My go to barbershop here. The front desk staff are always so nice, as well as the girls who give the haircuts. Everyone in there is a great conversationalist and I am always pleased with how good my hair looks comming out of there. They offer plenty more than haircuts. The massage is deep tissue and I look forward to it every month. They also offer shoe/boot shining, manicures, pedicures, and beard care, if any of those are your thing. The prices aren't as low as some big chains, but you certainly get what you pay for.

Jake's Place has been a staple since the 2000s. I started going there in 2007 because I wanted a great quality haircut, as well as all the other bells and whistles (manicures, pedicures, brow wax, massage). They cater to a male clientele and the whole place is very classy. Quality is what you're going to get here. I left Hampton Roads for over 10 years and I'm glad it is still open. Though my original stylist has been long gone, I have to give a 5/5 stars to my new stylist, Ariana. She has been taking care of all my spa needs and is always great to have a conversation with. I'm to the point now where I just sit in the chair and get an amazing haircut without having to explain what I want and this is something I value. I highly recommend Jake's Place if you are in search of quality spa services.

I have been going to Jake's Place for the about the last six years, and I have almost exclusively worked with Katrina. I would not trust anyone else to cut my hair or provide me with a beard trim. She is incredibly skilled. I don't know how she does such good work while also being so efficient. Katrina has gone from being a trusted barber to a close friend. Jake's Place is incredibly lucky to have her as a part of the team.

An incredibly specialized and individual experience. My stylist gave me an unbelievable experience where she recommended new ways to use the product I already choose, she spent 3 minutes before my haircut reviewing every aspect of my hair and asking what characteristics I like or don't like. The place also has massage therapy, foot massage, and shoe shines.

I had an awesome experience. I have psoriasis on my scalp... gross, I know. It makes me avoid haircuts like they’re the equivalent of a root canal. However, my barber whom I only know by CashApp name $kittyrawwr (seriously feel free to send her all of your money). She made me feel so comfortable, cut like 8 inches of hair off of me, and trimmed my haggard-@$$ beard. Thank you, and I’m sorry I didn’t formally ask your name, apparently I forgot my manners.

I've been coming to Jake's Place since I moved to Norfolk in 2015 and they've given me no reason to even think about looking elsewhere. It's a "men's barber shop" without feeling shoehorned or awkward about it. Just a clean, punctual, and professional establishment and they even offer a military discount, which tends to be pretty rare in this area. No matter when you go in, you're almost guaranteed to be greeted by the extremely dapper Eddie (sorry if I spelled your name wrong!) who feels pleasantly akin to a 5-star concierge. You can expect a complimentary water, tea, coffee, beer, or glass of wine while you wait. Also, in the lobby there's a fascinating selection of men's pomades, hair care essentials, solid colognes to browse through and discover something you otherwise might not have known existed. HAIRCUTS. I always get my hair cut by Sean and have never been disappointed or kept waiting. You'll get a hair wash and style with your haircut as well as a straight razor shave on the back of the neck and around the ears (with that hot towel prep we all know and love) that helps stretch another week out of any crisp fade or taper. Just remember: know how to ask for a haircut! Your barber can't give you what you want if you can't communicate what you want to them. Top length and style, sides length (as well as high, medium, or low fade), and if you want a taper or a fade accordingly. MASSAGES. I've also gotten a few massages done here. I've gone to two other places in the downtown Norfolk area and this is the superior experience by far. They have a steam room that you can use 15 minutes prior to your massage that absolutely makes the experience that much better! Oddly enough, the pricing is still on par with the other places I've gone that DON'T have a steam room, which blows my mind. I've been seen by three different masseuses and all of them have been courteous, professional, down-to-earth, and made sure they knew what I wanted out of the massage (points to focus on, different methods to get knots out, etc...). You might think that, since it's a barber shop first, that the "spa" portions have been overlooked, but that isn't the case here - quite the opposite, actually. PRO-TIPS. If it's your first time coming, just know that tips are cash-only. There's an ATM on-site that charges a nominal fee or just show up with some cash on-hand. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. The only thing that could make Jake's Place better is if I could book an appointment online, but that's just me being picky. FINAL VERDICT. If you're a guy who is particular about your hair and might want a massage as well, I highly recommend you try out Jake's Place. For the service, professionalism, attention to detail, and thoughtful touches, I give Jake's Place 5 out of 5 stars!

