Reviews of Hartford Baking Co.
Great place to get some breakfast and do some work. This place has a nice upstairs where you sit can overlook the center, or sit in the booths etc. They also finally fixed there Wifi too! I got the chocolate croissant which was delightful, but I will say it lacked most of the chocolate. Overall a nice place!
I found this little gem on google on a whim! This place was fabulous. Great service, wide selection of fresh foods and a homey feel. Everything was tasty! I will definitely go back.
I was really excited to go and get some awesome, fresh bread. I had also heard/read good things about the avocado toast. I was disappointed in almost everything - the olive bread was good but not really "just baked" quality. Everything was super overpriced - especially the latte I got, which was good, but not filled to the top. Overall disappointing, will probably not be back.
Amazing atmosphere. Amazing pastries. Amazing lattes. Amazing staff. Amazing tomato soup. I love coming and spending hours here anytime I come home. It’s located very conveniently in WEHA center. It is very cozy and the seating on the second floor is very open and clean. The different foods and lattes are also full of flavor and are so fresh.
I tried their
🌯 scrambled eggs, black beans, avocado, cheese and spiced potatoes in a whole wheat wrap - this was flavorful and delicious. Loved how the eggs were cooked and toppings were great
I just love how every item was customizable and you could substitute on the app! Definitely makes ordering food more convenient and I want to try their other breakfast options
Nice coffee shop in the heart of West Hartford center. Coffee and tea was perfect and raspberry treat was delicious. The people were very friendly, despite it being a 'Karen' destination.
Not sure if we caught them on a bad day or if their lunch sandwiches are always this misaligned with the price. The taste is there, we were just surprised by the lack of filling. My wife and I both got the same sandwich and had the same issue.
Hmm. Too much hype.. wasn't as expected.
I was happy to find a coffee and bakery shop near Hartford downtown. We drove up on Sunday morning.
Caramel latte- I don't know if they forgot to add caramel but it didn't taste like one. So 0 stars for this. 0/5
Olive oil chocolate cake - 4/5
No chocolate croissants so don't know about that.
Avocado toast- 4/5
Almond croissant - 1/5
Nice place with baked bread. Dissent espresso coffee.
Not so muck choice for kids
Awesome place to work! Plus the food and drinks are amazing. Matcha is my go-to but my goal is to try the entire menu. So far so good! They also do a great job of avoiding plastic when possible. The word is out so expect crowds on weekends.
Excellent everything is great costumer service if you are looking for a good place to have breakfast or coffee or desserts this is the perfect place for. Thanks so much.
This is probably my favorite spot to go to for low-key meetings. I love the upstairs and the ability to look over the W. Hartford Center in Farmington Avenue. Quite frankly, I think it might be the most underrated view in town.
People always blown away every single time I suggest to have a meeting there and they go upstairs and see exactly what I’m talking about
Now, as for food, I love the Bangkok tea and I am also really enjoying the Caesar salad and their banana nut chocolate chip muffin is next level. Make sure you ask them to warm it up on that griddle.
Staff can sometimes be a bit rude but for the most part fine! Food is delicious! Coffee is hit or miss! Cold brew with dash of oat milk is phenomenal but cortados and cappuccinos are lacking! The California wrap lacked salt, but the farro salad with roasted chicken salad added was amazing, as was the buttermilk ranch, avocado, cheddar, roast turkey sandwich on rosemary sourdough. My friends who were visiting also said the EBAT was amazing! Unfortunately , the wifi DID NOT work once and I was trying to do PhD work.
Hartford Baking Co. is a really exciting addition to this area, and I've been to their location in Farmington as well. The food and drinks are pretty good, but I have to deduct at least one star because three separate times now, I've been served a drink with the wrong kind of milk. I'm pretty severely lactose intolerant, and i've watched the baristas at this location make my drink with regular milk (after ordering with oat or almond) three separate times. Luckily I was keeping an eye on the drinks as they were being made and politely asked if they were made with a milk alternative due to my intolerance. Every time the barista has said Oh, let me remake that because I can't remember. Even without an intolerance, when you have customers paying extra for a milk alternative, it should be honored.
