McKenzie was extremely Professional, kind and answered all my questions that I had concerning my haircut. I definitely would recommend her to anyone who is looking to have their haircut and a little bit nervous having it done. She took her time with me which made me feel more comfortable. I never had my haircut at Empire beauty salon before. I will definitely go back to because of her, thank you Mackenzie. Hope to see you in the future if not. My sister and I were On vacation and decided to check out the school. The teacher and students were great. I would recommend checking this place out. My hairdresser did a great great job and she was very sweet. I got a complement on my hair almost immediately after leaving. The teacher was also great with the students and you could tell they all respected her so that was nice to see. I would NOT recommend getting a manicure. The manicurist was very nice and polite but it was like watching a ten year old do my nails. I didn’t want to be mean so I sat through the experience but believe me when I say I was squirming in my chair to get out of there. My sister and I laughed our heads off when we got into the car so it was a funny experience and a great story to tell when we got home. Needless to say my first stop was to cvs to grab nail polish remover. When the teacher saw my nails she looked at me and said yah- you won’t be paying for that. So no harm done. It was a great experience and a funny one. I love to laugh and we did a lot of that. I love pampering myself and I felt like I did that too. Check it out you will love it. Just stay away from the manicurist. Lol

I get root touch ups and bang trims here regularly. Every student I have sat for has been personable and professional. They ask questions about what I want and check in throughout the process to ensure I'm satisfied. The students are great about asking for assistance from thier instructors if they aren't certain about something. I am always pleased with the end result and really enjoy the experience.

It helps in an environment like this when everyone around wants to be here, and they do. Everyone here is happy to be here and want to learn, which makes the experience here much better! Awesome women’s cut, and cheap!! Edit: went back again for a long cut. It took over 2.5 hours because it was her first time. -___- But I guess you’re in for the luck of the draw! The cut was good and the girl who did it was sweet. Still 5 stars, just know what to expect.

I had an amazing experience at Empire! The instructor assured me that I was in good hands and her student, Sophie, was attentive and skilled! She did a perfect job on my haircut. Will be returning for a trim! edit: I usually have great experiences here but my most recent haircut was a disappointment. The haircut I requested was a bit complicated than my usual bob and the student went too short, so short they didn't bother to texturize it. I think this could've been avoided with a bit more over site and transparency if a haircut concept is too complicated for wherever the skill level of the student is. Of course I understand that these folks are students, and I was hopeful that in a few weeks the haircut would settle in, but the layers aren't growing out well at all (about a month out). I'll be returning to turn my hair back into a bob when the layers grow out. Ya win some and ya lose some!

Lydia did full foils and toner on my hair. She did an excellent job! I left with beautiful natural looking highlights - never thought my hair color could look so good! She was conscientious, focused and skilled. Also, the teachers are always present offering support, guidance and helpful suggestions (as well as other students!) it’s a great team effort! I have changed my weekly salon appointment to one with the amazing instructors and students at this school! The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed - no drama in sight or hearing. I really appreciate this, as I use salon time as downtime, me-time and the negative atmosphere of drama felt in some salons is a negative for me. Plus, the attention paid to my hair by students and instructors alike is better than I could hope for. Kudos to Amber, to Carly and to Instructor Heidi!

I am now senior level on the salon floor cutting clients hair with a educator that goes over and beyond to help all the student stylist give the best haircut to clients expectations. I have the knowledge and support from all the educators as well as Staff to be confident behind my chair knowing their always right behind me guiding me threw this journey to graduate as well as when I leave empire to start the next stage in my career as a hair stylist.

Great experience with Cidney tonight! I asked for short but not skin short on the sides, and she was very patient and attentive. Blended with the longer hair on top perfectly for me. She nailed the haircut. Very professional and passionate cosmetologist! Highly recommend Cidney at Empire, and Ms. Doucette gave great guidance when she was needed.

If I could give Empire more an 5 stars I would! I went there for my first time last week, and I had a beyond wonderful experience. Selena did my hair. Post Covid hair appointments has proven to be an obstacle course in the dark if you have loooong hair. It was time… couldn’t book anything so I remembered I was half a mile from empire beauty school. As a woman in my mid 50’s I feel it’s important to help women coming up so I called and BOY I AM GLAD I DID! I had a beautiful woman named Destiny, when I say she put the time in I mean …WOW! Amazing work. All for 11$. What?! Her supervisor was also amazing and supportive and I was completely comfortable. So don’t sleep on this!! RUN to her and get your own magical cut

