I will start by saying I have never banked with a credit union before and had heard nothing but great things about them! I decided it was time to become a member. As a long time bank industry employee myself, I knew what to expect from the larger chain banks when it came to loans and new accounts. I must say I was pleasantly surprised when I called Desert Financial and spoke with Keith Daukas in the ebranch, new accounts department. He was kind and very knowledgeable. Again, being in the industry myself I was throwing a fair amount of questions and concerns his way. Keith was able to answer all of my questions with confidence and was able to educate me on the credit union world. Keith was able to walk me through the website where I found current rates and products. He was able to discuss products that would better fit my needs from CD's to Minor accounts. Keith's extensive knowledge was both impressive and refreshing! He was a pleasure to work with!

I spoke with a young lady named Melanie the first time and she was more than pleasant, she was engaging and very helpful. Her kindness, made my day! The process from application to sign docs was fast and easy. Darrell Couch was our loan officer and he provided excellent customer service - taking time to walk us through the process, set expectations and answer any questions that arose. I am so glad we switched banks from Chase to DCFU - the credit union provides a higher level of service and now we are spoiled for the big banks! Case in point - 11 years after a bankruptcy, with a credit score of over 720 and about 6% outstanding debit, Chase still denies us a credit card. I find this insulting and arbitrary. DCFU welcomed our business and made us feel valued and respected.

When I moved to Phoenix from my retirement home in Costa Rica in 2011, I was at a loss for what bank to use. My real estate agent suggested Desert Financial, since that was the institution she had used for years with nothing but good experiences. That has been good advice. Since that time I have used Desert Financial for home purchases several times, used their wills & trust department, & several automobile transactions, PLUS the best thing about doing business with Desert Financial is their employees. Keith Daukas has been my "go-to" banker for many years he has severed me admirably during that time. Helping many times with investments as well as day to day transactions. I feel that he has become a friend as well as my banker, But all of the tellers at my local branch make me feel special by greeting me by name whenever I come in. I sold a car once and stopped by the bank to have the bill of sale notarized. Keith Daukas greeted me by name and performed the task. When we left, the man who had bought the car commented "You must have an account with millions of dollars in it. Every employee in the branch ( about 5 people total) greeted you by your first name. I have been with the same bank for decades and no one calls me by name". I replied that I didn't have anywhere close to a million in the bank and that perhaps he should open an account with Desert Financial to receive great treatment the same as me!

If you want to not only know, but to really experience the difference between service and serving, you need to meet Atsahry Galindo, Desert Financial Credit Union Member Advocate! ‘Service’ is transactional. “Serving’ is transformational. Service is relevant whereas serving is relational. We all know what it’s like to get what we need AND to still feel as though that it really didn’t matter who we really were. The service may have been individualized, but it most certainly wasn’t personalized... And then you meet and work with someone like Atshary and you think, “Why do I continually feel as though I am being treated like her friend or her family?” She relates as a refinancer and as a relative, so educational and empowering, so genuine and generous. There is just something more to her! Desert Financial financially 'services' you by financially 'serving' you. I can’t recommend Atsahry Galindo and this credit union enough!

Atsahry was FABULOUS! She was so patient and encouraging while I tried to find a car. My car was 17 years old when it died, so I was not used to buying cars. The car market was crazy because dealers had no stock, and I was getting frustrated because I just could not find a car for us, but Atsahry was very helpful and reassuring. He took the time to carefully answer each one of my questions, helped me understand in full detail the processes of what I needed, and even walked me through options that I didn't know were available to me. He helped me through the process and was an absolute joy to work with along the way. So far, I have nothing but good things to say about my experience. I like that Desert Financial is taking the safety of their people seriously and opting into a fully online option for those who do not wish to travel, or are unable to travel to a physical branch. I had a long day of calling my old bank and was waiting on hold for hours, having them hang up on me while still in cue. I recently opened an account here at desert financial, and the service i've received here in the two short days i've had my account open beats every conversation i ever had in the last 2 years with my previous bank. Not only did Samuel give me a call just to make sure I was getting the hang of things, but they left a voicemail as well with their name, and letting me know they're there to help. When I called back, they were out for the day, but I spoke with Tammy Tracy and their service also blew me away. They were funny, knowledgeable about everything I asked about, and even gave me options to look for and where to find them. I'm pretty new to having any sort of credit card, and Tammy was able to explain everything in detail to me without trying to push anything on me, and let me ask as many questions as I wanted to, without sounding annoyed or bored, which i really appreciated. Working a customer-facing role myself, I understand the dedication that it takes to speak with customers all day, even when you get some bad calls, you make the next one great. Tammy showed that commitment to the company and if this is what every representative is like, I don't think i'll ever change who i bank with ever again. I have been a member over 30 years. In the 1990s when my backpack with my ID, cell phone etc was stolen they called immediately. Someone was trying to wire transfer the maximum out of the country. They stopped it and saved me from losing anything but a gas tank of gas. When my mother-in-law passed they were very helpful and explained everything. Just today we decided to look into refinancing our home. There have been growing pains with them, but I still prefer them to any other bank I’ve ever dealt with. I worked for Valley National Bank so I know the staff truly make the difference. Desert Financial staff really do make the difference!

The initial call was great but beyond that, this was a really frustrating experience which was disappointing considering how easy our first loan was. (I am not sure why an auto dealership handles things more smoothly than the CU does.) Specifically, it took weeks (with me having to call and ask about statuses) and in this day and age of tech and mobile notaries, making your Tucson customers go up there to sign is really frustrating. Then we were in the branch, on our way back from a San Diego trip to avoid another trip that way, for about an hour because we signed titling/registration docs that were wrong. We had to wait too long for them to be reprinted. We are reasonable people but this process seemed beyond reason in 2021.
