Reviews of Ayu Bakehouse
really enjoyed Ayu! the sandwiches were delicious and the bread was so fresh. the lattes were also great quality. it’s a nice and easy walk from my place. with great weather we enjoyed their outdoor seating options as well.
Pastries are amazing, almost too pretty to eat and actually tasty. We tried the mushroom cheese pastry and the parm chive biscuit. Really came here to try the iced melon matcha latte which was nice and creamy, wish there was more latte and melon flavor with less ice. Baguettes seemed popular among locals. Few nice tables outside and some inside as well. Service was polite and efficient. Picturesque streets all around.
As a gluten free person I really love this cafe. They have several gluten free items on the menu that range from savory, sweet, and hot and cold. If you can eat wheat this place is even better. Overall the vibe is peaceful, warm, and hip. Definitely recommend. They make a delicious matcha oat latte too!
The boudin boy with chili oil is something I’m going to be thinking about for a long time. Enjoy the free smells. Top notch bakery, I love this place.
I’m French and really picky so you can trust me when I say this is the real deal! Hands down best bakery in New Orleans. I’m so happy they open! I highly recommend.
After visiting the famous Tartine in California, I've been craving for delicious pastries & bread. Let me be the first to say that Ayu does NOT disappoint. You walk into this place and the smell of bread is just wow.
We ordered a couple of different things to try: 1 loaf of Sourdough, 2 Kaya buns, 2 Cinnamon Rolls, 2 Pecan Knots. Everyone should stop by and try it out.
Heads up, if you get there early, you may have to wait for some good. But I prefer have the freshness, so I didn't mind :)

The best bakery I’ve ever been to. Both the savory egg items and sweet pastries are unparalleled. Do not miss the egg sandwiches, chocolate babka knots and cinnamon rolls.
What a delightful place! Try the Hot Mallow. A yummy way to make hot cocoa with chocolate marshmallow
I had been wanting to stop by for a few weeks, and finally got in 15 minutes before they closed on Monday. They were still well stocked, excellent customer service from George who has only been there for a few weeks! On top of the great decor, great selection, and great customer service, the pastries were delicious. I especially loved the blood orange tart. I will bring all my out of town visitors here.
Eat here as soon as you can. Amazing baked goods, egg sandwiches and the coffee is extremely good. This place does everything it does extremely well. Comparable to the best places I have been in Chicago, NYC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Seattle, Portland OR and Portland ME, Valencia, Bilbao, Barcelona, Granada... yeah, its that good.
Must go to Coffee spot. Beautiful atmosphere and great Coffee. Try one of their fresh baked sandwiches
Amazing bakery and coffee concept. Wonderful addition to the French Quarter. As a Parisian, I only miss a nice muesli bread with dried fruit and nuts option. That would make this place perfect.
All bake goods look great. I stopped just for a tea (which was excellent), but I just wanted to try everything else they have. When I back to New Orleans, I will definitely return here to try their bake goods.
Healing my partner's hangover with their muffuletta break sticks and chive&parm biscuits. Quite successfully I might add. The biscuits were rich and cheesy but I gotta say I loved the bread sticks even more. I got two of each, unfortunately the other bread stick was a bit burnt/charred which affected the flavor but the other one was perfect. The cashier forgot to add drinks to my bill, no biggie, paid them separately.
Been back four times in 2 weeks! New addiction. Get the sandwich on crusty french baguette for no regrets. Chocolate babka knot a nice follow up. Take it to park across the street for a nice picnic lunch.
I had coffee and a croissant.
Such a treat to have this bakery open up in the area! Love a good croissant! Fresh , flaky and tasty. Everything in there looked good .
The ambiance is warm and inviting. No WiFi; just a heads up if you’re looking to work remote.
Nice little place. My husband enjoyed his Muffuletta stick, but the chocolate babka knot had a weird aftertaste, almost like it had Splenda in it instead of sugar. My iced latte was okay, but too milky, as they have no skimmed milk. Street parking was available, but is not free, so watch out.
Do not miss this hidden gem! The Croissants are flaky and buttery, the Shroom Booms are amazing - everything I tried was delicious and perfectly baked. The coffee bar was also worth our detour for a very well extracted espresso - rich and aromatic.
I am obsessed with their muffuletta stick! Also had the chocolate babka which was amazing and a very tasty jalapeño cornbread cookie. Paired them with one of the best cappuccinos I’ve ever tasted! Cannot wait to go back and try their Pavlova!
While visiting from out of town I stumbled upon this gem, loved it so much I came back the next day as well. Great Americanos, and the sandwiches are amazing. Lots of good veggie options too.
I have a new bakery crush. The chocolate and Satsuma cream croissants brought me to my knees; so perfect in flavor and texture. The espresso latte was immaculate; every swallow a balanced and buttery mouthfeel. Bakehouse makes me forget about all those other bakeries I had been flirting with. I am fantasizing about my next visit; my breath steaming-up the pastry case, skin flushed and heart racing over which to choose next…
I have my eyes on that long rod of sexy gluten called The Muffuletta Breadstick. Ayu! Ayu! Ayu!
The service was stellar. Beautiful experience. Overwhelming satisfaction.
P.S. Muffins would be a lovely addition to the menagerie of the patisserie.
After trying multiple places serving French patisseries.... Finally in NOLA a nice coffee and croissant is available. The best we had.
Very impressive. Great selection and friendly staff.
Food was delicious, had a cup of coffee, I found it a bit light for my taste as did my GF, but what all changed was the food and coffee paired perfectly, not over acidic or to much flavor... I really truly enjoyed the place..
