I am in Burton, Michigan which seems to have a huge selection of barbers and hair salons and no one here could get my hair right! So whilst on vacation in NYC I stopped in here for a cut. Glad I did. Yesterday I got a haircut at a barbershop chain around Flatiron. The person who gave me that first cut butchered the long hair I had growing on top and they could not properly fade my sides leaving uneven streaks and patches. I was thinking that no one could fix it given how short the first person cut it but I found this place after looking up barbershop nearby my office and I am so happy I did. I called ahead to make an appointment (it's just walk-in) and was reassured that if I come in they'll do what they can to fix my hair. I'm going to have to spend a few months re-growing my hair up top but a big thank you to Robert, he fixed up my sides (plus it's the way I originally wanted it done at the other place now). I have found my new go to place for haircuts!

Best barbershop I’ve found in NYC. I refuse to let anyone cut my hair except Steve at Fifth Avenue. Super convenient location next to the Empire State Building and Macy’s if you’re stopping in midtown and need a fresh cut. The price is super affordable, Steve always does a good job, and I’ve never waited more than a few minutes to get in the chair.

Hands down the best barbershop in midtown. Best in class skin fade and incredible customer service to go along with it. Right near Macys, Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, and Penn Station, you’ll be hard pressed to find a barbershop where your dollar stretches further. With my office near Bryant Park, this location is perfect for a quick lunchtime or post-work cut. Fantastic place this one!! If you're a guy looking to get a cheap and quick hair-cut at any point of the day for less than 25$, this is the place. It's highly economical without compromising on quality. I've come here for a hair cut and I've also come here for a beard trim and haven't been disappointed on either occasions. As indicated on their website you can get a beard-trim done for as low as 10$ which is a steal. There are usually 4-5 barbers available at any point of time so wait-time is pretty low. Note that this place doesn't take reservations. Great customer experience while keeping it simple. Brilliant !!

Great price. The warm shaving cream and razor blade to the back of my neck were excellent. Hard to find good barbers in the city, right here in the Herald Sq area. These barbers were superb! This barbershop is definitely the best I've been to due to its consistently. I come in once a month and their haircuts are always spot on. Steve usually cuts my hairs and he already knows what I usually get as soon as I walk in. The wait time is also usually minimal, if there is any wait time. Everything is swift and on point. The price is also fair (if not cheap) for the quality of the work. Overall, I would definitely recommend this barbershop.

I've been going to this place for about a year now, started going on my lunch break. I have a slightly different haircut than most of the men that walk through their door (essentially a mohawk although I never style it that way) and they're always very receptive as to the cut I'd like on that given day. Solid haircuts at a reasonable price, at least for Manhattan. I am not a fan of the assembly line system and have never gotten the same guy to cut my hair twice, but I'm sure you can ask to wait for someone if you realpy want to. They are quick, like in and out in 10-15 minutes, max, on even a busy day.

The staff is friendly and very efficient. The atmosphere is great and relaxing. Great place to get a good haircut under 20 bucks. For me it's usually not very easy to describe what haircut I want exactly. Nevertheless they always get it right. And, if you need an advice, they would suggest you a haircut.

Just moved up to the city in August... & was making the trip back down to DE monthly to get a haircut because I love my barber back home. One day, before heading out of town on a flight in the evening, I had to get a haircut. My only opportunity was to sneak out at lunch. This place happened to be conveniently close and gave it a shot. Ended up getting a great haircut, similar, if not better, to the one I get at home. I will be going back here next month. I found my new barber in the city. Give it a shot you won't be disappointed. I went to the chair furthest to the left. He was Greek.

TL;DR Try a haircut (seemed ok from what I saw of others) but pass on the shave unless you like your face getting cut a bunch. I want to preface that I came in here for a shave, so take what I say with a grain of salt as I imagine that they are better at cutting hair. Initially I felt the shave was going well and that I was basically being treated to a luxury I normally wouldn't indulge in; honestly the price was a tad high but I didn't care as I just wanted to treat myself. Immediately after I stepped outside I felt the cold wind rip at the innumerable cuts that were left on my face from the shave. I know every now and then I might cut myself shaving but I've never cut myself that many times (over a dozen distinct cuts). I'm probably not going to return here, mainly because I'm not from the area, but also from this experience.

I've been coming here for years and never had a problem. The guys are friendly and accept everyone. Prices are reasonable compared to other places. If you don't know what haircut you want, then go there with an open mind and they'll suggest something for you. Become a regular and they'll treat you like V.I.P., at least that's how they make me feel. If you're not sociable, then come in and relax while you get a cut, if you like to converse they're that friendly to hold a convo with you. They're educated barbers with skills from scissors to buzzers, even hair washing if you wanted. NYC don't take it from me, try it for yourself and see, Fifth Avenue Barbers is the place to be!

My last review from was 2012, and the one I'm giving now has not changed one bit. I've been going to this Barber Shop since the day Steve opened up. It's by far, hands down, the best cut I have ever gotten and with a great price of $16; it is a no-brainer! I work down in the Financial District and commuted back to Long Island every day and would still make it a point to go for a cut here at least once a month (would even come all the way in to NYC from LI on the weekends to get a cut). Now that I'm living in NYC, it's even easier, especially being so conveniently located by Herald Square, with the convergence of multiple Subway lines. The couple times I came by for a haircut when Steve wasn't there, I let his other Barbers take care of me, and they're on point as well. It's an all-around great Barber Shop, and I'd recommend this to every guy that is looking for a truly sharp cut, and for the best price you're going to find in NYC.

I have to concur with all the other reviewers. I've tended to stay away from barber shops over the years, maybe because I've hoped I'd get a more hip, fashionable cut at salons. But I needed to find a new place and stumbled across this shop, and they went above and beyond anything I would have expected for the price. Ilena gave me a great cut-- she really took her time on it and did right, and then finished off my neck with a straight razor and warm shaving cream. The atmosphere was laid back and comfortable and I didn't feel rushed at all. And, honestly, they could be charging a lot more. I will definitely go back.
