I have been going to Josef for nearly 15 years now m. I just recently went there and he cut off about 6 inches of hair. I could go to salons and higher end barber shops with a bunch of cool tattooed guys with peaky blinder haircuts but Josef is a better price and honest and humble when it comes to figuring out how you want your hair to look. I often bring him reference images and if he doesn’t think it’s going to look good on me he suggests other options. I was elated to find that he was still going after the pandemic, so if you need a haircut with a great experience check this place out.

As long as I live in NYC, I'll continue to visit B&H. Without a doubt, the best barbershop in the East Village. Even if I lived in a different borough, I would still come down here. This is how dedicated I am. If you find a decent barber, you stick with him or her. It takes some practise for them to get your hair precisely how you want it. Remain loyal to your barber.

Since I moved into this house a few of years ago, I've been going to the other barber in my former neighbourhood out of devotion. Sadly, he shut down because of the epidemic, so I finally got to experience B&H. The barbers here are professional and attentive, and the store is quite clean. When I told my barber what I wanted, I could tell he was really paying attention. He truly attempted to understand exactly what I was looking for, and he came fairly close the first time, but it didn't feel like a clear-cut experience. He improved it the second time. In any case, I'll be back.

Best barbershop in the east village. I can vouch to all the other reviews, these guys are great. This is an excellent classical barbershop. They can do anything you want, even beard trims. And they do it all well. I’m glad its just down the block from me. Woo! Finally have a barbershop I can fully depend upon.

My main issue with most barbershops is the unwelcoming atmosphere they create when you enter. You don't know what order you're in, no one says hello, and everyone is preoccupied with their own conversations. After waiting for a while, you inquire and are informed that they only accept appointments. Not at B&H, where I received a prompt greeting and an accurate wait time estimate. The barber was incredibly accommodating and attentive to my needs. I'm writing this review since I was very happy with my experience there. all positive.

One of the few things in New York City that is genuinely inexpensive. A $25 haircut is incredibly affordable in the city. I can't claim that the $60 haircut I used to get from my neighborhood barber was any better. All of these men are skilled and produce excellent work. I'm relieved I can still afford a haircut since I recently lost my job. To find another one, I'll need a brand-new cut. I'm very grateful that some urban locations are still reasonably priced.

I've been visiting here for a few months, and before this one, I visited more than ten other barbershops in the East Village. I genuinely believe I've found the one. Every trim has been awful. I don't have to wait long for a walk-in, but I think I'll start booking appointments once I choose my barber. So far, there have been no complaints about any of the barbers. Just trying to find the ideal fit before I commit. However, B&H is the only barbershop I will use from now on.

amazing, spotless barbershop The barbers constantly say it would take five minutes, but I wind up waiting thirty minutes. I detest standing in big lines. When I arrived to B&H Barbershop, I was promptly seated, and the haircut was completed quickly and without much small talk. If I'm being honest, I like silence better.

The proprietor was very friendly and provided excellent service in addition to a wonderful haircut. When you enter, you get the sense of being in a little town, which is rare in New York City. I have been going to Steve at B&H for well over a year now and couldn't see myself going anywhere else. I am very particular about my haircut and Steve was able to gain my trust from the start due to his quick understanding of what I was looking for. After the first few cuts, I no longer even needed to tell him what I needed as he remembered instantly. Outside of that, I have experienced in the past many instances of barbers running late and needing to wait up to an hour past my scheduled appointment. With Steve, he is very respectful of all of his client's time and I have never had this unpleasant situation since going to him. B&H barbershop is where you go for quality haircuts that are still affordable with a personal touch. I personally have been going to Steve for the last year and can't compliment him enough. He takes his time, care, and listens to what you want. I get skin fades and have pretty difficult straight hair to cut but Steve does an amazing job every time. Straight fire cuts. The whole barbershop is cool too. Everyone is friendly, they get to know you and is the epitome of a neighborhood barbershop.

