Reviews of Federal Donuts Center City

It's a must stop for me when I'm in Philadelphia!
The freshly made warm doughnuts are so fluffy and the sugar coating goes so well with them!
I always order the cinnamon sugar and cookies and cream, but on this day the staff gave me an extra strawberry lavender! It has become my favorite!!
Thank you so much, kind staff!
Arwa AlBuraikan
Forget about the donuts when you come here and get their crispy chicken sandwich combo with zataar fries. This is also the best location i tried in philly for dining in. Seats are plenty and comfortable. It closes earlier than some of their other locations though so keep that in mind before making plans.
David Berkowitz
These doughnuts are among the best I ever had. I went for the vanilla potato chip and the classic chocolate cake and it was all about as good as it gets.
YingYing Xiong
Listen!Everyone must order Buttermilk Ranch chicken.the chicken is extra tasty and made fresh,Their chicken sandwich is also incredibly yummy. I highly recommend eating here!
Brian Chee
Donuts were awesome! Freshly cooked and delicious! We ordered classic sugar cinnamon and strawberry lavender donuts. The sugar cinnamon donut is pretty delicious. But, strawberry lavender donut was so so.. I couldn’t taste the lavender at all. I am not big cake base donut.
The staffs were super friendly and nice. The service was pretty fast and the place is pretty clean.
Alexander Weisberger
I actually came here a long time ago (either here or the other location) when I was visiting Philly with my Dad and had a good experience. Recently moved to Philly so I decided to drop by today to pick up a half dozen and these donuts are phenomenal. Probably the best I've ever had. Perfect flavor, texture, and size.
Lee Stephens (Piper)
The donuts were soft and delicious, perfectly filling. They were even soft a day later! The hot chocolate I got was exactly the right temperature and my friend loved the Vietnamese Coffee (I had a sip and it was also delicious) honestly the best breakfast decision we could have made
Torian Stinnette
We were excited to try these donuts. Ordered the classics to be on the safe side with flavors. I agree with the other reviewers. The donut is fresh and light, not heavy. Perfect texture. The issue we had with the classic glazed [both vanilla and chocolate] was the flavors and sweetness. I could barely taste the vanilla glaze and the donut itself lacked sweetness. It was like eating a perfectly textured, fresh bland donut. The glaze was not sweet enough to add flavor. The chocolate donut with vanilla glaze was better. The chocolate of the donut was apparent but still not strong enough. Donuts are bad for diets but when you eat one you want the sweetness. I will try their hot and fresh or fancy donuts next time as they are different flavors than the classics. Not completely disappointed but it could be better.
Lindsay Conlisk
Fries killer good. Rooster sauce killer good. Chicken sandwich killer good. Personally I think the American cheese it weird but it’s still dynamite good. It’s pricey and not all of the donuts are good, but you can’t go wrong ordering one of the freshly-fried and sugared donuts.
James Cook
There donuts always good. I like the art work on the wall which is very fabulous job 😀 …
Nathan Williams
If you only try 1 donut, get the cinnamon brown sugar donut.
I tried all 3 hot donuts. They were made to order, light and airy. Cinnamon brown sugar was very good and I will get it again. Cookies & Cream and Strawberry Lavender were… odd? I won’t get those again.
Brett Wiley
Best donuts, hands down. The recipe is fantastic, it's not about the toppings here. Whilst the toppings are incredible, the actual cake is amazing. Soo moist and delicious, will blow any donut you've had out of the water. It's one of those places that you must stop at whenever your in the city. Even a two day old Federal donut is 1000% better then a Dunkin. Not that dunkin even has a good donut anymore.
LeWayne Ballard
Very cozy and quaint with about 10-15 small chairs inside and few tables on the street. Came after lunch, so wasn't crowded. Was immediately greeted and the menu was straightforward. Several donuts were on display from the hot fresh to the fancy ones.
Ordered a fried chicken sandwich and a cinnamon brown sugar donut. Donut came out hot and fresh while I was waiting for my chicken sandwich. Yes, ate my dessert before my dinner. Donut was extremely fresh and soft. Had perfect amount of brown sugar and cinnamon. Should've ordered one for appetizer and another for dessert. Was of average size so could eat a few.
Chicken sandwich was equally as good. Was nice thick piece of chicken breast. I was initially skeptical of the American cheese, but it went well. The combination of the ranch seasoning and spicy rooster sauce was perfect. Was right amount of sauce without it oozing out and being messy. Potato roll was very soft and complimented the other flavors. Overall size was between a slider and an average burger.
Service was very prompt and courteous. I may order some donuts for my flight back home. I recommend this place for both the chicken and the donuts. Never seen a place that has this combination of foods, but they do both equally as well.
Matt Jones
Went on a Sunday morning around 11am and the line was long but it moved quickly. The donuts were very creative flavors and the strawberry lavender flavor was delicious freshly made and the chicken sandwich was also good. I was also surprised at the reasonable prices in the city. The coffee, however, was terrible - so bad that it spoiled an otherwise 5-star experience.
David Downey
I had caught wind of this place before visiting Philadelphia, and going out of my way to make a stop was well worth it. I was there too early for fried chicken (will definitely try next time though), so I got two donuts. The first was the Cinnamon Oatmeal donut. It was sweet but hearty, while retaining its soft and gentle texture. It was great to have with my coffee. The other one I tried was the Blueberry Pancake one and it was amazing. It was sweeter than the other but still not overdone, making for a donut like no other!
Mark LoGiurato
A great place to get fresh donuts while in Philly! The flavors are amazing! They also make donuts fresh to order so you get to eat them hot! The staff is terrific and the place is kind of hip too! A bonus is that they make incredible fried chicken! A must ry when in the area!
Jason C
They make a decent chicken sandwich - not as good as chik fil a, but still good. I also like their donuts especially the salted chocolate. Their twice fried chicken may not be for everybody, but it is still worth a try. Seating is limited so this is a great takeout spot for lunch time.
Julianne Lilholt
Their donuts were pretty good, but I expected them to better due to all the hype I had heard about this place. These seemed more like cake donuts than yeast risen donuts, which I personally don't prefer as much. The warm cookies and cream donut was good especially since it was fried right there, but I would have thought there would have also been some sort of cream filling or something to make it more like cookies and cream. Not bad though... Just not as amazing as I would have expected.
Sanjana Balakrishna
I LOVE their donuts. It's definitely worth the hype. They have really good flavors. Do not miss strawberry lavender donut(it's fresh and hot) and Mississippi mud(this one - OH MY GOD!!). It's so soft, it is like it's going to fall apart but doesn't. It's my favorite donut place till date. There's not lot of seating here, so plan accordingly.
George Forgan-Smith
Without a doubt the crispiest, tastiest fried chicken I’ve ever bitten in to. The crunch was like in 3D surround sound! Inventive flavors and seasonings too. Couldn’t go past some doughnuts too, real fresh, real hot. I don’t mind saying that all that fried food gave me some wicked heartburn after, but it was totally worth it!
Tom Moore
Simply delicious. Donuts, fried chicken, drinks. When we went they had 3 flavors of donuts. We tried strawberry lavender and cookies n cream. The donuts are made fresh to order; you watch them drop into the oil right in front of your face. Melt in your mouth. Heavenly.
Diana Vitela
There was a big hype about eating here but I was a little bummed. The chicken was waaay to salty and some of it didn’t look appealing. As for the doughnut that’s a different story but of course it is a doughnut place. It lived up to its reputation. The doughnuts were fluffy, nice and airy. Definitely will return for doughnuts not so much for chicken.
Jon Lacy
Over the counter fried chicken and donuts. I didn’t even want a donut and then I tasted the cinnamon brown sugar donut and it was delicious, light fluffy freshness. Chx sand was recommended and was a really good lunch. Hip vibe good music vibrant atmosphere.
Morgan
My husband and I are not in agreement about the goodness of this place. He likes a lighter donut, while I think a proper donut is better “cakey,” and with standout flavors. If you’re like me, you will love this place; if not, you’ll be less enthusiastic about it! The coffee was good, too- drank it black, so there was no hiding a bad roast. Pictured is the lemon pistachio.. my favorite! (Not pictured- the three others we ate together. Ha.)
Jason O'Grady
Federal donuts is on my short “must stop” list when I visit Philly. The hot donuts are amazing (try the strawberry) but my favorite item – by far – is the breaded chicken sandwich. It’s amazing and puts Chick-Fil-A to shame. Mmm... 🐓🍩 …
Johadane Pierre
Friendly staff. Delicious warm donuts. Off street metered parking available in the surroundings but not in front of the restaurant. Cash and cards are acceptable as forms of payment. If you're in the Philly area, you must try it. Bon appétit!!!
Lissette Lau
Best donut place in America! First, the employees are super friendly. Second the food is just amazing. The donuts are freshly made and melt in your mouth. I also ordered the chicken sandwich and it was really tasty. Not greasy at all. I wish I could eat here every day.
Taylor Overos
Best donut I’ve ever had - luscious and gourmet options. Solid basic options as well if you just want a classic donut.
Deepanshu Rao
Very delicious hot and fresh donuts and coffee!!
Andrew “Andy” Calhoun
I like their new (not too far away) accommodations better than the old place - it's bright and new. The donuts are very good especially when they're fresh but I still think they're overpriced, in fact I think they raised their prices. A half dozen fresh donuts and three fancy donuts set me back $18. I mean I get it's not a chain and it's local and that's all well and good but they are just good donuts.
Joy St. Louis
Parking is terrible but the doughnuts are awesome. As was the service.
Blake Niva
I had the Lavender, Raspberry and Cinnamon donut. They Cinnamon and Lavender we're made fresh and were delicious. Very filling. I would recommend this to anyone who likes donuts.
Patti Smith
Quick and easy place to go four amazing donuts, a chicken sandwich, or some fried chicken! They have their good old standby donuts with your delicious. But there are also many exciting specialty Donuts that change from time to time on the menu. There is always something amazing and delicious available at Federal Donuts!
Talia E
Twist on the classic chicken and waffles BUT with a side of delicious donut pairing.
Since the chicken and most donuts are Made to order, the fried chicken depending on the dry or wet rub/flavoring ya decided to get, can be a hit or a miss. So choose wisely.
Chukwudi E.
What donuts dream of becoming. Haven't tried all their chicken flavors, but they were all great! Spent the whole summer of 2014 binging for myself and the office. Keep it up guys!
Update: I personally prefer the fresh doughnuts, but they taste better when they are still warm which sucks because when I get home they are a bit cold. Still a B+ doughnut even then.
Chicken is pretty solid on taste and freshness. Definitely binge worthy all around. 👌
Christina S. Munshi
Amazing. Best fried chicken ever! It comes out hot and fresh. Their donuts are pretty amazing too and they also come out fresh every time.
Liselle M.
Friendly staff. She recommended a breakfast sandwich that wasn’t on the menu but was KILLER. The eggs were pillowy and the bacon was *crispy*. If you’re not feeling like having amazing donuts then this is a great alternative!
