Fresh & delicious. Have been there twice now and it tasted better today. We had the carrot cake with nuts and raisins. It was iced right in front of us and was still warm. Also tried the chocolate cupcakes. Delicious and so fresh! You really need to try their cakes. Worth the trip.

Eating the carrot cake is love at first bite! The carrot cake and the carrot muffins are so delicious, you will surely go back for more. They have two versions of the carrot cake, one with walnuts and raisins, and one without. I gobbled up the cake so fast I did not get a picture of it. Lloyd's Carrot Cake Bakery is an iconic landmark located on Broadway in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The bakery has been in business for more than three decades. You will usually see a lot of people going in and out of the bakery because it is a popular place. Entering the bakery you will be greeted by friendly staff and a pleasant orange and white theme. Across the street there is Van Cortlandt park, a nice place to relax and enjoy your carrot cake. Lloyd's Carrot Cake Bakery really is "Bakers Of The World's Finest Carrot Cake" as it says on the bag. If you have never been there before I really recommend you go.

Delightful, delectable homemade cakes and cupcakes... everything is made from scratch...you will never buy plain old store bought cake after eating Lloyd's Carrot Cake...just Yum to the 10th degree!!! It's worth the trip to Broadway just across the street from Van Cortland Park.

I don't even like carrot cake, but I will come here specifically for this carrot cake. How it stays so moist, I don't even want to think about, but lord is this a dessert from the heavens. It was delicious when I was there in high school and it's just as delicious going back as an adult. Bless you, Lloyd's carrot cake. EDIT: had to remove a star as the service at their Manhattan location is not appreciated. The man working the counter had a bad attitude and made the experience there unpleasant. Cake is great, but the poor service will stop me from going back for a while

Never in my life.....this carrot cake is the real deal. They run a tight ship and I always order ahead just to be sure I'll get my cake when I want it. The frosting is melt in your mouth (not usually a huge cream cheese frosting fan but they know what they're doing) and the cake itself is beautifully balanced. Every bite is truly a perfect bite.

I picked up three carrot cakes, two as thank you presents and one for a birthday for someone in a skilled nursing facility. Needless to say, EVERYONE who had the cakes, kept talking about how moist, decadent, and delicious it was. When I gave a piece to the chef at the facility and head of food services, they said they were in absolute heaven. The nurses and other staff wouldn't leave their wrapped up plates, so they took it everywhere with them. Anyone who knew of Lloyd's ran to get a piece, and those who never had it are now devoted in agreement this is THE BEST one they've ever had. They decorated the birthday cake beautifully and it was fresh, rich and delicious. Thanks Lloyd's you made several very happy people last week. 😊

Ok while searching for the best carrot cake in nyc for my son who just turned 13 this weekend but really is an old timer on the inside requests this cake for his big born day annually... this place repeatedly came up in every message board and article that was produced for this half healthy half decadent cake. So of course had to travel the 50 min car ride to get this elusive creation for my kid. They offer a plain just carrot version and a version with walnuts and raisins. My preference would be the nuts and raisin one but since I was feeding more than myself and plus it was the birthday boys choice so plain carrot it was, however in my own style of reading I had to also pick up a few individual slices of each cake and also a vanilla cake with pineapple filling with coconut cream cheese frosting too. So the verdict.... YES! BELIEVE THE HYPE! This cake was oh my lort delicious. The ONLY criticism everyone that had it said was that they really should make it a layered cake and put some of that amazing cream cheese frosting between layers in the middle. Maybe it can be special ordered that way?? You can also custom order cakes a few days in advance and they offer other flavors like red velvet and pineapple filled out chocolate frosting filled too. I liked that the cake wasn't leveled to death and made to look very home made. I did think it was odd that they had all the cakes made and already tied up to go so you couldn't see whether or not the cake or frosting had any issues. 1 star off because they didn't layer the frosting and their cake decorator was not available to after 2...but still a delicious cake and we'll be back for more very soon!

Perfectly moist with raisins & walnuts inside and a thin layer of frosting on top (not overdone on the frosting like most places) Don't like raisins in your carrot cake? I suggest you grow up. Seeing Ruth Bailey back there baking with that "scowl" on her face shows that she means business about the quality of their legendary carrot cakes. 🙂 You won't find a better one in the city nor anywhere else. My mother loves the carrot cake from Lloyd's Carrot Cake. They make it in an absolutely Delicious Way. For so many years my mother wants the carrot cake from there, & no where else for her birthday so we get it for her. I'm going to be honest I never cared for carrot cake unless it's from there. My mother loves it either way, but for her birthday it has to be from Lloyd's Carrot Cake.

Best cake for the price. Other gourmet bakeries in Manhattan will charge an arm and a leg for a slice of cake (upwards of $10). I find Lloyd's to be the best bang for the buck as far as cake goes. Tastes amazing!

