Jackie did a great job! One thing I hate about haircuts is the forced awkward small talk, but once she realized I wasn’t the type of person to talk during my haircut, she respected that and let me close my eyes and relax. It was so relaxing that I even fell asleep at one point! She did the exact haircut I requested and even gave me a head massage during the shampoo. Her high skin fade was right on point and I highly recommend Jackie!

My third visit here and I am thrilled by the level of service provided from every employee I've had the pleasure to interact with. While waiting free refreshments are offered for your enjoyment while relaxing in some really comfortable decor. The refreshments include a selection of ice cold beers. All the traditional barber services are provided. Including shaves and beard shaping. Everyone is friendly and the space is inviting. Parking is typical for the 5 points area, there is however a small parking lot available to customers behind the building and the barber shop has a second entrance with access to the parking lot. Look for the image of the barber pole on the door to find the back entrance.

Just moved to Columbia and had to find a new barbershop...I came in and got my hair cut by Jackie and she did an AMAZING job. She knows what she's doing and while I was skeptical of having to find a new barber, I ended up extremely happy because she cuts even better than my last barber. It took her only 15 minutes to do a better job than my last barber who took over 30 minutes. Highly recommend.

Extremely happy and I am pretty skeptical of who is cutting my hair. Regena has done an awesome job and met every expectation. The only complaint for me is the price since I am used to an on-base barber charge, but I am so satisfied that I have already been back. Plan early, slots go quickly.

I have been coming to this place for a couple years now, before I started coming here I used to be very apprehensive about getting my haircut. I usually get simple fades but I have had so many bad experiences with haircuts. If you’re new to getting regular cuts or are unsure of what you want they always seem to be able to give you a cut that looks best for you depending on the style you’re looking for. I have had several different barbers here and I can say I haven’t had a bad experience yet. This place is the best in Downtown Columbia area. Offers a comfortable lounge area, drinks and professional service. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and have already to my family.

Well I couldn’t find my old review so I can change my stars for more stars. You get what you pay for. I finally found a barber that can cut my sons hair. All the barbers were good it’s just his hair is very hard to work with ,His hair is really straight and it’s hard to cut. I have been a regular for about 5 years now and always have had a great experience. My usual barber no longer cuts here, so I decided to give a “new” one a shot due to my previous great experiences. ALEX cut my hair and is “new” to the shop but has more than a decade of experience cutting hair, it shows. Best haircut I’ve had in 5+ years in Columbia. He listened to my suggestions and gave me the cut I truly wanted. A great establishment all around, if you’re new ask for Alex! He did an excellent job and I’ve found my new barber! Complimentary beer doesn’t hurt either!

I started coming here before COVID took its toll on the local economy. I love the atmosphere and all the barbers are great. I have used Caleb and Mack and they have done great jobs on myself and my boys. Their scheduling system is phenomenal in that it can project out any date and time you’d like and then it sends you reminders the day before and day of your appointment. So long as we live in Columbia SC this will be my place to get my haircut.

From the moment I walked in, this was a superior experience. Being offered a beer while I waited was cool, but I had a great time with Regina, who cut my hair and trimmed my beard to perfection. My wife was very impressed when I met her afterwards, and that was the best endorsement I can give. I was also happy that, while the service was excellent and definitely of a "premium" quality, the atmosphere was that of a pure, good old fashioned barbershop. I'll be returning for certain.

It was the best haircut I have ever had in my life. She asked for my input about my preferences throughout my haircut and even gave me a suggestion about how the back should be done. I have had my hair cut here about five times over the course of two years. I would describe it as a 10/10 environment, as they have a great drink selection and a great ambience. The customer service is often good too but the actual haircut itself is inconsistent. A "half inch scissor cut off of the top" sometimes means "two inches off the top" here and other times means "half an inch". As someone whose hair doesn't grow fast, this is extremely frustrating. I understand that mistakes can happen and not all barbers are the same person but, regardless, I want the haircut I ask for, not the haircut someone feels like giving me. The clipper work has also been inconsistent. I've had great fades from this place before with very clean lines all around while other times I leave with a very jagged and uneven cut. Although I truly enjoy the setting and the feel of the place-- I don't enjoy paying over $30 (after tip) for a haircut that is on par with GreatClips/SportClips.