After 30 years, I finally found someone who could do a great job on my hair. I started going to Jake's place nearly a year ago and every time, the day after I leave, I call to tell them how great my hair looks. Everybody I know and even strangers always tell me how great it looks. Everyone at the front desk is very kind, professional and personable. You get what you pay for and Jake's is a bargain at any price.

I love this place. The staff is super friendly. Some people think it's pricey but it's also spa like service, it's not your average barber shop. I've come here for a variety of services over the years and I'm always pleased. My absolute favorite though is the hot lather shave. Well worth the $40 before an event or anything where you are going to have your picture taken.

Okay so I enjoyed getting a haircut here, my barber Gabby was sweet, friendly, and easy to talk to. If you want a place where you can talk and even develop a relationship with your barber come here, they have great service although I found it odd that a place that cuts men's hair had pretty much only woman, but that's besides the point. That being said the reason I'm giving this a three stars is because I came here for the service of a haircut, and that service well... didn't meet my expectations. A place like this I would have expected more Attention to Detail but it seems like the money is going more to nice decorations and a great floor plan, which there's nothing wrong with but they should set priorities. My barber Gabby did a decent job but when she said she was done I thought wow that was rather fast. Now she didn't mess up anything major and what not, but after I left I noticed small subtlties about my haircut that clearly show she didn't take her time to get it right, and there was no sense of style. A great barber should try and see the image of the customer and also make suggestions to make it even better for whatever look they are trying to go for. And at this point this is more about the passion that the barber has for their job and it's not that she disliked her job, but I got the sense that she was working there because there is great people and a great vibe, which there was! Again this Jake's Place has great service, great people to talk to, but as far as the actual haircut, it was decent. At least for my first time.

I've been a customer of Jake's Place for over two years now. While I have bounced around with barbers I preferred, the service was always exceptional. I've only had haircut and manicure services here, so I can't comment on the other services they provide, but can affirm that no matter who you see, you're in for some exceptional service. I've received many recommendations on products to utilize, and have been very happy with the variety. Some of the shave equipment seems priced a bit high, and I've noticed substantially lower hardware prices online. The soaps, pomades, and other hair products have had excellent price points. Upon arrival, if you are of age, you're offered a beer or a wine. They have O'Connor beers! If you don't finish your drink before you're brought back, you're allowed to bring it and drink during your session. The store is clean, welcoming, and has some exceptional decor. From waiting to sitting in the chair, all of the furniture is comfortable and really smooths out your visit from start to finish. You won't regret your visit!

Great service and haircuts! They offer massages, pedicures, and manicures, and facials all for men. Very professional and clean. I definitely recommend them if you're looking for quality service. You will probably need an appointment as they are busy. I called right when they opened on a Saturday and they got me an appointment the same day in the afternoon.

So glad I sent my husband in! We'd been talking about pedicures (he's in the Navy and his feet get pretty beat up!) so I decided to look into finding a place specifically for men. I have worked in a 4-diamond resort/spa in NV and thus have high expectations. I was excited from seeing all the previous reviews and am so happy to leave my thoughts now too! I was very delighted when I saw that Jake's Place has massage appointments. My husband is no stranger to getting deep tissue massages so I decided to surprise him with an appointment. His massage therapist, Laurie, was knowledgeable about her craft and my husband's calves/shoulders/neck are in great shape thanks to her. Booking his appointment was quick and easy, and (Donna?) was so friendly over the phone. My husband said the facilities were really nice, and from my observations, they work hard to keep the front desk and retail area looking sharp. To further note, he did get a pedicure and enjoyed that experience too! From the inviting environment, to the professionalism of the staff, I can't seem to give enough praise! Came here in search of a new place to get my hair cut, I had no idea such a poppin' place existed. It's clean, well decorated, the staff was very friendly even when the power went out for a brief moment and the systems were down. I came in without an appointment and luckily they had a cancellation. I would highly recommend setting an appointment before you come in. I enjoyed my time with my barber, Ashley. I am glad I found a new shop in the area to go to and I am very willing to make the drive and pay toll from Portsmouth to come here just for the experience again.