Very busy and expensive for basic breakfast food delivered over a counter. The avocado toast with egg was good. The upper level dining is cute.
Really great play to get breakfast. All of the staff is really nice. They serve Giv coffee which is amazing. Baked goods are amazing. Definitely worth checking out.
Delicious food, excellent service, clean and very good prices.
Very large bakery with plenty of space to meet people and a great view over the main drag. A few gluten free options but mainly a traditional bakery and coffee spot. The staff is nice and the Expresso was good.
First trip today with a friend after a run around Weha. Had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and it was so delicious I bought a second to bring home for my husband because I felt bad he didn't get to experience it. Lots of options for foods and snacks and desserts. We will definitely be going back
Good prices fast service and delicious food. Do try the golden latte and the Egg Sandwich with Bacon.
Reviewing from the second floor! The vibe is really nice here. The music on the second floor (and maybe first although didn't notice) is very loud so don't expect to take any video calls if you plan to work from here. There is bar/window seating on the second floor that overlooks Farmington Ave. so great for people watching if you like to do that while you eat/drink.
I got the golden milk latte with oat milk and it was tasty. Granted this isn't legit coffee so can't speak to that specifically. I also got the chicken Caesar wrap which was tasty but the chicken did start to taste more strongly "chicken-y" the more I ate and it turned me off from finishing it. (if you know what I mean, you get it. Almost gamey in flavor or something). Plenty of dressing on the wrap-- I didn't need to order extra on the side. I'd definitely be back and maybe try a baked good next time or some of the bread.
Amazing food even though they were packed due to a race that happened. They were still very quick and had that line moving!
It was okay. I wasn't super impressed with the bread on the sandwiches, that should be the highlight of the sandwich at a bakery and it was just okay. I'll try again I think.
The Pretzel...... It is excellent! Pastries were good too. Service was attentive and very friendly
Great for brunch! Love the community eating area upstairs
Had the breakfast burrito... Bland. Tastes like there's absolutely no salt in it. Not worth the price.
Pretty much everything they make is outstanding. WH Center location can get busy. I felt extra good eating my Rainbow cookie. A dollar of the $2.75 cost was donated to Out Ct.
Looks like a great place but the lattes are a disappointment. My friend and I each just got essentially a cup of steamed milk with almost no coffee flavor. I realize a latte has a lot of milk, but their ratio is off or there is a problem with the coffee.
Delicious bread! Pastries and sandwiches are pretty hit or miss. But when they're good, they're GREAT! As for coffee drinks, don't even bother unless Fae the barista is working. She makes the best latte I've ever had, no matter what kind of milk its made with. She must've brought her own skills though, because otherwise they don't seem to be interested in training their staff AT ALL. Any time i ask a staff member anything, nobody seems to know anything without asking her. What gives!? 3 stars for consistently exceptional bread, and occasionally exceptional everything else.
Regular coffee is okay. It is DD-like coffee. Even with COVID and all, they have jugs of milk/cream and stirrers that everyone touches. Place looks good but I'm probably not coming again.
Sandwiches were a generous size with fresh ingredients. Overall good experience.
I’ve been wanting to try them out ever since we moved to the area. Omg! They are exactly how I imagined. Really good croissants, I asked for salmon on it which is really good nice and fatty. My almond latte was perfect. Service was friendly, chatted with girl behind espresso machine, it’s noticeable that no one knows operations better than her, as they constantly ask her for help. They need to hire two girls to make her life better, the wait in line was annoying. Men who were behind the counter make her life difficult, plus they are too bulky for that little space and useless. (No offense to men)
My very first visit. Staff was very friendly. The Creamy Tomato soup was very yummy!! :-) I normally hate tomato soup but I thought I would give it a try. This soup was AMAZING!! It was very fresh, flavorful, creamy, and buttery. The fresh bread was AWESOME too. I definitely will be back for more and try new items on the menu!!
I've been following them since the early days, so excited theyre right in WH Center now!
