The men in my family will not go anywhere else for a haircut. Every time they go in, they walk out with a cut that's nothing short of perfection. Not only do they provide top notch services, but it's a neat little shop, and the staff is incredibly friendly and personable. And you can't beat their prices. They also give some of the best kid's cuts around!

Well I gave them a try. Stopped in yesterday and they don't really do any walk ins. Ok, so I used their app to schedule a tour and went to my appointment. Well, first I went and got cash because they don't use technology for payment just appointments. Got there and they said I didn't have an appointment and didn't offer any solutions other than it was my fault since I didn't do their app right, so I think they probably don't need any more business. They may give good cuts but I'll never know.

Recently moved back to the Des Moines area and was in need of a fresh haircut. Some investigative research led me to Franklin Barbershop. Went in on an early Saturday afternoon and there were two barbers working and about 3-4 customers ahead of me (2 already in chairs). The wait was about 35-40 minutes, not bad at all though it sounded like a tame day due to winter weather. Chuck cut my hair and did a great job. I came in with a few photos of previous cuts I enjoyed for an idea of the style I was going for and he nailed it. The atmosphere is great and the barbers provide the right amount of conversation, not overwhelming, but friendly and fun. I highly recommend Franklin Barbershop if you're looking for a quality, classic cut that is still stylish. Update: $30 for a basic haircut, and well worth the money.

These guys know what they're doing. Hands down the best beard trim and haircut I've had. A lot of places cut hair, but that doesn't mean they're good at it. I've tried several places in town and none seem to get it quite right, especially when it comes to beards. The place has a great vibe and there's good camaraderie between them. They had some proper B movies on for Halloween and there was some worthwhile discussion on the anatomical challenges of an average male compared to celebrities of above average stature. In between topics of conversation you could tell they were intently focused on their primary task, cutting hair.

My nephews are very pleased with their new haircuts. Looking pretty sharp and showed off their new do's all weekend. Five star haircuts, four stars overall. One of the barbers didn't seem super enthused about cutting the kiddo's hair. However, he was a cool dude, gave an outstanding cut, and seemed to warm up a little towards the end. Worth every penny and would certainly recommend and visit again! **I have to provide context for the barber I called out. He was giving my 6yo nephew a fade. His hair hadn't been cut since he was 1yo, so he was going from really long to really short. My nephew wanted me to hold his hand at the beginning of the cut, as he'd never had scissors or clippers that close to his head -- that he could remember. So I am guessing a combination of me being in his work area and filming the cut for the family (this was a pretty big event for us) contributed to a situation that was fairly annoying for the barber. Sorry man and I hope my tip made up for it. :)

My beard trim was reasonably fine but the whole atmosphere, especially banter, felt like if a teenager's notion of what a cool barbershop would be. Also, it is 2021; why can't I pay with card rather than have to withdraw cash with a 3 dollar ATM fee?

Took my boyfriend here tonight because the guy hasn't gotten a decent haircut in the 9 years we've been together. I love him, but it was time for a change. He wanted a casual, affordable place and I wanted one that would get the job done. This place did the trick for us both! Hilarious and genuine staff that really care about what they do, great atmosphere, and a phenomenal cut and beard trim for the best price. Thanks dudes for making my dude look nice. 11/10 will make him head back!

The first time I went here was the best experience I've ever had getting a haircut. They are great guys, give quality cuts, and it is all around a fun place. My reason for the three star. The next two times I had gone, I waited for over an hour and a half and I still had 5 people in front of me. I work 7-6 every day, one night I was able to get off and be there by 6:20, 40 minutes before close. However they were already closed, so I looked in the door where they clearly saw me but did nothing about it. If you have the time to wait almost 2 hours for a haircut I recommend this place, but if you are hoping to get in within an hour, don't even try it.

All the guys here do an excellent job. Very friendly, and the conversation is great (often hilarious). They've got a selection of can beers, water and even beer on tap if you're thirsty while waiting (they don't charge, but c'mon, don't take a beer and not tip). My hair always looks great when I walk out of here. Pricing is fair. The only downside is that these guys have such a good reputation that the place is almost always packed, so be prepared for a wait, even at non peak times.

These guys do good work and have a very chill environment. I've gotten a few great haircuts here but I only go here if I have a couple hours to kill. This is a very busy place and each time I've been here it's been at least 2 hours before I walk out the door. To me it's just a haircut and it's not worth the wait but if you're really paticular or stylish with your hair or facial hair and quality is worth the wait than this is a good place to go.

I was in town for a few weeks and came here because it had good reviews and they accepted walk-ins. Only one person ahead of me when I arrived, not that I'd mind waiting in a place that has coffee and beer on tap. I think it was the best haircut I've ever gotten - without a doubt the best haircut and most attention to detail I think is possible to find for just $20. If I was forced to come up with a criticism, it's only that my hometown barber will feel a letdown after visiting Franklin's Barber Shop.

I’ve used 3/4 barbers there. All 3 I’ve had cut my hair are 5 star barbers. But I do have to tip my hat to Derek. I was making an appointment and saw Derrick as the only available barber, and booked it. (My hair was so long I almost cut it myself). Sat in his chair (he’s got a super cool old school chair) and 30mins later he nails the exact look I wanted. I’ll be back every time because I know I’m getting the best cut in DSM!

This is a great traditional barber shop. Both barbers are very talented and give a great old-school fade. They also offer hot shaves, beard trims, etc. They also have a BBQ thing on the last Sunday of every month. Food, beer, and a cut. Pretty sweet. Very cool guys and a great atmosphere. Excellent barbershop in Des Moines that does traditional hair cuts and straight razor shaves! Very cool atmosphere with odd movies playing in the background. Usually a half-hour wait or more, but it's worth the wait. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for a quality old fashioned haircut!

Great cuts, funky place. This is THE place to go for a classic barber cut. You can get a hip haircut, while still avoiding hipsters. They don't take reservations, but the the conversations and the wait are part of the experience. Now in a new larger location on Beaver Avenue, the decor reminds me of my grandma's basement if she had cheesy 80s movie posters on the walls.

This place is great! Friendly barbers who know what they're doing. Make sure to check out the bathroom while you're there. Sounds weird, I know, but Tom Jones and a disco ball? Can't miss with that combo. Only downside is there aren't reservations available, so you might end up waiting, but there's plenty to look at while you wait.

Haircuts are decent, staffs are friendly, and bad movies makes this place great. Usually wait time is about 30-40 mins during early evening hours. Sometimes it takes 2 hours wait time. However, I feel as if I have some peaceful “me time” if I have to wait couple of hours.
