The cream is so so so delicious, tastes so fresh and delectable. Almond cookies, pork buns, lotus pastry, and cake were all exceptional. The taste and texture of the almond cookies are iconic and make great gifts for those out of state. The lotus pastry melts in your mouth and are 20% larger/taller than you often see in other bakeries. The char sui pork buns and pepperoni jalapeño buns are substantial and make an excellent alternative to bringing in donuts for coworkers. The cake sponge is on the drier side and balances the generous abundance of cream. Overall everything is delicious and the customer service is excellent

I grew up with my Aunt getting the Strawberry Cream Cakes (with Almonds) for every celebration possible. I moved away but while visiting I had to stop in! I love that they sell the slices especially since I fly out tomorrow. So fresh and delicious 😋 they have not changed a thing and I love it! ❤ Thank you Phoenix bakery for keeping traditions alive!

Cakes here are delicious but the line is crazy. Come during the week I'm told. Parking is limited. Order ahead. Must wear a mask. They limit how many people are inside.

The frosting was delicious and the strawberry’s were great. The flavor of the of the sponge cake was good as well. However, it was a bit dry. I usually buy tres leches cakes so maybe that’s why I found the cake dry.

Absolutely delicious. They are known for their sponge cake with strawberries, whipped cream, and almonds. They have plenty if you just walk in and they will write on it. However, if you need it without nuts you need to order ahead. They also have lots of other great pastries both sweet and savory. Parking can be tough so grab a meter as soon as you see one.

I was recommended this place by my aunt. Place has the best baked char siu bao ($3.95) I have had in a decades. Where I live the buns made there do not have that caramelization on top of the bun, nor do they put a significant amount of meat in them. These buns are stuffed fully. I was so excited about these that I order all they had on hand (18). Oh the birthday cakes look nice too. Please wait your turn inside. I am confirming at this time only five partons can be in the building.

As someone who grew up with cakes from Phoenix Bakery, I gotta say todays cake was definitely not the same quality. Cake was extremely dry and the cream seemed curdled. My experience here was not pleasant as well. One of the ladies working here seemed was very unfriendly and seemed bothered. I just hope I caught them on a bad day. I went to leave this comment on Yelp and saw a similar experience as mine just a few hours before my entrance. I will return and I am hoping this day was just a fluke.

I've been going here for more than 30 years. They have the BEST CAKES EVER. The other pastries are scrumptious as well. There's always the most friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, patient people working there and what they can do at the last minute is amazing. There's not much parking, so I just take the bus. Thank You

I really wanted to love the cake I bought but it was really really dry. The strawberries seemed like they were only cut in half which made it hard to slice and serve the cake. Also I wasn’t told that the phone number would be needed for collection. We had temporary phone numbers while on vacation and the woman was so rude to my husband and yelled at him for not knowing my number. Definitely won’t be going back. Update: The bakery has reached out and offered a full refund which was appreciated.

Great selection of sweet treats and a wonderful staff. They made sure headcount was reasonable and had a well thought out system for making sure the line moved quickly. Can’t wait to come back in September for their delightful moon cakes. Highly recommend the sesame balls and their infamous almond cookies.

This Baker is the best there is. No other truly can compare. I love the costumer service they are amazing. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. I been coming here many years and the taste doesn't change I love it. The pastries and are delicious there freshly made moshi that my kids love just mouth watering. There are many bakeries in LA’s Chinatown. But this one definitely stands out. The desert I bought was great, and the staff here are friendly. I had the red bean pastry and admittedly, it was a little dry, but it’s probably been sitting out for a few hours, so it gets a pass. The only reason why I’m not giving it 5 stars is because I only had one item. I’m sure everything tastes amazing, but until I’ve had more items, I can’t say if it deserves the 5 star rating or not. I’ll be back, don’t worry.

My grand niece was turning 4 in August. In April she put in her request for the strawberry cake. I got it for her. I wanted rainbow colors cuz she wanted a rainbow unicorn cake. The person who did the writing got it perfect. Of course my niece didn't know what it said. We read it to her and she said "can we eat it now"! Her younger brother wanted one of the roses. Strawberry cakes and sugar butterflies! This is a Chinatown institution. Stopped by after having dim sum with friends at Golden Dragon across the street. Now I don't have to get a whole strawberry cake; they have slices! Everything I got was $20...so worth it! I even got 1 lotus sesame ball & 2 red bean sesame balls...can't get this living in Glendale! Sometimes I have to go back home to my 'hood to feed my soul & enjoy childhood memories.

