I love this place! The price is great, I’ve got my hair done here 4 times with Delanie S and she’s amazing!! I’m excited for her to graduate but sad to see her go. She always does my color sooo well and even. I’ve gone to high end salons and paid hundreds before for something not even half as well done as what she does. Love it!!

I decided to visit the Aveda Fredric’s Institute in Carmel again. I had been down in February for a cut and the student did an excellent job. I am no longer coloring my hair and I wanted something different. It had been 31 years since I had gotten a perm and I thought this student would do a nice job. I showed her my ideas and she got it just right. Perms have come a long way in 30 years. Less odor, less frizz, and no burning.

Wow! I LOVE the hair color partial highlights that Lindsey O. and Annie B. did for me. The students were so professional and thoughtful to my needs. They worked very hard at getting the color just right for high and low lights. The instructors are top notch and give full instruction on how to place the foils and the color needed. I also like that the client needs and wants come first. They always ask me what I want. Wonderful experience at 1/4 cost of regular salons. Thank you girls! Great job!

Claire has an amazing sense of his client's color and style needs. He did an absolute spot-on color match for a root touch-up. The attached photo is 3 days after the appointment and unedited. If it weren't for the fact that I was sitting in a chair within an Aveda Institute, I would think he's been in the biz for years and in his own salon. (Forgive the attached photo, one of my arms is in a sling 🙄)

Going to a beauty school to have some thing done is going to be a roll of the dice. Some students are still learning and others are just excelling. I had a facial today by Ava and she did absolutely amazing. She went above and beyond with my experience. I am so happy with it and I highly recommend that other people go as well. I've been a client of Aveda since the 90's. Always my go to because of the friendly, knowledgeable students and outstanding instructors. After over 20 years of letting my hair grow older gracefully I decided on a drastic change by having my hair bleached and colored lavender. I started that change in November. I just finished with my latest appointment changing the color a bit lighter and I'm delighted. I've had massages, facials, eye brow service, and nails done. Pampering at Aveda Carmel is marvelous. I'm 71 and have steered many friends to Aveda and will continue!! Thank you to all who serve there. Thank you Maribel for my latest service. I'll be back Tuesday for nails and a facial! (if I've ever needed to bring up a slight issue it has always been promptly and cheerfully taken care of immediately, thank you Aveda Carmel, formerly Indianapolis)

Sitting in the Aveda parking lot writing this review because everyone needs to know right now how great of an aesthetician Jessika Wilson is! I booked a 90-minute facial with her and it was honestly one of the best facials of my entire life. She is totally a natural for this industry. It was everything you could possibly want in a facial. I feel so relaxed and my skin feels and looks absolutely incredible! 10/10

I have been coming to Aveda for well over a year now for all of my hair needs. The front staff is beyond friendly & goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. Students are always lovely to work with as well as the instructors- you don’t even realize you’re at a school! It’s a total spa experience. Taniya is one of my favorite students & does impressive work on my curly hair. Her instructor Jessi is super helpful & always offers useful advice. I can’t recommend Aveda enough!!

I cannot speak highly enough about Carissa! She did such a fabulous job on my haircut. She was incredibly personable and down to earth. I’ve been to three or four high end salons in Indy, and Carissa is one of the first stylists I really enjoyed talking to. She also really understood what I wanted for my haircut, and made sure all the dead ends were gone before proceeding. I got about four inches cut off the bottom of my hair, she made sure none of it was too short to put in a ponytail and actually listened when i told her i didn’t want any short layers. I hope to be able to come back and see her for color soon, really appreciated her analysis of my hair condition and product recommendations. I also got a facial from Cailey, who did a great job as well! I got a facial from another spa in the area recently, and they did not point out or address some problem areas that Cailey helped me with. Look forward to future spa and hair appointments here.

As a middle aged man asking for a short haircut I know I don’t request the type of service most commonly offered by the students at Aveda, yet Caroline did a great job together with her instructor in figuring out the cut that would best suit my hair, and then competently carried out the job. Speed and confidence may come with experience, but care for a job well done shows from the beginning. Very satisfied with the result.

