Made our wedding cake and we couldn't recommend them more! The tasting was fantastic - everyone was so attentive and kind. The flavors are out of this world! They also were incredibly accommodating to help us get the cake to the venue. The final cake was gorgeous and tasted as good as we had remembered :)

We used this bakery as it came apart of our wedding package with Le Meridien. However, I’m so grateful for this vendor. We had a blast doing the cake tastings and decided to pay extra for a mountain design. The cake was moist and there were only 2 pieces left the night of our reception. Can’t wait for our anniversary cake!

We have bought a handful of cakes from here since moving to Denver seven years ago. Traditional Peruvian and pumpkin have been the norm. This last time it was simply a chocolate cake. For $30 this 6” cake fed 6 people and looked and tasted incredible. We have tried several other bakeries nearer our home in Erie only to overpay and be disappointed. It’s worth the 45 minute drive for us to get an Azucar cake. I can always count on getting the best cake in metro Denver for a great value. Not to mention, these people are very professional and friendly to deal with. Try them, you will be impressed.

I was catering a private dinner for two for a birthday and somehow the day got interrupted and I found myself without enough time to bake a cake. I googled bakeries near me and thankfully Azucar Bakery was open and they had a cake that I desired. Chocolate with a mouse filling for the layers. It was simple and delicious. Upon entering the store I was greeted with a hello from the lady who answered the phone and a nice size pastry case. She shown me the cake and asked what designs I would like added free of charge. I chose purple pearls and purple flowers along with a simple happy birthday message. While waiting for the design my daughter and I enjoyed a beverage. Mine was fruity and hers was frozen. She also had a slice of cake from the display case. She approved. It made her day! I spent my time taking pictures and soaking in what it was this shop was offering. From wedding cake consultation to satisfying the every day craving. I learned that sometimes I can call on the professionals to make my days easier. I know I will be utilizing this company again soon. I just might leave off the message and get a topper instead. Handwriting is something different, however the cake was moist and delicious.

Azucar was incredible. My wife and I were looking for a bakery that was easy to work with, affordable and most importantly made really really delicious cake. We loved the tasting and actually went with one of the flavors they surprised us with. We ended up getting a 6” round cake for cutting (strawberry with strawberry filling) and two quarter sheet cakes (coconut walnut with dulce de leche filling OMG, and chocolate with chocolate ganache) and everything was so so so good. Couldn’t be happier with this bakery.

My daughter went on a field trip here and loved it so much, she made me bring her back! 😅 Love this place. We got a chicken empanada (delish, light& savory), flan (caramel sauce has an almost dark coffee-ish flavor that I actually love), cheesecake ...we couldn't help but sample some on sight even though we ordered to go. So good! Staff is very friendly. Seats there are so comfy/padded leather. Would be a perfect quiet meet up spot. Cute,.pink chiq detail on the building. We will be back. 💛🌷

I needed a cake maker last minute for my wedding after l had tried so many other places. James accepted my order and was very kind in helping me customize my cake. The cake turned out even more beautiful than the photo l sent them. Everyone loved the taste that the cake that was meant to feed 20 people was eaten right away by 6 of us without any left overs. It was that delicious. I should have ordered a bigger cake. I will use them again when next l am in Denver.

We ordered our wedding cake from Azucar bakery and it was SO delicious! During the tasting we selected 3 flavors to try and the bakery came up with an additional 3 to taste. It was so hard to pick just one, so they worked with us so that we could have 3 flavors for the wedding (funfetti, chocolate chocolate chip, and carrot cake)! They were so accommodating and great to work with. The cake looked beautiful (flowers added from my florist). We kept all the leftovers and over a week and a half later they still taste amazing. Highly recommend working with Azucar bakery!

Azucar did our wedding cake and we couldn’t have been more pleased. Our tasting was great, the staff was friendly and easy to work with. We chose to pick up our cake to save on delivery fees and it was packaged safely and ready to go when my fiancé arrived. We chose a small two tier naked semi-naked design to cut and then a sheet cake for guests. We got so many compliments from our guests about good the cake was. It was moist, and flavorful. We chose funfetti, lemon, and wedding cake with fruit filling. So good! Their pastries are amazing too. Check out azucar for your wedding cake, you won’t regret it.

