered including helmets, bags, water bottles, locks, etc.. The service was also great. A young woman who was handy with a wrench got us completely set up and did so in a friendly and professional manner despite being very busy. We definitely would recommend them!

Vermont's Walk/Bike advocacy group. What more is there to say? Disclaimer: I worked and volunteered for them in the past. Great, enthusiastic staff truly making an effort to assist community members and tourists alike in enjoying all that our beautiful area has to offer by way of bicycle. Check them out, rent a bike or get directions, they're here to help! Or just look in the window while traversing the waterfront path. They operate the costly bike ferry to shuttle cyclists across "The Cut" between Colchester and South Hero, and also provide free bike valet parking at local events. Probably most importantly, Local Motion teaches about 5000 kids a year in Vermont schools how to ride bicycles safely, and consults for local towns on improving cycling infrastructure.

Local Motion does so many things from education programs, running a bicycle ferry in Lake Champlain, to re-building bikes for those who lack transportation. But for me the most important Local Motion work is the extensive representation of walking and bicycling they provide in public meetings, planning processes and advocacy efforts. This work is critical but often goes unacknowledged. Every time I attend a public meeting for a transportation project there is a member of Local Motion there. For example, without the efforts of Local Motion the bicycle lanes on Colchester Avenue in Burlington may not have happened. The staff at Local Motion represents us and advances active transportation of all types in our community.
