Reviews of Amaranth Bakery & Café

This place was great and the food was absolutely delicious! The waitress was amazing and she was really attentive and positive. I will definitely be back.

I have to question, what do they add to their food ? Yet I dare not! Is it a misytical magical potion. For two weeks they close their doors. Where are they? When will they return? I will be there early in the morning knocking on those doors . Let me in! I can not breath, I can not sleep. I want my delicious everything bagels with cream cheese and coffee. Cozy, friendly writers are welcome . Best place int town💖
Yining Dai
High quality pastries at a super reasonable price. This is definitely a gem in Milwaukee.
casey miller
The nicest staff and easily the best bakery in the city.
Emerald Collier
This is honestly my favorite bakery in Milwaukee. When I lived in the area I frequented the Cafe often and the owner was ALWAYS so kind and conversational. Even with moving 30 minutes away, I still make it a point to visit if I'm in the area during business hours.
Their soup, salad, and bread combination NEVER fails. Tea is exceptional. And staff is always genuinely kind.
I can't wait to be bake in that part of the city so that I can get my amaranth fix.
Marizona S
this place is simply perfect. I can’t think of a better-tasting salad I’ve ever had (nor soup). the bread and shortbread are delightful and the french press coffee fresh and rich. come here next time you’re in the area!

Great Food! Very nice customer service too! Just a nice quiet place!

Moved to the area a year ago. Have eaten a lot of cinnamon rolls, hand pies, morning buns, etc, looking for the place I would go if I had peeps in town. Oh my goodness, I've finally found it. Amaranth was just the best for the pastry. The cinnamon roll, and kouign-amann. Just beautiful and full of goodness And thanks for bringing the joy David (owner) through conversation.
Dani Koehler
Delicious coffee, amazing soup, baked goods so tasty I could cry (the almond croissant is my all time fav). Plus the owners are super kind humans.
Maria Kuhn
Stopped by this morning! The worker was so nice and helpful- got two coffees and a variety of pastries- all were delicious but the berry turnover was TO DIE FOR. I couldn’t believe how addictive that crust was! Would definitely come back!

Great service. Great bakery selection made daily. Good soup and sandwiches. They even have mini donuts that are delicious. Great spot for meetings as well.

I was next door to buy candles so had to stop in. Their scones are the best! I brought home a cranberry chocolate scone that i will be dreaming about for weeks.

One of Milwaukee's best cafes. Their pastry is top notch, particularly the almond croissants and "butter bombs" (actually some royalty based name, but that's what I call em). They also have great bread, soups, salads, coffee, and other drinks.
The owners (who work there every day) are incredibly community oriented and it's always an enjoyable experience.

This bakery is located in the ghetto( for lack of a better word). I mentioned location so those who chose to visit will know they are in the right place. It is a very clean and well kept bakery. I visited on a late Saturday morning. I purchased everything that was available except brownies and cinnamon rolls. croissant, sandwich with cranberry chutney, open face brioche with toppings, key lime tart, scone and a few others I can't remember the name of. I was everything was pretty impressive. The tart had a delicious flaky Sable Breton crust with a sweet key lime filling. The scone was the best I had ever tasted not too dry or moist, just right. The bread served with the turkey and cranberry chutney was quit divine right amount of push back when squeezed, can't believe I didn't bring a loaf back home with me. If your'e in the Milwaukee area or live there do stop by and give this bakery a try.

These are some of the best baked goods (scone, breakfast roll, turnover) I've tasted. This charming cafe is a gem in Milwaukee.
Ray Forgianni
This one unique find. Freshly made bread & pastries, artisan sandwiches, coffee, etc. Sour dough breads. Small scale operation which makes it close to eating at someone's home. Good solid food. Very courteous owners. Clearly a local hangout. On street parking on Walnut, the in front. A gem.
Shirley Leatherwood-Garrett
I've been going to this bakery since 2009 after my mom suggested I go. I've been hooked ever since. They have the best soups in the city. The creativity of the soups, salads and desserts are exquisite. I love bringing people here because it is a hidden gem in the city of Milwaukee!
CJ Beau
Fresh salad and soup ingredients just pop with flavor. Favorite Bakery items disappeared quickly. Get there early. True community unfolding, supportive of the Arts, new local startups, cottage industries, cultural diversity. Worth the drive, won't disappoint.
Paul Runnoe
Lovely bakery in the heart of the city. Everything we had was delicious!
Daniel Accettura
Incredible European-inspired patisseries, breads, salads, soups and quiches. Set in (what looks like) a Victorian era home that has been converted into a business. Counter service and about 6 tables with seating for about 24 people. Get there early as they only make a limited amount of items per day and they often sell out. Run by a socially progressive, wife and husband team who have decided to apply their considerable talents to an economically challenged neighborhood.
Amber Joy Kostecki
This place is AWESOME! The coffee is great, the food is fantastic, and the owner is a compassionate, empathetic small business owner who totally cares about people and the neighborhood. I recommend 100 million percent!! 🤗 …
Steven Hunter
Great food food and food and the best customers! Everyone who comes here here is friendly - I have the best impromptu conversation here.
Jon Kuta
One of my favorite cafes in all of Milwaukee for a soup + sandwich! Menu rotates DAILY and is solely based on what fresh ingredients they have available. Refreshing, chill vibe to help escape the bustling city!
Debbie Jansen
Great fresh and unique food. Sat outside which was nice. Very crowded and they were out of sandwiches, which I hear they often are if you are later, which we were. Would have liked to try one, they sounded great.

Amaranth Bakery and Cafe is worth going out of your way to experience. The baked goods, soups and salads are ALL exceptionally yummy, and are made with fresh, healthy ingredients. As others have said, the scones are fabulous, as are the Brittany pastries, croissants, and rugala (rugelach?). The bread is delicious. I especially like the fig/fennel rye and the walnut bread. The soups and salads have never disappointed either! Stephanie and Dave, the owners, give back to the community in a variety of ways, and the casual cafe is always warm, cozy and inviting.
Dalila rollins
What a gem! We went there to try the pecan buns and even though they were sold out when we arrived, because the alternative were still delicious!!!! it was worth the stop! OMG the croissant filled with ham and gruyere was so flaky and cheesy. And the kouing amann was so flaky, buttery and sweet heaven. Will make sure to stop earlier next time on our next visit to Milwaukee.
Megan Thompson
I just want to say thank you. I pick up baked goods and soup and salads from you all the time and I can say with absolute certainty that is the best part of my day. So much love 💗 …

Fabulous bakery, AWESOME healthy food, and SCONES.... you have no idea what a scone should be until you eat theirs ... then you will never eat anyone elses!! and the soups.... off the chart great and tabbouleh. Im getting hungry just writing this.... every choice is a perfect one!
Lore Lisheron
Baked goods were a bit overdone. I had the misfortune to be behind a customer that bought the last half dozen scones, leaving only 1 kind that was not my favorite. Also a little pricey - pastries were $4 each.
Tjuna Eggson