Azucar made our wedding cake and it was phenomenal! They got all the design elements perfect and it was stunning! The cake itself was delicious! The guava cake in particular was the thing my husband was looking forward to the most! We expected (and were excited) to take home leftovers, but it was all gone at the end of the night! And we ordered enough for 20+ more people that attended. Azucar was so easy to work with, had good prices and made beautiful and flavorful cake! a major win!

To start with the positive side, if you want the most delicious cakes in Denver, Azucar is the answer.The cake tasting was amazing...and difficult to choose the best tasting option. The tasting appointment went smooth. My mother-in-law used them as well for a 2 Grooms Cakes at the rehearsal dinner & welcome party, it was the cutest caking cake with great detail. Both our wedding cake & grooms cakes tasted excellent. However, when it came to our wedding cake, a picture of purple mountains from light to dark purple was provided and attached to the contract and our contract stated "following coloring of attached photo".....yet our wedding cake was delivered with all blue mountains. Thankfully for Azucar, I had been told by several of our vendors that I was one of the more chill brides they had the pleasure of working with and when it was delivered, I'm no bridezilla and it was what it was at that point, however that shouldn't downplay the fact that we were disappointed since the theme of my wedding was all purple and that cake was the only bit of blue at the wedding. I received an email during our honeymoon requesting the tree stump be returned as it was late, and I informed them that it was returned to some staff in the back 2 days after the wedding, and at this point I informed Josie of the incorrect color situation. She said that she was going to pass this information off to the owner so he can be in contact but it has been a week and we haven't heard anything just to make them aware of the situation. A little disappointed that no one ever reached out to apologize... Again, delicious cakes and our grooms cakes were beautifully done which I thank you for.

Got a small red velvet cake for my girlfriend’s birthday back in January. Did my research of bakeries in Denver and stumbled upon Azucar Bakery. They had great reviews both on google and Yelp so had to check them out. They were very helpful with the order, and placing it online was very easy. Picking up the cake was very quick and easy as well. The worker was really kind and courteous. I definitely plan on coming back to try their coffees and other pastries.

Azucar Bakery Great bakery on South Broadway! I recently picked up a 6" , 3-layer round for Bob's birthday. Custom orders must be made at least 7 days in advance, but I was lucky enough to find a chocolate "to go" cake. I didn't have a choice about the white frosting, but they were able to add a few words on top with rainbow sprinkles. It tasted amazing! The buttercream frosting, chocolate cake, and chocolate mousse filling were all decadent! It also cost half the price as those sold at dbar. Azucar recently won an award for one of the best wedding cake bakeries in Denver, and Peruvian desserts are another of their specialties, hence the Spanish name.

I called today for our anniversary cake and realized I forgot to review them after our wedding! We got the most delicious cake, two top tiers zucchini and two bottom tiers spice apple for our wedding last November! Our experience with Azucar was great. We got to taste amazing cakes during the tasting and everyone there was so friendly and helpful. Their coffee was excellent! Then on wedding day, we forgot the cake topper back at home and could not get it before wedding time - Danielo was able to arrange the flowers beautifully into the cake - no topper was necessary! My wife and I got married this past July and we chose Azucar. We were so impressed by the quality of their desserts on our big day. We made some specific requests to match the theme of sunflowers and mountains for our wedding and they were able to match them perfectly on our cutting cake. I. Love. This. Bakery. They did our wedding cake in 2015 and it was INCREDIBLE - a giant cupcake on top of a quilted cake with rainbow layers inside. We've been multiple times for birthday cakes since... I love that you can stop in anytime for a generically iced cake (many flavors to choose from and they all taste delicious) and have it customized on the spot. They're always SO friendly! This place rocks!

