Great experience. Nice facility amazing haircut and beard trim. The "free" drink is a nice perk, but you're paying for it in the price. I'd rather have a slightly less expensive cut and no drink. Even si, I recommend it.

Wendy was just great. I'm not picky about hair cuts at all, but she was careful to ask questions and adjust to make sure I was happy. She also struck a good balance of small talk which is obviously objective to individual customer preference, but was just right for me. It's a nice place that's casual and clean. Has both a community shop sort of feel as well as a personalized feel. Good stuff overall.

I had a really nice time today. Wendy was my hairstylist and she really did a great job of listening to me and being very detailed oriented. Today was my first time there so I was a bit taken back not know the procedure, but that was fine in the end. The only thing that was off for me was that it felt a little loud for my liking. Other than that it was an overall nice experience. Everyone was very friendly to me.

It was my first time at Scissors and Scotch. I checked in at the bar, and got myself a beer while waiting for my appointment. Hailey, the stylist, did a great job making me comfortable and talking with me about what I wanted my hair and beard to look like. We did some eyebrow and nose waxing too, which she did a great job explaining the process. Overall a great experience and I look forward to the next time I need a haircut.

Kaylee was very nice and also very understanding of my situation. I just moved to DSM and haven't found the right person to cut my hair. I let her know my back story and she responded with "I got you!" By the end of the haircut, I found my person!! She was very open to my feedback and was willing to make my experience a memorable one. I have had many haircuts over many decades, but I don't believe I've ever gotten more compliments than after the haircut/shave Hailey gave me. I kind of regret going now. I don't want to schedule a haircut. I just want to walk into a place and wait for the next available person. I'm just guessing those kinds of places do mediocre work based on this most recent experience. You should probably not be like me and set up your appointment now. 😂 Update: I wanted a haircut today, and I did find an opening for the same day. There may always be cancelations so make sure you check if you want to try it and don't plan well.

This is my 2nd time at Scissors & Scotch in West Des Moines and it was just as great of an experience as the first time - so much so that I purchased the annual membership! The bar has an excellent selection (especially for members!) and the treatment is top notch! Hailey is the utmost professional and is diligent in making sure she gets it just right! Again, I am so impressed that I went ahead and got the membership - this is now my goto for haircuts and 1st class treatment!

Traveled from the east coast for a wedding and damn what a business model. Haircut was great, but everyone was super friendly and accommodating after the grooms flight was cancelled and had to move some of the groomsman’s haircuts to another day. Shout out to Malik who was one of the best bartenders I’ve ever encountered. Let me know when one of these opens up close to me….it would be my new barbershop.

This Place has it all... I was impressed with how awesome this place was! I was wanting a new hair style so have been growing my hair out a but and went in with an idea of the style I liked. My stylist agreed that it would be a great style and suggested little tweaks to customize the look to fit my profile. Added bonus to Top-Notch Stylists, the attached bar that you can hangout and chat with other patrons and enjoy a drink.

The stylist was personable, experienced and helped him make decisions on his hair. The lounge was very relaxing and the selection of alcohol was wonderful, the bartender knew their stuff and the staff was extremely friendly. 10/10 would recommend

Tbh, I can't imagine myself getting a haircut somewhere else so long as I live in Des Moines. I've been there maybe a half dozen times and often with different stylists and they have all done an incredible job! Every haircut is fresh and fun, and not to mention you get to drink while you're there. Definitely not the cheapest place for a cut but it's service that cannot possibly be beat.

Staff was incredible, from the stylist to both of the bartenders. Nothing here is a gimmick. Stylist gave me fantastic, honest advice about what would work for me and what to look out for if I wanted to try something new. Bar staff was extremely, and I really do mean extremely, knowledgeable about drinks and made for fantastic, easygoing, and friendly conversation. I’ve only been twice, but already know it’s where I plan on going for the foreseeable future. If I could give a better rating I would.

This is not a hair cut, it's an experience that every man should have. Enjoy the cut, have your beard sculpted while you are at it. No lame waiting rooms with uncomfortable chairs and cheesy magazines. Wait in the bar/lounge, enjoy an on the house scotch, and watch the game while you wait. Come back for round two after your cut and enjoy some camaraderie.

To say I go for a haircut would do a huge disservice to Scissors & Scotch. I go for the whole experience. The amazing haircut is just a part. Everyone is warm, inviting, and welcoming. You are immediately greeted and directed to the bar, where a perfectly poured drink will be given to you from an amazing bar tender. From the minute you walk in to the minute you leave, of which there is no rush ever, you are treated amazingly. The services are professional and you can tell everyone is very experienced. I leave feeling like a million bucks. Bailey was the stylist I had this time, as I had not been to the West Des Moines location yet. She was so amazing. The best haircut I have ever had, literally. The conversation was great and the service was 5 star the whole way through. I will be coming back and absolutely requesting Bailey again. I would suggest anyone to go here. If you want to get, in my opinion, the best experience with true professionals then this is the place to go.

Wow! I got a gift card to Scissors and Scotch for Father’s Day and thought this would be fun to get a true barber experience. It was so easy to make an appointment online and select the services that I wanted. I got both email and text confirmations. The service was above and beyond expectations! Andrea listened to what kind of cut I wanted, asked the necessary questions and gave me the best barber experience I ever had. Shampoo, cut, hot towel, beard trim, neck shave then I went to the bar for the free drink (an old fashioned in my case). The Staff was friendly and the service was great! Wonderful experience from start to finish. Apointments fill up quickly but we'll worth it if you can plan ahead. Traveled to Iowa for work & it's always a challenge to find a good place but I'm very happy I found this place, only wish they had ta chain all over the states! Super clean & friendly staff. Their products are pretty awesome too & wide selection. Best advice: Show up a little early to enjoy a drink to unwind at the bar. Then sit back, relax and let them chop off that dead weight above your shoulders 😌

Had a great visit. Wasn’t sure what to do- usually keep my hair clipper short, but let it go for at least 7 months during the shutdown, etc and wanted to keep it long and wavy. Let Andrea decide what to do and she did a fantastic job. Couldn’t have gone better and my wife LOVED it. The smoked old fashioned, suggested by Andrea, was terrific, too. Will definitely be back.

