Reviews of Rose Foods
A solid bagel shop that will satisfy your bagel craving. This is for sure not a NY style bagel - so be sure you know that before you head on over. I thought there could be more lox on the bagel. The open sandwich is a tad more expensive than the closed.
We got bagels for breakfast here. I took a risk and got an everything bagel with cream cheese, salmon caviar, dill, and onions. It was amazing. The feel of the salmon eggs being crushed to nothing between my teeth reminded me of how my ancestors must have felt eating tadpoles scooped out of the pond with their hands. 10/10 would order again
We heard good things from friends and swung in on our visit to Portland. The ordering process online was smooth and easy. We got a text notification when the order was ready - right in the middle of our anticipated window. We drove up and parked on the street easily, walked up and got our order.
Each of us ordered the bagel sandwich with cucumbers, dill, capers, cream cheese, and of course, lox. The bagel was crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle and the flavors of everything was fresh and delicious. I forwent onions, and asking to exclude them online was also an easy process.
The coffee was also good, especially on a wind torn day like the one we had. When they open back up, the setting looks cozy and inviting.
If you are coming from NY/NJ area and expecting that type of bagel you will be disappointed.
The everything bagel was covered heavy with everything seasoning on top, huge plus, but the bottom had zero seasoning, huge negative. The bagel had a texture similar to ciabatta, which isn't bad, but different. Also it wasn't very rounded, but more flat.
We had the rose lox which had a very light taste, but was great eaten on it's own.
It was a good bagelish thing, just different from what we expected. Definitely something to try out. Also just like every other place in Portland it's busy!!
These are the BEST BAGELS in Portland! Online ordering and pickup is a piece of cake and they offer some great bagel flavors and cream cheese! I highly recommend the everything bagel with the herb cream cheese for a really flavorful breakfast. Great to see all staff wearing face masks when I picked up the bagels from the pickup window! I will definitely get bagels here again.
One of the best restaurants that serve breakfast in Portland, as well as the people working in the restaurant are nice and fun people and provide good services to the customer
Such a beautiful little place. The branding is charming and distinct. Wonderful vegan options, and good coffee! It's places like Rose Foods that make Portland such a great and inclusive restaurant town (and make me very confident that I want to move here.)
Extraordinary bagels, with perfect balance texture of crunch and chew. Very good cream cheese spread though always ask for it on the heavy side as they tend to go light and the smush it together as a sandwich. You have to ask for it open faced.
I'm conflicted about writing this review. I love all my local spots in Portland and strive to promote them whenever possible but, I've been to Rose Foods twice and both times have left with a poor taste in my mouth. Just today, the woman (late 30s/40s?) working register was pretty rude and seemed agitated that I was there (to give them business?) and honestly, I left scratching my head as to why. The bagels are solid and on the pricier side but I'll gladly wait for trips to NYC to get my fix to spare myself the unprovoked rudeness.
I really like this place. I only discovered it a week or so ago, but I've already spent several lunches there with my daughter (who loves bagels). The people are friendly, the prices are good, and the quality of the food is absolutely first rate. I haven't gone too wide on the menu, just a bagel sandwich or two, and a few lightly adorned bagels. However, I feel like I have enough experience with the place to say that they really care about the quality of the food they serve. There's usually only a few varieties of bagel available: a good thing, because they're all fresh. I have no doubt that the more elaborate sandwiches and salads rise to the same level of care and quality. It's just a basic deli, nothing is spectacular about the menu or the decor or the service, but it's a very high quality stop off for a quick bite at breakfast or lunch. It is one of my favorite places in Portland, and one of the first places I'll bring visitors from here on.
Best bagels in New England. We regularly debate making the 2.5 hour trip just for Rose Foods bagels.
A what a fabulous new addition to the Portland food scene! Excellent bagels, spreads & classic Jewish deli fish toppings. Cute dining area with fantastic counter service.
Update: the yogurt & granola are top notch. Free refills on coffee is great!
Best bread of a bagel I've had in a long time!! The shop decor is adorable and service is very good, especially for covid times... the everything spices leave something to be desired however.
