Reviews of Firecakes Donuts
Kevin Werner
The staff is inviting and wonderful. The donuts? Awesome. Enough options for everyone. And plenty of hot and cold drink options of what you would expect for a donut shop.
There is a covered and uncovered seating area around the side of the building. Highly recommend.
Esther
Great donuts and great coffee. Awesome way to start the day. The store is small and only has room to order and pick up, but there is some outdoor seating.
Haven't tried the ice cream yet, which they're known for, so I'll provide an update when I do!
Rubin Reviews
3.5 ⭐️- Hit or miss on the flavors
We enjoyed 2 (espresso cream and buttermilk old fashion) of the 3 we shared. They were both moist and flavors were good. The 3rd (browned banana) was dry. The topping and taste was over-all good but the donut itself was almost powdery dry. We miss the glazed and infused donut that was a couple of blocks done but they closed down.

I stopped in here after many years of loving this place in college and it smelled as good as I remembered in there! I ordered the red velvet, Boston cream, vanilla iced and espresso cream. The espresso cream is my longtime love and absolute favorite! The boston cream was also delicious! The frosting on the red velvet was perfect, but the doughnut itself, like the vanilla iced, was kind of stale. Unfortunately the vanilla was inedible, so maybe they should be stored a little differently so they stay fresh even though the presentation is very aesthetically pleasing!

Shop is super tiny but they have a decent variety of donuts. No space for sitting except for tables outside. We got the ice cream sandwich donut and I have to say it was the most successful ice cream sandwich experience of my life. Surprisingly a donut is the perfect vessel to hold the ice cream in while taking a bite without the normal toothpaste tube push out the back.

Stopped by for a quick dessert when visiting Chicago. I came for donuts, but they also have coffee and ice cream. There's a glass case of about 20 ready made donuts. Person working the counter was very friendly and helpful. All to donuts looked great, but finally decided on the Churro dount and the Pistachio.
There's a nice small sitting area right outside to enjoy the donuts. Donuts tasted amazing. Very fresh, soft, and not overly sweet. I enjoy when you can taste the actual donut for what it is and not just a bunch of sugar or toppings. I wish I had more time or was hungrier as would've ordered more donuts.

Fun selection of great donuts. The cake donuts are my favorite. Light & fluffy. Not oily at all. The batter/cake has a clean flavor and would be fantastic on its own as a plain donut.

You can't leave Chicago without visiting Firecakes Donuts! My world was opened to a new level of birthday celebration tasting their donut ice cream sandwich. Now I see why Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robins teamed up! But even they can't compete with the handmade deliciousness of these donuts. Do sign up for their rewards program if donuts are your guilty pleasure.

As I walk to work, I passed Firecakes, and I decided to buy a random dozen for my co-workers. Service was good and quick. We all enjoyed the goodness of their heavenly little pastries of joy. Will be going again in the future.
Miki (NotLikeThis1)
I have nothing but good things to say about this place. The donuts were to perfection. The person who was working there was conversational and gave us amazing recommendations as well as made us some great coffee!
Brett Harrington
Tasty donuts served up quick. We got four donuts to split between the two of us and two espresso drinks. The cake donuts are dense and the raised donut is light and airy as you’d hope for. At $33/dozen the donuts are good but pricy. If you are a donut fan I doubt you’d find better ones in town.
Joshua Roy
The donut was perfection. The only reason why it's not 5 star is there was no ice cream. So we couldn't try the famous ice cream donut sandwhich. Update*** we stayed another ten minutes and the ice cream arrived. Worth the wait. We took a churro donut with vanilla ice cream. Delicious!
Tricia
Small little place that makes awesome donuts and fresh ice cream! I tried their special - the donut ice cream sandwich - with an old fashioned donut and strawberry ice cream. IT WAS DELICIOUS! This coming from a person who doesn’t really enjoy sweets!
Cabroncito
So yeah, this place is good. I just finished eating these (830 pm) and they were pretty good. I had a chocolate glazed and you could tell they were old. The chocolate glaze itself was still excellent, it's the donut batter that was a bit stale at this point in the evening. I can imagine what this would taste like if it was Friday though.
It was also nice to grab an espresso with my order.
Everyone else also enjoyed their donut selection.
If i had these fresh, i can easily imagine giving them 5*.
Ashleigh Pfriem
Best old-fashioned donut I've ever had. The chocolate frosting was generous and it was the holidays so I was able to get crushed peppermint topping as well. Yum! Also got a s'mores donut (pictured).
Casey Gehling
I visited Firecakes Donuts this morning. The menu options are limited, and the donuts are insipid. The donut ice cream sandwich wasn’t anything special. Its taste was dominated by the ice cream, and I didn’t taste the donut really. Also, the employee was very rude. She acted extremely jaded and exasperated— at 9 in the morning. Overall not a necessity when visiting Chicago.
Jay Sungvorn
I am tourist, saw the reviews, so walked there to try some donuts. I got pistachio old fashion. It was ok. The pistachio was good topping, but frosting need to be sweeter and cake part was not as moist.
Brennan Lyle
I've never thought about having a donut ice cream sandwich, but I was told that I "needed to try it", so I did. It was great! I mean, it seems hard to mess up a combination like that, but the donut was actually really tasty. It tasted much better than an average cheap donut, same with the ice cream. Try it for yourself! I got the classic honey-glazed donut with tahiti vanilla ice cream and a fudge drizzle. One thing to note, it's a very small shop and they only let 4 people inside at a time. So plan accordingly if you're going there during peak hours, you might have to stand outside.
Gordon Cacioppo
Great spot for a late night snack! Wonderful selection of donuts that are packed with flavor. Truly one of Chicago's most unique spots for a donut. Go anytime you want because they are constantly cooking fresh donuts. Highly recommended! #dontus
jey lee
Five stars!
This place is actually really good!
And the people working there are really nice.
I absolutely hate peach cobbler in all forms except for their donut. Like it's insanely good, insanely!
There was a pistachio donut in the box as well, but I immediately ate it
Jenn DeFilippis
Honestly not much of a selection and I personally thought their ice cream was better than their Donuts. The line was pretty long and I don't think it was worth the wait. On the plus side, the employees were really friendly.
Felix Zamora
Dear lord, these doughnuts are beyond incredible. We got an assortment and each and every one of them were delicious, super well flavored, and tasty. Also, the person who helped us, Eva, is super nice and helpful! We loved it so so much!!
Madelyne Bettis
Just Okay...Drove in at 7 on a Saturday morning to avoid parking problems. The lobby is small and the place is cute. The doughnuts were "just okay". Expensive but so is everything in the city. They were decorated nicely and were eye catching, but taste and flavor wise nothing special or different from a good grocery store bakery.🤷🏾♀️
Dondré
Great donuts the drink I had wasn't good though. I had the charcoal latte. Just tasted like warm milk, but the donuts were great they had a lot of unique options. It's a very small shop and when I went there was a line only one person was working so you'll need to be patient, but the donuts were worth the wait.
Frances Castaneda
When it comes to desserts, you can never be wrong if you choose donuts. It’s a sweet and you can crave more. Upon entry, you can smell the aroma. There are so many varieties of flavors to choose from. There are also different levels of sweetness. All donuts are freshly baked and you can pair it up with any drinks like coffee. You can bring your kids here and they will surely enjoy it. The prices are affordable. I will be recommending Firecakes Donuts to all of my relatives and friends who has kids. Thank you very much for excellent service.
OdysseyFan Dan
Tried a variety but some of their flavors are odd pistachio, carrot cake, and churro. Birthday cake looks great but not for $13. Churro donut isn't bad. The old fashioned was ok and Mexican chocolate old fashioned was good. I would probably try again. They were out of the dulce.
HondaPro Jason
My son and I came here late night at about 10 o'clock they still had plenty of really cool donuts there. We got in the car & couldn't wait to try them and they were amazing! We will definitely come back next time we are in the city
Aaron G
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Dough tasted great lavender was nice subtle in flavour so could do with a little sweet sauce or something
Lu Mejia
I think that the dough is not the best for a donut, but the flavor overwhelms everything! I ordered banana something ish. Delicious!
Rolo
Definitely delicious donuts and unique seasonal releases. The orange poppyseed old-fashion was great. Had that perfect citrus zest with every bite. I was a bit disappointed with the apple fritter. Although all flavors are there they dont pop like other a-fritters ive had that are crunchy yet soft; with tart apple pieces offset with the sweet drizzle. This was just ok. But well worth the visit for old-fashion cake donuts.
Andrew Korson
Excellent doughnuts. Try the blueberry lavender, it has delicious frosting and a sugar coated blueberry that bursts with flavor.
J
Really great tasting donuts and open late at night. There's lots of different flavors to try out, but even the vanilla ice flavor was amazing with an added crunch that complimented the soft donut cake inside. There is also coffee and a few other items if one is interested. Definitely would return to again and try out more flavors.
Joshua Liew Xuan
Came here in Spring 2019. Great donut selections, but I wish they were broader especially with the donut ice cream combo. Wish there were more ice cream flavors too, rather than just plain vanilla and chocolate.
Jazmin Masi
Great date spot, the donut sandwiches are brilliant.
They are fairly new and thriving because soo many people love these donuts.
I recommend the Honey glazed donut with vanilla bourbon ice cream with the local raspberry sauce.
FrancesMary Loughead
I was born & raised in the city and there are many donut shops to choose from & Firecakes is one of my favorites!
You can't go wrong with what you chose to order. They also have an app that you can order online from so you can skip the line! Every time I go in, the staff is so kind and patient. The staff was so pleasant and the donuts were so delicious, that I would stop on my way to work almost every morning before COVID.
After being home for the weekend, I knew I needed to stop by. I did and have no regrets!
Victoria Gelmi
5/5 stars all the way! Waited in line 30 minutes, but honestly it was worth it.. freshest and most delicious donut I’ve ever had! The Tahitian vanilla is their best seller, and omg it was great! Staff were friendly & helpful. I was surprised there was only 2 people working behind the counter on a Saturday morning, made coffee orders a little slower.
Ibrahim Azar
The donuts were delicious. Much better than Stan's donuts. We tried their donut ice cream but felt the ice cream lacked flavor. A great snack!
Jainif Marediya
Really good donut spot with a solid selection. Love the yeast donuts here and think they’re much better than doughnut vault although the vault has better old fashioned donuts. The only complaint I have is that this place prices by half dozen or full dozen rather than individually
M Guyer
Got the Ice Cream Sandwich on a sprinkle donut with the Raspberry Coconut ice cream. Yum!! Wanted a Bluberry cake donut with the vanilla bean ice cream, but you can only get the sandwich on a glazed, apple cider, or sprinkle donut. Super friendly donut-ista behind the counter.
