First Time Visit: 10/10 Barber: Larry Highly Recommended 12 Pell has been on my list to visit since first hearing about them on Tik Tok and Instagram. I liked the idea of getting a haircut tailored just for me rather than a generic “cut & go” experience. I’m in the process of growing out my hair and needed advice for how to cut and style my hair to bring my vision to fruition. Larry did a great job recommending a cut based on how my hair naturally grows. He mapped out how we would allow my hair to grow in certain areas while keeping the sides short with a low fade. It turned out great! I felt at ease with the process and I liked the level of communication between me and my barber. The shop has a nice vibe to it as well. They have a selection of hair care products available in the shop for purchase, it is well lit and organized. 12 Pell is highly recommend and well worth the trip downtown. I will be back soon!

You will get a good cut if you come here. Don’t worry about getting a bad haircut because from what I’ve seen and experienced you won’t get that. I booked the consultation with scissor cut with Peter. I have a long midpart that was always awkward because of my previous barber but after coming to Peter 3 times it has actually grown out properly each time. It looks nice and the proportions are just how I want them. Peter gave me advice and answered all my questions regarding hair during the process. It’s honestly a great feeling that I don’t have to feel anxious during haircuts anymore because I know Peter got me. Also, If you care about every single little detail, make sure to remind them. People aren’t robots so you can’t expect them to remember every single thing. For example on my sideburns I prefer them to be pointy shaped instead of square shaped and I got them squared off last time. Should’ve reminded them because I’m very picky but it’s okay ! Not a deal breaker or anything because the cut still looked nice. I need to make sure to remind them next time is all. With all of that being said though, it does come out to be pricey (in my opinion, I’m a broke college student aha) scissor cut is $80 with Peter. So if you can afford it, it will be worth it. These young, enthusiastic, and happy gentlemen won’t let you down. (Attached image is a picture of me about a week after I got a scissor cut from Peter)

Thinley is one of the most thorough and caring stylists I've ever met. He is very honest and knowledgeable about hair, and he's not afraid to tell you what he thinks would be best for you. I usually have to visit two places due to my unique hair type and the type of styling I'd get. Thinley is good with the scissors and he can do fades. I think he just gave me one of the best fades I've ever had compared to most of the Dominican barbershops I've been in. Mind you, I come from Corona where it's a pre-dominantly Dominican neighborhood so I've had almost every fade you can think of; however, these Dominican barbershops around me can't cut or style Asian hair the same way. If you're wondering where you should go, don't hesitate to come here. I regret not going to Thinley for my first haircut after two years from the pandemic. My haircut already came out the best it possibly could've today, but I'm sure it could've been even better if I had given Thinley more to work with. It was totally my mistake for not finding this place sooner and letting someone else chop off all the hair I grew during this pandemic. Now I have to wait for more of my hair to grow back before Thinley can bring out my hair's full potential. I had a very important event to attend at the Javit Center and Thinley came through! Thank you so much Thinley!

Awesome place barbers are super helpful and try to understand what you need and what your life is structured like so they can provide the best cut for you. Vibes are great awesome space to be in and they really understand how to cut lots of styles and types of hair. My man Tim hooked it up again, gonna be back in a few weeks!

Pros: I've been coming to 12 Pell ever since I moved back to NYC last year and as a man with Asian hair, I can confidently say you'd be hard pressed to find a place that has more knowledge and technique on how to manage unruly straight hair and find the best hairstyles suited for Asian skin and faces, plain and simple. Every one of the barbers here are dedicated to the craft and can tell you everything there is to know about your unique hair and how to best work with it. My barber, Franky, no exception. Most barbers struggle with the unique growth pattern on the back of my neck, but Franky's managed to give me a clean skin fade or taper fade (I switch up on him regularly depending on my mood) every single time. He also does a damn good job keeping the top long, clean and textured the way I like it. Franky listens to your wants, takes into account your face shape and hair type, and will give you real feedback on what's possible and what's not, and has the technique to give you the best cut possible. He's my go-to. Book "Walk-In 3" online if you want to get a cut with him. Cons: I'll only dock a star from this place because for the price point, I definitely think a hair wash and a hotel towel should come standard. But considering the massive amount of popularity 12 Pell's come across, I can understand it's just not feasible with all the volume these guys bring in. Would love to see these guys expand further and build a bigger space that delivers a high-quality experience before and during the cut.

Heard this place from a friend who was impressed by their eye for detail, and knowledge. Needed a last minute haircut, and luckily they had a walk in available (as most of their barbers are scheduled out pretty far in advance). Marco was my barber, and I was very impressed with his education, patience, and attention to detail. He did not hesitate to educate me from maintenance, haircare, and styling tips. He even made the extra effort to text me with a quick summary of what he mentioned. Definitely top customer service. Will come again.

I've been getting my haircut from 12 Pell since the end of 2019 and every time I come in I have an amazing experience. When I went in today Julius was the one to cut my hair and he was amazing. Extremely friendly and down to earth, the conversations that we had were super fun and made the haircut fly by. He was also super knowledgeable and helped me get a haircut that fit me. He also gave me tons of tips that would make my next haircut easier which was also a life saver. Overall everyone here is extremely friendly and amazing at what they do. 10/10 experience every time.

