I have loved Levain for years. Their cookies are exceptional in every aspect. The flavors are great and they use semi sweet chocolate chips so that the cookie is not too sweet as a whole. They bake them to perfection - and consistently. It is hard to bake such a large cookie so well such that the inside is soft and even a little gooey with the outside crisp and firm. While this isn’t easy to do, levain does it incredibly well. My favorite flavor is the chocolate chip walnut, next the double chocolate peanut butter, and the oatmeal raisin. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of them. The Georgetown location always runs smoothly and rarely is there too long of a line.

The cookies and baked goods were very good. The coffees with the cookies are just perfect. The cookies don't give you a mad sugar rush but are sweet enough. The cookies almost taste like they're made with honey rather than sugar. I really enjoyed chocolate walnut and raisin oatmeal cookies.

Shut up and take my money! This cookie is worth every dollar!!! We were so full so we bought four cookies to-go: two chip chocolate chip, chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate, and dark chocolate peanut butter. We did not get to touch the cookies until the following day and they are still as good as fresh! Of course, you can never be wrong with double chocolate chip and is still my all-time favorite. Service is very efficient. Contactless payment is preferred. There’s seating inside but very minimal.

Decent cookies, we had them shipped and followed their heating up instructions. They tasted fresh and goey but just wasn't a huge fan of most of the flavors. The winners were the double chocolate chip and double chocolate and peanut butter chip (perhaps because that dough, for whatever reason, was the most goey).

Delicious and huge cookies. The original chocolate cookie with walnut is top notch. The cookies are big and cooked to perfection! There was a line out the door when we visited, but the staff was nice and effective, working fast. I will be back

Baked goods were good but I’m not sure what all the hype is about. It’s just slightly under baked cookies. Not worth $5 for a cookie. The two chip chocolate chip was a bit too chocolatey, even for my bf who loves chocolate chip cookies! The one with the walnut was much more edible. The blueberry muffin was good but you could smell/taste the egg. FYI, the store was only allowing about 2-4 groups in at a time so there might be a wait depending on what time you show up!

The standard chocolate chip walnut cookie was fantastic. Crispy on the outside, soft gooey and moist on the inside, even the walnuts were perfectly roasted and cut into tiny little pieces so I really looked forward to them in the cookie! And it’s a decent size.

Amazing cookies!! They don’t look HUGE but they are a lot and I can’t ever finish one. Great little alley to enjoy them in nextdoor. The dark choc chip is like a brownie. Love the choc chip/walnut. Lots of people are drinking coffee but I haven’t tried. So happy to see that I don’t have to go to NYC to get one!

First time trying Levain, I got all the kinds of cookies, total of 6! Love every single one of them. So chunky and gooey! Not your regular cookies, they’re cookies on steroids! They have other baked good I would love to try next time. But their cookies are to die for!

Best store brought cookies I've ever had. Every big and very chocolatey. Tasted all the flavors and the chocolate peanutbutter might be my favorite. The classic chocolate walnut is very good as well. For a different flavor the oatmeal raisin was very good as well if you like raisins. Definitely would recommend

Disappointing experience. Cookies were great as usual. But the cookies were so warm that when stacked on top of each other in a bag, they were all crushed and looked smushed within minutes of leaving the store. Flavor was great, presentation was horrible. For a place that is primarily known for cookies, they should be better at packaging them. Spent $30 to get 2 regular cookies and 4 crushed cookies. I’ve gone to Levain for years in NYC and this visit is making me rethink if the price is worth it. Photo of cooled double chocolate compared to a warm flattened chocolate chip......within 2 days of writing this Levain reached out and a customer service rep called me to chat and hear more about my experience. Really impressed they took the time to do that.

It was a great cookie! The new shop in Georgetown is clean and spacious. The staff were respectful of COVID regulations and very friendly. We ordered one of each kind of cookie (including the gluten free!) Now for the cookies: substantial and incredibly thick. They were crispy and golden on the outside and moist and gooey on the inside! Indulgent and definitely a treat. It was a great cookie... just like many other great cookies.