Dr. Abby
A tourist must! Great ice cream and a small variety of donuts. For some reason there's a limited number of combinations of the two that you can request, but we were there pretty late in the evening.
Andrew Whitworth
I was in town for a wedding, and it's amazing to me how many of my friends and relations ended up at Firecakes. People in the hotel sitting and chatting around a box of Firecakes donuts. People drinking Firecakes coffees and hot drinks. And it's not just that people went, but that they went back, over and over again. The building itself is quite cramped, it's hard to get more than 2 or 3 people in the lobby when you're in line to order, but it's definitely worth standing outside to get the delicious treats. Highly recommend.
Shelby M
Best donuts I’ve ever had! If you walk down the street holding a box, someone might shout “Firecakes!” At you because these are also a local fave. The hot-chocolate and mochas use real, thick, rich chocolate, so don’t sleep on ordering one. The store only allows for 5 people, or one small group at a time so you might encounter a line. We seemed to get lucky and come just before the line started. It seemed easiest to get a half dozen donuts, so we went with the Pistachio Old-Fashioned, Volrhana Chocolate, Cheese Danish, Mini Espresso (filled), Mini Peanut Butter Cup (filled), and Blueberry. All were great and miles beyond most of the donuts I’ve eaten elsewhere, you really can’t go wrong here. Dare I say these are also way better than Voodoo Donut? I believe so. 15/10 recommend. Tip: no seating inside, but there’s a couple small parks in front of buildings nearby to enjoy your donuts and drinks. Just walk a couple blocks in either direction.
Mensur Duraković
This place was one of the stops when my crew had a Chicago food tour. Donuts here are much more sweat than in Europe, but it was delicious!
Eugenia Kim
We were recommended by friends to go to Firecakes instead of Stan’s donuts in our visit to Chicago. And Omg!!! This place does not disappoint. Delicious selection of donuts, ice cream and coffee. The staff was super friendly and helped us select the most popular donuts that people tend to buy at this place. Highly recommend for folks that live local or out of town to experience this place.
Hannah Mountford
Very expensive for what it is and I asked for a chi late with a shot of espresso and she had no idea what I was talking about. I also did not enjoy the taste of their chi late at all. Very bitter
Paul Garcia
Delicious donuts, but the ice cream sandwich is better! Fast and friendly service... Definitely worth a stop after dinner. Seating available outside.
Joey Lam
Insanely good! We got ours late late in the day and they still tasted fresh; moist, soft, fluffy and flavours so well balanced - and staff were super friendly! We had the honey glazed, vanilla and buttermilk ...so so good!
David Lazar
A woman at out hotel was carrying a box of Firecakes Donuts in the elevator and we stopped her to ask about them. She told us there was a new location near the river that was not too far to Navy Pier so we decided to check them out.
We went after dinner and there was a line out the door. Due to Covid, they are only allowing one group inside at a time. GET THERE EARLY. By the time we arrived, they only had one Churro donut left for an ice cream sandwich.
We bought a few Old Fashioned donuts (which are my favorite anyway) and saved them to eat with our room service the following morning. I will definitely visit again if I am in the area!
Steve Leopoldo
One of the best spots in Chicago. Order ahead to make your wait much shorter. There are a couple bistro tables up front, so seating is hit or miss. Expect a line. One of the few places in Chicago that offers both vegan and gluten free in the same donut. The staff here is golden -- fast and accommodating.
A J
I love this place!! Their donuts are definitely the best that I’ve ever tried!! Today I tried the peanut butter and jelly donut for the first time and it was delicious!! Just the right balance of sweetness with the jelly in the center. My partner loves the pistachio donut! If you haven’t tried this place, you are missing out!!
Arda Guven
The donuts are great and service even better. A little oily, but duh they’re donuts! Super yummy especially after warming them a little. We went to Firecakes during a visit to Chicago and they did not disappoint. We were there around 8:45pm so they didn’t have many options, but the ones we were able to try were delish. I loved how honest the barista was when ordering our drinks. He was phenomenal and needs a raise!
Hope Romine
Such a cool place for a late night donut or donut ice cream sandwich!! I had to get one of both because I couldn't decide. The guy working was so helpful and nice. He did let me know they close when they run out of donuts so get them while you can!
Charlotte Buchanan
Best donut EVER. We tried peach cobbler, key lime, churro and banana bread. The peach was my favorite but they were all amazing. Not too sweet and no artifical taste, not even with the banana. The counter person was wonderful, patient and helpful.
Jessie Cruz
One of the best spots in Chicago! Their donuts are amazing and they do have GF/vegan options that taste as amazing! Drinks are great, service is super fast and the staff is very kind even when there are a lot of people in line.
Abdallah “Dooly” Ismail
Walked in while I was just passing by I smelled the delicious doughy goodness and I had to walk in. This place has really top notch donuts and drinks too, stuck with a water bc it rained a bit that day so weather was acting up.
Veena Vancha
Had the pistachio and sprinkles donuts.
Pistachio felt like less pistachio flavor and more added color.
jacob cluver
This is a great donut place not just a sugar delivery system but quality baking
aditya Bajaj (Plates And Barrels)
It was a cold night, and we were walking! Coffee could have been our shelter and Firecake became the provider.
I absolutely loved the Americano. My friend had a cappuccino. We also tasted Buttermilk Donut and it was tasty (although I am not a big fan of donuts, but I can eat that again at this cafe).
Yuya Burkhart
Yummy donuts and decent price. Inside is small only counter to order. 2 small tables outside. Boutique donuts shop with fancy and interesting flavors. Decent amount of coffee choices. Got pistachio and espresso donuts along with coffee which was all delicious. Would definitely come back.
Sandy
Was under whelmed by the assortment and quality, we got the cookies and cream the glaze and the lemon drop, was most pleasantly surprised by the lemon one. Also got a Belgium hot chocolate which wasn’t very rich and tasted okay.
Viraj Mhatre
Nice little donut shop in Gold Coast/Streeterville neighborhood. We tried a few flavors like chocolate, raspberry filled, red velvet cake donut. All heavenly :) the donut sandwich with chocolate truffle icecream is amazing! Must visit. They have lots of options and you get coffee as well.
Pawnie J
I have been trying to get to this place for the last three days. Finally made it and was disappointed. I don’t understand all the great reviews. The doughnuts were just ok. Like one reviewer said, you can find doughnuts like these at the grocery.
Laura Pearson
I loved the idea of donut ice cream sandwiches, but ended up not liking it. The soft fluffy texture of the donut with the cold creamy texture of ice cream just didn’t work for me. Their donuts however are supper yummy plain! The store is really small but they have a little sidewalk seating.
Eran Dromy
Nice atmosphere, good service and great doughnuts. I tried the Vanilla glazed and the regular glazed.
The inside is small and during covid-19 only one customer is allowed inside. There are two tables each with 3 seats outside.
Yolanda Gonzalez
This was our first visit, and we had high expectations. The place was very small and clean. Due to covid they were letting in one customer at a time. There was only one server. We arrived late, it was around 8:30pm. We had two churro donut ice-cream sandwiches and one glazed ice-cream sandwich. All three with different ice-cream flavors. The ice-cream and the glazed donut sandwich was delicious but unfortunately the churro donut seemed a bit stale so that was disappointing. We think it was due to them closing at 10pm not sure. We also wanted some coffee but the server said it would take a while so, since there was a line behind us we decided not to get any. We are going to try them again earlier. If you've never had a donut ice-cream sandwiches I say definitely give them a try!
Raven R
Ordered a vanilla latte, received a straight espresso shot. The donuts are just ok, definitely wouldn't make any special trips to go here.
Carmen Lam
Small shop but delicious looking desserts. I enjoyed a peaches ice cream with peanuts covered glazed donuts. I also got a pistachio "old fashioned" donut which I didn't like because it tasted like a crumble coffee cake but my sister Loved it because it reminded her of a powdered donut. I also got a peach fritter which had a nice hint of Cinnamon sugar like a Cinnabon. The server was very friendly and helpful. He recommended the red velvet as a crowd favorite but someone bought the last 2 before I could try it. It was only 3pm so I assumed he had more but apparently he was out.
Daniel Moneta
If you're feeling guilty about the calories, don't worry. The second you get in the door, the smell of the donuts will override your rational decision-making capacity. Go with it. This isn't really a proper review, because I did not get the birthday cake donut nor the ice cream donut sandwiches, the existence of which is really all you need to know when you can stop reading now. But the pistachio old-fashioned was fantastic as was the wildflower honey glazed. The latter was like a bagel made of the most delicious fresh fluffy sweet challah you have ever had glazed in delicate honey sweetness. An unexpectedly Jewey experience for a honey-glazed donut.
John Nguyen
Everytime I come to Chicago, I always stop here for an apple Fritter and a Donut Ice Cream sandwich
Jake Boxer
Firecakes Donuts certainly lives up to its name. The donuts here are straight fire. My first bite of my vanilla frosted doughnut with the beads on top blew me away. The churro, old fashioned glazed, and others were phenomenal as well. On top of this, you can also get ice cream sandwiches made with them. Seriously a must try.
Mansi S.
I personally prefer this over the other donuts in Chicago, their flavors are so fun & also have a good selection of classics too
Sunny Chu
Donuts here we're unique and extremely delicious. The creme brulee is a must try! The top was crusty like a creme brulee and the inside was filled with custard. We also ordered the regular honey glazed (a little sweet and I was hoping for sugar but very fluffy nonetheless) and we ordered the chocolate peanut butter. Everything here looks delicious and wonderful service.
Ben Gu
Seems like this franchise has really expanded in the greater Chicago area. Never seen this before for all of my life and I grew up in the NW suburbs all my life.
Got here on Sunday morning before heading back to the city that I currently work at and wanted to give it a shot.
Cute interior, one group of customers inside at a time, and delicious food. Coffee was good, nothing crazy, but does the job.
Leah Nieman
The shop is adorable.
Customer service is excellent.
We purchased the pistachio old fashion and the Valrhona chocolate and espresso cream mini. Admittedly I had high expectations from reviews I had read. I was thrilled to see they were open until 1 am. We had a tight schedule so decided to go in the evening. The donuts were okay but they weren't fabulous. I get it... donuts are tough. Ours definitely weren't freshly made. My guess is if you hit this place in the morning, you'll get donuts that are out of this world.
Purvik Patel
Some amazing donuts. I got pistachio donut, coffee ganache and chocolate donuts. They were all delicious. The hot chocolate good too.
Alex de los Reyes
Tiny little hole in the wall with such a big personality! Traditional style donuts, mostly pretty basic with nothing too fancy, but so good! Old Fashioned Buttermilk is a true classic. Really well made and fresh. Great coffee too and friendly service. Highly recommend.