I have been a customer at Jake’s Place for almost 3-4 years. Whenever I get an emergency cut somewhere else, I am reminded why I always need to stick with Jake’s. The staff is very well trained and versed in all things barber. Cut, wash, dry, shave, manicure, etc. Check each barbers station, they have plaques and certifications. No joke. This place is serious about having talented and up-to-date staff. My girl is Eliza, she can do a mean fade and keep you looking fresh and modern. When Eliza isn’t available, Amanda keeps me looking great. Make sure you call a few days ahead and get a good appointment. I have never done a walk-in, and I have never waited more than 5 minutes past my appointment time. While you wait for your turn, you are offered an adult beverage, coffee, table snacks, etc. I always go for the El Guapo. Cards accepted, but tips in cash only!

Guy heaven does exist!!! I've had my haircut about 5 times now and I've worked with Amanda and Elisa. They are both phenomenal. The service is great too. I had a local beer while waiting in there comfortable waiting area. They treat you like a person and make sure to listen to what you want. I wish I had a beard to get worked on. They have military discount also.

Jake's Place is one of the best barber shops I've ever been to. I'm amazed at the quality of their work each time, and that's why I chose them as my regular place now that I'm back in Norfolk. I cannot attest to the spa services, but I'm am sure they they would either meet or exceed expectations. Prices are a bit high compared to other places nearby, but the work that they put in makes it worth the cost.

Excellent experience getting my hair cut. Clean neat place in a great location, with a very friendly staff. Beers are served in the waiting area, a comfotable lounge. They offer a variety of services beyond haircuts, which I plan to explore after such a great time. I highly recommend Eliza, as her attention to detail and level of service were second to none. This place is a Mecca. We visited for a birthday party, everyone got shaves, haircuts, and massages. 8 folks all said the same thing, wonderful. The steam room is a clutch call. The folks at the front are exceptionally friendly. Masseuse was a knight that slayed the stress dragon. Location had so many good places to eat around it. This place is a destination, definitely worth a trip.

Not a bad place but when I booked my fiancee's appointment, they never asked what he needed to get done which I thought was odd. Then when we got there he asked for a trim and a shave. The girl he had was still training to shave so she originally dais she's fine someone else. After she trimmed his hair (which wasn't great because he's African American and she cut it into a box shape), she said there was no one available to do the shaving because everyone was booked. My problem is, wouldn't it make sense to ask during the appointment call what we needed so they could adequately prepare? The girl did fine but it made no sense to me.

Shaves, haircuts, manicures and pedicures, facials and a new massage chair I have yet to try. Service is outstanding and the facility is always clean and tidy. This is not your dad's barber shop; be prepared to pay. HOWEVER, you do get what you pay for! Also, bring cash for your tip or be prepared to use an ATM located inside...no tipping on credit card charges.

She was kind, patient, informative about all of the products that she was using and even gave great suggestions on products to maintain his newly shaven face. I'm traveling through Norfolk on business and asked for a good salon, Jakes Place was the 1st on the list and I was very impressed, I simply called ahead for an appt (very simple call) for a mini facial and brow wax. I got to the salon/spa and found out it was targeted for men, though not too barbershop quartet, it looked very well put together. The friendly staff greeted me upon entering and settled me in the waiting area. 5min later was started on my services (on time). I had a great and relaxing time on the bed, and very pleased with the results. I must say that I recommend this establishment to any guy looking for high quality salon/spa services.
