We live in MD and drove an hour to get to Serpe & Sons. WELL WORTH THE DRIVE! We're originally from NY, and miss the high quality Italian Pastries we got there. I've had a craving for authentic, traditional Napoleon, so we thought we'd try Serpe & Sons. The Napoleon was incredible! Brought us back to our childhood! The cream had the perfect texture and sweetness, with beautifully crafted phyllo dough layers, and the vanilla royal icing with chocolate drizzled on top was phenomenal. My mouth is watering just remembering the taste. We didn't stop with just ordering Napoleon! We had a sausage loaf which we loved. Similar to a Stromboli, but the sausage was crumbled, and the cheese was creamy and delicious. I tasted it cold first, and I really liked it! But it's exponentially better heated. SO good. We had little bite-size pies/tarts (pictured). DELICIOUS! We tried key lime, apple, and cherry. Each was as good as the next. We weren't fans of the mini cannoli,, but to be honest, we didn't expect to. They're pre-filled, and the cannot shell gets soft. But the cream was delicious. The cream puffs were great, as were the cream-filled clams! We'll surely be back!!a. You've got to try this place!

This bakery is an enigma. I can't figure it out. Prices through the roof with certain specialties that are hit or miss... given the prices (pretty darn high). I will admit their tomato pies are 10/10 delicious. My whole family enjoys them immensely and they're just tomato sauce on pizza crust served at room temperature. But quite remarkable in taste and satisfaction (and worth the price). They were extremely busy and understaffed the week before Christmas, but the staff kept their cool and provided excellent service with smiles on their faces. Italian Christmas cookies are superb and were a highlight of our holiday. Woukd make a great seasonal gift. Sfogliatella and brownies not so great. Lots of different items to try so I'll be back for sure, but don't forget your wallet! You'll need it.

I ordered cupcakes at last minute for my moms birthday. Serpes was very accommodating and had them ready with short notice. The cupcakes were very delicious. Thanks for making my moms 92nd birthday very special. Their tomato pie is also very good. I recommend them very highly.

The desserts were really good. I haven't had a good tiramisu in a VERY long time. This place makes it good. I would give 5 stars if they were a little more affordable.

Well the tomato pie is always on point. I just got some of their jumbo steak/sub rolls and omg they are so soft. They tasted amazing using them for my home made steak sandwich. My girl friend said we are also going to use them to make home made french bread pizza

I live in the Philly area and ive had tomato pie from many places in the drea. Serpes is wort the trip to Elsemere. Thanks to Joe Cannova for turning me on to this place

I got a loaf of italian bread. It was good. Maybe not the best ever, but definitely better than what you would get at a grocery store. It was $2.50 which I thought was a good price.

I came here late on a Friday morning and was a little surprised how many people were there. It was my first time here and I just wanted to get an idea of the food so I ordered a mini cannoli, a chocolate covered donut and a sticky buns. Everything was good but, but we need to talk about the sticky bun. It was giant. Like 8 inches long giant. What I thought was 6 rolls ended up being one. One that only cost $4 and ended up being 3 days of breakfast.

Only 4 stars because of how busy they are all the time. Not their fault, it's because the deserts and rolls are so good. But they go through employees left and right because they are stressed out so busy. Which leads to new people and being understaffed. Leading to errors. Even with Covid they stayed extremely busy once opened again. I read a review from some guy about how he was so upset his order was delayed/late because they were Sooo busy. Guy said "it was Xmas Eve and a mad house" but doesn't matter he wanted his order on time. Now, when ordering by phone you can expect something to go wrong. Happens a lot they're so busy. Go do it in person. The employees are working every holiday and go in at 4-5am each day to have your deserts, bread, and pies ready. Give the employees a break! They work hard and make delicious items.

During the holidays, the shop is always busy. This year, the line was out the door and all the way across the side of the building. However, the Serpe's team did a wonderful job at keeping the line moving. The staff was friendly and helpful. The tomato pie was good, as always. The Italian pastries did not disappoint. Products were fresh and delicious. Recommend visiting if you're not planning to make your own homemade pastries.

I recently ordered a birthday cake over the phone for a family party. The cake was really beautiful and a huge hit. People are still asking where we got it. I will say that the customer service is not amazing, but it's not a big enough issue to keep me from coming back.

Serpes never fails to deliver when purchasing the most delicious birthday cakes! I highly recommend the chocolate with white icing but all types are worth a try. They also offer a great selection of rolls & sweets. Staff is friendly & helpful. Call ahead to make sure they have the special item your looking for because it's a popular local bakery and items go quickly!