The barbershop is unexpectedly excellent, spotless, bright, and has lovely trees and plants at the front. I truly appreciate how quickly I was welcomed and given a wait time. I've been known to simply sit and wait for someone to notice me. The sides were short, and the top had a combover, which was as good as I could have hoped for. Excellently professional appearance. Best haircut I’ve received in a while. And it’s been a while because my last barber messed up my hair and I grew it long. So this barber did a great job on long hair and it’s still a good length. I can't stress enough how great B&H barbershop is; don't waste your time going somewhere else. Surprisingly, not all barbers care as much about hair, but these guys do. It was really getting unruly, but he also hates haircuts. The nice barber at this shop was super kind to my son and was patient with him while he was squirming around in his chair. Without a doubt, B&H is the neighborhood's top barbershop. I've tried some of the alternatives, and I get the impression that the barbers aren't eager to work there. I had a nice conversation with my barber, and B&H and the barbers both appear to genuinely care. I followed his advice and left feeling like a completely different person. I was quite pleased to find that the barber gave me a hazy fade that was just as I like it—no line, just a smooth gradient. Barbers in Usbeki can cut excellently!

So i thought I had been getting a decent haircut until I was schooled by Joseph. He took the time to show me where the last Barber had made mistakes and asked me each step exactly how I wanted my hair cut. He isn't just a barber, he is an Artist that cares greatly for his craft. I've been searching for the right barber since mine retired about a year ago and it hasn't been easy but I think I finally found the right person. Also one of the least expensive places around. Oh and if you like whiskey he has that also included with the service. Great place. Awesome vibe. 😁.....9/30/20..just a little update and some new pictures. I've been going to Joseph now for almost a year and have never been disappointed. Each time my haircut looks better than the last. If you need someone who will listen to how you want your hair done and then sculpt your hair exactly how you want it then you need Joseph. Best prices and best barber in NYC!!!

For the past two years, I've been growing my hair out. I had previously visited B&H, so returning with two years' worth of growth was a true reunion. I'm glad this barbershop is still going strong, but it's not surprising. The owner is a wonderful, friendly, and honest person who truly cares about his customers. I'm not sure I could do it, but he does it every day. It was difficult to see my hair fall out, but I've decided to donate it. Walking without an appointment at around 2p on a Tuesday. Casual day with normal volume. First time here I was taking in by Steve. I told him what I wanted and he blended me perfectly. Faded with a blend, shaped me up nicely with scissors and machine. Steve did a better job than the guy I had almost 2 weeks ago. I will definitely be coming back to see him. Prices are marginal. $29 for the cut. We're living in a recession, no more $20 cuts unless if you go somewhere Brooklyn or the Bronx, well worth the money.

I’ve had Joseph cut my hair three times now, and I’ve been impressed each time. Joseph is a masterful barber. You will not be getting a cookie-cutter hair cut here. Everyone’s hair is different (head shape, thickness, hair pattern, etc.) and Joseph definitely takes this into account. He takes his time to make sure the cut is perfect each time. The consistency and the quality of the haircuts kept bringing me back to this shop even though I live 35 to 40 minutes away...not to mention, the price can’t be beat ($23 for a cut, $28 for cut/wash). If I lived closer, I’d frequent the shop more often. Would highly recommend.

No one has really nailed my beard but my barber at B&H. It is always too short, or the shape doesn’t match my head. My barber really gets it. Pro tip- find a barber who also has a beard. It seems to be a whole different craft that a lot of barbers aren’t really trained on. Give B&H a try.

Mixed experiences but overall great place for the price. I’ve been here 3 times- the 1st I came at my appointment time, checked in with the barber, and then the barber continued to smoke a cigarette outside with his next customer (or friend) for 5 minutes. He then walked back inside and cut the guy’s hair and I got seated 30 minutes after my appointment time which was disappointing. 2nd time was great but the card machine didn’t work so I had to pay a fee to use their ATM. 3rd time everything was great and really enjoyed. Will be coming back.

I called on a Friday late morning and they fit me in 30min later. Joseph was super professional and did a great job explaining what he was doing and what my options were (e.g. round, square, or tapered on the neckline, which would give me a bit more time before needing another cut). He wasn't bothered when I asked for a 1/4 inch shorter after his first time around, and he offered to thin out the top of my thick hair to keep it less poofy and more compliant for my date night that night. The price was also fantastic. I loved his approach and even learned a bit about his history and family. I will return to Joseph in a heartbeat next time I'm around.

I am very fastidious when I get hair cuts and paid 70-80 dollars for haircuts for many years before I found this place. It’s not an exaggeration to say the quality of haircuts here is better than anywhere else I’ve been but for just 23 dollars—and on top of that Joseph and the staff are very warm and friendly and they even offer you drinks (and whiskey if you are over 21). Couldn’t recommend more highly.

