Update: Dapper refunded me after this review. I appreciate that. I'm sure if I went again at some time I could have fixed it. Or we both could have spotted it but it didn't seem there until a bit later. I've gotten lots of compliments on the hair now though, i'm not showing the cut. ++++++++==========+++++++++==========++++++++ First timer, didn't know what expectations to set for a ~$30 modern haircut in my hometown. I saw good recommendations and reviews for Dapper from my fellow Des Moines friends and booked an 8:30AM appointment using their clean professional website. Good -Cozy 3 client hole in the wall with charm, right next to Java Joes (RIP) -I communicated what I desired (undercut with enough hair on top to bun) and was given suggestions in a professional cordial manner -Taper/undercut was clean, which is a breakthrough for hair options in DSM -They were able to restore my full head (12 inches) of unmaintained covid hair in ~40 minutes Bad -Left a significant sliver of hair above the left sideburn (photos) -I cut a bang weeks before the haircut and felt like I received shame for it when they spotted it (covid hair indifference). I did my best to not make it a big deal, but you might try offering a solution instead of making a joke about it, since this is a barbershop -Cozy... Like if someone else comes in it can feel cramped... Like the other clients are within leg distance cozy... Like if the other client talks about anything it automatically becomes the topic of the entire shop... Other -Not on Dapper really but another client came in midway through my cut and started talking that his friend was "getting married to a korean girl, I bet there will be kimchi, they always love kimchi"... No one said a thing. God Bless America -I didn't expect to have to fix a $50 haircut, but now there are two DIY repairs on my head -The downtown QR/Smart Parking launch failure made parking a joke I do want to come here for the forward cuts (and the mullet cut eventually), but this was a bad first experience for what I paid.

Great place for a cut. Husband got his hair lopped off for the summer heat and he looks great and feels happy (kids got a history of bad barbers). Chill vibes and super professional stylists. A+

It was my first time at Dapper and I can happily say my expectations were met! It was easy to setup an appointment and the haircut was a nice/ chill experience! Cassie cut my hair and she did a fantastic job. 👏🏻 I showed her a couple of pictures for what I was looking for and she did exactly what was requested so I was very happy! I will be back!

Today was my first visit to Dapper DSM and my overall experience was excellent. What you'd expect from a higher caliber barber shop is exactly what you get at Dapper DSM. The barber/hair stylists were polite and easy to talk to, the vibe there is awesome. I felt right at home. Jamie (please excuse me if the spelling is wrong) was extremely professional and she spent a very great deal of time on my beard and hair style. She is very detail oriented and very experienced in her craft. It's not very often I trust stylists with my beard but she did an amazing job! Great place to visit and spend some time in the chair, Thank You guys!

I’ve been here several times and it’s the only place I go. I looked for a while to find a good barber that wasn’t in a hurry. Dapper takes the time to do it right. If you are looking for a good barber shop, this is the place to go!

Fantastic experience top to bottom. Booked with short notice the evening before and was able to get a 9:30 a.m. slot with Jamie. She was definitely an expert and made my hair look great. I was a first-time client and I appreciated the care she took to get to know what I like before cutting my hair.

I couldn't be more impressed with my hair cut and beard trim. My friend has been talking about this place (and Robin) for 2 years. We went to get cleaned up for my wedding on the Friday before and I'm sold. I won't go anywhere else. Jaime cut my hair and was amazing. My hair is thinning but she hid it better than I thought possible. It was 39 bucks. Semi pricey but considering they give you beer (not during covid, had to bring my own) I consider it worth it. I'm happy.

Jamie was AWESOME. I have nothing but completely great things to say. She fit me in same day which is great. It was the absolute best haircut and beard trim I have ever gotten. This place has a very cool vibe to it, as well. Usually getting a haircut seems kind of like a chore to me that I truly try to avoid for as long as possibly. This place, though, I am excited to go back to.

I had such a wonderful experience. I was really nervous to go to a barber for the first time since coming out as trans-- I don't know any of the cool barber lingo, and in the past at salon's I'd occasionally get some rude remarks. But I walked in, the atmosphere was awesome, everyone was so friendly (even the other clients!), and THERE WAS A DOG, who definitely deserves employee of the month. I got a great cut from Emma, and walked out feeling so much more confident and like myself. Super awesome, super inclusive place with great barbers.

A great place to get your hair and beard trimmed. The shop is smaller then your regular salons but it works for what they offer here. They have 3 chairs and the whole place has a classy feel. The leather couch and nice black barber chairs are comfortable. The stylists are very friendly and have a good choice of music playing while you're in there. If you don't know what you want done they have great ideas and make you look good no matter what. They have 3 taps for beer so if you are wanting to partake you seem to have a choice. I thought the use of the pressured air to clean hair off was clever. I left feeling renewed and smelling great. Will be back.

All my friends suggest this place. Emma’s great.(So is everyone else! :). I was in a rush and I couldn’t sit still for some reason. I had a test to do at work and that’s all I was thinking about. You never know what people are going through. But, not only after I showed her the picture she started immediately, she also suggested styles that would best suit me. Every barber I go to tries to match the picture exactly as I show it. Oddly enough, I somehow dislike it in some way. After she was finished I tried to give feedback on some things to what I thought would better the style. She suggested to not do it. After contemplation, I completely agree and going forward I’ll do this style. Thanks Emma for the feedback!

It was 7 PM on Valentine's Day, and I was feeling pretty down after a bad breakup. Not wanting to sit at home, I decided that a fresh haircut seemed like a good distraction. I took the last appointment available from Emmah, and I'm glad I did. I decided to try a bald fade, and she did a fantastic job. Not only that one of the employees came in to play a game with all of us! I had some good times with some great people & a ton of laughs. All in all it was a great experience.

Set up an appointment online at 12:43 for 1:00 got right in, had a beer while I got my beard trimmed! Super chill spot! Will definitely be back when I need a beard trim... If I had hair is get it cut there as well. I did watch one of the ladies cut a gnarly mullet!

Cool atmosphere, the barbers/cosmetologists seem skilled from the cuts I saw walking out. My experience with Emmah was awesome. I got a straight razor head shave, beard trim, and straight razor beard line-up. The head shave was great, and pretty relaxing (I almost fell asleep). It's something I would splurge on every once in a while, but I'm usually okay with shaving my head my self. Same with the line-up, I'm glad I got it, but it's an every once in awhile thing. But she killed it with the beard trim! Best trim I have ever gotten, the shape was on point. I got a couple of compliments a few days after the trim, and I agree, it looks much better than the homeless man trim I do myself. Kudos to Emmah, I'll be sure to be back.

I usually get my haircut by Robin, but have worked with others on the staff and always left feeling like I got a quality cut and that they genuinely appreciate my business. If you've never been, expect banter, a quality playlist and a busy schedule. I usually have to book a week or so out. Don't be 8 minutes late and you should be just fine :)