I have been looking for awhile to get the unique service/experience of the consultation + haircut. I've been rocking the same style for years so I was interested in knowing what is recommended for my profile from someone who has seen many. So why not go with one of the most experienced the shop has to offer - enter Tim. Tim was professional and very engaging, and delivered his knowledge respectfully. We went with his direction and I can say I'm quite satisfied with the result. There's also just something about getting a scissor cut done by a masterful barber. There was a formal follow-up document called a Hair Resume sent to me a couple weeks later, along with the details on what was discussed. Excellent service and would recommend, especially if you've never had a consultation before.

First time going to 12 Pell and Franky was absolutely killer. He answered any questions I had and walked me through step by step what he was doing, and how to best maintain my cut in the future. He was very professional and was very knowledgeable. It was the first time where I could really be confident going into a barber shop knowing that I could effectively communicate what I wanted and also knowing that the barber was skilled with Asian hair. Honestly, these guys are worth so much more than just the hype. They're not just giving haircuts, they're working on a brand that involves bringing their community up with them, and creating a lifestyle that gives their clients a sense of purpose. I had the pleasure of making a consultation appointment with Peter and it was well worth it. He first asked me to explain what I've been doing with my hair my whole life, and what my goals are. Then he described to me the type of hair I have, specifically the qualities that would make certain type of hairstyles good and other styles not so good. He also kept answering all my questions, and would periodically stop throughout the cut to explain his process and also get my feedback. I've had barbers in the past ask me how it looks at the end, but I've never had someone ask me consistently throughout if what they're doing to my hair is in line with what I envisioned. Best part, he told me exactly how I should be styling my hair outside the shop, which is also completely new to me. Often times I find myself not able to recreate the fresh-outta-the-barbershop cut but Peter walked me through exactly the type of products I can use if I wanted to, and how to comb my hair, even down to the detail of which type of comb would be best for my hair. To top it all off, they'll be sending me an email with before and after photos of my cut, along with a written recap of what we talked about in regards to hair maintenance and styling. I also wanted to mention that even though this is the best haircut I've ever had, what I won't forget is how confident and empowered Peter made me feel leaving 12pell. I am definitely going back, there is absolutely no doubt.

3rd Visit: 10/10 Barber: Julius I highly recommend reserving Julius as your barber. My first time coming to 12 pell, I showed him a picture of Taehyung from BTS and asked him for a similar hairstyle with his own creative input. He completely nailed it. Although it didn’t look too much like the reference photo, he gave me a new hairstyle which was extremely adaptable to any kind of style I would like to go for.

I had been growing out my hair for almost 7 months, so I booked a consultation with Peter and it was a great experience! I was a little nervous leading up to the appointment, but Peter was pleasant and welcoming even before I got into the chair. As soon as I got situated and comfortable, Peter meticulously examined my hair and gave his advice and suggestions for my haircut in a professional yet friendly manner, letting me confirm I was on board with everything before he started cutting. He was also very knowledgeable on any questions I had regarding haircare and styling tips throughout the entire consultation and cut. Found this shop from Tiktok, ended up getting the best haircut I have got in NYC. Not only was Tim able to fix the botched haircut I got from my previous barber but during the consultation he also taught me about different haircuts that go well with my head shape, my specific type of hair, and a whole bunch of other stuff I didn’t remember right away but then he emailed me a full document with all the information in it including pictures of my haircut I could reference for next time if I ever was at a barber in another city! I don’t usually leave reviews but felt compelled by how awesome these guys are. I will not be going to another shop as long as I’m living in NYC.

Probably the best haircut I've ever gotten. I always struggled with finding the right hairstyle for my face shape, but Tim was very knowledgeable and gave me the exact haircut I wanted. At the end, he also gave me tips on how to style my hair and recommended a diffuser (which has helped a lot with styling). Honestly, I have never been so happy after a haircut, I can't recommend them enough. Having been to 12Pell twice already, I can't see myself getting a haircut anywhere else, amazing haircuts and genuine, good people.

Came in for a consultation and haircut, he helped me figure out what worked best based on my head shape, hair type and personal style. This is the spot to go if you aren’t sure what to do with your hair. Their consultation service and cuts is top notch. True meaning of young professionals. I had the pleasure of having Tim cut my hair. There’s a reason why his availability is hard to come by. He was very detailed in explaining what hair fits best for my face shape, what products to use that works well for my dry hair, how to style it, even down to the type of comb I should use. This is more than what I can ask for at any other barbershop. The most underrated part of the consultation has to be the hair resume. It outlines everything that he went over which is extremely helpful because I came from out of town so I don’t have the means to visit NY often. With the hair resume, I can explain how to cut my hair at a local shop. I’ll have to find time to come back again soon though because 12Pell has world class service.

