It was so cute and clean, to start off. I got taken back right at my appt time. Letty did my nails and she did such an amazing job. The acrylic wasn’t too thick or thin, the shape is exactly what I asked for as well as the design!! Overall I was impressed with this place! I’ll definitely be coming back.

I always have a great experience at this nail salon. The aesthetic is beautiful and the techs are all meticulous. I never leave there disappointed in the quality or with crookedly-filed nails. On several occasions I’ve had techs go out of their way to do things that took extra time so that the final product was excellent. AND you can book online. A huge plus! I’ll go back again and again.

I’ve recently switched salons and let me tell you, my experience was WONDERFUL. First, the salon itself is clean and stylish. It made me feel luxurious just walking in lol They operate by appointment mostly (which I LOVE), and after I signed in I was greeted by Eily almost immediately. I went in for a fill and walked out with practically a brand new set. Eily reshaped my nails(I only wear stiletto) and they looked amazing before she even put the polish on, I was blown away! I gave her a vague idea of how I wanted my nails done and told her she can take the wheel, she was excited to be creative and it shows in her work. She puts a lot of care and love into what she does! I’ve found my new nail tech and will not be going anywhere else, she’s amazing 🖤🖤

I have used this nail salon for months and all the nail techs do a great job! They are probably one of the best in town. I love Wendy, she is very meticulous and takes her time with ensuring my nails look great. However, they are expensive and up charge for little things. My nails are almond shaped and asked for the same shape with dip. I was up charged for the almond shape, when they did nothing extra for my nail shape! If you get ANY other shape than the regular square- you will be up charged. They also charge for removing the old polish/dip. This is not fully disclosed by anyone, until of course you are finished and go to pay. I don't like that and will likely not return. When you pay nearly $70 for a dip color change WITHOUT a manicure, that is obscene. I don't want to be charged extra for what is already included in a standard nail dip. Parking is horrible as well.

I highly recommend this place! I had high expectations but was nervous since I had never been before. They were extremely nice and recommended what would fit best for my needs and wants and my nail tech hand painted these designs and it's literally a mirror image of the picture I showed her. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! ❤❤

Recently moved downtown, and sadly my previous salon is no longer convenient to me. I’d heard positive things about Basecoat on Fifth, but I don’t think I’ll be returning. Giving three stars as the salon was super cute, very clean, and had great COVID practices (hand washing upon arrival, masking required). I was also pleased that there was no wait when I arrived for my appointment. My manicurist was nice, but it looks pretty darn bad. Though he pushed my cuticles back, about 50% of my nails look grown out about a week. Also have gel all over my fingers. We’ll see how they hold up, but for $45 (tip not included) I could’ve put regular polish on at home with markedly better accuracy. Contemplating having them re-done elsewhere.

I had an Astounding involvement in my tech! She was such a lot of enjoyable to converse with and extremely sweet. She payed scrupulousness in the entirety of her work which I appreciated . This is my nail shop that I visit when I’m in a pinch. I’ve been able to call and come in for service the same day, which is nice. They’re perfect for when I cannot get to my normal salon. I always leave with great looking nails, but 3 days later, the top glossy coat begins to chip. They use a gel top coat on SNS for some reason??? My normal shop doesn’t do that, so I never deal with chipping. Besides that they look great and my tech was awesome. The salon experience overall is okay. It’s like a typical minimall nail salon cosplaying a luxury experience. The few times Ive visited, there were always two nail techs yelling at each other from across the salon. Like, this is supposed to be a spa lol. If you’re going to charge luxury prices, have the experience match.

I really really wanted to love this place. It was clean, staff was friend and great atmosphere. The day of I was really happy with the work. Unfortunately if I’m paying $40+ for dip I expect it to last more than 4 days. I went back 14 hrs after my first apt. Because one of the nails had already cracked. The owner was really accommodating & fixed that single nail. Unfortunately by Saturday I could see the other nails beginning to crack. The owner once again provided great customer service and redid all of my nails free of charge. The third time around the manicure lasted ~3weeks. 3 stars overall given that I had to go back three times for a lasting manicure.

After months of searching, I can finally say I’ve found the place that gave me perfect acrylic nails that look exactly like what I asked for. I’m OBSESSED with how my nails turned out. As for the salon itself, it is absolutely gorgeous and the cleanest I have seen out of all the other places I’ve tried. My natural nails were extremely damaged from the place I had previously been to, and the nail tech was extremely detailed and careful when working with my pitiful nails. He gave me the most beautiful set of acrylic nails that I’ve had in years. Every staff member was kind and welcoming as soon as I walked through the door. I can happily say I’ve found my new nail salon!