Azucar Bakery made my wedding cake and it turned out beautiful and delicious! We scheduled the cake tasting and met with Pam. She was wonderful to work with, helpful, and pleasant. They were very generous with the samples and all were so delicious that we settled on three different flavors. We chose the almond, lemon raspberry, and strawberry cream. I had an idea of the design I wanted and I described it to Pam. She listened to me intently and paid attention to detail. When I saw the cake on my wedding day I was blown away. They made my wedding cakes. I was beyond happy! I gave them the basics of what I wanted and then gave them lots of room for adding their personal touches. Everyone loved the different flavors and there wasn’t much cake to bring home to enjoy later. The cost for 4 custom cakes was much less than I had budgeted. Azucar was our dessert vendor for our wedding and I can't rate them high enough. Every dessert we ordered was amazing and I am picky. James, the owner, is the nicest man and seems to have a lot of passion for what he does. We had a unique request for bite size desserts at our wedding instead of a traditional cake and even though there was not an existing package for something like that he made it work extremely reasonably. He had amazing little touches like adding blueberries to the lemon bars because they were in season and making brownies even though his bakery doesn't even sell brownies! Can't say enough good things. Absolutely delicious and we will be back often.

In May we decided to go with Azucar for our wedding cake because when we tried the samples they were amazing... However our wedding cake although looking amazing was dry and lack lusting. I was ranting and raving about the banana cake to everyone and wanted everyone to try the cake. I was disappointed and embarrassed. After the wedding we called the bakery and talked with the manager. The manager did nothing to try and appease the situation and said "the cake was dry because we used unripe bananas". Such a disappointment. Again we love and I mean loved the sample banana cake. But how everything was handled would not recommend going with Azucar.

Very busy place for specialty cakes. I personally was looking for a snack like crème brulée but settled for a chocolate mousse cake. I also asked what was in the empanadas and was not told there was peas. That was fine for me but would not have been for my picky eater. I LOVE this bakery. My sister in law ordered cakes from here is how I learned about this place. Loved it so much I ordered my wedding cake here. Back then the cake tasting/consult was free and on the one year anniversary they give you a free 6 inch round of your choice so you don’t have to freeze your top layer! Love all the flavors, the buttercream is not cloyingly sweet, staff is always friendly and I met the manager during my wedding cake consult and is such a happy guy. Have since ordered at least one or two cakes for celebrations from here. They have a reward system so I’ve received a couple of their other goodies for free which were also delicious. A little pricey but totally worth it. You pay for the quality and love that goes into every goodie. Well worth it! Pictures are of my wedding cake and the second is my birthday cake.

The wedding happened and the cakes looked and tasted fantastic! The Imperial Star Destroyer groom's cake with Peruvian Dulce Le Leches cake was super moist and had just the right amount thick caramel filling. It looked great too (see for yourself) and matched the adventure themed affair perfectly. Azucar came through without a hitch.

Love this place! The cakes are both beautiful and delicious. We got our wedding cake here 4 years ago and I come back for occasions and the occasional sweet treat. Everything is so good and they have standard flavors as well as specialty ones like dulce de leche.

My fiancé and I did a wedding cake tasting there Feb 1st. The staff was polite and helpful but the experience was a little frustrating. I was shown books which had pictures of pretty cakes that I could flag if I liked the design. Well…..I’m having an Indian wedding so all the ones I flagged had henna inspired piping and were colorful. I was advised that bright colors were not recommended because guests get stained mouths and I may not be able to get a cake with henna since they only have 1 artist that they work with and it depends on her availability. Anyways, I was told that they would check with the artist and I would be sent over a quote. I never heard back so I assumed the artist was unavailable and made other arrangements. I’m a little tickled because I just got a phone call……a MONTH later that the henna artist is available and they could send over a quote. Maybe don’t wait a month to follow up with customers that were ready to drop a couple grand? The whole experience just put me off. Side note: the cake is ok….just ok. It was all super sweet. Like kids birthday party grocery store sheet cake sweet. If you’re into that, you may like them. Also, this was the only bakery we worked with that made us pay for tasting.