I got there at a little after 6pm needing my hair cut for a picture the next morning. The receptionist told me that they didn't have any spots available. As I described what I needed, Crystal overheard and said she would squeeze me in right quick. I was offered a drink and sent to the chair. Crystal was quick and efficient and got my hair cut exactly the way I wanted it. This shop is one of a kind and will become a stop for me anytime I am in the area. If you want a good haircut this is the place and remember you get what you pay for. Awesome 👍👍👍

I've always had an amazing experience at Southern Gentleman's. First off, how can you beat a place that offers you whiskey upon checking in?! Each time I have had an appointment I have been treated with great hospitality from the appointment booking to payment. The barbers really know their stuff and have always done a great job with both my hair cuts and beard trims. A little bit pricey but more than well worth it for the experience. Not only do they do a fantastic job as barbers, but are also very helpful when it comes to deciding on any products. Definitely check them out.

I highly recommend Jackie if anyone is looking for a professional and tight fade. I naturally have coarse hair with a thick follicle and medium porosity. This means that my hair density is lower than folks with thin, delicate hair. As a result, my hair is VERY unforgiving and will show lines or poor blending if the fade is not near perfect. Jackie, however, gave one of if not the best fade I’ve ever received. She is very attentive, extremely friendly, and very knowledgeable about how to care for various hair types. (I swam professionally and still subject my hair to chlorine regularly.) Having visited many barbers and salons with stylists who just nod and do whatever they want, Jackie actively engages with you to make sure she executes exactly what you want. For example, I hate when people completely shave off their sideburns, giving them this creepy televangelist or Lego hair. I prefer to have my sideburns stop at the tragus, which is the pointy part of the outer ear. I couldn’t be happier with the result. You will not regret requesting Jackie for a shave, eyebrow waxing, or haircut.

I absolutely love this place! There is a barber and stylist there named Chelsea, and she is by far one of the best stylists that has ever faded me. She is incredibly professional, and listens to my exact needs. I now have a new regular barber. If you take your hair or fades seriously, then look no further than Chelsea at Southern Gentleman's Barbering Company. 10/10, and would definitely reccommend for a top notch men's cut or fade. 💯

I don’t even know where to begin. From the moment I Day in that chair for the first time, the barber made me feel like we had a report of two life long friends.... mind you that was the first barber. The last Two times I have been there The other barbers made me feel the same. What I absolutely love about this professional establishment is the esthetic feel you get as soon as you walk through those doors. The whole layout is symmetrical and every station has their tools of the trade organized in a manner that shows the quality of care you are about to receive. Went in today, after not having a haircut for about 2-3 years. Skeptical on what to expect as I had grown two feet of hair without stepping into any place of business for haircuts. Got there at 9 to setup an appointment, and Derek took me right away. We talked and chit chatted as he worked through layers, and I mean layers of hair. After some tough work, which he never stopped or took a break or anything, my hair looked exceeded my expectations. I’ve gotten compliments all day. After the cut, Derek told me he had only been cutting hair for 8 months, when it looked like he had been doing it for years. Great attention and determination for what they do in there. Welcoming staff all the way around, didn’t meet an employee who didn’t have a smile on their face and nice things to say. 10/10 would recommend and I’m going back soon!

I arrived early as parking in the area can sometimes be an issue. No issue today so I was about 20 min early for my appointment. The wait was less than 5 min. and Angela was ready for me. She was patient and talked me through my "uncertainties" about a new-to-me cut/style. Very pleased with the visit. Thanks, Angela! UPDATE: A follow-up visit about 1 month later was not as good as the first visit. Perhaps I am too needy but for the price paid for my cut and beard trim, I do not feel I should have to ask my wife to touch up the work when I get home. Also, barber seemed less interested in offering opinions/recommendations for my cut.