Now I can get my favorite cookies anytime, 20 minutes walk from my work! No more deliveries from NYC :) Their cookies are hands down the best cookies in the world; huge/thick and dense yet perfectly baked, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside!! My favorite is Oatmeal Raisin but other ones are very good as well. Even if you are not a cookie lover, LeVain is a MUST! If you visit during weekends, you are most likely to stand in a LONG line, so visit during weekdays if possible.

I live in NYC and never went into Levain because of the crazy line so when I saw there was no line in levain Georgetown I decided it time to check what’s the hype is about. I got the chocolate chip walnut cookie with Gluten free ingredients and it was AMAZING. Love it , loved it loved it! Now they need to get more gluten free options cause I want more. Definitely worth the wait and line if there’s one

I mean what more can you ask for? These cookies are amazing. I use to go to the New York City location but this location is just like the one in NYC. Beautiful display of the cookies and the staff is very friendly and professional. The cookies are legit. You can’t go wrong with any of them. What I also love is that this bakery hours open early and close late.

I would have given 5 stars to this location if they had a nicer interior. I would really appreciate plants. Big and small plants or trees, nice (maybe) woven furniture, and a cute bathroom. When I go to a place I like to have a truly beautiful experience. I think this bakery has a great potential though. The Cookie was really tasty. No baking soda aftertaste. Nothing. Soft, tasty, warm, quite filling, cookie. Is it the best in the world? I don't know. But I do think that compared to other American cookies, this is the one to go for. Honestly, my favorite cookies are the ones that my bf makes with oats, chocolate 🍫, and nuts. Those are truly delicious 😋 In terms of other pastry, I wasn't really impressed by the looks to buy any.

If you are a lover of fresh-out-of-the-oven cookies, this is the spot for you. Staff are also extremely friendly and helpful. When my order wasn’t quite what I wanted, they were more than generous with their assistance. It is expensive for a single cookie, but they are massive and it’s a nice occasional treat for yourself or a friend. Don’t bother with their grocery store frozen cookie line; this is where you need to be.

This is the simplest bakery, it only sells a few things: mostly cookies, some brioche. It's a New York chain, I think. The brioche is good but not that special. The cookies are spectacular. They're HUGE and delicious. They're much bigger than the frozen ones in grocery stores, and much fresher. They have five varieties. You should get some right now!

One of my favorite NYC bakeries makes it to Washington DC! You really can’t go wrong at Levain, but my favorite is the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip cookie. The baguette with butter and jam is also great.

I finally made it. I got the double chocolate chip and the chocolate chip with walnuts and lemon cake. Tried the lemon cake delicious and took the cookies home. My dad loved the cookie. I was so surprised at the size and the amount of chips. My friend got the chocolate peanut butter cookie. He loved it. There was pretty much no line when we went which of course I loved that. Plan on coming back to visit DC and will be coming back to levain. Just so good!!!!

These cookies are delicious - they are like sweet Martha’s from the Minnesota state fair - we got the sampler pack (1of each ) I think the worst one and by worst I mean I ate the entire thing in 12 minutes instead of 6 was the oatmeal raisin. Chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Regarding the wait, we went on thanksgiving weekend and were in and out in 15 minutes- no line around the block. Assume on a nice day a huge line.

These are my favorite chocolate chip cookies. They are thick and moist inside, they’re almost like cake. The cookies are a decently sized cookie. The Cafe con Leche limited run are as delicious as the chocolate chip.

A+ tasting cookie! I'm a chocolate lover and when ever I come to Levain's I purchase not one, but two Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookies. The taste is rich chocolaty and fresh. I asked to have mine heated a bit which made the cookie that much better. Customer service is quick and attentive. The cookie is pricey but well worth it.

