I came in at 4:30 and I had a hair color appointment and my hairstylist Sophie was super meticulous with her work as well as super kind when doing it, and also they really took care of me when it got really late and were closing but finished my hair anyways! They are amazing!!

I LOVE this place! I've been coming here for several years now and have NEVER had a bad experience!! (cuts and colors!) I'm always impressed with how the learning leaders and students work so well together. The leaders are always patient and give clear instructions! When I've had the same student for several cuts, I love seeing their confidence and skill grow. The leaders, of course, will do more at the beginning of the students' training, taking care not to have them do certain things before they're ready. But, it's really encouraging to see those students do more at each of my visits. Recently, I had a student, Cam, who cut my hair in a pixie style. The first time, the learning leader did some of the cut, while Cam watched closely, asking good questions. Then, just yesterday, I came back and I was so impressed with Cam!! She was able to do the entire cut by herself, the learning leader just stopping by a couple of times to see how it was going. She did a fantastic job!!!

My first visit here. Absolutely loved the entire experience. Jackie was great and Donna (lead instructor) was very helpful with the final touches. Definitely a must visit for anyone looking for the experience. The cut was $12 which included a head massage, hair cut topped with a hairwash using a shampoo & conditioner. Jackie(student #2436) was patient with my string of questions. She also educated me about the different products that are out there and recommended what would work with my hair. A congratulatory shoutout to her to making it to level 2 hair expert !! 👍 Mondays are half-off for students and Thursdays is $5/$10 hair cuts for men (from Level 1/2 experts respectively)...Professional salon style help & service doesn't get better than this.

I went for my first time today . The people were nice but I was their from opening to close just to dye my hair . I know their students but I don’t have unlimited time. Still cost me 70.00 just for hair dye so I didn’t really save any money. I asked for a mani and a haircut and eyebrow wax but like I said all day just for color and couldn’t even get a haircut. My hair came out really good though .

I go to Paul Mitchell about four times a year, and I absolutely love it. Every stylist is different, and even if you go back for the same hairstyle, each time the technique used is different, too. It really is a great experience with everybody having their own style. Some days I've received poor haircuts/dye and some days I've never been happier with it. It all comes with the territory of it being a school. If you want to play it safe, ask for an Honors student. I will say that a haircut for men can take up to 2 hours depending on the stylist's experience, but it is really cheap and a great way to assist the students in their education! Definitely give it a go!

I've been a loyal customer for years and had several students as my stylists. All were enthusiastic, paid attention to detail, and made sure I left there a happy customer. The students can answer any questions about the products used or recommend products. Also, the prices are great bargains for the services and experience provided. Just be sure you take extra time out of your day when you schedule your appointment as the services are understandably slower as the students are still learning.

Jillian K. gave me a deep conditioning treatment and then styled my hair with a blow dryer. She explained everything she did while she was working on me and gave me some helpful tips like to use a purple conditioner to tone down some of my brassy highlights. The way she styled my hair was pretty and it looked and felt shiny and healthy when she was finished. She also gave me a hand massage that felt really good with lotion before she used a gel polish on my nails. She was very careful when she polished my nails and they looked great. Thank you Jillian and Paul Mitchell for a wonderful experience!

She always made sure to ask me exactly what I wanted, and then laid out a plan step by step on how she was going to get me there. She informed me of what she was doing each step of the way and was very helpful while answering my questions. My color and style was phenomenal and I get so many complements. I plan to continue going back and recommend her to everyone that I know!

Kelly was wonderful, extremely professional and an excellent listener. She took the time to review the color chart to match my color perfectly and the cut was outstanding, too. I only wish she wasn't graduating so soon since she won't be there when I come back for my next visit. I drive to your school over 40 minutes away because I am so impressed by the character and quality of the students and the work.

I was nervous about getting my hair cut during a pandemic, but Paul Mitchell The School was prepared. The facility was clean (people were actively cleaning throughout my appointment), everyone was in masks (clients are required to wear them as well), ample sanitizer stations, plus many other precautions. You come to your appointment with your hair already washed and dry, so that takes away another point of contact. Overall I was extremely happy with the whole experience, cut included! The Learning Leaders always provide excellent guidance to the students and make sure you walk out looking great.

I naturally have very dark brown hair (shade 2) and I really wanted to get it bleached and dyed to a light chestnut. My hair has to be done in 2 separate parts since I've never bleached it before. The first time was excellent! The highlights are incredible and the bleach worked really well. My hair was not damaged at all and it still has its natural shine! I am definitely going back to get it finished. I can't wait for my full results!!