I was a walk-in appointment and was taken care of by Marco. From the beginning, he was professional and showed a genuine interest in giving me the exact haircut I wanted and having a good experience at the shop. He texted me a couple days before to confirm the appointment and clarify that it was at the pop-up location. When I entered, he offered me water and spent a good amount of time listening to what I wanted and never once interrupted me. He then offered some suggestions based on his expertise. When he started the haircut, he was very friendly and personable so chatting with him was easy and the conversation flowed naturally. He also never lost focus while cutting hair and showed incredible attention to the details. Overall, it was an incredible experience and I loved the haircut. I attended an event a few days later where a lot of pictures were taken and Marco really pulled through for me. He even sent me a detailed message after the haircut outlining what he did and what products he would recommend I use given my hair type and health. I'm not from NYC so this was incredibly meaningful to me that he went the extra step to help me out in the future. If I was in NYC, I would continually come back to Marco cause he knows what he is doing and makes the overall experience enjoyable. I can't recommend him enough.

The team at 12 Pell are amazing! the customer service and the personalized care I get is the best thing I ever experience. I always get my hair cuts from Tim, he goes above and beyond for me all the time. When I have questions he answered them in detail and made sure I understood. His attention to details when cutting my hair is so focused, he makes sure that he takes care of you from the beginning to end of the appointment. I have been going to 12 Pell and using Tim for a while and I am very satisfied with everything I could not ask for more because they already do so much.

During the pandemic 2020-2021, I mostly did low effort self cuts since I felt going to barbers for a mediocre cut wasn’t worth the time and money. I learned about 12pell from social media and knew I wanted to go to a place that can cut asian hair. Currently it’s my 3rd cut here and results have been amazing! My barber Franky Chu explains his steps as he’s cutting and gives advice on what would look good or not. My pic is an 80/20 slick back taper I took right after my cut. My glasses were fogging up so I blurred it LOL. He put hair product on since I’m trying to grow my hair out to style it. The place in general is pretty clean, they offer water bottles and wait times are low since it’s appointment only. There are multiple barbers you can specifically book (haven’t booked with others since I’m loyal 😤😤😤). If you want Franky, book “Walk-in 3”

Back in january i had hair that looked like a mushroom and a hairline all the way back. my previous barber just kept on pushing my hairline back each time i would go, but i kept going cause my number 1 on sides was somewhat decent. my sis then made me an appointment for my bday with 12 pell. i was kind of nervous, i felt embarrassed with at that time, my hair. My hair consultant Tim helped me find a new hair style that suited my facial shape. Tim also helped me figure out what haircut i rather have. after my first cut, he told me it would take time for my hair and hairline to grow and improve, and as time went by my hair did grow. my sides got better, so did the hair on the top, and Tim also taught me how to better treat my hair. Fast forward to today, my go to hair style is a fringe on top, with a skin taper on the sides. I am very grateful to have tim as a barber. he’s helped improve my confidence and overall appearance, and not to mention his service is top notch, every time i go there he welcomes me and is attentive to my life, while giving me some personal advice too. overall i’d say it’s definitely worth going to 12pell. shoutout my g Tim again!

Don’t need to say much. These guys know exactly what they’re doing. They are intentional with what they say and their decisions/suggestions for you. I haven’t changed my hairstyle in 8 years and have been nervous to do so, but I went with a subtle change Pete recommended. I am so happy with the results and people around me noticed right away without anything being said. Did the full consultation, and the advice not just on the cut but maintenance and products after was exactly what I was looking for. Pete was awesome. Vibes immaculate. I got my cut from Tim. He won’t do you wrong. He clearly wanted to understand my hair and what might work best. I offered some pictures of what I wanted and he did exactly that. He plans for future cuts and gets every detail. Haircut comes out exactly the way you want it. He keeps everything clean and the overall experience is pretty phenomenal. I wouldn’t go anywhere else in the city.

12 Pell went above and beyond what I was expecting. For the last 12 years I've always had the same hair style / cut. I received a hair consultation from Tim and finally understood some key things about my hair and head. He gave me multiple options on what would suit my head shape and my hair type. Going to Tim allowed me to step away from what I've always known, and pointed me towards my hair "strengths" Whole process was fantastic , felt informed, and was zero pressure. Sitting in the chair felt like I had been going to him for years. He finished everything up by teaching me how to style my hair and informed me about products best suited for my hair type. Lastly , he followed up with what they call a resume. Gives you details about the appointment as well as pictures and a summary of everything we talked about during the consultation. 10/10 experience , if anyone is looking for anything more than just a haircut this is the place!

I’m not one to leave reviews, but 12 Pell has consistently given me great service and leaving a review is the least I could do. My hair is thick and grows super fast, so I’ve never like getting my haircut because most barbers just buzz it, clip it, and call it good. Now I actually look forward to getting my haircut. Thinley took the time to teach me where my hair parts and how to style it. When I told him I was moving back to LA, he personally messaged me instructions so I knew exactly what to ask for in the future. Him and honestly the whole crew are great people - best haircut I have ever had. Once I got my haircut from Frank (I think that was his name) and he also did an amazing job. I would trust anyone at 12 Pell to cut my hair. I’m going to miss this place, but will absolutely come back whenever I’m in NYC.

