Reviews of Dave the Pie Guy
Dave the pie guy was a character and can make a solid key lime pie. Creamy and not overly key limey at the same time. There wasn't much selection since it was later in the day, but I would like to try some other pies in the future. There is construction going on right now and the roads blocked off so you will have to search the streets for parking. It was a very homey spot and sort of reminded me of a mix between my grandparents and a laid back hole in the wall in New York.
This is my happy place.
Dave is an incredible human who obviously cares deeply for his customers and his impeccable perfection in pie making!
As well as a dog friend! I was elated awhile back when I was walking home and he stopped me to ask if my pug would like some shaved turkey. Yes please!
My best friend and I habitually gift each other key lime pies~ ahem~the BEST key lime pies for our birthdays.
The whole ambiance of the place feels like a big hug.
I rave to my friends and family about everything Dave has to offer. He’s the best.
It is with great disappointment that the event for which I ordered Dave’s pies has been cancelled and I lost the opportunity to support his business, but I’m compelled to review none-the-less. Dave was a joy to work with over the phone, he detailed the pie flavors for me, cut options, display ideas, helped with numbers and even took in a large order with little notice. He is exactly the type of person I enjoy doing business with and who’s business I aim to support. I will look forward to tasting his pies when I find myself in Minneapolis and encourage you to do so ASAP. What a guy, what a pie!
Awesome turkey melt sandwich on cranberry bread and AMAZING carrot cake. Will definitely return, even at the risk of my waistline.
I've been pretty bad about documenting this so far, but I currently am trying to eat pie in every state within the United States. For MN, Dave The Pie Guy is who I chose to represent the entire state. Inside this quaint local shop one is greeted by the owner/operator and acquainted with multiple home-made pies. Since I am visiting the state of MN with my father and grandfather for Labor Day weekend we were able to sample several of Dave's recommendations with a slice of apple, key lime, French silk, and banana cream. The apple streusel pie was excellent with a feta crust and multiple apples used for the filling, it was truly a unique way to make apple pie. Anyone visiting out of state would do well to visit this hidden gem!
First of all, it's very hard to find pie in the twin cities, let alone a good one. You have to come here and talk to Dave! You can buy a pie by the slice or whole pies. They also have other food and drinks as well. Dave is one of the neatest guys you will meet. He sat down with my Mom and I and talked about cooking and baking for a half an hour. Fun to talk to a nice guy that loves what he does. He also fed not one, but three dogs when we were there. They come by on their walks and get some turkey and ham. The pies were much better than expected. Very little sugar, but fresh ingredients for great taste. We tried the strawberry cheesecake with five cheeses, the Dutch apple pie (award winner), and the triple berry pies and all were amazing. We took home more, including another award winner french silk pie I'm excited to try. You'll love everything here, including Dave. If you bring your dog by, they'll love Dave too!
Fantastic pies made with exceptional ingredients by a man with superb experience. He even showed me how little sugar he used which is unbelievable. You will be able to recognize his knowledge and experience when you get your pie!
Nicest, friendliest guy in the business and one of my local favorites to stop in to. Pies are old fashioned and delicious. Support this small business - we need more like this in our community.
Visited Dave to get a cheesecake for a personal celebration this evening. Dave is a charming and friendly person to meet. His bakery is very cozy and his cheesecake is DELICIOUS. The cheesecake is very light with a hint of citrus with not overpowering chocolate and caramel. I will definitely be returning to try the shepherds pie!
Had a short wait when we arrived, but this was mostly due to the fact that we arrived just Dave was opening the shop for the day. Very friendly service and the pie and coffee were quite good. I had the apple strudel pie which was like Grandma used to make. Ample seating in store and very nice atmosphere. I would recommend Dave's Pie to anyone looking for homemade pies.
Superb pies! That alone would make me want to come back but Dave is the reason we came in to begin with. He's a lovely person and always treats our dogs like they are the customers (they run our house so it only makes sense). Grand Avenue roads are being re-paved so it makes it tough for people to walk by so I absolutely recommend making a special trip over there to keep those pies baking.