I love this place. I got my hair cut and colored by Hannah #2119. She's incredibly friendly and did an amazing job. They give you a professional salon look for half the cost. All students are guided by their learning leaders and they are all extremely educated on making sure to use high quality product for your hair type. Everyone there is incredibly friendly and positive. The prices are amazing, especially for a college student like myself. You can't beat their half-off price Mondays for college students. I have been a faithful client for three years and have had many students style my hair. Each one has been friendly and devoted to giving my hair some flair. I highly suggest this salon. I've come here multiple times before to get my pixie cut trimmed, and I've enjoyed it all but the last time, where I had to wait for 40 minutes because the student that I had an appointment with, Becca, was still cutting her last appointment's hair. However, the Paul Mitchell staff members were really nice and accommodating, so they found another student, Nikki 2094, to cut my hair instead. Overall, I love that they care so much about their work, and I especially love the head massages that come with the hair wash!

I am always treated professionally and given first class service. I just went there a few weeks ago and low and behold! This place is awesome. Seriously, I had Ariel (with red hair) and she was super sweet. Plus there was another student assisting her that was also really good. The students are really nice, and they work really hard. The instructor was awesome, energetic, and knowledgeable. My hair turned out great, I was happy and plan to go back next week. Here's the thing people: It's A SCHOOL. Yes, the prices are great, but make sure you pay the difference in kindness, patience, and a dose of reality. You, too, will leave pleased - and feel warm and fuzzy for helping an awesome student.

The salon is in a very nice area and the building very well kept. The receptionists were sharp, swift and warm. Hanna(h) was my stylist. She listened to my concerns and wants and didn't miss a thing. I really do love my new style......and, she didn't over cut the length! The supervisors are near but not hovering and were also very good. Each of the team were dressed stylishly and looked so professional and modern. Very cool. Overall, excellent experience!

This is a great environment: the service and prices were excellent. I went in to receive a relaxer (chemical service) and cut. I was paired with Jasmin (2113), who gave me a tour of the facilities and offered me the free coffee/water. Jasmin asked me about my current hair care regimen. She talked to her stylist leader about the services being provided. Overall, she did a great job and was very professional throughout the whole process. Paul Mitchell the School has gained a new client. I have been telling my friends and family about the great service. Also, they sale all of the Paul Mitchell products, which Jasmin was helpful in explaining products that would be beneficial to me.

Since November I've been going to Paul Mitchell about every 2 months. Up until coming here I have always had trouble getting a nice cut for my curly hair. It's nice to see them trained with the skills to handle Men's hair. I normally pay around 5-12 dollars for my cuts and I would be willing to pay much more for their services. The staff is nice, the students really listen to the instructors and the instructors have a real keen eye for detail and getting my style to pop in just the right way.

I've been coming to Paul Mitchell for years and I always have a great experience! I came in last week for a trim, I asked to have an inch taken off. It had been at least 4 or 5 months since my last cut but I have really long hair so I can kind of get away with it. Audrey #2038, a level 2 stylist, suggested I take 2 inches off overall, with a trim to my long grown out layers as well, to give my hair back some volume and get rid of the 'scraggle' as I call it! She was quick, did a great job of making my hair look healthy again, and she was so cool, we talked the entire time. The front desk people are always helpful and everyone seems to genuinely enjoy being there. One reason I love coming here is because an Instructor actually comes over to clarify that I am indeed happy with my new 'do before the appointment is over, and I was and am! I got plenty of compliments on my hair that day so thanks Audrey!

I came here originally for highlights and a trim, but had a crazy idea to get a big change in the waiting room. I ended up getting a long bob and cutting about 9 inches of hair off, highlights, bangs, and my undercut touched up. I had Brooke and I wanted several things that she had never done before. But she did an amazing job!! She was so excited to learn new things and I was glad to have someone so ready to learn. She did an amazing job and made sure she had a learning leader show her how to do something before she tried. She was also super sweet and personable. The whole thing took a quite a while, but it was completely understandable given that she was doing several things for the very first time. I am so happy with the job she did and would definitely recommend anyone that goes here to specifically ask for her. I felt very lucky to have a student that was so passionate about what she was doing.

I have had my hair cut, colored and a deep conditioning treatment. The last highlight was one of my favorites EVER!! The value is well worth spending a little more time on, and the staff is extremely friendly and competent. I love Erin, one of the instructors, and I would trust any suggestions she would make. I plan to make this my permanent place to go for my hair needs.