I always love coming in and getting their bagels! Their bagel sandwiches are also really delicious and they are always adding more to their menu! I had the L train since I'm a huge fan of mushrooms and jalapeños. 😍 …
Probably my favorite place we ate in Portland! My husband and I both had an everything bagel with lox which was the perfect amount of filling. The coffee was good too! If we lived there it would be a top contender for Saturday breakfast. You can tell the owners have put a lot of effort into their branding and how the inside feels, which really pays off. I would have loved to try anything else on the menu as I'm sure it's all great!
Lovely. Delicious Coffee (best I've had in Maine.. but it's roasted in Brooklyn). Amazing salt-flecked bagels. Great service. Space, windows, classy colors. Thumbs up!
Not as good as I expected based on Bon Appettit review. We stopped by before noon yet they were already out of two things we ordered. There is only one soup option - the maza ball soup. The maza balls were good, but the soup a bit thin. The sandwitches options are limited, but if you like lox there are a lot of options. I love lox but turns out having so much of them at one time was hard to handle, I had to leave some. I was not impressed with the flavor of the bagles, I had better ones.
Finally, the bathroom facilities are totally inadequate. There is one unisex bathroom shared by patrons and staff, there was always a line while we were there. I had
to wait 9 minutes and the saw the person go back to the kitchen. That's how I know this one bathroom is shared by all.
Two soups, two sandwitches, two soft drinks were 57 dollars.
What a GEM. I fell in love with this place the second we opening the front door. The space is very cozy and inviting. Their merch wall is filled with goodies and the food is obviously the star. Coffee is stellar and pairs perfectly with their bagels. Go for an open-faced bagel to get even more goodies piled on. A perfect stop in Portland!
THE GOOD:
The specialty bagel today was a garlic fennel type, and even though I couldn't really catch the fennel, it was very good and a super awesome crunch on the outside.
THE BAD:
1. The ordering system seems like a completely unnecessary complication. Plus they REFUSE to take your order at the window and force you to call. There are several restaurants operating in the area that don't require ordering ahead AND have less wait times for items far more complicated than a toasted bagel.
2. They are VERY stingy with the cream cheese, especially considering how much more they charge for their vegan spread!!! $3!? You can buy a tub of Tofutti at Shaw's for just $0.99 more than that! (Seriously, the name brand is $3.99 for 8oz of the SAME stuff).
I'm new to the area, so I'll probably try them again when they are operating more "normally". I will admit that my expectations were higher because of the ratings on here, but maybe the best of both worlds is to just buy the cream cheese from Shaw's and get a delicious bagel from them separately. However, I don't believe I will be choosing them over my normal bagel stop unless it's closed (which happened to be the case today).
Love love love this place!
Super interesting additions to traditional standards, like adding pickled golden beets and fresh dill to lox and onion - OY!
The staff was super kind, and patient. But you should be prepared to be patient as well - they handcraft everything to order and it takes a few minutes but boy is it worth it...
Husband and I came here our first morning in Portland. Definitely a wise choice. I’m a huge bagel fan and loved the classic lox bagel! Best one I’ve ever had! Bagels were so amazing. Perfect texture and flavor. Friendly customer service. Would definitely come here again. Might even stop in there again before we head back home! Totally worth the stop!
This was one of the best tasting lox and bagels I’ve ever had. We walked here from downtown which I wouldn’t recommend since it’s really not in an area otherwise worth a walk (under the highway, next to strip malls). The restaurant itself is retro and fun, they have a great visual brand. Only complaint is the prices, I felt like I was at home in Downtown Boston paying 11$ for a bagel sandwich.
The lox bagel sandwiches are delicious!
We liked this so much we came back the next morning. My favorite thing I had was the bagel sandwich with Sable and herbed cream cheese on a salted dark rye bagel.
Possibly some of the best bagels in Portland, along with great lox and solid latkas. Friendly service and fun building, but be prepared for prices on the higher side compared to similar spots you might find in NYC or DC. Be sure to check them out! Definitely coming back.