Jennifer Johnson
Absolutely delicious! I highly recommend stopping by!!!
A.C.
I've had donuts off their truck on more than one occasion, my standard go-to is their chocolate frosted-glazed donut. However, this was my first time snagging multiple donuts from these guys, and with it being the beginning of Labor Day weekend my better judgment lead me here. The location on Hubbard is a quaint in-and-out intended space, given how compact everything was. I was able to snag half a dozen donuts for $17, and was in/out within 5 minutes; donuts ordered: 2 jelly filled donuts, 1 pbj donut, 1 double chocolate donut, 1 maple bacon donut, and 1 glazed donut. All in all, I was very happy with the service and quality of the donuts, however, I will still stand by their chocolate frosted-glazed donut as my favorite.
Klaudia
Such a yummy place!!!! Love love love the donuts! Nice selection of donuts. Ordered online half a dozen for $20. Much more delicious and filling than other donut places. Definitely a must try. WILL VISIT AGAIN SOON!
Breanne
This is such a cute and fun place. The donuts are really good and I love the minis for the times you want a little sweet treat. They have several cafe drinks available and a good variety of donuts. The staff is really friendly and helpful. It's definitely for carryout as there are no tables and no room to stand around, so you grab your donuts and go. I'm happy I tried this place, it was a big win for me.
Hope Wills
So this place was interesting. I was walking around and found them in Yelp while in Chicago. I decided to order one of their ice cream doughnut signature sandwich and it wasn’t that bad. I was pleasantly surprised. Some bit of a wait though. But as you know a bit of a wait means they are popular. The only bad thing is they don’t recycle. :/
Lindsey Jay
We got the donut ice cream sandwich (churro donut, peach melba ice cream, and hot fudge sauce). It felt very decadent and sugary! The peach was also a really good, non-artificial flavor. Highly recommend!
De'Noia Woods
The churro donut is amazing! It tastes just like I was eating churro. The peach fritter was also good. You can taste the fresh peaches when you bite in. The vanilla frosted was fine, nothing special. I’d definitely go back for the churro donut when I’m in the Chicago area.
Nicole Paz
To drink I had the hot chocolate, veryyyy good. Donuts I had were orange cranberry and vanilla those were amazinggg. Check this place out!!!
Brett Kho
very crowded on the weekends, took almost 20 minutes just to get in and order. I ended up getting just to the milkshake which was quite satisfying although a bit irritating that they currently do not accept cash. it would be nice if they could add some toppings or variety to their milkshakes
Kenneth Freyer
these donuts are so freaking good. Loved how quick the service was. Also had an iced dirty chai here that was very delicious as well. Would highly recommend these donuts if you are in the area, worth a moment to pop in!
Ricky
Small donut shop, prices and donut flavors in the pictures below. I wasn't absolutely amazed, but it was still definitely good. They have a good variety of both classic and unique flavors.
There aren't any seats inside, but there are 3 two-person tables outside.
Dave Kupfrian
These donuts remind me of the great fresh donuts I had in my youth. Very fresh, light and fluffy, yet full of flavor! I'm glad we made the trip.
Paige DiFiore
SO good. The iced vanilla donut was so fluffy and tasted so fresh even though we got it an hour before closing. Blueberry one was a little artificial-tasting but overall the service and selection was awesome.
Asa Shorkey
Amazing ice cream and donuts. The donut ice cream sandwich is as amazing as it sounds, even on weeknights they are very busy and for good reason. So good!
Maryam Sepid
Nothing better than a strawberry shake on a warm summer night! Their donuts are super also delicious. Don't miss it.
David and Ruthie Wu
My coworker wanted to stop here so we went in. It's a tiny store packed with sweet goodies. I saw a sign for donut ice cream sandwich which looked tempting. Wasn't too sure how big it actually was so I decided against it. My coworker got the margarita donut which was full size. Since I didn't have dessert after dinner, I chose to try the Vairhona chocolate and espresso cream which was a mini donut. Just needed a small, sweet bite!
Even though it's mini, I still had several bites. Can't remember the last time I've had as fresh a donut as this one. Loved the chocolate on top of it and loved the espresso cream. There were a couple of bites of crunch in the cream, maybe pieces of espresso bean.
There are definitely more donuts to try there so might have to stop back.
Makai Kitchel
Great tastes and textures. There was a line out the door but it moves fairly fast so don't be discouraged. We shared a few different kinds amongst us and they were all fantastic and better than most other bakeries. Will make this a staple for visiting Chicago right up there with a Chicago dog.
Jo Bo
Just ordered an Almond Joi ice cream sandwich and the old fashioned pistachio donut. First time here and heard about how good they’re donuts are. It’s 7:43pm on Thursday. There are about 15 people waiting in line and there is only one employee. Please hire more employees or have a system in place if things get too heavy. Happier employees create better service. The food was good. Felt bad for the only employee.
Klassie Collins
This was a cute amazing find!!! Vanilla ice cream in between a glazed donut with chocolate drizzle! The other option was a raspberry drizzle. This was my first time here & had to try do to the long line down the street. It was delicious & will return asap for just the donuts! 😜 …
Ian Suskovich
Might be good right out of the fryer if you can get them that way but they were a bit dense for me. Not very fresh if you go at night either even though they are open late. Not sure why it's got such high reviews as it's just an average doughnut. Good donuts are hard to find and if that's what you are looking for I'd pass on these. This place seems to float on premium toppings but to me it's about a good base.
Cassie Everly
Firecakes is a tiny donut shop that is almost hidden, unless you're already familiar with it or are specifically heading there. Very cute inside and service was friendly and very helpful. I had the Coconut Cream donut and it was truly the best donut I've ever had. I also got a latte which was very well made. Keep in mind they do not have flavorings for coffee drinks (which was fine with me) and there are no seats or tables in the shop. I look forward to coming back here next time I'm in Chicago!
CHERYL HURST
You won't be disappointed here, the seasonal flavors are delicious and the classics are too. There's not a dry donut in the bunch. I even brought back a box to NYC, that's how great they are.
Philipp Siemons
Asked the friendly shop member which donut to take - he gave the fan favorite and his favorite. I took his favorite (Banana Braun Butter) and I liked it: not too sweet, nice banana note and a great airiness of the dough
Michael Mack
This little shop is a grab and go hole in the wall with some amazingly delicious donuts. Don't expect standard bakery prices. 4 donuts and two coffees was over $20.
Rory Craig Montero
Very good doughnuts available. Also a good selection of drinks. The only issue is there is no room to actually eat the delicious doughnuts. Definitely just an order and go location.
Jason Vasey
Amazing tasting donuts with a great selection. Really Friendly staff and cute shop. If you go to Chicago you need to try these
M Z
The donuts here were very tasty but I really wish they had more flavors!
Fei stetzwa
Omg these donuts are so moist and delicious. Will definitely be back. well worth the price lots of time and energy devoted here. Yum!
Amy Anderson
Loved these old fashioned doughnuts
Kassie Johnson
Yummy fresh donuts. Quick in and out experience. Made it back in to garage in time to get $7 parking for 15 minutes
Kealani-Nicole Young
Didn't taste very unique but very fun choices and it wasn't too busy during lunch. They have seasonal donuts that don't stay the same
Brenda Vaishnav
Cute, small donut shop with a history. Supposedly the best tasting donuts around. Got a variety and they were good. Was fun to share. No seating inside. No restroom. Coffee and water available. Ice cream donut sandwich seemed inviting but too much sugar for me. Three small tables outside with about 6 chairs total. Customer service was good. Fun to visit for a snack.
Mohamed Badaoui Najjar
What's better than a valrhona dark chocolate coated donut cut in half with a slab of chocolate ice cream in the middle. The answer: nothing.
The ice cream being another amazing layer to these tasty donuts and brings a temperature play. Enjoy sparingly though, they are a tasty arena addictive calorie bomb.
Fatma Pir Cakmak
Very delicious donuts. You can choose many different flavors. If I live close by, it would be my place for quick dessert. Coffee was just ok. I loved small malt donuts. Really good.
Varghese Philip
Simply beautiful and the most perfect donuts that me and my wife had. Can’t stop eating and there’s nothing such as sweetness overload for the donuts here. Amazing should try!!
David Jones
They run out of their good donuts quick, so get there early. It’s a small space but the donuts are amazing we had the ice cream donut sandwich. So good!
Kessashun Arthur
Firecakes is a pretty solid donut shop that has mostly unique donuts; the raised donuts are huge. The textures on the cake and raised donuts are both good, but not extraordinary. They rotate flavors every so often, but you can't go wrong with the always-present pistachio old fashioned donut. You might not be blown away by many donuts here, but they are consistently good.
Thomas Dado
We got some donuts from here as well as Stan's to compare side by side. Both are good by their own right, but Firecakes are a class above. Mad fire.
Daniel lomeli
Delicious treats! We had the ice cream sandwich that is made out of donuts and strawberry ice cream :)it was so good! Also has a fresh lemonade! Also tasty! It’s a tiny spot with a long line but it was worth it :)
Steve Pistello
All of the donuts are amazing but the double birthday donut is the best gift for a friend or coworker! I’ve gotten it for a few people and everyone always loves it -it’s adorable. The staff is always super friendly too.
veg mex
Cute place. Also, vegan and gluten free options available! Chai oat latte is a must try.
Blake Renaud
Amazing donuts. Definitely one of the richer glazes on any donut I've ever had so know that when you are ordering. The buttermilk old fashioned is good but maybe too sweet? Their normal cake donuts are the best and you have to try out the ice cream sandwiches.
Erika
Delicious doughnuts.
Honey glazed were light and fluffy. Not too sweet either - perfect!
Also got their old fashioned pistachio cake doughnut which was also well done.
Small place, but you don’t really need more room to smash a doughnut!
James
The donuts I had at 10PM Friday night might not have been the freshest. The cake donuts I had in my ice cream sandwich were a little dry. Staff were nice.
Christian Kunst
Nice small place with delicious local made donuts and Donuts - Ice cream sandwiches. Small area to sit outside and have the delicious sweets and coffee.
Krystal V.
When I tell you this place delicious, I'm telling you this place is DELICIOUS! I got the pistachio donut and it is probably the best donut I've ever had! I also got a mocha coffee which was great too! The shop is so cute and there is a covered area outside with heaters to stand and have your donut and coffee. 10/10 recommend!
Craig Hoey
Good coffee and donuts, but didn’t live up to the hype for me - I preferred sim kilau places nearby.
Joy
Adorable little donut shop. The options were quite expansive for it being a “hole in the wall,” and I’ll have to come back to try some more!
