We had the Captain Cookie truck come serve dessert at our DC wedding and it was so much better than we could have expected. Our guests have been raving nonstop about the delicious ice cream sandwiches and it was the perfect party surprise. Highly recommend!

This place is actually located in the Eastern Market. They have their own “entrance” just west of the Eastern Market entrance, but it’s a much more direct route to go in through the Eastern Market entrance. As for the cookies, I got the ice cream sandwich on chocolate chip cookies. The cookies were too crunchy for an ice cream sandwich resulting in the ice cream coming out the sides as I was eating it. I’m hindsight, I probably should have just tried a couple different kinds of cookies. If you’re looking for soft, melty cookies like I was, I would go somewhere else.

I had been listening to the rants and raves from my friends for weeks about how great the ice cream is at this store, so I figured why not try it for myself! Their selection of ice cream is pretty good, but I wanted to try out the flavor that I had heard so much about. I ordered two scoops of the cookie dough ice cream in a cup. I almost decided on the strawberry flavor, but at the last minute, I went for the cookie dough. There wasn't a peep anywhere in sight, neither the e entire GW neighborhood, so ordering was easy and fast. The hipster behind the counter served me up with two generous scoops of the cookie dough. Son enough I was out the door, and walking toward the metro enjoying my Friday treat!

I stopped by for a late night snack but ended up picking up cookies for my family. I got an open faced ice cream sandwich(which I think is the way to go since the cookies aren’t really soft enough to bite through without swishing all the I cream out), ginger, oatmeal, double chocolate, chocolate chip, heath bar bits, and snickerdoodle. The favorites were double chocolate, ginger, and Heath. I wished the snickerdoodle had more cinnamon.

As soon as I arrived I was greated with the best staff. These guys had a smile and was happy to help. The cookies were amazing. It's a silly thing but my only "complaint" was too much ice cream with the cookie sandwich. I will happily return here

I have been a fan of captain cookie for a few years now. It's a bit hit or miss with the freshness of the cookies, but despite that, it is always a good deal for the pure amount of food you get. The ice cream is always creamy and delicious too.

My Daughter Loved it!!! If you think it looks like it was designed in 20 minutes or less, that's because it was and it turned out Amazing!!! $25 for a Cookie Cake that I didn't know existed. My Baby girl loves snickerdoodles, and instead of a dozen for her birthday we got a whole cake. Thanks Captain Cookie staff members!!!

The ice cream is good, but the cookies have a pretty off taste and normally upset my stomach. I’ve eaten there a few times, and the cookies just aren’t as good as other places. It is also pricy, but their milkshakes are pretty good

The cookies were just meh. I appreciated the vegan offerings. But the stand out is the edible cookie dough! It wasn't even listed on their menu but I saw it in the refrigerator and ordered some. Delicious and much more affordable than what is offered in the grocery stores.

I have booked the Captain Cookie truck for our block party for several years now and they are a hit each and every time. Cookies and ice cream are delicious, the price is fair and they are very easy to work with. It isn't a party without them.

- Edited on November 7, 2021. Came back to DC after a few years and went to visit my favorite cookie shop! However, it absolutely has gone down in quality. The cookies are cold, hard, and stale. I bought three, usually eating them all in one setting, only to leave 2 left to desire. Please restore the quality this great cookie company once had 🙏. Great Chocolate Chip Cookie! The best cookie I’ve ever bought because it tasted as if I made them myself. It was warm, soft on the center but nice and firm on the outer edges. Delicious cookie overall, the cookie you just have to try yourself. For $5 bucks you get two cookies 🍪 ,which are good sizes, and a small bottle of Grass-Fed Cow Milk 🥛 and they have all types of variety such as Whole, 2%, Soy, Etc. They even have vegan cookies so anyone can essentially try them!

Wonderful comforting dessert We saw this place on the map and had to check out a restaurant with such a fun name. After dinner elsewhere we wandered back to check out the options for dessert. I selected two cookies and milk and found them delicious and the cookies obviously fresh-made. My wife chose an ice cream sandwich and really enjoyed both the ice cream and the cookies. The staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was delightful. Highly recommended if you’re in the area for a snack or dessert—plus they’re open late.

The cookies are definitely worth the wait!! You get them warm and they are soft! They have a little area upstairs where you can sit if you don't want to take your cookies to go. We checked out this place while we were in DC for the weekend one night after dinner. We were in line for about 15 minutes (on a Saturday night). Definitely check it out if you have a sweet tooth and your in the DC area!

4 Stars because the snickerdoodle wasn’t soft like the peanut butter cookie. The staff is very friendly. There are about six or eight selections of ice cream to pair with six or so types of cookies. You can mix and match for a very reasonable price. An ice cream sandwich with two cookies and a good portion of ice cream is just five dollars. That is a great quick treat.