The L Train bagel sandwich is my favorite. Cozy little place with photos of Portland from back in the days on displays.
Excellent bagels, plenty of unique and customizable options. Deducting a star due to the outrageous prices. I used to live in NYC where you can get bagels like these for $8 instead of $16. Would like to eat at Rose Foods more, but can’t with the poor value
Excellent Classic NOVA on an everything bagel
Best lunch ever. I split the fisherman's feast with my brother and every bite was incredible. If bagels and curd and smoked fish are your thing, you cannot miss this place.
Wonderfully cute indoors and friendly staff. Lox Everything bagel with Vegan cream cheese was to die for. Smokey, rich, filling, and savory.
Rose Foods exceeded my expectations to say the least. The bread is phenomenal, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the cream cheeses were.
Always in search of the perfect bagel and Rose comes very close. Had my usual - poppy untoasted with olive cream cheese. It was very fresh with the right combination of crunch and chew. I will be back!
Excellent spot for breakfast or brunch and one of the only Jewish style delis in the Portland area. Definitely worth a visit!
A breakfast "must" in Portland. The bagel, I would say, was a 9/10, but the spreads were a 12/10. We particularly loved the chopped liver! Great service and an easy online ordering system.
I finally made my way to the other side of 295 to check out Rose Foods for breakfast. I'll definitely be back! The bagel sandwiches were great (try the Orchard Street on rye!) and the coffee hit the spot.
Ordering was simple online, and I got a text about the order being ready at least 5 minutes before the estimate. They prepare the coffee when you pick up so that it's hot and fresh.
Good food and good customer service!
After two years of eating bagels across the Portland area - so many good options - I still like Rose Food bagels the best. They keep it simple and focused with the classic bagel types. Although I wish they would do a salt bagel, because those are my fav. Keep up the good work Rose Foods team!
Rye bagel is worth the trip… even from New York City
I didn't think I could ever fall in love with another bagel after experiencing Scratch's sea salt bagels but here I am, swooning like a school girl over Rose Foods. Consistently fresh, warm and delicious, there ain't nothing wrong with this. I personally go to the classic but you can't really go wrong when combining one of their bagels with cream cheese, lox and dill in various combinations.
Call your order in ahead of time! Seriously just do it! You cannot order at the establishment you can only do it on the phone or online.. It's worth it. I love a good bagel and they really do it right here. I will be stopping in again next time I'm in portland.
The lox sandwich was good, no doubt about it but I don't understand the prices. For 16 bucks I was expecting a heap of fish or something to put it over the top, that wasn't the case. Again, good sandwiches but you can go to one of the other places and get good sandwiches for 5 bucks less.
Bagels are amazing and friendly staff. Ordering is alittle confusing but overall pretty sweet place
One of my favorite bagel places ever! A bit pricey but happy to support a small local business.
Pro tip: Call ahead and order.
Delicious!!!!
Currently not allowing indoor guest and taking orders by phone. Super friendly staff.
My boyfriend and I stopped in and grabbed a quick breakfast from them on Sunday. We were unaware of the ordering ahead, but the staff let us know and we called it in by phone and they had it out to us in 10 -15 minutes at most.
Thanks Rose Foods!
Also, Drip Coffee is A+!
I unfortunately have to echo the prior posts about unpleasant customer service. 5 star bagel, 1 star service. The woman in the window was very pretentious and unfriendly, the man who delivered the bagel was much better. I would have enjoyed the bagel more had she not put such a bad taste in my mouth.
I'm frankly amazed at the write-ups this place is getting because it really is nothing to write home about. Growing up on great Jewish deli foods, I really wanted to like this place. On Sunday mornings, my grandfather used to bring "appetizings" (smoked fish) and bagels to our house. Portland has needed a decent Jewish deli. Unfortunately, Rose Foods isn't it. I was unimpressed with my first visit, with the bagels being forgettable, and no where near as good as those that can be found in South Portland, but it was getting so much press that I decided to give it another try. My husband and I had breakfast there, and were underwhelmed. He loves smoked fish, but couldn't even remember the place when someone asked about it. Very spartan decor and the food doesn't make up for the lack of atmosphere. At the risk of sounding snobbish, I can only imagine that the people who love this place haven't yet experienced really good Jewish deli. If that's you, you might like it. If not, you'll be disappointed. I don't plan to return.