Katy B
Delicious! Some of the best fried chicken I've had in a long time. The skin was very crunchy and the chicken was nice and juicy. I opted for the curry coconut flavor which had a nice level of heat that paired nicely against the sweetest of the honey donut. Would go again for the chicken and donuts!
Amber Shishido
Great first experience! Both the chicken and donuts were amazing, but will probably edit my order next time!
Daniel Clark
Flavors, crispness, quality, color, consistency. All reasons why a piece of chicken and a warm donut can make my day by visiting federal donuts. The chicken will literally burn your mouth if you try to eat it within the first minutes of it being placed in front of you. And that is something to delight in. The fried chicken has many flavors mixing various levels of sweet, spice, and tangy notes. Whichever you choose(if any) it will most likely be the best fried chicken you've had. It is fried to golden perfection and is supplemented by a fresh donut. I am guilty of always going for the donut first. The bonus donut is great but for the whole picture pick out the most colorful donut in their "fancy" selection. The inside is fairly small but is still worth visiting to watch the donuts being made. The chicken Sammy is also straight bangers even though the American cheese and bun throw me off a bit they're the experts just eat it
Levone Cannady
Best donuts in the city! Freshly made donuts and coffee to start your morning or brighten up your day! And those chicken sandwiches are pretty good!

~Preface~
Narrator: On the 16th of June, Joe (protagonist) embarked on a journey to Federal Donuts after reading novels of reviews that conveyed how "amazing" this establishment was.. little did he know what was In store for him...
Chapter 1- Don't Judge a Book By its Cover
Narrator: Joe arrived at his destination approximately at 11:30, he peered up at the charming red, white,& blue storefront, & said to himself, "I hope this isn't another industrial rustic décor." Upon entrance, Joe immediately noticed a huge air duct running right over the kitchen; this paired with the concaved spider webbed ceiling, dim industrial lighting, & dirty floor made him skeptical of the cleanliness. The motif Joe would use to describe this later on to his friends would be a "run-down elementary school hostel."
Chapter 2- Pretty On The Outside...Raw On The Inside
Narrator: Approaching the front desk counter, Joe explained that he was a virgin federal donuts customer, & asked what the cashier recommended for lunch. The delightful girl replied, "Our fried chicken sandwich is to die-for..." Being somewhat tight on time he went ahead & ordered the recommendation.
Along the right of the wall Joe spotted a bench with an elementary school desk-top on each seat. He decided to sit & take in the ambience of the Federal Donuts. At this point in time he noticed that it didn't even smell of donuts, & more importantly he had forgotten to order one! Roughly 7 minutes passed, & the girl called Joes name for his order; he popped out of his desk-seat like a giddy school boy as if the recess bell had just rung.
Fortunately a table just opened up outside. Joe sat down & began to unbind the wrapping; what unveiled itself was a beautiful sandwich encompassed with a boneless chicken breast, buttermilk ranch seasoning, American cheese, dill pickle slices, & a spicy rooster sauce on a Martin's potato roll.
The first bite...flavorful, crunchy, & messy, as the sauce ran into the thick rugged manbeard of Joe; he would need to use his napkin every bite...and then it happened.. a bite into the middle revealed a rawness of the chicken..everything when down hill from there... the breading sliding off the poultry, & the bun disintegrating into a flat tasteless nothingness as Joe tried to nibble around the raw center..it was a lost cause.
After assessing this establishment Joe can equivocally say his chicken sandwich was unsatisfactory, but would be open to revisiting for a sufficiently cooked sandwich, a better bun to hold the ingredients, & at least a side donut for the price of $7.29 (after tax)..
Chapter 3- A Picture Is Not Always Worth a 1000 Words
Joe went to the website to find out what was exactly on their chicken sandwich.. the landing page was visually captivating, but realized once again....Don't judge a "book" by its cover... Joe would like to note to the website developer: it does not allow the visitor to expand the menu tab on the desktop version (extremely frustrating when the tab keeps dropping back down). After having to go on the mobile website to access the menu, Joe found what he was looking for, but noticed basic layout & text looked worse than a free Wix website.
The Don does not yet approve of this establishment & may be back~

Donuts, fried chicken, and coffee. What else is there to say? I will mention that if you're used to Dunkin or any of the other big brands with their large variety of flavors in large quantities this is not the place to expect the same. The special flavored donuts of the day sell out quick and then you're only left to choose from 3 flavors from their made to order section. Those are still good as well however you'll want to get there early to try at least one of the special flavors trust me. And a life tip, don't skip out on the chicken. I was not expecting it to be as good if not better than your standard fried chicken joint. Get the two piece with the soy garlic glaze. You're welcome!
Chris “Topher” Sympson
We we so excited to try this place from rave reviews about the chicken and donuts. Unfortunately maybe we just got unlucky with the chicken sandwich since it was a little overdone and only enough chicken to cover half of the bun :(. I can definitely see that this could be an amazing sandwich maybe on another try..
I will say, however, the donuts were AMAZING and the coffee was great too! Still worth the trip!
John Van Riper
Came here because I heard they had some good fresh and hot cake donuts. I wasn’t disappointed. This seemed to be a stop for several locals and there wasn’t a ton of space to sit inside, but the fresh donuts were delicious. The service was very friendly and they were patient while we ordered. Thank you, look forward to return visits!
Ann L
The donuts weren't as amazing as I had hope they were going to turn out. They do taste good, when it's hot and freshly made. Takes minutes for them to make. Strawberry Lavender was decent, I also ordered cookies and cream...unless the lady cook shook the wrong powder, it tasted awfully a lot like cinnamon/brown sugar... disappointed. If I was to return, maybe I'd try their chicken, wouldn't go back for the fresh hot donuts, cool concept tho!
Jessica Tracey
Found this place on Google Maps, a few blocks from my hotel. Amazing donuts. Not the traditional flavors but definitely ones that are memorable! I like donuts that have cinnamon sugar and the granular textures. The cinnamon brown sugar was great and one of them more familiar tastes. I tried the strawberry lavender to get outside of my comfort zone and it was great. The blueberry pancake was my favorite. I was expecting the blueberry flavor to be in the donut but it was in the glaze. A very pungent and tart blueberry glaze that was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place
Juan David Figueroa
Some say NY donuts are the best, but after the disappearance of Underwest donuts in NY, there has been no cake donut to replace it. Federal Donuts can easily fill that space, if only they’d move to NY.. one can be dream.
Her
The donuts were hot and freshly made. They were so good. Nice and soft just the right amount of sweet.
Kevin “Wing King” Schmidt
I was in town and this place came recommended for a good quick breakfast.
The donut was amazing! I got a coffee cake donut, it was warm, flavorful, and quite moist!
Sadly, I dropped a star off because the coffee was horrible. It tasted like they burnt some coffee, then made another batch of coffee in the same pot without cleaning out the burnt coffee.
Rby G
Every donut here is delicious, absolutely worth the stop if you're in Philly. Seating in this small space was fun, luckily we came on an early Saturday morning so it wasn't too crowded. My friend had a savory sandwich from them and said she enjoyed it a lot.
Kurt Fedde
Awesome donuts! We got a half-dozen of the fancy ones, one of each kind they had, and they were amazing! The donuts themselves are soft and cakey, and the frostings were great. Fun toppings and flavors!
Noelle Kelly (singerinkitchen)
This is the second time I have come here and I wish I could stay longer and see the ambience. It's a small place and gets crowded but as a mom of three young girls we made it happen today. I had a stroller which did not much get in the way. The girls chose their donuts and I got waters but there really was no space to sit so we went to the Shops at Liberty Place to sit. Their donuts are great and fancy. I decided to order half a dozen of their fanciest donuts because I would save 0.50 for each. They were fresh and the girls loved them as did I.
Dale Plotzki
SLAMMIN' #donut spot. Well-curated selection of fresh donuts. Delicious coffee; the best I had in Philly. A cheery, helpful and efficient staff! Do not miss this spot! 🍩🍩🍩 …
Oi Yin Lo
I had to see if the fried chicken sandwich lived up to the hype. The potato bun was a nice touch but the chicken was on the dry and tough side, despite the attempts to soften it with pickles and the house sauce.
Lily Le-Sheppard
My husband brought home donuts from FD and it was delicious. Then he told me if I had eaten it from the shop while it was hot and freshly made....my mind would be blown. The next chance we were able to go into Philly, we went. I kid you not, the donuts are delicious! We had cookies and cream, strawberry cheesecake, yum. Also, surprise, they also have fried chicken. Strange? I know! But totally do it. They have different glazes that my goal now is to try each once in every visit.
Mitchell Maybray
Food was great, Staff was awesome, really clean. Location was easy to get to from the Market Frankfort line, would definitely eat there again.
Kevin Medansky
This is a great spot for delicious donuts!! Cannot emphasize enough how kind and caring Mara is. She's a wonderful host who makes everyone feel right at home. Definitely want to come back, especially if she's still there. 100% whatever she's making, she deserves double!!!
Mrs. Smith
I finally tried this place! It was delicious!! I visited a newer location at the Whole foods Market near the Parkway. The chicken is as good as I hoped-crispy, flavorful and all together satisfying. Definitely recommend!
demetrius lettley
Baby Jesus himself must have created this flavorful menu. The chicken sandwich is simply heavenly and the strawberry lavender donut should be considered a threat to national security.
la vie est belle
Best donuts, you must try the key lime and the strawberry-lavender and they have done a good job with their pumpkin donuts.
Ashley Barr
Fresh and warm donuts, friendly people, and fast service. They don't start serving fried chicken until 11, so we sadly missed that. The donuts alone are worth the visit though.
Kate Kempf
Incredible! Brown sugar hot and fresh donuts are the best donuts in the city... World?
Fried chicken sandwich... Incredible also.
They told me last year it's a temp location which is sad cus I love it! This particular location is super cool and feels like you're in on a secret. Love the checkers.
Ordering/maps listing issue: there's no option to order *pickup* from this location online- you gotta call. Nbd!
Sandra Djuric
Nice place, but only 6 different types of icing for donuts. Donuts with blueberries frosting were extraordinary.
Laura N
Chicken sandwich is tasty. Yummy cake donuts, too!
Joanna Lim
Don't stop at the donuts! Even though they are deliciously amazing, persist and also order the fried chicken! It is all good. No regrets.
K Krussel
Hadn’t been in a while but wanted a stop to treat myself between two medical appointments I had at different Penn buildings. I didn’t really understand the menu headlines and that the “fancy” would not be hot. I made it pretty clear I was new to the menu and the cashier didn’t offer any explanation and also didn’t ask how I wanted my coffee, which was absolutely scalding. Was disappointed about half and half packets as opposed to a regular thermos of half & half
to cool the coffee. No music playing. Another barista came in and treated the next customers in a much more friendly way. Just sort of felt out of place/ like I was at a weird bus station or something
Ashley
Delicious donuts! Way better than Dunkin’ Donuts. Yes, I said what I said and I stand by that.
Michelle “ShilohLauren” Racicot
if their reputation wasn't a good enough reason to try the donuts the staff is just amazing so friendly, helpful, and efficient. drove from wilmington DE to get a taste and i loved the breakfast Sandwich and the prices. can not wait to go back!!