We reached out earlier this week with a larger, somewhat complicated order for delivery (to multiple locations) that we needed to happen within about a day and half of our initial contact. They quickly responded to our initial inquiry and from then on Alexandra in Events was wonderful to work with and they were able to pull this off for us! Couldn't be happier with their ability to make this work.

I’ve never been to the actual restaurant. But we booked the truck for our opening night of a Target store and it was a big hit! We had the pleasure of having the actual owner there who was also great. Cookies and ice cream. What more could you want? I had the peanut butter and chocolate and it did not disappoint.

They serve their cookies WARM! Big deal. We tried 5 cookies. Choc chip, macadamia nut + lemon, ginger, peanut butter, and snickerdoodle. We didn't eat them all at once, and let me tell you, they're much better warm and fresh. Reasonably priced.

We stumbled onto this place looking for a quick dessert. Instead, we found heaven. They have a decent selection of cookie types, but they do those cookies WELL. They also serve ice cream, truffles, and cookie dough, as well as turn cookies and ice cream into ice cream sandwiches or milkshakes. I bought 6 cookies with the intention of bringing some back home for tomorrow. But I may just eat them all now.

I got an ice cream cookie. Funfetti bottom cookie, strawberry ice cream, and a top chocolate chip cookie. The strawberry cookie wasn't artificially colored pink which is great. It taste so natural with the bits of strawberry and not so sweet. The funfetti was so fun to eat and look at. Chocolate cup was not chewy, which what I prefer, but still great. My sister got double chocolate. She's not a big sweets person and she said it was perfect. Not sweet but enough to satisfy her sweets craving. It was a great night cap. :)

Good ice cream. Loved the cookies. The staff was also very nice and gave me suggestions as well as samples to taste. Convenient location in a very cool building. There are tons more shops and places to eat at inside. Give it a try. Ohh I almost forgot to mention this place smells amazing too.

Personally, I love this place but I can understand why some don't. The cookies are good, the ice cream is good, and the ice cream sandwiches are great. They also participate in several food waste/food scarcity programs. They are pretty expensive though. I mostly get their cookies at a discount through a food waste program but if I had to pay full price, I'd understand being disappointed. Note: the cookies are kind of hard so that they don't get too soggy when covered in ice cream, this makes them feel somewhat stale on their own.

You can tell the cookies are freshly baked and the ice cream is good but it’s not so amazing that you need to go out of your way to try this place. Seems like a great late night or college hangout spot. They also offer the edible cookie dough.

The staff was super nice and patient with our group though. We warmed them in the oven when we got home. The cookies were solid, but not knock your socks off out of this world. Granted, we came right as it was closing, so maybe the freshness had worn off a bit and some of the (presumably, top) flavors weren't in stock.

I suspect the lady that ran this establishment the night we visited was the owner. She was awesome! The cookies were by all accounts Fantastic!! The prices were more than fair, the desserts awesome, and the service could not have been better. Was a bit of a walk to get to, but all members of our family were glad we went. We are only in town go the week, but I suspect we will make that walk at least once more.

Great Dessert place, the ice cream is locally sourced and so deliciously creamy. The cookies are great the edges are crispy while the centers are soft. Had the health bar and salted caramel ice cream sandwich it was so good. Staff recommend the combo and boy it was a hit. The portions are quite large perfect for sharing if you want I didn't want to though was to good.

I love this place! The ice cream they use is delicious. The cookie sandwich is a great value— you get a pretty big dessert for a good price. I always struggle to finish it, but feel happy when I leave. There’s a cute seating area upstairs. The milkshakes are delicious, too (my favorite is cookies and cream). My only complaint is that sometimes the cookies are a little hard. I probably wouldn’t order them alone, but you can’t tell once you put some ice cream on them and let it melt. Super yummy! They’re also open til midnight, so it’s a nice place to stop if you’ve been at the Foggy Bottom bars and get a sweets craving.

Love love love Captain Cookie! Been going there for year. $5 gets you a giant ice cream sandwich with whatever 2 cookies you want to make the sandwich. Totally worth it. They rotate a variety of interesting ice cream flavors and cookies. The atmosphere of the place is great too, they have a (small but) very cool seating section above the shop. They’re always blasting great music too, I’ve sat there for hours with friends talking and just enjoying the music & sweets. Only complaint is that sometimes the cookies are inconsistent, some days they’re crunchy, other days they’re soft and gooey. They’re great either way though.

