Reviews of Belleville
Belleville is such a delight. They truly have some of the best pastries in Portland. Everything is baked to perfection and their service is kind and welcoming! I would recommend their morning buns (10/10) and their new (special) Salty Honey Latte was amazing! Get there early because they usually sell out or switch to Pizza. That’s right. PIZZA! It’s awesome! There is street parking, only, so be prepared to parallel park. It is so worth the drive to Munjoy Hill. Enjoy!
Gorgeous pastries. Fantastic lamination, the technique is very polished and consistent. Their morning bun is fantastic and the bostok is so beautiful. Pizza looked and smelled fantastic too!
I have been to many bakeries in Europe and I can say that the croissants and especially the cardamom buns are the best I’ve had. They look amazing and taste amazing. This is one of our favorite spots in Portland. Be sure to order online the day before as they sell out quickly.
Absolutely amazing pastries! Worth the wait and everything we tried was among the best we've ever had... The pain au chocolate was precisely rolled, crispy, flaky, buttery... Yum! Do not miss the cardamom rolls if they have them!
Incredible. I came in looking for sweet pastries, but they were all sold out. The fresh homemade pizza looked so beautiful, i decided it was time for something savory. Absolutely delicious and beautiful to look at! I also appreciate the eco-friendly mindset. Highly recommend!
Google should allow six stars for this place! The chocolate almond croissant was better than the hundreds I've tried at the finest boulangeries throughout France (I live for croissants). The oat milk latte was insanely smooth... no idea how they made it so much better. The recent wave of depression overcoming other bakers in Portland now makes perfect sense. Check out the charming video history of the couple who created this bakery on their website. Yum!
World class french style pastries in Portland. Delicious coffee from Tandem roasters.
Do yourself a favor and preorder the day before to breeze in past the line and grab your goodies. 😃
The breads here are phenomenal!
I'm a huge bread connoisseur and this place had some of the best breads I've ever had. The only downside is they run out of bread pretty quickly, but I totally understand why since they get a lot of customers. All the breads are super fresh. The croissants are flaky on the outside and soft on the inside and the flavor is so rich and buttery.
If they have pizza make sure you try it, you will not be disappointed!
Recently visited Portland for the first time and noticed many people walking down the street one morning with bakery boxes. Realized they were coming from Belleville and was lucky to try some of the best pastries I’ve ever had in my life. I’m still dreaming about the almond croissant. Don’t think I’ll be able to top it.
Their almond croissants are amazing. This place is a must stop in the morning for a pastry and coffee. I also really appreciate their use of sustainable paper goods.
My God....to my knowledge, there are no better croissants/laminated pastries in existence. Most of bakeries in Europe don't get anywhere close to this level. From the choice of super fragrant delicious butter to perfect layering and baking. Ace, aces all around.
Hands down one of my favorite bakeries on the East Coast. Buttery, flaky and the berry danish & galette were just the right amount of sweet! We returned the following day at 11am to repeat, but they were sold out of everything. 😭😭 When the woman working learned we were from NY, she gifted us a few pastries, too small to sell! Absolute gem!
We could smell the bakery from the road! Best Danish my husband has enter had and absolutely the best croissants! The pastry is perfectly flaky and wonderfully buttery.
The delectable assortment of pastries made it difficult to choose just one but the blueberry danish I settled on was scrumptious and beyond amazing. The coffee (Tandem) was perfect.
Wow, this place is a hidden gem!! Went here off of a recommendation from a co-worker and I would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Great easy vibe with an awesome concrete tile backsplash! The croissants are out of this world. My wife had the chocolate while I had the ham dijon provolone, they were both amazingly flakey and buttery. Stop by here if they are open, you wont be disappointed
The best pastries AND the best pizza in Portland. Surprising but true. I’m grateful to be a regular here.
Cardamom bun and croissant are amazing. Had their pizza a few years ago, and remember it being great too.
Wow this place is a gem. You could smell the pastries as you were walking up to it. The croissants were so light and flaky I died and went to heaven. Can’t wait to go back.
This is a must-visit bakery in Portland. MUST. VISIT. The shop is on the corner of a cute little street just up from East End Beach and is very warm and inviting. We set out to try their afternoon pizza squares and were not disappointed! We will absolutely be back to buy alllll the pastries.
Delicious and unusual pastries! Breakfast was a delight. But they do not know how to properly prepare green tea.
FRESH, LIGHT, CRISPY, FLAKY and DELICIOUS! Beautiful storefront with the most taunting display of freshly baked croissants. I went down the line and got a verity of pastry's to share with the office. I smashed the egg & cheese croissant for breakfast and set aside the a chocolate & almond for later in the day.
