My experience was nothing other than amazing. Donovan was able to look at one picture of a previous haircut nobody else was able to recreate just one time. Not only did he recreate it, he exceeded any and all expectations. They got me right in on time and I could tell he knew what he was doing from the start. I can't wait for my next hair cut. Donovan Wilson Gave me the best fade I've gotten in like 3 years, since I was in San Diego and had a "favorite" barber that cut me like a million times. For background, I am in the military, and have gotten my hair cut every 6-10 days for the last 10 years. Easily over 500 cuts since 2011. So trust me when I tell you, this place is the real deal. I came up to Maine from Virginia for my wedding, so I was wary about going to a place I'd never heard of before. I was instantly put at ease by the atmosphere and attitude of the staff. I'll cut this short. Go there. Just book an appointment. Show up early so you can look around and hang out. You won't regret it. Look good feel good, feel good do good, do good get paid. It's simple math, people, so pay it forward and tip your barbers, let's gooooooo.

My boyfriend got his hair cut by Donovan Wilson and his hair is incredibly difficult to do anything with and he is bar none the best barber in the Portland area! He was incredibly attentive to detail and was a good conversationalist. Chill place, chill dude! 10/10 would recommend, we’ll definitely be back!

Mark paid close attention to everything I said and gave me the best cut I've ever gotten. The atmosphere in this place is unlike any barbershop I have been to before. I have never been to a Shop as unique as Black Door. Great vibe, cuts are perfect and what a place to chill. As soon as I walked into the shop I was treated as family, and not because my brother works here. Curran has created a outstanding example of what a shop should be. Surrounding himself with hard working and extremely skilled employees. If i was able to I would only get my hair cuts at Black Door but living in Colorado makes that complicated. Honestly best experience I have ever had while getting my hair cut!! All of the barbers at Black Door are extremely skilled but I have to shout out my dude Brian Moreau. His attention to detail and professionalism contribute yet again to Curran's ability to maintain a high level of quality in his shop!

After going to countless salons and barbershops in the Portland area for years searching for a good cut, I came across Black Door and haven’t let anyone else touch my hair since Curran began cutting it in 2017, he’s that talented. His work speaks for itself, and should you choose to get a cut here I can assure you you’ll be getting compliments on your hair. I've been getting my hair cut by Curran and Jon for close to a year now. I have never had a better experience in a barbershop. Such a welcoming and friendly environment. Even my first time here, I felt like I was treated as a friend and not just as a customer. The attention detail is astounding, no long dogs left on your head, the cleanest fades around, and styling so good you'll wish you could have your hair styled by them every morning. Overall a truly amazing experience. The best dudes and barbers around.

Black Door is THE spot. My husband has been going to Curran since he was an apprentice. There is a reason why he has been following him for years. His cuts are literally second to none. Curran is the master of his craft. I love when schedules work out & I am able to go with my husband to his appointment. Mainly, so I can watch Curran’s meticulous attention to detail as he transforms hair into a work of art (and then I’m swooning over my husband’s fresh cut). My husband has also seen every other barber in the shop when Curran has been unavailable (yes, he is that booked up). I can vouch that everyone at Black Door is amazing at their craft. These guys are top notch. Big bonus that it’s a super friendly, welcoming atmosphere & parking is easy. No meters like downtown.

There is a reason these guys get booked out for weeks, cause they are simply the best around, do yourself a favor and get on their schedule! I have had my hair cut by both Curran and Jon, both are fantastic and friendly guys. The best atmosphere I’ve experienced in a barbershop by a long shot.

Let me start by saying....This is the BEST barber shop in Portland.... The atmosphere is great and cuts are always on point! Fom the moment you walk in it is evident that these guys love their art and they truly care for their customers. Jon cuts my hair and I must say his attention to detail is admirable. Best barber in all of the city, the environment is incredibly comforting and there is always an interesting conversation going on between the employees and patrons. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and all barbers will chip in on how your cut is progressing and offer assistance if needed. As I left I was told “see you in a couple months!” And after today’s experience I will most definitely be a regular patron.

Awesome place with so much to look at. The barbers are legit and you can tell they are experts in their craft. Dustin squeezed me last minute in and hooked it up with damn near the best fade I have had. He took his time and I felt comfortable and relaxed.

Great barber shop! They trimmed my beard and it looked great, everyone else there was getting really good looking haircuts. I highly recommend this shop. To give you a sense of the personally of the shop there is a rockabilly feel and they are upstairs to a sailor Jerry style tattoo shop.

I have had many barbers in my life. From my time in the Marines to moving back home. Having a squared away cut is a must! I have found that at Black Door. Granted it’s not as high and tight anymore but they have assisted me in finding the right cut that looks good on my dome. I have had nothing but a professional experience and solid customer service. It’s clean and has a comfortable chill feel to the shop. It’s nice to be treated with respect and to know your time in the chair, is your time in the chair. Bravo gents. I have followed Curran from Momentum when it was on Fore street to his shop here and for good reason. These guys know how to cut; Mark is the man. They take a lot of time and care on the haircut, so it can run about an hour per cut. This is definitely not a negative, however because the cut is always superb. Beer and water while you get a cut as well.
