I’m really happy I stumbled upon 1890. I have lived in the GR area for almost 4 years and had not yet found a steady place to get my haircut. Andi has been wonderful to work with and has done a terrific job. I will certainly be a repeat customer. During my appointments I have also noted that all of the other stylists have a great rapport with their clients as well. Come check 1890 out!

I was nervous changing from my usual barber but I’m so glad I finally did. Jada has the skills and confidence that I would 100% trust her to cut my hair into any style at this point. Overpriced. You can go across the street and get the same hair cut for $40.00. My boyfriend went in for a cut on a mullet and a nose wax which he regrets getting now that he knows the dangers of it and $73 later he was done and it is by far a mediocre cut NOTHING special lol shave on the sides no length cut and some hair trimmed on the top. He said his lady steph was really nice and said he had the whole place laughing which I’m sure he did. BUT if you are looking for a overpriced shop go here! Otherwise you can get the same hair cut at head of the pride for way cheaper. Thanks :)

Great place! Old school vibe. Not a bunch of televisions every where. Imagine a quick spa day for men. Every time I go there I feel like I leave on cloud 9 and looking like a million bucks. Need to clean up your nails, sure! Massage, sure! Even need your shoes shined, sure! And that is just the tip of the iceberg of what they have to offer. Maybe you need just a quick beard or mustache trim. Maybe your nose hairs are tickling your mustache and ya need a waxing. Thats what i got done last time i was there and it wasn't that bad at all! Almost like i just got a fresh pair of lungs after they pulled all that crud out! They can do that too! I have been going here pretty much since they have opened and would highly recommend this place for anyone that wants a more old school feel.

I do not normally leave reviews unless services were exceptionally good or bad. I have been all over GR for haircuts…high end salons to franchise barber shops looking for a predictably good cut. I showed Andi B. one picture and she carried it out confidently to perfection. Kudos to you all for providing a high level of service at a competitive price. My husband tried this place, and it's awesome! His haircut is great, and he liked the little "extras" that were complimentary, like the hot scented (lavender and sandlewood, I think) towel on his face, and the way owner/stylist Jairleen went to the extra effort of giving him a second haircut after the shampoo. He also appreciated the back of the neck massage and shave. Tasteful, simple decor, a combination of modern and turn of the century, make this shop a very welcoming, relaxing place to get a haircut at a reasonable price. My husband will definitely be a return customer.

You can get your hair professionally cared for with reasonable prices, and they will also shine and recover your leather shoes / boots. Jairleen does a fantastic job- no matter the time of day or level of traffic, she will take the necessary time to ensure you are taken care of, never rushing and never cutting corners to speed things up. Prior to Jairleen launching her own establishment, myself and my two boys had followed her, as she made employment changes throughout Grand Rapids, over a 13 year span. After moving to Grand Haven, we now make the drive due to her excellent execution and consistency. A bad haircut or lesser experience isn’t worth finding somewhere closer or cheaper. Shop is clean, has a cool atmosphere, and close to other fun stops in GR. This place will continue to thrive.

I am new to the Grand Rapids area and am so glad to have found 1890, more importantly that I got Andi as my stylist. Let’s start with the professionalism of the staff and the impeccable appearance of the shop with its great looking barcelona chairs in the wait room, and the chance to have your shoes shined if needed. The barbershop is warm and inviting. Let’s move on to the quality of the staff. I’m sure all of the stylists are amazing but I was lucky to have been paired up with Andi. I kinda just throw a dart in the dark for an online appt based on my time slot. I couldn’t be happier, her professionalism and quality of my haircut was amazing. She takes her time and you never feel rushed. Her personality and attitude is so upbeat and laid back that you leave there a better person than when you arrived. My wife said it's her new favorite cut for me, and that it looks like detail was taken into care. Getting a haircut is always something I look forward to every few weeks, I cannot say enough about the quality of the location and service provided. Not only will I continue to be a loyal customer but I am a fan and tell everyone I know about your services.

Absolutely awesome atmosphere. Everyone was cheerful and welcoming and the beard trim was on point! Blake Ann did an incredible job cleaning up the hack job I did on my beard! And Jeff was phenomenal with the shoulder, neck deep tissue massage! I have a hard time finding someone to get the knots out of my trunk of a neck and Jeff’s hands worked wonders, and was cheerful the whole time. I’ll definitely be returning!

Just had a deep tissue massage for the first time and let me tell you, Jeff is amazing. His skill is top notch and I would not hesitate recommending him to anyone. Clean, kind, professional and makes you feel completely at ease. Did some Googling and found this place, ended up booking an appointment with Jairleen - glad I did. Place has a great atmosphere with some pretty good tunes playing in the background, not to mention it was CLEAN. The haircut and beard trim turned out great; really took her time on both to ensure they turned out great. I was surprised with their beard butter/oil - it smells awesome! Stop thinking about it and just book an appointment already.

I had a deep tissue massage by Jeff, who works there now one day a week. Let me tell you, if you have any hesitation, for what ever reason for getting a massage, let it go! He's been doing this for years and his knowledge and experience will make you feel like a whole different person. Treat yourself and your body will thank you for it. It's clean and professional and this world is too short and too stressful not to get a massage. I'm serious when I say, Jeff will help you to feel great and it's so good for you!! I've been getting my hair cut by Jairleen at 1890 for almost 3 year now and I will never go to anyone else. In the past, I've always been very particular about who cuts my hair and the consistency of the hair cut. I used to go to some of the bigger, franchised-based hair cutting businesses around town, and the quality of the haircut would vary from one week to the next. With Jairleen and 1890, I never have to worry about that. They treat every customer and cut as if it's their own family and the level of talent is unmatched. I typically get my beard trimmed and shaped as well, and Jairleen is an absolute pro at that. I've received numerous compliments about the shaping of my facial hair and it's all because of her. I don't leave many reviews on Google, but I would be doing a disservice if I didn't for 1890. I cannot recommend them enough to anyone that is looking for a haircut you can't count on.