Your experience can definitely depend on when you go and how fresh the cookies are. Below are my reviews for my first and second visit. My second experience: I was convinced by the recipe maker to give these a second try and am glad I did. Definitely adding a scoop of ice cream between the cookies enhances the cookies, and the cookies seemed much fresher this time. For the sandwich, I got one regular chocolate chip and one cookie of the day (chocolate funfetti which is double chocolate with sprinkles) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My first experience: Very disappointing. The cookies were not special at all. Not served hot. Just meh. We tried 6+ different flavors and none were anything special. Chocolate chip was the best of them. Snickerdoodle was not very flavorful and lacked enough cinnamon. Others tried included: Funfetti, Heath bar (barely tasted the Heath toffee), double chocolate, Ginger Molasses (too much ginger). The textures were all fine (not dry, stale etc), the flavor just wasn't there.

We hired Captain Cookie as a dessert option on our wedding day and we are so glad we did! All of our guests loved the ice cream and cookies and thought it was a neat idea. The person manning the truck was incredibly friendly and easy to work with. We were pleasantly surprised by the price and felt it was a great value for the high quality product and service. Additionally, they were incredibly responsive and easy to work with when booking and I almost forgot about them as a vendor because they were so easy to coordinate with, which is exactly what you want when putting together a big event. Thank you, highly recommend booking for a private party, it will be one of the best decisions you make!

Got the famous ice cream sandwich and chose fudge brownie cookie (amazing), vanilla ice cream (average), and chocolate chip cookie (too crunchy almost burnt). Service was good as she gave recommendations and was very friendly. However, touched the phone to answer it twice and didn't change gloves when handling the cookies. Would order the fudge brownie cookies again and take them home to eat.

My favorite cookies here are: chocolate chip, funfetti, and snickerdoodle. I'm not a fan of the ginger molasses (but I'm also not a fan of ginger molasses cookies in general) or the double chocolate. And, I haven't tried any of the others. My coworkers once got me a chocolate chip cookie cake for my birthday, and it was delicious! Definitely recommend! 4 stars because this place can be hit or miss. 75% of the time, you get a perfect, freshly baked, right out of the oven cookie. But then there are times (specifically 3-5pm) that you get a cold why-did-I-pay-for-this? Sometimes, the dough isn't mixed well enough, and there are pockets of flour or salt which can be off-putting. That being said, when you get a good batch of fresh cookies, they make up for all the times you didn't :) The ice cream is also super rich and creamy, so if you're not a fan, stick with the cookies. I've had the ice cream sandwich once, and it's pretty standard-- nothing to write home about. FYI you will need a spoon to eat it.

I became a fan of Captain Cookie and the Milk Man when I lived in Foggy Bottom, and they were one of my favorite stopping points after a long run. The cookies are delicious, the ice cream is fantastic, and the service is exceptional. I'm such a fan that we hired them (even before the caterers) to bring their truck to our wedding, and it was a HUGE hit. The truck and the guy they sent were awesome and it was a huge hit with our guests (I saw so many Ice Cream cookie sandwiches). That they also took our need for "no nuts" seriously (so my nephew could enjoy the cookies too) was great as well.

THIS PLACE ROCKS! Dessert was awesome. My girlfriend and I had entirely different cookies and ice cream pairings and everything recommended to us was spot on. Hope was amazing. She took time out of her cookie dough prep to show us around, tell us about the background of the ice cream and where it comes from, and added personal recommendations of flavor combos that did not disappoint. Cookies are good for the price. I wanted an Ice cream sandwich with vanilla but they were out. Ice cream sandwich is big enough to share. If i had a suggestion it'd be to have a self ordering kiosk or something because I had to shout and repeat my order to them because there was a long line of people in a open building so there was a lot of noise . I think a self ordering kiosk would help a lot.

What can be better than fresh warm cookies? Taking two of those cookies and sandwiching ice cream between them for the perfect ice cream sandwich. The staff was amazing and clearly strive to provide the best service possible. The cookies are some of the best you can get, even without the ice cream. Love this place--some of the best local ice cream in town and fresh baked cookies, open late, good stuff. Tonight rolled up around 1:30 and it was dark and locked up tight. We just ordered a dozen of their vegan chocolate chip cookie. They are fantastic - can't even tell they didn't use animal products. The only negative I have is that I wish they had vegan options for all of their cookies :D Would definitely recommend.

This is a good place to grab a dessert, especially late at night. Don't expect much from the interior or the ice cream. This place is more about the face that you can customize your own ice cream sandwich. Want a different cookie on top? On the bottom? Done. The decor is weird, not the best cookies, nor ice cream, but if you are craving sweets at 11:30pm then this is the place for you. If I could click 3.5 stars, I would. We tried regular chocolate chip and double chocolate chip cookies along with a cookie ice cream sandwich. We arrived around 11am, so the cookies should be super fresh. I was hoping for warm and slightly gooey but that’s just how I like my cookies. Nice people working there, nothing extra, just cookies. I was hoping to be wow’d.