My experience was great at Paul Mitchell the School St. Louis. When you walk in everyone is very nice and everything looks clean and neat. All of the students look very professional with their hair and make up done. My student Elise showed me around the school and offered me a refreshment when I got there. Holy moly is all I can say. Kevin, the student stylist extraordinaire, greeting me right on time. He took the time to listen to what I wanted done, then recapped with Kelli, the pleasant and friendly stylist leader, when she came by. I told Kevin that I had to be out in 90 minutes to get to the airport, and all went perfectly from there. Great wash, perfect trim and an amazing blow out. I was so pleased with the entire experience that I booked a follow-up appointment, and even added a manicure and make-up application to my return visit! And did I mention the PRICES??!! Dirt cheap for high quality service!! I really couldn't have been any happier with the entire process!!! Highly recommend!! So happy I found this school!

I absolutely LOVE Paul Mitchell the School St. Louis!! I started getting my hair cut here when I first moved to St. Louis in December 2012. My roommate recommended the school, as she had been there a couple of times and had great experiences. I was honestly a little apprehensive to go here at first, because I didn't know how I felt about having a student cut my hair. My worries were completely wiped away after my first appointment. I had been considering a fringe for about a year, but was still nervous about going through with it. My future professional, Brittany, was so helpful answering all of my questions, and made me feel at ease. She did a FABULOUS job, and I have been going back ever since. Brittany has graduated and is no longer there, but she recommended a couple of the other future professionals, and I have been so happy with the results of both. Not to mention that the prices here are super reasonable (~$17 for a wash and cut) and the atmosphere is refreshingly energizing. I always leave with a smile on my face and looking forward to the next time I get to return for another cut!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! Seriously, some of the best hair cutting experiences I've ever had- and at a SUPER affordable price! I love my hair stylist, (Allie, #632). She is Phase 1. When I first learned that I was going to be with a Phase 1 I was a little nervous....what if they messed up my curly hair?! These tresses are quite finicky at times. Turns out, I had nothing to fear. These students really know what they're doing, and Allie is so nice! She recommends great products, and I can afford to try them because the cut is so cheap! Today I got a hair cut, dry shampoo, and sun protective spray for only $29!! Really, where can you get a deal like that? Because this is a teaching experience, everyone is very helpful and not snooty like some other salons I've been to in St. Louis. I will continue to come here time and time again =]

What a terrific experience! Everyone at the school was very warm and friendly, and I felt very comfortable talking with my stylist, Amelia. :) She was great at communicating with me and making sure that all of the styling happening was just what I wanted. At the end, she walked me through the specific hair products that she used and was very honest about which ones she preferred and which ones would suit my hair texture best. I have gone to the Paul Mitchell school for both a manicure and haircut and have loved each experience. Everyone was extremely professional and paid attention to detail. I would highly recommend Tania; she did an excellent job with my haircut and taught me excellent tips about keeping my hair strong and healthy. Since this is a school and the students must get approval from their teachers before and after each service, the process does take longer than a normal salon, so just plan accordingly.

I've been going to Paul Mitchell Saint Louis over the past few years for color. I actually went to a salon in the loop one time for color a few years ago and the person totally ruined my hair. When I tell you it was bad, I actually walked out with my hair half wet with about four different colors in it. I couldn't even drive my car I was so upset. My hair was about waist length and I just knew it was damaged beyond repair. I couldn't have gone out in public or work with my hair looking like it did, it was really embarrassing and I left that salon in tears! I immediately thought of Paul Mitchell because I knew they specialize in color and they were a reputable salon since I had visited one before in Los Angeles. So I googled them, I drove directly there and they saved my hair. I told them what happened, I was crying, my hair was wet and I was a mess. Sam was a miracle worker! After being there for several hours, I think I was the last person to leave that night, they were able to tone down all the colors in my hair. It wasn't back to normal but it sure didn't look like it did when I arrived. I continued to go back for treatments and it helped my hair tremendously. Since that day, they are the only ones I'll let touch my head especially when it comes to coloring. My hair is back to it's normal length and I go in for highlights every four or five months. I always have a pleasant experience even if I don't necessarily get the exact color I anticipate. Super courteous, very professional and I like the fact they they are a learning salon. I'm a pretty picky person when it comes to my hair but I definitely recommend this salon.