Jill Waller
I would call this a donut joint. Small place with made to order donuts and fried chicken. Donuts were soft, warm and sugary good. I didn't get to try the chicken, so I need to go back.
Loretta Lambright Redrick
In my opinion a doughnut should be eaten fresh out of the fryer and piping hot. This is what you’ll get at federal donuts. Dunkin doesn’t even come close. If you’re in philly and you pass this place on a brisk morning, be sure to grab a cup of coffee and a hot donut!
Alex Benton
Great donuts, great chicken (especially the ginger soy), great customer service
Lauren Barbella
always a must when in Philly! never had the chicken but the donuts are to die for. Strawberry lavender is a favorite but you can’t go wrong with any of the made to order!
Simon Hauger
These donuts are AMAZING. I've been enjoying them for years. I just checked out a newer location on the mainline. You can't go wrong but if you want my suggest try the chocolate toffee or the old fashioned. La Colombe coffee too? Dang, life doesn't get much better. The staff are always helpful to top it off. Love this place!
Karim Hafazalla
Tried the fried chicken wings, pomegranate tahini doughnut, sweet potato pie doughnut, and fresh made plain doughnut. This place is worth the hype. Wings were massive and came with a chili garlic glaze. While the fried chicken is good, the doughnuts were especially memorable. Unique flavor combinations at very reasonable prices. Definitely check it out if you're craving something more than your run of the mill Dunkin doughnut. Only docking a star because I think it is overpriced.
Joseph Mills
Such a great experience awesome hot donuts. We actually dropped our box in a puddle of water and had to back for a second order. Thank you for a great experience!
Sixto Herrera
The cookies and cream donut is like none other, I was amazed of how good it was. A must try for sure.
John Michael Schert
Best old fashioned cake donut in Philly. I plan to go back for the fried chicken.
Billy Smerka Jr.
Legitimately the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. It overshadows a very stellar donut.
Antoinette Taylor
Great donuts. Delicious just enough sweetness and fresh warm love. Friendly staff and reasonable prices.
Cassandra Krill
Some of the best donuts I've had and the flavors are always fun and add to the tastiness! Definitely have to try
Paulo Cumino
The donuts are amazing but chicken sandwich is to small.
Yuri
I fell in love with this place! Friendly staffs and amazing donuts. It was my first visit to this shop and will definitely come back!
Garrett Yu
Great place to go to get a cheap coffee and a delicious donut. You're get in and out quickly and it's a cozy little atmosphere.
Leah Chen
The donuts here are awesome; I am a big fan. However, the service hasn't been stellar at this place. They're often out of the donuts that I ask for. Also, packaging needs a little help - one bag of donuts were thrown in without a lot of care and the icing smeared everywhere. It was a pretty ugly mess for a $3 donut. Still, tasted amazing.
Samantha Yuan
Hot and fresh - cookie and cream
It’s sooooo soft and kinda melts in your mouth, one of the best donuts I’ve had!!!
David Kim
Amazing experience with very good donuts. We came in 20 minutes before closing and the staff was still willing to make three dozen donuts hot and fresh. Donuts tasted amazing. Got dozen each of brown sugar cinnamon, strawberry lavender, cookies & cream. I liked the brown sugar cinnamon the best but they were all delicious. Best is to eat immediately but still tasted delicious the next day as well.
Frank Clarkson
Donuts and fried chicken! Enough said...loved the lemon bar cheesecake donut.
Altinay Cortes
Crunchy, juicy and flavorful chicken complimented by a changing variety of delicious cake style donuts. Love this place!
Jana Borer
The fresh donuts were so light and fluffy. Served just the way donuts were meant to be, eaten right out of the fryer. The strawberry and lavender flavor was really unique and my personal favorite out of the fresh flavors. We also had the fried chicken with the coconut curry dry seasoning. Equally tasty and extra crispy. Overall everything was very yummy!
Eri Gold
Wow, I’ll be honest, it’s been a long time since I’ve been so taken by something I’ve eaten that before I finish my donut, I come to leave a review. I am *not* a donut person. I never liked the texture. I always thought cake donuts were too dry and regular donuts were too doughy. But I’ve been really making an effort to eat at new places, and when I saw on Instagram a new donut (it was like apple caramel cheesecake, something like that) I decided to give it a try. I walked in, and this place is so cute. It’s super simple and definitely has the signature stamp of any Solomonov place in town, aesthetically. The staff was super friendly and chill. I ordered my donut and decided to also try the Vietnamese iced coffee. I practically scoffed walking past the Starbucks on 16th street at all the people inside who, no matter what they ordered, I’m confident, weren’t having a coffee as delicious as mine! Y’all are going to know me from this review cause I’ll be back in for that coffee all the time. Plus, most importantly—the donut! I am so impressed. The texture is so pleasant! The filling and frosting were super tasty. Definitely very sweet, but really flavorful. This is the longest review for a donut possibly ever online but I guess the coffee got me caffeinated to write 😅 Anyway, final point: the hype and the success of Fednuts makes total sense after one bite/sip. 😁

All orders take an extremely long time. And their “system” often doesn’t work - so look forward to your order being misplaced.
Christine Donlon
It's a nice hot donut. Good flavor, but not the best I have ever had. I had the strawberry lavender donut. I felt that the strawberry really dominated the flavors. The place was packed but the line moved smoothly and service was friendly. I won't turn them down in the future, but I am not making a special trip either.
Brendan Davis
Can’t go wrong with a breakfast sandwich, coffee and a cinnamon donut!
Ray Jia
I had cinnamon brown sugar donut here. It was amazing!
Guy Hartstein
Easily the best donuts I’ve ever had. The pink ones are the best, but you can’t go wrong with the classic. I am a huge Solomanov fan, and this place meets my expectations easily. The donuts are served super fresh; you eat them 30 seconds after they are fried! Definitely recommend.
Arturo Ruiz Jr
This place is delicious. Great donuts and chicken products. The staff is awesome! I would give it a 5 if you guys prepped more wings to last the whole day. Struck out twice in a row in the afternoon.
Celeste Rolon
While they lack variety (They only offer 3 flavors of donuts and on the day we went they only had 1). the donuts are crazy good. Soft texture, nice size, and they coat it in enough cinnamon and sugar that it covers the entire donut.
Jennifer Singh
A favorite! There is a delicate crispness on the outside of a fresh donut that I never experienced until I discovered Federal Donuts. Huzzah!
The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy on the inside and crispy without excessive grease on the outside. As enjoyable as it was, the DONUTS are my reason for coming here.
They have these nifty desk-sort of tables mounted to a bench, a vibe that is informal and just surprising enough to make ya want to sit down and experience it. Watch your food get cooked from that seat.
ED
Overall really good donuts. The fried chicken was also good, wish they had some ranch to dip the chicken into, not a big deal though. The donuts are the main attraction here and so worth coming here to try them. They have about ten different flavors, that are made fresh when you order them. My only complaint is the girl behind the counter could be a bit nicer.
Tracey Holland
The different variety of donuts are made with their own special batters, so you don't get that generic donut taste. The donuts taste like cake, very rich and moist. I heard the chicken is delicious but I haven't tasted it yet. When I do come here, I usually stick to the one in south Philly, but they sell out of items by 3pm, their other locations stay open later. Their donuts are truly sinful, so I go there once or twice a month. There is a Federal Donuts in walking distance from my house, I steer clear, or I will be as big as a house!
Rachelle Murray Richards
I love donuts and the chicken. I don't go as often as my tastebuds would like so I was especially happy to order my favorite lavender donut. Got home only to find that I had cinnamon sugar donuts instead. They were very good but this is the second time I had a wrong order when it was busy, will be checking before I leave in the future. When the order is right, will give 5 stars.
Daniel Antoniazzi
When I am in Philly I always make this a stop, it's non-negotiable. The donuts are amazing and there's flavors to suit everyone's desire. You won't regret it.
Red Rat Media
OH MY DONUTS AND CHICKEN 🍩🍗 First of all their donuts are made to order and perfectly golden and seasoned with their donuts of the day. By far their strawberry and lavender was the best. When you order their fried chicken it comes with a delicious honey donut that blew my mind it was so good. Love this place! …
Chas
Great chicken and donuts. I had the honey ginger glazed chicken and it was fantastic. Not too gooey but you will need the wet wipes they provide. The honey donut comes with it and is a perfect pairing. Nice people, good prices. Can’t go wrong for a quick lunch.
Micah Bartley
The line was not too long and the donuts were by far the best donuts I have ever had. I got the Yule Log and Frost the Donut as well as a fresh brown sugar cinnamon and Milk and Cookies for my wife. They were so rich and so delicious.
E L
Out of the many donuts I have eaten, these are by far the best. The hot ones are my favorite, so I always get one of them, but if there is an interesting sounding fancy or donut or two I will certainly grab them too. And their chicken sandwich is damn tasty.
Alexandra
Their donuts and chicken sandwich's are the bomb! So delicious! I would go here quite often on my lunch break. Minus one star because they run out of their specialty donuts quite often. I don't understand that process. I would assume you could prepare ahead of time or get some sort of game plan because it happens quite often and early in the day. Other than that this place is amazing.
Michael Orr
Absolutely amazing donuts. Very simple donuts without all the fanfare of some other places but they offer enough of a twist to make it worth the visit. Do yourself a favor and try one of the 6 ‘fancy’ donuts that have extra frosting or flavors and also one of the 3 hot and fresh kinds that are fried in front of you and doused in flavored sugar and powder. Nothing like eating a hot donut just a minute out of the fryer! Affordable too!
Brian Scarpiniti
The chicken sandwiches were amazing and both donuts I tried between my wife and I were also amazing. The staff was friendly. I highly recommend this place.
Yearim Leslie Yi
Adorable, little donut place. Must try out freshly fried donuts!!!
Jamie M
I am not one that normally goes for cake donuts. This place has the most mouthwatering ones though when they are hot and fresh though. I can't comment on how the donuts taste after cooking down because they never last that long. The chicken sandwich is so delicious as well. The chicken is flavorful and juicy. I try to visit the place at least once when I fly into town.
JJP Mustang
Best doughnuts I’ve had, anywhere!
Keith Polott
Great chicken, the hot and fresh donuts are always great, but the fancy donuts can be hit or miss. I always feel like I'm going to slide off the goofy folding stools in the front window, but they're still my favorite donut shop in Philly.
Colleen F
I've had their donuts before and loved them. This visit was there first time I got the fried chicken. I'm not sure words can express how wonderful it was. I had one of the wet glazes - honey ginger and my friend for one of the dry rubs - coconut curry. Both of us agreed that the flavoring was amazing, but not over powering. I really liked the fact that even though I had a wet glaze, my chicken wasn't dripping wet. There donuts served with the chicken were the perfect compliment. I may never want a biscuit with chicken again.
Kimberly Wong
I haven't tried their Korean fried chicken so this review is solely for their donuts, which seems to be made of the same cake base rolled with different kinds of sugars or topped with different flavored icings. They were pretty decent, but I think if you've tried like 2 donuts, you've kinda tried them all.
