Reviews of Sod House Bakery
I stopped by Sod House Bakery the other day to grab breakfast. I had a flaky croissant and a tasty grilled cheese sandwich with ham. I was especially surprised by the quality of my latte (because coffee at bakeries usually sucks): smooth, perfect temperature and nice latte art, great attention to details. Another time I had their breakfast sandwich, with has fried egg, ham and cheddar in house-made buttermilk biscuit. It tastes fresh and tasty, but the texture of cheddar isn't the best.
While overall I'm happy with their food and drink, I am not a fan of their default 20% tip policy, especially that they don't always make sure everyone is aware of it. For example, Right now for a $3.6 latte they would simply charge you $3.95 (+tax) but your final bill comes at actually $4.75 (+tax&tip), which is a bit shocking to me.
Coffee extraordinaire Simon made the most decadent classy perfect quintessential fastidious marvelous pleasant cappuccino and cardamom latte my being hath ever tasted. The Marionberry pop tart was flaky and exuded the vogue mukbang Emma chamberlain vibes that were much appreciated. 11/10 would consume again. Give these folks a raise. Peace and love
My goodness. So much yum.
Ok, but seriously, the staff is just ike the Chocolate Almond Croissant. Just the perfect amount of sweet without going overboard. I also got a London Fog, which I had no idea what it was, and it's now my new favorite hot drink! They know their craft here.
Edit: I'm not a big fan of the coffee drinks. I got a mocha today and did not like it. But I like my drinks sweet and my coffee a light to medium roast. Darker roasts and espressos tend to taste burnt and heavy to me. So take all this with a grain of salt. The ham and cheddar croissant was good. Could've used more of the ham and cheddar part of it, but still very tasty. I think I'll stick with the chocolate almond croissant and a London Fog!! Thank you for being here!
I have been a customer at the Sod House bakery since they first opened! Nina and Evan have done incredible things with their delectable baked goods, and incredible coffee and drinks menu. I have tried practically every item they offer and have never been disappointed. My personal favorite from their bakery is the Blueberry Cardamom Kentucky Butter Cake it is my favorite. Other delicious items include the cinnamon roles, their take on pop tarts, great for kids! And the ham and cheese croissant or a breakfast sandwich are both great for a heartier staple. I have since moved away from Seattle, but Everytime I visit the city this is a must-go for me!
One of my go to cafe// bakery when I visit this neighborhood! They have the best cardamom and ginger lattes! There is even a. Cardamom and rose latte. Really smooth and a perfect blend. Their pastries are always so yummy and I try a new one every visit. Today is their biscuit! Pop tarts are sweet and flaky but good when you want something sweet. I love their Kentucky butter cake too. Chocolate chip with sea salt is one of my favorites. Really- you can’t go wrong.
Nice little bakery coffee shop. Had a whole milk 12 oz latte. Well steamed milk and great foam art. As a whole the drink was average but in Seattle that is still very good. Pastries looked amazing. Nice selection is sweet and savory. There was Wi-Fi. I was able to hang out for awhile. It was a comfortable place to take a break and get some work done.
So many yummy pastries! The chocolate chip cookies here melt in your mouth. I've had pop tart pastries here too that are quite good as well. I've seen signs for ice cream sandwiches but I'm always too early to eat ice cream. Has anyone tried them?
This is a fun little bakery shop with creative pastry ideas. In addition, they make their own homemade poptarts that are flavorful with the right amount of sweetness. My latte was great as well. Unfortunately, on my most recent visit, I ordered the cinnamon roll and left unsatisfied. The frosting was a little too buttery and kind of separated and slid off the roll itself while the actual roll lacked that fresh cinnamon taste. Since I was pretty happy with the flavors of some of the other pastries I will go back.
I appreciate this place. The owners have stayed true to their passion for baking and it shows and tastes great. Comfortable atmosphere, outdoor chairs, monster cookies and croissants with a quirky ordering system - perfect neighborhood atmosphere - long live SHB!
Pleasantly surprised with a solid latte and well melted pastrami. I have yet to try the croissants, hope they're good
Great croissants, some of the best in Seattle, and I'm French, unlike some other places, these area but smaller and more tasteful closer to true French ones. The staff is really nice, and the coffee is a big surprise, you can get specialty coffee here, with nice art and their staff actually know how to make a good espresso shot and micro-foam.
Go for the unique pastries like the pop tart and the butter cake. The typical ones are just ok.
Chai is very unique, gives me an almost coriander kind of flavor. Spiced and sweet. Coffee is solid.
Minus 1 star for automatic 20% tip and the sign pretending that it's optional. There's better tip solutions available.
