I’d heard of these cookies and pomade it a point to get one when I visited New York. The brioche was good but the cookie really delivered. These are the kinds of cookies that are absolute units, even larger than that of Ben’s cookies in London. The chocolate chips were practically molten and the walnuts were a necessary crunch and nutty flavour in the sea of sweetness. Is it the best cookie I’ve ever had? Maybe. If I had been asked when I was eating it I’d definitely say so.

First time in NYC and ended up going here 3 times in a matter of 2 days. Coffee cake was super moist and great ripples of flavor. Went back for some cookies and fell in love. Best tasting and super thick! I went back the next day and got more cookies to bring back home, and now I have no cookies left and just dreaming of going back to this place. Staff was super friendly and huge portions for the price! Love this shop.

By far the world's best cookies ever. They have a very extensive menu now but stick to the original cookies. The chocolate Chip walnut cookies are amazing. They are my fav. They will also pack them in a box for travel. The cookies will stay good for ~3 days and in the freezer for a longer time. I also tried one of the new cookies -- the rocky road and it was also really good. The place does not have a lot of seating. The best thing to do is buy the cookies and take them to Central Park and enjoy a picnic with some cheese and wine.

These are the best cookies of New York. Just go for the basic Chocolate Chip Walnut. Genuine big chunks of walnut, always served at perfect warm temperature, always look freshly made. Don't leave NY without having tried one of them!

From the iconic cookies and fresh baked goods, you’ll never go wrong with anything on the menu. They also have great coffee to pair with your goodies. It’s definitely a place to visit especially when you’re visiting NYC.

Wanted to try this place for months and it was worth the wait! Ordered double chocolate chip cookie and spiced cookie (fall special) Worth the hype?? : Yup! To an extent definitely! They are as they say super delicious and chunky! Flavour: Loved the cookies overall especially when cold! Recommend not heating them before eating! Do combine it with coffee or something not too sweet to cut through the sweetness of the cookies Ambience: The bakery is quiet small with limited seatings options! Two rows of high chair seating and bench as well! The team was quite prompt and helpful! To keep in mind: If you want hot cookie do mention while ordering and not after! We missed informing them and so they threw the old ones out and got new hot ones! It’s quite wasteful!

The cookies lived up to the hype! We ordered a Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie, and Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie. The dark chocolate cookies were our favorites - they are so delicious and gooey inside! We went midday on a Saturday and didn't have to wait in a long line either.

Right before the visit of Levain Bakery on Amsterdam Avenue, I overheard new expression about bakery shop, not far away from Levain. The couple, standing outside bakery. One person to partner, "Their pastries and muffins Don't turn me On". So talking about Levain, Lemon pie and Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate, (just like that, this is name) cookie are Turn me On. Big time. Beside those, they have more to try. So be ready for unforgeable experience.

What a cookie. Big, rich, multiple textures make for an indulgent treat. We stopped by to pick up some cookies for the first time and the staff was super patient and friendly with us. Tried the double chocolate chip, chocolate chip walnut, chocolate peanut butter, oatmeal raisin cookies. All of them were great except the double chocolate chip was just too rich for me. Their non cookie items are great too. We also tried their cinnamon brioche and banana chocolate chip bread which were both moist and flavorful. Their coffee is also high quality as well if you are looking for an espresso based drink. It's nutty and smooth. Took a box back home to Canada 🍁

Delicious pastries and amazing service! I personally tried their walnut sticky bun, and it was great. They had also sorts of huge cookies, breads, and cakes that all looked very delicious as well. The staff was extremely friendly and kind towards the customers. Just a side note- at the time we visited, they were only letting 10 customers inside at a time due to covid, so there may be a line when you arrive. However, it moves quickly so it should not be a problem. Would highly reccomend for a quick coffee stop and a pastry!

What a cookie! The greatest ones I've tasted so far! My absolute fave is the chocolate peanut butter ones (even though I don't usually like peanut butter!). Would def recommend these, worth every cent.