I have lived in Columbia nearly ten years now and this is by far the best barber shop I've been to. I heard about Southern Gentleman from a friend and have been coming ever since. I was a walk in the first time and got paired up with Brandon. The attention to detail was the biggest factor for me. I was tired of being rushed in and out of the chair and not be satisfied with the end results and that is no longer a problem since I've met Brandon and Southern Gentleman. The laid back atmosphere and cold drinks don't hurt their case either. Getting a haircut now has become a time that I can get away, relax, enjoy a drink and get a great haircut as well. I now look forward to this time every so often and usually make my next appointment before I leave.

Absolutely amazing. Walked in without an appointment at 7:15 on a whim expecting to make an appointment and come back. I was offered a drink (and was tempted with the Jameson, but it was near close), sat me down right then and there, trimmed my sides, gave me a hard part, shaved my neck, and then only charged me for a touch up. Many places would have charged full price. I was out the door so quickly I didn't even get anyone's name! I love this place, I'll be sure to come back.

Oh boy. I love this place. Southern Gentleman’s is not just a barber ship, it’s an experience. A little pricier than your average haircut, but the complimentary drinks (alcohol, ranging from beers to spirits, coffee, soda, etc.) and quality of the haircut itself make it worth it. I don't usually post reviews but they deserve one plus some. Long story short these guys are my normal barber but made a bad decision and went elsewhere for once and got a really bad cut from a different "classy" barber in Columbia. I realized my mistake and came back to them to see if they could fix it, with no appt, and them being slammed, the manager stopped what he was doing, offered me a drink, and spent over 30 minutes fine tuning my bad haircut. Then didn't charge me at the end, which I did not anticipate at all. If it isn't broken don't fix it, these guys are far from broken, and should be a go to for anyone who wants a good cut for a good price in a professional environment. Plus they have bourbon! Will be back everytime no matter what from now on!

Great place to get a haircut in SC. Edit several months later: I originally just reviewed SGBCo when I first arrived in SC from TX, and gave it a simple review. Now that it has been months later I feel like it needs more of a total comprehensive review overall since the place is great. Location: Located in downtown (somewhat) the problem is that parking is sparse with all the spots in the general area being metered parking. Bring some loose change because the meter maid in the area isn't any joke. There is a small unpaid lot behind the shop you can park in but it is normally full by after 10am. Staff: Grouping these together because they're one in the same in some regards. From the moment you call to make an appointment or from when you enter the door you are greeted with a smile and friendly hello (no, you can't see the smile on the phone but you can feel it). You're checked in with ease and given a complementary choice of beverage (soda, water, beer, liquior). Drinks are mixed enough so you're not tipsy when you leave the shop, but they're not all mixer either. I have dealt with many different people working the front counter and all of them are extremely friendly and chatty. Haircut: Excellent. The barbers will all work with you in regards to what you want and get it perfect. I haven't talked to a single person who has come to the shop who has been disappointed with their hair cut. My barber of choice is Danny and he hooks it up with a good military hair cut every single time. I can just sit in the chair and he does his thing. It's great to have found a place where I'm a regular and they know me by face/name alone. Odds and Ends: The haircuts are slightly expensive ranging around 25 dollars for a dry cut, so definitely be aware of that before you come in for the first time. Appointments are a must because of the general busy nature of the shop so plan ahead. Great place to go and I will be a customer for as long as I live in the Columbia, SC area.

If your looking for a proper haircut, look no more. SGB has extremely experienced barbers both male and female, super laid-back hip atmosphere and a little lounge where you wait with a drink in hand. The hot towel and neck massage is definitely something to look forward to. I've been going there for about a year and always walk out feeling like a million bucks. And word is they're about to start doing chair massages for a dollar a minute. This place is always improving the atmosphere and The service keeps getting better and better.