E'yen A. Gardner
Was recommended to try Firecakes while in Chicago and was not disappointed. Their glazed donut is huge and melts in your mouth. Out of the places I tried in Chicago they were my favorite.
KokLeong Tham
Best donuts I ever had. I used to hate donuts but I'll be back for more of their creative new takes on the classic donut
Adnan Baleh
One of my favorite donut places in Chicago. Their donuts are very well done and are not too sweet. My favorite donut is the pistachio but definitely like their seasonal picks.
Alicia Tull
Donuts were great! We walked the Riverwalk in the morning and finished with a box of donuts from Firecakes on the way back to the Hyatt. They were a little pricey, but nothing that you wouldn't expect from downtown Chicago. The flavors were great and the coffee hot! You can't really ask for anything more than that!
Maya Roman
What a fantastic bakery! The flavor and variety of their donuts is incredible. Although the price of their donuts is a bit on the higher side, I promise that they are worth it. They are filling and decently sized- making it worth the pretty penny. A great place to stop by for something quick on the way to work- their service is quite fast with orders! A downtown must try if you are in the area!
Olivia Y.
They have a great selection of donuts that are absolutely delicious. Very unique and a very great find while in the area. Highly recommend coming here for a dessert or snack, as their hours are great, opening early on the morning and staying open rather late, as well! Good stuff! and friendly staff as well.
MAD-TJ Travels
Visiting Chicago must include its infamous food places !! So we read about this doughnut place and paid a visit, had their signature ice cream doughnut, it was a stunner 👏. Yet to have coconut doughnut, saved for today 😋. Nice small place, lovely staff. …
the1andonly Corbin
I LOVE DONUTS! I've had donuts all over the U.S. and these are some of the best I've ever had. Firecakes has friendly service and fresh product. There are a few tables outside to relax and enjoy your tasty treats. The price is good for the quality of the donuts you get and it varies by the type of donut you purchase. I tried the chocolate hazelnut long John, butterscotch praline, and coconut cream donuts. I was not disappointed.
Joachim Rehberg
Great tasting donuts and other baked goods. Albeit a little bit pricey, they are definitely worth the money. I bought two dozens to bring into work on my birthday and my colleagues did not let them survive for very long. Maybe the best donuts in Chicago.
Vidhi Mittal
Always love the donuts and coffee here
Jeff T
The doughnuts are very tasty. You can even get a doughnut ice-cream sandwich. However, I do prefer Stan's doughnuts slightly more by taste. That said, I think Stan's is more pricey.
David Sun
At the time of writing, due to Covid only one party is allowed in the store at a time. There is a small seating area on the sidewalk outside.
Their ice cream flavors were delicious and unique - blueberry lavender and peach melba.
Ahmet Oğuz Atlı
Their buttermilk donuts have a nice salty and sweet taste, but the glazed round donuts were not that interesting. Tasted the same as Dunkin Donuts to us.
Clara Baggett
Tiny, adorable little donut shop with tasty options. Their old fashioned buttermilk donut is exceptional. Keep in mind there is no where to sit in this place since it’s so small though. The vanilla donut with petals is delicious as well!
Katy Nichin
This is a pretty darn good donut. I’m not a big donut person (hence the plain choice of glazed), but I was very impressed with the soft, fluffy and flavorful donut. It’s one of the top ones I’ve tried in the city!
James Chan
Pretty tasty donut what can I say. Would definitely recommend to checkout. Friendly service and good selection of donuts.
Amanda
Amazing! The coconut donut was my favorite.
Grant Koertner
Awesome! Very delicious donuts. The cherry fritter had a crisp outside and soft inner filled with fresh cherries. So good!
Mika Niels Schröder
Good selection of donuts and drinks. My cherry fritter and Chai latte were both very good. Would gladly visit again
Cristine C
Asked for recommendation & staff suggested the Vanilla Donut. So tasty! You can really taste the vanilla. Price is on the higher side but it's worth it.
Antonia Calderon
I watched a Food Insider review video about the best donuts in every state. Firecakes was rated the best donuts in Illinois. I Googled the address, but didn't read any reviews before visiting because I didn't want to influence my opinion about the donuts, until I personally tried them. I had showed my husband the large and varied menu of donuts; we had high expectations. My husband and I visited this small, sort of fancy shop for the first time on January 1st 2021, at about 10:00 am. Only 1 to 2 people are allowed inside at a time. You can only order and go. There was actually a limited amount of donut options (about 15), compared to the menu on the website. I felt VERY disappointed! We ordered a dozen: Wildflower Honey Glazed, Valrhona Chocolate Iced, Tahitian Vanilla Iced, Jelly Bismark, Coconut Cream, Cinnamon Roll, Red Velvet Cake, Orange Poppy Seed, Valrhona Chocolate Espresso, Pinapple Coconut Fritter, and I think a Triple Rich Chocolate Cake. We tried them all, each one of them was soft, DELICIOUS, and with great texture. However, I felt that they were a bit expensive (I am NOT a cheap person). Firecake donuts are delicious, no doubt, but not incredibly different from Stan's donuts. My daughter loved Firecake donuts, she thinks that they are THE BEST. We all loved the cinnamon roll! My husband, my son and I think that they're great but a bit pricey, and it's not worth it to go all the way there for just a cinnamon roll. We may stop by to get some donuts, IF we happen to be around the area, but we could get Stan's donuts for the same great taste, about the same price, and closer to home. For a simple donut craving, I'd settle for Dunkin Donuts.
Firecakes has a decent amount of coffee choices, but again, I think they are too pricey; that's why I didn't want to get any.
The shop looked clean. The cashier was pacient and nice enough.
Wishing you a safe, healthy and succesful 2021!
Kelly Buchanan (kelleehasclass)
Delicious! Great variety and service. Very tiny space so don't get intimidated by a line. Bacon pineapple was on point.
Katie Weidner
blueberry lavender and cinnamon roll donuts were voted the grouos favorites.... very cakey donuts with great texture and flavor
A A
This is one of the little gems in the city, always love stopping by for my sweet fix. The Hazelnut long john is extremely delicious, and the ice cream doughnut sandwich is out of this world, two of the best things combined together! In the cold weather a nice Belgian hot cocoa just changes completely your mood. I always bring friends and family visitors to get a little piece of this place.
Amy Wang
Valrhona chocolate glazed was delicious, the pistachio old fashioned was a bit sweet for my taste and not as soft as I like my old fashioned donuts.
Vidya Bodepudi
It's a small shop with not many offerings. The seasonal apple cider donut.....didn't taste like why you'd think. More bland and sugar than anything. Same with the peanut butter donut (which was more just the butter than the peanut flavors) as well as their donut wholes. Which are cream filled. Buyers beware.
Heeju Hong
Not cheap but delicious
Meg Alpha
While the flavors were good, not disappointing by any means, they didn't really stand out like I hoped. Seems to be a place for tourists, but was kind of a disappointment. No where to sit inside.
Frank DeMartino
Located on a busy street in downtown Chicago, Firecakes serves up some of Chicago best doughnuts, including classics such as buttermilk doughnuts to more adventurous offerings such as bacon and pineapple chocolate donuts, and pralines and cream. From a moving car it is difficult to spot (it is only a tiny storefront) but once you see the cute little outdoor patio you know that you have arrived. this is hands-down one of Chicago's best doughnut places!
Matthew L. Kelly
I was in River North looking for something sweet and I came across this place. I got there almost at closing but the employee Joshua with the hat looked out. I grabbed a glaze and a chocolate covered and these were absolutely some of the best doughnuts I’ve had in Chicago. I definitely recommend especially for a late night snack
Victor Costa
Great little donut shop, everything we tried was delicious. My favorite was the pistachio old-fashion donut. 🤤 …
Anisha Rickers
Great donuts and pretty good tea too.
Vinida Souri
Cute little place with some seats outside. Classic glaze was great. Margarita was SOOO GOOD. Coffee was also good with some good selections. I also bought my soon to be niece/nephew a onesie from there!
Quan Le
Great donut. Delicious cream filling. The donut is fluffy and freshly made every day. A warm donut stuffed with ice cream and hot chocolate sauce is incredible. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Tanvi Raman
I had the Belgian chocolate Icecream with the triple chocolate donut and the bourbon caramel sauce. It was divine. The iced latte and fresh orange juice were really good too!
Richie Guzior
This place is awesome. Fresh BIG and little donuts and a good variety! Never disappointed.
Rylee Roquemore
Delicious donuts! The closing employee last night was incredible, can’t recall his name though. Yummy donuts!
Kara Monroe
Great little donut shop. They also have great coffee. The specialty offerings each season mean there is always something new to try. I haven't found anything I don't like yet.
Liv Lo
Tiny shop with some outdoor patio space. First impression is that the service was "meh" with limited donut selection. However, asides from the donuts on display, they also have more in the back (like the mini donuts!) The donuts itself were delicious, not as sugary sweet as you may initially imagine it to be however, they lost a star bc of their customer service.
Wander_Woman
So, so good. Def pricey (with delivery charge, taxes and tip, we got two cold brews and 11 donuts for just under $70) but it was worthwhile indulgence. These are not your corner store bakery donuts, they are a taste experience! The wildflower honey glazed were my fave, my daughter loved the Tahitian Vanilla.
J Henderson
Store was next to our hotel and we love to visit local shops instead of chains when out of town. Place had amazing donuts. There was always a line so went early one morning. Donuts did not disappoint!! Very good!! Cant wait to try the donut ice cream sandwiches next time!
Brent Lowry
Awesome donuts! But standing room only. Only drawback, everything else is WONDERFUL! (try the pistachio old fashioned, you won't regret it!)
Jess
Absolutely loved this place! The ice cream donut sandwiches were amazing.
Brian Mccombs
First time here and the experience was good. We visited here on 030622. The staff was Friendly and the doughnuts were good. There wasn't a large selection however compared to other doughnut🍩 shops. The prices were also a little on the high side but that's to be expected in the city. A specialty doughnut is 4.95$. I highly recommend the vanilla and the galzed.
Torrance Evans
Soooooo good! Get there early to get the one you want. Otherwise you will still get an amazing donut.
Justin Munafo
Really helpful making selections. I'm from out of town, and would recommend a donut here for sure. The vanilla icing was great, and the strawberry mascarpone was excellent.
John Vogt
Amazing donuts. We got 4 donuts for 3 people and all 3 of us agreed that these were some of the best donuts we had ever tasted. The coffee was good, not great. It can get super busy and the area inside is only big enough for one group to order at a time, so be patient.
C H
Great mocha and donuts! Also had the honey-glazed.
