I really wanted to like this place but I was very disappointed with my shave ice. I got the strawberry dream and then ice was lacking in flavor. Once I ate the outer most layer of ice, it just tasted like ice. I ate the toppings (ice cream, mochi, and strawberries) and tossed the rest. My dining companions got the classic rainbow and tropical dream and we're really happy with theirs so I think I had bad luck and didn't get enough syrup. The staff was friendly and there is plenty of parking and outdoor seating with a bathroom. So the location is a very convenient stop but I would not recommend the shave ice based on what I had.

One of the many places we went to for shaved iced while I'm Oahu and this was up there in terms of deliciousness. We got the regular sized shaved iced bowl and it was plenty to share between two people however I could have easily eaten a bowl by myself. There were many toppings to choose from. Protip: make sure to add a scoop of ice cream to it! There is no indoor dining or outdoor seating at the moment however we did find a little area a couple stores down with plenty of seating. There's also plenty of parking as it is located in a fairly big shopping plaza.

The yummiest snow cone shop. It really is the house of Pure Aloha. Everyone was super friendly! We ended up getting what the recommended we try and wow. Was it amazing. I loved it. Very happy we came here. It's a little away from the huge tourist area but I highly recommend you make the drive. So much yummier than the tourist traps close to the hotels.

My brother and his kids went here literally 4 times during his vacation. My family had some trouble trying to get some shaved ice just because the open hours seemed to be different from what's posted on yelp. We came once and they were already closed at 6 and another time we came at 12:30pm and they weren't open yet. Finally, we were able to catch some shaved ice. We actually went here twice. The kids love it. It was flavorful.

I can't even express how perfect this place is. I've been eating their shave ice for years and I've never had something here that I didn't like. The employees are always helpful and pleasant, and you can tell they put the effort in to make sure the product they serve you is perfect. They add simple touches that they don't need to, but that make the dish look (and sometimes taste) better. I would absolutely recommend this shave ice spot, and I take visitors here every time I have them 🙂 The store is currently undergoing renovations, so you order at the storefront and they call your name out to come pick up your order. It didn't take us more than a couple minutes to receive our order. So good.

Great place to get your shave ice on. Plenty of great flavors, ice cream topping was a great vanilla bean ice cream. Service was pretty fast too, and the people there we very friendly. I had the watermelon with strawberry with the ice cream topping. Very reasonably priced compared to all the shave ice places on the island.

We tried a number of shave ice locations on multiple islands before coming to Uncle Clay's. We knew this was a "must" after seeing him featured on Dining on a Dime. What sets this place apart from other shave ice vendors is the syrup. You can really taste the difference with the natural flavours, rather than the typical high fructose corn syrup. The tahitian vanilla ice cream on top was also unreal.

I loved the shaved ice here. Usually I don’t care for shaved ice but this had a nice even melty consistency. Great flavor, mango, made from real fruit. Not flavored HFCS. Hope Uncle Clay returns so I can meet him on my next visit.

One of my favorite shave ice places on the island! Tried the classic rainbow, strawberry dream, tropical delight w/ condensed milk and a custom order. All were so tasty and flavorful - just the right amount of sweetness. Love the scoop of Tahitian vanilla ice cream on top. Highly recommend.

We were recommended Uncle Clay's shave ice at Aina Haina and ordered a Japanese uji kintoki. The taste is nice with fine shave ice, red beans, and ice cream topping with a tinge of Japanese gren tea flavour and not too sweet. The cost is USD$9.50 per cup and tips.

Surprisingly refreshing! We stumbled upon this place looking for shaved ice in Honolulu. We went to Ice Monster and Waiola, and our winner was Uncle Clays House of Pure Aloha! The shaved ice texture was very refreshing and all the toppings, including fruits, ice cream, and mochi balls were well done too.

Checked this place out after seeing it on a Netflix show called “Somebody Feed Phil”! I was NOT disappointed! For sure the best shave ice (not SHAVED, but SHAVE) in all of Hawaii! I ordered the Strawberry Dream, which was very good. I love how it was topped with ice cream and surrounded by strawberries. As for the other flavors I tried, the August Special was delicious and the Magic Island Mocha was VERY strong, almost like coffee. I didn’t get to meet Uncle Clay but I got to take a picture next to his cardboard cutout! 😆 Check this place out, you won’t be disappointed!

You must try this amazingly flavorful shave ice! We are a dye free family. We love taking our son here knowing he can order anything on the menu with no fear about the ingredients. They’re all natural! Mahalo, HOPA. Please note that HOPA is following current health guidelines for the safety of their staff and customers. 5 people may be inside to order at a time and no eating your treats inside. We took the treats back to our car to enjoy.

