Delicious shave ice, a small is only $6.50 and was just right to share with my wife. You are able to get 3 different flavors. If I was to get my own I would probably get the kid size but it's only 50 cents less. You might as well get the small size instead. They also don't skimp on the syrup. I like Waiola Shave ice there ice seems to be bit finer but they don't give you as much ice and aren't as generous with their syrup. I just found our new shave ice shop.

Came for shaved ice and ordered a small. Even the small size is pretty big. Was pretty good and the staff was very nice! The flavor I had was rainbow with condensed milk which was a lot of different ones but not sure about the exact ones

Great shaved ice in the neighborhood. Many different flavors available to mix and match (note: max 3 flavors). You can put ice cream at the bottom and have toppings such as creamy haupia piled on. I got a pure durian shaved ice (props to you if you like the fruit) because its not everyday you see a dessert place carry that flavor. The caveat is that you must consume the durian-flavored shaved ice outside and throw it away else where. Perfect for these hot and humid summer days.

Love their Hawaiian Shaved ice. GreenForest and BluePineapple is my favorite. The small is way way bigger than any small I've ever gotten anywhere else. Also, try their salty Li Hing Mui plums. 👍Update: they take debit and credit cards now!

IDK if it was a bad day on School Street but the Shimazu Store shave ice was not it's usual top tier; it was more like snow cone ice. If it doesn't live up to expectations with a future 2nd chance try, it's back to Matsumoto's or Waiola Store

Easy access location, although there's only limited street parking. Great place to get shave ice, despite the current ice shortage.

The shave ice was amazing and they had a whole board of different flavors. The staff, like 3 people, were all friendly and helped me pick out the perfect flavor shave ice and toppings. The only thing is that because of it being such a small store, everything is a little cramped and there was a big party in front of us, so it took some time for our order to come in. Overall, the whole experience I've had there was a good one and I definitely will come back!

Best shave ice I've had in Honolulu. They give big servings and the service is great. There are a lot of flavors to choose from and it's always delicious! This location can get crowded so it's easier to go to the one next to Rainbow Drive-In.

Debbie K. I always stop at Shimazu on my way home from shopping. I order the To Go. They have the best Shave Ice. The ice is fine. It melts in your mouth you can taste all the flavors. So many flavors to choose from. You can have one flavor or make a combo of flavors. Also Azuki Beans or other things to choose from. The Shave Ice is from Small to X Large. Very refreshing on a hot day. The people there are friendly. Next time you are in the area stop by give it a try. 😋 YUMMY...

The best place on island for shaved ice! It tastes as if I'm eating ice cream instead of shaved ice. The flavors are always on point. My favorites are Creme Brulee, Peaches and Cream and Red Velvet. Make sure you bring cash. The parking can be a problem here but there's parking meters on the side of the street. Seriously, forget the other shaved ice places on island, Shimazu is where it's at.

Best shave ice! Bring cash $$ they don't take other forms of payment. Azuki ice cream on the bottom with strawberry vanilla flavor and condensed milk is my favorite. Kids like ice cream bottom with cotton candy flavor and condensed milk. The lemon lime is good too. So many flavors to choose from, it's sometimes difficult to decide. Just keep coming back to try them all!! Especially on hot summer days. Don't forget to check out the popcorn and seeds!

I ordered a tiny strawberry cream, and also vanilla shave ice with mochi. I like that the mochi is actually like mochi, not balls like how it is normally at other places. They have enough flavors to choose from. The reason why this place is the best is that their ice shaved is amazing. This is one of my favorite shaved ice spots on the island.

Shave ice is the bomb! Pay the extra .50 cents, keep your hands clean and everything in the container. Enjoy. Oops! I forgot to take a picture but I had a small strawberry w/ice cream and snow cap. They also have sweet li hing mui and prune mui, $7 each. Cash only store too!

Because they don't compact it like other places the shaved ice doesn't become too hard and is more like a snow ball which allows more of the center to be consistently flavored. Small serving size is still large so make sure you come a bit hungry

Great deal on shave ice! Their small is already a mini-mountain. The flavors are delicious, from yuzu to Russian White. Don't pick a "normal" flavor, and their royal syrups are milk-based.