I have gotten SO many compliments on my new hair color and cut. Jessica (#733) did an outstanding job at picking the right color for me based on my natural color and skin tone. She took her time to ensure that everything was done correctly. My cut is even and my hair finally looks healthy and thick, which is what I wanted. She and her learning leader, Derek, also took the time to make sure that I knew how to dry and style my hair at home. I had so much fun at the school too - everyone was so nice, and the students seemed to be genuinely supportive of each other. I can't wait to go back!

I'm pretty particular when it comes to my hair but Paul Mitchell School has not failed me. Had a color appointment with Amelia (#711) last week and am still ecstatic about the color! She was great to work with in choosing the right shade/color and was very personable. Because I have long, thick hair, it's always a challenge putting color in my hair but she tried hard to keep it at 2 bowls, instead of 3, taking my tight budget into consideration. Long story short she was successful and definitely recommend going to her in the future!

Paul Mitchell the School St. Louis is the place to go! From the minute I walked in the door, I felt immediately welcome. The girl at the front desk was EXTREMELY friendly and gave me a tour of the place since it was my first time. I work with Rachel who attends Paul Mitchell and she got me to come in and get my hair colored. I'm so glad she convinced me to do so. It was a very friendly environment, my hair turned out great, and it was very affordable. I paid $70 for color, product and tip. At a normal hair salon I would have easily paid $120 on just the color. I strongly recommend visiting Paul Mitchell! You'll be glad you did!

I would definitely recommend the Paul Mitchell school to anyone who is looking to do something different or unique with their hair. They cut your hair, shampoo it, and style it for about the same price you can get it done at Great Clips. They even offer discounts to students! The staff is very friendly, helpful, and provide really great tips on hair care! You might be worried about getting your hair done by a student, but most of these students are trained very well and even do a better job than getting it cut elsewhere. It's very rare that you will go home dissatisfied with your cut. The customer also gets double checked by the learning leader, a certified Paul Mitchell Hair Stylist, to make sure that the student didn't mess up anything. Personally, I love it there and would recommend it to anyone looking to get out of that regular cut.

I LOVE this school! I came in with super dark brown hair and wanted to go Julianne Moore red. Tiffani was able to get the job done on the first try and while my hair often felt dry and over worked from color in the past, she recommended products that made my hair feel better than it did even before the color. I have been back 7 times, every six weeks and my hair has never been better. I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience. So many are contributing to your final result while you're here. It's fantastic.

I have been going to the STL Paul Mitchell school for years, and have never been disappointed. My most recent visit, however, was INCREDIBLE. Xenisa (2564) was my student stylist, and she was friendly, confident, kind, and so incredibly talented. I have never felt better about my hair than after I left this cut! I have big, curly, thick hair, and she cut it with perfect round layers and styled it with lots of bounce. I love it, I feel confident, and I have had SO MANY strangers comment on how much they love it in recent weeks. Xenisa, thank you! I am a big fan of going to schools to get my hair and nails done, it gives someone some experience and it's affordable! This school is amazing and both Brooklyn and Tammy are fantastic! Brooklyn did my hair twice and took me from red to brown and then to blonde! She did a great job and had lots of help from her fellow Phase 2's! Tammy did my nails today and was very social and did an amazing job! My nails look and feel fantastic! I came in about a week ago for my 2nd experience at the Paul Mitchell School in the CWE. Everyone at the front desk greeted me immediately and was very nice. Sami was my stylist and was equally as friendly. She helped me figure out what type of shampoo and conditioner I needed, and I LOVED the way she styled my hair! We chatted it up during most of my appointment, which was a change from other places -- I am usually just sitting there staring at the mirror while the stylist does who knows what to my hair! It was refreshing to be able to enjoy my time and laugh a little, unlike most other salons. My only "complaint" would be that in both of the times I have gone, the wait was a little long and the appointments do take longer than usual because the stylists have to go and check with their supervisor before doing much to your hair. Other than that, the entire experience was great and everyone was very professional, while still fun and enjoyable. You can't beat the price either! I'm glad I can help these stylists get closer to their goal of becoming professional hair stylists :) Definitely going to continue going back.

This salon has a great location in Central West End. Considering this is a school, it provided the same level of service as a professional salon. From check in to check out everyone was professional and most importantly I left with a great hair cut. I would definitely visit again. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars was due to the online scheduling (no definite date/time at the start) and the fact that you are not guaranteed to see the same stylist (because it is a school and they do eventually graduate). Also, be certain to bring cash for tip as there is not an option to tip on the credit cad bill.

