Reviews of J'aime French Bakery
The smell when you walk in will absolutely blow you away. Expectations will be high just based on how incredible the place just smells alone and their selection is sure to deliver on those expectations. Prices are very reasonable and customer service is very attentive and honest. Very cool place to just vibe either alone or with others, definitely recommend. 9.3/10
This place is so cute and delicious. The pastries are out of this world. The coffee is delicious. Get here early if you want a quiche or fresh bread! We did manage to snag a french baguette which we are excited to try. Such a convenient location. Highly recommend
Gorgeous bakery! Excellent customer service. They offered an array of pastries both savory and sweet. The croissants were the perfect balance of flakey crust and soft insides. Perfect for a quick coffee recharge.
The pastry I had and latte were good. Ambient was nice, especially in my opinion the outside of the building. But..attention to detail is what I always look for that could be fixed. I suggest daily wiping of walls next to customer tables, regular cleaning of air vents, and baseboards. I don’t like eating in a place when these things are right next to me or in my face. Not sure I can eat here again if it’s not taken care of.
UPDATE..I message the shop at a later date, and they said they took care of those issues, I have faith they did, they get a 4 start now.
Fresh pastries and great coffee. It was a delicious start to our day as we visit Philadelphia. Food is fresh and tasty. Came out quickly with really friendly service. Apple turnover was great as were the mini quiches. Star of the show was the Chocolate Croissant Pretzel. So many great flavors. Loved it. Felt very warm and inviting.
I ordered the "Chocolate pretzel" and this blow my mind! It is the most delicious pretzel (croissant) I've ever had! I also loved how they added chocolate and nuts in-between the pretzel layers to make it a copious and bountiful pastry!! I also ordered the cappuccino to enjoy with my pastry but it was okay, but I give 5 starts because of their pastries! Overall first impression on this place was bright and clean; the seating area could be limited if you visit during the busy afternoon tea time or weekend, but it could be a good alternative WFH place other than your home! They recently opened another store near Rittenhouse Square, so I will definitely check that place soon!
An incredible French bakery! We love the Napoleon tart, the Paris-Philadelphia eclair variation, and many others. The coffee is also good, and the place is nice, modern and welcoming.
This is one of coziest, cutest little corner bakeries. Fresh croissants all day, quiches, tarts, olive cake, and coffees/macchiatos/lattes - all made authentic way - so if you need caramel drizzle go to the chain coffee shops. Indoor and outdoor seating. Accepts cash, Apple Pay, CCs and Cash App. Very clean and neat. Owner appears to be baking all day but as it gets closer to the end of the late afternoon, selection gets smaller, so come early for the most choices. Croissants are amazing- warm, flaky and buttery goodness.
This place is the real deal. When I need a croissant fix, which, sadly, is becoming more and more often these days, this is my go-to. It is the closest thing to a French pastry shop, short of getting on a plane to Paris. I mean, you can't really go wrong with any of the baked goods here...chocolate croissants, that twisted pretzel thing they have, anything with apple in it...give me them all!
The pastries look so yummm.. We just had our lunch so I grabbed some for later.... Had to try this since I was here.. 🥰.... We had the tarts they were sooooo worth the long walk we did.. Must try 🥰 …
Wonderful shop with friendly staff led by a French baker. I go here almost every morning for breakfast.
They do offer a discount if you write a review, but I'm writing this review only after my 6th visit so...
Just left Paris, France a week ago and I thought I would die without a croissant. Came here the staff is very friendly and sweet, cafe is very bright and sparkling clean. The pastries are out of this world just like in Paris! If you did not enjoy this place go again! The best croissant in the city! I mean the owners are French.
I was only in Philadelphia for 5 days, but stopped here on the first day. Everything, from the crepes to the pastry to the coffee was awesome. I went back every day (except Monday, when the are closed) and tried something different and was never disappointed. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for great pastry and coffee in a relaxed and friendly setting (with helpful and friendly staff)
Went for the first time today. Very clean aesthetic. Great little treats and foods to choose from along with a thick and yummy hot chocolate. I also had the gateaux de Manon (lemon pound cake) which was perfect for starting the day. I'd definitely be back to try the crepes.
I requested a flourless chocolate cake for my wedding, it was absolutely stunning! Best ending to a wonderful day:) We can't thank Chef Bastien enough for making the most perfect chocolate cake! We can't wait to come back for our 1st year wedding anniversary to order one again ❤️
Great croissants and coffees. They use La Colombe coffee, which we have loved for many years. The ambiance is very pleasant and the staff friendly. This true french bakery is a winner.
I never write reviews but I had to write one for J’aime Bakery! I came into the city from Jersey for the day and stopped in for a quick bite around lunch time. The bakery is very nice looking, I love the interior design of it. The girl working the counter was very nice and quick! The croissant was heavenly. The bakery is right next to the PATCO station- so it’s very convenient for anyone from Jersey and PATCO riders. I will definitely be back just for another croissant😍🥐
J'aime is the best there is. Hands down. And I don't mean just in all of Philly. Without exaggeration, it is one of the best bakeries in the US.
You've heard this before: "flaky on the outside but chewy on the inside". Now ask yourself, when was the last time that you've actually had a croissant that tasted like this?
After you've done your soul searching, you will have arrived at the same conclusion that I did: nowhere else in this city, except at J'aime.
I wish I had the patience to take a photo and put it up with my review, but I usually eat the croissants as soon as I get into the car. After about 30 seconds it'd be gone. Same for the other pastries.
So instead, I'll put up a picture of this beautiful Charlotte cake that I ordered from the chef. Just look at that.
Do yourself a favor and get two croissants the first time you come here.