Honestly I don't even think it can be called a cookie. It's more like a cookie-brownie fusion because it is THICC. This is my go-to snack during cheat days. Sometimes I'd forego eating lunch altogether just so I can save the calories for this monstrosity of a cookie lol. It's the best! Must try! Get the double chocolate chip cookie or the chocolate chip walnut cookies - they are the best! Third ranked cookie would be dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookie! The oatmeal cookies are really sugary sweet and missing something IMO. Listen everyone talked up these cookies and for good reason. Went this week of New Year to American Natural Historical Museum and after there we planned for some cookies. Luckily, it was very close to the museum and we decided to eat. Ordered couple of cookies and that's damn worth to visit there .

I have ordered these online and they were good, BUT having these fresh from the oven was MIND-BLOWING! The cookie was fresh from the oven and they advised me to wait about 5 minutes before eating the cookie. It was fall apart gooey. I got the walnut chocolate chip cookie.

Levain pastries are divine. The chocolate walnut cookie is succulent. The rest looks delicious as well. It isn't cheap but it's worth it. This branch is nice because it's close to the museum and there wasn't a long queue.

Definitely my fav cookies in the city. I highly recommend the classic chocolate chips and walnuts and the one with chocolate and peanut butter. This place is always kind of empty so I recommend buying some cookies here if you're in a hurry. Otherwise I would go to one of the other stores since they are nicer.

Honestly this place is Devine pleasure. I am pleased to try this cookies and coffee. I drove 19 miles to get to this place, which was worth it. This bakery is delicious and the staff is friendly. I've found that there's a bar with excellent cookies where once you've crossed over, it's really hard to say that one cookie is much better than others that have crossed over that same bar. I'll call it the "cookies of excellence bar". Levain Bakery definitely is over the bar. The cookies are packed with rich chocolate chips, are filling and just yummy. Levain is simply an excellent place for baked goods. I'm pretty sure Charlie Hunnam would agree (picture is of him waiting out front of the bakery while his peeps got the goods).

*latest update: went by with a friend and a lady beside me recommended their walnut raisin bread. I was convinced and it turned out she was right✨ Have tried all of the flavors and visited again for their limited flavor cookie! They have the most classic, elegant, thick and soft cookie. I’ve always been on search to find cookies with creative toppings and ingredients, but nothing gets close to Levain’s original cookies. When served warm, these cookies will give you the satisfaction that no other can provide. Perfect ratio between the chocolate chips and the dough, crispy edges, and great texture. It’s been six years since my first visit, and I still love getting them whenever I’m in the city.

Still the #1 cookie on the planet. Someone that I tried this with thought it was to much chocolate but I disagree. I got a dozen cookies and it was pricy at $48 but worth every bite...worth every crumb 😀. We chopped up each cookie into quarters so we could all try a different type and most of us could not eat a full cookie. Delicious. A must try. I also learned later that Levain sells dough in supermarkets in the freezer isle. Will try that soon, when I'm not up for the 1.5 hour drive from Long Island. Also service was fantastic. Very friendly and served with a smile. Highly recommend.

This is one of the best bakeries in new York city. They are best known for their cookies- a HUMUNGOUS- 6 ounce cookie, a littlr crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside (the perfect balance between a cookie and cookie dough). My personal favorites are the chocolate chip walnut, and the dark chocolate chip cookies, but all of the options are absolutely delicious!

I wasn’t thrilled about spending $15 for a load of bread, a cookie, and a slice of banana chocolate cake. But then I lost the bag and felt as if a dear friend had passed. Then somehow I found my cookies and being reunited was one of the great joys of my life. Once found, I wasn’t going to risk losing them again so I had to eat it all on the spot... good decision. The walnut raisin bread was great. The cookie sublime. The banana bread was amazing. I can die now. Life is complete. Ok seriously. It was very good.

The best cookies in NYC and frankly that I've ever had. Very filling and delicious. The cookies are massive and always a goey, warm filling. Usually I get a few at a time, refrigerate any that I don't eat, and easily warm them up at home - just as good as right out of the oven! Chocolate chip walnut is my favorite, but I've also tried two-chip chocolate (second favorite), oatmeal raisin, and dark chocolate peanut butter - you can't go wrong! I've never tried it, but they also have gluten free options, coffee, and other pastries. I've been to Levain Bakery more times than I can count at their various locations and am never disappointed. Grab a cookie, walk and enjoy it in central park. You won't regret it and the line is always worth it!