Today was my first time as a client at Empire Beauty School's salon in Portland, Maine. It was such a positive experience, and I feel beautiful and pampered! First, I want to give a shout-out to Amber who took my call and set up my appointment. Amber listened to my specific needs and hair issues, and told me she was setting me up with a student stylist who had the experience to address my hair problems. Thank you, Amber! When I arrive at my appointment, everyone was very welcoming, and the salon had a good vibe with great music playing softly in the background. It was clear that the student stylists were happy to be there, and they seemed very supportive of one another's work. My stylist, Shelby, and the supervising instructor, Ms. Heidi Doucette, were fantastic! They listened to my concerns about my hair issues. Ms. Doucette discussed with Shelby a course of action that we all agreed upon, and she came by periodically to check on my stylist's work, give suggestions and hands-on instruction. Ms. Doucette has a beautiful and patient teaching style, and I saw how positively Shelby and the other student stylists respond to her instruction and guidance. Shelby did an incredible job, not only cutting my natural hair, but also carefully cutting and blending a synthetic hair topper that I had brought with me (no small task!). Shelby's precision cutting my hair topper is so well done that it blends perfectly with my natural hair underneath. I am very, very pleased with my result today. Over the years, I have had hairpieces cut by many, many stylists with many, many years of experience. Shelby's work on my hair topper today (with Ms. Doucette's encouragement and expert guidance) stands up to the work of any stylist who has ever worked with me. I never felt rushed, and they made me want to stay longer. I definitely will be back! Thank you Shelby and Ms Doucette!

They are students so I feel like they maybe care more about getting it right than just going to a regular salon. The students always ask their instructors for advice and leadership if they don't 100% for sure know what they're doing. They're very thorough and kind. I've had my hair done here three times and have loved the service and the result all three times. It's a great atmosphere.

I have been getting my hair cut and colored at Empire's day and night salon for the past few years. I have always left pleased with the work done. The stylist consults with their instructor before beginning, and their work is checked several times during the process. It is a school, so when you go, you should expect it to take longer. However, their fees are more than reasonable, and they use high-quality products. I don't know why anyone would go and pay full-service prices. I highly recommend them.

First time! Walking in as they opened, I was cheerily greeted by several folks who all made eye contact. After a little schedule snafoo I was lucky to sit in Alex's chair. SO happy I got him! I've never had a full shampoo and cut service from a guy before and he was gentle and confident in handling my mid-length curly hair. His teacher was running EVERYWHERE (no clue how she supports everyone with such an even, patient tone) and made sure to be there when he needed assistance. I got 3-4 inches cut with side bang framing. Originally blocked off an hour and only needed 30 minutes. It was a FANTASTIC experience and I will 100% be going back for a perm with Alex.

Love this place. Students train for 18 weeks before they are allowed in the salon. I’d recommend coming here to get your hair colored, permed, or just a cut. Great teachers follow all the students progress. Reasonable prices too.

I was a student and recently graduated. I have nothing but good things to say about the school, students, clients and teachers. The teachers are very very good with helping you with whatever you need, even if you’ve asked the questioned 5000 times. The students are always more than happy to help. The clients are understanding that students are working on them, 90% of the clients are repeats and have been coming for years. The teachers are amazing with helping no matter how long you’ve been in the Salon Level. They are so amazing. I’ve struggled with anxiety my whole life and the teachers did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. They helped me believe in myself and never gave up. I feel 100% ready to be out in a salon by myself. 10/10 would recommend going to Empire for services or if you are interested in cosmetology school!

I joined empire as a student a few years ago. I decided a career in cosmetology was something I wanted badly. I enrolled and fell in love immediately. They showed me more roots in the industry than I ever thought possible. It’s all about hair right? No! I had no idea what there were so many fun and creative things involved! This school has given me the keys to my domain and is helping me continue building my domain. I have recently joined the educator course the school offers to open up the teaching door. Because of this school I have been a successful hair stylist and make up artist with a few luxury cosmetic lines. I highly recommend this school based on my own experience and success. The great thing about getting your hair cuts here is all students are supervised by an educator who has far better skills than the average unsupervised stylist you find at a salon. Mrs. Daucette is a perfect example of a highly experienced professional, skilled in men's cuts too, that also has superb teaching skills. I always feel lucky for myself - and the student. Thumbs up.

They are very welcoming and nice. I did deep conditioning and flat iron before and they were excellent. I tried to get hair color and the girl basically didn't know what she was doing but she was a new student so can't blam her. Overall I will go there again because of the price and the welcoming environment.

Students work on your hair, that's why your there to give them time on their license. I've been going to them when they used to be Pierre's- never had a problem. Plus, I like the "drop-in" feature. Have some time and I'm in that part of town- walk in and knockout a haircut. Can't beat the price.