Jason Biggs
Love the quirky location and the take-out window. The concept is great. Execution was average - it's a pretty regular donut cut in half with regular ice cream spread in it, nothing that would blow your mind. Still, after dinner this place really hit the spot and glad we came across it.
Kyle
I don't think I can explain how amazing these donuts are. The donuts melt in your mouth like cake and ice cream its so amazing. I would definitely recommend the classic vanilla.
Jimmy S
This is an ok place. We went late, around 11pm, and they didn't do shakes anymore and had limited selection of donuts. The donut we bought was good, not great. Same thing with the hot chocolate. The vegan raspberry coconut ice cream was really good. The service was ok. I felt a bit rushed out of there.
Kai DeBus
We ordered a churro donut with peach ice cream and chocolate fudge drizzle. Delicious!
Jeff Lareau
Gourmet donut places have been all the rage for a few years, but this is really the only place that makes the trend worthwhile, in my opinion. I've never been let down by any of the donuts we've gotten here.
Scott Dinin
So enjoyable... I liked their whole thing .. great donuts ... I am going back very soon
Idalia Nunez
I always bring friends and family visiting town to get donuts here. The hot chocolate and charcoal latte are both good. I love the walk-up window so I can swing by while I walk my dog.
Kat Yunker
Best old fashioned donuts in town, and the Orange poppyseed can't be missed!!
Angelique Brown
I don’t think it quite compares to Do-Rite. The yeast was pretty dense and the old fashioneds were a bit stale. Overall okay!
Rosy G
Donuts, ice cream, coffee..need I say more? Fun little shop that I stumbled upon on my walk. Treated myself to a raspberry filled donut then happily made a mess eating it as I walked. This is not a sit down place, just order at the counter and go. I liked it :)
Denise Nickerson
Check out their Tahitian Vanilla and Pistachio Old Fashioned donuts. You can thank me later. (:
Leah R
Definitely wish there was a larger selection at the time we went to grab donuts which was ~3hrs before closing. The donuts were still great. Ice cream donuts were even better 🔥 …
Karen Renata
Absolutely fantastic donuts! Have totally denounced my old mainstay. Will only eat these from now on!
Allison Carrington
Came here while I was in town at the recommendation of my brother and I don’t regret it! The donuts were so delicious. And I feel like it should be a crime selling donuts that good! I tried the vanilla donut which surprisingly was my favorite. Their honey glazed donut was just okay to me. I also tried their sticky caramel roll which was nice. My only complaint is that for this location you pretty much only can park on the street which you have to pay for.
tom bailey
The staff aren’t particularly quick at serving. Due to the 1 group restriction you can easily be waiting 10 / 15 minutes to get a donut. I would love to put 1 star but the donuts are actually really good, so they will get a 3.
Michael Santelia
Great donuts and coffee here. Highly recommend.
Daniel Pango
I like donuts that are not too sweet. If you like them the way I like them, this is a place for you as well. 🍩 …
Emily Hellesen
My favorite donut shop in Chicago. Best in class! Try the charcoal latte to detox or the espresso creme mini donut for a treat. Family owned and operated. Best local business you can find. Love this place.
Ayana Short
Soooo yummy! We ordered about a dozen donuts and each of them were delicious! We couldn’t finish the box but we tried them all and not a single one disappointed. We also got lattes which were delicious. We are from out of town and were visiting friends. Our friend had never tried this place before and now they’re hooked. You must try!
Sydney James (lusyd)
Delicious donuts and super close to many hotels as a great breakfast for travelers on the go! Loved their espresso filled donut so much. Have never had such a delicious filled donut in my experience
Bridget Houser
Delicious and great vibes inside! The people were friendly and it seemed very well-run (filling many to-go orders while I was there). A bit pricey but I expected that as they are a specialty doughnut shop. They also had one vegan, gluten-free option which I tried and was good!
Katie Witherspoon Kellogg
Really loved Firecakes take on donuts! Nice that they have old fashioned/classic versions for those folks interested, but I like their craft donuts even better. The Tahitian Vanilla iced was absolutely scrumptious.
Yoseph A. A.
A delightful donut shoppé nestled in the heart of Chicago, it was a joy to stop here after a long day and grab two donuts which were exceptional.
I had the pistachio buttermilk old fashioned and the gingerbread. Both were perfectly garnished and tasted well prepared.
Even though the interior of this location is small, it's still perfectly cozy and with just enough space to enjoy your donuts quickly on the premises, lest you brave the windy winter atmosphere of Chicago like I did.
Would highly recommend this place and look forward to returning some day!
Alexandria Yaddow
So delicious and fresh. We got a gluten free/vegan chocolate, lavender glazed and a cinnamon roll and they were perfect! Not too sweet and perfect consistency. The customer service is so lovely here.
Иван Зимнухов
I never understood donuts before I tried Firecakes. I mean, they're usually not that tasty and at the same time all that sugar fried in grease feels like you're doing a lot of damage to your body. Well, Firecakes are different. Buttermilk old fashioned is delectable, worth anything – and they apparently change the oil pretty often as there's little to no greasy aftertaste. Works on everyone, too. I've never seen my brother finish a filled donut and he had two here. My vegan friend is conflicted every time, she says glazed buttermilk is good enough for her to forget about being vegan; luckily there's a proper option.
Having visited for 2021 Chicago Marathon, I thought I'd probably never come to Illinois again in my lifetime, but they didn't have chocolate glazed old fashioned this October. So I'd have to visit again...
Saily
Heavenly donuts! The mini chocolate iced espresso were out of the world. It was a chocolate blast in my mouth. I was lost in it! Coffee was good too.I will definitely visit again and try the other menu items.
Raymond Burt
Sure, their doughnuts are good, and I'm told that their coffee is as well (I've avoided caffeine dependence thus far). But what you really want is a cinnamon roll. Giant glazed pastries, pillowy and lightly spiced, crowned with whipped mascarpone frosting... drool.
Deirdre Kucaba
Donuts are always delicious. The red velvet is one of my favs when they have it. The pineapple upside donut was good this time.
Megan Strand
Pretty good donuts, slightly more expensive then other donuts in the area. A TINY shop, and in Covid times only one costumer at a time. It’s pretty popular so if you are short on time this might not be your dream destination. The plain glaze is really good and I use that as my test donut.
Ashley Cox
The Donuts were good, not the best I ever had. However, the idea of ice cream sandwich with a donut is genius. And they have that down perfect. Ice cream was perfect. Got the glasses with vanilla ice cream and Raspberry sauce. Yum.
Alex Weller
Old fashioned buttermilk is perfect. Decent coffee as well.
Lance Hassan
They don't get nearly as many kudos as they deserve. They are the best in Chicago.
Safa
Great donuts and okay ice cream sandwiches. I've had better donuts but these are perfect if you want to satisfy a craving. This was the first time I tried donut ice cream sandwiches and I was a little underwhelmed. Seemed like ice cream was frozen into pre-cut squares that they just put inside a sliced donut. Nothing wrong with that technique but the ice cream just seemed very icy, hard, and kind of flavorless. I wouldn't go there for the ice cream or the ice cream sandwiches. Good for donuts though.
Scarlett
Ice cream Sandwich is really great! I tried both of Peach ice cream and Chocolate ice cream, Chocolate is way better! go with Chocolate Ice cream & Glazed Donut
Urban Traveler
One of the best places for getting crispy and crunchy donuts in Chicago
Sarah Liz
I am not traditionally a big donut fan but these are amazing!
Jason Mok
I stand by this statement: Firecakes is the best donut shop in Chicago. The buttermilk old fashioned is so perfectly balanced. Other shops are good (mostly, except Stan's), but none of them have your trust of choosing any donut on display and knowing that it'll be great.
Nick Bibs
Very small place, felt hurried, and no place to sit to enjoy the food. Had to stand at a flower planter to eat. The donuts were good.
Alexander Angulo
Great donuts in town, love them..!
Ling
Doughnut is yum, staff is friendly.
(No place to seat btw)
Sammy Wallworth
Very pretty and good tasting donuts. Lovely staff.
Jayaraman Family
Nice quaint donut store. The service was very warm and welcoming. The prices are on the higher end so this is a speciality donut shop. The donuts were quite good. The donut ice sandwich was a novelty and thoroughly enjoyed by us.
Candice Stroman
Their oat latte was awesome and customer service was awesome. The donuts were good, especially the churro donut. We tried one of everything.
Ishita Batra
Lovely doughnuts and even more lovely experience meeting James :)
Steve P
LOVED their donuts! Absolutely loved how the donuts here were varied in types and flavors, but also the quality of the donuts as well. Had some of the traditional glazed donuts and the butterscotch praline and they practically melt in your mouth. You could tell they were made fresh, and I only wish there was more time to buy and try every other variety and items they sold, but will definitely be coming back here when visiting Chicago.
samuel Guevara
I love firecakes! James, Brian, Ozie, Lou and Eva are all great!
Cin Mo (Clark)
Amazing donuts!
Highly recommend.
I LOVE that they had a traditional sprinkle donut, but if you also want something different they have a great selection. I bought myself the bacon + pineapple and orange poppyseed donuts. Both were honestly very delicious and unique blend of flavors. Plus, the prices were fair, very affordable.
The Creative One
Good donuts. I think if they were warm the donuts would have been even better, but they were still good.
Demitri Giovanni
Pretty outstanding donuts. When I went there, they weren't set up for donut ice cream sandwiches, so the kids were slightly disappointed. There's quite a line in the mornings, but it's worth the wait.
Dalton Gorsuch
Joseph and Ozie are the best! They hooked me up with some gluten free donuts! Cannot recommend this place enough! They definitely deserve a raise!
Scott Chauncey
My favorite donuts in Chicago. Hands down.
TheRealMenTalk
Very good doughnuts. The honey glaze and apple fritters were delicious.
Fast service. Its a must to try.
Michael A
Who ever loves dessert would love Fire Cakes Donuts. I must admit that it did not come across as anything more than an ordinary donut shop. It is a very small place but I am happy I walked in and tried the pistachio donut and the donut ice cream sandwich. It was difficult to choose because the smell in the air was enough to make anyone want to buy one of everything. I was happy with my choice and will be going back for more. Overall amazing delicious creations!!!
Aaron Mills
You can’t go wrong with combining donuts and ice cream! Stopped her when some friends suggested it and was not disappointed. They offer different combinations of both donuts and ice cream, which is going to make you want to try them all. Only complaint is this place is super tiny and does not offer any indoor seating, so we had to eat outside which only had three tables and a few chairs. I’d suggest getting it to go and walk somewhere with it.