Crepe with raspberry hit the spot ❤️ add a peppermint mocha and you have a cozy breakfast. The inside is not the most spacious but if you're lucky enough to get a table it's worth hanging for a bit. The vibes are right.
me and my partner stopped by and had such a wonderful experience!! the nutella banana crepe was made to perfection, the ice lattes were perfect and we even had to take home a berry tart too! such a wonderful spot with even more wonderful employees! highly recommend a leisurely trip to jaime french bakery!
Beautiful place, Amazing pastry, good coffee and friendly service.
The pastry is professionally done and is just perfect, not too sweet as often happens in US places that try to make French pastry.
A time travel to Paris. The pastry chef baking in the back while the smell of fresh baked croissants fills the room. The pain au chocolat was flaky, buttery and airy. I shared the lemon tart and it was light, not overly sweet with a nice set meringue. I wish i would’ve tried the quiche. Can’t wait to come back.
First off, the actual bakery shop is great for a casual meet-up, a study session, or just a delicious break in your day. The desserts are light and moderately sweet, so you'll be sure not get a sugar high. When I visited, the place wasn't busy, so it was nice and quiet; however, I imagine this place will soon get a lot of attention and possibly lose that serenity it now enjoys. From the pastries, I really enjoyed the Napoleon cake: I'm a bit used to the creamy taste of the Russian version of this pastry, but the one I tasted here was crispier and much lighter.
Second, I ordered my wedding cakes here, and they were superb. We wanted something tasteful and unique—the French cakes that Sebastian suggested definitely were all that and more. The cakes were made of the choux pastries you can also get separately at the shop. So overall, this place is great for both a casual drop-in and a more high-end order.
Great job and keep it up!
I was in town, and I wanted to have a little bit of sweet and warm coffee. And this French bakery was closed by.. Loved it
I loved this small, bright French cafe. I had a Nutella and banana crepe that was delicate and had just the right amount of filling to crepe ratio. I will definitely return. The wait for food and drink was very short, but I went on a Saturday afternoon. I appreciate that their to go cups are recycled and biodegradable.
We went to this cute little bakery & cafe serving French pastries, sandwiches, crepes & coffee for breakfast. We got there quite early in the morning, there were few people who were getting things to go, instead of dining in, which gave us all the seating options. They had some tables right at the entrance, and then more seating in the back.
The cafe is located on the corner lot, so it had lots of windows on the front and the side, bringing in bright natural light.
Right at the entrance, they had some bread and baked goods, such as croissant, apple turnover, and raisin roll. On the side, they had lots of sweets such as macarons, tartlet, and éclairs. They also had some quiche as well. Since we were there super early, the pasty chef was still working on some items.
We started off with a couple of pastries and cups of coffee. I got a small Latte, and it was really small... They ground coffee beans at the time of order, which is great. The coffee was quite good, I wish if the mug was a bit bigger, even though I did order small. My hubby ordered a Cappuccino, they didn't have any choice of size, it came in a mug that is similar to the latte mug, but a bit shorter and wider. They were tasty coffees, again, just really small...
We had Sugared Chouquette, Napoleon, French Jam Crêpe and Paris Philadelphia. They were all very tasty, high quality and oh-so-satisfying. It was a fun and tasty visit. The service was ok, not overly friendly but efficient. Their sweets were elegant and sophisticated, we enjoyed them all.
After living in France for some time, then returning to Philly, there wasn’t anything in the city at the time that truly filled that void. Then, J’aime French Bakery opened and the void was filled 😌😌 Fabulous, authentic pastries and a galette des rois to die for honestly. It’s where I go to escape being a mom for an hour to grab a croissant and a tea.
6/18/2022 ETA: Thank you very much for serving my cappuccino in a ceramic mug today. I LOVE J'aime!
Good coffee, tasty pastries and friendly service. Only complaint is that they refused to serve our cappucinos in mugs. Apparently, it's considered safe to serve cake and croissant on actual plates with real silverware. So, there's no legitimate reason to refuse to serve coffees in actual mugs, as well. The mugs are sitting right there on the shelf. We're burying our planet in garbage for no good reason. Serving coffee in paper cups with plastic lids does NOT keep anyone safe from covid. We'll be back when you resume serving coffee in mugs and/or start charging extra for take out.
So good! I brought these desserts to my cousin’s place for dinner and she also loved them! Definitely will be back.
The highlight of our trip, I thought would be the Philly Cheese Steak. Was I greatly mistaken? YES!! The pastry's were exquisite. The presentation and texture of the pastry crust, and overall flavor was so worth it.
This little bakery should be on everyone’s must go list. The friendly atmosphere, and overall cleanliness has “come back” written all over this experience. We are from NC. If I hear that any one I know is going to Philadelphia I will lead them to you. Thanks for the experience.

The Vegan chocolate croissant is an extraordinary experience you can have, just Perfect!
I'm updating my rating because I've been going here for occasional croissants and they are consistently delicious, some days better than others, but still fantastic. The service varies depending on who I'd behind the counter. The chef is so sweet, he occasionally pops out and is charming. But the croissants and coffee, which is what I come for, never disappoint.
The crepe was delicious. Was ready pretty fast. Location is nice, bright and clean. Seating can get a little limited but no complaints. Staff was also very nice.
We had the Olive - Orange Cake this past Saturday and it was simply amazing. Highly Recommend this Patisserie-Bakery! Felicitations Bastien !
Something about this bakery leaves a little too be desired. I enjoyed the chocolate tarte. I have been to a lot of French bakeries and I tried quite a few things here and this one is just so so
Nice trendy cafe to grab a coffee and a croissant or crepe. I liked their crepes as they had the perfect consistency, i.e they weren't overly crispy as some places tend to be.