Blown away by the pies from this place! All of them are made from scratch with fresh ingredients. When I first walked in I asked Dave which pies were the best and he said, “These are all award winning pies, they are all the best!” After buying a slice of every pie he had to offer (including the carrot cake), I was surprised that not a single one was disappointing. Pies aside, Dave is a great guy and I loved hearing about the history of his shop and listening to him explain what made his pies so unique. His passion for pies definitely shows through the quality of his food!
Amazing is all I can say! Dave has the best personality and the best pie and coffee in town. Please support this business. Don’t let the street closure’s stop you from visiting. Tell all of your friends to try a piece of pie.
So much to love about this place! Dave has perfected his pies to draw out the sweetness from the fruit vs relying on added sugars. The last few times I have picked up a pie that I had ordered, he timed it so they were fresh out of the oven. If you call, he will tailor make pies for you. We just did a peach, strawberry, blueberry pie, which I highly recommend. I also love how he uses a mix of sweet and tart cherries in his cherry pie. Dave knows his pie and takes great pride in his craft!
Fantastic pies and even better service. We stopped here for tea and were quite impressed with the staff, the menu, and the food and drinks we ultimately ended up eating. Definitely stop by if you are in the area.
Amazing pies!! Great friendly personalities when you walk through the door! Dave went above and beyond to make sure everyone had what they needed and was enjoying their pies! -he made sure you enjoyed your pies 😁 definitely will be going back. Worth the drive!! …
Dave the Pie Guy is a hoot! The pie is outstanding - if you are in the area stop in you will not be disappointed.
Absolutely loved this cute, quaint little pie shop. We stopped in after passing by and got some soups and a tuna melt. The food was amazing and the pies were out of this world. Will definitely be coming back. It was so nice chatting with Dave as well.
This is by far the best pie in the twin cities. It's not overly sweet, and every pie is texturally perfect.
Dave is a total character worth meeting, especially if you need a smile.
But seriously.
Run. Don't walk. To get this pie.
The pie is delicious. I could have eaten the whole cherry pie. Not overly sweet, and the ingredients are real. Definitely get some pies from Dave for any event. Dave was very friendly and is quite proud of his pies. Fun place.
Not just amazing pie. The soup and sandwich lunch is above and beyond what you'd expect.
We love this place! The pies are award winning and always amazing. Dave is such a friendly and family oriented guy, my kids love to visit and watch him make pies. The carrot cake is incredible and we love ordering it for birthdays.
Dave has the best pies I've found in the Twin Cities. The Key Lime and French Silk are not too sweet, creamy, wonderful concoctions.
He thoughtfully recycles and reuses glass pie plates, too!
I came to this store on accident really wanting coffee and was surprised at the delicious pies! I have the triple berry slice and an iced coffee all very delicious! The only reason I’m not giving a five star is that the staff did not wear any type of mask while making or serving the food. It would’ve been highly appreciated if they did.
Dave doesn't advertise that his pies are often gluten free and VERY low sugar, which is just an awesome extra bonus on top of his delicious, award winning pies.
Incidentally, I had the best omelette of my life here- completely unexpected discovery. All his savory food was outstanding, in fact. But be sure to go when Dave himself is actually cooking- his other staff members are pretty average chefs, while he is one of the best in Minnesota.
Incredible selection of award-winning pies, great breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu. Dave is a real character with an entertaining story to share, and he's seriously passionate about making the best pies imaginable. Get on his email list for an invite to his exclusive monthly dinner.
Quality quality quality pies! I had the banana creme and my gal had the French silk. We did the sharing thing and both of us loved both of the pies.
We ate at a table outside. Dave came out and talked to us explaining the ingredients and baking procedures. He was very fun and interesting to talk to.
This was our first visit and we will be sure to return again and again!
Best pies I have ever had! PLEASE DON'T TELL MY MOTHER!!!
Let's get this out the way now though: yes, the listed hours are not consistent. It can be frustrating when one has that hankering for the best pie in the state (which pie is the best pie? YOU DECIDE). You will forgive this once you meet Dave and have a pie. Well worth the wait. Now, onward to the praise!