I've been coming to 12 Pell for about four months, and it's the best barbershop/salon I've been to. On my first visit, I got the hair consultation package w/ Tim, and Tim was great at prescribing a style that would look good for my hair type. Make sure to put your reservation in early, as they get filled up quickly. Highly recommended, and will be coming back for sure.

I've had my haircut with Julius several times this year already and I couldn't be more happy with the results each time. Definitely the most consistently clean cut I've had and I have every intention to keep returning for the foreseeable future. Julius is efficient and does an incredible job at listening to what it is you are looking for, brainstorming what he thinks would work best, and explaining what he is doing while executing and how to maintain the hair between visits. Genuinely could not recommend him and 12 Pell enough!

EDIT: Since my first cut with Tim over a year ago, I've consistently gotten great haircuts every time. Andy and Thinley are now my go-to's but it seems like every barber in there knows what they are doing! Got a cut from Tim and he made sure I was comfortable through the whole experience - from waiting for my cut, to walking out the shop. He also made sure to explain what he was doing as he was cutting my hair and taught me how to style it. Happy with the cut and will definitely be coming back. The shop is super clean and overall great atmosphere!

The good: Great atmosphere - its clean, bright and trendy feeling, without feeling pretentious or like you are being judged. They do consultations, which I think are great. They really listen to you and can give solid recommendations for a cut and style that not only looks good in the salon, but that you can upkeep on your own. They also do email follow ups with the recommendations post consultation, which is a great touch. Also, while they have products for sale, they don't pressure you to buy them.

Definitely one of the best haircuts I’ve received. Whenever it comes to getting haircuts I would be anxious as most of them turns out poorly. However, coming to 12Pell, my perceptive on getting a haircut has changed. I no longer have to think about hours whether I should risk a haircut, but rather know fully confident that 12Pell got me. Tiktoks full of super helpful tips on how to style certain types of hair, I had a blend of many hair types that they mentioned and thought it would be best to just be there in person. Flew up to NYC for a day, got a consultation with Peter. Not only was he super personable, but he was very understanding and knowledgeable on how to cut, style, and maintain my hair. Pete was super detail-oriented and helped explain the adjustments that he was making during the cut, including addressing my pain points when I normally getting haircuts. In the end, I got a clean, neat cut that made the entire trip worth every penny. And they even sent me a recap report that included how to explain my haircut to any barbers back home. 30 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend!

I was in NYC for my own destination wedding and was going to spend a substantial amount of time in NYC prior to the wedding. I wanted to make sure I had a fresh cut right before the big day but not sure if it made sense to cut before I flew into NYC.... so I took a leap of faith and booked an hair consultation with Tim literally the day before my wedding. And Man, did Tim deliver!! As soon as I entered the shop, I was immediately greeted by Peter/Tim and offered water. The shop was in pristine condition and there was no wait since I arrived a bit before my appointment time. I was ushered to the chair where Tim listened to my concerns and offered suggestions. Tim was patient throughout the whole appointment and worked with me to make sure I looked good for my wedding. But heres the kicker, not only did Tim set me up with the best cut I ever had. He was gracious enough to offer to help style my hair the next day on my big day!?! Shout out to Peter!! who was kind enough to hook me up. These guys are the REAL deal. Please do yourself a favor and book an appointment ASAP. Their calendars can fill up pretty quickly so the earlier the better. I will definitely come back the next time I am in town.

Tim really knows his stuff. Was a bit hesitant at first because of the price, but I've paid roughly the same amount at several other barbers and have not been a fan of the haircut I walk out with. With the quality of the cut and the service that came with it, I think the price is easily justified. Currently, I'm trying to maintain a wolf cut with naturally curly hair and Julius was able to perfectly deliver both times by reducing a lot of the internal weight which cleaned up the look a ton. Once I got to the Mulberry st location, Tim consulted with me about my hair type, face shape, and gave me his recommendations on several other factors which included my preferences. Afterwards, Tim sent me my own personal hair profile for future visits and incase I travel. I've tried many different barbers in the past, but not once have I experience the thorough quality I got from Tim. The hospitality shown as soon as you enter the salon is palpable and is felt throughout your stay from everyone. I cannot see myself going anywhere else to get a fresh cut after coming here. I recommend Tim and the 12 Pell brand, and rate 8/8! :)

I've been looking for a new Barber since my "go to" closed after covid. I've tried a few places that looked good and had good reviews but didn't live up to the hype. But 12 Pell is an excellent shop. I had Tim and he was spectacular. He took the time to get to know what I was looking for and what I'd tried in the past. He explained exactly what he was doing and made sure I agreed with his plan. He spent time creating a very collaborative experience. His technique was polished and his gear was top of the line. I definitely got the best cut I've had in years as a result. He gave me some spot on styling tips specific to my hair type. My favorite part was that he meticulously reviewed his own work - tracking down any stray hairs and making sure everything was spot on: he's a real professional. The vibe of the place made it clear they were very "customer experience" oriented, and they nailed it. I felt comfortable and taken care from the moment I walked in. Every chair was filled (while maintaining excellent covid protections) which says a lot, and everyone there had good relationships with their clients. I've been to places where there was animosity between the different barbers and that's always awkward. The place is clean and well lit, calm music, a very relaxing environment. The price point is spot on, if not below market for what I got. I've spent a lot more for worse service and worse cuts. I'm ecstatic I found 12 Pell and that it had real substance and not just hype.

