I had a great experience here! Jaelyn cut my hair. She’s a cosmetologist graduating next week. Pricing is excellent - $39 for hair dye and hair cut. You do pay a bit with your time - these two services took 2.5 hours, when they would usually take just over one hour. I didn’t mind this though. The cosmetologist was very careful and her instructor came by multiple times to give input. I felt they did an extremely thorough job with great care and attention to detail that I don’t normally experience at SuperCuts or GreatClips. You may get a chance to get an inside look into the details of the services you buy here, especially if an instructor comes by to give feedback to the student helping you.

Went in for a all over color and the person I got was freindly but she did not put the dye all the way to my roots. She also added on a $15 dollar extra service without telling me it cost extra. She left product in my hair and knew. She never consulted a instructor and the one time she did was about the product still my hair and they told her to rinse it out again and she refused to.. I get they are learning but not consulting a instructor and then not doing what they said. Not to impressed but again freindly service.

I highly recommend Oliver Finley Academy of Cosmetology. I attended Oliver Finley for their nail technology program back in 2012, and I will be graduating from their esthetics program next week. When I decided to further my education, there was no question which cosmetology school I would choose. I can vouch for their top notch curriculum, instructors, facility, and staff. I have received an excellent foundation for my career in the beauty industry. They truly care for their students and well prepare you for your board exams. I am currently attending school here for the esthetics program and I love it. One thing that I find super awesome is how Oliver Finley has the option to do part time/night classes. This made it easier for me to be able to attend while working as well. On the other hand, the instructors here are great and it's so cool getting to know them and building relationship. Not only are you getting product knowledge from 2 different skin care lines, they actually bring guest speakers from that product line to show you tips/tricks to perfect your techniques. I've enjoyed my experience here and I would encourage anyone to get a service done here! (:

I have visited Oliver Finley Academy three times in the past year. As a salon owner, I look for specific qualities. I can highly recommend the quality at Oliver Finley Academy. I have had a color change from red to blonde and then a highlight blonde, and a facial. The quality is on par with most salons (not mine, maybe, but my prices are literally 9x what they charge). Each time I arrive I have been greeted warmly and have waited only a couple of minutes. I would consider hiring a graduate from OFA once I open a salon here and I am extremely picky.

I loved having my hair done there. I have never had a time when I haven't been happy with the results. Today, I am so happy about how it looks. The student who did my hair made sure she was monitored by the instructor. The student, Yasmen. Was calm, polite, efficient and made sure everything was done perfect. I will have her do my hair next time. In addition, costs are about 75% less than any work done in a regular salon. Also, they really try to do what you want. If it is not good, they will suggest several solutions. This very rarely is necessary. I even got my daughter to get her hair done there. Last week, she had rainbow colors put into her hair.She has been happy every time.

I love that I chose to go to Oliver Finley. I feel like I got a greatest education in the basics while also learning more about advanced and newer techniques and modalities. I appreciated that there was a night program that still allowed me to work during the day. The instructors were awesome. I just recently completed the evening esthetics program, and I had an amazing time here. While evening takes longer to finish being part time, it allowed me to be with my baby during the day while still being able to be a student and take steps towards my new career at night. Completely worth it. The instructors were fantastic and have so much knowledge to share, but I have to give a shout out to Tracy for being the best instructor I could have hoped to learn from. I took Oliver Finley’s Esthetics program and it was awesome! The instructors are very knowledgeable in the field and some even have their own spas! My favorite feature is that the classes are small which allows for that extra 1 on 1 time and there are more than enough instructors to always be available for that. I’ve been going to school here since November of 2017, and it’s been one of the hardest year and a half I’ve been through and yet the instructors are very patient with you and so supportive! The cosmetology program is amazing. You learn so Much!!!!! All the instructors in all departments are the best and help you succeed! Mikki and Morgan in admissions make you feel so welcome when you enroll and it astonishes me how they remember every single person who comes through. They all make you feel comfortable here!!! It has been an absolute blast being here and making connections with clients and students! It’s sad to end this chapter in my life but I couldn’t be more prepared for my journey ahead of I didn’t come to this school.

I attended the esthetics program and I am very pleased. I actually wish the course would be a bit longer because there is so much information however my experience was great. Friendly staff and amazing instructors. Every where you attend there is going to be miscommunication maybe miss understandings but its our choice to turn a bad situation into a good situation. Great locally owned school! My family goes for hair, nail, and esthetics services regularly. The prices are great and the students are closely supervised by instructors so I feel comfortable that we always get great results. They make it very easy to make appointments with their text system. Since covid, everyone is wearing masks and they have everyone wash their hands as soon as you come in.

I’ve been going them for years, for impulse hairstyle changes. You can text to book an appointment- which rocks. All educators there are so sweet and professional. The students are so great! I would recommend booking through their salon and spa any freaking day. I’m thankful Oliver Finely exists!