Ordered from here for the first time today. I don't mind paying $10 for a sandwich with fresh ingredients, but it better come with everything it's supposed to on it. Ordered the Turkey bacon cheddar that comes with avocado and ranch dressing. The cheddar and avocado were missing...
This is the best customer service I've encountered, perhaps ever. Excellent employees! I asked for help to decide between two items and I am very satisfied with my order!!!! They even warmed up my cinnamon brioche at the perfect time to take it with me warm! The music was great and the feeling of the place was very cozy and welcoming. Upstairs is a perfect place to bring your laptop and work.
I just wish I lived in Hartford to become a regular!
A great selection of breads, pastries, and coffee! There's a cute area outside where you can enjoy some breakfast or lunch, and their menu is decently sized and priced.
Great customer service! In and out with our order.
Also love the online ordering. Makes it nice to run in and out if I have to be somewhere and cant sit in their dining area.
i had been so exited to come eat here, but became so disappointed when i got my matcha: it was unmixed and full of powder... however, i do have to give three stars for the delicious caesar wrap :)
Love supporting this baking company. Their breads are fantastic but their baked goods are to die for. I particularly loved some orange financiers that they made, but careful going in hungry because you'll want to try everything.
The staff is super nice and the whole place feels more out of Burlington, VT than WeHa.
Go-to joint in We-Ha for a great cup of coffee (and fresh beans). Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere to meet at or work.
Breads and other bakery products in excess. I got a load of sourdough and it was a great choice. I wonder what the other ones taste like.
I was tempted to get a cookie or other small snack, but ended up not doing so due to the price. Even for West Hartford, it seemed a little high.
They’re baked goods are very good. However, customer service is a complete fail from top to bottom. From waiting in line for five minutes as the only person there to no one knowing what people ordered or what inventory was available seems to be a constant problem here in several visits. Prepare to be satisfied by the quality and completely dissatisfied by the service.
Love everything we've tried here, especially the E-BAT breakfast sandwich (get it pressed). The bread and pastries are obviously incredible and you can bring whole loafs home! The coffee is great as well. The wait for food is a little long as they're making everything fresh.
Breakfast sandwiches with home fries and tomato jam in them - yes please! Great breads and coffee and friendly service. Avoid the wait and pre-order on Uber Eats for pick-up as it can be pretty busy at times. HBC is really popular for a reason.
The blueberry muffins was delicious. Perhaps it could use more berries
Came in to try an egg sandwich and a coffee(cortado). Egg sandwich was just ok and the bread was burnt. Coffee was extremely hot. Too hot for cortado! It really was a bit of a disappointment. I’d give it 2.5 stars but rounded up to 3 because I really like the other location.
I went here on Saturday evening with my wife. There was little to no wait. We ordered two small latte's and a cookie to eat in. Both latte's came out in a few minutes and were made well. I think the espresso drinks at this location are better and more consistent than those at the other location on New Park Ave. Also this location has a substantial amount of seating upstairs which is very nice. Other than having to pay for parking I prefer this location to the New Park Ave one.
Located downtown. Expect a line only one person handling register and getting your bakery goods. Confusion in getting drink orders. They lost a drink order in the process. Coffee is not bitter but for one cup took 10 mins to get order completed. Average bakery goods for what we ordered. Prices are in keeping with area. 2nd floor dining area was not well attended to by staff. Tables were not wiped down as patrons left tables. Self cleanup is expected with full garbage cans.
Both people behind the counter could not answer if there were any vegan options for baked goods. (There were none) coffee was nothing special. Flat and uninspired. (I drink it black) Buddha bowl was just okay. Reminded me of rabbit food. Atmosphere upstairs is nice. Hung out on the couches to work and socialize with a friend. Tile floor in lobby is very slippery. It was raining and I slipped and fell. Have a bruise on my leg. There was a mat down but it wasnt enough. Bathroom was clean except some pee under the toilet seat. Overall experience was just average.
Very cute cafe! I came in for a light breakfast and some coffee. The service was quick and the staff was very friendly. The place was kept very clean. I ordered a standard black coffee and a blackberry muffin, both delicious. Highly recommend!