Coming back to school at age 34 was not an easy adjustment. The staff at Aveda Institute have made it possible for me to thrive. I have had opportunities to participate in two professional photoshoots and have found a mentor through Aveda who has led me into a career I’m passionate about. They don’t just teach and leave you to fend for yourself, they also have a regular career fair (like every 2-3 months) where you can connect with dozens of salon owners at once, guaranteeing you’ll find a place that you fit in and love. Experience...Approached whole exercise with caution…students after all. I felt daring, however and empowered by the big risk I was takingor thought I was taking—mostly because I did not know how I looked from the back. I had become adept at grabbing the “hair boxes” at the pharmacy during my two-year Covid hibernation, doing an overall color. Sure, there were bumps in the road, like they would run out of one color, so I had to buy another that didn’t quite match. Don’t ask about the touch ups. The journey: Laughs and more laughs. The stylist, Elizabeth Wagner is an old soul in a 20-year-old body who lifted my mental spirits throughout the delightful process which lasted five hours (the first time). Liz takes great pride in her work, but it was the journey that she made beyond fun, as I texted progress to nay-saying skeptics—family members and friends who, upon learning I was getting my hair colored frantically texted back, “Stay out of the hair department at Walgreens!” Progress: The grey trail on my head (and cowlick swirl on the back of my head) morphed into warm darks with highlights. Without question, it is the best my head has looked in over a decade…maybe two. Upon examining my “before” and after “photos” my older daughter sighed and admitted, “I’m sorry Mom, we should not have let you out of the house without a hat, but we thought you were a lost cause.” Result: I have returned to Liz who has an astonishing memory and a penchant for fun. She took my picture, touched something on her phone to color my entire hair blue (only in the picture) and we sent to off to above mentioned family and friends who immediately either CALLED or send emoji’s that I later learned are someone gasping. (It was in honor of an Indianapolis Colts game.) Aveda Fredric’s Institute has my respect for nurturing the development of a special light and delight in this world…Liz Wagner.

I've been going to Aveda school for years and I am always so very happy. They are wonderful and kind people. The instructors are just wonderful and kind and they treat you so nice here and like I said Gia was a doll today. But every student stylist I've had has been wonderful I have no complaints or problems in all the years I've been coming here. You can keep your high-end salons that rush you and take exorbitant amounts of money from you for services that are not near as good as aveda. Plus they treat you like an assembly line. This beautiful school has always been wonderful I will always keep coming here.

My 13 year old daughter had long hair down to her lower back. She was ready for something different. She picked a very short asymmetrical style. The stylist and trainer worked very hard to get the style exactly what my daughter wanted. They also did a treatment on her hair to help remove the chlorine in her hair. She looks like she had her hair done by a very experienced stylist from a high end salon. This Aveda school has a professional atmosphere with hardworking and passionate students. Thank you for making my daughter's summer.

I've received facials under two different students (Kayla - since graduated) and Kelly and both have been excellent, which is a testament to their abilities and the talents of the instructors. The subscription price ($30 for two monthly 60-minute facial sessions) can't be beat. Highly recommend.

I went on two different days to get a haircut and then a facial. The haircut wasn't the pampering experience I remember from my last visit several years ago. My hair was not washed very thoroughly and the cut was so-so... though I know that's the chance you take having a student cut your hair. The next day I went back for a facial and it was AMAZING! I will definitely be returning for the spa services.

The haircut was very good. The only thing that was disappointing was what in the past I have described to people as "the blue room of tranquility" where the shampooing happens. I have not been here for a while but the last time I was here the shampoo room had been a no talking, no cell phone zone with soft music, and aroma therapy. It was so relaxing and what I had been looking forward to. This visit, instead of peaceful quiet I instead had my shampoo in what felt like a locker room. Everyone was talking and the sound echoed making it even louder. Again, I am very happy with my haircut and for $18 it's fantastic and I will definitely be going back. I was simply expecting a different experience.