Enjoyed breakfast here. I may be the only one excited that her cocoa had foam art ^_^ the cinnamon roll and breakfast biscuit were rather good too :) I'm not much for biscuit sandwiches, but Sod's looked good and sure enough was!
The blueberry cardemom butter cake is divine. It's so perfect, perhaps the best baked good I've ever experienced.
I'm no coffee expert but it was also good.
I'm just so pleased with the butter cake that I had to run to review this place if only for that one item. I'm very excited to try the pop tart next time I go
Stopped by yesterday for a cinnamon roll to go- the pastry was tasty, plenty of cinnamon, and the cream cheese icing was great!
What I didn’t appreciate was being charged a 20% tip for putting my pastry in a box for me to consume at home. By the time I had paid the man who grabbed my item had gone into the back and I wasn’t able to correct the tip amount. Being forced to tip on having a pastry out in a box seemed excessive.
I always find the food delicious but haven’t been by in a few months. One woman working the counter would never make hot drinks hot, even when I requested “extra.” Pointed out that it was still luke warm and got a “I’ll get it right next time” response. Not good! I’ll pay $5 for my mocha but I need it at least to be hot. This makes me sad as I love our little neighborhood bakery! Thinking of stopping by today and hoping for a better experience.
Solid pastry selection with good execution. Coffee is from Seven, which is good quality and extracted properly. Decor is really nice, service great.
Recommend 👍
The food is yum!!! We ordered almost every vegetarian product there, and everything was amazing! The croissant was very flaky, and the sandwich was grilled to perfection! I highly recommend!
There are no shortage of excellent breakfast options around here, and Sod House is absolutely one of the best. Delicious pastries, great hot chocolate that isn't cloyingly sweet, and delicious coffee and tea. A fantastic treat.
Everything is delicious..muffins, cookies, tasty coffee and very friendly service. My husband says best Molasses cookie he’s ever had!
Thank you for being a bright spot in the Ravenna neighborhood ☕️☺️
The shop is super cute and simple. The coffee was good - very strong espresso. The toptarts are flaky and buttery!
In Seattle from Portland for a little vacation and so thrilled to find this bakery. The kouign amann is one of the best I’ve had anywhere (including Paris!) and the chocolate almond croissant was so lovely (we heated it up at home just a bit for extra crispy tenderness!). The savory tarts are spectacular as well (lightly heated these up as well). These folks know their way around pastry dough!! Had to go two days in a row. Yes the tip is 20%. Kind of figure it’s the least we can do for folks who are working hard through a pandemic, on our behalf.
Best pastries and sandwiches! And really nice folks working :-)
I don't get to visit this place often enough. It's a great place for a quick coffee and pastry item as I take my morning break from work. I've tried quite a few items from their case and have really enjoyed them all. Though today's item made me feel the need to write this review... Today, I ordered a breakfast biscuit sandwich and it was phenomenal! Best biscuit I've had in a long time and the ratio of ingredients didn't make me feel skimped. They're coffee is always top notch too. I made the mistake ONCE of grabbing a coffee next door at Bagel Oasis and heed my warning! Go to Sod House Bakery instead. You'll be happier you did.
Marionberry pop tart was excellent. Great crust! Pumpkin spice latte was better than expected
No doubt, it's a great bakery. Great selection of pastries and unique sandwiches. It is pricey but you have to give them some slack for that. Good ingredients and quality, a high rent and paying for top rated bakers means you get what you pay for. You get a great product. It's my indulgence.
Great place for brunch. I had Caprese sandwich with roasted peppers instead of tomatoes and their summer special seltzer drink (Rose Cinnamon flavor). Both were amazing
Good barista and sandwiches. Also, the pesto Goleta is tasty.
My favorite bakery ever! The quality and variety of pastries are amazing. My favorites are the kentucky butter cakes, and ham and cheese crossiant. They make excellent coffee, with homemade syrups to add to it. The lavender latte is my favorite! The employees are friendly, service is great.
Sod house is so good! I love their pop tarts, and they have a really good almond AND chocolate croissant! Everything I’ve tried there is great!
If you want a bakery that gets it right every time, then go somewhere else. We've bought delicious treats here before, but today we bought overbaked duds, including a poptart. The poptart filling was so hard you could eat the entire crust and leave the filling as is--it was basically rock candy. Why would a professional baker put that out to sell?
One must always have a bakery in one's neighborhood, right? We've enjoyed the Sod House. My waistline might say it would be better if they were not here. I love the Kougin Aman (and I know I did not spell that correctly.) Good coffee, unique cold drinks and we have enjoyed the addition of home made ice cream this summer. It is also a great place to hang out during their quieter hours.
