I have gotten trims at Hairrari before, but recently decided to make a pretty big change. Each of the stylists post their cuts regularly on Instagram, so I was able to see their different styles and specialties. I chose Maggie for my makeover, and she was so kind, attentive, and skilled. My haircut looks amazing, while still being quick and easy to style. After basically ignoring my hair for the entirety of the pandemic, it was a much-needed refresh and I feel more like my old self than I have in a long time. Photo is by Maggie!

Such an amazing place- the stylists are really amazing and they took the time to really understand what I wanted in my haircut. I even went back to edit my style and they were so accommodating. Sydney does an amazing job with short hair! The place is clean, has a cool vibe, and I love the simplicity of booking an appointment. All around a a great spot.

Every time I’ve gotten my hair cut at the Hairrari East Village location, I’ve enjoyed the comfortable energy, the kind employees, and, of course, the excellent haircuts themselves. Alex in particular has been superb - step by step throughout the process, she checks in with you to hone in on preferred and effective details that really make the haircut feel both specific to you and objectively well-shaped. Overall, simply from being in the space as a customer and witnessing the contentment of many other customers, I can confidently say that Hairrari’s commitment to nurturing true identity and acceptance is not only in their mission statement, but fully present in their approach and actions. Highly recommend!

I got my haircut here about two weeks ago and I've been getting compliments on it ever since. I had curly hair and didn't really know what I wanted to do with it for the longest time. I gave Alex just a few rough idea of what I wanted and she did better than I could have imagined. I recommend you book with her if you have curls too. As long as she's there I'll definitely be coming back!

I went to HAIRRARI and MAGGIE styled my hair…. Loved it! The environment is super friendly, relaxed yet super professional. Maggie is a great hairdresser who understood what I wanted and cut my hair just the right way. Not too much or too little like it happens almost every time somewhere else! Lived up to the hype! I went in for a makeover cut and I couldn’t have had a better experience. Alex really took her time and continuously checked in to make sure I liked the cut. The staff at the front were so supportive. They helped take before and after photos, compiled them, and sent them to me after. My sibling came with me and they were allowed to hang out in the tiny waiting area without issue. Lastly, the prices are so reasonable considering we’re in NYC. Ready to go back for my next cut!

I’ve had some amazing haircuts here from Magda, Kendra, and Steve. Chill atmosphere, you can be yourself and look good at the end! Walk-ins are no wait during the week (haven’t tried weekends), although I book ahead most of the time. Their website has bios of the staff, which lists the hair styles and techniques they specialize in. And the owner has a pair of relaxed fit leopard pajama sweatpants, keep an eye out for them if Magda is there 🤣

Heath has done my highlights & brought my hair to a lovely dimensional light brown. I've gotten compliments on it ever since. The color has stayed fresh for months. Will absolutely keep going to him. Hairrari is a kind, inclusive, & uplifting space. If you feel nervous at salons, this place will keep you at ease.

This was honestly the best cut of my life — and all thanks to Alex. It was my first haircut since coming out as trans and my hair went from all the way down to my hips to VERY short. But it was the most gender-affirming experience (Alex was gentle, assuring, supportive, and so talented) and I just felt like a million bucks after (okay, maybe a billion with inflation). Thank god a place like this exists for the queer community. But it would be equally good a place for haircuts if you’re not part of the community, because the stylists there are just so talented!

Heath is absolutely incredible! He was able to turn my virgin black hair to burgundy/red without using any bleach (per my request). I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he was able to color match it perfectly. He truly has an eye and talent for color!!! Prince was kind, gentle, and detailed. They asked for feedback a couple times during the cut, and took into consideration my questions and requests. I also liked the gender neutral approach to haircuts at this salon. A comment on the cost - I'm used to a lower price point but I don't know enough about this area's market to be critical about the cost. May not be affordable to for LGBTQ folk with less disposable income IMHO. I was glad to support a LGBTQ-friendly, women-owned business though.

Maggie lived up to the hype I had been generating in my mind for her. Visiting from Louisiana. Before arriving I Googled stylists in NYC for days, from celebrity stylists to old time barbers to find the one I thought best suited to handle my newly image conscious pre-teen son who has hated every haircut he’s ever gotten. He was in fact an exceptionally rude butthead through the whole process- ugh- Regardless, Maggie maintained professionalism and delivered an amazing curly cut for him and included some tips on keeping his curls looking sharp. His hair turned out great. My only regret is I wasted the cut on him when it should have been me in the chair- next time. I can’t say enough good things about Maggie as a stylist and I loved the feel and vibe of the whole place. Will definitely be a regular stop on any trip I make to NYC in the future.