Regarding fruit incorporated pies (apple, strawberry, the occasional blue berry black berry combo), one can actually taste the fruit; its natural sweetness, its satisfying level of tartness. Little to no added sugar!
His crusts are all homemade. Don't get me started on the French Silk Pie's crust. I want that in bowl for breakfast! Some of the pies have feta (yes, feta cheese) incorporated into the crust. I balked at first, but now I can't have an apple pie without it. Again, don't tell my mother.
I made a promise to myself, to try all the pies on his menu. I have yet to succeed for two reasons: I keep choosing to purchase a whole pie instead of a slice, making this venture more expensive than previously anticipated; he keeps making pies that are not on the menu. Not once have I had a bad pie. They are each unique and scrumptious. If my wallet and blood pressure will allow it, I will try all the pies! These are good problems to have in life.
The other menu options, like soup, chili, eggs, sandwiches, etc., are good traditional diner food. I stop here on occasion for a late lunch or early dinner, but have difficulty walking out without a pie in hand or in my belly.
Dave is an awesome guy who involves himself in the community, happy to chat with his customers, and prides himself on remembering your face and name. Stop in for good food and a good experience.
I've tried so many delicious desserts at Dave the pie guy and I've never been disappointed. The best French silk pie I've ever had. Also the best carrot cake I've ever tasted. I also absolutely love his chocolate chip cookies made with Ghirardelli chocolate ❤️
Dave welcomed us and gave the options for the afternoon which were a combination of cream pies and fruit pies. Not only was my choice of Strawberry Rhubarb warm just out of the oven, but it was the perfect blend of sweet and savory goodness for the grey afternoon. Topped with a dollap of whipped cream, it was gone too quickly but I have the memory. He also prided himself with his daily coffee brew which gave a boost of energy to explore the bookshop next door. I will be back and soon.
My child loves pie! We had been meaning to try this place out for awhile. Well worth the wait. Dave was kind and told us about each pie. My Child declared "Dave's is the best pie in the city". Hancrafted with love. We will be back!
Oh my goodness! This place is a gem and so is the owner! Had our first visit today , and we will be back!!! Amazing pie, fantastic conversation and laughter with the owner!
Enjoyed some Hot apple pie out of the oven while we were there, and took slices of French Silk, Banana Cream and Strawberry Cheesecake home :) Support this small and wonderful business!
Found this shop on a list of 'Best Pie in Minneapolis', and it did not disappoint! We tried the apple strudel and strawberry/rhubarb- they were phenomenal! We can't wait to come back and try more flavors! The service was excellent and the owners were very kind.
I stopped by the storefront to take a look while walking my dog, and Dave himself brought out a few slices of bacon for her. Needless to say, he’s got a customer for life out of her.
Haven’t actually had anything from here yet, but my dog would for sure rate 5/5.
First time here and ordered turtle cheese cake to eat here and got many items to go. Dave is very personable and friendly. 4 of us ate desserts there and he came and chatted with us telling us funny stories of his past. He is a great story teller. Will definitely come back for food and conversation.
This place might not look like much from the outside, but holy hell is it good!!!! I am not exaggerating when I say it was the BEST berry pie I have ever had. He also made my daughter some hot cocoa on the house. Dave is a sweetheart and the soup and desserts are delicious!!!!
Really good quiche best I ever had!!! And Dave is one of the most gracious kind and friendliest people you could possibly meet.! So many pies he is willing to take suggestions on what new price to make!! Highly recommended awesome place breakfast menu and soup of the day🙏 …
Everything about this place rocked! The menu options, the service, the homey atmosphere, and of course THE PIE! Dave clearly knows his pastries and people. He told us about his drive to make pies healthier by cutting sugar and replacing unhealthy fats (so you can eat more with less guilt!) My only concern is how I will resist going back every day.
Quaint little stop nestled in South Minneapolis but holy wow great pie. The wife and i wanted a little snack...ended up sharing 3 slices. More then that the coffee was just right and a local organic tea that had us staying longer just to enjoy another cup. We'll definitely be back for another slice!
Dave is a one of a kind guy and so are his pies! I've already been there 3 times since he has opened, having the French silk, apple streusel, and even his awesome chocolate chip cookies. Really looking forward to seeing what else he bakes up and trying more of his delicious creations.