I’ve gone to this barber shop 3 times now (walk ins) and left happy each time (note that they do prefer appointments). My hair is thick and I usually prefer to have tapered / slightly faded sides / back with more mass left on top separated with a hard part. Two of the barbers that have cut my hair so far (Beck and Jonny) didn’t have a problem delivering. Given that a good haircut in most other places in the east village / LES will provably cost $40-$50 before tip, this place is definitely worth checking for a solid yet cost- friendly ($20 before tip) haircut.

Not B&H, they have prices that make me want to come back. But price isn’t everything, the service was second to none. He listens to what you want and provides details on what he will do so you know exactly what the end product will look like. He does long or short hair and plenty of different styles - my hair cut requires extra detail and he does not skip anything. His new place is awesome - large spacious and bright - which he designed himself and is very fitting! The other workers there seem nice as well! I recommend you always make an appointment if you want Josef as he is always busy which is expected given his skills with a scissor! When living in East Village found this place via Google Maps. I get my haircut done by Jay and he is the man. Professional, quick, great service, and you can’t beat a $20 price tag unless you wanna go to one of the generic Chinatown barbershops. Be sure to book an appointment or walk in during off-peak hours because it will get packed. Joseph is the owner and they have other barbers too. I’d definitely recommend Jay!

Not knowing anything about where to go for a barber, I saw the signature bright spinning barber shop sign outside and thought I’d give it a try. All the guys are great - Joe, Alex, and Jay. When I walked in I was greeted with an energy that made me feel these guys were going to take care of me. My first haircut ever from B&H was by Jay. Jay is a talented barber that can execute the look you want. I have had bad experiences with barbers in the past who do not know how to properly cut thicker, curly hair. I told him the look I was shooting for, and he hit the nail right on the head. I’ve been going to B&H for six months now, and what keeps bringing me back isn’t only the fantastic haircut. It’s because of the guys in there, specifically Jay. If you take the time to engage with Jay and learn his story, he’s a very interesting, great guy. Jay also makes a point to learn about you and your background. He genuinely cares, all of them do. If that wasn’t enough - one night I was walking home after a day out on the town, and I came across B&H throwing a party for their 1st anniversary since their opening. While I was walking by, Jay ran out of the party and grabbed me, & then served me some of the best whiskey I’ve had in a long time. B & H Barber Shop is a very welcomed addition to the neighborhood. There were no corners cut when the shop was designed: the heavy-duty chairs are of high quality, the full-length mirrors are angled perfectly, and the feng shui complements the spacious expanse. I prefer to call and schedule an appointment, but if you prefer to drop-in, feel free to have a complimentary coffee or beer while waiting. The price is competitive so why not give it a shot? I have, and it has made for one less thing to worry about.

GREAT SHOP! The barbers here are really talented and do a professional consultation with you BEFORE they cut your hair. I alternate between the two barbers here and have always LOVED my cut. They start off asking you about how you maintain your hair, and how you like your hair cut, if you have pictures, etc. Seems simple but too many barbers don't do this thoroughly and your left feeling disappointed with lackluster results. As a walk in I've never waited more than 10 mins, until I discovered they have a online appointment system (DEF DO THIS)! The space is large and masculine - lots of seating and have refreshments for free while you wait (water, beer, alcohol, chocolates - really no way?!). Coming here will feel like you've entered a men's only spa retreat in LES - at affordable prices! The reviews here speak for themselves - TRY IT!

neighborhood barber transforming the unshaven & uncut into gentlemen. modern open layout with nods to the classic NYC barber shop. there's a good amount of seating if you have to wait. superclean and tidy shop. lots of natural sunlight. there's some complimentary beverages for customers. typically there are 1-3 barbers here. i never come here if there's a wait bc i'm impatient. however waits aren't typically too long. however cuts, shaves, etc. are not sped through...the shop takes their time to make sure you're looking sharp. i've been here twice and i was happy with both cuts i got. a regular haircut used to be $17... it's gone up to $20. $20 is quickly becoming the norm now in the East Village. you can get wash, shave, etc. as well for more obviously. the staff is pleasant, not too chatty. drops mic cuz i'm in the cut

I can't stress enough that B&H Barbershop is the finest choice in the area. I've gone to a sufficient number of the local barbers to feel confident in my choice. It's reasonably priced, and some of the more upscale establishments really offer superior haircuts. I think any of their barbers are a good choice, and I truly appreciate this shop. The owner picks them well, and it's obvious he runs a tight ship. I'm so thrilled there's one reliable location. Considering how many seats are filled, I have faith that they will survive the pandemic.