Love coming to this bakery! Been coming here for years, even though it's quite a drive, it's well worth it. Cakes are always made fresh and you can even preorder too. Parking is very limited though.

Delicious pastries. I ate the wintermelon pastry and the red bean sesame ball. The customer service is good. This place is about 15 minutes from Union Station. They also have ice cream mocha and other french style pastries.

Growing up in LA we would come to Chinatown often and most every time, my dad would buy us a delicious treat at this sweet staple! I stopped by this weekend and so happy to see that nothing has changed as far as their delicious pastries and those ALMOND cookies!!! Yumm!!! We had a slice of their classic strawberry cake (that cream, just as light and yummy as I remember) and of course the cookies. They had strict covid protocols fir the safety of all and the service was friendly and quick. Love this bakery!!!

Great cakes! Been coming here for special occasion cakes since I was a kid. Still family owned and ran. The cakes are always exceptional. If you have a special order better call it in advance to make sure they have what you need. I once went in asking for a cake and they had ran out. True story. Then the person behind the counter said all I have is one left but we put "Happy Birthday Mom," I literally bought it cause it was actually for my mom. Literally was meant to be. Love this place!

This last time I got a few slices of whatever they had available and I wasn't all that impressed. I'll be back but I would suggest getting a preorder cake.

What's old.. is what's new! As a child I remember the almond covered sides and the strawberries... On my bday cakes..(They sell mini cakes now) This was every family birthday cake... Forever. I now live in Colorado most of the time but everytime we're in town I have to return even if it's closed at times... Just to trigger them memories.. I'm in my mid 50s now and still show up for coffee and cake when ever possible... Try it!

I've been going to Phoenix Bakery for over 35 years. Great strawberry cakes. The fruit is fresh and the cake has a great taste. The almonds around the cake takes it to the next level. They sell cakes of all sizes at reasonable prices! In addition they sell pastries that are very tasty. If theres a line to enter believe me it's worth the wait. Only downside is parking. Be patient and ready to walk but after tasting the desserts here believe me it's well worth it.😉

Delicious! So yummy, I drove 2 hours to get it.... the kitchen is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays so if they sell out of goodies no luck. Eclairs are Fantastic and so is the sponge cake with strawberries and banana. Was not familiar with Phoenix Bakery but I reallllly wanted a strawberry cake for a birthday. We picked one up and we got to personalize it with icing which was a treat. It was eaten the next afternoon and was still so fresh and bouncy. The fresh strawberries and cream were delicious. The icing is also not overly sweet so you can eat more 😄 highly recommend

Always went to Hop Louie's first...was brokenhearted when I found out they closed...wish I had "stolen" a plate when last there with my kids...I'm sure they would have gave me one. After having recently moved to the area and driving by Phoenix Bakery a couple dozen times and noticing the line out the door, I knew what to say when my wife asked where I wanted my birthday cake from. The cake was AMAZING--not too sweet, with fresh fruit and light, airy cake. We also tried the almond cookies, which are super good as well. Highly recommend, just be prepared to wait in line, and good luck with parking!

Excellent customer service by young man, Latino, when ordering a cake. We arrived before 10:30 to pick up the cake but it wasn't ready since we said we'd pick it up at 11. This told us how fresh their cakes really are. Once it was ready, the lady brought it to the car. Awesome service and cake was delicious as always.

I have always loved Bakery! They are our go to bakery for all cake needs. When the old owners decided to retire, our family was crushed and tried several other places for special occasions. NOWHERE came close to our beloved Bakery. When we heard new owners took over, I was a little nervous they wouldn't be the same bakery we have loved for years. Boy was I wrong! We have ordered 2 cakes now from them and both flavors were incredible! I even dare say they may be a bit tastier than the old owners. They are a must try! I love Phoenix bakery. Been coming here since I was a kid for the cakes but many of thier other pastries are delicious as well. They make the best strawberry cake with whipped cream icing I've ever had. The cake is not too sweet, and it's incredibly light, and moist. I'd recommended it to anyone who's looking for a cake that isn't covered with heavy icing. I also suggest you pick up a few butterflies as they are a wonderful simple sweet.