If prefer cookies over cupcakes, this is your dessert shop! I'm not big on cupcakes, but Georgetown seems to have a bunch of cupcake spots. So this place has the monopoly on cookies. And this is the only place you'll need because their cookies are scrumptious! Ooey, gooey melty chocolate chips in a warm, chunky cookie. The outside is jusy right crisp, but the insides are soft. It's cookie perfection. I ordered the chocolate chip walnut. Proprtions of nuts to chips is spot on. I only ate half of my cookie because it is a rather sizeable cookie...and I needed milk! They should sell milk :). I ate the other half the next morning. Heated it up for 15 seconds, and it largely maintained its texture (crisp outside & soft inside). I'll be back to try other flavors. For example, they have a new fall chocolate chunk. It's basically a ginger bread cookie with chocolate chips inside.

This is one of our new favorites in Georgetown. For a long time it was the cupcakes place but now my kids and us love this fresh cookie place. The chocolate chip and dark chocolate is delicious. A stop you should definitely make when in Gtown. Pick up the cookies, walk down Wisconsin Ave and enjoy by the water!

I was excited to finally try the cookies and sour cream coffee cake slice so I ordered via Door Dash for our Super Bowl Sunday dessert. Ordering process through DD was excellent! Cookies were good but the disappointment came with the coffee cake slide. I received the end piece and as you can see, I could only eat the middle! The back was very hard and undesirable to eat. I did like the subtle sweetness; it tasted pretty good, but will be sure to specify a slice from the middle of the loaf.

Lydia and her team really put a face back on the bakery and were deeply empathetic to the situation. We have come to an agreeable solution on all sides and, as I have maintained the product is high quality, I’ve changed my review to reflect the steps taken by Levain to redress the situation. ********************************************* It’s a mixed review because I had one excellent experience and one very poor experience. The excellent experience was through the bakery website – expensive, of course, but a lovely gift and really appreciated by the recipient. The process was straightforward and precise, and the product was as expected. That made the purchase worthwhile. The very poor experience was through UberEats. Levain accepted the address but when I noticed it hadn’t taken the apartment, I went to add it – the address was then “too far” for delivery. The only recourse, apparently, was cancellation or delivery to the original address, which was now showing incorrectly. I called to ask the bakery on the phone, and the man who answered essentially told me it wasn’t his problem. He wasn’t wrong – I just felt very frustrated that I was charged a $15 cancellation fee for an error on the end of the app (I’m assuming. I had put the address in correctly, so I really feel like it was a trap). From the bakery’s end, I had placed the order approximately 5 minutes prior, and the man on the phone just kept repeating that the cancellation fee was because it was the “beautiful holiday box”. The entire experience was odd and, frankly, off-putting. It’s a pity because I would have given the first experience 5 stars, but the UberEats and Levain customer service experience was a 1. * I considered downgrading my review from a 3 after rereading the T&Cs. The $15 cancellation fee is Levain’s policy, as that is the price of the holiday box. I understand they had “started the order”, but this is a standing winter product. I truly wouldn’t have considered writing a review had the customer service been more polite and functioning. My profile demonstrates my distaste for writing negative reviews. However, total product cost is a hefty price for anyone who might consider using these two businesses in tandem. I would only advise potential customers to remember that these are not friendly local companies. Levain makes delicious cookies, which is why it is fair to keep both experiences in consideration. Still, fundamentally it is a business – and you as the customer take on the burden of any error, be it of your making or not.

OMG is all I can say. I won't eat any other cookie, ever again in my whole life, but Levain. Quick story. I had Levain in NYC first. 72nd and Amsterdam avenue. I lived in Brooklyn. I would connect to the 1/9 train in Times a square from the C train in Brooklyn, ALLLLLL THE WAY to Amsterdam Avenue just for 2 cookies. My friends thought I was crazy. They're right. Crazy for Levain cookies. Oatmeal raisin. I'm allergic to chocolate, but sometimes I'll get the chocolate chunk walnut and pray that I don't get sick. 😂. Somebody should advise Paula Dean to stop making her little bitty cookies. She don't know nothing about Levain!! 🍪 I wonder if Patti could be competition for Levain? 🤔

Really nice transplant bakery from NYC. Tried the double chocolate chip cookie, brioche, oatmeal raisin, and baguette. Cookies were great, brioche was really good, but the baguette was tiny. It's roughly half the diameter of a typical loaf.