Rob Lariviere
People love this place because it consistently delivers. The hot and fresh donuts are out of this world and the assorted fried chicken turned this place into an instant cult classic. Try the honey soy wet rub, the crispy skin of the chicken laps up all that delicious sauce without ever getting soggy. They regularly sell out of the chicken, so be careful sleeping in on weekends!
Geoffrey Bomarito
Solid donuts. The hot and fresh donuts have great texture and interesting flavors. I had one of the specialty donuts as well: blueberry-lavender. And unlike many berry flavored donuts I've had in the past, this one actually tasted like the fruit! Nice atmosphere too
Christine McNutt
Great donuts. Fun staff. Can't go wrong!
Stephen Quander
Simply Amazing!!!! Best donuts I've ever had hands down
Rachel Antonio
I always look forward to visiting Federal Donuts when I go to Philly. It's great for donut snacks. They have cold iced ones and fresh hot ones straight from the fryer. The fresh ones are good as they just have a dusting of flavored sugar on them. I finally got to try the chicken and was not disappointed. Get a whole bird to share. It's about eight pieces and you can get two flavors. It also comes with a donut!
D G.
Federal Donuts was a great surprise find. The flavors are unique and taste great. How they pack that much flavor in is a mystery. Then they go ahead and make freash three flavors while you watch. Can not beat that.
The service is friendly and great.
Looking forward my next Philly visit!
Sam Bartley
I think there might be a bit of hype over this place. Yeah, they have good donuts, don't get me wrong, and yes, they will make a special donut for you right there in front of you, but in terms of donuts, they're just like any other. They're tasty but not really all that special. I got the lavender strawberry donut, which was made fresh on order, but it's just kind of flavored like a lavender donut with strawberry sprinkles. Having made lavender donuts myself, I was a little disappointed by the lack of lavender flavor. Still good though, just not a "go out of your way" kind of good.
Khalil Saboor (The Clout Engineer)
I thought it was a bit pricey until I got my order. The donut was delicious and I love how the chicken taste like it was fried with Herd's potatoes chips. The employee was nice as well. Would definitely bring friends here next time I'm in the mood for Federal Donuts. :)
James Bradbury
The combination of the soy wings and hot cinnamon brown sugar donut hit all the right notes. I wasnt a fan of the lavender lemonade but my wife loved it. She had a strawberry sugar donut that was out of this world. The double fried chicken is phenomenal.
Christopher Allen
I try to visit Philly once a year, and I always stop by Federal Donuts. The chicken is crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, and delicious all over! The donuts are divine and come in a variety of flavors. Despite its small size, I quite like this location, as the employees are friendly, the service is efficient, and there are usually at least a couple of seats available.
Tony P
I know this place is called Federal DONUTS, but the real prize here is the chicken, particularly their buttermilk ranch rub. All of their chicken flavors are great but the ranch was my favorite and prompted me to order an extra 10 wings to take home.
The donuts are decent. They come out hot, but are your typical cake style donut with various toppings/sugars on them. Not bad, but not worth going out of your way for.
Staff was very friendly.
Gideon Morgan
I haven’t tried the fried chicken but the doughnuts are INCREDIBLE. They’re fresh and warm and delicious! It tends to be pretty busy but they’re pretty quick at getting orders out in my experience and it’s absolutely worth the price.
Ben W
Not the donuts you're expecting. If you're looking for sweet and decadent almost dessert-like donuts with funky toppings then look elsewhere. They have some interesting flavors here - and to be honest - they're well executed, but they're a bit dry and not at all sweet. It sounds funny, but they taste like an onion ring with the onion removed, dipped in cinnamon sugar or other toppings. To be fair, the blueberry really did taste exactly like blueberry...but not like a blueberry donut. Sort of like dried blueberries. The triple chocolate was chocolatey, but dry. It certainly didn't live up to the hype for me.
Joseph Mueller
WOW - awesome chicken, donuts and coffee all under the same roof! A super-friendly staff made me feel welcome, the delicious food made me glad I stopped in. The choices for lunch in center city are plentiful, but I avoid traditional fast-food and don't always feel like sitting down to a full restaurant meal; this place is perfect for a satisfying lunch and I'm sure it would be just as great for a quick dinner. I had a chicken sandwich which put the chains to shame and a trio of hot donuts (I was feeling particularly piggy). Go for the strawberry-lavender if you can. I've been craving it for days since my visit!
Kelley Deyo
I came here on a recommendation and asked the guys at the counter what I should order . They told me the favorite was the strawberry lavender....but most locals like the cinnamon brown sugar... However, their favorite is the cookies and creme. I ordered the strawberry lavender and cinnamon...and they put a cookies in creme in for free bc I HAD to try it. Sure enough, I should have listened! What service, and WHAT donuts!!
Joe Sgro
Donuts, Fried Chicken, and Coffee. I've only ever had the donuts, but that is reason enough to make the stop. The Fancy donuts are the yeasty pre-made kind covered in glaze or frosting and tend to sell out before I get there, but have always been great when I was lucky enough to get my jaws around them (Guava Poppy). The Hot & Fresh donuts are always cooking and are the cake-style sugar coated ones tossed in Cinnamon Brown Sugar, Strawberry Lavender or Vanilla Spice. I have never been disappointed to be "stuck" with just the Hot & Fresh option, but I am more of a cake-style donut person myself. Cinnamon Brown Sugar seems to make the most sense, but the tingly feeling the Strawberry Lavender gives my tongue is something I always look forward to.
Chris Groff
To be quite honest, I'm not that big of a fan of donuts. We stopped in to buy a Purple donut on Princes birthday and tried a few others as well. Everything was fresh and looked amazing. The staff was some of the friendliest people I've come across in the city. Very happy we stopped in.
Greg Bem
We got the Pineapple Brown Sugar donut and the Key Lime Pie donut. Wow. The latter was one of the best donuts I've ever had in my life! I'm so happy they were doing some samples when we got there, too. It's happy seeing that Federal Donuts has expanded so significantly.
Andrew Brown
The fresh donuts are ridiculously good when they are still warm. The fancy donuts were out by the time I got there, but they made fresh donuts all day, so I walked out of there satisfied. There's also fried chicken there, which I will have to try another time along with the fancy donut selections.
B-Trone Skapown
The freshest donut I've ever had, and the chicken sandwiches are really good as well.
The staff was pretty cool and had the food out quickly. There's not a ton of space to sit down but there are a few tables and a counter along the front window.
The Mickey Group
Lunch or breakfast it doesn't matter!!
I've been a longtime fan of their fried chicken sandwiches. Mmmmmm very good, but for breakfast or desert their donuts are unbeatable!
I wish I could list all their flavors here but that would be near impossible. I'm a big fan of their lemon poppy seed donut, and their strawberry lavender, and they always have something fresh!
Definitely a must for anyone visiting the Philly.
Carl Bartizek
Incredible donuts. The guava donut is a must try if you like sweet and fruity flavors. A fun fact, the scraps and bones from the chickens they fry are used to make soup over at Rooster Soup Company, a non-profit soup and sandwich restaurant and bar down the street, owned by the same folks.
Maddy Rose
My friend and I came here on a day trip to Philly after a donut craving. The staff was so nice and welcoming. They gave us recommendations and made us not feel awkward at all! Which I love! I, like the staff, recommend getting one of their hot fresh donuts. I’ll definitely be coming back!!
Rachel Iverson
Cute place for a quick doughnut. I had blood orange and strawberry lavender!
Taun Sterling
Had the chicken sandwich and it was quite good. Moist, not overly seasoned; the bun wasn't anything special. I'd love to try the chicken on a 🍩. And with different sauce options from there wing menu. Don't know if they do that sorta thing. Come earlier in the day or the donuts will be gone y'all! …
Seneca Evans
Love this place. It gets very busy and is very tiny inside but worth it. I just love the honey donut that comes with chicken. Also the strawberry and the cookies and cream. Next time I will try one of the fancy donuts.
Jake Robins
I love this place! Hot, fresh donuts with very intriguing flavors. They typically only have 3 flavors at a time, but regardless of what they are this place is a must try!! Also, their lavender lemonade is quite refreshing.
Natalie Novick
There is a lot of choice for donuts in Philly, but these are excellent and worth making a detour for. I happen to think the sugared donuts hot off the fryer are the best, but the iced ones are also nice. Interesting flavors and not your everyday donut. I had the strawberry-lavender and the guava poppyseed, which were both very good.
Fast and courteous service.
ARGO
New updated location right near the Rittenhouse square park. Much bigger and more space to accommodate their unique customer base. The business model remains the same, a quick eat/snack offered delicatessen style in a kitchen like atmosphere. The menu and great service remains, the location is all that has changed. If you are visiting philadelphia this is well worth a foot voyage to visit, you simply won’t be disappointed at all. If anything you’ll be astonished at how great of a donut they serve here. Try any of the Zaa’tar seasoned offerings, they are great.
Jasmine Rosario
I had heard everyone and their mother rave about federal donuts so I grabbed some on my lunch a while back. While the donuts were out of this world, I think I might have gotten a bad batch of the chicken because it had a solid layer of lard right under the skin. It's hard to describe but when I took my first bite I was taken aback because it almost tasted like the consistency of eating a crunchy peanut butter sandwich - but instead of peanut butter it was lard. I ate the chicken sandwich at one of their other locations and that made up for the experience; but it was the weirdest thing and I have not been back to this specific location since that happened.
Michael Barnes
This is the best destination for donuts south of NYC. They offer both creative cold donuts, and warm donuts with a variety of flavors. Get there early to take advantage of all their cold donuts which are the best. They craft their donuts very well and they might be the best cake donuts on the East Coast.
Kayla F
Go here and get a fresh donut. The lavender donut is one of the best donuts you'll ever eat in your life. normally you can get in and out pretty quick especially if you only get a donuts. There's not really any seating inside though so definitely keep that in mind if you head here.
Joy Jongwe
First time visiting philly, and a friend recommended this spot. I had the buttermilk ranch 3 piece with the honey donut and it was so delicious! I never would’ve thought to put donuts and korean fried chicken together but good job to this place for doing that! Excellent service during Covid. Highly recommend.
Marcus J
The donuts are great. The fresh ones are simple but good. But what’s up with their employees. I think federal donuts is the only one of Michael Solomonov’s group that doesn’t have friendly employees. Literally every time, they are all rude behind the counter. I swear the people at dizengoff, Goldie’s, etc are so nice. But the ones at this location make me avoid going here. The Whole Foods location has better people.
Aishwarya Sonawane
I got a dozen "Hot Fresh Donuts" with three flavors (left to right): Cookies N Cream, Strawberry Lavender and Cinnamon Brown Sugar. I have to say, these are some of the best doughnuts I have ever had! I got them as soon as they were fresh out of the fryer, and that really made a difference in the taste. They were extremely moist on the inside, and thankfully, not very oily and fried as some other doughnuts are. A must-visit whenever you make a trip down to Philly!