I walked in around 2pm on Sunday no other customers in the shop about 6 people came in 2min later the staff was very quick to wait on people we were out of there real quick they have the best Tomato Pie and really great rolls. I wish I lived closer I ❤ Serpe's Bakery

Serpe's is a local, 1-location bakery, well-known in the neighborhoods west of Wilmington. Great, tasty products. On the down side, they can be a little pricey compared to the competition, and in my experience, they are not very flexible when asked to go outside their standard operating procedure. When a particular pie goes out of season, they won't make you one as a special order. Even when you offer them a premium price to "grease the wheels." Additionally, when you call them by phone and ask if they can hold an item for you for an hour until you can come pick it up, they insist you buy it first. I wanted to pay cash once I got there. It must be nice to be so successful that you can take an inflexible, uncooperative attitude with your customers. Three stars for the goodies. Zero stars for the service.

Great bakery. I always order my wife's birthday cakes from here. They're really detailed and the butter cake is amazing. You can literally smell the cake as soon as you walk in the room. I've also had the tomato pie and it was good.

Serpe's is always a great experience. Whether you're just looking for a morning danish, fresh bread or a pie they always have a great selection. Now they have Italian food specialties, Woodside ice cream, all kinds of stuff. I never leave without pepperoni bread!

Serpe & Sons is something special. The tomato pie is phenomenal- about the best I've had, and tomato pie is one of my favorites since I was a kid. I also tried the sausage filled bread, which was just perfect. All of the desserts were delicious as well - tarts, carrot cake, and of course cannoli! I was raised in central PA in a small town that was mostly Italian. We had 6 or so little Italian bakeries and I grew up eating their tomato pie. It has been so many years since I've left that area, but this took me right back. I went on to live a majority of my adult life on Mott St in New York's Little Italy and the sweets at Serpe & Sons bypassed the expectations they set. Although I live 2 hours from Serpe & Sons, I will be back, and I'll be back often. A friendly team and a great experience.

This is the place to be for baked goods! Their tomato pie is the best! I picked up a birthday cake and it was awesome! Homemade cream cheese icing is so good! Definitely worth a stop!

Usually love their products, but today I picked up a cake that was not what I ordered at all. Very disappointed but I was in a rush to make a big fuss. The associate who took my order wrote everything correctly, but whoever decorated the cake did not look correctly. It was a last minute cake so I’m appreciative that they made the cake for me, but disappointed it was not what I wanted at all.. Paid a decent amount too...

I've used this bakery on several occasions. Most recently, I received cupcakes from here, for my birthday. They were SUPER DELICIOUS and the cake was the perfect consistency. I will definitely be using them, again. I definitely recommend these folks to anyone, especially for special occasions. If you want it done right, get it from Serpe's!

Customer service is wonky. Its either great or absolutely horrible. Why wear gloves to touch baked goods, then adjust their hair or take my cash while wearing the same gloves! I love their petit fores, but as of late they taste like refrigerator. Disgusting. I was considering purchasing a small sheet of their peanutbutter slice cake but the woman said it would be about 65$ for 1/4 sheet cake!

Everytime I come back to Delaware this is the bakery I visit every single time. The tomato pie is to die for! If you like garlic in big chunks you will love the tomato pie. It is Sicilian style, and the sauce is out of this world. I've never seen another bakery, and I've been to a lot of Italian bakeries, that does tomato pie quite likes Serpe's. I can never get enough of their polish chrusciki. Once my mom got me a chocolate cake that was entirely made of chocolate fudge from here, and it was the most delicious ever in life! If you really want an Italian delight you must try their cannoli and their pizzelles. There are pizzelles in every imaginable flavor possible and they never disappoint!

I love serpes!!! The cannolis are insane!!!! I'm currently on hold to place an order. Little disappointed at the amount of time I've been on hold. 15 mins and counting! But, like I said the cannoli cream is the best around!!!! I also am having them do my wedding cake. BTW I'm ordering more cannoli cream!!!! The other day was he first time my fiance had it. N it was gone in the same night. I had to get some colored siger cookies cause they are amazing as well. He was disappointed cause i ate mine to quock to share Haha!!! Sooooo glad they are reopened, u gus have been missued dearly!!!! The store looks amazing. I do wish we could place orders online. Hopefully soon.

We had a huge family gathering for the July 4th weekend. The barbecue was fine, but the big hit of the day was the tomato pie, strawberry shortcake, canolis and various other pastries we purchased from Serpe's Bakery. Everything was outstanding and made a great day even more enjoyable. Those of us who have been going to Serpe's for years were not surprised. We are used to the delicious food and family atmosphere at the bakery. But our friends from Philly, who live close to some pretty darn good Italian bakeries, raved about Serpe's So to Dominic and everyone over there at the Elsmere shop, keep up the great work!!! .

Serpe's have been in business since 1960 and have been very generous to the entire community. If there was any merit to the recent News Journal article they would have been closed down. They were not. Also all of the issues in the article were addressed and fixed weeks ago. The News Journal did not mention that did they??