This is a nice, brightly decorated place for various coffees and luscious baked items like crepes, quiches, tarts, breads, cookies and more. After 2 visits (Sep 24 & 25, 2018) while on a short trip to Philly, I can fully recommend. My jam-filled crepe was light, tasty and big ($5). The day before we shared a lemon tart which had intense flavor. There are several tables if you care to linger. While only open for a year, I think J'aime is already a fine addition to the neighborhood. Bonne chance!
J’aime is easily my favorite cafe in the city. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is welcoming and clean, and the service is wonderful. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend trying the quiche Lorraine and truly any of the sweets. I can’t pick a favorite!
I thoroughly enjoyed their pain au Chocolat. And the tea can serve two people.
Lovely sitting options and friendly staff. I liked my americano. The almond croissant was interesting, less sweet and buttery than usual, on the dry side, not bad at all, but I’ve tried others I liked more. Next time I’ll order something else.
Came across the Bakery yesterday and oh boy, this could be trouble! I went in for a pastry or two...instead sat down and had a fantastic crepe and left with about 5 things to go! Super nice staff and the Chocolate Hazelnut Croissant is seriously ridiculous.
Love this bakery.
They always have fresh crossaints in the morning, but be quick... they sell out early!
I highly recommend the chocolate pretzel crossaint twist.
Bought 3 croissants, 1 eclair, and a chocolate croissant. I am not a croissant person but my wife loves them. She said that they were better than most she had. But the were a little well done for her taste. I thought the eclair was amazing and would definitely get it again. My daughter had the chocolate croissant and she thought it was good but a bit well done also.
Absolutely amazing bakery! One of the best French ones I’ve been to. Almond croissant and quiches excellent. When they brought me the wrong quiche, which was still exceptional, they brought me a whole new correct one and some mini pastries. Exceptional customer service that I didn’t except or ask for. Would recommend this place to anyone craving a good pastry and experience!!
Very cute vibe, with a soft Parisian vibe - I took my SF foodie friends here on the 4th & we got the almond croissant (3.25-warm soft flaky fresh) & croquette with chocolate creme (5-cool & airy-"doesn't make you feel guilty")
Tried this place again today to give them a second chance.
This time I tried their butter croissant, chocolate croissant and their French baguette (mainly back for the French baguette since there is some good reviews here). However I am totally disappointed. The croissant has good flavor. It is buttery and rich, but is is kinda made sloppily. The texture is kinda too squishy.
The big disappointment is the baguette. The texture is off. It is too fluffy. It does not have enough texture. Maybe they mix strong flour with something else, or it is not strong enough??? Maybe good for some, but this is not the baguette I am familiar with.
Very pleasant staff and a delightful atmosphere. Top notch pastries. A great place I told all my friends about!
Love this place! Super cute and the staff is great; amazing croissants.
Great place and friendly staff. I have tried many of their products and all of them are VERY good. Their hot chocolate is actual real hot chocolate too. That’s so hard to find in quality. Could drink it all day 😝! …
We called to order a King Cake. Truly wonderful experience. The hot chocolate is beyond special.
I love this place !!! I came with my daughter and her friend on Saturday and the girls loved the chocolate croissant and the Nutella crape.
I had both the chouquette and the olive oil cake . What can I tell you … the chouquette with hazelnut fluffy cream was absolutely amazing.
The olive oil cake was light and delicious.
I highly recommend this place.
This place has only caught my eye when driving by and I finally had the chance to try it out and was I blown away! Big round of applause for service macchiato the right way, short espresso cup with some milk and froth. I believe it was the Napoleone pastry I tried, and wow! The chocolate cream was out of this world, pastry dough was perfectly crisp. I can’t wait to come back and tell everyone. Bravo!! 👏🏻
Exceptional True French baking and the pastries preparation.
The atmosphere is calm and very Relaxing. Love the Decor
Delicious, fresh, flaky pastries. The actual cafe is stunning - great for studying, spending a lazy afternoon reading, or meeting friends. Docking a star solely because I believe it is overpriced. Each pastry runs about 5 dollars.
Came here with my sister and her husband, it was a little pricey, but the food was very good! We all got one of their bakery items and the service was great as well
Saw this bakery from my bus window before we got off the next stop. We decided to stop in and ordered some chocolate and almond croissants and flan. Prices were reasonable. The girl behind the counter was friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere. Tables were in front and in the back. They also have lunch items. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. I will be back.
Croissant chocolate is awesome!
Great selection of baked goods, decent prices and adorable aesthetic. I had the Napoleon, it was delicious. Can't wait to come again!
Reviews don’t lie , amazing pastries will leave you feeling like you are in France. Staff is also super friendly, I recommend visiting this cozy fun bakery
This has been my favorite place to get coffee and pastry's in Philly since it opened 4 years ago. The staff is kind and welcoming (They go above and beyond). The owner is a brilliant pastry chief. The shop is beautiful, clean, and has wifi!
The pastry's are always fresh and the coffee is always hot. I cannot recommend J'aime enough!
It was a real pleasure to find French pastries in Philadelphia. The olive oil cake was delicious.
I love this place. Today I tried the Nutella chouquette with a hot chocolate. Best combo! Great place!
I had a really fresh and flaky croissant today and enjoyed it thoroughly.
I love this place coffee super high quality and taste. The best of all, their bakery. Their pastries are amazingly good, I love the merveilleux, so delicious! Also the croissants, tarts, brownies, and cobblers. Everything there it's worth trying, I love to there to treat myself!
Incredible coffee and gorgeous modern setting. Staff is very friendly. A great place to work for a bit or meet friends for a quick bite.
the olive cake is my absolute favorite. Very cute cafe, an instgrammable place, and the almond croissant was mind-blowing.