Apparittia Matthews
I love donuts and was impressed! the flavors were well balanced, sweet and tangy or sweet and salty. the dough was soft and sweet too. The toppings didn’t have to carry the whole donut, which is always ideal. The service was friendly and fast
Maya Flemming
Federal Donuts is worth the extra money! It's like auntie Anne meets donuts but better! If you get the chance try the chicken sandwich. Your tastebuds will thank you, your heart may hate you. The sandwich is fried but you can taste the buttermilk and dill, its heavy, but heavenly.
Artist Formally Known as 'Riq
Phenomenal service and great taste.
Creative yet classic donut creations with a subtle hint of complexity.
I'm a bit of a donut fanatic, so I did my plain donut test and they PASSED with FLYING colors
Current fav is Strawberry Lavender, but I feel like that could change.
I'll definitely be back.
Not sure why it took me so long to try these 😅
Julie Uno
I was so excited to see how close our hotel was to Federal Donuts. It was our first stop on our trip to Philadelphia. We had the strawberry lavender and the cinnamon brown sugar donuts with the za'atar chicken. The cake-y donuts were sweet and subtle and melt in your mouth delicious. The chicken was hot, crispy and well flavored. I would eat here every week if it were near my house. You must eat here.
Joshua Chang
Donuts come down to three factors for me: flavor, texture, and airiness. Federal donuts does pretty good in all three of these tiers, but isn't perfect in any one of them. But overall, pretty solid donuts.
Federal Donuts separate their donuts into two categories: fancy and fresh. Fancy donuts are pre-made, and certain flavors can run out pretty quickly. Fresh donuts are warm, and texture is on point. I highly recommend the fresh ones.
Stop by if you love donuts!
Elliott
Federal donuts is a staple of Philly now. I can't recommend any other place to quench a donut craving. And if you don't care for a donut grab any of their delicious double-fried chicken. The flavors rotate for the fancy donuts so always worth coming back over and over but the fresh ones are always solid.
Amy Shore
Layout is interesting. Customer seating is different. The seats all face the front counter. Donut flavors are interesting. Only taste good when fresh and warm. If you are going to take them home put them back in the oven to get them warm again. Excellent customer service. Pricing a little high. Take the experience for what it's worth. It's unique.
justin macdonald
Amazing chicken and donuts. The honey dip donut that comes with the 3 piece chicken is fantastic. So soft and yummy. Chicken is crunchy, tasty and well cooked. Also had the chicken sandwich latter, and that was awesome too. Going back in the morn for breakfast!
Barney Simon
I'm not a big donut fan, but this friendly stop on our walk around Philli was perfect. The warm donuts and tea were just the thing. They have limited seating, but you are not coming here to camp, you are coming for a quick snack and moving on.
Helen L
Ordered a $8 chicken sandwich and $1.75 cinnamon brown sugar donut (like apple cider donuts - cake, not yeast donuts). A bit pricy, but both very good, came out quickly and piping hot. $2.75 specialty donuts and $10 orders of fried chicken wings and thighs in different sauces and dry rubs also offered. Elixir and Federal Blend coffee sold here. Small place w limited seating. Friendly staff.
Mukul Gupta
I came to federal donuts on a cold, rainy morning and I was not disappointed. I was told to get the cinnamon sugar donuts (since they are always warm and fresh) and they were soft, sugary but not too sweet and delicious. I went back the next morning as well!
Marquita Gittens
Such a basic spot but the taste of the donuts are out of this world. The lavender donut takes you to another dimension! Better then Krispy Kreme! I know, I said it. Plus they have chicken, the buttermilk ranch flavor is stupendous! Definitely worth trying out, you will not be disappointed.
Alice Wang
I love donuts. And Federal Donuts makes some good donuts.
While visiting Philly, I was browsing through lists of restaurants, cafes, and shops to try and narrow down what I could possibly visit in a 2-day window. I spotted Federal Donuts on several lists and immediately had it down as a must-try. 4 stars on Yelp and over 250 reviews? That's a good sign.
Federal Donuts doesn't just make and sell donuts. They also have fried chicken. Donuts are $2 each, $12 for half a dozen, and $20 for a dozen. What a steal. I ordered a strawberry lavender donut. It was so hard not to order a dozen, but I resisted in the face of my my ever-growing stomach and appetite. I took the donut out and just walked around the streets of Philly in the bright early morning light. Eating that donut while walking was one of the best moments of my trip. A hot, delicious donut with subtle hints of lavender. The strawberry was more overpowering than the lavender, which I prefer anyways, but I loved the lavender undertones.
What I like about Federal Donuts is that it is simple and unpretentious. Their menu offers three simple things: coffee, donuts, and fried chicken. The prices are cheap and the food is fresh. Simple and effective. The donut flavors are unique, from strawberry lavender to spicy PB&J to chocolate and sea salt.
If you're ever in Philly, definitely make a trip to Federal Donuts.
Serena Wong
Got a hot fresh donut and a fried chicken sandwich to share with the hubby and we were super happy. The sandwich is just amazing and everything was served freshly made, so both items were piping hot. The shop is just a little hole in the wall but we had a great time.
Michael Whitley
AMAZING donuts. They have your generic flanked donuts which are anything but generic. In addition to perfecting solid classics (and this revolutionizing your donut experience) they have their own created donuts in the line of chocolate sea salt(my favorite), raspberry crumble and many more.
staff is super friendly, there is no credit card minimum, they have THE BEST donuts of your life, there is no reason for you to not be there - unless it's 2am and they're closed, in which case I forgive you... for now
Domineau Wiley
Their chicken sandwich is worth the trip! The staff are friendly and nice and it’s quick service.
I prefer doughier donuts and these are more cake-y and tend to be drier.
Samantha Slaven
When I was first told about this place I was intrigued yet hesitant. I didn't entirely understand how the concept of a donut shop that also sold chicken could exist let alone be delicious. Oh dear potential deity in heaven was I proven wrong today. Their donuts are phenomenal. Their chicken is flavorful, hot, juicy, and makes for the best damn chicken sandwich I've ever had. Please get the Tel Aviv before it disappears. I will be returning. I need more Fed Nuts in my life.
Ashley Martin
I really like their fried chicken with the dry rubs... Especially the buttermilk ranch one! The donut that comes with the Fried Chicken always weirds me out but I just have to remind myself that it's like chicken and waffles. I'm trying to eat less carbs these days though... So, I'll probably just ask to not get that next time.
Matthew Foster
If you haven't ever been to a Mike Solomonov restaurant before, this is the place to start to get an idea of what this guy is serving up PHL. Hot a fresh donuts? Delectable, incredible, crispy, soft, sweet, and exactly what you want. Fancy donuts? Hell yeah. Rotating cast every few weeks, I've never had a bad one. The fried chicken sandwich is the best hidden gem in the city of Philadelphia. Potato bun, American cheese, twice-fried chicken thigh with powdered buttermilk ranch seasoning (dudes, just try it), spicy mayo, pickles. It's a perfect sandwich. The wings are just as good, too.
The new breakfast sandwich is the only swing-and-miss in the whole place. It's imaginative (the spicy/sweet cherry pepper relish is awesome) but it's not nearly as good as everything else on the menu.
Elliott Russell
Federal donuts is amazeballs. My husband and I were just looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite that wouldn't break the bank and they were the closest thing around so we gave them a shot and I'm glad we did. The donuts are all cake, but topped different ways. The blueberry pancakes was hands down one of the best donuts of my life. And the fried chicken is impressively tastey with some interesting flavor combos available there too.
Jordan Sparks
I love the six-piece fried chicken. All of the glazes and seasonings taste good to great, although I prefer the Honey Ginger and Coconut Curry, respectively. Try all of the donuts, although my favorites are the Hot Fresh over the Fancy.
Andrew Edward
Definitively the best donuts I have ever had in my life. I come here every time I am in Philly. Piping hot old fashioned donuts with a delicate, melt in your mouth crumb are to die for. Pair that with Federal's take on vietnamese coffee (not particularly authentic but good non-the-less) and you have got the perfect way to start your day.
Samara Peters
The fresh donuts are amazing and made to order. Buy a couple and try not to gobble them up all at once! The cold brew coffee was also very good. Super friendly staff
Jed Mariner
Cake Donuts, so be aware if you like less dense Donuts. Choose between the sugar hot fresh ones, or the bigger specialty donuts. Also, possibly my favorite fried chicken. Crispy, yet not heavy like KFC or other spots make you feel. If you want to help charity go down the street to Rooster Soup on Sansom and get some more varied grub and know the profits are helping the local Philadelphia community!
Staff is also always friendly
Ada YiLau
No fried chicken until after 11am!! But the hot fresh donuts were spectacular
theboroughbred
Amazing fresh donuts. A must when visiting Philly.
Erika Comdohr
Delicious donuts with unique flavors!
Bianca Bell
The young lady that's served my daughters and I, she was quite lovely. Didn't mind making the donut hot, if you wait a few minutes. It was our first time visiting, she also threw in a free Donut for us to try...
M. Barra
Their fresh donuts are hard to beat. They are super soft and tasty, and best when the come right off the conveyer belt. I haven't tried the chicken, but I have heard good things.
Kavin Palaniswamy
I frequent this place every since I accidently stumbled in this place. Best donuts in the city period. I had to eat a donut here to know how good a donut can really get. You always get fresh and hot donuts. Small shop, great staff and delicious donuts!!!
Michael Paluch
Stopped in for a donut. I had the hot fresh cookies and cream donut and my girlfriend had the brown sugar cinnamon. Both were good fresh from the frier. For the $1.75 it was worth it. The "hot fresh" donuts are made to order, and "fancy" donuts are made in batches like most other places.
Brian A
You want to talk about talent? Watch these folks prepare their artisanal, delicious donuts before your eyes. They give you a donut dipped in honey with your fried chicken order... you will not regret trying this pair. Bring a dozen of these for your office colleagues and become an instant success!
Michelle Smith
I went here on my lunch break to order the chicken sandwich everyone has been raving about.
I popped in about 20 minutes into my hour long lunch break and ordered the chicken sandwich. It was pretty busy even for a Sunday so I figured it’d be a long wait. I waited nearly the whole remainder of my lunch before I inquired about the sandwich. I couldn’t wait for them to make the sandwich so I politely accepted the offer to refund my money and I made up my mind that was the last lunch break I spend in FD waiting for food. I’m not sure what took so long.
Before I could get the refund one of the people working there offered to bring me my sandwich to work. I wasn’t too keen on it simply because I wouldn’t really be able to eat it. Since I was pressed for time, I had 5 minutes left I said “sure” and ran out and kind of chalked my 7.50 and figured worse case a co worker would eat it. I went back to work. Maybe about 15 minutes later my manager shows up with a hot sandwich and 6 fancy donuts saying that FD brought it over. I shared the remaining donuts with my coworkers and the sandwich was delicious. Thanks Federal donuts for making this right and I will definitely be back for another chicken sandwich.