Barber: Peter First saw this place on TikTok and I started seeing a lot of videos from them, and decided to try booking an appointment with them. Was not disappointed at all. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted in a very professional and friendly manner, and everyone in the shop was really friendly and easy to talk to. As for the cut itself, you could really tell that these guys know what they're doing, as my barber was able to provide me with recommendations as to what I could do with my hair even with little input from me. Peter was able to answer any questions I had and walked me through the entire cut process so I could be familiar with how to style my hair on my own time. Most barbers out there just do their own thing with the cut, but Peter made sure to actually take his time to make sure I was following, and that's something that I really appreciate. The cut was a bit on the expensive side, but for the quality and respect you're given, definitely would recommend going to these guys, especially if you're looking for a new hairstyle.

This was notably consistent of all the barbers and their clients that day. You can tell these gentlemen make an extra effort to ensure their clientele are welcome and "at home" by mirroring (and respecting) your personal vibe. Tim took the time to understand my lifestyle, face shape and hair to formulate a game plan that will keep my noggin looking fresh in and out of the office. I grew up with thick hair that started to thin out both in density and hair width as I hit my 30's causing the hair to curl and wave as it grew out. My guy took the time to explain different ways I could keep my hair tamed and gave me a scissor cut that kept the hair tapered w/o compromising on length as it grew out. Instead of shilling hair products, Tim also suggested different home remedies that could be applied to help condition and maintain the natural oils in my hair to prevent it from drying out. Came back to the wifey and she was keen on giving a wink and two thumbs up. Bonus: Tim checked in a few days later to make sure everything was good with the cut and provided a summary of everything we went over at the shop.

After many barbers didn't really work for me, I decided to come to 12pell for a haircut; I had Julius. I didn't know too well what I wanted, and I was open to some experimentation. He cared enough to listen to what I was looking for and to use that when working on my hair. He started with the sides, and asked me if I had ever tried a mullet. At first I was offended, and then he gave me an idea of what it might look like after doing just the sides (and eventually working on everything else). He noticed my contemplation, and went out of his way to offer to shave it (the mullet) off the next day if I remained unsure. Long story short, and miraculously, I decided to keep the mullet. I never liked mullets, and I never thought I'd have one, but Julius had the skill to allow me the opportunity to try something new. It was a look that I just hadn't seen on myself yet, and I 100% couldn't have had that opportunity without Julius. THINLEY IS THE GOAT! I’ve been going to 12 Pell since their first few months of opening in late 2019/early 2020. Since my first day trying 12 Pell, I’ve not been to another barbershop in New York yet and the prime reason being their specialty in customer service. I always wanted to try new barbers @12Pell so I’d just take the next available booking with any barber (many of the times, walk ins). I was always satisfied with my haircut here at 12 Pell but never as satisfied as haircuts that I get in my country just because I felt that they understood me better back home. This changed when I met Thinley before he had his own booking page (I believe he was walk-in 4). Thinley actually listened to what I wanted and was always attentive to anything I had to say. He also offered suggestions, which really suited my needs. He changed my opinion completely about fades because I was never really a fan of them until Thinley showed me a low skin taper which really suited my head shape. Apart from his amazing service, Thinley is a super hardworking and humble guy who can talk to you about anything. Honestly, since then, I have never booked walk-ins again and only go to Thinley for haircuts. I now book haircuts a month early so I can guarantee a spot with Thinley! Great work Thinley! I was the first walk in for the day at 9 am on a Saturday. They offered to take my coat and hat as well as offered bottles of water. Coming from a decade going to Super Cuts and about a year at a normal barber in my area the treatment threw me off guard at first. But it was much appreciated. Got the closest skin fade I'd ever received. Had a double take after touching the back of my head after already leaving the building. It's been 3 weeks since I've gotten my haircut and my gf still makes it a point to mention that she really likes my haircut. After a botched haircut from a salon by Flatiron, I needed somewhere to rectify my experience in time for my vacation next month. Go on any forum (especially reddit) and everyone will point you to Pell12 for Asian Male haircuts. My hair is fine and silky, so it's been a lifelong struggle to get a haircut from anywhere that isn't specialized in Asian hair. On top of that, I'm also balding, so that adds another element of layering. Appointments are scheduled mainly through their instagram and website and this area can use improvements. It was a little difficult navigating through the options and barbers as there aren't a lot of descriptors. My best advise is to pick what is most intuitive to you and mention it to them while you're in store; they barbers are friendly and are very welcoming to explain how their system works. At the beginning of the haircut, I explained to my barber Marco that I usually go with a trim and am flexible with some experimentation. We discuss briefly about hair length and he was very honest about how short he thinks would best suit my appearance. So we decided on a length and what I respected most was that he was careful to explain that as he cuts my hair, we'll take breaks to allow me to assess if I'm comfortable to go shorter in increments. So as we move along, I can see the progression and ended with a length and style that allowed me to take me out of my comfort zone, that my gf loves. Also, I saw my friend in while yesterday and the first thing she mentioned was how she liked my haircut. So, I'll definitely be coming back for my next haircut. Marco was also very explicative of how he was going to layer my hair, to accommodate my balding hairline, as one side is regressing faster (something the botched haircut before didn't care to consider). The barbers are also all Asian males and a lot of people go to salons to wind-down and socialize, so it was nice for a change to go to a spot that I was part of a community of and spoke English (as a young adult Asian male who barely speaks a language outside of English). I think the one thing I find missing from this experience is there's no wash and shampoo. It always felt like a mini-spa.