I have known about Levain for awhile now but I have never had the pleasure of visiting. So when I heard Georgetown was getting a location I knew I had to go! It did not disappoint. There's going to be a line and a wait; expect at least 30 minutes united you're there before open and get in line quickly. Cookies are $4 + tax each.

One of those places you build up in your mind and it exceeds your expectations. Cookies were massive, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, packed with mix-ins, and baked fresh for each customer. Even after my late pick-up (30 minutes after they were ready), the chocolate cookies did the classic pull apart magic you see about online. My surprising favorite -- oatmeal raisin! Clean shop, friendly staff, cool location. Hope more open around DC!

I personally think levain is overhyped. I like thinner, warm, cookies right out the oven. But this monster cookies are to some peoples liking. My roommate loves them and brings everyone. I have gone at least 3 times now because of him. The best cookie I have tried is shockingly the oatmeal raisin. I have also tried the chocolate chip walnut, the double chip chocolate chip. Both are obviously decent like how can you ruin a cookie. The place usually has a line if you go during a busy time. Say Sunday afternoon. The staff is always nice.

Overall a nice bakery with some good baked goods, great place for chocolate lovers. The brioche was a bit stale and bland, but the cookies were fantastic and I've enjoyed the coffee cakes that I tried. It is evident that they use very high quality ingredients; the excellent chocolate really elevates their products. Coffee was mediocre (too sour, perhaps had been sitting for a while) but the service was friendly and quick; unfortunately, not much in the way of seating or indoor space. Be sure to come on off-hours or during the weekdays, because it seems to always be packed on the weekends!

Birthday cake or birthday cookies? This years birthday cake was turned into birthday cookies for my wife. A friend of ours bright Levain cookies to a Halloween party and they were sooo good. Are they pricy? Yes, but for special occasions, they are perfect. We warm them up for 10-15 seconds before eating again. They also store in the freezer in a vacune sealed bag really well. They won’t last long. We got the double chocolate and the chocolate chip cookies.

I've been wanting to try Levain bakery ever since I heard they were coming to DC. A family member had also brought them to a dinner and my parents fell in love with the cookies. I finally got the chance when I was in Georgetown this past weekend. We went around 3:30/4:00pm and there wasn't really a line--I heard it can get pretty long. The cashier recommended the double chocolate chip cookie and the chocolate walnut cookie as their most popular cookies. I got one of each ($5/cookie) to bring home. It was still good the next day. Next time, I'm going to try one in the bakery. I also hear the brioche is pretty good, so looking forward to trying that next time as well.

Their oatmeal raisin scone was perfect! I’m a slow eater and it took me 3 days to finish one scone but it was still soft (not dry) on the third day. It’s not fancy or surprising taste, but it ticks every box for a good scone. It’s also not too sweet, which makes it good for breakfast.

I was fully prepared for this place not to live up to the hype or lines all the way down the block. I like to rank locally grown businesses over ones from other cities, but I will admit that the cookies from Levain are delicious. They're insanely large and decadent. I ordered the café con leche and the chocolate chip walnut. Both were amazing. I only needed a bite of each to be satisfied so they actually lasted for days. At $4 each, they seem expensive but they really are worth a try! Note: I went in the middle of the day on a weekday and there was no line. I also had a coupon for a free cookie.

They are really good cookies, and the line is deceiving and moves quickly. I would compare the cookie to more of a “brookie” because it is so think and fudge-y, but that could be because of the double chocolate flavor that I had. Either way great bakery in the Georgetown area!