Rockin Bettie
We came from Vegas and specially went out of our way for this shop and doughnuts. We were there by 11am. There was already alot of stuff sold out. We were happy to get our ice cream doughnut sandwiches anyway. BUT the customer service was horrible. She gave us the wrong doughnut then what we ordered and forgot the Carmel sauce we paid for. And the girl was soooo rude! Sadly we won't come back because of it. Just thought you should know.
Siffat Kohli
Excellent donuts with a variety of donuts ranging from classic to more interesting and unique flavors! The Maple Bacon was my personal favorite and I loved the cream filling it had!
Paige Bradley
The coconut cream doughnut is insane! Definitely a must visit on your next doughnut shop crawl.
Mike Stone
My favorite place for donuts downtown. I always bring my friends and family there for coffee and donuts whenever they visit. The classic buttermilk donut is by far my favorite and a good one to pick if you are unsure of what you want. The coffee there is also really good. There is not one person who has visited me downtown who I have not taken to firecakes, great staff, great selection, and really good donuts.
Janushan Sasitharan
Amazing donuts, would recommend the ice cream donut sandwich.
Saul A. Rivera
The cinnamon ice cream was awesome you could taste the fresh flavor. The dounts were fresh as well. Limited menu items due to it not being summer. Wanted the churro with the ice cream. No parking had to park on the street... had to circle block about 4 times.
Timothy Pietrzak
Very delicious donuts. Extremely flavorful
Jim Alourdas
We had 12 different donuts. The best were the traditional glazed ones but overall pretty good
Cara Isaacs
They have a small but delectable selection. We bought the butterscotch praline donut. It was twice the size of a normal donut. It was absolutely delicious. It was a rich and sweet flavor. The cream filling was perfectly distributed throughout the donut. Only downside to this place is that there is nowhere to sit.
Jayshri Jaykumar
So popular, it didn't disappoint me . Their ice cream sandwiches , yes it's so good on a hot summer afternoon.
Adam Ryba
Whelp this gets a quick “favorite” from me! Those old fashioned donuts are fantastic. We had basically no wait, mid morning on a Monday.
Andrew Johnson
Delicious pastry and perfect pull on the doubleshot. Looking forward to treating my customer with a big box of these tomorrow morning.
Gabe Quaglia
Took a few tries to get there, but made it today. It was well worth it. Got the cinnamon roll and it was soooo delicious. One of the best frostings I have had ever on anything. Very rich and cream cheesy, yet it was super smooth and light at the same time. Cant wait to return and try another one. My biggest regret is I can no longer hammer 3 or 4 donuts in a sitting so Ill have to return.
T K
The doughnuts are good but definitely not worth $3.50 each. And they don't accept cash, which is pretty irritating
Nikcolus Herrera
They're awesome especially Jessica she is the best!
Zara Arif
Honestly, Chicago has by far the best donuts I've had. Every bakery I walked in randomly and tried their Donuts were so good. I can't look at Donuts the same way in Toronto. I dreamt of them for days.
Unfortunately, I discovered this place on the morning of our drive back. I bought a whole box of their donuts and had them on the road. I wish I had discovered them before for the sake of seconds! When we crossed the border, the border security laughed pretty hard when we replied with "Bringing a box of donuts with us"! Such a Canadian thing to do.
My favourite was Red Velvet! Perfect sweetness and the cream cheese icing was so good.
Other suggestions; Valrhona Chocolate and Espresso Cream, Buttermilk Old Fashioned, Chocolate Hazelnut Long John & Malted Milk Ball.
I can't believe I discovered them on my last day in Chicago. They set the bar for Donuts so high.. I can't find anything good enough in Toronto.
Please start delivering in Toronto or open a location here! I randomly message anyone visiting to Chicago to grab some and bring back for me! hahaha!
Ashley Beckord
Love this shop! Their donuts are some of the best in the city, with amazing filled and classic options. Chocolate hazelnut long john, peanut butter and jelly filled, and honey glazed are some of my faves, but you really can't go wrong.
Neamen Lewis
These donuts are delicious! I ordered a normal glazed donut as well as the old fashioned donut. The donuts were nice and fresh. The store is a bit small as there were about 5 people in there and it was a bit tight. The staff was very nice and offered their recommendations of their top donuts.
Misael castaneda-soto
Their donuts that are cake based are good but the regular donuts were dry. Hot chocolate was good maybe next time we’ll try their ice cream donut sandwiches give it another try.
Naveed Rahman
No nonsense, extremely-small-can-barely-even-fit-a-line-of-4-people kind of donut shop. Given the size though, the donut selection was quite expansive...huge, actually cake sized Birthday Cake donuts to small bite sized peanut butter cup donuts?!
Highly recommend for any fans of desserts in general to check out.
Autumn Henze
Best place for a late night donut! The store itself is very small, but they do offer outdoor seating during the summer. My favorite donut is the Old Fashioned. They have a good variety, including bacon topped and ice cream, last time I was in. Worth paying the price for the quality.
Christian Stojanov
Best donuts in Chicago! Their donut ice cream sandwiches are out of this world good!! If it's your first time visiting Chicago, check them out! They have a few locations scattered throughout the city if you don't happen to be downtown.
J. Schwan
The clerk barely gave me enough time to look at the selection before closing out my order and getting onto the next person... but their donuts are SO GOOD!
Nicole Brown
Unbelievably fantastic flavors in their donuts, you have got to go there!
Damian Arthur
Great Donuts. I had the salted caramel and the chocolate peanut butter..very sweet as Donuts often are.
I am swapping to Keto and its my last bit of sugary carbs 😂😅😂 Very nice selection though. 🤗
Cherie Frémine
Only tried one donut so maybe need to go back but for the moment preferred Stan's Donuts.
Matt Zambrio
I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that the fresh donuts are better than the ones I bought around 530pm. The donuts were good but not the best donuts as I read somewhere. Maybe in downtown Chicago but I had better donuts the following day at a coffee shop (see my other reviews)
It’s a small place but they have a good selection of donuts with unique options and the staff is very friendly. I would check it out again if I’m in Chicago.
HAMID A
Still my favorite donut place in Chicago. The expresso donut was unique 👌🏽 really enjoyed the small size donuts 🍩👍🏽 …
Kiara Williams
This place was great! Even though it is small there is a holistic quality and service that made it worth an extra walk in the cold. The lady even held one aside for me because I was stuck at work and explained my plight.
The donuts? Talk about gourmet. I had the vegan, gluten free donut of the day (I have dietary restrictions) and let me tell you, although it wasn't a traditional style of donut it was divine! I usually don't like coconut but that was on special. I've never had such a craving for coconut. I will definitely be returning!
Kahmalia-Kalee Sada
Excellent service from Elliot the ice cream donut sandwich was amazing. Shared it with my boyfriend and it was more than enough! The donuts were fresh and yummy! Nice quiet place with the best customer service. Great out of down experience thanks again Elliot.
Marc-Louis Paprzyca
Donuts were good but not great. I had a pistachio old fashioned and really couldn’t taste any pistachio on it. The malted milk ball donut disappointed as it just tasted like a Boston Creme. I did like the peanut butter cup but 1/3 isn’t a great average.
I much prefer Do-Rite, Donut Vault or Stan’s in Chicago.
Marc Desciscio
Firecakes always has amazing detailed craft focused donuts. This location is super easy to get in and out of. I prefer it over the Lincoln Park one simply because it's is smaller quantier if that is a word. with Covid part deuce they are limiting one party in the store at a time (which I love). But they also have a little walk up window in the alley. So you don't have to go in, you can just walk through the walk through window. Ps I wonder if you can buy the big jars of Skippy peanut butter they have displayed on the shelves.
Anyways get in and get you some coffee and fire donuts. 🔥🔥
Manuel Garcia
fire cake donuts always come thru. The location isn't huge but it makes for faster service in my opinion. A small cute donut shop with a great selection on donuts. I usually go for the vanilla that has crunchy pearls on top and a Chai latte which was super good in the cold weather. When I'm back in the Chi this is where I'm going.
Stephanie Piepenburg
Stepped in to grab a couple donuts for dessert. Everything about the place was a wonderful experience. Andre, the gentleman working, went above and beyond to make our visit exceptional. PS - They make 6 (only six) gluten free, dairy free donuts each day that are fabulous, so get there early or call early if you have food allergies.
Beth N
Always a nice treat, their chocolate glazed donuts pair well with their bomb ass hot chocolate (with homemade marshmallow!) The drink is not too sweet itself, but I always ask if it's possible to lessen the sugar. The chocolate glaze is not overly sweet, but is rich. The choc. glaze donut isn't entirely coated in icing/glaze, which I prefer sometimes when I don't want a sugar bomb. For all the other times I feel like a typical sugary donut, they have plenty of other selections to choose from to satisfy those cravings.
K
Tiny shop with huge flavors. Donuts were great. Could have been better if the guys were nicer.
Aaron Farris
Great iced coffee. Nutty flavor. And I had the pistachio old fashioned donut, which was awesome.
Keith Gregory
Awesome donut shop alert!
This place is tiny, but don't let that cause you to pass it up. The donuts served here are absolutely delicious and the service is great. I will be making this a part of my regular downtown routine.
Ahdab Eskandar
I just love everything here
Have Been a customer for 8 years
Indigo Monroe
The treats this place hits home run after I consume Ramen-San. I also eat their confectionery in the morning.
The clerks are nice. If I had children or roommates, they would inherit my affinity for this place and I would have to hide their confectionery for myself, lest I wake up the next morning and they are all gone.
Cedric McCay
Amazing creations here! I am a fan of peanut butter and this places makes an amazing filled donut. Recently, I was encouraged to try one of their new creations with Nutella and hazelnut creme... I hesitated and the staff offered me one 'on the house'. Really smart move. Truly excellent donut! I'll be back. With friends. It's a tiny space, but the place is beautifully organized and decorated inside. Highly recommended.
Justin Rice
This is hands-down the best Donut Shop I have ever been too...... During my visit in Chicago my girlfriend and I stopped at this shop which is the hidden gem in Chicago. It is super small and is easily missed since it's located in the heart of the city
We had their Specialty Glazed Donut Ice Cream Sandwich which is a Glazed Donut cut in half with a Vanilla Ice Cream Sheet in the middle. Think of it as a Dessert Burger. The donut was amazing and it an absolute MUST whenever you're in Chicago.
Joe S
They make some really good donuts. I am personally a fan of the old fashion and the churrio donuts. They open early and the staff can start your morning off nicely with friendly smile and helpful suggestions. I seem to visit this place multiple times in a week. Love me some fresh donuts!
Audrey Rose Gutierrez
We had chocolate, GF/vegan donuts from here. They were very tasty and decadent, coated in chocolate and topped with crispy, toasted coconut flakes.
