Reviews of Bellegarde Bakery

The bread here is decent, I didn't try any pastries because all of them have some sort of dairy in it. The prices were quite high, and while I ate the entire baguette (yes, in one sitting) I was having a difficult time justifying spending that much money. Costco sells a pack of two baguettes for $4 that never disappoint. Given that this bakery adds sourdough into the baguettes, perhaps I expected it to taste more "sourdoughy". Nonetheless the bread tasted good. The sourdough sesame bun was a nice texture, but I would only suggest you getting that item if you really like sesame seeds... If you really want your sock blown off, try going to Levee Baking Co. They had vegan options and the bread and pastries I got make my mouth water thinking about it...

I'm obsessed w this worker owned bakery. Everything they make is excellent and they carry heritage and heirloom grains and flours. I had an old person cookie (date and apple) and it was as good as any chocolate chip monstrosity of my youth - and they have those too.

I visited specifically to finish a gift basket with some pastry options. They were super helpful as I didn't know what I was buying. I didn't realize they sold finished goods as well and will certainly be back. Service is outstanding!

If you’re new to Bellgarde Bakery, I encourage you to try all the products. Whether in person or purchasing online, you cannot go wrong. This is a high-quality bakery.
Thank you to all the wonderful people at Bellgarde Bakery for working through a pandemic, and doing the best possible job imaginable. I am so impressed with your flour that I order it all the way from New York State. I normally cut regular AP flour with some of your out of this world, best tasting flour, to achieve a wonderful loaf of bread, pasta, and other baked goods. I recently tried some of your macaroni and found it every bit as good as the flour you sell. I just wanted you to know how fortunate and grateful I am, for all of you at Bellgarde Bakery.

It was pretty easy to get here (by car) and parking was not difficult. We came for the bread, but we will definitely be back for the stone-ground flour.
The young man who served us was knowledgeable, helpful and friendly without being at all pushy, and the breads come in a pleasing, but not overwhelming, variety.
The Baguette we bought had a great colour and crackle to the crust with a really nice texture and 'chew' to the bread - I aspire to be able to bake bread this good! We also bought a fig and pecan Couronne which was quite different, but equally excellent and it had a really pleasant, slightly sweet, lingering aftertaste.
I have a new favourite bakery!

I’ve always thought highly of Bellegarde bakery having had their bread at restaurants around town and often buying a loaf at the grocery store. The quality never ceases to amaze me.
We went to the bakery and retail store, and wow. We were greeted warmly by the employees and even the owner. He helped us pick out some flours for my own home baking. He also spent time chatting with us about the bakery from the milling process to where he sources grain from. Really amazing. Highly recommend for the quality of product and the amazing customer service. Will always support this company.

This is hands down the best bread I’ve ever had in my life, and I’ve had bread from all over the world. The quality of ingredients and baking is unparalleled. Worth every penny.

Great food, good atmosphere, and friendly service. I’m glad they are in our neighborhood.

Great neighborhood bakery. Their country batard was so good that my dog stole the last few pieces pieces of my loaf a couple weeks back and I am still longing for the final bites I will never get to cherish 😬 "happy hour" drinks from 12-2p make this a great place to stop by in the early afternoon for a coffee or tea. It's a bit expensive, but the flavors and effort they put into their quality products shows and is very much worth it if you cherish an expert baked treat, IMO.

Best sourdough bread in New Orleans, and their pastries are top notch too -- don't miss the morning buns! Staff is friendly and the space is beautiful! -- Edited to say nine months later that the staff used to be friendly but the last four times I've gone, including today, it's been the same woman at the counter and she has been decidedly *not* friendly. No smile, no greeting. It's a bummer.

This bakery sells the best of the best. Everything they have is delicious, from the pastries and breads, to their pastas, or if you’re lucky enough to get one of their amazing pizzas you’ll be blown away; not to mention all the local artisans for whom’s products they sell! If you’re a home baker they have everything you need too, including fresh milled flours. And if you have a chance to take a baking class there, DO IT!!! You’ll learn so much and take home such a bounty you’ll be giving some to everyone you know. They were so wonderful and conscientious and provided NOLA all our baked and baking needs during the early days of the pandemic. When they closed for a bit during the pandemic everyone was devastated, so now that they’ve been able to reopen, it’s imperative to support wonderful small businesses and their lovely owner and employees who make an impeccable product!!