I'm very, very grateful that I was referred to the Paul Mitchell School shortly after relocating to St. Louis. I can't afford to pay for haircuts (not to mention color, highlights, or other services) at a regular salon, so finding a place with genuinely affordable prices was such a relief! One of the students recently helped me make the transition from a lifetime of long hair to a pixie cut, and I couldn't be happier. Here's the only caveat: Your haircut will most likely NOT be completed quickly. As a full-time mom, I savor the couple of hours of alone time I get to enjoy while getting my hair cut; but if you're in a rush, then this probably isn't the place for you. If you can take the time, however, I expect you'll be delighted. The students are eager to prove themselves, so they perform their work with great care and attention to detail. You'll also benefit from the added experience of the teachers who are carefully supervising the students' work. The atmosphere is busy, but very pleasant and professional. And, as an added bonus, the School is located right above The Cup, so you can stop by and enjoy a fantastic cupcake while you're out!

It's such a great option for a student on a budget like me - I can go in and get what I want done to my hair and be confident that the results will always be good, but it's so much less expensive than going to a salon. The only downside is that sometimes appointments go really long, but honestly it's worth it because of the great price and the friendliness and knowledgeability of everyone who works there. Amber, the stylist who has worked with me for the past few months, is absolutely fantastic and knows exactly what she's doing, and with her help I've been able to beautifully and healthily maintain very long bleached platinum blonde hair at an incredibly reasonable price. I got a pixie cut squared off in back but keeping a long bang in front from Jen (#2934), plus royal blue highlights at the top and through the bang. I LOVED the cut. I wish I'd picked a different color, but I insisted on the royal blue rather than a lighter one, so that was my error, not hers. Next time I get it colored, definitely going lighter. This was my third visit and third color. Had a good experience each time, but Jen is definitely my favorite by far! Fantastic time; I really enjoyed it. Prices are awesome.

I have gone here to get men's cuts for about 4 times in the last year. I've always done level II. I saw Brittni (who has since graduated and went on to Chicago) and now I see Angela. I've always brought in a picture and tried to give them a fun challenge, and they have been very good at following the pic and listening to me. They also make suggestions for what they think will be better, it can take a little longer than usual because they are learning. But for the price, the vibe and energy of the school is amazing! It doesn't feel like a drab place, it already sort of feels like a high end salon where a guy would pay 60$ for a cut. They make good styling product recommendations. It's fun helping them develop their skills and build their portfolios (if they do before and after photos of you). Sometimes I thought the styling tips were lacking or the cut missed minor details. Angles gives me oil scalp massages and those are awesome. Great place.

She also gave me product recommendations that I actually found helpful, which is rare! It was one of the best cuts I've gotten at the School and in the quickest time--under an hour. Supervisors sign off on every haircut, so you don't have to worry about not getting a quality cut. My only critique would be that the actual cut can take longer than expected, as these are students. But if you're like me, the cheaper price makes up for the extended session.

I move around often and I am always looking for a good hair salon. My last hairstylist in MD was trained at Paul Mitchell and told me to look for a school at my new destination. I found this one in St. Louis and made an appointment with Natalie on 21 Sep. I have naturally curly hair that I have relaxed to a wavy curly texture that I like to wear straight. This normally confounds people, but my MD hairstylist assured me that anyone at the school would be able to handle it. I consulted my MD hairstylist before my appointment for her opinion on the color and style that I wanted. I passed this information on to Natalie during our appointment and was happy to see that she was open to considering my MD hairstylist's suggestions. More importantly, Natalie made some suggestions of her own which complimented my MD stylists suggestions. It took awhile (I was there from 10a to 3p) since I received highlights on the top, dark color on the bottom, a trim, and blow dry and style, but it was worth it and it was cheaper than I would have paid my MD stylist! I came out of the salon with beautiful, flowing hair! It was as if I went to see my MD hairstylist. I did have to schedule a "re-do" because several days after my service, I realized that my highlights were not close enough to the roots for me, but Natalie understood and agreed to touch it up for just the cost of one bowl of color ($10). I later brought my 3.75 yr old daughter who has long, thick, virgin curly spirally/coily hair, for her first PM experience. I previously took her to a children's salon in VA and it was a horrible experience. They used the wrong products and tools for her curly hair. Natalie did an excellent job on her hair! She was gentle and patient. My daughter quickly overcame her anxiety and especially loved it when the other stylists gave her candy for being so good. Her hair was so pretty when Natalie finished and she received so many compliments throughout the day. It was a great experience for only $12. Natalie will definitely be our go-to stylist.