I am absolutely in LOVE with that barista Ashley. She is a very cute and friendly girl. She is always moving and working hard to make sure you get what you need. The ham and brie sandwich was very simple and tasty. I could tell they used high quality ingredients.
Great place! The croissants 🥐 are light fluffy and so fresh! They make very nice almond croissant and great drinks. Those working here are so friendly! Pleasant experience… merci! …
Cute bakery cafe with a whimsical touch. Their options are varied, with the draft latte as a particularly strong selection. Also in good showing are the number of tasty pastries. My favorites so far have been the chocolate almond pretzel and the Paris Philadelphia. Couple this with expert service and you have yourself one of the finest cafes in Center City.
Excellent pastry and tea! Can't wait to come back to try quiches and sandwiches. The atmosphere is very relaxing and cozy.
I went here the other day to sit down quickly in between appointments, what a cute little cafe! I had a cappuccino and a chocolate croissant (my favorite pastry) and it was just delightful. I'll have to go back to try their other pastries. Nice staff, clean space with wifi, and tables to sit at.
By far the worst mocha we've ever had. Mochas are usually somewhat chocolatey since that's what they're made with. I would think this one made with chocolate milk powder would be. But it was like drinking straight espresso and milk with no chocolate/mocha/sweet flavor at all. It was so bitter we added 3 packs of sugar to no avail. I didn't want to waste $5 so I forced myself to drink 1/2 of it before tossing the rest. Avoid their coffee drinks...unless you're also one of those who likes Starbucks burnt coffee. We're coffee snobs, but are fair and give local shops a chance, so it pains me to write that it was just THAT bad. The Napoleon was unique though. It had a creme brulee type coating and the custard was tasty. By far the highlight of this purchase. The staff was friendly, so I have no complaints about them. We got an awesome mocha at another local shop later in the day :-)
I buy their napoleons, fruit tartlet and lemon tartlet everyday(except Monday when they closed) so so delicious
Wonderful experience and breakfast of succulent quiche and croissant as delicious as they are beautiful.
I was told about J'aime about a month ago and since then I have gone at least twice a week. I told many of my classmates about this and after labs we walk here to get some much needed (and extremely delicious) coffee and treats. I'm now making it my mission while I live in Philly to try every pastry item they have since every one I have tasted has been more delicious than the last!
I recently purchased an assortment of French bakery items from croissants to lemon tarts, pretzels and apple turnovers and chocolate croissants. They were all delicious. The croissants were so good that we didn’t need anything on them they are flaky and airy. This small bakery turns out great pastries. When I return I’ll try the other offerings. I have been told that the hot chocolate is off the charts. I would have purchased some but it was 90 degrees in the shade.
Love the service and pastries there. I wish they will have more coffee selection soon.
This place is so cute AND delicious. They are also incredibly accommodating for our toddler and made her a special fruit cup. Would absolutely recommend when in Philly!
Excellent patisserie.
Have had everything they offer and all are excellent. A true French patisserie in CC.
New to Philly and found J'aime while exploring Philly's food offerings. Two visits and will definitely return. So far, had the spinach and mushroom quiche and the quiche lorraine. Crust was flakey and fit perfectly with the creamy fillings. Perfect size for one, to go with the mocha coffee. Can't wait to try the pastries, including the eclairs and the apple tartlets; both looked great.
Pastry is cheaper than most cafes and bakeries, but it isn't very French.
Went here today and ordered a chocolate croissant and small drip coffee. Croissant was buttery, flakey and soft (just how I like it). Drip coffee was good, but hard to mess up a drip coffee. Facilities were clean and service was friendly.
This place is ah-dorable! Incredibly clean, a surprisingly robust selection of authentic french pastries, and all of the usual coffee selections one would expect out of a cafe. Oil certainly be back to try more of their delicious patisserie!
This place is cute as heck. The owners (who were working the counter this morning) are friendly and have wonderful accents. I had the spinach and salmon quiche and it was superb. The selection of other pastries were equally fantastic. I am not a coffee drinker, so I can't comment on that, but they have a nice selection of bagged teas. The teas aren't anything special, but good. The seating is lovely with a big, 3-sided window area and large french doors (obviously) for when it's nice out (it wasn't today). The overall experience was wonderful.
Very bright and friendly environment.
Kind staffs and real French style desserts!
Great little find which now seems to have a strong following offering up French and European pastries and breakfast options in a bright open space. Plenty of coffee, tea, and juice options as well.
got the bacon and cheese quiche, banana nutella crepes and chia latte and they were AMAZING! grabbed some of the tarts to-go and they were equally delicious. cute spot with great staff, will definitely be back!
Coffee is excellent and they have socially dispensed indoor seating. (Little pricey.)
The irresistible smell of freshly baked croissant, warmth of its staff and a pocket friendly menu at this quaint café promises a beautiful afternoon if you choose to step out and work/study from a café in the city! Would 200% recommend a visit!
Great pastries and coffe. Loved it!
Jaime is magical!!! It’s like being transported to Paris from Philadelphia in the wonderful eating experience. The staff is pleasant, kind and so knowledgeable on the pastry. The owner Bastien took my order and since it was busy said “ normally we don’t take phone orders bc you can come in but I’ll hold it for you! Heart, heart!!! Please make it your first stop when visiting Philadelphia. My wife and I are regularly here.
Friendly staff and atmosphere. The baguettes and pastries are always fresh and delicious and go well with their great espresso and coffee. I highly recommend.
Excellent pastries! The Marvieulleux was yummy as was the fruit tarte, topped off by great coffee and a cappuccino. Friendly help added the finishing touch to an afternoon visit. We will be back!