Awesome bagels and bagel sandwichs. People are super super friendly.
Best bagels and cream cheese in Portland. Comparable to the coveted scratch bakery bagels.
Quick and easy to pick up online orders too.
I wanted the most basic order (half dozen bagels) and it turned super complicated. I went to order at the window and was told to order online or on the phone. So I try to call and the phone wasn’t working (someone else was ordering). Then online it was wicked complicated to find the half dozen bagel order. I ended up ordering the wrong thing and they had to call and ask about it. Could have been soooooo simple. “Hi, may I please have a half dozen bagels. 2 plain 2 everything 1 poppy and 1 seasame.” Maybe 20 seconds in total to get everything set and ordered. Instead it was a 10 minute ordeal. Not sure about the food, I haven’t tried it yet because I’m too shook from this experience
This photo itself should be enough to tell you that you have to head over to Rose Foods to grab a bagel and lox! Just do it... you’ll be a happier person.
Words cannot describe how delicious their bagels are. I mean, not only is their cream cheese incredible but their bagels, I mean, c'mon! A nice, soft, moist inner with a crispy outter. Amazing- you can't go wrong. I wish I had a picture for ya but honestly the moment I open that wrapper, I'm already licking my fingers.
You just cannot find bagels this good on the west coast. I just had to stop by and grab an extra dozen to take home to California with me. These are the best bagels I've had by a big margin.
Like anybody needs my recommendation to check this place out. It is already highly rated for a reason. I think the bagels are some of the best around. The bagel sandwich creations are excellent. I especially like the salami, egg and cheese with mayo and hot sauce. You will too.
The best bagel I've had in Portland. They're New York style but not quite New York bagels. They come with a New York price tag, though. The only issue that I have with the bagels, whether you're getting it with cream cheese or as a sandwich, is that they don't cut them in half. Every deli and bodega in NYC will cut your bagel in half.
Great bagels. All the usual things you would want for them as well. Keep and eye out for Pizza Bagel night! They were unexpectedly amazing. The service is fast and very friendly. Keep in mind, it is not the cheapest place for bagels. That's not what they are about. You are paying for, and getting, quality.
The bagels were so delicious. The herb cream cheese is where it’s at! Deff order extra cream cheese if you like it thick they kinda ration it like butter.
This is my new favorite breakfast spot and place to do a little computer work when i have a few hours to kill. I a addicted to the "good deal" lox bagel sandwich. It is so great to have an authentic Jewish deli in Maine, definitely check this pace out! The dark rye bagels are so good!!!
A great bagel wherever you can get it, especially with the horse radish cream cheese. My only problem was the inability to order at the window in their COVID set up. I didn't realize this and couldn't get through on the phone so I had to place an online order from the bench in front of the store. Not that big of a problem just kind of strange.
Great bagels and great selection of fish - but customer service can improve. Website and phone ordering were both down for random times on a Saturday morning (guessing they were busy) and it was a little frustrating getting through to place an order.
Bagels are amazing. I tried the egg, cheese, and salami with hot sauce sandwich. It was a great combination of flavors. On ground floor. Handicap accessible. Very friendly served. Best bagels in Portland.
They only accept phone orders even if you stand next to the open window. That’s ridiculous. On the top of that you have to tell your credit card details by the phone so that everyone can hear instead of paying on the spot🤦🏻♀️
Though the bagels were delicious …
Bagels are 10 out of 10. I’m vegan and they even offer a vegan spread despite having a predominantly meat/dairy heavy menu. If Mr Bagel is like Olive Garden this place is like going to Italy to eat. I love this place.
Busy Sunday morning at Rose Foods, first time visit for us. Simple theme: bagels, in many variations. Order, and find a spot to sit, and they'll come and find you with your order. Had a classic everything bagel with cream cheese and lox, very nice. They serve coffee and other beverages, too.