Crossiant flakes of perfection. Best I've ever had in the US. Love their unique breakfast sandwich-style crossiant infusions. Waiting for them to open today :) Go git' sum!!
I’ve had quite a few pastries in my life, around the world... but these are just out of this world! The butternut squash galette is the best thing ever, amazing mix of sweet and savory goodness. And the cardamom bun is delicious too, super fresh and buttery with a perfect sticky crunch on the outside. Amazing!
Have only had impeccable pastries so far!!
You must be quick at this place if you want pastry be there early. If you want pizza after 11am. Or else its gone!!
Amazing, get there first thing in the AM to make sure they have what you want! Although cookies come out after 11 😉 …
Incredible Croissants, maybe the best I've ever had.
The best! From morning patties to afternoon sandwiches to evening pizza, all are tops. The baguette is hands down the best in Portland. Tandem coffee.
The croissants are as good as in Paris. More expensive but I guess thats normal
Honestly the one of the best bakeries (if not THE best) I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to a lot! Better than most bakeries I’ve been to in Paris, better than any bakery I’ve visited in NYC as well. On par or better than Tartine in SF. Go here, get the plain croissant and let it speak for itself. Just waiting for the day their baked egg croissant situation is back on the menu!! And the focaccia pizza... drool!
World-class pastries. The cardamom bun is a must. And then order everything else. The lunchtime pizza is also some of the best in Portland.
Amazing pizza and pastries!!! So glad they are open on Munjoy Hill
Really delicious croissants and other pastries. Especially recommend the blood orange, almond, brioche thing. Great, friendly service. They could use some more standing or sitting tables in the window, there's plenty of space.
Update: they have some awesome standing tables now in the window! Love it!
I see why people want to come here when they are open three days out of the week. The ham and cheese croissants were really great. They probably would of been even better warmed up but I was hungry. The deserts were tasty and worth going.
Having experienced wonderful food in Europe, including France and Italy, I knew how a perfect croissant would look and taste like. This place is a real deal! Everything I’ve tried so far has been fantastic, authentic and super delicious. I would highly recommend this place
Best croissants in Portland. Buttery, flaky, french perfection. Exactly what a pastry should be. Go early for best selection, they do sell out of a lot by 10am but whatever is left will be amazing anyway. Staff is super nice too.
Best French pastries in town. Serving Tandem Coffee, hot or iced. Pizza and sandwich offerings during lunchtime hours. Pizza nights Thursday-Saturday. Open, bright dining area with outdoor seats in the warmer months. Highly recommend!
Best croissants in Portland
A beautiful spread of puff pastries and croissants, the best of which was the pear danish, which was fresh, crispy, and not overly sweet. The interior was beautifully done with pressed metal work, geometric tiles with a similar sensibility and spot on light fixtures. Light and airy, a nice place for a coffee with a friend.
Everything we ate here was incredible! The pizza is special.
Truly a gem on Munjoy Hill. Pastries are just fantabulous and the pizza is amazing. During my last visit I had the fig, onion and rosemary pizza. It was a great combination of sweet and savory and the crust is just perfect. A bright, cheery atmosphere and great staff top off a great experience.
Overall, I consider this establishment a definite welcome, upscale addition to our wonderful Munjoy Hill neighborhood.
It's been open for some time and has gained a great reputation. The owners are very nice, accommodating and offer excellent product... except for the recent purchase of an almond croissant!
I would have given five stars, but only four due to disappointment. I was wondering why it was covered in an over-abundance of slivered almonds, waaaaaaay too much powdered sugar.
I had it to go, brought it home to have with coffee, and was shocked!
The croissant was overdone, burnt on the ends, was tough and excessively chewy. The inside was a tad dry, with only enough almond paste on one side. Wow... NOW I know why it was laden with the aforementioned toppings... to disguise the damage.
Worst of all, you don't sell it, if it's not up to standard... and camouflage it to the unsuspecting. That's a bad practice, and palming it off that way... destroyed the facade of Hauté cuisine.
Now, I will admit to being fussy about baked goods and food in general... sometimes a bit too much. Why you ask? BECAUSE, I'm a classically trained chef and baker... and have been a pastry chef for a considerable amount of time.
I understand that mistakes happen, and it can be costly... but to sell burnt goods as if they are perfection is ridiculous. I would have taken the said almond croissants, trimmed the burnt parts, cut them up and created a wonderful almond-croissant bread pudding, topped with an almond creme drizzled with chocolate... either cut into squares or made as individual puddings in medium sized ramekins... cuts down on waste and and helps profitability... duh!!