I came when the sugar cookies were coming out of the oven ! Fresh and delicious. However, I also purchased a vegan chocolate chip cookie and it was very hard. When I asked the rep to put it back in the oven for a couple of seconds, she denied my request and said "it would only make the cookie harder". I wish she had offered me a different cookie.

The best place in DC - by far - to get your ice cream sandwich and cookies fix. Each cookie is baked to perfection; every bite tastes heavenly. Service is both incredibly efficient (there's almost never a line) and polite. My favorite cookie are the snicker doodles - each bite is crisp and tasteful.

Don't go to this store if you like cookies and do not have control to not give in to temptation! This is a small little place selling the absolutely best cookies :) I went in for a few cookies and came away with a dozen or so cookies - and most of the cookies were perfect :) The only disappointment was the Nutella - did not quite meet my expectations of the perfect Nutella flavor. I have been back a few times since my initial trip and have been happy with my purchase. This definitely is my go to spot for cookies :)

I purchased two ice cream sandwiches, both were delicious!! You can get two scoops of ice cream, different flavors, for no extra charge!! My only complaint was that the cookie was a little dry so it completely fell apart

Meh. Thought it was average. The peanut butter tasted like it was made with powder peanut but to me (just could’ve been better), the funfetti cookie has the sprinkles on top instead of inside the batter so it’s a sugar cookie with sprinkles and the snickerdoodle was delicious.

A little hard to find. Cookies were great. The cookie ice cream sandwich was yummy. My only complaint was that there was too much ice cream! Two scoops is too much. When I took my first bite, one whole scoop plopped out the other side! Messy but tasty

Captain Cookie is where it is at for yummy and delicious cookies. They have the usual flavors like peanut butter and chocolate chip which are all delicious but they also make really fun and unique flavors. A few of my favorites have been the lemon poppy seed cookie and their Saint Patrick's day special. You can also get ice cream cookie sandwiches and yes they even sell milk.

I've tried a couple of their cookie sandwich combos, but the best cookie would have to be the nutella. Although it tastes more fudge like than nutella, it's delectable. Their coffee ice cream is pretty good, but vanilla is definitely the best out of their basic selections.

The workers in the Penn Ave location were fun. The product is awesome. Senator Harris gave them to my division as a gift for the holidays and they were so good I bought cookies for all my neighbors(the ones I like lol). The workers in the Pennsylvania location are hard workers, hope they're getting paid well. They made my experience great.

Friendly, prompt service. Refreshing that the employees have zero attitude and have patience. Cookies taste great, and are as perfectly baked as to be expected. Ice cream is very good, although short of being premium.

It's the perfect place to get a casual dessert. Delicious homemade cookies (with DC's named best chocolate chip cookie) and ice cream. If you go, I recommend the cookie sandwich with two cookies and ice cream in the middle. But use a spoon because eating with hands can get really messy!

I stayed at the Avenue Suites DC and these came as a part of the summer family package. 4 sizeable chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwiches were in our freezer when we arrived. I am ruined! I will not get a cookie ice cream sandwich from anywhere else going forward. The chocolate chip cookies tasted like a batch I would've cooked in my own kitchen and the vanilla ice cream was refreshingly flavorful where I could actually taste the vanilla bean instead of a bunch of artificial flavoring. Forget cupcakes! This is a must-do if you're in the Georgetown/Foggy Bottom area with the family. I'm only sorry that I didn't go into the store and try some of the other combos but then again, classic is always a sure bet.

For those who aren't used to metropolitan cost of living, it's a little on the prices side, but that's true to some degree in the whole city. Overall selection is somewhat limited, too. That aside, the ice cream is delicious, cookies are fresh, and combining both is to die for!

Nothing amazing. It was an Ok experience for me. Had chocolate chip cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream. Regular cookies with a little better less sweet vanilla ice cream. Would still recommend this place though. Keep in mind that portions are kinda big so you can always share.

A great concept that I can see college kids going bonkers for. I had a sandwich with one chocolate chip cookie (it was over baked and crusty) and one snicker doodle cookie that was as soft as a pillow. They make your sandwich on the spot so you can customize however you'd like, but you have to eat it quickly because the ice cream melts in a flash.

If you were to compare this place to Insomnia, Captain Cookie has a much better by far chocolate chip cookie, but insomnia had better non chocolate chip cookies. Definitely a place I’ll go again!