Levain’s cookie is another ny classic. Its sugary, doughy, decadent, but always hits the spot when you crave that sugar bomb. The cookie is huge and super thick. You would probably feel guilty/trash if you finish the whole thing at once, but its very tempting to. Their other bakeries like scones and cakes are worth trying to. I got the coffee cinnamon cake, which was also really good. Everything is overly sweet, and def not diet-friendly.

These cookies are to die for. A nice, crusty exterior, but warm and gooey on the induct. The best of both worlds! Plus the servers are really friendly as well. Be sure to get a glass of milk or some coffee to wash it all down, you’re gonna need it. Though seating is limited and the lines may get long, these cookies are by far worth it!

Levain never disappoints! Below is the dark chocolate peanut butter cookie, which is nothing short of divine. All of the cookies are fantastic. We’ve also tried their baguettes and the chocolate chip brioche. The brioche was a fun change but the cookies are still #1. The staff is always so nice and yet super efficient. Even when there’s a line, the wait isn’t too bad. Levain is always a treat!

If I had more of a sweet tooth I may have enjoyed the iconic cookies more. Unfortunately they were far too dense and sweet for my taste. I prefer thin cookies that are crispy outside and chewy inside, but these more more like a cake/scone consistency. The dark chocolate cookie tasted like a straight up brownie which I wasn’t prepared for. Pass for me but I’m sure others would like it.

Came here for their famous cookies and left super happy! Cookies were crispy on the outside and moist and soft on the inside 👍 - just like how I like my cookies! Tip: get a coffee (black or with just a touch of cream) as it pairs well with the sweetness of the cookie. Beware of the long lines!

The best part of NYC is definitely the Levain cookies. No matter how long the line is, we always come here to get our fill and bring some home too! The chocolate chip and the double chocolate chip cookies are so good, but you can't go wrong with any of the options! I'm so glad they offer them in supermarkets around the country, but nothing beats a super fresh, chewy cookie from Levain. Note: Visited prior to Covid, so things may be a little different.

This will definitely be my new cookie place. I seriously would give this place more stars if I could. Their two chip cookie was the perfect cookie. It was crispy around the edges and super soft in the middle, 10/10. Their double chocolate chip cookie was awesome as well! Each cookie was $4. I also bought one of their adorable tote bags with the taxi on it. So cute :)

I had to stop by while I was in NYC. I got the chocolate chip walnut cookie and also a chocolate chip brioche. The cookie was amazing. Crunchy exterior, soft and chewy interior. Be warned though - it’s a decent size and very decadent so if you’re counting calories you may want to share. The brioche was quite good as well. Not as indulgent as the cookie. Also, the staff was very upbeat and friendly, which is apparently harder to come by in New York? (Put the pitchforks down, I’m just saying what I hear.)

I go every time I visit NYC! My favorite cookies ever. They taste so good when they’re freshly baked out of the oven. Make sure you go to their newer location to avoid lines. You must get the chocolate chip walnut! I can eat about 2-6 in one sitting! I’m a beast! LOL. My favorite! All the other cookies are just as delicious! I always bring home at least 6-12 cookies. I feeeze them right when I get home! Lol.

It was my first time here. I came to 74th street and a huge line outside made me even refuse this idea (as it was pretty cold day). Then i found another one on 77th street and went there. There was a line too, but at least inside and was moving fast. No space inside, if you'd like to sit and have a talk with your friend, definitely not the best place. Most people buy for to-go. Oatmeal raisin cookie was good, a lot of butter in the dough. But chocolate chip brioche was one big disappointment, cold, nothing special. Overall, I think I had overexpectations from this place. If u are a big lover of cookies, should try though. Update: warmed up brioche at home and it became tastier. So recommend it only warmed up, when chocolate is melted. Change from 3-star to 4-star

I believe this one is the 3rd shop or location. However, it is so close to the 1st shop on W74th Street. The shop is bigger: roomy for forming the line. More space to eat in the shop. A place that receives a lot of love for their cookies is Levain Bakery on 74th Street and Amsterdam. This is a tiny little place with a queue of awaiting customers, eager to pick up giant cookies for which Levain has achieved some fame. Opening hours are 9am to 7pm (Mon-Sat) and 9am to 7pm (Sun). We joined the queue outside the shop around 9.15am. There were around 5-6 people outside the shop. It moved at a fair pace as orders are fulfilled rather quickly. Inside, you find a tiny retail counter, wall and window counter and a few stools. Its quite crowded within so we, like most patrons, decided to buy and enjoy our cookie on the way to Central Park a few avenues east of Levain Bakery. Cookies are quite large and cost $4 each. We decided to try the Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip cookie. In short this was a richly flavoured chocolate sugar bomb! Tasted similar to Ghirardelli brownies but with traditional cookie form and soft, barely baked centre. We found the taste nice but too sweet and the texture too gooey for our liking. Would have preferred another few minutes in the oven at least. In the end, more a consequence of our personal tastes and preferences, the chocolate cookie wasn't not really for us! However, we were glad that we tried. No doubt others will very much enjoy what the cookies dished out here.