Food alone only ever deserves four stars, what always puts an eatery over 4 stars is the service. The food was impecable; I had the cookies and a sticky bun. The service was also wonderful, which is odd to report as I never expect a store that only does counter service and is staffed by teenagers/college-students to offer good service. The young woman who helped my party yesterday was all smiles (as were the rest of the staff) and was very helpful with any questions I had. She also offered to heat the sticky bun, which meant more work for her, which resulted in a better food experience for me. This was all done about thirty minutes before closing, so I can only wonder how the service and food would be improved upon earlier in the day. I recommend this bakery if you are looking for something sweet like a cookie or sticky bun!

Absolute cookie paradise. These babies are jumbo-sized, buttery crunchy on the outside and ooey gooey in the center. I’ve tried them all and I don’t think I can critique any of them. If you’re an out-of-town visitor, make sure you just get a box with AT LEAST one of each cookie. Although, they do freeze and reheat really well, so just get two of each. They make a great gift for any cookie-lovers in your life too.

We got the cinnamon butter brioche, lemon cake, and the two chip chocolate chip cookie (which was still warm). Everything was superb, and we're already looking forward to our next stop. The staff were very pleasant, and extremely efficient, moving us through the line very quickly. By the time we were leaving, the line had begun to go out the door, where a staff member was metering how many patrons were allowed in at a shot, which is a consideration I appreciate.

Skip the cookies! Go for the bread! We bought 1 cookie of each kind. They are good, dense, and tasty, but not amazing. I prefer my cookies to be on the thinner side with crispy edges and a chewy center. These are quite heavy and sit like a ball in the palm of your hands. I would, however, highly recommend the bread! We had the raisin & nut bread, and oh I wish we bought all types of bread they had! So good! Perfect crust! Amazing balanced taste.

It's very clean and lovely. The employees are incredibly nice and helpful! Based on the store and employees alone, I would patronize this establishment all the time. That being said, the pastries are just okay. Maybe it's because they were really talked up before I went and my expectations were high, but I was underwhelmed. To clarify, their food is delicious and I enjoyed it all, but it wasn't vastly better than anyone else so I don't quite understand the buzz. You're paying $4 for a large cookie that, while delicious, isn't worth the price tag or the heavy praise.

Sometimes, a bakery comes along that creates something that provides a product worth traveling across the city for. This bakery is absolutely that kind of place. The cookies are almost muffins, almost scones, definitely incredible. We ended up trying just about every cookie in the place, and decided that anything with chocolate is killing it, and if you double the chocolate, it's even better. You can't go wrong - definitely try the limited edition cookies. Also, these make great gifts, because they're special and you can't get them just anywhere. Highly recommend a visit at least once, if not many times. A place to bring visiting friends and family too!

We nearly passed this place thinking it was “just another bakery” and are so glad we were wrong! The smell of freshly baked cookies and pastries were wafting outside when we were exploring. We went inside and only four other people were there. I asked the cashier what’s the most popular item and she suggested the walnut chocolate chip cookie. We purchased one and sat outside in the Adirondack chairs (only four available for seating). Warm cookies, crispy on the outside and super soft and gooey on the inside. We were very pleased! Two minutes after we exited, the place was FILLED to the brim with customers and a line formed outside!!! We even ordered more cookies through DoorDash back to our hotel the next night. Recommend to everyone. NOTE- this is not a tree nut free facility!

I got 8 cookies the morning. Each are priced at $4 a piece. They are massive cookies, so it's more like you get 2 cookies when buying one. I got the chocolate chip walnut and the cafe con leche for myself. The chocolate chip walnut was stellar but I only was able to eat half. I don't know how the cafe con leche one is because they gave me the wrong cookie. I think I got chocolate peanut butter instead. It was still very good, but just a bit disappointed I ended up with the wrong one. My wife got the GF Chocolate Chip Walnut and a double chocolate. She said the GF one was the best GF cookie she has ever had. I have 4 more to give to my family when I see them tonight and I am sure they will find them just as delicious as I did. The line was manageable but I bet it gets pretty bad at night or on the weekends. Additionally the staff members were really nice and they did a good job of keeping people six feet away from one another.