Love this place! Been looking for a bakery in West Hartford and this is the one. Bread is fresh, breakfast is good, and the coffee is great. Only feedback is that sometimes the menu options can be somewhat confusion online. i.e the "Roast Chicken Salad" is described as:
Roasted and pulled whole chicken, avocado, ripe tomato, and romaine on ciabatta - which makes it seem like a pulled chicken sandwich, when actuality it is still a chicken salad sandwich. Nonetheless - great meals here, highly recommend.
Fresh bread, delicious coffee (love the vanilla lattes personally), and friendly staff. They often have little samples of the breads and pastries out. Lost one star because it's just so incredibly noisy upstairs. It would be a wonderful place to work or meet clients, but it's so crazy loud! Seems like it has to do with the acoustics, something to absorb the noise is greatly needed.
There's a moderate selection of coffee here, but there's usually a wide variety of pastries and breads, and sandwiches are available, too. We found sometimes the pastries are a little bit dry, but the breads are excellent here. Staff is always friendly, just like at their other location.
This place is top notch. We love to sit down and eat there as the sandwiches and soups are excellent and the facility is clean and modern, but we have also walked out with loaves on numerous occasions and the bread makes any meal better. The quality of the bread competes with any bakery I’ve visited - give it a try
Please sell your gluten free rolls! Tried to buy some alongside other breads for thanksgiving and was told they are only sold with sandwiches :( They are the best we've found!
Amazing breads. Try this cheddar Pull apart!
This was our first visit to the new location. The coffee, service, and food are good. The cafe has two levels. On can get in to use the main floor with a walk and a wheelchair. People with mobility issues may have difficulty using the stairs. Am unaware if there is an elevator.
Both locations are good.
Food was absolutely delicious, coffee is also tasty, but the wait for takeout was longer than expected.
I love this place but they SERIOUSLY need to play something other than the early Beatles album. (and I don't mean play late Beatles) I know it's family-friendly and an easy choice but we need something mellow, ambient maybe, low-key and background-y. Love the chai!
Best brunch food in West Hartford for me. The HBC Eggwich is unrivaled when it comes to packing flavor at breakfast. Their tomato jam is both original and extremely satisfying to the untrained taste buds.
Expensive but food tastes good!
A large Paris tea and an Almond financier is my usual order. A defibite favorite. Lately the scones have been a tad bit over baked which is a disappointment if ya don't catch it before biting into the dry biscuit. I am not GF but it was nice to see they had a few options for people who are. Wait time for food in the back sometimes feels long but EVERYTHING is cooked to order. So the wait is for good reason. Baked goods are always yummy even of sometimes their baked are a tiny bit inconsistent between locations. I prefer the New Park location in Elmwood.
Really have always loved everything about HBCo but today I went for the Roasted Chicken Salad sandwich and in my first half I found not one, not two but THREE bones. Needless to say I'm not eating the other half. Stick to bread and bakery items perhaps? 😅 …
Regular and gourmet food. Excellent prep. and tasty. With the tip, it becomes a little pricey.
Awesome place for a coffee and baked good. Coffee cake, giant pretzel and cinnamon roll are my favorites. Also live their sandwiches at lunchtime. Grab a fresh baked loaf to bring home too!
A cute little store. I bought some rye bread it's out of this world good. Best rye bread I had in a long time. Also their croissants are to die for!😊 ❤️❤️❤️ …
Best bread in the Hartford area. You can tell because they sell out early. Try any kind, all are delicious. The brownies and apple crostada are also worth the calories...very delicious!
Great food and coffee. He loves the Fiancier (me too). I love the bacon, egg, and cheese on croissant (him too). We both love the coffee and the salted caramel lattes.
Went twice with the family this last week for breakfast. Large variety of bagels, coffee among others. Highly recommended.
Food and coffee are good. But main dining room is on second level. Stairs are steep and could be a danger while carrying food upstairs.
Excellent pastry and breads. I don't drink coffee, but theirs is ethically sourced. Get the egg and sausage sandwich!