I came in for the consultation and cut with Andy and I couldn't be happier with the experience and outcome. Before I came in, Andy had me send him a selfie and asked if I had any hair inspiration to aspire to. I didn't, so he suggested a couple of styles that he thought might work. During the cut, Andy started by asking about my previous cuts, what I liked, what I didn't like. He then took the time to explain the kind of hair I had as well as the shape of my face. Based on these attributes, he explained the kinds of hair styles that would work best. He also took into account my hair routine (no products, infrequent cuts) when offering suggestions. After we agreed on the hair style, Andy started cutting, checking in with me about the length as he went. He solicited feedback as he worked to ensure I was getting the haircut I wanted and took the time to show me the back and sides several times during the cut. He later emailed me notes on the items we had discussed, along with photos of the completed cut so future barbers would have a handy and personalized reference to follow. That was almost three months ago, and while my hair has now grown out, the styling advice he offered continues to be relevant. I'm looking forward to my next cut at 12 Pell. I highly recommend the consultation if you'd like to receive professional and thoughtful guidance on your hair.

I was born with an uncommon hair type among Asians having wavy, thin, and dense hair. I never felt any haircuts fit me well in Chinatown because of that. It wasn't until I came to 12 Pell that I finally got a haircut I was completely satisfied with. I got their consultation package and I can say it was 100% worth it when I had my appointment with Andy. 12 Pell has their haircuts down to a science. They give you advice on what cuts best suit you according to you hair density, thickness, and face shape. Not only that, they even give advice on the best ways to maintain your hair from changing your shampoo to changing your pillow covers. I had no idea that some of the things I was routinely using cause me such frizzy hair. Aside from what you get, the atmosphere there had a cool vibe to it. You can feel the people there love cutting hair and giving people incredible transformations.

Not only did he execute a taper fade perfectly but also fixed past barber mistakes in the blending (I've been looking for a new barber lately). Stopped by here last minute on my trip to New York and booked a walk in appointment with them. Service here is definitely exceptional. When I walked in, I was offered a bottle of water as I waited for my appointment. Before my haircut, they even helped me put away my jacket and bag. The barber that helped me this day was Julius. When discussing about what haircut I should get that day, Julius gave me really helpful suggestions and reasons regarding it. Throughout the hair cutting process, Julius was walking me through everything that he was doing and he was answering all the questions that I had in regards to styling my hair afterwards. Nice chill spot, hadn't had a haircut in months and my barber Tyler hooked it up. I explained how I normally cut my hair and Tyler walked me through a few suggestions he felt would work well/better and in the end the haircut was super clean and quick. Conversations were good too, if you're not one to talk to your barber you'll be fine but all the barbers here were clearly friendly with all of their clients and you'd be doing yourself a disservice not getting to know the folks behind the clippers.

Found this shop from a mutual friend. A first timer and was looking for a barber that not only understand Asian hair but can fix my haircut from my previous barber. I found Tim and started my consultation hair cut appointment with him. My experience with him was welcoming and informative as he gave me a run down about my hair and what specific type of hair my head is. He taught me about different haircuts that go well with my head shape, and gave me suggestions to how to move forward with my haircut. He was very patient and made me feel comfortable with the whole experience by making sure that every cut is what I want. At the end, he emailed me a full document with all the information in it including pictures of my haircut I could reference for next time if I ever was at a barber in another city. I rarely leave reviews but felt compelled by how awesome Tim was with my whole experience. While the price tag can be high, but the experience and his professionlism is what makes up for it and would trust him with my hair the next time I’m around NYC.