Would definitely go here again- stopped in when I woke up super early and just needed some pastries to get through the morning. This place delivered! Excellent flaky croissants and nice selection.
Very friendly staff. Delicious pastries and breakfast biscuit sandwiches. I stop in here multiple times a week since starting my new job on the area. 💙 …
I come here specifically for their house made pop tarts. They are beautiful and nostalgic. The marionberry flavor is by far my favorite. Cinnamon sugar is alright, too.
Good breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese, and ham or bacon. Had a vanilla latte with beautiful whip art. Free WiFi, a decent place to sit and have breakfast. Next time I might have to try the homemade poptarts!
One of the best espresso coffees I've had in Seattle in awhile. I also appreciated the freshly made baked goods. There were fewer good seating options than I was hoping for.
Good treats but a bit pricy. We got an assortment of cookies and a special (biscuits and gravy) so our bill added up quickly. All tasty and well made.
Great pastries, quiche, breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Especially the Marrionberry Toptart!
A little expensive but delicious coffee and yummy goods! And the barista was very friendly. Would def come back more often if it wasn't $12 for a coffee and croissant!
Something about this place is so comforting. Pastries are beautiful looking and so yummy. Tried the top tarts and butter cake.
Very good sweet and savory pastries and baked goods. Paninis and other items on menu but I didn't get past the bakery case on this visit.
Creative and super-delicious baked goods like Top Tarts. Service was a bit slow, though, especially to get a refill of coffee.
I go here all the time and they are always very nice and the food is always delicious- also their coffee is of the gods!!!!
Great bakery . The almond croissant probably have 1000 calories but who cares it's so delicious.
The butter cake was SOO GOOD! Absolutely perfect. Will for sure be back for more treats!
The pop tarts look beautiful. I had a decadent Butter Cake instead though. A little pricey, but quite delicious.
This place is incredible. The home-made pop tarts are the flakiest pastry I've ever had in my entire life.
Wonderful service, great coffee, and the pastry I had was incredible. 5/5 added to my favorites
A great spot with legit baked goods. Their “pop tart” thingies are bomb and they do a great job on their croissants.
Sod House Bakery has been an addicting addition to our neighborhood. Cute cafe and delicious food and pastries.
The top tarts are delicious, the biscuits are the right amount of crumbly and buttery, and the coffee is bottomless.
Cute place, amazing baked goods! Fresh and made with love. Good coffee too.
Pastries are excellent, especially the butter cakes, but coffee quality has been particularly hit-or-miss the past several months.
The baristas and cashiers aren't the most helpful, they are so basic 'wanna be' slow hipster baristas/cashiers...it's unfortunate because the pastries are good.
Great baked goods!! Coffee took over 35 minutes to get ... we had finished eating our food by the time we got our Americanos
Delicious pastry and perfect London Fog.
Stopped by this cute shop two days in a row for a quick coffee. Baristas were polite and fast.
Just okay comparing to other bakeries. 5 stars for customer service!
Great latte and croissant!
One of my favorite coffee and pastries in Seattle!
One of the premium pastry and coffee shops in Seattle. Generous portions that sell out fast, so go early.
Good pastries and coffee, but limited number of items especially if you go early. Also very loud inside.
There are better bakeries in the area; things weren't too fresh or delicious.
The batista was friendly and happily split a hot chocolate into two cups for the kids I nanny.
Fantastic bakerybwoth good coffee. The Kentucky butter cake is excellent!
Adorable neighborhood bakery with delicious breakfast sandwiches, and pop tarts that will keep you coming back!
Delicious baked goods and they were very accommodating of our group of moms and babies.
Wonderful pastries like croissants," top tarts", and cinnamon rolls.
I loved the variety of great pastries, and the breakfast sandwich was excellent.
Excellent espresso. Adorable treats. Very nice staff.
Visiting with my husband from Idaho. One of the best bakeries we've ever been to.
Pastries were cold and dense, not flaky and light like a cream puff and eclair should be. Staff was friendly.
The coffee is excellent and the Kentucky Butter Cakes are the thing dreams are made of!
Amazing little bakery with delicious “pop tarts” and coffees.
I like coming here to work. A lot of light, friendly staff, and homemade pastry. Yes please :)
This is our go-to bakery. Everything is delicious and it has a great atmosphere.
Great spot for studying. Friendly staff. Great treats for savory or sweet cravings.
Great little bakery. Buttermilk biscuits are to die for. Service is excellent
Best bakery around hands down!!!! Everything here is awesome.
Amazing bakery! The almond croissant is out of this world!