Currently attending the nail program and love it! Theresa, Vern and Misty are the instructors for nails and they’re the sweetest creatures I know. I would give my left leg to start all over it was a blast and I made a lot of friends/contacts within the nail industry. This program is especially rad because it’s 600 hours vs. 400 hours at most schools in the rest of the valley. Tons of extra experience! Plus financial aid!

I’m sooo happy that I choose to attend this school bcus not only is the tuition a reasonable price but the nail kits are amazing. I choose to participate in the nail tech program and I learned so much more than I had imagined. The teachers for the program are soo much fun and easy to talk to, they treat you like adults and allow you to go at your own pace. The counselor for this school are also amazing, they are super nice and informative and really work with you and your life. My time at Oliver Finley has been primarily as a student. So here is a 2 part review since I've also had so many services done there also! 1 (as a student) - They really seem to care about their students and make as many choices possible to make the entire process of enrolling, being a student and graduating to become alumni of OFA as seamless as possible. Upon graduating I really felt prepared (nervous of course) to enter into this new field as a professional. The instructors are more than just teachers, they're actually professional cosmetologists, nail technicians, and aestheticians so no matter what program you choose to enroll in you're really getting instructed by someone who is up-to date on current trends and methods as well as teaching you the basics. 2 (as a client/customer) - When it comes to booking appointments and getting services done this is an awesome location. Because it's a school the service prices are extremely reasonable. Yes, it takes longer for just about any service at the school than if you go to a salon, but its absolutely worth any extra time. Two of the really great things about having services done at Oliver Finley is that you know you're getting taken care of not just by the student but their instructors as well so nothing gets missed, also, proper sanitation and cleanliness is a huge stress point so you never have to worry about something being not clean.

Oliver Finley was my first choice in attending Cosmetology school. From the funky music to the uplifting atmosphere, the comic strip artwork design to the alternative no uniform policy, I knew OFA was the school for me. The instuctors and administrators are a class of their own, with unique personalities and a fount of knowledge to share with students. It was the best experience I could've hoped for. I was pretty disappointed with my education in the esthetics program at Oliver Finley. SOME of the instructors were absolutely amazing, and others made it feel like they hated their lives teaching; which I think had an affect on our education. There were some positive things, we were very well prepared for our boards practical exam. But the education in general was not great. I was told if I wrote a 5 star review I would receive a free jacket from the retail items. Which I think is a little odd; bribing students with free items in order for the school to get a higher review. With the school choices in this area, Oliver Finley is definitely one of the better choices. But for the money I paid for my education I was not super impressed. And I think one of the main reasons for this is overworked instructors, and instructors that just seemed to hate teaching.

I had the best experience going to school here for the night esthetics program, and I’d do it all over again if I could. I’ve made some amazing friends and met the best instructors I could have wished for. Anytime someone asks me about my school experience, my response is always “I don’t ever want to leave.” It breaks my heart that I have to graduate, but I’m not worried because I know that this school has prepared me to the best of my ability.

I had the most amazing facial there tonight. Even though I had a student, she gave me one of the best facials I have received. She listened to what I wanted it to accomplish as well as asked me questions about my skin and adjusted her product based on what I needed. I was super happy with the results. Also, I had an appointment scheduled tonight for 5:45 and when I got there, they had accidentally forgot to book me and so I had to come back at 7:15. I was a little miffed, but really wanted my facial so came back later. As an apology for messing up my appointment, they completely comped my service tonight. So not only had an amazing facial, but they didn’t charge me at all. I did tip the esthetician that did my facial (or soon to be esthetician) because she did a fabulous job. I would highly recommend and go back there time and again!

I love coming here to get services done. The atmosphere is great and I've always had stylists who do a wonderful job. Even the teachers have always been super sweet when I've gone in for services and they are all very well educated in the industry. I believe this is the best school in Boise as far as beauty programs go and for a school they do a pretty dang good job on their services. The reason I gave it three stars is due to the the front desk. The last four, and I'm not exaggerating, the last four times I have gone in they have messed up my appointment somehow. They overbooked their stylist, it was booked with someone else I didn't request or the second to last time I waited in the lobby for 30 minutes before a random student who I didn't book with came and grabbed me. Three out of those four times they said they tried to call me but each of those three times they had an incorrect number on file. I have updated my number three times with you guys how can you tell me you still don't have the correct one? I understand mistakes happen but I live on the other side of Boise so it takes 40 minutes out of my day just to drive down here to be told I don't have an appt. I moved my schedule around at work (which is my own fault) to make my latest appointment happen so I'm pretty frustrated to say the least. As a previous student and someone who is currently in the industry, front desk can easily make or break your business. I get a free service every month for being a student (which is so awesome) but I don't know that I'll continue coming here. I hope the front desk improves because it really is an awesome school to attend and the students have always done an exceptional job.

I was really impressed with this training academy. The salon is a really nice environment. They did a fantastic job cutting my hair, despite being in the middle of growing out an a-symmetric style so I was having a hard time working out what to do next. The stylist talked through and really listened to what I wanted and now my hair looks great for the fraction of what it would cost elsewhere :) Just allow a bit of extra time as these are trainees and may need to consult a teacher if they are doing something a bit different (better that than making a mistake).