Amazing experience. First time I was walked to the bar, got a free drink and enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar, and my phone, as I waited for my barber. The bartender was super friendly as well. When my barber brought me to his station he answered all my questions, walked me through everything, was extremely attentive to what I wanted, and helped shape and style my hair based off a photo online. I surprise my bf with his first appointment at S&S this past weekend and it was so much more then I expected. The entire staff was fun, professional, and very helpful with all our questions. The bar area was beautiful, we are considering going in and just drinking because it’s such a well designed bar with great options. I got him the full haircut and straight razor experience, which I was far more excited then he was for this. (Just the idea of someone holding a straight razor to his throat was fascinating!) Alana was our gal and not only was she very meticulous on getting him the perfect cut, she was also understanding with me observing and asking a lot of questions. We had a wonderful time. James (my bf) said it was one of the most relaxing experiences he had in a long time. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend came here for a haircut as his hair was very long and needed to be cut. For the past two years we have been trying to explain to a stylist how he wants his hair to be cut as he has a widows peak/receding hair line and the cut is meant to mask this. It never turns out quite right. This time however, the stylist Bailey did an amazing job, his hair has never looked better!! We will definitely be booking with this stylist every time he gets a cut from now on. The atmosphere here is great as well!

I was referred to S&S by a co-worker and also received a gift card from my kids for a haircut or two. My experience went beyond my expectations. My stylist was Aubrey. It is very relieving getting your haircut and knowing that it is specially cut to your hair type, cowlicks, and that the stylist is looking to create a lasting relationship with you and not just looking to make a quick buck on a 13 minute haircut. The lounge was a great area to unwind after a long week and to prep yourself for 40-50 minutes of a haircut. I could have spent easily 2-3 hours here. All in all, 5 stars, very great experience!

Everytime I have been here they have treated me exceptionally! The phase you get what you pay for is true to its reputation here, because this isn't great clips. From the moment you walk in to grab an exceptionally made drink, to getting you hair done exactly how you want it done, you are treated right. My hair is always cut exactly how i want it, the conversation is fantastic, and when you walk out the door you are ready to take on anything. Perfect place to go get a hair cut and stiff drink.

I went in on the first day having an appointment for 3 days at 6:15 but after waiting for an hour (they close at 7), I never got called and I went home without a haircut. The staff was great throughout and they were apologetic but I was still annoyed.. Not 20 minutes after I put in my previous review, the owner Eric calls my cell and was cool from the get-go. He made no excuses and offered for me to come in and get taken care of appropriately. I always give a place two chances, so I took him up on the offer. I ended up with Ashley and she was awesome! I expected a good cut but I got a great one and some extra amenities I hadn't expected! I will be back!

I really like the feel of the place, bright clean and a bar attached! Liz has cut my hair several times and she does a great job, very close attention to details and asks along the way how I want it. I have done the 10 year: shampoo, scalp massage, steam towel and conditioner and cut. The old fashioned cocktail is a great cap to the haircut. I would say it is a lot easier to download the app and book that way. The scheduling website is not the most intuitive I have used, no easy option I have seen to just click rebook and skip all the questions. I just want the same thing, pick a date and time- should be easier. I wish they would just build an app with all functions internal, but hey. Friendly people and a great concept, and Liz is great!

S&S took a mistake made by a rival barber shop and delivered on my desired goals. I had an image I wanted to make work, but brought an alternative for the barber's consideration. Not only did they believe they could make it happen, but that I could be able to style my hair to my goal in under five minutes. After a shampoo, cut, shampoo, and style, the barber walked me through the whole process so I could recreate the look at home. After spending over a decade in the Army with a buzz cut, it was a great experience being able to take my COVID long hair and turn it into the style I've been curious about for years. Five stars, would recommend. The complimentary first time beverage was a nice touch too.

Have seen this location and heard about this as an option for guys haircuts for a while, finally took the plunge a few weeks ago and gave them a shot. Glad I checked it out! First off, LOVE that they have an actual mobile app that lets you SCHEDULE an appointment with a stylist, rather than just a website where you can "check in online" and get either a first available or pick someone.....and then you may or may NOT get seen at that actual time they give you when you get there. Being able to schedule and select the stylist you want is SO much more convenient, even though it was my first time trying it out. As the name somewhat implies, it's pretty great to be able to get a drink at the attached bar while you wait. And speaking of the name, don't let it fool you into thinking that "scotch" is all they have available. It's a full bar with all of your standard options with a number of cocktails available on their menu. Finally, the haircut itself was a great experience. My stylist was very personable and informative, providing not only a great cut and style but also helpful tips on different products to try out based on some questions I had.

I went to the West Des Moines location and had not only an INCREDIBLE hair cut from Lexi ( who is now a certified elite stylist, shout out!!) But was greated from the rest of the staff like I was a regular. Their online booking system is GREAT (highly recommend booking online, it's easy and quick). With every appointment you get 1 "free" drink( included in the price). Also they have reduced prices for 1st time customers, which you dont see a whole lot. They're just confident you'll come back once you experience it! Seriously can not recommend this place enough, fare prices, and BOMB hair cuts! I actually liked it so much the past few times I asked for a membership for Christmas, so hopefully I'll be seeing them more!!