I found out about Uncle Clay's from one of my favorite travel shows - Somebody Feed Phil. The last few times we visited the island, I didn't get the chance to try but this time, I was determined to check it out. We stopped in on a Thursday at around 1. It's located in a shopping center, so there's plenty of parking. Hubby had the Strawberry Dream ("Strawberry Dream" syrup with strawberries, homemade mochi, condensed milk, and Tahitian vanilla ice cream). It was really good. The mochi was fresh and the shave ice mixed with ice cream was nice. I also liked that they have their own pre-set creations, so if you don't want to think about what to get, you can always just order one of those. On the other hand, I also like that they have create your own. I decided to go with something simple - guava and pineapple + condensed milk. Both flavors were really good and it seemed like quality syrup - not cheap overly sugary syrup with barely any flavor, like some other places use. It’s out of the way from where my sister lives so I don’t know when I would visit next but I’m really glad I finally got to try it.

Classic Rainbow #2 or Tropical Delight #3 shave ice, both have the scoop of vanilla bean ice cream! Size regular to share between 2 adults. HOPA is our favorite shave ice place on Oahu. We've visited twice on our 2021 trip. Currently, only 5 guests allowed inside to order at a time + takeout only. Cash or (physical) credit card, but no "watch" or "phone"-pay options. The store has a large number of logo tshirts, hats (baseball caps), water bottles, and stickers for sale. There was also a jar of free logo pins. We were able to pick up a shave ice just before 6pm closing and drove over to Wailupe beach (just down the street to the west) to enjoy it. A treat for hiking Diamond Head! I've visited HOPA on 3 separate trips so far (over the past few years). I hope to visit again soon! I've told everyone I know who is planning to visit Oahu to go here for their shave ice! I got the Strawberry Dream! It is not too sweet, but sweet enough. Not like mediocre plain sugar shaved ice! You can tell it’s home made, not just plain sugar. The ice is super smooth! I normally don’t like shaved ice, but I loved this place!

The best shave ice I’ve had on this island so far - better than Matsumoto’s by far! Do yourself a favor and get the ice cream, condensed milk and the homemade mochii. It was so good. I don’t know if their syrup are actual fruit but they are at least the color of the fruit instead is some overly sweet artificially flavored syrup.

Got the Tropical Delight small with mochi add on. The shaved ice here is amazing because it tastes more like fruit than high fructose corn syrup. Real nice balance. If you don't like shaved ice like Matsumoto because it is cloyingly sweet and tastes artificial, give this place a try!

The store inside looks dark and not inviting. The ice cream was good, and the fruit chunks, however the ice wasn’t. First of all the syrups when through it to the bottom of the cup really fast leaving you eating plain ice. On top of that the whole thing melted way too fast, I was drinking it more than I was eating the ice. We ate in the car, in the parking lot right there with the AC on 🤷‍♀️

I wish I went here on the first day of my trip....I would've gone every day if I did. Located in a shopping plaza. This shaved ice was so tasty. They make their own syrups and you definitely can taste the difference. Tastes like real fruit and not just artificial. This is a must try if you visit the area.

If you love Hawaiian ice, you have got to try uncle Clays (near diamond head). They make their own syrups and they are not those awful sugary syrups that everyone else uses. These are robust and fresh filled with tropical mouth watering goodness that will have you begging for more. The “ultimate” is my hands down favorite and no I won’t share it with anyone! We visit them 5 or 6 times when we are on the island and will continue to do so whenever we can! It’s always a special treat when uncle clay himself is there to visit and talk to his guests. You’ve got to try this place.

His 2 highlights on the menu (rainbow and paradise) were delicious memories I will take back with me to the mainland forever. The uji kintoki was very tasty. The bitter green tea and the ice cream and sweet red bean combo worked. The tropical delight (pineapple, guava, passion fruit) combo was very tangy. Loved the pineapple and guava flavors. The passion fruit was a bit too strong but we chose it because of the fruits are local. Go local!

We came here last time visiting the island and it's still pretty good. We mainly come to Oahu for the shave ice and poke and this is probably either tied or a close second to Shimazu Store. This year, I tried the strawberry dream and it was tasty - though it could have used more syrup as the inside of the cone was still ice-white. Overall, if you're in the area, try to stop by. Just for pricing reference, the small Dream was $7.50 and the regular is $8.75 (i think these prices have some covid-shortage-influence). The build-your-own prices: tiny: $2.75; small: $3.75; regular: $4.75. Enjoy!

Best shave ice I have tried. Ice cream toppings are nice and they have several special creations which are all excellent. Try the choco choco paradise. You just can't go wrong! The Staff is friendly and helpful if you have trouble deciding. Occasionally Uncle Clay himself hangs around visiting with customers and tells the story of the shop. Sweet man with a heart of gold.

My cousin in Maui suggested that I go to his uncle's shave ice shop and since he's a Hawaiian local, I just do whatever he recommends around here. lol -- Anyway, I am so happy I made the trip out here from Waikiki -- the shave ice here is so freaking delicious and although I'm not a health nut, I am a science geek and I avoid high-fructose corn syrup because of biochemistry reasons and sugar metabolism. I'm really happy that I can go to a place that values good quality ingredients without compromising taste and experience. We originally bought 2 bowls, but we added a 3rd bowl after we discovered how yummy this place was!

we came with a large group of 14 so this isn't a one off review of a single serving. Most if not all had hard ice on the bottom, not sure if it's from over packing the ice or the ice not being fine enough or something else. Often times the center which is obviously the deepest to get syrup to was just ice. Could have been because it was harder or not enough syrup.