Best nail experience I've had. Went in with my father to get pedicures, they were very professional and accommodating. Miriam and Gabby were very precise and thorough, and very sweet and interactive with guests. I then had Ely for my full set acrylic manicure. She was extremely detail oriented and gave me the best looking matte black stiletto nails anyone could ask for, I wish I could show in pictures but the camera does no justice. Very talented and very sweet girls. I think I've finally found a salon I prefer!

First time and I got exactly what I wanted! I went for a removal of a dip powder as well as a gel manicure and was very pleased with the result. Pros: the recommendation of color (I like the popular combo of bubble bath+Funny bunny but opted for a one color because I went for gel and he advised well), the decor and cleanliness of the salon, friendliness of the staff, the attention to detail of my manicurist (a young asian I don’t know the name of). Cons: I called to make my apt and no one told me I had to wear a mask ahead of time (while in most places they currently don’t ask you to wear one) and they would charge me $3 for a disposable one, no one introduce themselves, they didn’t have+ didn’t offer water. Overall great and would come back!

Went for my first time this week for a basic manicure....winter is coming and my cuticles are ALREADY upset about it. It's clean. Super convenient to my work downtown. And Quincy was excellent. Most people in there were getting fun or big designs so I know it must be great for that. Only reason for 4/5 is because even though I made an appointment, I still waited and didn't get my manicure started until almost 40 minutes after my appointment which I arrived 10 minutes early for.

Today was my first visit to the salon. I ran over on my lunch break. The entire staff were very nice, and Abigail did a fantastic job on my dip powder manicure. The decor is so modern and clean. The salon is beautiful and the gentleman answering the phones is so nice and helpful. But my gel manicure (which took 45 minutes even with bare nails to start with) was not done well. The paint was uneven and you could see through areas where he did not apply enough. It started to come off after 1 week. Disappointing, bc the location is so convenient.

Coming from out of town I looked up some Nail Salons in the area. I walked in greeted by a friend receptionist I got Gels Done by Quincy! Hands down one of the best places to get your nails done 💅 I’ve been to a lot of places in the area and this one WAS a great/best experience!! The ladies and Gentlemen are very talented. The decor was appealing and it was very cleanI will definitely return when I am back in town. I recommend this place to anyone!

Ok, I don't even leave reviews, but I was compelled to for this place. I haven't had this thorough of a pedicure in a long time. It was a wonderful experience. I'm thinking about becoming a regular here. They were even understanding when I messed up the polish on my big toe and came back in to get it fixed. Did I mention that there's wine? Basecoat is by far THE BEST NAIL SALON IN BIRMINGHAM. I've been an on/off again resident of this city for 10 years and never have I had this experience in the city. I brought my mother (who hadn't had a pedi in years) and my little brother (who never had a mani or pedi) so it was interesting to start. Jan and Quincy were quick, professional, accommodating, friendly, personable, and did amazing work. I’m new to Birmingham. And I have found it hard to find a nail salon. When I walked into this beautiful nail salon. I was asked “What service did you need”? I said a “Full Set and Gel polish” I was told I’m sorry we don’t offer that service. I honestly felt offended I’ve never came into a nail salon that doesn’t offer Artificial Nail/Acrylic/Gel Nail Services. Honestly I was upset, but quickly understood and said Thanks and walked out. There is no sign at the salon or awareness on this listing that they don’t offer Artificial Nail service((At this time)) that’s important to know. But there’s pictures here on your listing that yet again makes me think that you all do artificial nails. Or now offer the service. I walked two blocks over from work, that day. Basecoat on Fifth is my favorite nail salon! The space is nicely designed and decorated. The high ceilings and the floor-to-ceiling windows make it feel so spacious - not closed-in and stuffy like many salons. Everyone that I have interacted with there is friendly and actually seem glad to have you there as a customer. I highly recommend Basecoat!

We walked in and had no problem being seen. We each had a glass of wine. The nail tech took her time to soak off old polish instead of just grinding it down. So much attention was paid to make sure she took care of my nails. I got a beautiful shade of red OPI gel. I love the way they look and you cannot beat the price!