Always wanted to try Levain's cookies since learning about them from our NYC friends, so we were very excited when they opened up a location at DC in Georgetown. We went on a weekday afternoon during the pandemic and there was hardly a line to wait in. Upon entering everyone was practicing social distancing and wearing masks, which made us feel extra safe. We were in and out in about 10 minutes. Staff was friendly, fast, and helpful. I have to say, the cookies live up to the hype! The cookies are thick, kinda the size of a scone or burger buns. They were delectably crisp on the outside, and super soft and chewy at the same time. Our favorite was the two chip chocolate chip, but the others were awesome as well. The oatmeal raisin was definitely a close second. Their cold brew coffee was a nice complement. Definitely worth the trek to Georgetown! Next time we're going to try their other baked offerings!

My brother in law brought these to a recent socially distant gathering and WOW these are delicious! I would heat then up a bit following their directions. Chocolate chip was by far the best. The others were good but I'm not the best person to judge cookies other than chocolate chip. They are huge and gooey in the middle. Perfect in my opinion. I've had the original Levain Bakery cookies in NYC, and on behalf of work, I received a Cookie Assortment Gift Box which contained 4 cookies: Chocolate Chip Walnut, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, and Oatmeal Raisin. Of course, they're not the same as if I got them fresh from the bakery, but throw them into the oven to reheat and it's about the same! Still huge and ooey gooey inside! A tad too sweet for me too, as usual. Really pricey at $27 subtotal, $37 including shipping. Almost $10 per cookie seems a bit extreme; even at $27 (divided by 4 = $6.75) is way pricier than in-store which is $4.50 including tax.

Do not let the line intimidate you! I got in line at noon on a Saturday, the line stretched about 2 blocks long. From getting in line to getting my cookies was about 30 minutes, AMAZING!! The super sweet blonde associate at the front door let me know they will never sell out of cookies, they’re constantly being made all day but they may make you wait 10 min for a fresh batch to come out of the oven. I got one of every cookie and my top 3 are the Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Honestly, they’re $4 just get one of everything and try them yourselves!! Definitely order multiple and put them in your freezer for later. If frozen, put them in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 min and they taste fresh baked again.

This could be an unpopular opinion, but the cookies were nothing special. If I were to go back again I would stick with cupcakes when in Georgetown. Staff was friendly but service was slow, they are definitely still figuring out their "flow" within the establishment. Forget the cookies, get some lemon loaf instead. Ok but first, the cookies are great. They're huge, so make sure you plan for that. The bread (baguette) is pretty awful - quite inedible to be honest. Their lemon loaf though... I thought it was delicious. It is my favorite thing at Levain and I keep going back for more lemon loaf. If you love tons of frosting on the loaf, this one is not for you. It has a thin layer of frosting, and that is just perfect for what I like.

Despite the massive crowds and visitors visiting for graduations, this staff was absolutely on point and made the visit a real pleasure. Haven't been to a Levain location in ages and was happy to see an array of items aside from their famous cookies. While the cookies are everything to write home about, as usual, I really enjoyed trying some of their other baked goods, such as the chocolate chip brioche which was soft and not overly sweet but screamed "gourmet." Prices are similar to many other cafes and bakeries and the quality makes it a bargain in my opinion. Sidenote: parking can be a hassle in the area.

I'm so glad I've finally tried these cookies! They are so amazing - perfectly crisp on the outside, chewy and melty on the inside, and not too sweet. I got one each of the chocolate chip walnut, two chip chocolate chip, and the dark chocolate peanut butter chip. I expected chocolate chip walnut to be my favorite but the dark chocolate peanut butter blew me away. I like that it was peanut butter chips to give the flavor without the gooeyness.