While I love cake donuts, and it's great that they were so thoughtful as to consider people with special dietary needs, I would love to see more donut shops serve a vegan donut that is more similar to a classic, yeasted donut in the future.
Mayank Gondnale
Undoubtedly one of the best donuts for their taste, quality and variety in the area and probably in Chicago! Their Hot Chocolate is amazing as well.
Keenan “K David” Browder Sr
Some of the best donuts I've ever had in my life and I love donuts. Initially was going to go to another place but they were sold out. Came here and they were overflowing with donuts still. I had a glazed donut and the apple fritter and they both were huge and delicious.
N Cham
Love this place. My husband and I found this place about four years ago and visit Chicago 2 times a year. We have to stop here every single trip! The pistachio donut is our absolute favorite!
Plamena Angelova
Very delicious doughnuts and good service!
Giuseppe Speranza
The donuts....out of this world delicious!! 🤤
I did wish there was space to sit and enjoy a coffee. …
Marissa Hastings
This morning I ordered 2 cinnamon rolls and 2 donuts through Grubhub. The cinnamon rolls were amazing! I’ve eaten a lot of cinnamon rolls in my life, and this had to be the best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had in my life. The cream cheese frosting was amazing and the donut was so fluffy.
Jess Mean
These donuts play on almost all of your senses – sight, smell and taste. I almost didn't want to bite into my chocolate and espresso confection for fear of musing up the beautiful glazed but I'm glad I did! The donut tasted exactly like a rich European espresso and I look forward to trying additional flavors (after swimsuit season ends).
Shannon Kelly
Outstanding donuts! I went twice in a two-day visit to Chicago. The line moves quickly, so don't let their popularity/the short wait deter you. Our group's favorite was the large donut with the white frosting!
Jaclyn Menendez
I did not expect to be so impressed by this place, but it was hands down the best donut I've ever had. I tried classic buttermilk and churro. The buttermilk was phenomenal--such clean flavors and perfect texture. The churro was great but the buttermilk was an easy favorite. Wish I had tried more and would return in a heartbeat!
Marwan Mz
Freshly packed donuts "local dounts" amazing taste
.. amazing how they food taste the same over the years .. they always have an improvement in the menu .. keep up the good work guys
Valerie Knapp
Nice enough donuts but overpriced
Rocio Hurtado
Donuts amazing, ice cream ok, but I usually don't like donuts but these are so delicious. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
David Candelario
Donuts with ice cream were super good.
& tasty! The lady who attended us was super nice and sweet. Loved the design and the location. Great prices as well! Definitely a spot to come to for a bite of some quick sweets!
Stephen Enochian
Always love visiting new donut shops and was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this while visiting Chicago. The staff were accommodating despite some shortages at the end of night and were engaging in helping customers pick between various dessert options. Really looking forward to trying more of their creations. Of note, small interior so expect to eat outside in the seating area or get it to go.
Desmond Martin
Delicious donuts in the heart of downtown. I love the attention to detail Firecakes puts into each donut they make. All of the ingredients are authentic and they're made in a way that doesn't take short cuts. They're ready throughout the course of the day and you're definitely getting what you pay for. The shop is small but the selection is usually extensive and everything tastes amazing.
Nick Teal
Great for a late night donut, but they were out of the honey glaze! The traditional style was fantastic. Want to go back and try the honey glaze.
Michael
Consistently great donuts. Good Coffee (La Columbe). Also open late 🌃 …
Tara Olivares
My entire family is in love with these donuts!
Charlie Gordon
This place doesn’t really live up to its name, as I noticed no fire either inside the store nor the donuts. That isn’t to say I was upset to find this out, as I am neither a fan of literal fire, the Chicago Fire soccer team, nor the metaphorical fire often associated with spicy or hot food. All that being said, I got this rhubarb fritter thing that I really enjoyed, as well as trying a bite of my friend Zach’s honey-glazed donut which was quite good as well. Overall: 4/5, pretty good.
Erica Williams
I enjoyed the donuts at Firecakes. I tasted the apple fritter donut, which had chunks of apples inside (I love apple desserts). Also tried the butterscotch praline (which was quite tasty, and the filling wasn't too sweet), and the vanilla donut - the frosting was nice and creamy. Reminded me almost of a cake frosting. I ended up eating 3 donuts in one day, and thinking to myself that I'm going to get fat - who eats 3 donuts in one day? Watch yourself when you go there - I called myself having a "donut tasting" and ate 3 whole donuts! Be very careful.
If I'm in River North, and I walk by Firecakes, I will probably stop in and pick up a donut. Out of the donuts I tasted, my favorite is the vanilla. I'll try some of the other flavors, but I'll have to only get one donut at a time. Those donuts are dangerous, I tell ya- DANGEROUS!
Steven Micklewright
Great tasty donuts and a selection where there is something for everyone. You will not be disappointed 👍 …
Nathaniel Franklin
Some of the best donuts I've had. Always top quality and great flavors/ variety Anytime I am in chicago, I always stop in to get some and try the seasonal flavors. I only wish I could make it out to the oak park location and try thier chicken sandwiches.
Melinda Oberly
It's a must stop for any trip to Chicago. The donuts are delicious!
Marcela Padgett
Their donuts were delicious! We had an assorted couple and loved their creme brûlée one. Get 4/5 cause they were out of options and we didn't get to have what we were looking for but overall great place. Nice staff
이경민
couldn't find why these donuts are special compared to others. It was okay, (how donuts can be not good anyway?)
Ryan
Freaking amazing. The donuts are top notch and don't even get me started on the ice cream donut sandwich. The ice cream is amazing. The glazed donut is soooooo good and they offer toppings that add even more sugar to the mix.
C Douche
Came here the other day and loved it. Donuts were fresh with lots of different types. The service was quick and the girls were lovely. Will come back next time we are in the city. So worth it!!!!
Sarah Scarbrough
This donut shop is so cute and has a variety of donut flavors. I split a huge chocolate glazed donut with my BF and it was the perfect dessert after Chicago style pizza! It was portable and quick, ideal for a stroll down the streets of Chicago with something sweet to eat!
Meredith Abrams
Delicious doughnuts! My boyfriend and I visited 3 times during our week stay. No other doughnuts in Chicago compare. We favored the peanut butter and old fashioned. Loved the kids working behind the counter, too!!
Maggie Rodriguez
So delicious! Chocolate with cookies and cream frosting 😋 …
T. T.
Great donuts!
Jose Guzman
The leader in donuts in the city. Open late ,always fresh donuts. The pistachio donut is spectacular full of flavor and not too heavy. The apple fritter is to die for. Many donuts on there special of the day. Enjoy a great donut ice cream sandwich at Firecakes.
Brad Joubert
Great effort for what was available and they were yummy. They open at 8 but on arrival they informed us that not all donuts are out until 10:00 am. Really, that does not make sense. Either open at 10:00 or be fully stocked at 8:00.
Doug Plagemann
As always their selection of donuts did not disappoint. This is a must stop for anyone who likes Donuts while you are in Chicago. As a suggestion keep an eye peeled behind the counter on the racks for things that might not be in the display for a little surprise.
Discover MyBusiness
Omg this place is amazing, our team all the time shopping with donuts and coffee. Guys you need open couple more locations...
Valerie Lambert Kroll
I'm not really a sweets person, but these donuts are amazing! I've tried the old fashioned buttermilk many times and recently tasted the bacon maple - also delicious! Their coffee beverages are also good, which makes this a one stop shop in the morning. Whenever anyone has a birthday or celebration at work, we always get Firecakes and they go fast!
Evan S
We actually used our good friends at Firecakes as part of our wedding as we thought having donuts instead of the traditional tiered cakes would be a good idea -- and boy were we right. The team at Firecakes gave us great sampling options, delivered to the venue smoothly, and our guests at them up at record pace (us grooms barely got to try 'em out they were gone so quickly!). Our experience with them was immensely positive and we'd recommend their services for a wedding or gathering of your own.
Sarah Frueh
Great donuts & coffee! Kind of a small space, but service moves pretty quickly.
Karen Baker
These are great donuts and ice cream. Didn't really appreciate the attitude of the person who served us especially the way he threw the ice cream on the counter. And when I asked him about a particular donut he said...our menu is on the wall even though he knew full well what I was asking for. Maybe he was having a bad night...I don't know but I could not get away with that at my job!
Taiji Suzuki
For real? Donut Ice Cream Sandwhiches?! We went here for the novelty of Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches. They were sweet and rich, very tasty! The inside of the store was tiny and very crowded. It felt "packed" with only three of us there ordering our food. So we ended up standing outside the place eating our sandwiches on the street. Though, I would go back for the novelty alone.
Shilpi Jain
Oh! Those dreamy donuts on a sunny afternoon made my day. Absolutely stunning taste and wide variety of coffee, cakes and donuts. There was a long line of visitors which means that it’s a loved place.
Kristine Ader
Quality services and excellent donuts! I got the old fashioned and was not disappointed. The level of glaze was perfect. My companion got the sprinkled donut. She was also very pleased. Thank you for the excellent treats!
Dannie Youker
By far the best donuts I have ever had in my life. Don’t miss out, this place is a must try. I go here every Sunday with my daughter on our “donut run” and it never disappoints.
Seth Pufahl
Great tasting donuts. All the options I enjoyed. I like the fact you can make a donut into a ice cream sandwich.
Melina Castillo
Cute shop. Donuts were on the pricier side. Very fond of their chocolate frosted donut. Their espresso donut was a miss for me, but my significant other enjoyed the peanut butter cup donut.
Gretchen Dust
More stars needed! This is beyond beyond! Birthday cake donut a must! Vanilla donut, I wish I could order extra balls! Yep, I said it! It's the fluffy melting donut with the bite and crunch of the balls that makes the texture POP!
I love all the donuts for different reasons, oh...how about that ice cream sandwich?!?! Only thing that steamed me once was not being able to order one before 11. Seriously, no time restrictions on amazingness!
Christian Linville
Great little donut shop. The employees were kind and helpful. Also, the coffee was good.
The only "negative" thing about Firecakes is its small size. During busy times the store becomes cramped. But heck, its small size is part of its character.
Swing by this place and grab a donut with a cup of coffee. It'll make your day a little better.
Ej Nappe
Stopped in Saturday morning at about 8:30, there was already a small gathering of customers inside and more coming down the street as i walked up. This told me that this place had to have something worth while to get this many people out that early, and in that weather, it was about 15° and a typical Chicago windy morning. We ordered the Red Velvet and a chocolate glazed donut which name started with a V. I also ordered a Mocha coffee and it was splended. The Employees behind the counter were professional and polite, dealing with several orders at once. I would recommend this little shop to anyone. Just be aware, indoor seating is not available and the inside of the shop is quite small. I highly suggest doing what we did, order your donuts and take a short stroll to the Bean and enjoy your coffee and pastries there!