By far the best haircut I've ever had! Pete took his time to listen to the style I was going for and then gave suggestions and explained how he was going to cut my hair. He took time to explain my hair style and texture and how I should be taking care of my hair and then showed me a few different ways I could style it. I needed to get a cut, specifically wanted to get into the fade game. Being the typical 17 year old high school student, I am quite picky in what I want. Until, one day, I stumbled upon a Tiktok that the wonderful men of 12Pell created. I am able to see the efforts of these wonderful gentlemen come into play. Immediately, I set up an appointment on their super smooth site, where it's as easy as 1 2 3 to get an appointment reserved. I step in this small but warm barbershop, my barber Franky approached me and asked what I wanted. I asked for just "fade" (I didn't know the different types of fades) I also showed him a couple pictures of what I wanted, that's when he suggested me to get a "mid-drop fade" The process of cutting my hair was amazing, I was able to connect with Franky on a super deep level, where our conversations revolves around our day to day lives. When my haircut was finished, I was amazed, my scalp felt so light, my sides felt great and I even felt great. Franky instilled an confidence in me that wouldn't have happen if I hadn't came to this amazing store. Yes, a cut here is $45, but having a new style, great barber, just something new makes those 2 $20 and $5 all worth it in the end. Thank you Franky my brother! I will be coming back very soon!

There are some things that you can research online and get a lot of knowledge, but you are relying on other people that are talking about their hair, not YOUR hair. He gives a nice skin taper which allows Asian hair to grow out in a nicer shape which ultimately requires less haircuts! The atmosphere is great at 12 Pell. I know I picked a great place, and have only skimmed the surface of the many great things this place has to offer.

Tim is great! I hadn't trusted a barber or hairdresser for 7 years and had always cut it myself because I'm so particular and have some funky growth patterns and cowlicks -- I'm also transmasculine and have had barbers in the past give me cuts that look way too feminine. Having a consult along with my first cut meant I could trust that Tim would take care of all of my pain points, and he has super expansive knowledge on what growth patterns, hair types, and face shapes mean for the ideal cut. First time visitor to 12 Pell. Great haircut from Thinley. I have straight and thick hair and was concerned about the potential cowlick on my crown, which has happened in the past with other barbers. He understood my concerns and explained how he was going to cut my hair so that it would fall along its natural spiral. He was very communicative, explaining what he was doing and showing me my hair length as he was cutting. As a testament to the great haircut, even after a few days, it looks just as good as when it was first cut. And I don’t have to use a product to tame my crown. I highly recommend Thinley for anyone who is on the fence about trying a new barber.

Insanely impressed with my first haircut at 12 Pell. Thinley is an absolute master at his craft; he gave me an incredible haircut -- one of my favorites ever. I've been searching for a long time for the right hair stylist that could bring my hair idea to life: a modern mullet that takes to account my hair (super thick and straight) and my head shape (very long and narrow). I was recommended 12 Pell from a friend who had heard that they have expertise in cutting Asian hair. I took a look at Thinley's Instagram and knew that he was the right person to trust for my hair cut. When I came to the shop, he was really kind and had a lot of insight into what would look good on my head. He was masterfully skilled at using a feather razor, clippers and scissors. Afterwards, he even gave me stylist tips for my new hair. Would definitely come back!

Exceeds my expectation. The first time i saw 12pell was in instagram and pretty impressed with the short video (and advise given by the barbers). I flew from LA to New York for this and it never disappoint me. I booked my scissor cut with Thinley, even though i do have my own preferred haircut (I shown some few pictures to him) plus explained to him the issue the i encountered with my previous haircut, he listened and told me what he will gonna do with my hair to resolve the previous issue that i am facing with my haircut. I was impressed with the haircut from Thinley and recommended me some product to use for my hair (he did not try to upsell anything from the shop, but something that you can easily buy in any other store). I must say, 12pell is not your typical hole-in-the-wall barbershop or any other salon, the barbers (even though i only had haircut with Thinley). No doubt, they are master of their own game.

Short version: Got my haircut from Thinley. Highly recommend 12 Pell and Thinley. I came in and only had two “requirements” and Thinley worked his magic, leaving me with the best haircut I’ve had to date. Longer version: I came to NYC a year ago and heard about 12 Pell thru a friend from high school. I tried to find it one day while walking thru Chinatown but to no avail. Cut to a year later, another friend of mine recommends 12 Pell while I’m on another trip to NYC. This time my friend recommends Thinley and I made a reservation in advance. When getting to 12 Pell they offered me a cold drink and I only had to wait a short while until Thinley was ready. In the chair I told Thinley I only had two things I was trying to optimize for: keep/increase volume on the top and cover a scar. Thinley walked me thru my hair pattern, what kind of haircuts work best for my head shape, etc. During the haircut we spoke about his Nepali roots and his journey to where he is now. Super cool story and conversation. At the end Thinley told me some things to remember if I wanted the same haircut again, size on the sides, taper style, etc. Best place and best guy to get a haircut from in NYC. I don’t live in NYC right now but will fly back to get my haircut from Thinley every month if I have to!