Samuel Krause
I love Federal Donuts and donuts in general so I'm a little biased. However when I went this time for a Chicken sandwich and donuts for lunch they forgot to give me my donuts. I even ate inside and asked multiple times for them. They brought out my sandwich first and I asked about the donuts and she said it would be coming. I asked again a few minutes later and she said to wait. I ended up eating my sandwich and finishing my drink and not until I asked again probably 20 minutes later did they realize they forgot me. However they did apologize and give me a free donut so I was happy about that!
Sara Woodsmith
Best donut I've ever had.... ever. The classic ones are good, they change up the fancy flavors a lot so always something new to try. Mmmh-warm and fresh... *trails off and daydreams about donuts
Anthony Colona
Federal Donuts is quite possibly one of the best donut shops in Philadelphia. Their hot and fresh are incredible. The chicken is also EXCELLENT, golden brown, perfect with honey! The price is definitely fair because the quality is tippy top!
Jimmy Reed
Fried Chicken and doughnuts what's not to love?? I'm not a fan of doughnuts but Federal has amazing doughnuts!! They use cake batter and they are amazing! The Chicken Sandwich they sell is phenomenal and I get it every time, make sure you get it before they sell out for the day!
I moved away from the city and this is a must have stop for me when I go home!
Sudil Mahendra
Amazing donuts. The fancies are a nice treat, but the hot and ready donuts are the best (cinnamon brown sugar, vanilla spice, and strawberry lavender). Chicken is great but very heavy. Be prepared.
Erik Smith
Always have a great time in here. One and/or both of the twins (only seen them both there once) make me feel like a valued customer and seem to remember me even though I go there infrequently.
Great flavors, kind staff, cute little shop. Proud to have seen them grow around Philly. I always pick these up as a Philly staple for my events.
OH YOU CAN GET MINI DONUTS IF YOU CALL AHEAD!!! (24hrs notice, hot n fresh flavors only)
M. Yvonne
Great donuts, been here 3 times so far, first lady was alright. Could have way better front service, second time lady was a bit snide. As long as u don't expect great front service, u will get amazing donuts by the donut master in the back.
Eric Riebesell
I have wanted to come to Federal Donuts ever since the role they played in Phish Bakers Dozen. Federal Donuts definitely lived up to the hype. The hot cinnamon sugar donut was incredible. I also had a blood orange carmel donut that was delicious. It was so good that I am about to go back and it hasn't even been an hour since I was there.
Chris Roggen
Oh wow. The donut was amazing! The chicken was blow your mind good. We had 2 different seasonings and they were both just as good. Super friendly staff!
Khalid Ahmad
Best fried chicken sandwich I ever had anywhere. Donuts are amazing.
Obie Burch
Cook & servers were extremely friendly and descriptive. The cook had a very smooth rhythm as he prepared our chicken wings & sandwiches. I placed 3 separate orders giving me a chance to interact with all three servers and they all were AMAZING! Each one was able to connect with me on three different topics, good way to experience diversity!!! To the young brown cook...GOOD JOB BRO!

I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE!
I. ADMIRE. THIS. PLACE!
I want one for my birthday- I mean a store!!
The donuts are lovely- so delicious! My favorite is the classic* Strawberry Lavender. It is freshly deep-fried and sugar-coated. YUUUMMM! The other donuts- classic & specialty- are great too!
All that's missing is a stamp card for customers! I have been asking for this to be implemented for 4 or 5 years. Ugh! Lol! I am still hoping it happens!
Make sure you stop by 1 of there 4 stores VERY SOON! (Surprisingly, I can't find a donut pic to post here. Sorry!)
Carol Chan
My husband and I came to Federal Donuts for desserts post late lunch. They sold out their fancy donuts long before our visit but who needs fancies when they have freshly made ones on the spot?
My only regret was eating lunch and not have enough stomach room to down another dozen - honestly the best donut of my life - Lavender Strawberry! The donut was piping hot when it was served, the inside was still gooey and soft, the outside was still crunchy and gorgeously coated with the perfect amount of crystallized sugar - Who knew lavender and strawberry work so well together?
My husband had their freshly made cinnamon brown sugar donut and it reminded me of a churro. Equally delish as the lavender strawberry. $1.50 each, $6 for half dozen - what a steal! I will be sure to revisit Federal Donuts whenever I'm in Philly!
Jai Sangha
Great donuts but one of the best service. Very good people.
Marc Dallaire
Great donuts. Try the hot options. Got a cookies and cream and it was fantastic. Solid coffee too. Unfortunately I didn't even realize they did chicken until I saw some guy roll out with a drumstick in hand getting after it.
Kara Albert
They have the best chicken sandwich in the city! Forget popeyes or chic-fil-a, this place has it beat! Flavorful juicy chicken and I love that you have fries now. Fries are fresh cut and well seasoned. Thanks! We will be back!
Frederik T
Possibly the best donuts in Philadelphia, made to order on the spot, even 15 minutes before closing.
Scott Meyer
This place is DELICIOUS. Donuts are always fresh and tasty, the chicken sando is wonderful(Just had the Tel Aviv and they knocked it outta the park!), and the fried chicken is always on point with awesome flavors. Did I mention the fried chicken comes with a donut too! Winner.
Christina Reif
The donuts were good, but not as amazing as I had hoped after all the hype. They only have a small selection of cake donuts, so if a wide variety or yeast donuts are your thing, this is not the place for you. I didn't try the chicken, so I can't speak for that.
Sohail Rana
Hot ones are okay no real flavor besides sugar. I have eaten many donuts but this one was a real let down. The donut part was a bit denser than I would have liked and there was way too much sugar for my liking.
Cary Davish
By far the Best donuts I've ever had in my life . Always have great choices on the fancy donuts but hot one are great too. Fried chicken sandwich was amazing . I want a bucket of the sauce they put on it
Breana Ferguson
Waaaay better then expected. The warm fresh strawberry lavender was like a trip to the fair. The guava cheesecake was very moist and tangy and not too sweet. The chocolate cheesecake was less moist and more cakey and just the right richness, wasn’t too much. This is a must stop at while in philly! Definitely going back to try the chicken sandwich.
Lucia Orejarena
Delicious donuts made fresh. There is sometimes a line but it moves very quickly.
Erin Lang (Erin)
Donuts made fresh right in front of us! Chicken sandwich was a little tough, but yummy. Loved it! :)
seulberg lala
One of the few Donut shops around, where you can get made-to-order donuts. Personally, I have not tried the fried chicken, but the coffee is tasty and if you enjoy heavy Donuts, then this is your place.
Hannah C
Delicious hot cookies and cream donuts. So good, I couldn't wait to eat it to snap a pic.
Paul Dorasil
Omg, this place is so damn good! First, the chicken is amazing. I got the green chicken and I was very impressed. It's nice because it has a thin crust while being packed full of flavor. The doughnuts are great although I will say that I preferred the honey doughnuts over the sugar-covered ones. I didn't get a chance to try their specialty doughnuts because they were sold out. The next time I am in Philly, I am making it a point to get chicken and doughnuts from Federal.
C Johnson
Cute little place tucked away, if you walk too fast you will miss it. Great staff, even toward closing they will make donuts in demand. Classic donuts are great, lavender is fantastic.
Elizabeth Gall
This place has been on my bucket list for years, and it lives up to my own personal hype. We got one of each of their offerings - a premade donut (triple chocolate), a made to order donut (strawberry lavender), and a chicken sandwich. Any single one of these could be a successful business, but being able to get all three at once (and coffee)? Bliss.
jo ann lewis
I’ve spend a lot of time in philly in the last few years. Somehow we never made it to Federal Donuts till today. Oh what we have been missing! The chicken is delicious - super crispy skin with moist flavorful chicken inside. Lots of dipping sauces we didn’t try cause the chicken was so perfect we didn’t need them.
And then there are the donuts. There are not enough other ways to say perfection. We tried a plain one and an Oreos one. Beyond normal donuts. Heaven in a little paper bag. Who needs cheesesteak when you have federal donuts?
Matthew Mcclosky
A little over priced in my opinion but the chicken was pretty good. I got the barbecue dry rub that added another dimension to the chicken. And they give you a donut with every order and it was fresh made. I'm going back again soon.
Sara White
Best donuts hands down. Staff is friendly and organized during peak lunch hours, but the donuts stole the show and we're worth the wait. (Visited on National Donut day and waited 5 mins for fresh donuts. WORTH IT!)
Seth W
Best donuts in the city. Try the made to order brown sugar cinnamon and thank me later. Their fried chicken will knock your socks off too. Can't stress this enough go here!!
Julie Xiao
I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Sadly, they don't have fried chicken until 11am so had to just get doughnuts. I like that they let you sample the doughnuts before you purchase any. I got the butter pecan old fashioned doughnut and the lemon meringue doughnut. They're considered fancy doughnuts so they cost $1 more than the regular doughnuts. They were really tasty, not too sweet. The lemon meringue was my favorite since I like lemon and there was a lot of lemon flavor. The meringue was interesting since it was inside the hole of the doughnut. The prices are decent and the doughnuts are tasty. I will definitely come back to try their fried chicken.
Dinesh Reddy Vakiti
Amazing donuts and chicken. They change their donut recipes weekly. So far went four times and liked every donut. They melt in the mouth. Took them home, my friends liked them as well. Expensive though
Jacob Levitt
The cinnamon brown sugar is amazing but you really got to try the cookies and cream donut don't forget that it exists. It's too amazing! Chicken is good too.
Yiannis D
Food wise everything is delicious and I love this place. But I think it's completely unacceptable that they are only taking cards. It is illegal for businesses to not accept cash in Philadelphia. I understand there is a coin shortage and to ask customers to give exact change if possible but what they are doing is still illegal
Leatrice Malec
The chicken is delicious. Donuts are good but the chicken is worth the trip. They make it when you order so it is hot but it is so good it is impossible to wait until it cools to eat it.
Jeff Bredt
Good donuts, great staff. Hard to compete with DC's Astro Donuts, but quite good nevertheless. Won't pass up on next trip to Philly. Will try the chicken, too.
Laura Lynn
I stopped here twice while on a four day vacation. I even took donuts home to Milwaukee to share (I almost had to beat airport staff off my donuts with a stick). If I go back to Philadelphia, it will like be to stop at Federal Donut again.
Bonus: the staff was friendly. I didn't know how things worked, but they were quick to help me out.
Donnie Moreno
FINALLY made it to a federal donuts and from Jersey in a snowstorm to boot. Was it worth it? Abso-fricking-lately! We passed by it a couple of times since it was smaller than we expected with a small bar seats along the window and wall. While there were a few hours to close they were out of the fancy donuts but did have the cookies and creme along with cinnamon brown sugar. These were just....amazing. We initially were going to have one each and then be on our way since we just ate lobster rolls but we just HAD to have more. So damn soft and fresh.
The young lady behind the counter was super friendly and the people were coming in waves but every single time she was friendly and helpful even though she was the only one taking orders. Friend chicken and chicken sandwiches were also available but those will have to wait until next time....very soon.