I came here and ordered the Tropical! The flavors are so natural and delicious. I love how they put the ice cream scoop on top instead of under the shave ice. I can say this is one of the best shave ice places I've ever had because other stores are using artificial flavoring but this one uses real fruit. ***Update: Sad how much this place keeps changing. I didn't complain when they decreased their portions the first time. They used to sandwich the ice cream between 2 mounds of shave ice and it was awesome. Then they increased prices and decreased portions...no more sandwiching the ice cream, just one mound of shave ice and then a very small scoop of ice cream. I didn't complain because it is still so delicious and Uncle Clay is so nice. But came back last week after being gone for the summer, and find that they changed the menu and increased the prices AGAIN. Portions are still small for the higher price but now they add more fresh fruit chunks. You never see Uncle Clay there anymore either. It sucks how this place has changed and gotten so expensive. :-( *** Best shave ice! Syrups are made from real fruit/natural flavors and are not overly sweet. So so good!

Uncle clays is in my humble opinion the best shave ice on the island. Situated in Aina Haina shopping centre, if you come on the weekend or a really hot sunny day expect a wait and a queue, its super popular and well deserved! The combinations of shave ice are fabulous and the ice cream and freshly prepared natural flavours leave all the other shave ice behind. This is a 5 star taste experience starting at around $5 and would rival any Michelin starred restaurant dessert I've had before. The staff here are truly lovely and this humble little store deserves all the success and accolades it gets. I never visit Oahu without stopping by once or twice for my hit of pure aloha.

Came out of my way to stop here after hiking Koko Head based on the recommendation of a good friend. While there is a new location in the Ala Moana Centre, I was recommended the original store, located inconspicuously in a strip mall off the highway. Visited in the late afternoon around 3pm, wasn't busy at all at that time. Best shaved ice I had on Oahu! (even compared to certain North Shore shaved ice shops ;) I ordered the #6 Tropical Delight, you could definitely taste the higher quality, all natural ingredients (not artificial syrup like other shops), paired perfectly with the ice cream! Staff were quick and friendly, also a variety of merchandise and souvenirs available for purchase here. Really enjoyed this quick dessert, recommended!

While in Honolulu, I googled best restaurants near me and best restaurants near Hanauma Bay. Uncle Clay's House of Pure Aloha was on top each time. I had heard of Hawaii's fascination with shaved ice, so I figured I would give it a try. It was well worth the trip. The store itself is located in a strip mall and you have to be careful or you'll miss it, but once you arrive, you can see that it has more customers than any other store. Lucky for us, Uncle Clay was actually there greeting customers. Our family tried a variety of shaved ice and they were all good. Uncle Clay has all the usual flavors, but he also has a unique variety of Hawaiian flavors. This isn't the greatest dessert I ever had, but I would recommend it for anyone who is curious about the shaved ice phenomenon. Uncle Clay and his team are super helpful and care about the customer.

Uncle Clay’s House Of Pure Aloha is one the best! It is a little bit expensive but if you already try the dessert it's all worth it. I like that they use real fruit to add colors and flavors to their ice cream. We can also request for customized options and combination such as toppings, flavors, and sizes. I’ve been wanting to check this place out for a while, but it’s a bit of a drive from Kapolei. Finally made it yesterday. The shave ice, flavors, and vanilla ice cream were delicious. I like this natural style better than the regular syrups most of the other shave ice places use. My kids didn’t seem to like it, but my daughter did eat all of her vanilla ice cream and half the strawberry shave ice. Found out they now have another location at Ala Moana, they serve another style there too.

Best Shave Ice on the Island! They make their own syrup with actual fruit! No added chemicals or artificial food coloring. It's divine. If you want flavors that wow you, come here. The staff is friendly and you can't beat the flavors! The malasada (doughnut) ice cream sandwiches are incredible as well (these are only at the Ala Moana Mall location). The malasadas are filling, fluffy and the best I have ever tasted. Anyone who visits needs to come here. And if you want to meet Uncle Clay visit the location at the Ala Moana Mall. Awesome real fruit syrup shave ice! So good we came twice and brought the rest of our group with us. Between this and Matsumoto's you can't go wrong, but in my opinion HOPA was the better of the two. Wow really amazing! My husband and I ended up getting 3. He got the classic rainbow which has Tahitian vanilla ice cream on the bottom. I made my own with lilikoi, green tea, and guava topped with Mochi. I also had another one with coconut, green tea, and milk Choco on too of kona coffee ice cream and red bean....all made with quality ingredients and super fresh. HOPA is by far my favorite shave ice place on the island! I am a huge fan of li hing mui, and their li hing syrup is amazing. They used to be a crack seed store, so the li hing powder is made in house. My favorite thing to order is the Hawaiian Superman (strawberry & li hing with dream sauce). Hands down, my favorite shave ice on Oahu! I went to 4-5 shave ice places during my 10 day stay, and this topped them all. The natural flavorings were so good, and the combo with the ice cream was delicious. We went here after hiking Manoa Falls and I loved this Hike then HOPA hat. I only wish I had bought it. Next time!!