I went to get their grits. I don't know where else to get grits of their quality. They are the best. So while I was there I picked up a croissant for lunch. OMG It was so good. It's a good thing I don't live close to this place.

There is a reason why every morsel of food that comes out of Bellegarde is a treasure. The team who bake there are purists who work from the heart. The products are locally sourced when possible. The owner has such passion for his craft. Its like entering a sculptor’s studio but you get to eat the art. Pure joy!

After being a fan of Bellegarde bakery for years, I was was recently able to participate in a class at the bakery. It was a very informative experience. Graison Gill is a exceptional baker, sharing a wealth of knowledge, inspiration and hope for the future during the two evening class. Graisons’ passion for the art of baking with fresh grains and educating the community is self evident after spending a few hours in the bakery.

I don’t live in New Orleans but when I visit I go to Bellegarde Bakery and stock up on items. I’m a home baker and Bellegarde inspires me! ( and the cardamom strawberry preserves are amazing, too! Hope that returns 🤞) …

If you are on a gluten-free diet, Bellegarde’s bread and pastries will make you change your ways!

You must visit this place. There is a reason all the best restaurants in New Orleans get their bread from Bellegarde!
My gf and I walked in to check out their retail shop. After the owner (Graison) brought out a fresh sample of the best hot brioche I’ve ever tasted, he then offered to take us back to show us their stone mills. He was so gracious with his time and answered a bunch of our questions about the bakery.
We went back to the retail shop area and bought fresh pasta, chocolate and fig bread, and flour my gf is going to use at home to bake fresh sourdough.
This is the kind of local business that knows how to scale their production without losing any of their high standards and quality!

I love Bellegarde! They have the most amazing fresh bread and pastries, and I’m so excited to try the pizza and coffee! The epis are a perfect addition to any charcuterie board or family meal.

Incredible bakery. Everyone is so friendly. All of their products are nutritional and tasty. You can order online and pick up your order which is very convenient. They support local farmers and local businesses so they have my support!

It is in a real sense amazing to me that Bellegarde exists because I wouldn't think you could find enough people in New Orleans to support a 1 kilo bag of flour for $10. But lo, it exists, and if you want the best flour $10 can buy, and the best bread in the city, here it is.

The breads are beyond anything in the city and the heirloom grits and pasta are amazing. This is food with ingredients you cannot find anywhere else. Their commitment to bringing truly whole foods to the city is a gift. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I’m so happy to have learned about them from the WWL TV morning show.
David Swindler
Amazing fresh breads and heirloom grains you can bake with. Will be back again soon!

Honestly a great experience. Superb bread and great people. Imaginative baking and fresh, healthy, locally-sourced ingredients. Just a great artisan bakery. Highly recommended.
Nayelly Barrios
The most perfect and beautiful bakery! Their baguettes are perfection, and my favorite sweet pastry here is the date cookie.
Amelia Robert
I ordered a box of pasta from Bellegrade for one of my friends at the beginning of New Orleans' shelter in place order. The pasta arrived quickly, and I was kept informed throughout the shipping process. And of course, the pasta was delicious when it arrived!
Jordan Ferrage
Super nice people with great products. Cute little place that was easy to get to. They helped me out with some sourdough starter here. Don't sleep on this gem. Look forward to returning

I think when I finally get to Paris I will be disappointed in their baguettes, because I can't imagine how they can be any better than Bellegarde's!!! Best bakery in the world hands-down.

2 bakeries in New Orleans are fighting for my utmost attention. Bellegarde is #1. All there breads are delicious.
Marc Hodge
Great bakery focused on integrity of ingredients. Fresh milled organic flour is alive and flavorful and it comes through in the final product.
Nathan Schwartz
Being French, this is the best baguette in town and probably in the US to my knowledge.
However, more than $6 for a baguette is absolutely outrageous.
Stu Schwadron
Unbelievable quality, texture and variety. True craftsman. Follow them on IG and then make sure and visit when your in New Orleans. I met them thru Starchefs and they truly are.
Gina Santora
Every experience here is wonderful. Bakery itself is gorgeous, staff is friendly and its bread is simply the best NOLA has to offer.
San Dasha
Definitely the best bakery in New Orleans. Likely the best bakery in the Gulf South. Probably the best bakery anywhere.