My fire time getting a haircut in NYC so I was skeptical about where to go but saw the reviews and decided why not, and boy that was a great decision. My barber was Thinley, and I’ve never met a more genuine person that actually cared about the customer. He asked me what I wanted but I instead asked him what he think would suit my face and build best, his knowledge is absolutely unbelievable, my hair was too short for what he wanted, so we’ve a plan on how we’re going to do it, and I immediately booked a second appointment with him once I walked out the door. Thinley is also just an all round gentleman and I could talk to him for hours, he didn’t mess about at all with the haircut, it was perfection. He then went the extra mile and recommended to me cheaper products off Amazon that would do the job to keep the shape of my hair and keep it consistent. I honestly could not have asked for a better barber and if possible I would fly him back to Ireland to cut my hair it was that good. You can see on the pictures below how good a job he did in about 10 minutes. Just wanna give props to my main barber Franky, the man knows his haircuts. Anything you ask for Franky is going to go above and beyond to make your hair 1000/10. The first time I ever went to 12Pell I wasn't to sure which barber to choose on the website so I just chose the option of "walk in 3". Turns out it was Franky and I told him what I wanted (which was a mullet) and he cut it exactly how I wanted it. Now every time I come in for a cut he knows exactly what I want and he cuts it perfect every single time. The whole 12pell squad is dope as well! Every barber there is certified G and they are like magicians with the clippers the way they give you exactly what you want. I encourage everyone to go at least once to 12pell and if you wanna choose one of the dope barbers choose my guy Franky (AKA "walk in 3") on the website!

After seeing all of their social media posts/videos, I decided I would actually go and give 12Pell a try. I made an appointment with Thinley, and was extremely helpful with how I should cut my hair for the style I was going for. He was very knowledgeable about my hair type, what would or would not work, and how I should proceed with my hair. I came out with exactly what I was looking for, and could not be happier. I never paid this much for a haircut before ($45) but overall I got excellent service, and will definitely be coming back. Only con I can think of would be that they are extremely busy and it may be difficult to book an appointment, so you would have to plan out a hair cut couple of days to a week in advance.

I've been getting the basic economical $10-15 haircuts for a while now and decided it was time to see what a premium haircut was like. The experience is similar to the difference in visiting a regular car dealership and a luxury dealership. The shop is modern, clean, inviting, friendly staff, complimentary beverages and the best part is that you can schedule your appointment online. It was a pleasant surprise to see that they used Dyson hair dryers and Hanz De Fuko styling products. The price for a cut will be more than what you pay at a regular barber, but you're paying for a high end experience and attention to detail. To get more business, the only recommendation I would give is to consider a basic haircut option (i.e. no wash and no hot towel treatment). That might bring in some more people willing to pay a little more for a premium cut, but don't need the full service.

First time at 12 Pell, great experience. I walked in not really knowing what I wanted to do because I grew my hair out LONG for the first time ever. This would be my first big haircut in 1.5 years and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it. A lot of times Barbers will seem like they are in a rush, ask “what do you want to do” and feels like they only have 10 seconds to spend on this part of the cut. But Tim took the time to ask questions and talk through ideas with me. That was great. I could tell he was being super careful throughout the whole cut to make sure all of the lines were clean and even. Entire experience in the shop was great, they try to make sure you’re comfortable. Definitely recommend this 12 Pell and will be back!

if anyone is unsure about which hair style fits them, or is looking for a new hair style that fits their face structure / hair type, or is just looking for a dope cut, I cannot recommend 12 Pell enough!! I went to Tim for the hair consultation + cut combo, and left with a super clean cut + knowledge about my hair that I've never learned. For example, turns out my entire life I've been pushing my hair the wrong direction (right instead of left)! Once I started pushing my hair in the right direction, loose strands became much easier to manage. 12 Pell is excellent and everyone should go!

Today was my first time ever visiting 12 Pell after seeing them on Instagram for weeks. I decided to give them a shot because I usually had disastrous/botched haircuts in the past and I wanted to see what they could do for me. Honestly, I was a bit apprehensive because I had no reference and I was going in blind. However, the barber who took care of me today, Andy, was super welcoming and reassuring. He made me feel super comfortable and was super insightful when it came to my hair and just hair in general. Andy is a pretty cool, chill type of dude. He made the visit fun and I don’t have any complaints. From keeping it groomed to keeping it healthy, Andy was super helpful and wise and the consultation was definitely worth the money. He gave me good tips on what I should/could be doing with my hair and gave me recommendations on hairstyles I should try out. If any of you are on the fence about this place, don’t be. The vibe is great there and they really take pride in their work. It’s more then a career or a job to them; it’s the passion and it is so obvious. They are masters of their crafts and I will be going back in a few weeks time. Believe the hype and believe that they are going to take care of you. I can’t speak on any other barber there because I am a first time customer but Andy was definitely the right call and I am glad I choose him. 10/10 would recommend again.

I've spent most of my life either having my family cut my hair or cutting my own hair, which has been great for not looking like Sasquatch during the pandemic, but I decided I wanted to get professional advice on what to do. I met with Andy and he gave me great tips on how to style my hair, what products to use, and how to take better care of Asian hair. For me, the coolest part was getting a "hair resume" emailed after my appointment that I could show to a barber, either at 12 Pell or elsewhere, for instructions on how I want my hair cut. That's super useful if I'm traveling or if 12 Pell doesn't have appointments open, which is pretty often given how popular they are. Highly recommend getting the consultation on your first visit!
