When looking for a new credit union last year I was recommended to try Affinity Plus by my best friend after she had enjoyed her experience with them. I was able to sign up for an account hassle free, and when I had questions the staff was friendly and available with little wait both on the phone and in person. Their online banking is far more user friendly than my previous credit union, and their fraud prevention features such as text alerts and the option to freeze your card are super handy. When my brother moved to the area from out of state I was confident in recommending he open an account here.

I opened savings accounts here for my children when they were young (about 4 & 6) because I wanted someplace they could start learning about saving. It was the only bank around that had no minimum balance or fees. They even got piggy banks when they opened their accounts! My kids loved it, and the tellers have always been very kind, patient, and helpful when I bring my kids in to teach them about how to make deposits, endorse checks, get cash back, etc.
Now my kids are teenagers and the tellers offer them ideas about other ways to save and manage their money as efficiently as possible. While they still have a few years until they're completely on their own, it's reassuring to me that they have an established relationship with a bank that takes this type of personal interest. It's clear that this bank (near the University of MN campus) is set-up to help young adults make wise financial decisions.
Yes, sometimes the wait in line is a little long, but that's true at the larger, impersonal banking juggernauts who would not provide this same level of personal service.

Love Affinity, no surprise fees, very helpful customer service. Bonus rewards are decent, financial products they are good products. Their savings accounts are really really great for members after 6 months, not so great for non-members or members who recently joined.

The Credit Union itself is great, the people who work there are fantastic at customer service and are respectful of all kinds of customers. My one negative comment, which is the reason for the 3 star rating, is that the wait times in line are just ridiculous. Even before the pandemic, you had to plan 30-45 minutes just for standing in line. The drive through for the past year+ requires 45-90 minutes "spare" time for waiting in line. I don't know what the problem is - could be the number of staff on the windows, or coukd be that the expectation of the number of reps per line is unrealistic, could be any number if things. However, management has had ample time to figure it out, yet hasn't. It's a real problem in terms of time, gas and the cost burning it while sitting in line, etc., and I'm beginning to look around for quicker options where in-person banking is necessary in my life.

Matt was amazing! He did a complete account/loan tune up for my husband and I. He was so friendly, fun to talk to and spent a lot of time explaining all the steps and information to us. Affinity Plus has been my credit union for more than five years. I love them! They are loyal and transparent. I see people with accounts on big banks suffering from all sort of hidden and new fees. This doesn't happen often with Affinity. This is why I trusted them!

My friend needed a personal loan for a last minute school expense and Matt was very helpful and talked us through the important details, talked my friend through understanding his credit score, and also informed me that I could refinance my auto loan for a much lower interest rate, which he then did for me. He got us everything we went there for and then some. He was also hella fun to talk to.

I adore Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union! My mom signed me up for an account when I was a teenager, I bought my mortgage from them, I'm working with one of their financial advisors, and just two days ago they processed my auto loan and cut me a check in 1.5 hours!! The customer service is stellar, their speed matches the pace of our digital age, and I feel seen, respected, and taken care of by both the institution and the people it employs. I get that we need to social distance and all of that. It's frustrating they haven't figured out a way to help customers that don't have cars, in a timely manner! For some reason the bike lane is always the slowest to recieve help. I've learned to not stand in that line anymore. Why do cars get to use that lane anyway? I've had to yell at a few people for nearly hitting me. I have to inhale people's exhaust for a soild 20 minutes and It's cold out! I now dread the days I have to get a cashier's check to get my rent paid. I know I'm not the only one in the area that chooses to not have a car. Something to consider, Affinity Plus...I don't see covid ending any time soon.

Four years and a half later, this bank is still my favorite! I kept my account even though I’m not in Minnesota. Great customer service! I really wish there were ATMs for members to deposit money outside MN.

Credit Unions equal awesome. This one is even better then most. Some reviews are down about customer service but as a 15yr member and 10yr service industry employee I can say those fears are unfounded and pointless. Sometimes people have bad days but I haven't noticed a dispositionally low quality of service here verses anywhere else in any industry. This bank rocks for these reasons: other than the overdraft fee there are no fees even the overdraft is forgiven once a year or waved if you are active (there is a point system), lose your card need a replacement asap no prob they print replacements in the bank and not temp replacements real deals, need checks for some weird reason ur old or something no problem they will print you some off on the spot or if you are active get a book mailed (so ur like super old and need a book) for free, buying a house they have a program where the real estate agent will wave one off the closing cost fees which was nice, online phone app is just as functional as my wife's wells Fargo app check deposits, they work with another bigger bank I think wells Fargo so you can use all their bank site ATMs for free, most locations are open Saturday morning now. There's more like they have their banks spread out across MN but this review is too long as it is.

Affinity is a great credit union. They really care about their customers and give 110% to help with your financial problems. My only complaint is that if you go anytime there is a line, it frequently takes 30 minutes just to speak to a teller. This is frustrating when I need to do something on my lunch break or anytime I have anything else happening that day.