It is absolutely not hyperbole to say that this is absolutely the BEST chocolate chip cookie in NYC. Crispy on the outside, soft and gooey with chocolate on the inside; not too sweet, and the extra crunch from the walnuts complete this perfectly sized cookie. It probably helps that there is a consistent line out the door at all hours so that any cookie you get is basically fresh out the oven.

They are warm, soft and moisture. Oatmeal raisin is my favorite, am I am also a big fan of dark chocolate peanut butter. But why banana chocolate chip bread is always sold out?!

Came here on 9/29 with my girlfriend. She ordered the chocolate chip walnut cookie ($4), and I ordered the chocolate chip brioche ($3.75). Her cookie was comfortably chewy, with a mildly warm temperature. Extremely rich in chocolate chips and plentiful with walnuts. Altogether a very good cookie. My chocolate chip brioche, in the other hand, while stocked with chocolate chips, failed to distinguish itself from other bakeries. It was cold and the bread was relatively bland, though it was chock full of sugary delight. There is no seating available at the bakery, though there is a standing bar running along one wall. I would recommend sitting at the Dunkin Donuts next door (after, of course, purchasing a beverage to accompany your pastry). Expect there to be around a 5-10 minute line on weekend afternoons.

Can confirm: it’s a good cookie. The staff knew we were instagram pilgrims and gave us recommendations of what to try. We tried the chocolate chip and the chocolate peanut butter. Both were delicious. Crispy on the outside, then almost scone like, with a gooey center, and SO BIG. We came here after deciding the line outside the original bakery was too long. I recommend ordering a milk with the cookie!

We were in the neighborhood yesterday and wanted something sweet. I check my google maps and this place by far had the beat reviews. As you can see from the photos we were not alone. This line from other reviews is typical and the app indicated it was busy. Not to worry though, they were fast friendly and efficient. We were only gonna get one but opted for the oatmeal & chocolate chip walnut. It was HEAVEN. I would have tried the coffee but they were out of soy milk. If you are in the neighborhood this is a MUST stop. The price is worth EVERY mouth-watering bite.

Pricey cookies (~$4.50) but well worth it. Was more like a scone than a cookie. We had the oatmeal raisin fresh and it was delicious. Took home the peanut butter + chocolate and warmed it in the microwave for like 10 seconds, and had it with a glass of milk and it was bliss. I split it over two nights it was so big. We definitely recommend Levain and will be back again in the future!

I will start this with that I personally think Levain is overrated. They make a good cookie but not enough to warrant the lines (the price is a bit high top, comparable bakeries in NYC usually charge $1 less per cookie). However, they are fast and efficient at the store and the staff is very kind. I think there is something to be said about the service you receive and the fact that it's popular despite the price.

The outside is crunchy, inside cakey, almost crumbly. The sugar tastes almost like honey, and I think the oatmeal made it taste better texturally and flavour-wise. I usually go to the location on Frederick Douglas Ave. but happened to be near this location while running errands. It's a larger location and the staff is just as nice there. I was introducing my brother to Levain's super duper mega cookies 🍪. He had never heard of them before so I had to make the introductions. Everything was fresh and delicious. And the store was nice and clean. When we were leaving, a line started and was at least 10 people long. We had the perfect timing when we just walked right in.

We had heard that this bakery has the “best cookies in NYC”, so we walked the couple of blocks after we left the Museum of Natural History. We were not disappointed – the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip was my favorite, while the Chocolate Chip Walnut, Oatmeal Raisin, and Dark Chocolate Chip were so good that we decided to take some home. I would live off of Levain cookies if I could. Anytime anyone I know lives in the area/is visiting, I tell them they HAVE to go get cookies. The lines can be long, but they move quickly and are 100% worth the wait. I had a friend eat all four cookies in one evening (which he only sort of regretted), but I would probably suggest getting one for now and one for later. The cookies are better described as cookie mounds, and they are decadent. (I should add that their other pastries are just as fabulous; I like to pick up a muffin or some rolls for later when I go for my cookies).