I ordered my daughter's birthday cake here this year. It was great. I also did cupcakes to be covid-friendly. They were amazing. I got dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate chips and coconut with coconut cream cheese frosting. I also enjoy their caramel shortbread cookies, their cakes by the slice, and their little chocolate cakes.

One of my favorite bakeries in the Denver area. Excellent cakes with unique flavors that spawn from fruity and bright to decadent and rich. I buy an Azucar cake for every occasion that calls for cake and try to get all my friends and family to give them a try. In addition, they have unique and interesting pastries including Peruvian sweets and your classic desserts like eclairs. All of the staff members are super nice and really accommodating. I haven't had a bad experience there so be sure to give them a try.

This place had great ratings, as well as being rated top bakery in Denver on a couple of lists. So, we decided to give them a try, and order a birthday cake for a party we were having. The cake, and my overall experience with ordering/pick up, ect. was mediocre at best. The way the cake was described on their website (where I ordered from) did not live up to the cake I received. The cake was also a bit on the dry side. It wasn't so terrible that it ruined our party or anything. However, it was disappointing, and I doubt we will order from them again.

My sister & I stumbled onto this bakery by accident- but I’m so glad we did!! Everything looked AMAZING so we had a hard time deciding, but ended up getting 3 pastries to share. The staff was super friendly and they were all wearing masks and it looked really clean inside. There were a couple of distanced inside seating spots, but it was nice enough outside that we sat outside and stuffed our faces with delicious pastries. Can’t WAIT to come back & try some more!!

I was in a bind for my brothers 40th birthday, he requested a dark chocolate cake with a dark chocolate cream cheese frosting, I had never heard of it so I called Azúcar and they went above and beyond. The first cake i bought here was a very detailed wolf cake for my daughter and it was amazing. This cake for my brother's 40th was beyond delicious. I can not thank you enough for making this day special. The customer service is great, staff is friendly, and the cakes are delicious and beautiful. Enter Azucar Bakery, who's owner just happens to be from Peru. I called and got a little cake (since only 2 of us would be eating it thanks to COVID), and they couldn't have been nicer. Went in and grabbed it today and I have to say, the chocolate cake with the Bavarian creme was absolutely to die for. Like seriously the best cake I've ever had (AND I've had cake from the Cake Boss in NJ!). This was better. Not to mention the added plus of dealing with a bakery that is progressive and supports the LGBTQ community (which I wasn't aware of when I went searching for them). That's nice considering the other bakery that was the plaintiff in the SCOTUS action 2 years ago is not that far away. Thank you, Azucar! You have earned a customer for life! If I ever get married to the man of my dreams, I'm getting the wedding cake from you!

The frosting was so light and creamy and the cake was just naturally sweet, just the way we like it. I recommend this bakery, in general, but absolutely for Wedding Cakes. Our son and beautiful bride, love offroading and wanted a unique cake that included a Ford pickup truck. This cake was amazing. The details in the truck were incredible. The "mud" was realistic, but tasted even better than it looked. The Baker delivered and setup the cake on site with no issues whatsoever. And lastly, the cake flavor was some of the best tasting cake ever. Don't go anywhere else for your Wedding Cake!

We tested German chocolate, lemon raspberry, and white cake with cream cheese and the cake section was okay. I like that they are not overly sweet. Great bakery with quality goods and their own creative flair. I sent them a few designs that I wanted for a birthday cake for my girlfriend, and they were able to do most of them as is. We ended up working out a custom design because they don't really use fondant or mirror glaze. I'm not savvy in this area, so take that with a grain of salt. They ended up substituting with ganache instead. What came out was a cake so beautiful that my girlfriend didn't want to eat it. I had to cajole her, because on up of an amazing design, this bakery also used her favorite flavor. Azúcar was instrumental in making her birthday special.

So, my partner ordered a cake for my birthday from here. He ordered a tres leches cake that was shared with myself and two other friends. The cake was horrible. It tasted like it had been ordered from Walmart (no shade to Walmart) but when you pay for a $50 cake you expect a good cake. We threw away the entire cake after having a few bites. Afterwards, we called the bakery and they gave us store credit to try and redeem themselves. We used the store credit a few months later for our anniversary. This time the cake was decent, much better than the first, but again nothing out of the ordinary (and this time the cake cost $80). Overall, not a great experience - truly overpriced for the quality, definitely wouldn’t recommend, and unfortunately wouldn’t go back.