A month ago I went short for the first time. I went to a lady who said she'd been cutting hair for 25 years. Well, my 4 year old daughter could cut hair better than her! It was very choppy and boxy. A little over 7 years ago, I was traveling for work and by chance scheduled an appointment to come in to Aveda Fredrics. I had spent my entire life wanting to have red hair but had been too nervous to pull the trigger on it. I did what I’m sure was a horrible job explaining what I wanted and was very nervous about the results. Your stylists absolutely nailed it and gave me exactly what I was looking for. I was so thrilled and beyond impressed with your staff. As I travel frequently for work, I rarely can visit the same salon twice. Other salons had trouble matching my Aveda Fredrics results, so I asked if it was possible to get the formula. One of your staff who answered the phone was incredibly kind and said it would be fine to send me the formula used. I have spent 7 years using that formula and always loved my that felt magical to me. People always tell me they love my color and I’m grateful for my experience at your institute. Thanks again for the great work of 7 years ago! It really made a difference for me!

The place to go for a hair cut if you don't want to spend a lot of money and have plenty of free time. I have been going here for many years. The value can't be beat, BUT that's because you are helping the students learn so appointments can take a VERY long time. Take a book and a snack if you are getting anything more than a basic trim. I've had color take 6 hours before. The time it takes is a roll of the dice as to how far along the stylist you get is in their training and how long they have to wait for instructor consultations. My step-daughter recently had a trim take 4 hours. We still can't figure out how that is possible. The mini facial in the blue room is awesome and I love that they don't accept tips. The time thing is major though. Seriously don't go if you have somewhere to be in the next four to six hours. The price is right, but it's a commitment.

This was my first experience here, and I will definitely be back! Sofie cut my hair, and she was wonderful. The chair massage and mini facial almost put me to sleep, and Sofie did a great job of reassuring me during my time there. Next time, I'm bringing my mom! I've gone to Aveda Fredrics Institute for the past 6 years to get my hair done and have LOVED it!! I usually get a haircut and partial foil highlights and the students always do a wonderful job! They are professional and ask questions to uncover my needs. I always leave Aveda feeling pampered and refreshed. My favorite part of the experience is where they take you back to the blue room and wash/condition your hair and do a mini-facial. It's SO relaxing! The price is also unbelievable ($50/60 for a cut/highlights). The only downside to Aveda Fredric's Institute is the time it takes to get my hair done. Usually when I go in for highlights and a cut it takes 3-4 hrs. Other than it taking a long time, I have nothing else negative to say about this place. Check it out for yourself! I've got a feeling if you do, you just might want to come back again. :)

I got my hair cut there, and then colored. Had two people that cut my hair because when I went back to get it colored, I asked them to fix it a little. The first hair cutter was tentative with each snip, which I guess is to be expected. The second hair cutter was older and more confident, but in both cases, the cut wasn't great. It was okay...not terrible. Then the older lady who colored my hair massaged the color into my scalp, which I think you're not supposed to do. This made my scalp burn. I also got my eyebrows waxed, by another young girl (teenager). Several stray hairs were missed. I do a better job myself, so there's not much point paying them to have it done. Same could be said of hair coloring as well. It's easy to color my own hair and it costs $3. I just paid $2.99 for Revlon hair color at Kroger. I know Aveda is way cheaper than other salons, but $2.99 is way cheaper than Aveda, and you'll do just as good a job.

I've been coming here for about 2 years now and I very rarely every have a problem. My hair always turns out great and the mini facial is so relaxing. Some of the students might take longer than others but it's understandable there still learning and most of them might need to ask a question or two. Last year i had tried going blonde, didn’t like it & tried to dye it back myself, and it didn’t work out (basically my hair was a mess. I went to aveda to get it back to my natural color (black), and it looks amazing! i was there for about 2-3 hours, so if you have a lot of time on your hands, i would definitely recommend! for only $47 (all over color) that’s a really good price.