We searched the area in order to find Levain Bakery after coming across it on many blog posts before visiting NYC. Once we found the street, it wasn't difficult to spot. The one with the queue out the door. We opted for the 'Oatmeal Raisin Cookie' and the 'Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie'. THEY WERE UNREAL. Warm, chewy and HUGE!!... Wish I was in NYC to have one now actually. Do not visit New York without sampling Levain Bakery cookies!

I didn't expect much from a cookie, but wow the cookies here are mindblowing! We tried the chocolate chip walnut and the oatmeal raisin. Thought the chocolate chip walnut was a bit too chocolatey, but I really loved the oatmeal raisin! Definitely worth the wait. For us, we waited about 20m on a Sunday afternoon. The line for this branch is mostly contained within the store, so you don't have to wait outside if you don't want to. The one on 74th is pretty small so the line goes outdoors. Would come back. In the future I'd like to try the dark chocolate ones!

Yes, TWICE. That should be all I have to say, it's the most perfect melty gooey chocolate cookie you can find. -Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Taste like an advanced Reese's peanut butter cup. GREAT TOO! Also, they have amazing customer service. I wanted to buy a T-shirt from there and the cashier helped me look into their inventory (in another room) several different times looking for the right one and right size, this was near closing time too! Highly recommended!! There will of course be a line...but it's well worth it. They have another location a couple blocks away, but the line there is longer I believe as that is their original location.

So to start I have to say the cookies are obviously staples of the New York bakery scene. They are wonderful flavorful and quite honestly a meal unto themselves. That said, I think beyond the cookies I have been quite underwhelmed by a variety of their other items. Particularly their breads and their coffee which was while not unpalatable quite banal which I’m some ways is worse. You don’t feel justified in throwing it away but it just doesn’t bring you any of the joy in life that eating should. Another problem is with the space they inhabit. No room for sitting and enjoying your baked goods. You are forced to stand off in the corner while the line of people hurriedly push their ways around you to get to where they want to go.

Why are there lines? I was on the UWS and decided to see what the fuss was about. I bought a baguette, a whole grain loaf and two cookies. The three stars is for the cookies. They were really good but way way way too big and fat. The bread, on the other hand, was one star - especially the baguette, which was tasteless and worse than most supermarket baguettes. No clue what the fuss is about.

At the original basement location a couple blocks away, there's always a long line. Here, it's always reasonable with the same food. Cookies, of course, are legendary quarter-pounders that we immediately divide into 4 pieces to avoid turning our bloodstreams into Willie Wonka's chocolate river. Why 5 stars you ask? Well here goes nothing! Lets talk about customer service first as this is hard to find in retail these days.(Ever get checked out at the register at Duane Read?) OK then you know what I mean. The staff are friendly, knowledgable about the products, fast, smiling, and just delightful. Gosh am I really saying this?Yes I am and it's totally true. OK, my all time favorites is the Whole Wheat Walnut Raisin Loaf. If it sounds good, hold on to your hat, its way better than that. It does not need spreads, toppings, jam, butter, nothing (I am not discouraging it) but even plain it is still the best bread ever. If you are not in the market for bread, no worries, it comes in the size of a muffin for $1.00 each. Worth way more in my opinion. Their baguettes made daily, heaven. The sourdough bread, round and as homemade as you could get in Tuscany. I cannot speak too much on the cookies as I generally don't eat them, but I believe the insane crowds are very much about their cookies. They look and I am told taste delicious. It simply is not just another bakery. The breads I mention above does not contain butter or oil. How do they make it taste that good.? I live on west 77th st, I no longer have to wait on line on 74th st, now I get to wait on line ( on wknds) right across the street from my apt. I love to cook and when bread is part of a meal, I run downstairs and across the street, & there it is, fresh delicious bread. All I can say is thank you Levin for knowing how make many of us very happy.

The line is long in both locations. The cookies are great. They are as good as cookies get. If you can afford cookies at that price, you might as well.