Dave did such an incredible job with my sisters wedding at the University Club. The pies were incredible and our guests enjoyed being able to try different kinds. Such a fun alternative to a wedding cake, Dave blew us away!
Great place to get a pie, food & coffee. They also offer real cream. Fun atmosphere. Looking for something special? Call ahead to reserve a pie. Highly recommended. Carrot cake, pumpkin, apple, you name it Dave has it. Also a friendly guy. Enjoyed the service and the pies I've gotten from him.
Delicious pie. Creamy & zingy iced coffee. Fabulous atmosphere- and Dave is a great guy. He’s the real deal.
Stopped by last night and had a slice of pumpkin pie. Without a doubt, the best pumpkin pie I’ve eaten. It was slightly fluffy which gave it a creamy texture. The spice was perfect—you taste the fresh pumpkin but the spices give it a wonderful depth of flavor. (Not the flat flavor of a frozen pumpkin pie.) If you are looking for a special pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving, this pie will wow everyone over.
Ordered a berry pie from here and it was wonderful. Fresh and comes in a glass tin. If you are looking for pies in south Minneapolis Dave is the guy for you
A man with ingenuity and endless energy who makes actually the most incredible pies I've ever tasted. Came here with a 96 year old who said these pies were the best she'd ever tasted. Don't play yourself: eat these pies!
The name isn't descriptive enough; should be Dave the "most delizishnizz pies that does not taste like frozen pretend homemade" Pie Guy. I had blueberry and blackberry...pie...it TASTED like pie. If you go to those high end grocery stores including those that feature Amazon PRIME, the pies there taste like artificial flour with binders and preservatives. My dogs food has less artificial ingredients than the fancy-store-pies. Have Dave's pie and then tell me about - real crust, filling, sugar. Yum. Trust me when I say I know a real pie when I taste one. Many in TC area are Hostess pies. Frozen junk. Been there, tried em, including some big deal bakeries.
NOW, try Dave's pie. Yes. Pie. Drip coffee is pretty good. I also sampled apple. Slices of apple and goodness, not "apple pie juice" made out of sucrose, lactose and HFGS. It's real. Goodness.
If you want to walk away with a pie, plan ahead or cross your fingers. Pies are in demand. Order whole pies ahead. Any kind. Call in or drop off form. Remember great pies store does not start with "Baker's..." or "Perk...". They have pies. I'm sure alike the ones in the frozen "food" section at the grocery store.
Did I mention the pie was really good? And the service? Oh, they have a breakfast offering though I have not tried....yet.
THE BEST 🥧 IN TOWN. GREAT SERVICE, AND DAVE IS A GREAT GUY!! PLEASE GO SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS NOW AND YOUR TASTE BUDS WILL THANK YOU!! GOD BLESS! …
The Key Lime was amazing! Definitely coming back for more.
The pies are the best. Not too sweet and full of flavor. Dave is always hard working and pleasant to talk with. A great neighborhood place and with the drive for anything seeking something sweet
Delicious pies. Best pie place I've found in the city. Plus I think it's cool Dave, you know, the titular Pie Guy, was actually behind the counter every time I've been in. Thumbs up Dave the Pie Guy.
Our son made a 'day-before' request for a baked key lime pie for Dad who is fussy about his favorite pie. It was outstanding!
I went in for a simple & cheap breakfast and left with two delicious pies. Dave is a very charismatic guy that makes wonderful pies, just ask him to see his pie binder!
I picked up blackberry blueberry, key lime, strawberry rhubarb and french silk. All are great, I can't say enough about Daves. I highly recommend this business.
Great pies, great staff! Dave's the best!!! You won't go wrong with a pie from Dave's
When I asked people where can you get some good pie in the Cities, 90% of the time they say perkins. PERKINS!?! Unbelievable. They should have said "go see my friend, Dave, He's the pie guy"
This is THE BEST pie in the Twin Cities.
Dave is a great pie-guy and a comedian to boot! Worth a half hour to go talk with him. And YES, get one his pies. They are AMAZING!
