November 2022: I was a bit skeptical of this place after seeing the reviews here but i still went for it and it was one of the best haircuts ive gotten. I think they have fired the problem barber and the current barbers are very patient with the haircuts and seem to be genuinely good people. Kiera was the barber who cut my hair and special shoutout to her for a good haircut. Would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a good haircut at a decent price

September 2022: Service seems to have improved. Problem barber cited in many negative reviews seems to have truly been fired based on the owner's response to those reviews and my recent experience at the shop. I'd give this shop a second chance if you were a previously negative review. Good price for a great cut (now). Cheers Jan 2022: I should've read the reviews before coming here... I've been getting my hair cut by Kirk for the last 6 years now and have always been satisfied with his level of service. He's the only one I let touch my hair! Even with inflation causing the prices to increase for services all across the board, it's still extremely economical with respect to other barbers in the immediate vicinity. Kirk is not only attentive, but remembers what each customer likes, and is a genuinely amicable individual. Over the years, I've come to grow very fond of the work he does and highly recommend him for his services.

I've tried several places in Seattle. They are my favorite. When I find a place I like, I still with them. They are my 3rd, and likely final, long term place. Kira and Kurt both are excellent. They follow my quirky, odd, instructions every time and do an excellent job. They are personable, but not obsequious or overly nice so they seem fake. Conversing with either of them is good small talk, and that's a skill. The price is the least expensive around and it's only gone up once in the several years I've been going. All their barber are good. Go there, yet your hair cut, tip well.

This place is fast, efficient and friendly. The price is right too. Parking is an issue: there's a lot but the pleasure starts at $5.00 per hour. Street parking is difficult. Was there on July 27, 2021, as the Delta variant of the Coronavirus was raging, and no one in the shop was wearing a mask...more like Florida than Seattle!

I am not good at knowing what kind of cut I want & I’m glad I got him as my barber because I have very wavy curly hair & rairly get barbers that cut my hair and give me a positive result, especially when it gets long like I had it on this occasion. I've been going to this place for years now. It's the most inexpensive haircut in the area at $19 but their skill surpasses any $60 cut you'll find in the city. Great family business, great banter. They'll really take care of you here. One barber even diagnosed my stress induced alopecia here. And I used to scoff at the notion that people used to go to barbers for medical care.

They cut my hair fine but I've had them trim my beard a couple of times and they don't follow directions very well. Both times I asked for a beard trim to have it just touched up and they butchered my beard. Come to think of it they are kind of expensive for the mediocrity they provide.

This is the only place I will go to get my haircut in college now. They always treat you with great service, minimal wait times, quick precise cuts, and every single barber in there has a great character and personality. The hair cut is also only $17 but they only take cash or check. But hey, they have been around for over 75 years so if you want to look sharp, these are the people to go to!

When I found a favorite cutter, I stuck with her and now when I come in she just asked me if I want 'the usual'. It's worth getting the same barber every time. Know what you want and communicate.

Good, fast, cheap. This ain't one of those fancy leather chairs and hot towels (and hour-long wait) luxury barbers...it's just a regular barber shop. But they down what they do well. Plus you can get in and out quickly with it costing and arm and a leg.

Traditional barber shop, in operation for at least a generation, complete with a narrow row of barber chairs sandwiched between walls of infinite reflecting mirrors. It"s not retro, it's the real thing. Diverse team of barbers who seem comfortable with a variety of hair types and styles. As with any barber shop, it's worth getting to be a regular so you and they know what to expect, visit after visit. Note that their sign and website now refer to it as University Avenue Barber Shop rather than University Ave. Barbering.