I’ve been an avid deli guy my whole life. I’ve eaten my way through the east coast’s finest delis and I have to say this was by far one of the best bagels I’ve ever had. You can truly taste the love in all of the components from the in-house nova-lox to the scratch made bagels. Thank you for the experience.
LOVE this place. We moved from Brooklyn and the food here is as good as a great New York deli. The best bagels we’ve found in Maine, and the design is top notch to boot. Some would say their prices are high, but its well worth it for the quality. Thank you Rose!
I was in NYC a month ago and had the opportunity to try Russ and Daughters. I have been craving food of that caliber since. I was so happy to find Rose Foods and say that I actually found it better than anything I’ve had in NY. This place could easily open in NYC and have a 45 minute wait any day of the week but instead we have it all to ourselves up here in Portland.
I tried the everything bagel with herb CC, pastrami nova, onion, tomato and dill. I will certainly be back to try whatever else they have on offer.
I was excited when I heard that there was a new bagel place opening up in town but I left today feeling a little disappointed. It's one thing to have high quality fish on a bagel for a high price but that doesn't mean they have to charge high prices for the simple stuff too. 8 dollars feels steep for a bagel with cream cheese and an ice coffee. Basically this isn't the place to go for a simple breakfast, as you need be prepared to drop some serious dough - some sandwiches run as high as 16 dollars. Additionally the concrete floors and stark white walls of the cacophonous dining area left a lot to be desired. And in the end the prices stack up a little too fast for me to visit this place with any regularity.
Very good bagels and appetizing. Plenty of seating. Oooonly thing that gets me is that the patina of NYC deli falls away because the counter service is too patient and Mainey. You go in, you say what you want, you step aside: that's a bagel place. This is a Maine takeaway with subway tiles. I get it: no one wants this but me. And maybe it's even better this way. But it's a break in authenticity that for me, I mean, standing in line behind a couple with a stroller starting agape at the menu while they wonder how bagel stores work -- the facade crumbles and it all turns precious and cute. So yes, five stars for food. But if you know what a place that looks like this is actually like & how great that is, you're going to get cranky, as I just have.
Delicious bagels with plenty of options for a great bagel sandwich for breakfast AND lunch. And let me tell you, they don't skimp on the cream cheese, for the best.
Great Bagels. A little pricey (bagel, cream cheese, and a coffee will run you about $7) but all are very good. They do a special daily bagel flavor, the pastrami flavor was awesome.
Yes- pricey but I've waited decades for good bagels and creamy cream cheese. Servicee is well organized. Atmosphere is nil but I'm there for the food. The crowd was a big mix of families, singles, young and old. Everyone seemed happy. I hope they stay a long, long time. I understand the latkes are coming. Can't wait to try them.
Cute little breakfast and lunch place. The bagels here are hands down some of the best I’ve ever had. If you’re here for lunch try the Reuben sandwich - moth watering good. The coffee is excellent too. This place really lights up an otherwise dull neighborhood.
This place is 5 stars for one reason...because this review can't put in 10 stars. Seriously, Rose Foods is the place to go for a breakfast sandwich that is out of this world. I had their newest "L Train" which has pickled jalepenos and oyster mushrooms on it. Locally sourced from North Spore Mushrooms out of Westbrook. These shrooms make the sandwich amazing. And yes, the bagel was the best I have had. Make the trip, enjoy the personable staff and relaxed surroundings.
Found this place on a recent weekend visit to Portland . Probably the best bagel I've every eaten . Ended on picking a dozen up on our way back to Upstate N.Y.!
Probably some of the best Jewish deli food you can get in Maine. Excellent bagels made in house, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Fantastic lox, nova, whitefish...but most importantly the chopped chicken liver is on point.
A bit pricey, but very very good. Excellent bagels and lox, good coffee, fresh squeezed orange juice. Friendly people, simple but comfortable place to eat. The main issue is finding parking. They're right on Forest Ave, but some of the side streets generally have spaces.