I went to the Aveda Salon to fix a balayage that had gone wrong at another Aveda Salon. I had virgin hair before the first mistake so when I came to Aveda Fredric's I was already stressed out at the thought of reprocessing my hair especially when I had to bleach it once. The trip did have downside, it took a bit longer than anticipated and I actually had to leave mid process, and return to finish the next day -- So give yourself extra time for whatever you plan like 2 hours extra for color However I am giving them a 5 star rating, because they were so sweet and kind, and my girl Alayna was amazing. She had so much personality and creativity, she captured my EXACT expectations, she was so passionate about doing hair and getting my hair perfect I literally cried when I got home and really got to inspect it myself. Aside from the time, I give her and the instructor that she worked with A+++ for Attitude, Creativity, and Experience, not too mention price. I have gotten compliments on my hair EVERY SINGLE DAY, and as far as damage from processing, I swear it looks healthier than when I left the first salon. I would recommend this girl (Alayna ) a million times again and again. She is a hair artist!

I look forward to my Aveyda services for several reasons. One is that I always get to learn something. I have had many trim or highlite, but because the student and I are new to each other, we review hair styling from her perspective(s), and there is always something that she sees uniquely and passes on to me. None of us have the range of shoulder motion to compare with an attendant cosmetologist but these students speak to that in their guidance to me. Each one has had extra patience and care in their touch. Aveyda has either quickly enhanced or recognized their deft styling skills from their beginnings.

When I moved to town I first looked for another Aveda salon similar to where I used to go in my old town. But I found the Aveda institute and decided to give it a try. I've been going there for 3 years now and have not yet had a bad experience. They are easy to work with and the instructors are very hands-on, present and accountable for the quality of their student's work. The students do take a bit longer than a professional hairdresser would, but the complimentary services (e.g. shoulder massage, facial, aromatherapy) more than compensate. Tips are not accepted but the counter does provide a collection area to contribute for scholarships.

Most students seem to border along the lines of obnoxious. When bored they tend to make a lot of noise and gather- talking about their annoying customers of the day. Nothing is more uncomfortable than hearing the disdain they feel about customers while under the scissors of another student... On a lighter note- I've met some fantastic stylists who seem to really take pride in their work and education. Notably, I have a stylist who now works at Salon 01 that I go to on a regular basis. I still go to Aveda from time to time when money is tight, in hopes that I find another stylist who cares as much about my hair as I do. Many students there are phenomenal while many others aren't nearly as comfortable with male styles. Meh, 5/10. Will probably still go to Aveda.

The Aveda Institute holds themselves to the highest of standards. They are professional, attentive, and genuinely caring. The atmosphere is calming and I always feel great upon leaving. The students always do a great job cutting my hair, and their instructors always approve and check on their work -- I am NEVER concerned about getting a bad haircut just because it's a school. The Fredric's Institute is by far my favorite Aveda Institute I have been to, I recommend it to everyone!

This was my 2nd facial and my 2nd visit to Aveda - first one in January by Marisol and the 2nd one in February by another girl. I enjoyed the facial very much. The first facial, I felt was done better by Marisol. I brought my friend with me for this 2nd facial since I had such a great experience the first time. This experience, we both about froze. The room was super cold. I wasn't covered up immediately with a blanket as she started the facial and then went to my feet - once she worked on my feet then she covered me with a blanket, it was freezing!!! I suggest heated blankets or heated bed to lay on. I wasn't disappointed, the facial was so relaxing but I did think my previous appointment was a better experience. I do realize that not everyone does the exact same things when giving a facial and they have their own way of doing them. I plan to book another facial in a few weeks with another friend. I will continue to come back!

(The appointment did take a little over two hours for a haircut, but this was due to the instructors being spread thin across all of the students. One instructor, not Ali, was really no help at all to Olivia when she came over, gave her no instruction, just told her to keep going when she needed some instruction on the next step to help her confidence. That was disappointing for sure, but when Ali was available, she was great!)