Cookies are FULLY worth the hype. $4+tax is a normal price for a super dense specialty cookie in DC. I got the classic and the choc peanut butter to split each. I can't decide which one was better! They were so different. I also got a loaf of whole grain bread OMG - so delicious and hearty as well. I also left my card there and they tracked down my number to call me and let me know! 10/10. -and extremely glad I don't live too close because I would be eating my weight in cookies if so.

I had Levain in NYC many years ago, and can't recall if these cookies taste exactly the same as the NYC institution. We went on a lovely day Sunday afternoon and only waited about 10 minutes in line. I'm sure the initial hype has now died down a bit too. The line moves quickly and the staff is extremely pleasant. We tried the chocolate walnut, chocolate peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin cookies - $4 a piece. The 2 former tasted great, but the oatmeal raisin was not liked at all by anyone. It was almost like the cookie wasn't baked all the way through, but you can see from the photo, the cookie was still raw. It was literally a pile of mush, and even the raisins seemed undercooked. I can't recall ever eating a cookie like this at the NYC establishment, so this was disappointing to see the inconsistency in quality.

For those who popped their Levain cherry in the original bakeries in New York, the recipe here doesn't quite seem the same. The cookies are still delicious, but they aren't quite as big (suspected, then visually confirmed by pictures taken at original Levain location, though far from verified via weight). Also, despite arriving shortly after their opening in the morning, the cookie I ate didn't seem freshly baked; tasted and felt more like a late-afternoon cookie. When I visit NY, I go out of my way to stop by Levain's; I wouldn't go out of my way for the cookies here, but I would (and will) definitely stop by when I'm in the neighborhood. Considered 3 star, but awarded bonus star for a phenomenally friendly and efficient staff.

The best chocolate chip cookie in the city is at Levain Bakery. As a proud D.C. resident, I am about local first and D.C. has great chocolate chip cookies- Union Kitchen Grocery, Uncle Chip's, Open Crumb to name a few. However, my absolute favorite chocolate chip cookie is from Levain Bakery in NYC. After nearly 25 years exclusively in NYC, Levain Bakery opened their first shop outside of NYC in Georgetown. The space is large with an area to host people eating their baked goods and/or a long safe distance line. It's by an alley so the line can weave down it. The menu is overshadowed by their famous cookies- chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate cookie, chocolate peanut butter chip and raisin. However, they do have other items like a great chocolate chip brioche. Warning: The cookies are worth every penny and are HUGE. They count as a full meal so consider splitting one with a friend. Pro-tip: Ask for whole milk to go with your cookie.

Would highly recommend getting the two chip cookie! That should be their signature cookie in my opinion. The line is super long, so I would avoid going until it slows down (usually after 6pm), but I think you should def try while you’re in the Georgetown area!

Had a nice balance of savory and sweet. My hubby devoured it! Whole Wheat Grain Loaf (5/5) - While the loaf is thick and dense, it was good for sandwiches and stayed fresh for a few days. The heavenly cookies were worth a 30 min wait on Sat night right before closing - 20 min standing in line outside and also 10 min inside the store. Some people waited 90 minutes, which is too much for me. I wish the cookies were smaller and easier to conquer solo. They are so rich and definitely gave me a sugar rush. These cookies are perfect for sharing! My biggest gripe is the whole milk doesn't come in a carton! It's just served in a cup, which makes it hard to transport, luckily there was a cup holder. Fun to try, not sure if I'd be back though! With so many tasty treats in Georgetown, I prefer local spots like Thomas Sweet ice cream and Baked and Wired.

Wow, some people reviewing this place think they're real renegades for being grumpy about tourists. Get a grip, you're in Georgetown on M street, it's literally the most touristy part of DC besides the Mall with or without Levain Bakery. That being said, Levain cookies are amazing. This location is just as great as the one in NYC. I went at 7:30 pm on Sunday and only had to wait 10 minutes. Glass of milk with one of these round bois is crucial. My personal favorite is chocolate with peanut butter chips, close second is two chip chocolate chip. Sour cream coffee cake was also fantastic, moist and buttery.