Excellent authentic French bakery. Everything looked and tasted hand made. The texture of croissants was great, good layering, flaky outside and slightly chewy inside. The almond croissant had a wonderful frangipane filling. The éclair had the proper crème pâtissière filling (unlike many places that do it the Italian whipped cream way). The flan was excellent, smooth, with great vanilla flavor. I had wanted to try the quiches but they were pricey and small, so we didn’t get any. The flourless chocolate cake was wonderfully dense and moist. I would totally go back in a heartbeat. Sorry photos aren’t that great.
I love this place. Amazing espresso that is so smooth and sweet. Their drinks are perfectly made, pastries are out of this world and their crepes are to die for. Definitely have to come here whenever you’re in Philly. I always make sure to stop in this establishment for my coffee regardless of how busy I am.
Crisp clean atmosphere with a delicious selection of pastries. Tea/coffee was equal to Starbucks in quality (though different in flavor). Plenty of seating to carve out a niche to get your snack on. I only wish there was more selection. However, the selection they have is fantastic.
An adorable and friendly spot. Good bites and great vibes. Definitely worth the visit!
In addition to the amazing pastry and coffee, a lovely quiche or sandwich is perfect for lunchtime.
Very authentic French patisserie! All of their baked goods are delicious and lovely staff. Always get their flans which reminds me of the ones in France. Must go to spot in Philadelphia.
I have never — never — had a better croissant. Anywhere. If you try one, you will never settle for another. The impossibly thin, crisp outer layers with their gentle crunch are what is missing from every other croissant here in Philadelphia.
This place is absolutely lovely. It's cute, not too expensive, the service is great and the pastries / coffee are super yummy. Try their croissants and capuccino! In fact, try any of their baked goods. I saw some people working here, but the place is so small, if I was working here I'd feel like I'm taking away seats from customers who want to have a quick bite and a coffee.
Pastries are good, as good as Paris Baguette with better croissant which are flaky on the outside but chewy on the inside. Not a lot of seatings (max 7 people indoors per COVID restrictions) but 2 tables outside for outdoor seating. As of April 2021, there is a construction site nearby which is not too loud, but not too comfortable for sitting outside also. Ok for place for working there as there are large bright windows, beautiful smell but not a lot of outlets. Coffees are meh, not the best Ive seen.
Most authentic French bakery for miles around. Staff is very intuitive. If you don't know what you'll like they surely will.
Really great pastries and prices are reasonable. The chocolate croissant pretzel is amazing. Their hot chocolate alone is worth a visit but be warned- it is EXTREMELY rich chocolate.
yea this place is legit. would have to agree this is one of the best if not the best french bakery in the philly area. would venture to say quality-wise, on same level, probably better, than nyc commercialized french bakeries such as maison kayser. this is just a smaller operation with a personalized touch that you can taste and feel as soon as you step into this quaint bakery to the moment you devour all of the pastries they have to offer. you can even see the baker (himself?) in the back kitchen working diligently. just a glance at each of the individual pastries you can tell was conscientiously made and put together. it's the attention to detail on each piece, you can tell there is pride in the work, brings some nostalgia to how small patisseries used to operate.
a true gem, hidden to me until now.
things you have to try at least once- the apple croissant (best i've had) and the meringue fluffy dome thing (best i've had yet again, actually have never had anything like it but it is the perfect balance of fluff and crisp and chewy, you'll know what i mean on the first bite. my wife who doesn't really like meringue even was amazed. i guess it goes to show that sometimes you dont like a particular food until it's prepared the right way).
oh and the lemon meringue tart is delectable. of course the croissants are great. the fruit tart is perfectly balanced. all of their creams/fillings are perfectly on point.
my deepest compliments to the baker, and all the staff there including the authentic french servers (always a good sign).
per usual, i'm hesitant to post such reviews for fear that it will be discovered by the masses, but seems like they are already well on their way, and much deserved at that.
Delicious, perfect, authentic pastries and fantastic latte! Merci beaucoup! Also happy to speak French with my son and me. It was a true 5 star experience.
Everything is always great. Love the quiches, croissants, galettes. Good drip coffee too. Nice interior and workers are always friendly.
Love this place! Friendly service and a great atmosphere. Pastries are amazing and they have a nice tea collection to choose from.
Very cute place with very delicious espresso drinks. The staff was nice and their was an adorable little girl seemingly working in the kitchen. (It seemed more of an honorary position than one with any true responsibility.) The prices were fine and unremarkable and I will return. I don however miss the coziness that the old 12th Street Cafe that was there previously had to it. With its bookshelves and more comfortable seating towards the back. It was a great meeting place for the gay community. The front was always more business meetings and laptops but the back was casual and quaint. I did notice that the biggest reason for said change was to close of half of back space and make it in to a kitchen when before they only had simple pastries and such. I have yet to try any food they serve and wasn't looking for that at the time. But I hope to return soon and see what else they have to offer.
Great coffee, love the bright ambience!
It’s hard to write a review based on my one experience with a bakery. Ordered Buche de Noel desert for Christmas as Metropolitan bakery was sold out. Was really excited to order it and the owner was really nice. Cake was creamy and tasty but I was so underwhelmed with how unimpressively decorated the cake was ( my family was too). 6 measly cranberries which didn’t even look like real sugared cranberries, no greenery etc. I’ve seen unprofessional cakes decorated better. When it’s ordered for a holiday table it’s especially disappointing. We got some croissants as well. They were pretty good but not as good as in the French bakery near me ( La Baguette Magique). I would be hesitant to order the cake for occasion again .
Delicious chocolate cake and flan! Very good espresso! Will definitely come again!