I'm still happy they are here... will update to five stars..., hoping they maintain high standards. It would be nice if the owners contact me, replace the croissant and chat over a cup of coffee... otherwise, I wish them luck and success!!!🍮🍰🍕😉
Good food,. Not much choice of pastries by lunch time
If you have time to visit only one place in portland, this the place that I would recommend.
The pastries are perfect balance of flavour and sweetness ,the croissants are buttery and fluffy and The Gallete are what heaven food I imagine taste like.
The salad was really good. I also had a slice with garlic and tomato that wasn't heated hot enough. It was all right, but there's a lot of competition for great pizza. I don't think you can do better than bonobo and it's closer to home. As I said, the salad was very fresh and nice and I would get it again. Thank you
This is an amazing bakery. We bought a lovely, crisp baguette. The croissant was the best I've ever eaten...anywhere. Please head up Congress St and seek this place out.
Best chocolate chip cookie. Excellent pizza
Pre ordering is recommended - they run out often. Plain croissant is better than chocolate. Special danishes are excellent.
A part of my life has always been missing since tasting authentic, delicious croissants. Fortunately, I happened upon Belleville yesterday. Now I can say that hole is filled. Namely by delicious croissants!
I'll be dreaming about the cruffin we got forever. Made my husband very mad I only gave him a small bite. All the other pastries we got were tasty too but wish the pain au chocolat had more chocolate in it.
Puff pastries are fantastic. It’s definitely a “try one of everything” kind of place. Cute spot to linger for a coffee. Great spot to ingest lots of buttery laminated pastries!
We’re French and we can tell you that’s exactly how croissants taste like in France! Authentic, buttery pastries, the staff is very friendly.
Wonderful little bakery with lovely breakfast croissants, sweet pastries and pizza at lunchtime. Highly recommend the cardamom buns which are just superb.
Very good French morning pastries. Coffee as well. Eat in if you wish. Friendly euro look and feel. Only problem is deciding which ones to buy.
THIS is how a croissant should sound when you bite into it. After living in France and working as a pastry chef for several years, it's music to my ears. Belleville nails it. So glad they're here!
Amazing pastries! Friendly staff
Super tasty. I wish they had more pork-free options and more options in general. The cardamom pastry is delicious but they rarely have it.
We are visiting from Florida and we are staying very close. So glad we got to try their lemon curd and chocolate croissant. So delicious with a cup of coffee. ❤️
Small quaint bakery with a nice simple Dutch door to order through for these tough times. Croissants were delicious!
East End gem serving French croissants in the morning and Italian pizza al taglio at midday. Friendly neighborhood atmosphere and amazing breads!
Amazing laminated pastries!!! A cruffin was a particular delight
This newcomer has started strong! Best croissants in Portland by a remarkable margin. Space is cute and fits the neighborhood well.
Nice place, comfortable seating. Need to get there earlier for greater back goods selection. Drip coffees only, but thinking about adding espresso coffees on the future.
Best pizza I have ever had! Great small neighborhood café with excellent French style pastries.
This is the best croissant I had in the USA, and I had Tartine croissants in San Francisco. My favorite place in Portland.
Everything I've had here is incredible. I love the pastries! It's dangerous living so close! ;)
As good as the best places in Paris or Montreal.
The pastries are amazing. They were so beautiful that I almost felt bad biting into them. Almost
Best pastry in Portland
Amazing place for authentic croissants and other gourmet baked treats.
I'm not a man that typically likes sweet things, but these guys, they're the exception! They got some cute neighborhood digs which I, well, dig!
Nice local bakery, very good croissants.
Small interior
Double delights on Munjoy Hill. Parisian Croissant and Roman-style pizza perfection
Everything here is wonderful, food, service, space, location. I especially love the PIZZA AL TAGLIO. Pretty amazing!
Best French Pastries and Roman Pizza Al taglio on the East Coast.
Wonderful pastries, great service.
You know it’s going to be a good time when you walk in and the smell of fresh croissant hits your face.
Wonderful quality, great service, great location.
Pitch-perfect croissants and the noontime pizza is delectable.
Great people, great quality food, and welcoming attitude in the time of pandemic.
Delicious pastries and pizzas. Really, really good!

Outstanding baked goods
Tastes as good as it looks
Pastries are delicious
Flakey, buttery perfection.
Fantastic pastries.
Very Good!
Wonderful!
This is my favorite bakery. Their croissants are so good, it makes croissants baked elsewhere feel like a scam.
SO. FREAKING. DELICIOUS!
Best pastries in Portland, in Maine, probably in North America.