Such a convenient location for the communters that work downtown. I tried this place twice. They are kind people. The quality of their work just isn't as good as other spas around town. My gel peeled the first time in a couple days after. They fixed it however. The next time, a trainee provided the most uneven gel manicure I've ever seen. It was corrected the next day as they were close to closing and it took her 2 hours to perform the bad job. A week after that gel manicure, the polish was clearly a different shade. I've never had gel turn colors after a week of wearing or at all honestly. Others I've sent here have had satisfactory experiences. Just pay attention when getting services. Best of luck to you! EDIT: I returned for the manicure offered by the owner in the response. The manicure was only done a day ago but it looks nice. The manicurist was kind but admittedthis isn't her regular salon location. She acknowledged they were short staffed so she was sent there and it was noticable the staff were unable to manage a small amount of customers. During my pedicure, 3 customers returned or called to ask to have recently done nails corrected. Sadly, that was my past experience. This was my 3rd attempt at using this salon. They just don't offer the quality of other salons in the city. The nail techs employed there desperately need a lead tech with experience to whip this place into shape. Only time will tell if this improves or the business closes.

Took my wife here last week. She absolutely love this place. Everyone is so nice! Jojo is absolutely amazing! The prices are pretty reasonable and they are very thorough with all of their services. She used to go to another nail spa that had many many locations but after finding this place I'm hooked! I'm glad she found a place near our house so I won't have to drive far.

My 2nd time at Basecoat & I don’t want to go anywhere else! Love the convenient location & relaxing atmosphere. The manager Quincy ensured that I was taken care of in a timely manner, brought me a water & even pulled my chair out which is definitely not my typical nail salon experience. My 1st visit Jan did my dip powder & it lasted for 4 weeks! I was still getting complements on them even though my nails had grown out. My 2nd visit I saw Abby, she is very sweet & funny and does AMAZING with the dip powder too, my nails are not too thick & definitely have a smooth and glossy look. I also did the classic pedicure and the tech (can’t recall her name) really took her time and gave a great leg/foot massage. You definitely get what you pay for, HIGHLY recommend.

I visited Basecoat three times while visiting Birmingham. I had a pedicure and two gel manicures. The gel manicure was a reasonable $40. I think the pedicure I got was as well, but I'm not positive. I had a different technician each visit, and all were wonderful! They were friendly as well as providing excellent work. In addition, they were great with my accompanying 2 year old.

I don’t get mani and pedis because they have NEVER been relaxing. Every business I’ve ever used, shreds my cuticles, doesn’t pamper me like I’m the customer, and overcharges me for poor quality. This was NOT the case at Base Coat! This little gem is convientely located within walking distance of both UAB and Children’s. The owner, Quincy, is super friendly, very hospitable, and extremely knowledgeable about his products. The place is sparkly clean and has a really awesome modern deco. I definitely felt like I was in a ritzy place minus the stuck up employees and high dollar price tags! I was offered a refreshing beverage and was able to enjoy my glass of red wine, while being spoiled by Jennifer, as I received, by FAR, the BEST mani and pedi I have ever received- withOUT an electric file. For a little over $100, my daughter and I both had a complete hand and foot makeovers, free beverages, awesome customer service, and really fun conversations with Kiley, Quincy, Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Monique. This is my go-to place for now on, and I plan to treat myself more regularly because I enjoyed it just that much! I’ll drive an hour out of my way (two in bad traffic)- just to go here!

Wonderful place, everything you want in a nail salon right downtown by UAB. Super nice staff, comfortable chairs, very clean (no fumes) & luxurious atmosphere. They even have padded rolling stools for the pedicurists! Great experience for $35, will be back.

My first and last visit to this nice elegant shop yesterday left me very disappointed.. My tech could of cared less about my experience there. She spent the entire time either texting on her phone or talking to her coworker who seemed annoyed by her.. The first thing I noticed with the first product she applied to my nail was sticky thick and caked all around the bottle.. The services given to my friend by another tech didn't compare to this gloppy mess i got. Yes, we got the same thing.. I really didn't know what to expect with SNS product but i did know something was off because I observed a entirely different set up for my friend. My end result was very thick gloppy unnatural looking nails.. I thought to myself this place is too beautiful and expensive to have mediocre service and old sticky products..

Everyone was friendly, the staff team spoke when needed in Vietnamese but never said anything about the clientele as some shops tend to do. It was very nice and professional. I love this place, but they do get busy. Also, they open at 9:00 but don't expect to be waited on at that time. I usually arrive at 9:30 - it's usually 9:15 before nail techs show up. So don't come here if you're in a hurry.