Delicious bagels and toppings. Long wait after placing order online, but was worth it. Would definitely eat here again.
Best bagel I've had I think ever! So light and airy and crunchy and oooooohhh the cream cheese! Please do yourself a favor and check these guys out support local!
Better than any New York bagel. First class lox. This is truly a gem off the beaten track. Worth a trip from Boston just for breakfast.
One of my favorite places to get bagels in town. I'm a student at USM, and it's (in my opinion), the only place to go for food nearby.
Besides having good food, it's a cozy, friendly environment with some cool knick-knacks and fun cook-books.
What an amazing spot. Take out only but so accommodating, the lady up front was so sweet. Bagel absolutely slapped. Best on the trip.
Best chopped liver and bagels north of NY.
The best bagels ever. Delicious whitefish salad. Combined into a great sandwich. I wish I lived next door to this place. And the coffee was pretty good too.
There are seriously no bagels that can beat rose foods' bagels. Worth every penny. Their pickles are pretty awesome too.
Pricey, but outstanding. Seems to be always busy, but efficient. Fisherman's Feast for 2 only gets 2 bagels, so order at least one more bagel and maybe bring along another person.
Best in town! Everything is excellent, food, customer service, decor :) We go to Rose Foods once a week at least.
Dear Maine,
I wouldn’t normally take the time to write a review, but I’m filled with such joy I could plotz. I’m a Jewish transplant from Chicago. I’ve enjoyed it here. The summers are temperate and lovely and the people are salt of the earth. I’ve enjoyed your shellfish and your lighthouses, but something was conspicuously absent. A real, Jewish deli.
There are bagel options in Portland that are respectable, but I know my bubbe would bite into one and keel over from all that goyisha mishegas. Rose Foods is the real deal. I’d wait in line happily like I did at Kaufman’s back in Skokie.
So, if you're Jewish or not, if you’re craving a bissel of schmaltz or just (finally) a decent bagel, come to Rose Foods. You won’t be disappointed and neither will your poor mother. Why don’t you give her a call? You never call.
Possibly the best bagels in main!
It seems to be the year of the bagels and Rose Foods is a strong contender for some very solid bagels and spreads. I’m a big fan of the Jewish Deli concept and they had a lot to offer besides just bagels ( sandwiches, latkes, pickles etc.) I ordered the Uncle Leo (lox, onion frittata, and herb cc) and a plate of half sours. I thought it was a great sandwich and Chef Chad Malloy is definitely getting creative. The loss of one star is due to price point, which is kind of high. Though, I’ll definitely be back for more great food!
The lox bagel is so yummy with the herb CC. They sell out of bagels early, so by noon time you are at slim Pickens. Matzah ball soup (with chicken) broth is very flavorful- I'm not big on the matzah ball texture in general.
I'm only giving it a 4 because much of their stuff is seafood inspired. Our family really isn't into seafood. Probably mom and dad's fault. If we were this is an easy 5.
Had a bagel with lox. It's a type of salmon. Rather salty and pretty darn good. Wifey had the herb spread. It's pretty darn good as well.
Don't let the initial appeanace dexieve you, there is ample seating. The service was excellent.
It's your classic deli with a slant toward seafood, which considering it's location makes perfect sense.
As a life long New Yorker (Lived in the heart of Brooklyn my entire life before moving to Portland 5 years ago). I was Dumbfounded when i tried a Bagel from here. Instantly reminded me back home. Ive been back everyday since for my morning Breakfast
Bagels are good. Workers were friendly. It's a cool spot. They have tons of merch to sell. I'd visit again if it wasn't out of the way for me. I do like it tho
It didn't live up to the hype but it's good. Had the mazoh ball soup and a pastrami sandwich, was too much, wish they had a half sandwich option. Also ordered a bagel to go, was very dissapointed by the bagel.
Excellent crispy bagel! Good cc and super cute shirts!! 10/10 recommend
Great vegan options such as vegan cream cheese. Very busy in the weekends.