Cody Taylor
Staff were super friendly . However the $7.50 chicken sandwich was over priced . And they don't let you chose the type of sauce you want on. It comes "as is* as for the donuts, they are unique but I'm upset that I could not just order a glazed donut
Stefan Leacock
The staff were actually one the of the highlights to my trip to Philly last week. They were so patient and warm; they even suggested other restaurants that I should check out. I think the cashiers name was Sienna? Sierra? You were awesome - thank you again! (...... and the food was great ;) )
Pheon M
1st time there today-the donuts are delicious Cinnamon sugar n cookies and cream so good. Worth the 2 mins wait for fresh warm donuts.
A Ka
Didn’t know the chicken was Korean-style but hands down the place to go if you’re in Philly. Wait for a regular fresh donut, and ask for half a chicken (they have different toppings/flavors). Been here repeatedly and has never failed me. The side pickles they provide is always good, too (never enough). In fact, I’ll goto Philly just to get the fried chicken and donuts (I know there’s chicken and waffles in HOU—pales in comparison).
Marianne Dias
Good donuts and fried chicken. You must come early because there's always people in line waiting outside to get inside. Unfortunately the place is very small.
Davud Kazdal
Cozy place and uniqiue flavors of donuts. The donuts were pretty heavy since they were cake donughts.
Lauren Spiegel
Best donuts I've ever had! The cinnamon and mexican hot chocolate were my favorites. We were only in the city one night and made multiple trips. Highly recommend this place!
Rob Lofton
It's effing delicious!!!!! Sorry I would show a pic, but I ate it all.... Guess you have to go and try yourself! :-)
Ryan Chani
Great donuts and even better chicken sandwiches. Perfect for a swing in binge.
Thepiggyrules
These guys make a great donut. There are seasonal flavors which are always a treat. It is just a well executed delicious donut. I go every time I visit Philly.
MOGUL MEDIA
I am absolutely obsessed with the made to order "hot" donuts, specifically the Strawberry and Lavender donuts! I recommend that any donut aficionados allow their palates to evolve from those gimmicky, sugar laden mass produced donut chains!
Makeda Johnson
Had the hot n fresh 1/2 dz donuts which consists of strawberry lavendar, cookies n cream and cinnamon sugar. The donuts were made to order. Fresh n hot out the fryer and sugar topping were to die for. Will get the chicken next time.
Diamond Slayer
I had been reading up on this spot for years but never got a chance to visit. Last Sunday 5/29/16 was a day to remember. My gf and I shared half a chicken, which btw,I will NEVER tell my mom that it's better than hers. Ok I will lie to her and say it was almost better than hers. It was juicy, crispy, and amazingly not greasy (I had the chili sauce on the side). The moment I had my first bite of the strawberry lavender donut brought tears to my eyes,a truly foodgasmic experience. We also tried the chocolate eclair, the butter pecan, and of course the donut that comes with the chicken, I forget what it was called, but I tell you, if they were in jersey ,I'd practically live there. I would work out more just to eat more federal donuts. It is truly worth the trip. For the few haters and naysayers, your taste buds must be rubbed off by rubbing alcohol or sandpaper, or you're just a hater to be a hater. Stay out and leave more for the rest of us! Extra special compliments to the staff! Super friendly and VERY informative!
Maddie Wiechec
While you have to choose your arrival time early to avoid a large crowd of people in the very tiny space that is Federal donuts, it is always worth it. The hot donuts are melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the fancy donuts never disappoint.
julio mejia
My first time trying Korean fried chicken, it was very good, juicy and flavorful. I also used the sugar donut to dip in the chili garlic sauce. Pretty good stuff. Only down side is the very limited seating.
Brooks Child
Federal Donuts does two things, friend chicken and donuts, and it does them exceptionally well. The menu may be small but everything on it is so delicious. Federal Donuts is a must-go any time I am in Philly!
Jon Bianco
Quality of fresh doughnuts was amazing (cookies and cream had a bland flavor) the strawberry one was really good. Minus One star due to them not having any seciality doughnuts available which is what we originally wanted
Sabrina Schroeder
Like always, the hot donuts and wings were amazing. I love the sauces because they are light and extremely flavorful and the wings are super crispy. So well worth the stop.
Abigail VanderLek
Who doesn't love donuts and fried chicken? The fried chicken sandwich is a favorite of mine if you are looking for something a bit less messy. Any of the specialty donuts are amazing!
Pete Z
Hot and fresh donuts are awesome.
Kevin Mui
Best donut is Guava cream cheese!
Small & friendly place nearby all the nice shops in the heart of the city.
Their chair & table reminds me of middle or high school! Lol class is in session & the topic is tasty donuts.
David Lee
Best cake donuts in Philadelphia. The special donuts are very creative and taste amazing, but I always liked the simple comfort of the hit fresh donuts. You can't go wrong with federal donuts!
Tim Buczek
So good! The donuts are creative and substantial - not those lightweight fluffy nothing donuts. We got the guava poppy seed, the strawberry cheesecake, churro, butter pecan, and original glazed. Our favorites were the butter pecan, cheesecake, then the churro and original were close second.
Oscar Phillips
If you haven't tried this place you are missing out on life!
Everything is sooooooo good. Personal favorite is the chili garlic chicken. Was really sad when they changed from chicken baskets to the chicken sandwiches at the Phillies stadium but I understand why.
Also that chicken sandwich is the absolute best!
Also also you will never have a bad donut here - it just isn't possible
Trevor Roy
Great warm doughnuts, crispy and juicy chicken. Small location.
Lauren Garoppo
Love Federal Donuts! It’s always a highlight when the boss brings them to the office on Friday. The specialty donuts are delicious but you can’t beat a fresh one
Xavier Paez
Delicious! I was visiting Philly for a day and end up here. I loved the Strawberry (fresh and hot) donut. The staff during this afternoon was lovely. Best donut ever.
Raw Truth
Here you can- takeout, grab a quick bite, some sit down space. Solo, friends or family looking for something quick and keeping it pushing.
Probably the BEST donuts in Philly!
At first glance " Donuts and fried chicken, huh?" Followed by "Donuts and fried chicken, Genius! " Gourmet donut flavors go QUICK. Chicken is succulent and juicy and well fried!
Review is the Rittenhouse location only.
(My ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 5 star, with 1 star being tragic and 5 star being Ouwww terrific)
Overall ratings- 5 stars bc of the donut taste!
Customer service- 4 star
Cleanliness- 3.5 star
Food taste- 5 star! Ouwww!
Food portions- 4 star
Ambiance- 3.5 star. Not relaxing but great for something quick.
Decor- 4 star decent for what it is.
Eric Souza
The donuts were slim pickings by the time we were able to make it here one day. Still, I wouldn't what was available was as great as the reputation that proceeds them. If your frame of reference is Dunkin Donuts or even Krispy Kreme, then I can certainly see the preference for Federal Donuts. But they're not the only homemade donut in town.
Austin Graff
Being from DC where we have several great doughnut shops, I was a little skeptical of another gourmet doughnut shop outside of DC. However, this place did not disappoint. They don't have any non-cake doughnut options, but my wife and I got their fresh brown sugar doughnut. It came out super hot, which made it amazing! Highly recommend this place if you want a snack as you roam the historic streets of Philadelphia.
Shane Galloway
Went for a chicken sandwich on 3/8, the sandwich was amazing and the service was excellent. I cannot remember the names of the two gentleman closing that night but they talked with us and made it an overall great experience. Will be back!
Mateo Ramos
Great donuts but very expensive. Usually get my coffee elsewhere because I'm not a big fan of theirs. Wouldn't mind if they had more choices of donut, usually only 6 of regular kind and 6 fancy.
daniele mesiti
they lost my chicken sandwich ticket and gave me a donut for free. the wait was well worth it, one of the best chicken sandwiches in the northeast area for sure. this is the perfect place to check when you enter or leave Philadelphia.
Cody Mann
The chicken is hot, juicy and so crispy it explodes in your mouth! Their donut rotation is usually a pretty good variety also - and of course are delicious.
Darren C
The fried chicken here is phenomenal. The buttermilk ranch one really exemplified everything that is to love about fried chicken.
Kelly Wear
Not as good as Beiler's Donuts in Reading Terminal, but still a must-go place in Philly. Flavors change frequently. The blueberry muffin donuts are excellent.
Brian Merrell
The space is small and it's not the easiest to find, but the donuts here are tasty, creative, and served warm -- far better than average. Look elsewhere if you're hoping for standard choices, though. And if only they had better coffee!
Kirk Duwel
Hands down the best fried chicken I have ever had. Now I know why it had somd out wverytime I went over the last several years. The chicken >> doughnuts (at least the honey glazed that came with it). As I am finishi g the last bites I am considering going back in to get another half to try another flavor.
Nan Carde
The glazed donut was nothing to write home about: slightly dry, without much flavor. However! The vanilla-flavored, sugar-coated donuts were warm pockets of deliciousness fresh from the fryer.
Rodolfo Bryson
Great chicken. Their donuts are average at best. They strive to do stuff that's over the top. Have not found a donuts shop that rivals anything from out west.
Drew Pennyfeather
Donuts tastes amazing, and the chicken is really good
Efstathia Kalapothakos
Fresh, delicious, warm doughnuts! Staff were super friendly and while the place is small, they do have seating for customers waiting or eating in. If you aren't a doughnut fan they have breakfast sandwich options as well.
Grace Hyeri Chung Ji
Chicken sandwich was great! I liked the chocolate coconut donuts much more than the fresh donuts even though I'm not a huge fan of coconut shavings 😋 …
Lois Hanson
Great shop with delicious donuts. They are always fresh and the ingredients are of good quality. The prices are fair and the customer service amazing.
Rachelle H
Great and fun flavor donuts. As a 1st timer, I wasn't clear on how to order, but a 2nd person stepped in to explain. Donuts great! Chicken average.
Dev Gohil
Best donuts I have ever ate. The lady at cashier macgine is very nice an helpful. She is very very humble to customer. Wish can give them more than 5 stars.
Emma Elsmo
Best fresh baked donuts! Make me smile every time 🍩 …
Landon Cowles
Does not disappoint! My favorite is the Fried chicken sandwich and strawberry lavemdar donut. Can't go wrong! In and out in about 20min at noon on a Friday.
Rachel Skonecki
Awesome breakfast sandwiches and incredible doughnuts. Great combo all around
Drake Dodson
Love their donuts (blueberry pancake is my favorite flavor) and their chicken sandwiches. It's simple and they don't offer much, but what they do have is excellent!
Sue Reed
The donuts are good and fresh, but do yourself a solid and get coffee there! Loved their coffee! Small space, ling line, but the line moves quickly
Marc DiCamillo
The fried chicken is amazing, had most seasonings and liked them all. Hot donuts fantastic, everybody loved them. Want to go back all the time. Thank you for your existence.
Bryan Juliano
Go for the donuts, stay for the chicken sandwich. Seriously the best chicken sandwich I have ever had, great bun, crispy juicy chicken, and an awesome sauce. Try the hot donuts, you won't regret it.
R Hart
Donuts were great, especially warm. Chicken was good. Some staff not great at explaining menu process and selection to newbies.