Azucar Bakery was our first choice when it came to our wedding cake for this past June. We visited the shop on S. Broadway to do taste testings and were sold the instant we tried the gluten-free and dairy-free options. You couldn't even tell a difference and were elated that we could get so close to Paleo for our special event! It didn't hurt that everyone was so friendly and willing to work with our special requests. We chose an 8" gluten and dairy free cake that was chocolate with raspberry filling for our cutting cake and then had half of the cupcakes as "gluten-full" and the other half "gluten-free" to accommodate our guests different tastes. All of the flavors we tried were awesome, but ended up settling on the dark chocolate chip cupcake, the lemon cupcake with raspberry filling, and the carrot cupcake with maple cream cheese filling. I'm so happy we went with cupcakes. The display was still elegant and it was so much easier to serve our guests. This also offered them the option to try more than one flavor. We were expecting to pay an arm and a leg for the specialty baked goods, but it was incredibly reasonable. Marjorie did a beautiful job. We noticed that they had other gorgeous cakes when we went to visit the shop and it sounds like they have a woman there that does piping on the cakes and a lot of her expertise comes from doing henna work. Absolutely gorgeous! We highly recommend Azucar Bakery for your upcoming event. The service, professionalism, communication and product were second to none!

Azucar Bakery was wonderful. From the tasting- to the wedding everything went smoothly. At the tasting they offered us about 6 or 8 different flavors, I can't recall for sure. But they were all delicious, made for a hard decision! We ended up choosing 3 flavors (1 for each tier) We did the traditional white cake with cream cheese filling, red velvet with cream cheese filling, and the double chocolate chip which was my very favorite! Unfortunately I was so busy at the wedding, I didn't get to eat ANY of the cake :( I am sure looking forward to the free anniversary cake they offer. Azucar was on time for set up and delivery. And the cake looked exactly like the picture we showed Danielo at the tasting. Job well done Azucar! I recommend this bakery for your wedding cake, or any other baking needs!

Wedding cake tasting - A bit challenging to communicate the design we wanted because the person handling the drawing of our cake was not the person baking. Cream flavors limited. Hazelnut filling did not have much hazelnut flavor. Filling layer was too thin for our liking. General customer service was good.

Azucar Bakery produced three wonderful cakes for our wedding reception. We had a small henna-decorated cake for the head table in red and white (our wedding colors) and two larger sheet cakes for our other 150 guests. The henna-themed cake was a beautiful Indian-style design that worked great with our wedding, and we actually worked with a henna artist with whom Azucar contracts. This same henna artist, Anita, did the henna at our wedding weekend welcome reception. Getting a small grooms’ cake just for the head table was a great way for us to cut costs (our total costs were roughly $500). Everyone raved about how delicious all the cakes were. We enjoyed our tastings and got helpful guidance throughout the cake selection process. Azucar was prompt, easy to work with, communicated throughout and we loved the final product.

The good people at Azucar spent a good long time with us allowing us to taste 9 different cakes (was supposed to be 3), and going over the design we wanted. Our cake looked exactly how I wanted it to be, and tasted FANTASTIC! We chose 2 different cake types: Raspberry White Chocolate on one layer and Dulce De Leche (their Peruvian signature cake) for the other. Our guests demolished the cake - it was a big hit! Azucar includes a free first anniversary cake, so there was no need to save the top layer and store it in the freezer for a year. We will have fresh, delicious cake to celebrate with. Their prices are very reasonable, and we were impressed with their knowledge, professionalism and personal attention (as well as their exceptional baking skills). Highly recommended!

Being new to the area, a family friend referred us to Azucar. Hands down, this bakery is simply a class act. The staff is always friendly, on-time, and very reasonably priced. We've ordered baptism cakes, Thanksgiving cakes and now our daughter's birthday cake, and we make it a point to come by periodically for pastries and juices when in the area.