Our go-to breakfast place when we were in NOLA. Both the baked goods and coffee were delicious. They had many flavor that were surprinsing for us, as the jalapeno cornbread cookie which was insane!
Would come back 100 times for the Shroom Boom! Such delicious and unique pastries and good coffee. Also a beautiful space!
You're not going to find a better baguette or pain au chocolat in this city... And somehow it's cheaper than the places you would find one that could rival them. I don't know of a better litmus test for a bakery. They could sell them out of a dumpster in the alley and still get 5 stars.
But they're... Not a dumpster in an alley, they're a clean, spacious, outrageously pleasant bakery with a great neighborhood feel despite the proximity to the bustle of Frenchmen. They've quickly become an indispensable part of my week.
Cozy and adorable. All the pastries are phenomenal. The muffuletta stick is everything you need. The coffee is strong and correct.
So delicious! I bought a few items for us to try such as their baguette, frittata, sausage roll and cornbread jalapeno cookie. Each item was super delicious! Even the coffee was yummy! Super pretty bakery with outside seating - what a fun addition to the area.
Very good pastries and atmosphere. Coffee is OK
Finally a great bakery back in the Quarter/Marigny!!! I took a walk from my shop on Decatur this morning and got a sweet selection, Boudin boy, cornbread and jalapeño cookie, redbean roll and veggie frittata!!! All so delicious, worth the walk!! I'll be back!!
Very cute bakery and coffee shop on the corner of Frenchman and Dauphine at Washington Square. Uses Hey! Coffee and pastries are good. A little indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. Will definitely come again.
Beautiful build out of such a great spot. The space is warm and inviting with outside seating too! The baked goods are amazing and the prices are reasonable. You can watch the production, which just proves it’s better to buy it than make it yourself. Love the muffulettas!
Absolutely incredible pastries on par with the bakeries in France. Their shroom boom is an absolute must!
Everything I have tried has been delicious. Boudin boy is a must. Friendly staff. My new go to bakery.
Coffee is great & pastries delicious and fresh. I would definitely recommend!
I had matched tea at Ayu one Sunday. It is the best I had because it was not over sweetened like a famous coffee shops chain does it. Kudos Ayu.
Delicious. Egg sandwich on an everything roll. Lovely place. Very friendly staff.
The croissants are so good!!!! Truly amazing, so well-laminated and perfectly flakey and then baked to perfection. Very refined croissant experience I haven't had elsewhere in the city. Special!!
So thrilled to see something new in this wonderful and too long vacant location!
Lovely staff and AMAZING baked goods! The Muffaletta Breadsticks are DELICIOUS!! The Boudin Boy pastry is yummy too!! Great outdoor seating or get it to go and sit across the street in Washington Square Park! Welcome to the neighborhood!! 😎😍😎😍😎
Amazing pastries !
The pastries are so delicious and so are their coffee. Such a cute little neighborhood bakery that are a must spot to visit.
I got the parm and chive biscuits, a loaf of tomato sourdough, and a matcha latte. I'm going to be dreaming about those biscuits for the rest of the year. The latte could have had more matcha in it, but it was lovely all the same.
The inside is bright, clean, and very pleasant, and the staff were all kind and helpful!
Stopped in around noon on Sunday ordered a bit of everything.
-boudin (&egg) boy {filled inside puff pastry}
-the Frenchman {sandwich on perfectly chewy/crusty/light baguette}
-Chocolate babka {exactly the right ratio of chocolate:bread}
-Kaya bun (tasty and light, but needed more of the pandan/coconut milk “jam” on the inside)
-Blood Orange tart (like the perfect key lime, but made with blood oranges instead.
Loved everything!! Can’t wait to make my way through the rest of their menu!!!
BEWARE! The baked goods at this shop are TOO GOOD. Like, invent a new ratings system good.
Sliced creole tomato sourdough was excellent for a homemade sandwich. Great coffee too.
Great spot for a snack and coffee, the iced latte may have literally saved my life touring around the area, haha. We’ll be back next visit!
Great new addition to the edge of Frenchman. Had a matcha latte and a boudin egg croissant. Delicious..a must stop if you are in the area.
You can tell a lot of attention to detail has been paid to both the loaves and the vibes of this little bakery. Walker and Julia made sure we felt welcome! Neighborhood classic!
Stunningly good bread, but I go for 'the Frenchman' sandwich. Perfection. I'd give it 6 stars if I could...
Love Ayu! Had a cappuccino and the Kaya roll this morning - total heaven.
Multigenerational crowd enjoying creative and delicious food and coffee made and served by passionate and professional people with joie de vivre.
A new business that’s breathing new life into a corner and block of a city by attracting people to walk from nearby and sit outside or in the park.
If you love food, coffee, and cities, visit this place and enjoy life for a little while with neighbors and visitors.
Incredible spot with amazing pastries - pain au chocolat as good as France, no lie
Thanks for the water bowl! We use it almost daily on our morning walks. 2 paws up 🐾 …
The cinnamon roll and the mushroom & Gruyere were outstanding. Polite staff and everything looks clean.
Pastries are amazing. Great for stop and grab something for walk in French street
I am french and picky about croissants . These are the real thing.

My new go to bakery
this bread slaps
We're so glad that this cafe was so close. We stopped in for a coffee and pastry nearly every day. Loved their king cake and cheesy chive biscuit.
Delicious, creative, and designed for a glossy magazine. Take a break from the hustle and bustle and go try this out. Fav: Parm and chive scone and anything babka-esque
Some of the best pastries I've ever had. I've visited months ago and still dreaming about them. The muffaletta twists are great, and chocolate babka!
Really good. Like, magic. Just needs another barista station so they can handle the foot traffic.
Great coffee, great baked goods great design, great vibe