Melissa
The chocolate old fashion donut is AMAZING! And all the other specialty donuts we sampled were fantastic too. Staff is super friendly.
Sarah Catrow, LMT, MMP
One of my favorite places ever visited! Hot fresh strawberry lavender donuts, hot fresh cinnamon brown sugar and that chicken! Mmmmmm! Went 2 mornings in a row. So sad to leave it in Philly!!!!
Jesse Johnson
I was in and out quickly with no problems. The staff was helpful and friendly. The dark chocolate donut may have been the best donut that I have ever had! This place is a must for anyone visiting Philadelphia.
Alexis Walton
It was ok. Clean.
The service was very nice.
Only wings at this location.
Very small wings. That was bad.
Rich B
I enjoyed my doughnut and the friendly staff
superduperstapler
Incredible donuts, both the fresh and the fancy. Great service. Threw an awesome block party with free food for everyone and live band. I love the CookeNSolo family!
Seth Pollack
My favorite donuts on the planet. I rolled in right before closing and instead of being annoyed, Kevin was extra gracious with me and another couple latecomers. Great food and great vibe here.
Rachel Kern
Amazing doughnuts! Favorites are strawberry-with-anything and brown-sugar-cinnamon. Hot and delicious! For the specials, love the churro-flavored one, and the guava poppyseed. Mmmmmmmmm.
Smitha Sindagi
These are the benchmark for doughnut's. I have stopped eating anywhere else.
But can't sit there and have .The smell is too over powering and can block your nose ..because they make right in front you ..
Try their lavender sugared doughnut
Bill Newbold
The donuts are really good. The chicken is good and not your typical Fried Chicken. Then several times and definitely would go back.
Connie Christians
As always, fantastic Donuts -fresh and hot. My favorite is the strawberry lavender. And I got to share the experience with a newbie as we ate hot chicken sandwiches.
Joann Mckendry
First time eating here today and let me just say, WOW their food is so delicious. I will drive from Jersey anytime to eat here.. If you haven’t had a chicken sandwich & a donut from here yet, you are definitely missing out...
tom paradiso
The best. Hot n Fresh ‘nuts are always good but their fancy donuts are incredible. Better than anything you can get in NYC.
Aurora Fields
Delicious hot donuts. Friendly staff. Cute atmosphere. What's not to love! My fave is the cinnamon brown sugar
Henrietta Clark
I don't really like donuts, but I liked THEIR donuts. They fry them right in front of you and coat them too! No place to sit when I went, had to stand, but worth it.
Kyle Lehman
Only can vouch for the donuts but they were amazing. Unfortunately, they were out of fancy donuts when I went at about 3pm but I cannot blame them for that. I will be back to try the fancy donuts and chicken.
Alana Edwards
Ahh Federal. My treat for payday, because I couldn't validate paying $8+ for one of the most tasty Chicken Sandwiches ever. A solid, thick piece of chicken breast seasoned and complimented with pickle and some type of seasoned mayo...I just need it to be bigger because I am gluttonous and I want more🤣
But I've now converted my BF with a Cookie & Cream Doughnut fresh baked, a hr later and not hard 🤗 so imagine right out.... ahhhh 😊thanks for reading the juicy deets lol
Derick Morales
GET A HOT N FRESH DONUT. The honey ginger fried chicken is phenomenal too. The donuts run $1.50-$3.00 and the chicken is about $9 for three pieces.
Dawn Whaley
I went right before closing so there wasn't a lot of choices with the specialty Donuts. Overall what I did have was good. So there was not much of choices with the specialty donuts. Overall what I did have was good.
Clayton Fioravanti
It's always good always fresh. I was only going to get chicken but my resolve crumbled you have to get a couple fancy donuts they are fantastic. Worth the wait ...
Olivia Keys
Me and my boyfriend watched a show on the food network channel and Federal donuts was part of the segment. I fell in love with going and trying the food. Today I went to a Sixers game with family and stopped there on the way home. OMG!!!😉😉 got the chicken sandwich and guava & cream cheese hot fresh donuts .....soooooooo soooooo good I was full from the game and still managed to eat it all, Im such a foodie😊. So anyway if you can head out to Philadelphia Pa don't forget to stop by a Federal donuts you will not be disappointed. I REPEAT NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!! MMMM...MMMMM GOOD.
Ellie sanders
Absolutely awesome donuts, not too big and surprisingly not too sweet (that might have something to do with the size), definitely a good recommendation for a sweet treat in Philly
Jonathan Gray
Made while you wait, hot and scrumptious, melt in your mouth fresh donuts!!!
Carley Ford
Cookies and cream is the donut to try! Served hot and fresh. Will definitely be back to try their chicken sandwich!
Steven Kravitsky
Best donuts in the city, probably the best donuts I will ever have too. The cinnamon brown sugar donuts are a lot better than the fancy donuts, they are just too sweet to have alone.
George Brightman
The fried chicken is irresistible. Either dry rub or wet, options abound. Of course, the donuts are fantastic, but go early, because both run out!
Tyler Oshnock
2 large coffees and a dozen doughnuts half hot half specialty was 31$.the doughnuts are exceptional but the coffee was extremely underwhelming and the whole thing was just not worth the bill.
Griffin Morris
It’s good but $11 (after tax) for three chicken tenders is not worth it
Ravi Ramanathan
There is a great selection of delicious gourmet donuts if you get there early in the morning. Late in the day, the options will be relatively limited as they only make a certain amount of donuts per day.
Chi Huynh
Love the fried chicken and probably the best in the Philly area. The doughnuts are also excellent. A great place to get my fire chicken fix every now and again.
Chelsea Wirjosemito
Their chicken sandwiches are my fave. You can’t go wrong with a dozen hot and fresh donuts either. Always a hit!
Sam Tate
It was okay.... I had the hot 🍩 and let me tell you it is no Krispy Kreme.. if I knew it was just going to be covered with flavored sugar I would have tried something else. …
Pearl Greaver
Delicious chicken! We tried the ranch flavor...yummy! The Carrot Cake and Mississippi Mud Donuts were excellent!
B A
Cool, awesome place. Great variety of selection. Awesome appearance w a fantastic taste. If ur a donut lover you will be in heaven. Will be back on my cheat day.
Garrett Schultz
I came back all the way from California to get these donuts. If you even think you might want to get some donuts, you need to get Federal donuts.
The taste, the smell and heck, even the workers are amazing!
jon mmmayhem
Consistently great doughnuts, whether the inventive fancy or the reliable hot sugared, always a crowd pleaser. Also the chicken, although I usually just get doughnuts
Rachel Zimmaro
Greasy, tasty goodness. The perfect cure for a hangover... or a case of the Mondays. ALWAYS a long line, which is good for them, but that's why I took a star away. Though the workers are very efficient about keeping the line moving.
Red Dacquel
Well beloved chicken and donut spot. I am half wondering why they didn't do a chicken sandwich on one of their amazing donuts... *sigh* opportunity missed. Big hit with the locals. I totally see why. May have to bring some back to NY.
Daniel Pino
**Ordered takeout during COVID pandemic
Food
*Bacon & egg breakfast sandwich (without hot relish) - good
*Cinnamon brown sugar donut - good
*Old fashioned donut - good
Videos coming 2019!!
Very friendly business Sierra the cashier was very polite and gave me 2 free donuts along with a discount because I work locally the donuts one was guava sweet cream which she said was her favorite and a peanut butter malt one both were very tasty and honestly the best donuts I ever had the chicken sandwich was amazing their chicken is soooooo good I enjoyed every bit I will be back!!!!
Jorge Zambrana
Donuts were fresh and absolutely delicious. Chicken sandwich was just as good! Great service too.
Brody Kestel
The doughnuts were all made right in front of you. You could create whatever toppings you would like on them. The owner and staff are all great!! Amazing!
Ariana Diggs
I got the 5 wing fried chicken with buttermilk ranch seasoning and honey donut combo, it was so delicious! Go try this place out if you’re in town!
Kyle Sweeney
The best donuts if you're in area. Quick place to eat and unique flavors. Also sell pretty good friend chicken too.
Greg Duff
The staff were all very friendly, the cinnamon sugar donut was warm and fresh, and the coffee tasted more like an artisan roaster than a donut place.
S P
Wait is too long if you order a chicken sandwich and will have a higher chance to get your order forgotten. They have compensated a few customers with a free donut for the inconvenienced customers.
Jennifer Banuelos
My second trip to Philly had to include a trip to Federal Donuts so my husband could try it! The chicken is soooo good (we got ranch and bbq) and the donuts are perfect.
CRACKED tEEth-fishing
If you're looking for a doughnut thats new, fresh, but rocks your taste buds back & forth...to the future, and past like the DeLorean from Back to the Future..This is the place to be...The service as well is amazing..Im surprised there are still other doughnut shops around, but then again some people are afraid to dabble in the unknown!
RNA Photography
All I'm going say is Cinnamon Donuts posted with a Friend chicken sandwich.....
Alejandro Lopez
Fresh donuts are the best, but they normally run out of their pre-made, fancy donuts by 1pm. Must try their honey donuts that come with the chicken.
Katie Lundhoff
Love this place. Always get a strawberry lavender donut and LOVE the fried chicken. Ive been enjoying the chicken sandwich at the moment.
Dayce Schrieber
Simply amazing chicken and donuts. Unique flavors for both. FYI, bathroom is across the street...don't know how that passed code, but what do I know.
Cassandra Krill
Delicious!! They have a good variety of unique options for donuts and their regular food comes highly recommended as well!
Cecilie Lopez-Jensen
AMAZING donuts, they're a must try!!
Mr. Luppino
Incredible! Soft, crispy donuts. Their Salted Caramel Pretzel is wonderful, and so is their Cereal Glaze.
CIRCUIT TREE

Classic donuts are great. Fresh donuts are a bit greasy but that's what you get with fresh donuts. However, the sugar on the fresh donuts was a bit overwhelming.
Devin House
Cake like donuts that change with whim, and season. Oh, and fried chicken. Not to be missed, but get your order in early. Once they're gone for the day, there are no more.

A must visit for the true quick Philly breakfast experience. Got one chocolate cake and one cinnamon brown sugar donut, and that was a hard choice.

Run out of the fancies early, why not gauge this more efficiently n increase your bottom line, the other donuts are very fresh n good too,the chicken is good n various crusts n rubs are exceptional, many flavors to choose from, special mention to cashier n cooks, very friendly n fast,n when they overheard my daughter found the rub a bit spicy for her liking the cook offered to replace it,i said it was fine, but a few minutes later he gave her 2 more pieces that she really enjoyed,at no charge, very kind n generous, donuts n fried chicken n great coffee,i love it,thanks guys

I have to be honest at first never knew this place even existed only found out about it when a friend of mine took me there and wow was my mind blown by the freshness of the food friendly customer service and just speedy service the donuts and food options are amazing small little place is the down side since it is always packed but on warm sunny days they have seating outside but this is the place to go for fresh made donuts of epic tastes and take your time to enjoy some delicious food also.

Hot fresh donuts which were really good, the chicken was okay. Nothing too special and very little sauce so it made it dry