Good food! Love thier sandwiches. A place to relax and work on your laptop or read a book. Excellent customer service.
Roberto makes the best pour overs in town! With a Haro V60 and very exciting style, he gets my vote for top barista!
Great food and drinks! The upstairs is huge and would be a good place to work if the wifi ever worked.
A very generously proportioned egg and house ground sausage sandwich and iced tea made a great breakfast. The food is always very good here.
Great coffee and hot chocolate. A little on the pricey side. They also sell breads, muffins, and all sorts of baked goods!
I was psyched to hear Hartford Baking was opening a WeHa center location, I think it's safe to say I've gotten my breakfast nearly every day (excluding weekends) since it opened.
Fay the barista makes a well crafted pour over, meticulously measured and fresh it’s one of the best around!
Excellent bread and cold brew!
Baked goods are great, very nice vibes. Their coffee is very acidic though.
This place has outstanding baked goods, sandwiches, and coffee. It is really outstanding and definitely worth checking out.
Wonderful coffee and incredible baked goods! Delicious sandwiches and soups also!
Love HBC! Able to accommodate customizations, beautiful bakery options and the service was wonderful.
Good stuff. The kiosk is easy and convenient, and their breakfast sandwiches are killer!
Fab fresh food and coffee, pleasant staff, plenty of space to eat/wrk from with lots of power points and good Wifi.
I'm a big fan of their banana chocolate chip muffins! Modern, cozy atmosphere upstairs for a bite and a coffee
Had a wonderful breakfast and chatted with the managers, makes me miss living on the east coast.
Go here for the bread. Can’t stand any store bought bread after having this stuff. Will continue to make trips just for their amazing bread.
Great food, AMAZING fresh baked goods. I don't think there was one thing I wouldn't order!
Got an egg an cheese. There was a lot of egg. 2 maybe 3? It was good.
Large, delicious breakfast sandwiches and piping hot drinks brought right to my car!
All of the baked goods I tried were very good. Hot chocolate is good.
I didn't actually eat here but the staff couldn't have been nicer! Will definitely be back!
One of the coolest places to study in Hartford/West Hartford. The workers there are pretty cool and friendly.
Love the coffee products and the baked goods. Really good place for breakfast and lunch!
Great bread, fun delicious sandwiches, tasty drinks and casual, relaxing atmosphere.
Great coffee shop to work at. Sunny seating, good coffee, good avocado toast.
Delicious food and great bread! Love the breakfast sandwiches.
Great spot for a quick breakfast and coffee or have lunch with a filling sandwich on delicious bread.
Great breakfast spot. Delicious fresh breads and baked goods
Great. Food. Good. Customer. Service. Damn. Good. Employees
We bought some ciabatta bread there today and had it with dinner. Delicious!!!!
Good food and service however a little pricey.
Best gluten free bread/roll I’ve ever had!
Thank you to the gentleman who recommended the parm crusted grilled cheese with tomato jam
It was a great sandwich
Really great freshly made bread and a great place to grab lunch.
The key to a good sandwich is the bread, and they have some excellent bread
Had the expression crusted roast beef sandwich. It was absolutely delicious!!
Good food. Great place to bring laptop/ do some work.
Great coffee, the breakfast burrito is also terrific.
Great service and delicious breakfast options 😋 …
Just relocated for work and this is one of my fave spots
Very comfortable relaxed atmosphere homemade baked goods
I can't wait to come back to Hartford to eat here again!
Superbe sandwiches made on the freshest, best bread!
Tastes great mid priced and good atmosphere.
Good food but expensive, and the wifi isn't great.
The upstairs is a great place to hang out and get work done.
Love the gluten free options :)
Good turkey and bacon sandwich. Baked goods looked tasty
excellent selection of fresh baked breads.
Great food and friendly service across the board.
Great place to buy artisan bread, grab a bite and work.
Good place for morning coffee and a yummy pastry.
I like the sandwiches. The bread is good.

Best regards from Germany...
We came to make some payments to TDC.
Quiet and cozy place.