Best French pastries in Philly! My personal favorite is the merveilleux, which is even better than those made by the well-known luxury pastry chain Aux Merveilleux de Fred. Also, it has a great ambiance and service.
Great chocolate croissant, perfect texture. Coffee from colombe
Extremely authentic and delicious French pastries. The owner is very friendly and classically trained. It's refreshing to find a French bakery owner in Philadelphia who is actually French! The decor is clean and bright, with elegant details to give it that modern European touch. The pastries took me to the steps of the Louvre and back. So delicious and authentic.
The baked goods here are outstanding. That's a given. My wife went back for a 2nd one. and she's not the kind of person that usually has two sweets. I had the apple tart. Different than anything I've had, but so so good.
But that's not what this review is about. I wanted to recognize the service by the younger guy with the shaggy hair who works here. I don't know him, never interacted with him as more than a customer, didn't even catch his name. But he's a gem.
Saw him go above and beyond to help a blind customer, including describing a number of baked goods to him to help him choose, walking him to his chair, and checking in to see if he needed anything else.
Saw him interact with a few more customers in a little more traditional sense. One family asked for a recommendation on a crepe. He told them what was popular, and then pitched them something else that was really good.
I dunno, just stood out to me. Service in Center City Philly isn't always great (though there are plenty of exceptions), and this guy is really just on his game. So, appreciation for a man who's good at his job.
Visiting Philly. J'aime recommended by a friend. Yesterday, I enjoyed the mushroom spinach quiche, a slice of lemon pound cake and a cafe latte.
I'm back this morning for an almond croissant and cafe latte. Delicious!
Love it here! The food and coffee are great, plus the staff is always nice. There’s plenty of seating and it’s not too loud
We just had the most wonderful brie on a fresh baguette. It reminded us so much of our trips to Paris. The tea was equally as amazing. The decor is simple, clean and fresh.
If you are on 12th street near Locust. Stop in, you won't be disappointed. J'aime, J'aime!
Went there on a scorching day for lunch. Sandwich was delicious and freshly made with a very French baguette. I’ve come here to hang out and read or work because I like the ambience, the excellent service and the coffee.
I live in France. These croissants are better than most you find in a French bakery.
Simply amazing coffee and patisserie. A joy.
This place is so cute! The crepes, tea, and lemonade were really good and the apricot jam is fantastic. Prices are decent for a place like this and its a good place to sit and be with a friend. It also has free wifi inside w/ password. Overall, good food and adorable space.
Came here for some crepes with friends for breakfast! Great clean spot!
Authentic French Bakery. The staff is super friendly greeting as you enter and also knowledgeable about the pastries. I went with a classic chocolate croissant and it was just like the ones found in France! The espresso was great too!
Best croissants in Philadelphia, without a doubt. You also need to try their chocolate and peanut pretzel! Welcoming atmosphere with a lot of light. Very clean and their lattes are tasty.
The only thing I stay away from are the draft lattes, they don't come across as good as the ones you get at the la colombe locations. I didn't take off a star for this because their hot lattes are good and my purpose of going to J'aime is never for a draft latte. My purpose is to tasty the best French Pastries in Philly.
I’ve been there in July with my best friend, and we were “wowed”! We tried the almond croissant, the chouquette with Nutella whipped cream and a raspberry crepe. It was absolutely delicious!! They are working with La Colombe coffee. The atmosphere was lovely, it felt like we were in Paris. We will definitely be back.
Must have been an off day, based on the rest of these reviews, but both the almond and chocolate croissants were underbaked and the chocolate croissant was clearly under-proofed (there were no layers whatsoever. It was entirely hollow). It didn't taste very good as a result; very doughy and sour yeast-y. Service was good, though.
This is one of the best bakeries that I've ever encountered. Very professional staff, owner is a very open minded person as well as being a very hard worker. The food is exquisite and the atmosphere is delightful.
My coworker went and picked up a variety of treats for us to sample. They were spectacular! The chocolate croissants were amazing. We will definitely be going back.
Amazing pastry selection! I had a wonderful whipped chocolate pastry, and my girlfriend really enjoyed her almond croissant. Certainly a new go to place for us in the neighborhood.
The best bakery I have found in Philadelphia. When you walk in you are greeted by a friendly employee. My eyes instantly went to the wide spread of pastries and croissants. They even have crepes! I endes up getting a cappucino and a quiche which was a perfect filling breakfast. I will definitely be coming back soon!
The space is lovely, bright, and nice for doing work. I tried the pan au chocolat, which was more bready than a nice, flaky, laminated dough. This was rather disappointing, as I was excited to try some high quality French pastries. It makes me hesitant to try other treats, but service and ambiance are so nice I'm definitely going to give it another shot!
If you need an authentic French patisserie, look no further than J'aime. This bakery specializes in small tartlets and galettes, but can also support your more savory lunchtime cravings with baguette sandwiches and soups. Absolutely delicious food, crafted with a skilled hand, and served by genuinely enthusiastic staff.
100% recommend this bakery to anyone who asks (and even to people who don't).
I give this establishment five stars because it is extremely clean, the baked goods are delicious, the menu has a large variety, as well as the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend coming here for a cappuccino or a sweet treat!
Delicious pastries, nice employees, nice interior.
best croissants in philly! order one with a side of butter and fig jam. felt like i transported back to paris.
Authentic French -style patisserie. Good coffee, too. Friendly, helpful staff. Super clean and neat shop. They also make a good baguette.
Their Quiche Lorraine is the best I've ever had, and the sweet pastries were also delicious. Great location and decor, would definitely recommend for the French-bakery ambiance alone.
Wonderful atmosphere and totally into making my experience great. Special ordering lemon poppy seed olive oil cake and said will be ready when I need it. Very chill atmosphere.