Great bagel sandwiches. Got a mixed dozen and cream cheese for the road. Happy we stopped by.
What better way to start the morning than a pastrami with mustard at 7:30 in the morning? And their bacon, egg and cheese is fantastic; I don't know where they get their bacon from but it is thick and amazing. Fantastic food!
Due to COVID precautions we had to place our order online after arriving. We were disappointed by how long it took us to place an order online(seemed over complicated that we couldn’t pay in person and couldn’t call via phone). We only ordered the nova lox which was fresh and flavorful but not worth the 30 minute wait.
If you want a good bagel. This place is one of the best bagel spots i have ever been to. Go here. Get a bagel... call me after.
Pricey, hipster hangout with undeniably great kosher deli fare. Prepare to take out a second mortgage for a truely great hand crafted Ruben. Worth it? Not everyday, but boy is it good!
I always get a poppy seed with cream cheese I it's yummy evert time. I see lots of reviews about people complaining about the service but I have never had any issues.
As many others have mentioned, pretty top tier bagels for Portland, which comes with the cost of a terrible customer experience.
Tried almost everything on the menu, and for the most part it's great, but the pastrami on rye was $16 and mostly greasy fat. Some people might enjoy biting into globs of stretchy fat but not this guy.
Quality is exceptional. Cute space and friendly staff.
Had a smoked whitefish bagel and it was delicious. Staff was super friendly. 10/10 would return. Beautiful bagels.
delicious bagels - perfect size and just the right amount of schmear. always visit whenever we’re in portland
When they first opened, we weren't majorly hyped or impressed like all of our friends, BUT I had a "make your own" bagel sandwich for my birthday, and I am officially obsessed.
Inventive and local flavors. The cream cheese and lox are exceptional. Nice half dozen day old bags to buy. Nice Jewish eating books to read.
One of the best bagels I've ever had - coupled with (usually) a short to moderate wait and it is a fantastic go-to breakfast / brunch.
Liver and gribenes were excellent!
Amazing bagels! Good vegetarian options.
I woke up craving good old fashioned Jewish deli food - I knew I needed to get lunch from here. Driving home the smells almost made me cry! So perfect
The rye bagels are a delight and I highly recommend their bagel sandwiches particularly the smoked salmon and white fish salad which are quite tasty!
Maybe the best bagels in greater Portland (scratch who?)... Great service and the lox is dynamite! Iced coffee is strong, still buzzing
The best bagel I have ever tasted! Amazing combination of cheese spreads, salmon and some veggies! My fav bagel here is Nova Lox Bagel with herb cheese.. Went to this place twice in 2 days!
The best lox bagel in Maine!
I hve never been inside a bakery that didn't sell sweet pastries. But the food was excellent, and they had vegan cream cheese. Woohoo!
first time customer and was a little, scratch that, very disappointed when my sisters bagel came with no nova lox after ordering online :/
paid + six dollars for essentially nothing
I loved the shop and the atmosphere. The bagel was good but I personally found it a little too salty. Service was fast and efficient.
Everything I’ve had has been delicious and always ready pretty quickly
Most authentic bagels in greater Portland area. Anyone who thinks differently should try getting a real bagel in the Lakes Region.
Best eye bagel ever. Needs more than one phone line, people should be able to order off line and in person.
Wow ... fine traditional Jewish deli choices
Delicious bagels, sandwiches, matzo ball soup, latkes, and pickles. Great coffee too :) So glad we have this spot in Portland.
The bagels are awesome even if you don't get the Exotic special of the day. My only gripe is the size of the coffee and what they charge for it.
The Taj Special bagel is one of the greatest bagels ever assembled
Haven't been to Roses's yet, but being a New York jew it sounds great. I would suggest some additional food items such as: pumpernickel bagels, chopped liver and holiday dishes such as hamintosh for Purim. Now that would make a real Jewish Deli.
Very delicious, hipstery, expensive. Got one of our orders wrong
Bagels are good but $6.50 for one egg and cheese is ridiculous. If they come down to earth I would consider returning.