Truly worth a stop. Owner is a very nice and personable. So many delicious treats everything is amazing and it shows his passion for making pies.
Met wonderful Dave and can’t wait to have the streusel Apple and cherry tomorrow for a bday celebration. Looking forward to many, many more pies from here! Yum!
We all love Dave the pie Guy. He has the best pies in all 50 states, and 7 countries.
Dave has great pies and he’s a nice, personable dude. He’s opened past closing to sell us pie. You won’t be disappointed.
The very very best Dave is great and his pies are wonderfulI I was truly blessed to find Dave the pie guy!!
Brownie Ganache was wonderful. Its a brownie wrapped in heaven:)
I just got the Mince Meat pie on 05/20/2017. It was very tasty.
Fantastic pies, great flavor! Hoping to see a great selection of gluten free options in the future!
Dave is such a great character! Such a talker because he loves his job so much. I'm sold on this joint for life! ❤️
Grilled cheese was ok but expensive for serving size. Cool atmosphere, clean, crayons and coloring books, looks fun, just a bit pricey.
Excellent service, the place is very local, and the food is great. Dave is super nice too!
Stopped for a piece of key lime pie. Such a small piece for the price and it didn't have a lime flavor. It had an aftertaste like it has been frozen a bit too long. Sadly disappointed.
Breakfast AND pie? Enjoyed everything about this place: low-key atmosphere, amazingly textured cheesecake, warm apple pie.. Definitely will be making return trips.
Had a warm welcome from one of the employees. They had warm cherry and pear pie that was fantastic! Really great shop. ❤️♥️
The only thing better than the amazing pie is the pie maker! Dave is a true gem. This is my new favorite spot!
Love this little gem of a pie shop. Whenever I'm in a pinch and need a dessert to bring to a function this is my go-to because of dependability, service and exquisiteness!
One of the best Sit down Café joints I'm from Shoreview I've ever been to the food there was divine and heavenly and sinful a fresh homemade Omlettte made in six minutes We ordered a Spinache omlettte with chesse never expected fresh from a Café that had just been there 6 weeks I guess they will have a lot of costumers we then later ordered a apple Strewtrasial pie that was made homemade from scratch everthing was made perfect it was made with feta chesse and its in a good niehoborhood next to my favorite shop present Moment the guy is Genuis
We all have a guilty pleasure when it comes to pies! Freshly made as well! Go in a pick your own favorite and don't forget to share!!
Dave is extremely friendly, the place has a great vibe and the pies are delicious. Highly recommended.
Pies are the best, not to sweet. All home-made. The owner is the best baker & host.
I love this place. Very cozy feel and pies are delicious. Not your regular dessert shop.
He was so warm and welcoming and the pies are to die for! We are very excited to go back for breakfast soon!!!!
Best pies ever! Dave uses secret ingredients to make his pies so unique!
Went in for lunch, got turned away because they were too busy making pies for Thanksgiving orders. Also they said they were not taking any more pie orders, why not hire extra help?
Bakers Square used to be my go-to pie place...
Bakers Square doesn't taste very good anymore, 5 stars for quality pie
In addition to amazing pies they are super friendly and cook up a great breakfast.
Awesome pies but $30 for a apple pie, just got a apple pie from Perkins for $12
OMG. This guy Dave has pie crust on lockdown. Beware of his comedy too. It will keep you coming back.
This is the single best cheesecake I have ever had. I ate it and heard the true name of God.
DAVE is THE BEST PIE CREATOR~BAKER in the WORLD!!! BEYOND SCRUMPTUOUS! Scrumptious?
Best place to get a pie the service was great and the owner takes time to talk with you. I will be going back again and again
That pie blew my mind. Loved talking to Dave to, will be back again ASAP. The mincemeat is where it's at!
Very good cheesecake and the French silk is also really good! Definitely worth a trip to.
Great breakfast sandwiches and amazing pies! Definitely try the French silk pie!
Great sandwiches and handmade pie. They also have a breakfast menu.
He's always telling me to do stand up comedy I said well it's better than sitcom
Fantastic pancakes. Great friendly service! You already know about the pie.