The most giant and delicious snowcones ever. Seriously the small is the size of a toddlers head and the large is just ridiculous. Great flavors and refreshing ice but if you blink you can miss the place so look out.

Ice is very fine and melts smoothly in your mouth. Great for the kids but I would prefer a real fruit sorbet from the Henry's Place. Mostly food colouring here that will turn your lips and tongue into rainbow colours.

This has GOT to be one of the BEST mom and pop shaved ice stops since Sato's on Nimitz back in the day. They have all kinds of housemade exotic flavors and classics you'll love! The ice is VERY fine and smoothe - not crunchy and bulky like some places. They give you a GENEROUS portion and have a size called THE LARRY" which I believe could easily be consumed satisfactorily by 6 or 7 people!! *They do not accept any form of payment other than cash, so go prepared! **Parking is terrible. There is, however, a small lot behind the establishment that has just recently been made accessible to Shimazu customers... I'm not sure if there is a restriction on days/times that Shimazu customers can utilize those spaces, though. ***On practically any day of the week during their hours of operation, you WILL find a long line and only one cashier taking orders. Do not be discouraged! Don't pass it by and give up! The wait will be worth it and your patience will be rewarded! ****Street parking is limited, but if you don't mind the walk, you can park further down in the shopping complex or -if you are feeling REALLY energetic- you could even park by Foodland and McDonald's and stroll or promenade and enjoy the view of the traffic below, smiling to yourself that you aren't stuck in it and that you are on your way to something cool and sweet and delicious and utterly life-changing. My favorite flavors are: -french vanilla -coconut -red velvet -white russian -mojito -creme brulee -strawberry -vanilla cream And no matter which flavor I get, it wouldn't be complete without a scoop of ice cream hiding underneath!! Enjoy, my fellow culinary thrill seekers! This is perfect for summer!!

I'm sure you all no about this longtime great shave ice store on school street before foodland. I've been going here since I was a kid, the Japanese old man owner past away, bless this great man, my grandma & grandpa used to own a store in auld lane just off the side of the freeway, she used to tell me about this man that ran this shave ice store on school street. He used to be a delivery driver for a soda company and deliver soda to my grandma's store a longtime ago, were talking in the 1940s and 1950s, so I liked this man even more knowing this, and always made an extra effort to try to support this store as much as I could, even watching his back even though he did not know this. I miss him alot and sometimes think about when I was a kid and how special he made all of us kids and grow ups feel. God bless him, his family and his nieces or daughters who's following in his footsteps knowing how great he made this little hole in the wall shave ice store very popular on Oahu Hawaii, I will never forget this man and how special he made me feel as a small child; with lot of love, Craig Shibata :)

Update Aug 2012: Landed, picked up the car, then headed straight over to Shimazu's. Today, I tried the creme brulee and red velvet creme combo, with condensed milk on top. Sooo good. There'll probably be a line, plus parking may be hard to find, but it's worth it, IMHO. Tomorrow we're hitting a couple others, including Matsumoto's, but I still think this is the best on Oahu. The ice is sooo smooth, that's it's almost like you're eating ice cream instead of shaved ice (maybe it's the syrup they use?). Aug 2011: Having just flied over from Kauai (where our family consensus picked Shave Ice Paradise as the best) - we now can have some REAL shave ice. In the past we've tried Matsumoto's and Wailoa's, but Shimazu's is REALLY good - making those overpriced Kauai shops look like they don't know what they're doing. This guy is really friendly and his staff (family?) are really nice. Their small size looks like those other guys' ex-large and it's really cheap. Flavors are top-notch and the ice is soooo smooth. I hate it when your spoon has to chip away at the cone and then the piece falls to the ground quickly melting in the Hawaiian-sun-baked-sidewalks. This shop's cones are just perfect. he also creates his own mochi so feel free to add that in as well (it kinda reminds me of those Boton rice candy treats). Anyway, if you're seeking great shave ice, don't leave out Shimazu! (and about the parking, yes, just park on the street. you'll be eating your yummy right outside so you'll be able to see if anything is happening to your car)