Today was my first time coming to Paul Mitchell School for a haircut and I will definitely be coming back! Online scheduling was easy and I got a confirmation email. Upon arrival I got an awesome shampoo and scalp massage, and then Aaron, my hairstylist for today, and I discussed how I wanted my haircut. He was very attentive and thorough and the end result is exactly what I wanted. The whole experience takes about 1.5-2 hours, but I enjoyed getting a shampoo, haircut, and blowdry, all for just $17 by a Phase II hairstylist! It's definitely worth the time and effort they put into it. Throughout the haircut, Aaron checked with his instructor Erin to make sure everything looked good (which it did). I definitely felt like both of them were great at listening to my preferences for the haircut and I was really happy and satifised with how my hair looked afterwards. They suggested a few hair products for me but were not too pushy in trying to sell/market the products. I enjoyed my haircut today and I look forward to coming back for my next haircut!

Got my hair retwisted and nails done. I also wanted a color but the stylist seemed a bit skittish, first time doing black hair, and I was too. Nailed the twists but the manicure was lackluster and chipped off after a few days. I really like my nails to last awhile so the chipping was a big deal.The staff was nice and suggested good hair products. The retwist style was for a reasonable price, less than in professional shops and was good for the price.

Pros: Affordable haircut, looks ok and I was able to get a same-day appointment at the time I wanted with parking conveniently nearby. Would go back in a pinch if I could get a different stylist. Cons: cut, style and deep conditioning took 2 hours! Hairdresser student seemed really novice and a bit awkward but nice, did not ask how I prefer to style my hair or part it for that reason and ended up with a middle part older person flat do. Also, the senior level hairdresser who was supposed to watch over was hardly present and stopped by a couple of times very indifferently. She left before my cut/style was done. I would think she would have wanted to see the final "product."

Even at a student hair school, I expect to receive quality, professional service. I've always had really good results, and I always see a "level 1" student who isn't so experienced. I've been going to this Paul Mitchell School here on Maryland in the CWE since 2009 (yip - since the recession started.) Maybe I have different expectations from the majority of people, but when I'm paying 1/4 of the regular price, I figure the whole process will take longer, and it does. I figure the coloring process will be more convoluted and it is. But the students are great - sweet and fun and chatty; the whole place has a good energy and they really try very hard. I think the supervisors are excellent - they watch the students like hawks, and the students have to check in at every stage. Once I had a haircut that was starting to go badly; the student called the supervisor over and they worked on my cut until it was correct.

This place is awesome. I've gotten maybe four or five phase two cut and colors here and have a great experience every time. I like that the stylists there really focus on listening to you and giving you exactly what you ask for. It's definitely worth it to pay the slightly higher price for phase two stylists. Arriving first with a pixie cut, growing it out for 6 months, shaving it bald, and now having grown it out to a chin-length bob, I've always gone in with a vague description of a specific look I want, and every stylist has been able to match my vision. My last cut was from Mallory 964. This past weekend I met Kristeen Young, and one of the first things she said to me was that she liked my haircut. I was at the Paul Mitchell school in St. Louis four weeks ago to get a much-needed haircut. I'm very new to the area so I hadn't the slightest idea where to go, and figured I may as well give this place a try since it was quite affordable. It was definitely worth it. I was able to get a walk-in appointment on a Saturday with minimal waiting (less than 15 minutes, if I recall correctly). I then spent the next hour and a half or so receiving excellent, personable service from one of their stylists, Jack. The service I received was really the full she-bang, if you will– I wasn't aware that scalp massages were actually a thing until I went here, but they are, and they're quite nice. I will be going again today to get everything touched-up, or maybe I'll just try something entirely different– I haven't made up my mind yet. The only caveat I would offer is that this might not be the best place to go if you want to get in and out as quickly as possible, simply because that didn't seem to be the sort service they emphasized. But with that said, the Paul Mitchell School in St. Louis offers excellent, professional and friendly service at a price that is extremely difficult to beat.