J'aime bakery was a good experience, from walking in and smelling the various pastries to having that first sip of coffee. The barista, Sara, was also very helpful in helping us decide and gave us our order very quickly. Highly recommneded!
9am on a Saturday and there were like 6 people in the store so I thought maybe it wouldn’t be that great. I was terribly mistaken. The blueberry galette and apple danish were amazing. Service was fast and pleasant. Great bakery, if I lived in Philly this would be a regular spot for me.
Awesome little cafe in center city, wonderful especially in the summer with the open door concept
I heard about the lovely J'aime bakery and decided to stop by for a visit. The unique atmospher provided such a homey french lux experience. Their staff were so friendly and warm. It was really touching when I noticed how one of them even helped an old man to his seat.
When I tried the apple pastery I ordered, it tasted just right. It was freshly baked and the perfect compliment to some almond milk. i think this is now my favourite Bakery in Philadelphia, and I can't wait to try some more pasteries. I highly recommend a visit.
Très bon! This visit I had a delicious crepe with apricot jam that had the perfect consistency and texture. I would give it a fifth star of the menu was a little more expanded for lunch items but overall I can't complain about anything I've hard there.
This is a very cute bakery with legit French pastries. Perfect place for a meet up with a friend!
Best french Bakery in Philly. The owner is a very nice french guy who just moved here and his pastries are AMAZING. I ordered from here for my birthday and everyone loved it. Definitely a hidden gem!
Best bakery ever with a great backstory. I have frequented Paris often, and this is a true French patisserie! Try their chocolate crossiant, best I’ve ever eaten, truly. Pairs perfect with their cafe au Lait. Great ambiance to get work done too.
Cute little bakery. They have coffee, crepes, pastries, etc. we tried honey crepe, chocolate croissant and mocha... it was all delicious. Extra points for the amazing barista. Would definitely recommend this place.
Super cute coffee and tea spot. The pastries so cute n tastey!
J'aime is a great little gem of a cafe that serves delicious pastries and coffee. It might be a bit higher on the price point than other places, but you pay for what you get and that is high quality items in a lovely setting. When the front doors are wide open and sun shining into the cafe, it is a vibrant stop along South 12th unique for Philly.
If you like Lemon Tart’s, J’aime has the best (get here early though as they sell out fast)!
The impressive French Chef, Bastien, combines a powerful fresh citrus with a silky sweetness for a unique... je ne sais quoi taste that will make you fall in love:)
Cute place for lunch or breakfast, truly French. Yummy pastries and quality made-to-order items. Slightly on the pricier side per item. Good, friendly service. Can dine in or pick up something fast to go. Have returned here many times and will keep coming back.
This cute little french bakery was amazing. I hate I didn't try their crepes. I'll have to come back next time I'm in the city.
My girlfriend said she didn’t like croissants. She then she tried a bite of mine from J’aime and said “I guess I don’t like bad croissants.” Delicious food good coffee.
Fabulous. I got the marvelleau as take out, and it was so good we turned the car around and went back for another (but they were closed! We shouldn't have waited to eat our treat). Lesson learned: at J'aime, buy extra, don't wait :)
Received fabulous customer service from Bastien when I asked to purchase a gift certificate and have it sent to my house in Seattle. He returned my e-mail quickly, processed the transaction and the card is in the mail. I found the bakery while searching online for a fun Christmas gift for my relatives in Philadelphia, and I'm sure they will enjoy what is (hopefully) a new adventure for them.
I enjoyed their small dark coffee plus a pastry that has very nice tasting whipped cream inside. Of course, I don't remember the name. Service was helpful and quick.
This place is great, amazing croissants.
Friendly and courteous staff and everything we ate was delicious! Really sweet cafe.
This is the best apple tart that I've ever had. Courteous staff, prompt service and a chill vibe.
If you're looking for authentic French tastes, you must definitely try J'aime French Bakery.
Pastries taste amazing ! The store is very nice and Bastien, the owner, is very welcoming.
Go check it out in the nice city of Philadelphia, PA.
Great food, drinks and staff!! Always down to come
Authentic French patisserie! So far I've had the Galette des rois and the Foret Noire and they were the real deal. The menu consists mostly of individual size patisserie but you can order birthday/wedding cakes. Prices are reasonable. Please try this place, you will not be disappointed!
This bakery is sooooo good!!! you must check it out! the croissants are amazing! The owner is great and so is the staff, so friendly and helpful.
Très chic ! Excellent, flourless chocolate cake, delicious coffee, and a wide array of other, good-looking pastries, as yet untested ;-) Friendly and helpful counter staff, not exorbitant prices, great location... what's not to like?
I love this bakery. It is great for lunch, small meetings, coffee on the go, and bakery treats to bring to the office. Everything is high quality. I especially love the salmon quiche and mushroom soup.
Best French baked goods, so worth it. Olive cake one of my favorites but considering everything I've tasted is 5 stars and I can say I know good dessert.
Held an event there and loved everything.
Really nice coffer and cafe Center City area Phil. Very nice decor. Very nice, quiet atmosphere. Fine customer service. Free wifi. Excellent coffee. Great french pastries.
Beautiful space, great service, delicious bites.
What a great find ! So cute and the pastries were so delicious. We tried the olive oil cake (my favorite), the plain croissant (so flaky) and the chocolate pretzel !!! You have to try it !!!
The service here is consistently high quality. The pastries are delicious and the crepes with jam are worth every penny. Love the atmosphere, very cute.
Smells phenomenal. Sexy atmosphere. Great croissants and service. Coffee straight from a Jaguar.
Great dessert. Alot of choices. It is french themed so something different if you like to explore with your taste buds. Very clean and friendly service
I am so inclined to rename this gem on 12th street J’adore ! An emphatic J’adore !