Valerie Litwinko
Unfortunately, I found this place an hour before closing. I had a giant chocolate frosted donut that tasted fresh and was pillowy light, I also had a red velvet donut which was a more cake like donut but still had an a lighter texture that most cakey donuts with a milky frosting that was perfect. They offer a donut ice cream sandwich that was sold out but I will definitely return to try it.
Corby West
These dohnuts are mind blowing. Hands down some of the best I have ever had. The staff is extremely nice and helpful. The selection of dohnuts is very nice. They have fantastic coffee as well. Definitely worth the trip!
Brian Stevens
I consider myself a donut expert and Firecakes always ranks near the top. They've got a wide selection of donuts in many different styles. I've yet to have one that isn't great. They also serve coffee. In the summer there is a small outdoor seating area, but otherwise this is strictly a to go place as the inside is very small and there is no seating. Other bonus, unlike some other places they tend to stay open later and are less likely to run out and close.
Ryan Howard
Definitely above average, but below amazing. They have a lot of variety and also offer ice cream stuffed donuts. It's worth going and I love their options. The staff is nice to. It's just not as amazing as the pictures and hype makes it out to be.
Robby Abraham
Specialty donut place that is good. Small little shop so be prepared to wait a bit as the entry area is tight. Go back a few times and try until you like. Lots of options...
Gil Rutkowski
Some of the best donuts I've had in ages.
Amelia Wilson
I absolutely love the donuts. There the best I have ever had. The workers were also very sweet and helpful. Next time I'm in town, I will definitely stop in again.
Kelsey Leonard
Went every day of our trip! Such good donuts and nice people.
Tulin Mumcu
Definitely must go.
I love it
Gaylee
Huge donuts and fancy varieties. Don't expect to sit and enjoy the donuts with a warm drink this place is order only no seating and very small. If it's cold you may have a long wait outside.
Fahad Rind
Stuff was delicious. I ordered the churro donut but got something else (because stuff was labelled wrong) so I asked them to change it and the dude just smiled and handed me the one I wanted originally. No questions asked. Great service. No wonder they're world famous!
Elena Valdez
Pistachio, lemon blueberry, wildflower honey glazed, chocolate iced, and peanut butter cup are the flavors we got. Amazing and friendly service!
Kimberly Motycka
Quick, friendly service. Buttermilk Old Fashioned Donut and the Chocolate Hazelnut long john were delicious! Quite pricey given the size of the donuts though.
Isaac Jones
Donut crawl stop #3. These donuts are sooo sweet, maybe even a little too sweet. Favorite item was the much subtler apple fritter.
Andrea A
Came here for dessert forMy 30 bday 😌im into cinnamon rolls and theirs was fresh and dense. I was expecting more of a donut but it really is a mini cake lol. My husband chose a pecan pie and it was great the next day too. Opt to get the ice cream w the pastry! They only let a few people in the bakery at once so be patient. We went at night and everyone was following the rules 👌 Very refreshing and delicious
Branisha Hunter
This place has really big donuts. They're pretty good. They would've been better if they were warm, but the staff said they were not able to warm them. We expected fresh squeezed lemonade and it wasn't.
Wesley “djweso” Oman
The Latte I had was excellent. The cake donut was very good. The apple fritter was good.
Thomas Mahoney
Lived in the neighborhood for so long and finally tried this place and it’s delicious!
And Natalie was so sweet and kind 🙂 …
Isobel Ojalvo
I don’t understand the hype. Our donuts were stale and taste was OK. I appreciated that they were open late.
Julien REIS
I had the donut ice cream sandwich : it was so good ! Service is good too
S Stewart
Great yeast donuts, solid frostings and cake donuts that are the real old fashioned deal. It's pricey, so this is a treat rather than a regular thing for us. I'm not a huge fan of their more experimental offerings, but if you're into that, this is a good place for it.
It's small and walk in only. If there is a line its a problem when the weather isn't nice.
Jonathan Chestang
I asked for two of our favorites, the bacon maple and the old fashioned with poppy seeds. Have things changed? Since I've been out of Chicago? They told me that they did not have these popular donuts, especially the bacon maple, because those donuts are "seasonal". You can say that a fruit-based item could be seasonal, but bacon and maple icing are not seasonal items, neither are poppy seeds. This is why I'm wondering has this recent startup changed ownership or gotten too big.
Jessica Rasmussen
Icecream doughnuts is a cute idea, but not my favorite. Hard to eat and messy with napkins to clean up with, (but dry paper aren't the best for sticky hands). Tasty doughnuts, but the ice cream slab was not my favorite. Cute establishment, accommodating staff. A good one time adventure.
Nathan Jonaitis
Went here at like 9 at night with my son for a donut ice cream sandwich and they were all out of ice cream. Came back the next day after lunch and whoever was cleaning unplugged the freezer so the ice cream was really soft. We were going to leave and my son was really bummed out because we were leaving that day. I decided to go back in and try it anyway. They were really really good just a little soft. Also the lady insisted on just giving them to us for free. I told her she did not have to and then tried to at least get her to charge me for one and no deal. She said she didn't want anyone to be disappointed. So awesome!
Kendra Meadows
I really wanted to love this place, but it just didn't quite hit the spot. The donut presentation is great--they all look fantastic--but the flavors just weren't there. Too much cake/flour flavor and not enough of the said flavors.
Jacob Powell
Amazing donuts and friendly staff!
Important to note that this is counter-service. There is no place to hang out.
Definitely worth swinging through! You can try out some unique flavors and amazing takes on classics.
Areins Pelayo
Just finished eating the triple chocolate doughnut and the buttermilk OF. Having made doughnuts myself and having tried the other fairly renowned doughnut shops of Chicago, I think I can say that this place is above average. Their OF has a lot of vanilla in it, which made it too sweet for a breakfast pastry for me but my friend liked it. The ratio of wet ingredients and dry ingredients for their OF was good though, being neither too fluffy nor too moist (just too sweet in my opinion). The triple chocolate was not fresh and had a crunchy bottom. For a chocolate doughnut I recommend Stan’s Donut shop. I didn’t try any of their yeast-based selections, but by the looks of it, they seemed a bit chewy rather than fluffy. Doughnut Vault also has really chewy yeast doughnuts. As a matter of personal taste I like my yeast doughnuts fluffy and slightly chewy and go to panadería Nuevo León for my yeast doughnuts.
Joseph Shoemate
These guys known what’s up when it comes to donuts. They are always open it seems. Their selection of old fashioned donuts is great. Their location is cool. This is not a hangout spot though. Just a small retail space.
Samruddhi Kapileshwar
One of my favorite places in Chicago for donuts, really delicious and lots of variety to select from. Highly recommend.
Matt Borr
We had the ice cream donut sandwich which was excellent. The shop is just a small store but you can easily eat the donuts while walking
Aaron Michael Fink Composer
Delicious chamomile old fashioned donut and the BEST Chai Latte I have ever had.
Omolara Rants
Very delicious and unique donuts, love the vintage decor on the walls...
Nick Nichols
The space is small but the flavors are big! There's an amazing collection of flavored and traditional donuts, and the coffee is well made too. A great stop on the way to work!
Ryan Scheidemantle
Great donut place in chicago. Must try if you are visiting
Joel S
We asked the girl behind the counter what her favorite was and she pointed to the coconut. We went with the vanilla (decorated with little cookie beads), however, and were not disappointed. I would also recommend the buttermilk which is dense in the middle, but with a hard crisp outer crust. Flavor all over.
Sofy Nazar
Only really enjoyed one of the three doughnuts we got to try. The peanut butter filled with chocolate glaze on top stood out. The others weren't very bold in flavor. Not bad overall. Very cute little shop.
Matt Goldstein
This was an amazing donut experience. just went this morning with the family. got the vanilla bean and chocolate frosted for the kids and those were awesome. Meyers lemon donut was awesome. sweet on the top and sour in the center. A perfect combination!!!
David Wigfield
Joseph and Ozzy were out here making it a fantastic experience. Great donuts, don't miss out!
Peter Manderino
These donut are what I always want from other places that look similar. I got the simple glazed don't, as a benchmark and it was fantastic. I also got a latte, which was just ok. You go for the donuts though. As a side note, the store is really small so if it looks crowded the wait probably won't be long.
David Boran
It's a small place but they do good work here. Not every doughnut is a home run, but they're all solid. On this visit, was wowed by the Orange Poppyseed Old-Fashioned, as well as the fritter - which I believe was blueberry but not sure. While on the pricey side, so are the ones from all the other new, artisan places. You'll be happy with any of your picks from here!
Matthew R
I wish I had tried more donuts so I could give Firecakes a more fair review. With all the great reviews and recommendations from friends I wanted to love it. I tried the old fashioned and the coconut cream and had mixed feelings. The old fashioned was good, it was moist, fresh, and had a good flavor. As far as old fashioned donuts go it was as good as any but that's not saying a ton. I really had high hopes for the coconut cream, I absolutely love the coconut cream from Doughnut Plant and was hoping this would compare. I guess it's my fault for assuming the coconut cream would be filled with cream but the only cream on my doughnut was on the top. The doughnut wasn't bad but it wasn't great. It was a bit dry and didn't have any pizzazz. I wish I had gotten to try more but as it stands I really don't see a whole lot separating it from the 100 other doughnut places in Chicago.
Matthew Williams
I ordered these as a gift through grub hub and they came in a really cute box with string decoratively tied around it. Really great presentation! Plus, apparently they were delicious!
Chante Blackmon
Omg these donuts were soo good I was soo satisfied I will definitely be returning happy customer !!!!!!😊 …
Andrew Hua
Get the ice cream donut sandwich. Absolutely phenomenal.
Carlos J. Cruz
Open late and still incredibly fresh! I like the classic glazed donuts that are offered throughout the year, however the "gourmet" donuts are where it's at! I really enjoy the Meyer's lemon and chocolate espresso; so good with a cup of ☕. Orange poppy seed is a must have as well. This place makes Stan's look like a Krispy Kreme or a Dunkin'.
Neil K
Firecakes definitely has a much larger variety of doughnuts to pick from when compared to other places but not all of them were spectacular. The doughnuts were far from bad but felt a little underwhelming, especially for the much higher prices when compared to other doughnut stores. It is definitely worth a visit though.
Jonnathan J Rodriguez
This was definitely a Xpress visit, the place is tiny, no place to seat. Get your donuts and go. I had de Irish cream, really good!. By far the best donut I've had in Chicago.
Totally recommended! A must try place