I've been coming to the Paul Mitchell School STL for cut and color for the past two years and not once have I been disappointed! I change my hair color quite a bit and don't have the easiest requests, but have left happy every time. I go to the Phase 2 students, but typically have a new student each time. They've taken me from dirty blonde to platinum to ombré to golden blonde. Everyone is very friendly, warm, and always willing to help each other. Many times I'll have several people working on my hair at once which feels like star treatment! The learning leaders are also super helpful and knowledgeable - I always feel at ease and that I am in the care of trained professionals. Would recommend to anyone who colors often and wants to save some money without sacrificing any awesome results! 😊👍🏼

I've been getting my hair cut, lightened, permed, and buzzed here for five years. The speed and quality of service could vary depending on the student, but you can always rebook with one who works well with you. I've only ever left disappointed once out of the countless times I've gone here; most times, I'm super happy with their work and shocked at how affordable it is. And because the students are required to do everything by the book and are supervised step-by-step by their teachers, you don't have to worry about anything going horribly awry, and there's always someone who can explain methods and processes to you.

During that time, I have had a variety of experiences, some excellent and others more variable, but generally very good. PROS: Service is good, prices are reasonable. CONS: Hair color takes about 3 hours, because the students (Future Professionals) are very closely supervised. Consulting with instructors (Learning Leaders) takes time. But it is worth it!

I've been to the school twice now and they do a really good job. Yeah, it slow because they're students and yeah it's a little scary at first, but I've come out of there with really nice haircuts each time. It took about an hour 15 for me, but they're super meticulous, so there's no need to worry about them not doing a good job. PLUS the cost is cheaper than great clips and much better (in my opinion).

First of all, I am extremely picky who cuts my hair while at school, but was in need of a trim for my long damaged summer hair. Although Alli may be a student working her way to phase II, her skills & personable vibe became apparent that I had nothing to worry about. The staff and students create a wonderful experience and depending on how comfortable your student is your hair will be amazing no matter what! I experienced the color bar for the first time yesterday and I was nervous but the student working closely with the instructor was very frank on the color that I would end up with and suggested a few things and viola! When I go to get my hair done, I usually have an idea of what I want and then let the hairdresser go with it. Kendl asked me questions to figure out exactly what I wanted. She also told me what might not work with my super fine hair. Kendl did my cut and rolled my perm. Elly took over and made sure each roller was saturated. Elly and their learning leader made sure I was comfortable they entire time. Everyone was super friendly and explained what they were doing each step of the perm. I've been going to Paul Mitchell the School for 6 years now. I am very picky with my hair, but I am always pleased with the experience at Paul Mitchell. Every future professional consults with a learning leader several times during the cut, so you have multiple experts working on getting you the best possible haircut. The haircuts are extremely affordable ($12 for Phase I Future Professional; $17 for Phase II). It is important to remember that these haircuts take longer than haircuts at more traditional salons. Make sure you put enough quarters in the meter for at least three hours if you have long hair. I think it's worth it to request a Phase II professional for the extra $5, because the more experienced students cut and style hair more quickly. No matter which option you choose, you will get a fabulous haircut and style for an unbelievable price.

Got my hair cut and colored last month and thought the girl (she has since graduated) did a great job. the cut was better than my cut at an expensive Clayton salon and the color while not quite what I wanted was no worse than what the salon did (I apparantly can not describe the color well to anyone!). I have been in this industry as a colorist, manicurist, and now barber and have enjoyed success because of the hard work and thorough education PMTS. No other school equips students with opportunities to work with celebrities and creates a culture of positivity like this school. This may be long winded, but I have to say that other professionals I've worked with dont know even some of the basics of hairdressing because their schools only taught them how to pass their exams and nothing about the true art and science of cosmetology. There is no such thing as "just hair cutting". It is an art that takes years to master and is always excitingly packed with new adventures, which is why it must be taken seriously. I'm a cosmetology school newbie, and this was my first time going to the Paul Mitchell school. So I didn't know what to expect when scheduling an appointment for a bridesmaid updo. Well, I certainly didn't expect such accommodating service and dedicated students. I was able to go in a couple days ahead of my scheduled appointment for a quick consult with my student. If you've been there before, you can request a specific student. But since I am a first-timer, I was set up with Rachel (683) who patiently listened as I described my hair issues and let me send her some ideas on Pinterest so she could practice the look before the appointment. I was very impressed with her enthusiasm and dedication to give me a good result. My actual appointment isn't until today, but I will update this review with the results! UPDATE: I went in for my updo with Rachel, and gave her an idea of what I wanted and she worked magic! I got so many compliments at the wedding that weekend, that I handed out her card to let people make appointments with her. Couldn't be happier with her work, and I'm going back to get a cut and color from her. This school really supervises its students to help them do a great job for their clients.