I live in the mountains and have a shortage of bakeries that will do a decent cake. It's down to City Market or Whole Foods - this year I wanted something different for my daughter's fifth birthday. I also had a Denver-based guest making the trek so I had a bit more flexibility with who I ordered from. I started emailing with Azucar and they were very efficient and quick to help me discover that working with them would be a breeze. We did the majority of our conversing over email save for the phone call the day before pick up, asking me if I'd like for them to complete the cake earlier than my previously scheduled 3pm. I wanted a lego themed cake and they were quick to oblige - I got the impression they would do absolutely anything they possibly could. The cake was GORGEOUS and was the hit of the party (aside from my adorable daughter). Every single guest commented on it. I had ordered some lego toys and shipped them to the bakery and they utilized them perfectly. I could not be happier with this bakery and would choose them again in a New York minute!

It is so hard to find the words to describe what a wonderful job they did for my 30th birthday cake. The cake was absolutely beautiful and delicious. It was a two tier cake with different shades of pink ruffles and the top tier with tiny gold circles. There were probably at least 100 individual circles brushed in gold. Then topped with a sugar flower. The cake was breath taking. The flavor was delicious as well, lemon with raspberry filling. Everyone raved about how good it was. They also delivered the cake to the party, it was last Saturday during the snow storm. Thank you so much for making my 30th Birthday special with such a gorgeous cake!!! (I will be back)

I went in on a Saturday for a last minute birthday cake. I got a pre-made 6" chocolate raspberry cake with ivory icing. I was helped promptly by a friendly staff member. She also helped me personalize the cake. I was put off by the price (almost $30) and was worried the cake would be dry since I didn't know when it was made (this wasn't something I called ahead to have made), but it was worth it. The cake looked very nice, tasted great, and was moist. My husband loved it. I plan to return here!

I got a cake for the babyshower of our first baby The cake was a guava cake with purple ruffles. The taste of the cake was really really good and the cake was moist. The purple ruffles were pretty they went all the way from dark to light purple. My problems was the topper. I asked them to make a polar bear hugging a baby penguin and I gave them pictures of want I wanted. Both the penguin and the bear were just horrible!!!. Nothing like the pictures I gave them. The proportions where wrong, the faces where ugly just really sad. Later my husband told me that when he went to store to pick up the cake was not ready and they did the topper at the last minute (I am assuming that is why they were so ugly), that got me really mad because I ordered the cake a month ago!!!...Furthermore, the cake was really pricey so I was expecting that it will look just beautiful....anyway good taste but the decoration was not what I was expecting for the price I payed...

Edit: I raised the review up to 3 stars as they did refund us the amount for the cake but it took a few weeks after our complaint. We ordered a baby shower cake with fondant design that we paid a high amount for. The resulting cake that they delivered was very poorly done, shabby work and no attention to detail - nothing like their typical work since we have gotten cakes from them before. King Soopers would have probably done a much better job at a third the price. It was very embarrassing for us to show up with this cake at the party but there was no alternative as we got the cake the morning of the party. After we went back to tell them about this and showed them photos of the cake, they said that they would refund the price of the cake and would send us a check home. This was not about the money as much as showing up a friend's baby shower with a horrible looking cake. Safe to say we will not be ordering a cake from them again since they have let their quality slip.Its hard to build a reputation, but extremely easy to tear it down as in this case.

I like Azúcar bakery but last visit I was disappointed with the chicken empanada, the chicken seemed shredded or I couldn’t tell and it was like a paste of veggies with chicken, not flavorful and not appealing to my eyes. I also tried the banana cake but I couldn’t taste any banana flavor not from the cake itself or the banana “pudding” filling. The carrot cake muffin was 50% raisins and although I live raisins it was a bit too much. I took home the usual the “alfajores” Peruvian cookies. Those are still yummy. Hope next time I go it doesn’t disappoint me

The pastries are excellent in an adorable shop. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is a window into the workspace where you can watch the cake decorating. It's magic in the form of sugar.