I went for a slice of Carrot Cake with Walnut’s & Raisins Homemade, Fresh, Light, Really Tasty With gorgeous frosting thats not to over sweet, compliments the cake so well Bakery next door, so you see them being made and the lovely smells. Guy who served me was really friendly and helpful Huge slice for $3.25 which is a bargain, could not finish all in one sitting Van Cortlandt Park directly opposite, so a great place to chill out and eat cake :)

It is a true Insider Tip! If you like carrot cake, you’ll love this one. Simply amazing! They are there for decades and still are hand crafting the cake from scratch, right there in a little bakery. Their little secret I guess: FRESH, fresh, fresh, not so sweet and not too heavy. The delicious smell of cake welcomes you already far before you can see the store. Just don’t go right before Thanksgiving as it is CRAZY busy! And I’m happy for them! They deserve it.

No doubt, the best carrot cake I’ve ever had. It’s a small, family owned, no frills spot, which is why I love it. They managed to get the icing on the cake perfect and the cake is always fresh and moist. Sometimes they have cupcakes which is a nice option if you don’t want a big slice. The only reason I took a star away is because they once ran out of carrot cake! So definitely worth the visit and the calories - just beware that they may run out on the day of your visit!

I personally like the plain carrot cake the best, but they have lots of other options to choose from. They will also bring your cake out to your car. They are closed Sundays through the summer.

i have been enjoying Lloyd's carrot cakes since 1987 when a coworker turned me on to them. I can't go to certain family gatherings unless i bring a Lloyd's carrot cake. Yes I have waited on lines for two and three hours when I've gone at the last minute for a holiday (that's a hint, don't wait !!!). For those who don't realize it, Lloyd's is a wholesaler so I don't worry about whether customer service is fantastic or not. I just thank God they are there (they were closed for a time when they refurbished and expanded) and enjoy my "best ever" carrot cake. (My wife, the "chocoholic" loves their Dutch chocolate cake). Peace and love to the family and RIP Lloyd.

the carrot cake is indeed very good, but the frosting took away from it. the frosting had either none or not enough cream cheese, and the cake needs a second layer of frosting. they only had carrot cake and one other kind of yellow cake when I went, which isn’t a problem, but just a note incase you come here expecting to find more options. it would be nice if they had mini and regular carrot cupcakes, with proper frosting, and maybe a few more novel frosting options to easily have more variety while staying with just carrot cake.

Carrot cake has never been my favorite type of cake to eat, but Lloyd's Carrot Cake is on ANOTHER LEVEL!! ! Lloyd's is hands down the best carrot cake I have ever tasted. The light cake filling, the smooth creamy icing, the delicious carrot taste, all combine to create an ICON unlike any other! People come from all over the city to eat at Lloyd's and I understand why! Lloyd's has the best carrot cake in NYC!!! So of course a visit to the store can be frustrating because they almost always run out of Carrot cake, sometime before noon and especially the day before a holiday. Ordering cakes a day or two ahead is my recommendation. If it's a special occasion, I would call a week or two in advance find out what their policy is how long it would take to make your special order cake. If you wait until the last minute you maybe disappointed. All that said, Lloyd's carrot cake is worth the trouble.

I didn’t like carrot cake until I tried Lloyd’s. Now it’s one of my favorites. This is a must if you’re in Riverdale. Their non-carrot cake options (including red velvet, chocolate, etc) are nothing special. But you shouldn’t come here for that anyway.

This is a really popular place and for good reason. You want the best carrot cake in the city, this is your place. Keep in mind they are extremely busy during the holiday season. Lines can be long, out the door and down the block. Just bring you patience, a good book, and a smile. The wait is worth it!

Lloyd's carrot cake is simply one of the best I've ever had, and I'm comparing to other well known bakeries in upper Manhattan. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that, in their round cakes, they don't add a layer of frosting in the middle of the cake, and I live for that frosting! The cake is less sweet than that at comparable bakeries, so the wonderful sweetness of the cream cheese frosting doesn't come across as cloying. Lloyd's isn't a secret to those of us who live near one of their locations but more New Yorkers should plan it as a destination stop after a good long run, walk or bike ride in Van Cortlandt Park!!

Definitely good. Very good. Front of the house lacks in terms of a retail atmosphere, but that’s expected as it seems to be more so a wholesale operation. Just need to improve packaging as the cake is kind of smushed in the container, and it is a little unappealing in my opinion. Taste/texture is very good though. Price point is ok for me as well.

I go for the Red Velvet, which isn't always available. Lloyd's cakes are made with the perfect texture to dip it in the mind blowing frosting! THE FROSTING MAKES AND TAKES THE CAKE!! I'm not a carrot cake person but I tried Lloyd's and can say that it's awesome because there aren't any weird bite combinations like other carrot cakes I've tried. There is a distinct flavor, kind of like the molasses in a ginger cookie or something to their carrot cake and the carrot texture blends right in to the moistness of the rest of the cake. I'm still all about that red velvet though ;-) Small place, but call and place an order for a whole cake if you're looking for anything other than carrot. Comes with and without nuts and raisins. Neighborhood gem!

Would give 5 stars if customer service was as good as thier cakes. Young man told me cakes would be ready in a hour, put my name on a list, came back an hour later and ask are cakes ready he says no, I asked how long he says he doesn't know maybe half an hour. Get it together. Worst part is they do not take online orders or phone orders, this may help you guys out. Hospitality classes are also available for unprofessional employees.