Sour pickles yes please
Matzo Ball soup yessss..homemade and heartwarming
Fantastic fresh bagels great smears
You should definitely get the pastrami nova!
Bagels and cream cheese and lox, oh my. Adorable place with delicious food. Make sure to go with friends so you can take a bite of whatever they order.
We were visiting Portland for the weekend, up from NYC, and this bagel place did not disappoint!!
Very helpful staff and exceptionaly good bagels. Had the whitefish salad and chopped liver, which were both really good.
Great food, if a little spendy. However, with gluten and dairy allergies, my options were extremely limited. I ate just some smoked salmon and a cabbage salad.
The best bagels in Portland, bar none. Always be sure to ask what their special bagel of the day is.
Great bagels, delicious fish options, a little pricey at times but worth it.
Best bagels i have ever had! Firm and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.
i love these bagels. its a good thing i dont live walking distance because I would go every day
It can be quite busy but that's an indication of how popular it is (well deserved) and not due to how they operate. They have a seating area in back if you want to dine in.
Rose's Foods for the win! This place is too legit to quit. Best bagel and latkes I've had in New England.
If you want a bagel in new England, you have to go to Rose foods.
The food was excellent, but there were patrons who crowded our group with complete disregard to other’s personal space. It was creepy AF. Watch out for those weirdos!
Best lox bagel I've ever had. Amazing food and staff.
Delicious and slightly overpriced.
BEST BAGELS IN THE STATE! No joke. And the Rose Lox is TO DIE FOR!!!
Best Pastrami sandwich I've had since moving from NY not Pastrami King quality but close. A little pricey

Great bagels and everything that goes with them. A little pricey but worth it.
Delicious! Fast, friendly, retro-ly fun! Favorite place for breakfast in Maine!☺️
Excellent bagels and smoked fish, the pickles need a little work, but perfection is so close.
Best whitefish salad bagel I’ve ever had.
Yummy! Most like NY bagels that I've had in Maine
Where I personally go to get the best bagel in Portland
Very good, but wish the eggs weren't in a patty form, also super expensive.
Friendly staff and nice atmosphere but the coffee wasn't great. The food looked nice though and definitely would go back again.
Out of pastrami at 1045 am? I guess there is demand for this kind of place. Food and service good.
Awesome bagel sandwich for lunch. Super cute deli. I recommend it
Great lox and bagels. Lox with salmon roe is outstanding.
Really good sandwiches and great cream cheese. Expensive as can be though $33 for 2 breakfast sandwiches
Awesome whitefish. Most authentic NYC deli I've experienced outside NYC.
Great bagels!! Very helpful staff. Very bright inside.
Everything you'd ever want or need in a bagel shop. Great service, highly recommend!
Easy ordering, tasty soft bagel, crunchy outside
Great deli in the spirit of 2nd ave deli etc. It's a bit expensive for the portion sizes but that's the industry these days
Great bagels and perfect for bringing out of town visitors
Best bagels in Portland! Absolutely delicious.
Delicious bagels and a good variety of sandwich selections!
Great bagel sandwiches! Really fresh ingredients!
The non-dairy options are very limited, so I could only have coffee. Hummus would be a nice option.
Amazing fish and bagels. Get the fisherman's feast and give everything a try.
Authentic NY style bagels. Always try the special!
As good as New York, get the pastrami smoked salmon
A must try breakfast if you’re in the area, or honestly even if you’re not. It’s worth traveling for.
Very good quality but prices are higher than what you would pay in Manhattan.
Fulfilling your Jewish deli dreams one perfect bagel at a time.
Great bagel, great staff, and a wonderful neighborhood joint!
Amazing hot pastrami sandwich. Large enough to split.
Lox and whitefish sandwiches were delicious! Will be back.

Ordered a dozen bagels for my office this morning. Ready within 15 minutes and they were delicious, the inside of the bagels were still warm!
I love the plain bagels and the L train sandwich. A little pricey though. The place is decorated very nicely.
Always a five star experience!
(Translation) Gil is very tasty and the fish salads of all kinds were excellent