my second time getting a haircut here :) i grew out my hair super long and i've never gotten my hair bleached before! i booked with heath who is an absolute sweetheart. he texted me prior to the appointment since i wanted to get a specific bleach placement & broke down the pricing for me, as well as what to expect. at my appointment, we went over what cut i wanted and the bleach placement just so we were on the same page. he was super transparent, really easy to talk to, and was checking on w/ me through out the haircut + the bleaching. it was very painless for me tbh!! my hair looks and feels very healthy (yes i know bleaching your hair is very damaging but my hair looks great despite that plus we used olaplex to reduce the damage) and it is honestly the haircut of my dreams. i have had the same hair for so much of my life, it is so amazing and transformative how just some bleach and a cut can do for your body image and self esteem. i joked w my friends & family that i was gonna get a new personality after this haircut, but actually it's true!! heath is a real life magician <3 thank you heath!!!

I saw Dustin for color in the East Village location, and I cannot rave enough. The Hairrari space very clean and safe -- with a super welcoming (and cute!) receptionist taking your temperature before entering, and everyone in the store wearing masks the entire process. Though I did not personally get a cut in this visit, I was impressed by how seamlessly the barbers handled helping their customers leave on their mask while trimming around the ears. The staff was friendly and easy to talk to. Dustin did an amazing job talking with me about my hair history, finding out exactly my desired color and educating me on the proper upkeep after my lightening. I really appreciated how quick and efficient he was: in the past when I had my hair bleached, the colorist was not nearly as quick, and I feel that artificially drove up the price. I felt the Hairrari price was reasonable and incredibly worth it. Dustin was so sweet, fast and delivered a beautiful color with exactly the tones I wanted. I will definitely be back!!

I just moved to Brooklyn in September and haven't had much luck finding a barber/hairdresser that I liked. A friend suggested Hairarri so I booked with Alex and it's one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten! I've got a lot of curly hair and an undercut, so it doesn't feel like I've got the easiest hair to deal with. She made sure my undercut line was straight and then gave me a dry cut for curly hair. (I only just stopped heat styling, so this was truly life changing!) Then washed and styled everything. 10/10 would recommend!

I've been on the search for a barber that made me feel welcomed but also makes me comfortable. I finally found it here. Alex not only gave me one of the cleanest haircuts ever but she took her time to explain it all and I finally have a great understanding of my style and how my hair grows. This was perhaps one of the best haircuts I've ever received and have been recommending Alex and Hairrari to anyone that'll listen. The only minor inconvenience I had to deal with is that the cape kept falling off during the haircut and I unfortunately had to deal with hair in and on my shirt on my walk home. Well damn, they know what they are doing. Steve rocked an amazing fade for me. Literally I went from like a 5.5 to, at the very least, a solid 7. The only warning I would give is that you will get a massive ego boost when you leave from how good your fresh cut looks. I live in Vermont and low key would send it back here just so Steve could make me look like a super model again. 11/10 will be sending it back there.

Kendra cut my hair this past week, and this is literally the best haircut I have ever received. I am trans so finding a salon or barber shop to cut my hair short is incredibly difficult. For the last 4 years I have been doing it at home, too afraid of the dreaded layered bob or pixie cut. I decided to check out Hairrari and I am overjoyed at the result. The staff were amazingly kind and great to talk to after a year of quarantine. The shop is small and clean, so it was nice and cozy. The shop music was great. Kendra continuously checked in with me to ask what direction I wanted to take the hair cut, and even gave me a shape up. I even bought some of their styling wax, and while it cost more than the store bought stuff, it will last me years, and is the perfect quality. For the first time ever I'm excited for my hair to grow out so I can get it cut again. 10/10 worth EVERY penny.

It was my first time at Hairrari and I’ve been looking for awhile for a good place to get my haircut. My barber was Kendra and she did a freaking fantastic job. She guided me thru her process and told how she has been cutting hair for 8 years before moving to NYC. I’m usually nervous whenever a new barber cuts my hair but I felt I was in great hands. Dustin is an amazing barber and colorist. My natural hair is dark (essentially black) and I have a lot of it. I came to him with an uneven coloring job from a previous stylist who tried to bring me to platinum blonde. In two sessions (a month apart), Dustin was able to fix my hair and get me to my goal very light color- no easy feat, considering what we started with. He is professional, patient, and meticulous. He is also skilled in color corrections and dramatic blonding. Additionally he did a great job cutting my very thick, wavy, and coarse South Asian hair. I cannot recommend him enough. Be aware that drastic changes like what I went with will likely involve multiple appointments and cutting hair off! It is so worth it though. Edit; Just wanted to add to my praises. My hair is now a sick pastel pink color thanks to Dustin’s magic. Thanks Dustin! But also, I just wanted to compliment the customer service here, especially for owner Magda. There was an issue with confusion with my payment deposits and Magda was very patient with me as we tried to figure out how I overpaid and how much I needed refunded. It took a lot of time but she was so professional and wonderful as we tried to navigate everything. And in the end it all worked out. Many places will not take the time to understand your concerns so I really respected this.