I had heard about this place and how it had the best desserts in Chinatown so I decided to come and visit. They had so many options, including flavors and styles I normally don't find in other bakeries!! My suggested option is the napoleon! It's creamy, not too sweet, just right and good to share for two people! Also, the people here are very nice! They even called me by my name and asked me if everything was okay! There were lots of smiles and friendly greetings and goodbyes. I definitely recommend this place and its good for your budget too!

Any time I find myself driving by Chinatown, I stop by a bakery to grab some goodies that I grew up enjoying. Today I stopped by one of my favorites and they didn't have much. Things are still a little out of order a few weeks removed from the Corona virus Pandemic. Leaving empty handed I felt defeated and disappointed. I quickly scanned the area and saw Phoenix Bakery. I remember going to this bakery as a kid so I thought I would give it a try. There was a small line outside, so I quickly took my place and patiently waited. About 5 minutes layer I entered and ordered my favorite Strawberry cake. I paid and left quickly and took my prize home. I walked in and my wife's eyes eagerly looked directly at my cake and she sprung out if her chair as if the devil poked her behind with his pitchfork. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed the cake that instantly brought me back to a time in my life when things were a lot easier. My wife was very happy with my offerings and I got a nice pat on my head. As the old saying goes, Happy wife...Happy life!

This Bakery has been around for generations. They are great at what they do. The sweets are amazing. My wife loved then so much as a kid that I drove 1.5 hours to get my wife's Bday cake here. She said their signature Strawberry Whipped Cream cake is just as good as she remembered.

So happy we chose to go with Phoenix Bakery for our wedding cake. We shopped around different bakeries and were even surprised by the arrogance of one company (The Butter End). But we did one tasting with Phoenix Bakery and that was it! They were the best priced for the best tasting cake, so why go elsewhere? On top of that the owner, Youlen, personally came out to explain everything to us. On the end we went with their strawberry sponge cake. On the night everyone complimented the cake. You'll have to decorate the cake yourself, but we had a great florist so it turned out beautifully. Their other Chinese baked goods are also amazing, and we served those up too. Highly recommended!

The bakery is clean the staff is nice. I just felt like they need a covering outside to protect ppl from standing in direct sun. I know there are new rules due to the pandemic but they need to be a little more mindful about the customers. There were older ppl standing in line and the temperature was very hot that could cause problems.

Went in the bakery not knowing what to get , I had only had the strawberry shortcake and I knew for sure that I would be happy if they had one slice but to my surprise they had a wall of them at almost 5pm on a Sunday!! So I got a few slices of the shortcake and found out that the cookies and custard pies are good too.. So to some up why I gave 5 stars is the selections and the customer service is really good!!

hoenix Bakery is an old school institution in the Chinatown area. It's one of my family' favorite bakeries for cakes because of its vanilla or chocolate strawberry cakes. They're not big into sweets, so having a soft fluffy, moist cake that isn't overly sweet is perfect for their taste buds. What I also like about this place is that they have so many sizes to accommodate all sorts of group sizes. You can get a whole cake that is 6" to a massive cake that can feed more than 20. If you have specific requests, make sure you call ahead because they might need a day or two to customize your cake. Parking: Tiny lot that fits a couple of cars and metered street parking in front on Broadway.

My life is a continuous string of excuses to justify getting the Strawberry Cake from Phoenix Bakery. I’m going to have to move closer some day or see about franchising options. It’s that good. Had the Lotus pastry and it was great and very sweet. This bakery is a local establishment that's been historically in Chinatown since 1938. 80 years in business and still strong as ever. I remember going to this bakery as a kid and it brought back so many memories and nostalgic feels. Overall I would recommend coming here just for the history and the baked goods.

Went on a journey to the Phoenix Bakery from way out her in San Bernardino..Sheeesh what a drive but at least pandemic traffic was light .. i ordered ahead a few days in advance to make sure my birthday cake was reserved as they ask on their website..On the way out there with nothing but my thoughts to keep me company, I had memories of celebrating birthdays with this cake at my nanas house not far away In Lincoln Heights.. this cake hasn't changed since I was a kid and now at 47 I'm here for my birthday cake again and again it was just as delicious as the first time I had it as a boy..
