I've found my new barbershop, more importantly my new barber. I am very loyal to my service providers and now that I'm back in New Orleans again, I started visiting the top 10 barbershops. The distance is a bit further than I'd like but traffic in this city is a giant misconception. 20 minutes in NOLA and people freak out, 20 minutes in Houston and you've moved through a few subdivisions. Back to Aidan Gill, I saw they closed their Fulton Alley location so the only one is on Magazine Street. Try to arrive 10 minutes early so you can find street parking, which is all pay-to-park on Magazine. My barber was able to fix the mistakes another place made in about 12 minutes and I was out the door. I am going to stick with them. They have been around since before I left this city a decade ago and they are still one location with very personalized service and a long wait list. I made my follow-up appointment the day I was there, a full month out. Glad to see that the famed location is still reliable and reasonably priced as well.

This is the first time I’ve bothered to leave a review on a barber shop. Aidan cut my hair and the whole experience (which began with a complimentary glass of whiskey) was a joy from start to finish. Wonderful conversation and a beautiful, traditional cut from a true expert in his craft. I’ll definitely visit again next time in New Orleans. Aside from the cut itself, the shop is a real gem and features a wall dedicated to barbering history and artefacts - well presented and a great array of products to purchase.

Aidan Gill is the best barber shop in the world. If you haven’t had the AGFM experience, you are missing out. I have been a customer of Aidan’s for 20 years. He’s forgotten more about barbering and men’s grooming than most people know about the subject. Aidan is the world’s great best storyteller. And his products are the best on the market. Do yourself a favor and visit. Or order some AGFM grooming products for home as the next best thing.

I will start out with: I didn’t get a cut but was told about their extensive historical barbershop artifacts. My beautiful wife and I stopped by and was pleasantly surprised to see quite a collection of antique barbering equipment. We were met by a very nice lady who very graciously and proudly showed off the displayed antiques. If ever you are in the area and have more than a few minutes you should definitely stop by to admire the collection and while you do that be sure to review the extensive products for sale in there while you are at it. I would definitely enjoy a one on one with the owner/collector if ever the opportunity arose. I am an out of towner but the next time I am through I will definitely make sure my hair is longer so I can sit in the antique barber chair and get my hair cut. Though they won’t do the place and the antiques real justice check out these pics.

I went here with a few guys from a wedding party. The atmosphere here was akin to an old school barber shop and the treatment was no different. We were offered drinks while we waited for our shaves and the shaving experience was mind blowing. I've never had such a nice shave in my life. Honestly, haven't felt a baby face like that in years.

If you like to have a proper shave, one can get all he needs here. Including the shave itself. If you are like me, and like to do it yourself, shave oils, aftershave, brushes, and anything else you like is available. Great classic haircuts in a non-salon barbershop, and a pint, or whiskey while you wait. Who could ask for more. Don't walk in. You will need an appointment, so plan ahead.

The services and products are great but they make it tough to be a customer. The line is always busy. I have stopped in for an impromptu shave too - the shop is empty but no one is there take walk ins so its hours before the next available appointment. If it was easier id spend more here!

I just got back from my first haircut at Aidan Gill and I really enjoyed it. I was greeted by the front desk guy, asked to sit in the red chairs in the back and waited a few minutes for Paula to finish her cut before mine. I was offered "Something to drink, like water, coffee, whiskey, whatever you'd like". It was 10:30 in the morning, so I opted for the coffee. Beginners mistake. Anyways, the hair washing was nice, and as comfortable as the awkward backward chair with your head cradling between the hard sides of a ceramic sink could be. It was pretty private, quiet, and warm. Next, Paula asked me questions about how I wanted my hair cut, some basic things, then got to work. She was professional, fun, and at the end of the entire 35 minute cut, I was very happy with the results. I purchased the molding clay she used on my hair (Aveda Men's, $22), then paid for the haircut ($40 + 20% tip). While it's not the cheapest haircut I've ever had, I'm convinced it will be a easy-to-replicate scene. There's nothing I dislike more about a salon than having the stylist be unavailable when I need a cut, and having to go to someone else. Paula is great, and I'll be coming back. This time, I'll get the whiskey. UPDATE - I've been going for a year now and have gotten consistantly solid cuts from Nathan. I had one bad experience, getting an emergency cut before an event. I went back a few days later and Aiden himself cut my hair, fixing the previous barber's mistake. Henceforth, I'll be keeping my appointments with Nathan. Further, their shaving oil is a nice addition to my dob kit. I have a beard, and therefore only shave my neck, usually fresh out of the shower without oil. Winston and Aiden suggested I try their oil, and it's made all the difference. Smoother shaves for sure. They also suggested I check out the Razor Pit, a strop made of rubber and plastic. It's kept my blade sharp for the past month, which is pretty impressive. Good people, who know their art. And the Guinness is always perfectly poured.