I made an appointment with Nick at Hairrari Barber-East Village and had mission-- to chop off 12 inches of hair! The staff met me at the door and greeted me with smiles, face masks and a forehead thermometer. I really appreciate the precautions the shop took to maintain a safe indoor environment. Nick and I got to work fast, where the only time I took off my face mask was when he asked to see my full face to get a good idea of my ideal haircut. I absolutely appreciate a professional using his understanding of face shapes to pinpoint a hair style that would most flatter mine. Nick asked lots of questions about what I wanted, and I could tell that he was listening. The hair cut that we came up with was a first in execution for him, but he was extra careful with the scissors and took lots of dedicated direction from his boss. I wasn't ever nervous about the scissors snips, because the guy making them was intent on doing a good job. Nick was friendly and honest. He even asked if I preferred to be called "Kim" or "Kimberly," which was nice to hear, since most people take it upon themselves to use the shortened version of my name. This further highlighted Nick's goal of creating a comfortable appointment for me and catering to my wants and needs. And my hair turned out great! I am so glad to have discovered Hairairi Barber- East Village. It's a small style shop that's big on friendly, helpful folks who make it their mission to make others look their greatest.

Going to a barber is beyond the haircut itself, it is also the experience during and after the cut. The experience at Hairarri is THE best experience NYC has to offer. Being someone who deals with anxiousness when getting a haircut, my stylist Devon made me comfortable the entire time. They frequently asked how I was feeling while also making me feel excited about how the cut was turning out. Devon was also very intricate with detail, making sure everything was exact and for the first time ever my haircut came out exactly how the picture looked. If you are looking for an experience that will follow you long after the cut itself, I demand you come here. I came in very nervous after a year and a half of buzzing my hair at home, and I clearly made Dylan nervous too. I also received two really important phone calls while I was supposed to be in the chair and kept interrupting him, I was definitely not a great client. Dylan was very patient and kind, but didn't lie or cover the fact that I wasn't treating him properly, which I appreciate. He offered to reschedule, but I don't get a lot of chances to get out by myself. On top of all that, I freaking love the cut he did on me, it was really subtle and it's washed out great. I want to leave a review for Jordy, who is a new colorist at Hairrari in East Village. My hair was a mess from pandemic box dye and a washed out dye job. Jordy saw through all this and did miracles with my hair. A couple of days before she contacted me to hear about what I was looking for, leaving several messages until she reached me. Jordy did a shadow root in a beautiful plum color and were able to bleach my hair and dye it into a bright red. Strangely enough my hair does not feel damaged after. It is easily the best dye job I ever had. I then got a haircut by Maggie, who was equally great. We had a discussion about masculine and feminine haircuts, and how hairstylists are taught binary thinking throughout their training. Maggie was able to inject enough "masculine" cutting techniques into my hair for me to feel comfortable, which almost never happens. The whole hair salon has a great atmosphere, and customers younger and older were treated equal and left happy. Thank you for your professionalism and showing how the work is done.

Dustin has been cutting and coloring my hair for almost 10 years now. He's amazing at both, but especially color/bleach. I've had it pretty much every color of the rainbow from neon pink to almost black and no matter what he takes the time to make sure the damage is minimal and that I always have soft shiny hair at the end of the day. In the last year I've also developed a bit of an allergy to color, so he takes extra care to make sure to prevent any reaction. Hairrari as a salon is also really fun, all the staff there are friendly and its a welcoming space. I'm also impressed by the covid safety precautions they've taken and was definitely comfortable getting my color done there this month.

Love this place, been here twice already and got the best haircuts I've ever had. It's hard for me to gauge price bc I'm so used to the cheaper cuts in Queens (which aren't bad) but I love going here and knowing I'm going to leave liking what I have. I used to go to Dramatics, but I was constantly irked by the way hair stylists like to manipulate you into liking your haircut by saying how much they like it and you feel like you have to agree until you leave and realize you're not that into it. I went here and left slightly disappointed. The staff was nice and attentive and the woman that cut my hair seemed skilled, but she didn’t have a round brush, which meant she couldn’t give me the cut I needed. As a guy that likes to style my hair with a blow dryer, I was a bit frustrated because we weren’t able to blow out my hair the way I like it in order to check that the cut worked for my style. This all because none of the stylists had a round brush. When I styled my hair once I got home, the volume distribution was a bit off and it didn’t look too great. My advice: don’t come here if you have a slightly more complicated men’s cut.