IFA offers many services for 1/2 the cost because they are a beauty school with the students performing the work. I have had many services performed over the years and I still go here when in town. I have been going to Oliver Finley for about 2 years now. I try and use the same student every time, and then when I know they are graduating, I tell them to set me up with the next best student there. The only complaint I have is that there was a time that the schedule changed and a different student did my hair. The color job was pretty good but the gum chewing and cigarette smell was awful. While my hair color was setting, I think she went out and smoked when she came back she was still chomping on her gum and smelled like an ashtray.

Past Student - I can definitely say there are some things that could have been better, both at my own expense, and that of the schools. TRUELY apply yourself, because you can cheat yourself out of so much without realizing. All and all any cosmetology program is a little hit or miss. I think there is just way to big of a student to teacher ratio and especially for those who need more help, it is hard to come by. Some things that would make the school better would be smaller class sizes, more teachers, more availability to have help when needed. More opportunity to learn side specialties like esthetics, nails, ect. I love to have my nails done by Alyssa Cooper. She has an amazing art talent. This student will go far with the talent she has. The only reason I didn't give this review a 5 star is because of the Receptionists. They need training. I made an appointment and said "thank you" and she said "ya." The correct response would be "you're welcome." I asked for and 8am appointment, if that was the 1st appointment time that is available, she said 8:30. She never told me if I could or could not do an 8am. I said "that is fine if that is her 1st open appointment of the day." She said "Ok and your first name" No conversation at all on this subject. I felt that her attitude was to make the appointment and get off the phone. I have spoken with one of the owners of this school about how the receptionists need to improve how they speak students in front of clients and how they phone etiquette needs to improve. Obviously, this was not taken to heart because the receptionists have not improved on their business etiquette. These girls would benefit from someone coming in to teach them proper phone and client manners or take a receptionist course.

I've been coming here on and off the last few years for brow waxes. Today I decided to get a facial as well as a brow wax/tint. The student I had was professional, curteous, and personable. They do take longer than usual but I'm not complaining as the girl was so amazing and so was the service. Comparable to the $40-$60 facials I'm used to paying for. The only problem was the intructor coming in to observe and talk to her about her work- she was a little more on the rude side and was grabbing at my face and telling me my routine was ruining my skin (it's definitely not.) The student even seemed a little awkward after that encounter. The ladies that checked out were also not the friendliest and make it seem like a huge inconvenience when I wanted to tip the student and they had to call her back out to get the cash. When I tipped the student she was so grateful. I asked for her card and will be coming back to see her again. This beauty college has come a long way, and their students are doing such a great job!

Went in to get a haircut, was 10 min late, waited for about 5 min and they took me in. The girl was very excited to put some layers in my hair, I've never seen anyone be so excited about hair lol she did a really good job. Will definitely be going back there!!

I've had quite a few haircuts from this place, most of which were fantastic. However, the last two I received were mediocre at best. I was skeptical about coming back after my second-to-last haircut because the stylist cut way too much off, but it still looked okay. The last haircut I got (and the last I will every get from this place) was terrible. I wanted an A-line bob. My hair was already shaped as such, but I simply wanted the back trimmed as it grows so much quicker than the front, giving me a mullet-esc style. She didn't cut enough into the side of my hair, so I asked her to trim that area to match the back. She wound up cutting a huge chunk out of the front part of my hair on only one side! I told her this and said that she would probably have to cut the back again to make up for the shorter front. She told me that would make my hair a "pixie cut." I don't see how the length of an A-line (if you know how to cut it right) could turn the cut into a pixie. I've had a pixie and they are completely different cuts. She grabbed the instructor and I told her that the front ends of my hair were uneven. She played it off like it was no big deal and no one would notice. I noticed! Me! The person who looks at this hair everyday. She offered to cut it, but at that point I was terrified they would mess it up even more and I knew I was going to have to wait another month or two to grow my hair out so I could actually get the cut I asked for so I told her it was fine. It's been a couple months and this has been the dumbest looking haircut I've ever had. Had I not cut it a little bit myself after arriving home it probably would look even worse. I've been scared to even go back to a stylist anywhere since this experience to fix my hair. It's reached a point where it is in desperate need of a trim. Definitely won't be going back here to trim it! Also, they raised their prices to $12 from $10. The Beauty Institue is only $8, though they have terrible customer service which is why I stopped going there. $12 for student work seems a bit steep, especially when the cut is nothing at all like you wanted.

I'm always satisfied whenever i go but this time I wasn't. I asked to dye my blonde ombre a natural brown color but the next day my hair looked greenish instead of a natural brown so I'm not sure what happened. I also noticed a few noticeable missed spots in my hair.

Was thow a little disappointed in the fact it was 18 per kid thought being a kid it would have been a little cheaper especially because even after waiting for drying by the time we got into the car they where all ready smugging off.