I am partial, being French and having grown up a few yards from the neighborhood bakery where, early morning, we could buy fresh bread and crusty croissants. J’aime has become my Proust madeleine. Sipping tea (served in a teapot, the perfect invitation to savor the relaxed environment) with some of the authentic sweet offerings the French born owner Bastien bakes daily, I am at last in the place that has managed to bridge my two cultures. Thank you!
A real French Bakery with all your favorite pastries and more! A well-lit beautiful shop owned and operated by the friendly, charismatic and talented Bastien Ornano, a Pastry Chef with passion and an MBA.
Very place to just sit back and relax!
I'm English. The love hate thing is genetic, but as a nation we probably eat more croissant than anywhere outside of France, we just pretend we don't like them. The pastries in J'aime are the closest thing to a French patisserie I've had in the US
Fresh and very tasty pastries. Perfect amount of sweetness and staff is very nice too! Try the red eye!
Great pastries. Busy place, but they forgot about one of our orders. They did give us a couple of croquet to make up for it
A wonderful place to grab a wonderful bite. I recommend a quiche or an almond croissant w/ a cappuccino. Open and airy, it should lift your spirits. Will return whenever in Philly.
We went many times to J'aime french bakery and each time was perfect!
The chocolate brioche, the lemon tartelet, the Paris-Philadelphia and of course the quiches are fantastic!
I recommend it!!!
Great coffee, crepes and baked goodies
I wasn't blown away. It's pretty cute inside, but there were a lot of little things that didn't seem to work - square coffee mugs with round saucers that didn't fit with each other, general confusion on the part of the staff, etc. Besides that, the pastry we had just wasn't very good.
Coffee ☕ wow, coke 🎂 wow, Croissant wow👏. …
Amazing pastries and VERY GOOD tea! They serve La Colombe coffee, which is a perfect pair with their croissant.
So happy to have the pumpkin pies back!
Very good cappuccinos and croasaints
Loved their latte and crepes! We ate a maple syrup crape and a banana Nutella crepe. If we lived in this city we would definitely make this a go to spot.
Amazing french bakery with friendly staff and a clean, neat atmosphere. I'm picky about bakes and they have some of the best I've tried!!
Best croissants I have had, excelent coffee taste. Fast service.
I recomend this place anyone.
This place is awesome. The service is always friendly and helpful. It’s gets busy there because the food is amazing. They also have draft latte which is to die for. Always clean. Great addition to this area.
Great experience after living in France for the last 9 months. The only "but" is the music. Bachata/Regeaton music does NOT fit at all with the french eviroment. Maybe a French Essentials List, a little bit of Yann Tiersen? Then, I could spend the day.
Great coffee, french pastisserie and baguette.
Lovely bakery with a wide range of pastries and fresh bread!! So lucky to find out this authentic french taste here in Philly! Not too expensive and really good !
A French bakery fills the demand for note-perfect éclairs, brioche and crepes in Midtown Village. The sunny white space features a marble countertop and booth seating and opens to sidewalk tables in milder weather
I go To this pâtisserie shop each week . I am french and this pâtisserie remind me french pâtisseries. So good, so french. In Philadelphie, it's a only place which remind me France. I recommand it at 100%. A french taste in USA! Bravo and continue please!!!
Awesome place. Picked up a large assortment for my office and everyone loved them. The chocolate pretzel was amazing. So good!
Like being back in France. So warm and friendly. Coffee was amazing.
Very different atmosphere than any other cafe in the neighborhood. Super delicious pastries.
Delightful folks at the counter, delicious coffee/espresso, and hands down the best lemon tartlet I’ve ever had (seriously, the pâté sucrée crust is nothing short of amazing).
Wow...they have the best croissant I have ever tasted, its flaky but also melts in your mouth. I cannot wait to purchase a fresh buagette tomorrow.
Cute and very bright coffee shop. The latte and croissant was good however it gets busy during peak time and seating can be an issue.
Some of the best pastries and coffee downtown. I love this place! So happy to see it thriving
Real French café and bakery. I am a fan of this place not only due to the freshness of the baked goods and pastries but also the friendliness of the staff and the personalized attention by the owner/baker
Nice place for light breakfast. La Colombe coffee is a plus
Stopped in here the other day for an apple turnover and it was the best Apple turnover I’ve ever had. So excited to try everything else on their menu

Lovely little french bakery with outstanding pastry, friendly service and a very clean, quaint atmosphere.
A great smell of baked croassant just when entering the coffee shot..the white background gives you the feeling of being in a small corner coffee shop in Paris:)
Delicious pastries and La Colombe coffee, very authentically French and charming decor! Highly recommended
Friendly staff serving fancy French treats . No need to go to Paris to enjoy French Pastries if you happen to be in Central Philadelphia.
Beautfiul, new French bakery that opened in heart of Philadelphia, gayborhood neighborhood.
Whisked away from simple, serene ambiance as if I'm almost visiting Paris.
Nice place
Real French bakery , home made pastries , very cool space and nice atmospher . And very nice French owner ! I definitely recommend .
I hate driving in Philly, but when I found J'aime French Bakery I fell in love. I make special trips from Delaware just to come here.
They make their desserts in house and they are so good! No vegan treats though...but who knows if they will in the future.
Loooooooooovvvvveeeee this bakery. It’s beautiful and the staff is amazing! AND the bakery items are AMAZING! Super happy we have them in the neighborhood now.
The pastries were fresh and absolutely delicious. My favorite was their olive oil cake.
As a Frenchman, I certify that this bakery is officially the best spot in Philadelphia to get an authentic taste of France 🇫🇷🥐🥖😋 …