Even though there's been a lot of hype and media attention behind the brand, I'm wondering if it might be a bit exaggerated. My very first experience was a "walnut" raisin bread that sadly missed out on the walnuts. At least, the loaf did get thumbs up for its flavor and texture. In the interest of fairness, I will be returning to try other breads on the menu, but would also love to see a few vegan options offered in the cookie/pastry department.

Their cookies are just amaaazing. But be aware they have communication issues with their order-ahead service Caviar. The caviar app said my order was ready to pick up at 10:11. But after getting there they said part of the order was still in the oven and not ready until 10:50. That’s a pretty significant wait and there were no options to adjust or cancel the order since they reported to Caviar that the order was already processed and ready. Get your act together, Levain.

Luckily got to try this place right before I had to head home to the west coast! I discovered their cookies through Instagram and it always looked bombb. The cookies always looked thick, soft, and massive. I was visiting my cousin in Virginia and luckily a day or two before it was time to go home, the first location out of New York opened in DC, which was close enough to drive to. I expected the line to be a long wait, regardless of COVID, but it surprisingly moved pretty quickly. I didn't really see much outside of cookies when I saw them on IG, so when I tried their baguette and Cinnamon Brioche, I was surprised at how good they were. The baguette had an addicting taste that I had to tell myself not to eat too much. The cinnamon brioche was something I would get again as it was soft and had that nice touch of cinnamon going through the middle, although I thought the cinnamon layer could have been thicker. The cookies were what I was looking forward to the most. They looked a bit smaller in thickness from what I have seen, but I guess it can't be uniform all the time. The Cafe Con Leche was a limited edition, so I had to try that. I thought it was alright, but nothing that wowed me. Now the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookie was the star. It was so soft, rich and perfect. It had a nice balance of the rich dark chocolate flavor and peanut butter chips. My cousins all thought it was too rich that it would be hard to eat it all in one go, but I honestly could have eaten at least half of it in one go. With a glass of milk, I probably could have eaten the whole thing. I'm so glad I was able to try it before I left. The Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie lived up to the hype for me. Just need them to expand to the west coast!

I originally heard about Levian Bakery about 6 months ago when a youtuber by the name Joshua Weissman attempted to bake a cookie that could hold up your cookies. Fast forward 6 months I moved to the area had forgotten all about the video. One day I saw my neighbor take out his trash and I spied a Levian Bakery take away bag. I instantly knew I had to go wherever it was. So I hoped in my truck scooped up my cousin and we set off on our mission. The parking situation is of course quiet congested in the area but we managed to get a spot. Next we set off and found the bakery which to our dismay had probably a line of about 50 people but we weren't backing down. Luckily your bakery is speedy and we were in the doors in a flash. Your staff was fantastic, the coffee exquisite, and the fresh smell of baked goods permitted the room. FINALLY I had a bag full of cookies and a fresh bagette, the second we stepped out of the shop we tore into it, every bite of the delicious chocolate chip cookie was pure bliss. These top of the line baked goods lived up to my every fantasy. They were perfectly baked, buttery, chocolatey, literally HEAVY, just one is not enough. When you go you MUST get an armful. I promise you, if you go and get something from Levian Bakery you will NOT be disappointed!

BRING BACK DELIVERY W/IN 3mi RADIUS!! Levain’s cookies are like no other and if I was rating the cookies alone, I’d give them 5 stars. But in the past couple months they’ve restricted their delivery range on all platforms to strictly DC. I wish they’d go back to a radius range (delivering to addresses within 3 or 5 miles, for example) rather only allowing delivery in the District. Parts of VA are far closer to the bakery than most of addresses in DC. Rosslyn, for instance, is a 7 minute drive from the bakery but given Georgetown’s notoriously lacking public transit and parking, pickup isn’t feasible for many folks. Levain is boxing out a lot of would-be customers with their short-sighted delivery policy. Keeping fingers crossed that they’ll reconsider and re-open delivery to nearby addresses just across the river.