This was really an awesome experience. My student was Gail, and she was the sweetest thing ever. The Teaching Expert was sooo knowledgeable as well. I went in for a pastel turquoise color and cut, and, although they did not have the color in a bottle, they mixed it themselves for me. It turned out AWESOME! I am a current student at Paul Mitchell the School - Saint Louis and I can tell you by being there 8 hours a day that it is fantastic! I initially thought environment and people were fake. I though no one is this happy and this nice, but then I enrolled and I understand why. They don't just give cheap services and teach you about hair. They push you to reach your full potential and encourage and foster personal growth. I had low self esteem before I went there and a very down attitude. I walk in in the mornings and Abby and Jordan are at the desk with bright faces greeting us individually with amazing "hellos". I clock in and as I walk past fellow students there are all these "hey girl" and "I love your hair" or "you look so cute today". We get on the floor and everyone is professional no gossip or malicious talk. And if ever need help 50 students and all the learning leaders are there to assist you. Originally I had asked for the highest level of experience for my stylist. I was given the second tier instead. However, that worked out really well. I was paired up with Brianda for my haircut. I now see Brianda on a regular basis. Not only is the haircut on point, but Brianda is awesome to talk to. She's considerate, polite, honest, and knows what she's doing. Plus $5 haircuts on Wednesday? Can't beat that! My only concerns are that I was given a different hairstylist level not just the once, and my first appointments lasted exceedingly long. I would like to say that Paul Mitchell The School Saint Louis was an awesome place to receive an education. I didn't get into Paul Mitchell The School St. Louis the first time I applied, and like most people I did not respond, I continued to better myself and applied a year later and got accepted. I would describe PMSTL as an environment that prepares you for being uncomfortable with familiarity. You are constantly challenged to be comfortable being uncomfortable. It's not so much what people do to you as much as what you do to yourself and for yourself in the process. If you go to Paul Mitchell with the attitude that I am attending the best cosmetology school on the planet, you will get the best education on the planet. If you attend Paul Mitchell with any other attitude, you will have to ask someone other than me what their experience was like. I had also done my homework on the owners, Michelle and Ginger. #BEASTMODE. I can't think of any other way to describe the owners of the only female owned school in the Paul Mitchell school system, to my knowledge, who had been extremely successful before they opened the school. They are also very approachable, knowledgable, and passionate about their business. Michelle actually taught me how to round brush on her hair and was like a low key angel to me, constantly being encouraging. I actually read horrible reviews on the school prior to going, and have met some people in the industry that had something negative to say about the school. Let me tell you this, it is no walk in the park, and you may not get along with everyone there, but you will have access to international hair icons, access to the best cutting edge techniques for all aspects of cosmetology, ability to have one on one education from national educators daily, and to be quit honest with you, experience an education that is basically spear headed by one of the best educational talent scouts Dionne, who is also an educator. I am going to keep it real, if hair and make up are not your passion, don't waist your money, but if it is, you will be so behind if you go anywhere else. The reason I am posting this is because it is the right thing to do. I went to a great school with a great attitude and had a great experience. It was my beginning, who I really am and who I really want to be! There is no possible way you can compare any other cosmetology school to PMSTL, cause you don't just learn cutting, coloring, perms, and relaxers. Their vision is so much bigger than that, you learn systems, techniques, styling, culture, networking, business, family, love, fun, and most importantly you learn YOURSELF!!! Who you are and your purpose here on this earth. The owners Michele and Ginger are 2 of the most phenomenal women I've ever met. The staff that they have to teach you are a bunch of awesome learning leaders, they all go above and beyond your expectations, very involved and hands on all the time!!! They all tell you what you need to know and not what you want to hear. I clocked my 1500 hours on May 23, 2013, the girl I was a year ago is NOT the women I am today!!! I thank my awesome school for that. I've learned so much this past year about hair, makeup, nails, who I am , and life period. I have experienced things that have changed me forever for the better, and I am forever greatful. I called ahead and spoke with someone on the phone who was very helpful and polite, although the price she quoted me on the phone was incorrect. When I got there to purchase the the product there was 1 person checking out ahead of me. There was only 1 person ringing people out and I waited for also 10 minutes to checkout. The person at the check out counter was extremely slow and held conversations with other employees while checking out the person in front of me which made her even slower. I was trying to get somewhere else and i thought I could just run in and run out but this was not the case. I've read comments that the services here take a very long time, but I would think just purchasing products would be pretty quick.
